Ruth L. Walker Cooney went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2021, in the presence of family at The Cedars in McPherson, Kansas. 

Ruthie, as family and friends called her, was born on October 22, 1929, in Ottawa, Kansas to Lloyd and Maude Walker. She had an older brother, C.W., that they called “Bud”. Ruth’s mother was ahead of her time as the owner of Walker’s Paint and Wallpaper store. The family attended and were actively involved in the Ottawa Free Methodist Church. 

Ruth was given the opportunity to attend Central Christian High School in McPherson which set the course for the rest of her life. At Central, she met Henry Cooney, the love of her life. They married in September of 1947 and settled in McPherson. 

Henry and Ruth were parents to four daughters, Linda, Debra, Kim and Jill. Ruth was a wonderful homemaker and the girls were frequently dressed alike in clothing sewn by Ruthie. 

The Free Methodist Church was an integral part of the family’s life. So were the members of the church as Ruth and family spent time camping, traveling, entertaining and just loving their church friends. Ruth sang in the choir and joined many committees. She and the family were active members of the congregation. She’s also remembered as the manager of the Tiger Den snack bar at Central College. College students over many years enjoyed her homemade donuts. Once Henry and Ruth both retired, they spent many years traveling in RVs with the Craftsmen for Christ. These years of ministry were among the most wonderful cherished years of their lives. After their traveling days were over, the couple moved to The Cedars where they enjoyed many happy years. After Henry’s passing in 2013 and living on her own, Ruth was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2019. She lived the remainder of her life at The Cedars, where she was loved by all because of the joy and fun she brought to everyone she encountered. Ruth is survived by daughters Linda Pharr (Tom), Plano, TX; Debra Wagoner (Alan), and Kim Johnson, McPherson; and Jill Kennedy (Mark), Lewisville, TX. Henry and Ruth had 10 grandchildren: Lindsay Macedo, Lance Arnott, Sarah Hendricks, Andy Wagoner, Amanda Walbaum, Cody Johnson, Jason Pecho, Jensen Yancey, Haleigh Yancey and Reid Yancey; 14 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruthie will be greatly missed by her family and many lifelong friends. They will miss her wit and humor, her kind words, her laugh and her smile. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church.

He worked as a brick layer and carpenter, working for Pyle Construction and Gilbert Construction. Jerry was born on June 10, 1960, the son of Jay Byron and Kathern Sue (Geren) Robertson. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1978 and attended Friends University in Wichita. Jerry was united in marriage to Teresa A. McDonald on August 29, 1980, in McPherson, KS. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2005. He was a member of Galva Christian Church and he, along with daughter Jennifer, was an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society. Survivors include: two daughters, Jennifer Zavadil (Jason) of Topeka, KS and Jordan Bryson (Troy) of Loveland, CO; mother Sue Robertson Harper (John Harper) of McPherson, KS; brother Jon Robertson (Jane) of Salina, KS; four grandchildren, Ethan Zavadil, Meghan Zavadil, Owen Bryson, and Carter Bryson; and many extended family and friends. Frankie’s life began on February 16, 1931, in Lexington, KY.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Robert and Dicey (Ames) Walsh.&nbsp; Frankie was united in marriage to Robert V. Turner on July 29, 1951, in Marion.&nbsp; 

She started working around the age of 16 as a ticket taker at a movie theatre, and as a soda jerk. Frankie had many jobs throughout the years including making, packaging, and selling chili for Turner’s Chili House, a family business.&nbsp; She also worked in sewing machine factories and later she worked for AMPI from where she retired.&nbsp; 

Frankie’s best job was being a mother to her three children.&nbsp; She was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club, and a wonderful painter, creating many treasured pieces of art.&nbsp; She and Robert loved to roller skate and enjoyed their 55 years of marriage.&nbsp;

 Her loving family includes her children Sandy Sloan of Wisconsin, and Bill Turner of Lincolnville, daughter-in-law Jalene Turner of Emporia; grandchildren Terry (Michelle) Turner of McPherson, Anjolene (Andrew) Boster of WI, Adam Turner of Topeka, Matt (Brooke) Day of Idaho, Suzanne Turner of Wichita, Teaira Turner of Wichita, Billy (Tiffany) Turner of Mulvane, and Diedra (Dominique) Hill of Wichita; and 16 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; 

Frankie passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, son Anthony “A.J.” and son-in-law Jim Sloan.&nbsp;

Geraldine (Gerry) H. Mills of Chapman, age 87, passed away May 8, 2021 at Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan.

 She was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Strauss) Taylor, born on December 4, 1933. She grew up on the family farm in Geary County, and graduated from Junction City High School. 

On August 9, 1959, she married Marvin Mills at United Methodist Church in Junction City. Their marriage was a true partnership. They worked together in the fields and raised cattle for over 30 years before retiring in 1996. They were always there for each other in everything they did. Gerry was a very active member of the Chapman United Methodist Church. She and Marvin enjoyed celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends in 2019. 

Marvin preceded her in death on January 24, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Lucille Heintz, Archie Taylor, Josephine Gfeller, Anna Louise Taylor and Robert Taylor. 

Gerry is survived by nieces, nephews, extended family members, as well as a host of friends. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 11 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 12, at 10:00 a.m. Both will be at Chapman United Methodist Church, 426 Sheeran, Chapman. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Enterprise, following the service.

Renita Joyce Anderes, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 9, 2021. She was born on November 16, 1952 to Robert and Betty (Lykken) Jamtgaard in Hawarden, IA. She was a 1971 graduate of North West Rankin High School in Grand Island, NE. She was united in marriage to Ronald Anderes on March 9, 1985 in Ulysses, KS. Later they moved to Elmo, KS to reside on the family farm. As a farm wife she prepared many meals for the harvest field and helped wherever she was needed. Nita worked for many years for the Farm Service Agency in Ulysses, Abilene, and eventually as chief program assistant at the Salina Office where she retired from. After retirement she worked part-time at Hairtiques in Abilene. She was an active parishioner at St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo, KS where she was active in the Ladies Altar Society as the treasurer and served on the parish council. She was also very active in her children’s activities where she coached her children in soccer and was involved in the Rural Center Ball Association and her children’s 4-H club. She rarely missed any of her children’s activities and sports. Renita also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father Robert Jamptgaard, her mother Betty Jamptgaard, and her son Michael Anderes. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ronald Anderes; five children, Brian Rice, Dawn Keesee (Robert), Trina Adee (Ryan), Daniel Anderes (Abby) and Jim Anderes (Johanna); sisters Peggy Watson (Bruce), Jenise Weisser, and Roberta Winckler (Harlan); and 14 grandchildren and four grea-grandchildren. There will be a rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. A mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, at St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo with Father Peter O’Donnell as celebrant. Her final resting place will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery south of Elmo.

She was united in marriage to Ronald Anderes on March 9, 1985 in Ulysses, KS. Later they moved to Elmo, KS to reside on the family farm. As a farm wife she prepared many meals for the harvest field and helped wherever she was needed. Nita worked for many years for the Farm Service Agency in Ulysses, Abilene, and eventually as chief program assistant at the Salina Office where she retired from. After retirement she worked part-time at Hairtiques in Abilene. She was an active parishioner at St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo, KS where she was active in the Ladies Altar Society as the treasurer and served on the parish council. She was also very active in her children’s activities where she coached her children in soccer and was involved in the Rural Center Ball Association and her children’s 4-H club. She rarely missed any of her children’s activities and sports. Renita also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father Robert Jamptgaard, her mother Betty Jamptgaard, and her son Michael Anderes. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ronald Anderes; five children, Brian Rice, Dawn Keesee (Robert), Trina Adee (Ryan), Daniel Anderes (Abby) and Jim Anderes (Johanna); sisters Peggy Watson (Bruce), Jenise Weisser, and Roberta Winckler (Harlan); and 14 grandchildren and four grea-grandchildren. There will be a rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. A mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, at St. Columba Catholic Church in Elmo with Father Peter O’Donnell as celebrant. Her final resting place will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery south of Elmo. Fisher. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; As a proud graduate of the Sacred Heart High School Class of 1945, June helped plan and organize class reunions over the years.&nbsp; She retired after working many years in the food service industry, primarily for Salina USD 305 and Asbury Hospital.&nbsp;

Among her many activities and interests June enjoyed daily walking, traveling with friends and family, and singing in the RSVP Chorus (now The Silvertones).&nbsp; She was a member of and a volunteer for St. Mary’s Catholic Church, as well as the VFW Auxiliary, of which she was a lifetime member.&nbsp; She was also a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Ladies Guild and Parents Without Partners.&nbsp; As a lifelong Salina resident, she looked forward to summer band concerts in the park, the annual Tri-Rivers fair parade, and the Smoky Hill River Festival. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; June will be remembered for always being helpful, her liveliness and sense of humor, as well as her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her four children:&nbsp; Mike (Sharon) Fisher of Leesburg, FL, Sharon (Alan) Sylvester of Tulsa, OK, Nancy (David) Thomsen of Mason, OH, and David (Kate) Fisher of St. Peters, MO.&nbsp; She is also survived by three grandsons:&nbsp; Tim (Tamra) of Lenexa, KS, Christopher (Sarah) of Mason, OH, Brian (Libby) of Milwaukee, WI, as well as 10 great grandchildren, Natalie, Callie, Avery, Miley, Henry, Oliver, Vinny, Margot, Gabriella, and Michael.

Miss Bell was born October 13, 1927, in WaKeeney, KS, to William Otis

 she served as a caregiver for her mother for 30 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson, where she was a member of the Altar Society and a eucharistic minister for many years. She was also a volunteer for the Lord's Diner, Wichita, Kansas. In 1966 Janice started working for the Post Office Department(later to become the U.S. Postal Service) in Wichita, Kansas as a secretary and served in various management positions in human resources, labor relations and delivery service in Wichita, Topeka and the Kansas City area. She served as officer in charge (acting postmaster) in Tonganoxie, Kansas, Humbolt, Kansas, Great Bend, Kansas and Marysville, Kansas. In 1985 she was appointed postmaster in Belleville, Kansas. In 1995 she was appointed postmaster of McPherson, Kansas. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 34 years of service in 1999. Janice enjoyed her Catholic faith, travel, polka music, working in her yard and spending time with her friends and family. The Rev. Dr. Max Eldon Murrison, son of William A. and Lillian B. Murrison, was born on April 3, 1930, and was called "home: on May 6, 2021. He lived in Caldwell, Kansas and graduated from Caldwell High School.

He attended Kansas University and was a member of the KU concert and marching band, and the Delta Chi Fraternity. He received a B.S. degree from Oklahoma University.

He earned a D.D.S. and master of science degree in oral and maxillofacial Surgery from Kansas City Western Dental School, now the University of Missouri Dental School.&nbsp; After graduation, he joined a large medical clinic in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He moved to Salina in 1967 and established his oral and maxillofacial surgery practice and retired in 2006.

He was a Fellow and life member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAMOS), a delegate for Kansas in the House of Delegates and served as sergeant of arms in the House of Delegates of the AAMOS. He is a life member of the American Dental Association, a past president and life member of the Midwestern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a past member of the International College of Surgeons, a life member of the Kansas Dental Association, a life member of the Northwest Golden Belt Dental Association, and secretary-treasurer of the Kansas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for 35 years, receiving an honorary certificate and plaque. He was awarded a life membership in the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Traumatic Facial Plastic Surgeons. He received the honorary as the “Outstanding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon” for leadership and community involvement in 2007.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Salina, and a member of the Isis Pipes and Drums. He was a member of the Salina Symphony for 30 years playing the oboe and the English horn.

He was ordained in the Holy Orders of the Deaconate at Christ Episcopal Cathedral and had the honor of being a member of the Western Diocese Council of the Episcopal Church for two terms, two terms of the Council of Ministry, and a member of the vestry of Christ Episcopal Cathedral for two terms.

He served as a chaplain for the Saline County community corrections, and as a visiting chaplain for Narcotic Anonymous for a short period of time and volunteered at the Salina Rescue Mission.

He is preceded in death by his mother Lillian, his father “Bill”, his stepmother Gladys, and sister Lola. He is survived by his wife Merrilyn; daughter Suzan Murrison, Manhattan, KS; sons Steven Michael Murrison, Salina, and Mark (Tracy) Murrison of Boca Raton, FL; grandsons Clayton Brentt Murrison and James Nathan Murrison of Salina, Luke Murrison and Sam Murrison, of Boca Raton, FL; granddaughters Alisha Lewis (Scott), Wylie, TX, Anna Kate Murrison and Molly Murrison, Boca Raton, FL; and eight great-grandchildren.

He lived in Caldwell, Kansas and graduated from Caldwell High School.He attended Kansas University and was a member of the KU concert and marching band, and the Delta Chi Fraternity. He received a B.S. degree from Oklahoma University.He earned a D.D.S. and master of science degree in oral and maxillofacial Surgery from Kansas City Western Dental School, now the University of Missouri Dental School.&nbsp; After graduation, he joined a large medical clinic in St. Joseph, Missouri.He moved to Salina in 1967 and established his oral and maxillofacial surgery practice and retired in 2006.He was a Fellow and life member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAMOS), a delegate for Kansas in the House of Delegates and served as sergeant of arms in the House of Delegates of the AAMOS. He is a life member of the American Dental Association, a past president and life member of the Midwestern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a past member of the International College of Surgeons, a life member of the Kansas Dental Association, a life member of the Northwest Golden Belt Dental Association, and secretary-treasurer of the Kansas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for 35 years, receiving an honorary certificate and plaque. He was awarded a life membership in the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Traumatic Facial Plastic Surgeons. He received the honorary as the “Outstanding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon” for leadership and community involvement in 2007.He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Salina, and a member of the Isis Pipes and Drums. He was a member of the Salina Symphony for 30 years playing the oboe and the English horn.He was ordained in the Holy Orders of the Deaconate at Christ Episcopal Cathedral and had the honor of being a member of the Western Diocese Council of the Episcopal Church for two terms, two terms of the Council of Ministry, and a member of the vestry of Christ Episcopal Cathedral for two terms.He served as a chaplain for the Saline County community corrections, and as a visiting chaplain for Narcotic Anonymous for a short period of time and volunteered at the Salina Rescue Mission.He is preceded in death by his mother Lillian, his father “Bill”, his stepmother Gladys, and sister Lola. Una Bee Carley-Miller, 88, of Athens, TX, passed away on December 2, 2020, at McPherson Hospital with her daughters by her side. Una Bee had been staying with her daughters, Carley and Sara, in McPherson, KS for the last three weeks. Una Bee was the youngest of seven daughters born to L.A. and Pansy Carley in McPherson, KS. Virginia Lee Carley passed at the age of seven months. Jimmie, Teddie, Marjorie, Freda, Jeanette, and Una Bee were known as “The Carley Girls.” She graduated from McPherson High School in 1950. Una Bee’s first job out of high school was at Farmers Alliance. In later years, she worked for Smokey Billue at Underground Storage in Conway, KS. Una Bee was a member of Sweet Adelines International, Daughters of American Revolution, and Lake Athens Baptist Church in Athens, TX. In 1980, she moved to Duncan, OK and married Claude “Bud” A. Miller, III. In later years, she and Bud lived in San Angelo, TX and was a partner in cemeteries in Duncan, OK, San Angelo, TX, and Del Rio, TX. After retiring, they moved to Athens, TX. She is survived by her husband, Bud Miller of Athens, TX; daughters Carley Jo Carpenter of McPherson, KS and Sara (Eric) Folck of Galva, KS; stepsons Grant (Brandy) Miller of Frisco, TX and Aaron (Nikki) Miller of Wichita, KS; her loyal dog Glory Bee; grandchildren Amber, Haylee, Christian, Carter, Audrey, and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Maddison, Scarlett, Katherine, Emmy Lou, and Ella Mae. She was born to Everett and Virginia Balthazor on&nbsp;March 21, 1938. She graduated from St. John’s High School in 1956. To this day she remained in close contact with her classmates.&nbsp;

Sonia was married to Mervin Seehafer on January 29, 1957. Together they had two children Mary and Paul. After they were married they ran the Seehafer Café in Hunter, KS. Then they moved to Beloit, KS where she worked at the Beloit Youth Center for Girls.&nbsp; While working there she earned her dietary manager certificate. After both her children were grown and married, Sonia and her husband moved to Salina, KS to be closer to her family.&nbsp;

She loved baking and making delicious goodies for her family. Her kitchen was always full of homemade cinnamon rolls, lemon bars and of course her famous bierocks. You never went hungry at grandma's house.&nbsp;

Sonia was proceeded in death by her parents and husband, brother Steve Balthazor and son Paul Seehafer- wife Tammy resides in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp;

She is survived by her sister Gayle (Randy) Halfide, brothers Roland (Susie) and Gary (Marilyn) Balthazor; daughter Mary Southworth, eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and loved all her nieces and nephews dearly.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13 at St. John's Catholic Church followed by burial in Round Springs Cemetery near Hunter. A rosary service will be at 9 a.m. at the church. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.

Paul Lawrence Irwin, son of Lewis B. and Blanche Hight Irwin, was born on December 16, 1927 in Howell County, near Dripping Springs, Missouri. He passed from this life on May 2, 2021 at home in Beloit, Kansas, age 93 years, 4 months and 16 days. His mother died of tuberculosis when he was five years old. He and his three sisters were his father’s second family, and his father was 72 years old. So, Lewis, realizing he could not adequately parent four small children, asked his first family of four married adult children to each take one child to raise for him.&nbsp; Paul was taken by his half-sister Irene and her husband Joe Wadleigh. They had four children of their own and lived in Cheraw, Colorado.&nbsp; There Paul attended grade and high school, graduating in 1946. He joined the U.S. Navy for two years, serving on the USS Fall River which was part of the occupation force in Japan after World War II.&nbsp;

Paul was active in the Cheraw Methodist Church in his youth and had given some thought while at summer camp in Palmer Lake, CO to becoming a minister. At a Youth for Christ rally while he was in the Navy, he gave his life to Christ and felt the call to ministry as a preacher of the gospel. 

After discharge he came back to Cheraw to marry his high school sweetheart Zola Kauffman on March 26, 1948. They moved to Denver and he enrolled at the University of Denver using the GI Bill. He was there only one quarter, judging the theology taught at DU to be too liberal for him. They moved to Hesston, KS where he attended Hesston College, a Mennonite school. Their first child, Lloyd, was born there.&nbsp;&nbsp;Paul transferred to Southwestern College to accommodate a student pastorate opening in Atlanta, KS. Agnes and Naomi were born while they lived in Atlanta.&nbsp; Paul graduated from Southwestern College in 1952 and moved to Isabel, KS to serve the church there.&nbsp; By this time his GI bill ran out and though he wanted to attend Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, KY, finances would not allow.&nbsp; 

He started seminary at Phillips University in Enid, OK as a weekly commuter, living and preaching in Isabel. He preferred family and ministry to school so some semesters were skipped and his seminary education was slow. Their family continued to grow with the addition of Greta and Esther, and reached five healthy, active children. Isabel church had many substitute grandparents who enjoyed babysitting the five children.&nbsp; Zola had a big job taking care of children and home, as well as keeping church work going during the weeks of seminary, acting very much like an assistant pastor.&nbsp;

The family moved to Argonia, KS in 1956, providing a shorter commute to Enid. The Methodist Church encouraged Paul to finish seminary and be ordained an elder. This was achieved in 1959 with help from family and parishioners. The members of the Argonia Methodist church, with Paul’s support, completed a new church building in 1962. Then the family moved to the double charge, Bushton and Salem churches.&nbsp; The churches both had pleasant parsonages, but they preferred to live at Salem because it was in the country. They moved after two years to Atwood, KS to an active, gracious Methodist church and community. The children attended school there for the seven-year course of their stay. The next move was to Trinity United Methodist church in Wichita for two years.&nbsp; City life did not suit Paul, so he and Zola decided to take a sabbatical year and work as migrant workers, living and traveling in a pickup camper. They picked apples and oranges, and harvested wheat and cotton. It was a year of great adventure, traveling from Kansas to Washington, Oregon, California, Texas and Florida. They returned to be appointed to Ellis United Methodist Church for three years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul decided to take early retirement from the ministry and bought a home in rural Hays, KS and a ServiceMaster franchise. Zola’s mother Agnes Kauffman lived with them during this time. He worked the franchise for 7 years with Zola, Naomi, her husband Jaime, and trained with Lloyd who had the franchise in Colby. Paul and Zola were managers of a high-rise apartment building for retirees in Hays for a year.&nbsp; Paul continued his ministry as a fill-in for other pastors as needed, returning as a full-time pastor to the Utica/Arnold charge, staying four years.&nbsp; Next Paul was&nbsp;appointed to the Dighton, KS United Methodist Church, serving&nbsp;five years. 

Retirement followed and Paul and Zola traveled with a 5th&nbsp;wheel&nbsp;trailer pulled&nbsp;by a new 1993 Dodge truck as he and Zola became “fulltimers.” They traveled from coast to coast and Canada, wintering in Florida, Arizona and California. A memorable three-week period was spent close to Washington, D.C. where they visited the Mall via the metro and took in many of the sights.&nbsp; After three years of vagabond life, Paul wanted once again to be part of a community, so they went to Argonia, KS where they were offered the use of the parsonage for his service as an occasional fill-in preacher and visiting minister for the Argonia United Methodist Church.&nbsp; They celebrated their 50th&nbsp;wedding anniversary there with their five children and their spouses, and many friends and relatives in 1998.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Zola urged a move back to Colorado, and Paul said “You have moved and helped me all these years, so it is your turn, and I will go with you wherever you want.”&nbsp; They chose Fort Morgan, Colorado where they found a friendly church which they joined. 

Paul was a very accomplished gardener, raising vegetables and flowers and sharing with friends and family. Tragedy struck on December 3, 2003 when their middle child Naomi Jane Isom was killed in a car accident.&nbsp; Her son Cas lived with them and helped them as they grew older, eventually leaving to live on his own. They were happy there, but after 13 years were invited to live with their daughter Greta in Beloit, KS where they bought their final home. They were lovingly and devotedly cared for by Greta for seven years, joined in the last couple of years by Cas who was strong, compassionate and available at all hours for help, as they entered their 90s. Family and friends frequently visited them adding to their enjoyment. 

In 2018 they held a party to celebrate their 90th&nbsp;birthdays and 70 years of marriage.&nbsp; Their last anniversary was March 26, 2021, 73 years after their wedding. Paul died in his sleep on May 2, 2021, in his home with family taking care of him to the last.&nbsp;

Paul is survived by his wife Zola of Beloit, KS; son Lloyd (Darlene) of Albuquerque, NM; daughters Agnes (Charles) of Denver CO; Greta of Beloit, KS; Esther (Terry) of Tauranga, New Zealand; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Beloit. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.

He joined the U.S. Navy for two years, serving on the USS Fall River which was part of the occupation force in Japan after World War II.&nbsp;Paul was active in the Cheraw Methodist Church in his youth and had given some thought while at summer camp in Palmer Lake, CO to becoming a minister. At a Youth for Christ rally while he was in the Navy, he gave his life to Christ and felt the call to ministry as a preacher of the gospel. After discharge he came back to Cheraw to marry his high school sweetheart Zola Kauffman on March 26, 1948. They moved to Denver and he enrolled at the University of Denver using the GI Bill. He was there only one quarter, judging the theology taught at DU to be too liberal for him. They moved to Hesston, KS where he attended Hesston College, a Mennonite school. Their first child, Lloyd, was born there.&nbsp;&nbsp;Paul transferred to Southwestern College to accommodate a student pastorate opening in Atlanta, KS. Agnes and Naomi were born while they lived in Atlanta.&nbsp; Paul graduated from Southwestern College in 1952 and moved to Isabel, KS to serve the church there.&nbsp; By this time his GI bill ran out and though he wanted to attend Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, KY, finances would not allow.&nbsp; He started seminary at Phillips University in Enid, OK as a weekly commuter, living and preaching in Isabel. He preferred family and ministry to school so some semesters were skipped and his seminary education was slow. Their family continued to grow with the addition of Greta and Esther, and reached five healthy, active children. Isabel church had many substitute grandparents who enjoyed babysitting the five children.&nbsp; Zola had a big job taking care of children and home, as well as keeping church work going during the weeks of seminary, acting very much like an assistant pastor.&nbsp;The family moved to Argonia, KS in 1956, providing a shorter commute to Enid. The Methodist Church encouraged Paul to finish seminary and be ordained an elder. This was achieved in 1959 with help from family and parishioners. The members of the Argonia Methodist church, with Paul’s support, completed a new church building in 1962. Then the family moved to the double charge, Bushton and Salem churches.&nbsp; The churches both had pleasant parsonages, but they preferred to live at Salem because it was in the country. They moved after two years to Atwood, KS to an active, gracious Methodist church and community. The children attended school there for the seven-year course of their stay. The next move was to Trinity United Methodist church in Wichita for two years.&nbsp; City life did not suit Paul, so he and Zola decided to take a sabbatical year and work as migrant workers, living and traveling in a pickup camper. They picked apples and oranges, and harvested wheat and cotton. It was a year of great adventure, traveling from Kansas to Washington, Oregon, California, Texas and Florida. They returned to be appointed to Ellis United Methodist Church for three years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Paul decided to take early retirement from the ministry and bought a home in rural Hays, KS and a ServiceMaster franchise. Zola’s mother Agnes Kauffman lived with them during this time. He worked the franchise for 7 years with Zola, Naomi, her husband Jaime, and trained with Lloyd who had the franchise in Colby. Paul and Zola were managers of a high-rise apartment building for retirees in Hays for a year.&nbsp; Paul continued his ministry as a fill-in for other pastors as needed, returning as a full-time pastor to the Utica/Arnold charge, staying four years.&nbsp; Next Paul was&nbsp;appointed to the Dighton, KS United Methodist Church, serving&nbsp;five years. Retirement followed and Paul and Zola traveled with a 5th&nbsp;wheel&nbsp;trailer pulled&nbsp;by a new 1993 Dodge truck as he and Zola became “fulltimers.” They traveled from coast to coast and Canada, wintering in Florida, Arizona and California. A memorable three-week period was spent close to Washington, D.C. where they visited the Mall via the metro and took in many of the sights.&nbsp; After three years of vagabond life, Paul wanted once again to be part of a community, so they went to Argonia, KS where they were offered the use of the parsonage for his service as an occasional fill-in preacher and visiting minister for the Argonia United Methodist Church.&nbsp; They celebrated their 50th&nbsp;wedding anniversary there with their five children and their spouses, and many friends and relatives in 1998.&nbsp;&nbsp;Zola urged a move back to Colorado, and Paul said “You have moved and helped me all these years, so it is your turn, and I will go with you wherever you want.”&nbsp; They chose Fort Morgan, Colorado where they found a friendly church which they joined. Paul was a very accomplished gardener, raising vegetables and flowers and sharing with friends and family. Tragedy struck on December 3, 2003 when their middle child Naomi Jane Isom was killed in a car accident.&nbsp; Her son Cas lived with them and helped them as they grew older, eventually leaving to live on his own. They were happy there, but after 13 years were invited to live with their daughter Greta in Beloit, KS where they bought their final home. They were lovingly and devotedly cared for by Greta for seven years, joined in the last couple of years by Cas who was strong, compassionate and available at all hours for help, as they entered their 90s. Family and friends frequently visited them adding to their enjoyment. In 2018 they held a party to celebrate their 90th&nbsp;birthdays and 70 years of marriage.&nbsp; Their last anniversary was March 26, 2021, 73 years after their wedding. Paul died in his sleep on May 2, 2021, in his home with family taking care of him to the last.&nbsp;Paul is survived by his wife Zola of Beloit, KS; son Lloyd (Darlene) of Albuquerque, NM; daughters Agnes (Charles) of Denver CO; Greta of Beloit, KS; Esther (Terry) of Tauranga, New Zealand; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.&nbsp;Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Beloit. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Virgil Dean Bartell&nbsp;passed away on February 11, 2021. Virgil was born February 17, 1936 to Roy and Lennie Bartell in Scott City, KS.

Virgil worked in the family business until he was called to duty by the U.S. Army where he proudly served from 1954-1956.

Virgil married Myrna Kleinsorge on June 27, 1959 and began their life in Selden, KS where he owned a filling station. They moved to Salina, KS where they raised their four children Don, Randy, Debbie and Mike.

Virgil&nbsp; worked&nbsp; for&nbsp; Pepsi&nbsp; as&nbsp; a&nbsp; route&nbsp; driver&nbsp; for&nbsp; several&nbsp; years&nbsp; before beginning his career with Dillons. He retired from Dillons in 1998 after 22 years.&nbsp; He&nbsp; loved&nbsp; camping,&nbsp; fishing,&nbsp; playing cards and spent many weekends at area lakes. He later enjoyed many trips with the Good Sam's Club. Virgil was a member of&nbsp; Secret Heart Cathedral, Knights of&nbsp; Columbus, and the Good Sam's Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife of&nbsp; 61 years, Myrna, daughter Debbie, three brothers Delbert, Bob and Ray, and sister Isabel. He is survived by sons Don Bartell (Nancy) Wamego, Randy Bartell Salina, and Mike Bartell, Hays; grandchildren Lisa Njoroge (Jason), Lawrence, Stetson Smith&nbsp; (Jordan),&nbsp; Salina,&nbsp; Erin&nbsp; Rectenwald&nbsp; (Chris)&nbsp; Lawrence, Kailey Smith, Salina and Dakota Bartell (Kaylin) of&nbsp; Manhattan, four great-granddaughters, and sister Delmonta Tholen.

A joint funeral service for Virgil and his wife Myrna will be held May 15, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral with the rosary at 10 a.m. and the mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Myrna was born June 24, 1939 to Leo and Valaria (Mumm) Kleinsorge in Leoville, KS. The oldest of nine siblings, she grew up on a farm northwest of&nbsp; Selden, KS. Myrna graduated from Selden High School in 1957 and began working at the hospital in Colby where she met Virgil Bartell. They were married June 27, 1959 and resided in Selden until moving to Salina in 1963. To this union were added four children Don, Randy, Debbie and Mike.

Myrna worked in the food service industry, first at school systems and then working 25 years for St. John's Hospital. She loved camping and playing cards.&nbsp; Her&nbsp; biggest joys&nbsp; were&nbsp; her&nbsp; kids, grandkids&nbsp; and&nbsp; great-granddaughters. Myrna was a member of&nbsp; Sacred Heart Cathedral, the Ladies Guild and Good Sam's Camping Club.

Myrna is preceded in death by her parents and daughter Debbie. Eugene A. "Gene" Burns, 81, of Salina, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021. He was born July 30, 1939, in Chicago, IL, to J. Robert "Bob" and Evelyn (Buckley) Burns. As an infant, the family moved to Morris County, KS.&nbsp; He graduated in the last class of Diamond Valley High School, Burdick, KS. &nbsp;

Gene served two years in the U.S. Army and four years in the Reserves.&nbsp; He married Janice Hartman on October 9, 1966. His career spanned 35 years for the USDA Soil Conservation Service.

Gene coached youth sports in Salina during the 1970s and '80s, including serving Babe Ruth Baseball.&nbsp; Additionally, he served as president of the Kansas Parents Association of Hearing-Impaired Children.

He is survived by his wife Janice (Jan), of the home; sons John (Linda Oldham) Burns, of Topeka and Curtis Burns, of Salina; grandsons Hunter Burns and Tyler J. Burns; and sisters Mary Lou Thompson (Jon), Azle, TX, Coleen Anderes (Lyle), of Salina, Linda Cox, of Hesston, Dorothy Goodwin (Steve), of Salina.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Georgia Connor.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Ryan Mortuary, with family present from 5-7 p.m. Graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at New Basel Cemetery, rural Abilene, KS.

Paul Albert Richard was born in Concordia, KS on April 23, 1943 to Matthew and Angeline (Racette) Richard and passed away January 19, 2021 in Edinburg, TX. He married Gladys (Gee Basgall) Leiker on June 13, 2020 in Salina, KS.

Mr. Richard proudly served his country in the Army and Air Force National Guard serving seven years as a combat engineer. He was owner-manager of PG&amp;R Decorating and Auto Glass in Salina, later becoming a top salesman for PPG (Pittsburg Paint and Glass) while winning multiple awards and certifications.

He was a member the American Legion, Manhattan, KS and VFW, St. Mary’s Salina, and Jolly Mixers Dance Club of Salina serving as president and vice-president several years.

He is survived by his wife Gee of the home; one son, Tony Richard (Sophia Dewey), Mentor, KS; three daughters; Tammy (Doug) Watkins, Salina, KS.; Jennifer (Kris) Antonetti, Lawrence, KS.; and Krystal (Bryan) Hay, Nashville, TN., brother, John (Sandy) Richard, St. George, KS.; two sisters, Maurene (Dan) Miller, Fresno, CA., and Paula Miller, Visalia, CA., six grandchildren; two step-children; DeAnn (Jason) Laymance, Lawton, OK., and Daniel Leiker, Russell, KS., three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Richard. It was Paul’s wishes to be cremated.

A private celebration of life graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., May 27, 2021 at the St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia with Fr. David Metz officiating.&nbsp; Military honors will be conducted by the Ft. Riley Big Red One, Ft. Riley, Kansas and American Legion Post #76 and VFW Post #588, Concordia, Kansas.

He married Gladys (Gee Basgall) Leiker on June 13, 2020 in Salina, KS.Mr. Richard proudly served his country in the Army and Air Force National Guard serving seven years as a combat engineer. David Aaron Meysenburg passed away May 5, 2021 in Salina Regional Health Center. 

He is survived by his wife Amy and their sons Cody, Cooper and Cayden. He is also survived by his brother Dan and his nephew Max, his sister Kay and her husband Mike, his sister Patty and her husband Scott, his niece Jane, his sister-in-law Jenny and her sons Bobby and Nick.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his brother Michael, his father Bob and his mother Shirley.

David graduated from Abilene High School in 1992. He went on to attend and graduate from Washburn University with bachelor degrees in history and in education. He completed his master's degree in school counseling and was close to completing his master's degree in school administration. Before retiring he was a teacher at St. Francis in Salina and he truly loved teaching there.

In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to St. Francis PRTF students. Memorials may be dropped off at the church the day of the service or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Funeral services will be at United Grace Church at 3 p.m. Saturday followed by a graveside service at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
