Margaret Ann Clark&nbsp;was called to heaven to be with the Lord on Friday August 6, 2021. Margaret was the daughter of Doug and Mary Gomel and Roye Bird. She was born in Quinter, Kansas, on February 18, 1967.

Margaret attended Salina South High graduating in ’85 and attended cosmetology school with her mother. 

In 1994, she wedded her husband, Robert "Greg" Clark, and had two kids; Kaitlyn in ‘95 and Kameron in ‘98. Margaret later in life found her soulmate, James "Bo" Armstrong, and they were together for 17 years. 

Margaret resided in Herington with Bo and worked several odd jobs including running a paper route delivering the Salina Journal, mowing lawns, cleaning foreclosed homes for the bank, and home improvement projects. 

She was a hard-working woman who put her heart and soul into everything she did. Margaret lived a full and exciting life riding motorcycles, traveling, bowling, painting, and arm wrestling at county, state and national levels. Margaret was a sucker for a peanut butter and chocolate shake. She was best known for her contagious laugh and her giving heart, and admired for her strength and perseverance.

She is preceded in death by her father figure, Douglas Gomel, and her grandparents.

She is survived by her soulmate James "Bo" Armstrong; her mother Mary Gomel; father Roye Bird; four loving sisters, Margie McGreevy (Jason), Marie Gomel, Nancy Francis (Brian), and Paula Hiatt (Matt); and two children, Kaitlyn Elliott (Clint) and Kameron Clark.

Celebration of life will be held Wednesday, August 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Salina, 1325 E Cloud in Salina.

Robert A. Marihugh, age 89, entered into rest on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the Jewel County Hospital.&nbsp; 

Robert Allan Marihugh was born on February 13, 1932, at Beloit, Kansas, and was the only living child of Lloyd William and Margie Enola (Ormsbee) Marihugh.

Robert attended grade school at Esbon, Odessa, and Dentonia grade schools, and attended high school at Esbon and Smith Center, where he graduated in May of 1950.

On January 6, 1951, Robert joined the United States Air Force and served as a clerk typist until he was honorably discharged on December 21, 1953.

Robert was joined in marriage to Esther Joy Warner on December 21, 1952, and this union was blessed with two boys – Lloyd Irl born December 2, 1953, and Bruce Elliott, born December 2, 1957. Lloyd Irl and wife Deborah Dickson had three children – Joshua Michael, Matthew Christian and Kristen Elizabeth.

Robert graduated from the University of Kansas on August 10, 1962, with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and secondary major in chemistry. Robert then graduated from Fort Hays State College in the spring of 1970 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. He went on to obtain his FAA airframe and powerplant license from the Kansas Technical Institute in Salina on May 21, 1982, so he could repair his plane that he enjoyed flying. Robert graduated from the Reynaldo G. Garza School of Law in 1991, where he received his L.L.B. (Bachelors of Law) degree. All told, Robert earned 357 college credit hours!

Robert developed his farm near Downs for irrigation, and farmed his Odessa farm, and his farms near Esbon and in Cora Township, along with teaching from 1958 to 1986 in Oak Creek, Solomon Rapids, Downs, Topeka, Esbon, Lebanon, Donna TX, La Villa and Valley View TX, along with a stint at South Texas Community College.

On March 3, 1983, Robert and Paula Pat (Manley) of Lebanon, Kansas, were united in marriage. The new couple spent many winters at their home in Alamo, Texas, which Robert had built. Paula became ill in May 2001, and was admitted to the McAllen Regional Hospital on June 30, 2001, and was later transferred to the Salina Hospital, where she died of cancer on July 16, 2001.

Following Paula’s death, Robert would spend his winters in Texas, and his summers in Kansas. Robert returned to Mankato in April of 2017, and spent the remainder of his life at the Jewell Co. Hospital Long Term Care. Robert developed Parkinson’s Disease, and he passed away on July 31, 2021, at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 18 days.

He is preceded in death by his mother Margie in 1996, father Lloyd in 2004, first wife Esther in 1971, second wife Paula in 2001, and daughter-in-law Carol Ann Marihugh.

Robert is survived by his sons Lloyd “Earl” Marihugh and his wife Debbie and Bruce Marihugh, grandchildren Tierra, Sherna, Haley, Cienthia, Rylee and Grace. He is also survived by his extended family, neighbors, and many friends.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the Odessa Cemetery, rural Esbon. U.S. military honors will be presented by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, McConnell Air Force Base.

Memorials are requested to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Jewell Co. Hospital, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Henry William Thomas, retired farmer, popcorn enthusiast and polka music fanatic, died Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, Kansas. He was 88.

Born May 25, 1933, on a farm eight miles northeast of Clay Center homesteaded by his grandparents, Henry was the son of William Kokanour and Edith Blanc Thomas. He attended a one-room school for seven years and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1951. Henry then farmed with his father and married Eleanor Anne Herr on July 22, 1956. They later divorced.

A founding member and fire chief of the Clay Center-Hayes Rural Fire District #1, Henry took great pride in that volunteer work. He also was instrumental in forming the Land of Ahs company, selling popcorn and bird seed. He loved growing sweet corn, researching his family roots and religiously scouring the Dispatch and Salina Journal from cover to cover every day. A stickler for honesty, Henry often quoted his father, who said that “as long as you tell the truth, you don’t have to have a good memory.”&nbsp;

Henry married Mariruth Harrison Nye on January 1, 1996, and the couple lived at the farm until moving to Clay Center in 2013. She died on September 28, 2016. He enjoyed traveling and in later years delivered shuttle buses to airports and hotels across the country. Henry never met a stranger -- “You run into the most interesting people out on the road,” he used to say.

Despite serious health issues that included two brain surgeries and cancer, Henry never gave up, his positive attitude evident to the very end. During his final days in the hospital, when a nurse asked him how he was feeling, he told her, “Never been better.”

Henry was in the Army Reserves from 1955-1963 and was a member of BPOE #2253, the Hayes United Methodist Church and Clay Center United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Survivors include: son Tracy (Judy) Thomas, Lenexa, KS; daughters Teresa (Greg) Quandt, Peachtree City, GA; and Terri Thomas, Olathe, KS; sister, Rose Anne Reed, Clay Center; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and longtime caregiver and family friend, Jerry Brock.

Visitation is 9:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, at Clay Center United Methodist Church, with a celebration of life to follow at 11 a.m. Face masks are recommended.

They absolutely adored her from day one and loved to help with her in any way they could, from giving her a bottle as a baby to teaching her how to “shake her booty” most recently. Clara would have been a fabulous big sister to a new sibling arriving in October of this year.

Clara enjoyed living room dance parties, eating mulberries right off the tree, and checking fields with Daddy. She was also an animal lover and raced Momma out the door to feed the cats and chickens.

Although her time with us was short, Clara’s big eyes and infectious personality had a lasting impact on everyone she met. Her final gift to this world was the donation of her organs. &nbsp;

Survivors include her parents Matt and Tynan, big brothers Clayton and Mason, paternal grandparents Gordon and Annie Dowell and Jayne and Kevin Gunn, maternal grandparents Terry and Allie Honn and Dorinda Honn; aunts and uncles Meghan and Daniel Hashman, Caleb and Morgan Enoch and their daughters Olivia and Hazel, Joe and Caitlin Bradley and their sons Thaydeon and Ryker; great-grandfather Norman Dick, and great-grandmother Ledona “Granny” Dowell.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 10, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville.

Rosary and vigil services will be Tuesday, August 10, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Belleville. Following the vigil services, the family will greet friends at the Sacred Heart Center (parish hall).

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Bishop Gerald Vincke officiating. Graveside service to follow at St. Katherine Cemetery, rural Cuba.

Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to the Cuba Community Center for a luncheon and fellowship with the family.

Janet Lou Johnson, 69, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:53 a.m., Saturday, April 4, while in the company of family members, at her home. Janet was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on March 22, 1951, a daughter of Esther Adelia (Erickson) Ebling and Jack Walton Ebling. Janet attended Elvings Country School, near Lindsborg, Kansas and graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School, Lindsborg, Kansas in 1969. She then attended Brown Mackie Business School, Salina, Kansas where she received her business degree. She was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church of rural McPherson where she was a member of WELCA and served her church in many other capacities. Janet worked for Colonial Savings in Salina, Kansas before her marriage. After her marriage, she worked for Pioneer Savings and Loan Company, worked for USD 418 as an aide and worked for Central Plastics in the shipping department. She was the New Gottland Lutheran Church secretary for about 20 years. Janet was also a homemaker and farmwife and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Janet enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Janet Lou Ebling was united in marriage to Marvin W. Johnson on July 28, 1979 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together on the Johnson family farm rural McPherson. They were blessed with the birth of daughter Jamie. . She is survived by her devoted husband of over 40 years, Marvin Johnson of McPherson, Kansas; her daughter Jamie Tautwein and husband Taner of Lindsborg, Kansas; her sister Mary Jean Peterson and husband Eugene, of Lindsborg, Kansas; her sister-in-law Caren Ebling of Lindsborg, Kansas; her four favorite grandchildren, Adison Trautwein, Audrey Trautwein, Aspen Trautwein, and Ayvie Trautwein. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kent Ebling and her stepfather Raymond "Pete" Elmquist. Scott graduated from Bladen Nebraska High School. He married Sonja Kohl on June 27, 1975. They made their home in Scotia, Nebraska until moving to Miltonvale, Kansas in 1999. 

Scott helped local farmers for several years and worked for Hutchinson Maywrath. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. 

Scott loved spending time with his family. Scott is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Tracy Borwege; brothers-in-law Leonard Kucera, Larry Sanford, and Darold Burgess.

She died August 2, 2021 at KU Medical Center following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She married Harold Terpening on November 26, 1971 in Woodston, Kansas. She attended the Pleasant Valley School, District 11, in rural Osborne County through 4th grade. She continued school in Woodston from 5th Grade through high school and graduated in 1967. Following graduation, she attended and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College, now Emporia State University, and graduated in three and a half years with a degree in elementary education.

She served many years as a classroom teacher, a reading specialist for elementary students, and the sponsor of student activities. She taught in the public schools as a first grade and special reading/math teacher in Axtell, Palco, Morland, Lenora, Abilene, Mankato, and Solomon, Kansas and was very active in the activities in those schools. One of her favorite things in all of the schools was her time spent as a cheerleading sponsor. Through her professional and personal life Teresa was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi for 20 years, PEO Chapter JQ since 1991, KS State Reading Council, State Reading Analyst, and served in a variety of positions at their churches throughout the years including in the youth department, a member of and director of the choir, church secretary/treasurer, and currently on the board of the Missions Ministry. Teresa’s favorite charities and causes include her church, leukemia and lymphoma research, the Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She felt that the most important things in her life were her family and her teaching career. To her family she leaves this advice “Smile, be kind, and love each other. When all is said and done, you have each other.” If asked, she would share that her most significant desire is that her granddaughters are productive, loving, God-fearing young ladies, and her students being successful in their endeavors. She will be remembered by all as kind and giving of herself. Teresa was preceded in death by her infant daughter Carol Ann; her parents; her in-laws Dean and Eileen Cox; her grandparents; her only aunt and uncle, Everett and Eda Jean Hildreth and their daughter Raenetta Billings. Robert Gordan Linder was born on January 20, 1927, to Emil and Martha (Schoemaker) Linder at the farm home in Banner Township, Dickinson County, KS. He passed August 2, 2021. Family will gather with friends on Monday, August 9 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Durham, Kansas. He will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Cemetery District #4. The family is thankful they were able to bring Robert home to the farm for his final days. He died on his farm where he was born 94 years ago. Robert lived a life focused on family, faith and farm. He attended a one-room school near home, two years at the Elmo school and graduated from Hope High School in 1945.

Robert was a proud veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp October 1944 and after graduation entered active service in July 1945. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II working with experimental helicopters. He received the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory medal. He returned to take over the family farm when his military service ended in 1946. Robert married in 1949 and had four children, Dawn, Dwight, Denise and Darla Linder. On October 2, 1965, Robert married Leola (Druse) Schmidt who brought two children, Marty and Nancy Schmidt, to the family. Tom and Roberta “Bo” Linder were born to this union to complete the family. Robert was a farmer and rancher all his life. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Dickinson County. For many years he served as treasurer and trustee. When the church closed, he attended the First Baptist Church of Durham, KS. For 26 years he served as a trustee for Banner Township. As a boy, he was present when Highway 15 was relocated from the mile east of the farm to the mile west of the farm using horses and mules. In later years, when county roads were given formal names, Robert served on the naming committee for Dickinson County. Bob and Leola celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2020 with a small gathering of family. They experienced their one and only Zoom call with family members who were unable to attend due to COVID restrictions. Robert was known for his quick wit and a sly wink of the eye. Bob never met a stranger. He enjoyed people. He was inquisitive and liked to learn. He enjoyed attending the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo each year and watching any pro rodeo competition on television. Despite the rigorous schedule of the farm, Robert always made time to attend the events of children, grandchildren, church and community. He passed August 2, 2021. Family will gather with friends on Monday, August 9 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Durham, Kansas. He will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Cemetery District #4. The family is thankful they were able to bring Robert home to the farm for his final days. He died on his farm where he was born 94 years ago. Robert lived a life focused on family, faith and farm. He attended a one-room school near home, two years at the Elmo school and graduated from Hope High School in 1945. Robert was a proud veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp October 1944 and after graduation entered active service in July 1945. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II working with experimental helicopters. He received the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory medal. He returned to take over the family farm when his military service ended in 1946. Robert married in 1949 and had four children, Dawn, Dwight, Denise and Darla Linder. On October 2, 1965, Robert married Leola (Druse) Schmidt who brought two children, Marty and Nancy Schmidt, to the family. Tom and Roberta “Bo” Linder were born to this union to complete the family. Robert was a farmer and rancher all his life. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Dickinson County. For many years he served as treasurer and trustee. When the church closed, he attended the First Baptist Church of Durham, KS. For 26 years he served as a trustee for Banner Township. As a boy, he was present when Highway 15 was relocated from the mile east of the farm to the mile west of the farm using horses and mules. In later years, when county roads were given formal names, Robert served on the naming committee for Dickinson County. Bob and Leola celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2020 with a small gathering of family. They experienced their one and only Zoom call with family members who were unable to attend due to COVID restrictions. Robert was known for his quick wit and a sly wink of the eye. Bob never met a stranger. He enjoyed people. He was inquisitive and liked to learn. He enjoyed attending the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo each year and watching any pro rodeo competition on television. Despite the rigorous schedule of the farm, Robert always made time to attend the events of children, grandchildren, church and community. Barbara Carlene Noller, passed away in her sleep, Sunday, August 2, 2021, at her home in Mentor, KS. She was 85 years old. She was born in Randall, KS, March 8, 1936, to Vernon and Eva (Gallivan) Noller. The family moved to Esbon, KS where Barbara went to school and graduated.

Barbara worked as a caregiver and then as a housekeeper until her retirement. She loved life and always enjoyed herself in whatever she was doing. She loved music and dancing, going to and watching sports and bowling. She loved the family cats immensely. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Eva; sisters Janice Allen and Verna Mae Christianson; brothers Larry Noller and Stanley Noller; brothers-in-law Lester Harmon, Sherman Worman, Don Allen and Jack Guyett; and sister-in-law Twila Harmon.

She is survived by daughters Sharon (Joe) Drewett, Azle, TX, Connie (Don) Jones, Beloit and Carol (Larry) Dighera, Mentor. SALINA -&nbsp;Olivia L. Vega, 84, was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.&nbsp; Mrs. Vega was born January 13, 1937 in Las Varas, Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Dolores Montanez de Lujan and Eusebio Lujan.

She was a lifelong follower of Christ, dedicated spouse, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.&nbsp; 

Mrs. Vega had worked as a schoolteacher in Mexico prior to meeting her spouse.&nbsp; She raised her family throughout the States and Panama as an Airforce wife before permanently settling in Salina.&nbsp; 

She enjoyed volunteering her time at Sacred Heart Cathedral, singing&nbsp; in the Bishop’s Choir, interpreting for family and friends, bowling, cooking, visiting with new and old friends, and continuing to teach, guide and care for each new generation in her family with her love and wisdom. &nbsp;

Mrs. Vega was preceded in everlasting life by her parents; loving husband Ladislao; two siblings, Victoria and Rutilio; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild were called to heaven before their earthly debut.&nbsp;

Arlene Bassett went the be with the Lord on August 2, at the age of 96. With the Lord in heaven, her body and mind have been restored. She died of complications of age.

Arlene was born in Portis, Kansas on May 1, 1925. She was the daughter of Paul and Wilma (Brumbaugh) Rollins. Her mother was from Portis, Kansas and her father was from Cawker City, Kansas. She graduated from Portis High School. 

She was united in marriage to Donald Bassett on August 22, 1948 in Lebanon, Kansas. They were married for 55 years. They moved to Salina in 1950 and lived there the rest of their lives.

Survivors include her adoring sons Paul Bassett (Cindi) and Bradley Bassett (Nancy); sister Sharon Rorabaugh; brothe, Max Rollins (Shirley); brother-in-law John Patterson; five beautiful grand-children, Gabriel Bassett, Simeon Bassett, Matthew Bassett, Hannah Bassett, and Dylan Bassett. She has three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Coralee and Adabelle Bassett. She took them all separately to Washington, DC. to see the capitol when they were 12. She and Don, their grandfather, funded their college educations. She loved each one of us.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wayne Bassett and sister, Peggy Patterson.

Arlene was an exemplary Christian, sister, wife, mother, teacher, friend, grandmother, and quilter. 

She attained her teaching degree from Marymount College and began teaching fourth grade, which she did for over 20 years. She was named a Master Teacher in Salina. She received her masters degree in education from Kansas State University. 

After she retired, she was a substitute teacher, became an award-winning quilter, and a pretty good bridge player. She was also an avid reader. She was part of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Salina for several years. 

Most of all, she enjoyed her family and grandchildren. She loved having extended family dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She attended the Salina Bible Church throughout her adult life. She lived her faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ as her savior. She loved to study the bible and follow the teaching of Jesus. She spent her final years in Eagle Crest Retirement 

Center. Her family is thankful for the loving care she received there. She was the best mother anyone could hope to have.

Visitation is at 12 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2021 at Faith Bible Church, 2100 Quincy, Salina. Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina.

Eloene Lois “Ellen” Cunningham passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021,
 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 92. She 
was born on June 14, 1929, at the family farm in Rooks County to James 
and Caroline (Smith) Albright.
 Ellen was a lifelong resident to Rooks County and attended Stockton 
High School. After school she married Linus Rogers. The couple was 
blessed with four children: David, Patti, Loie, and Jim. She spent her 
early years raising the children and taking care of the home until they 
became old enough to go to school. She then started work at the 
courthouse in the Treasurer’s Office and later became a Probate Judge 
Assistant, and then a Probate Judge. After the years working for the 
county, she became a bookkeeper for a local Ford dealership until she 
and Linus became owners of K &amp; R Tanking Service. Before Linus’s 
passing in 1992, they sold the dealership and retired. Ellen and Linus 
loved to square dance weekly, even several times a week with the 
“Swingin’ Wheels” square dancers. She league-bowled for 40 years and was
 also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
 In 2002 Ellen married DeVane Cunningham and the couple enjoyed 
almost 20 years together. They enjoyed traveling and just enjoying their
 retirement together. Ellen stayed busy with her friends and family. She

son-in-law, Jerry Sterling; and one great-grandson, Christian Sterling.
 Ellen is survived by her children, David (Merena) Rogers of Nixa, 
MO, Patti (Jerry) Sterling of Stockton, KS, Loie (Jim) Lewin of Salina, 
KS, and Jim Rogers (Lorna) of Stockton, KS; sister, Ruth; ten 
grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
 A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021, at 2 PM at
 the funeral home in Stockton. Visitation will also be held Monday at 
the funeral home from 10 AM until service time.

 </figure>Eloene Lois “Ellen” Cunningham passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021,
 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 92. She 
was born on June 14, 1929, at the family farm in Rooks County to James 
and Caroline (Smith) Albright.
 Ellen was a lifelong resident to Rooks County and attended Stockton 
High School. After school she married Linus Rogers. The couple was 
blessed with four children: David, Patti, Loie, and Jim. She spent her 
early years raising the children and taking care of the home until they 
became old enough to go to school. She then started work at the 
courthouse in the Treasurer’s Office and later became a Probate Judge 
Assistant, and then a Probate Judge. After the years working for the 
county, she became a bookkeeper for a local Ford dealership until she 
and Linus became owners of K &amp; R Tanking Service. Before Linus’s 
passing in 1992, they sold the dealership and retired. Ellen and Linus 
loved to square dance weekly, even several times a week with the 
“Swingin’ Wheels” square dancers. She league-bowled for 40 years and was
 also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
 In 2002 Ellen married DeVane Cunningham and the couple enjoyed 
almost 20 years together. They enjoyed traveling and just enjoying their
 retirement together. Ellen stayed busy with her friends and family. She

Bernice Eleanor Peel, 99, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. She was the youngest of two children, born April 18, 1922, to the late Albert and Gunda (Anderson) Peel of rural Lindsborg, KS. Also preceding her in death were her sister Madeline Keenan of Lindsborg, KS, grandparents Christian and Lena (Peterson) Peel of New Gottland, KS who were immigrants from Denmark, and grandparents John and Sofia (Karlson) Anderson of rural Lindsborg, KS who were immigrants from Sweden. Bernice was baptized March 9, 1929, and confirmed in 1937 by Dr. Alfred Bergin, Pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. She has remained a member since that time. Bernice grew up on the family farm southeast of Lindsborg, KS. She attended the country school, Smoky Hill, Dist. #105, McPherson County, KS, 2 ½ miles southeast of Lindsborg. While in her youth, she was elected secretary/treasurer of Friendly Valley 4-H Club. As a member, Bernice made a vanity with drawers and doors from free orange crates. This was during the Great Depression in 1936. Upon graduating from Lindsborg High School in 1940, Bernice attended Brown Mackie School of Business. Soon she became secretary, cashier, and bookkeeper of the large Brown McDonald store in McPherson, KS. She worked there six days (48 hours) a week and loved it. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in McPherson. She also worked at Bay Petroleum Refinery in McPherson and Denver, CO where she was secretary to the superintendent. Bernice moved to San Francisco, CA, because her sister was there. She became secretary to the assistant manager at the home office of Aetna Insurance Co. for five years. While riding the bus back and forth to work, she crocheted squares for an afghan. When leaving San Francisco, she stopped to see a friend in Sacramento. She stayed and worked as secretary in the McClatchy Newspaper business for a short time. Bernice went home to Kansas and vacationed with her parents. Afterwards, she visited a friend in Kansas City, MO and found a job there with Warner Bros. Distributing Company for several years. This company distributed films to theatres in Kansas and Missouri. Bernice enjoyed very much being secretary/treasurer. She learned new business, made new friends, and had a wonderful life. She returned to McPherson to retire. Bernice was a member of the McPherson Historical Society, McPherson Senior Center, and Mid Kansas Co-op of Lindsborg. Bernice suffered from severe sciatic nerve pain during several years of her retirement, but maintained care of herself in her home with the help of friends. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching the birds fly and squirrels gather their food. Her cat “Blackie” was always by her side. Survivors include:&nbsp; nephew Robert Ray Keenan (Virginia) of Turney, MO; two great-nephews, Terry Keenan of Richmond, MO and Sean Keenan of San Francisco, CA; three great-nieces, Tammi Keenan of Kansas City, MO, Sheila Dickey (Russ) of Kearney, MO, and Rosanna Coons (Jack) of Olathe, KS; great-great-nephews Michael Keenan of Clarksville, TN, Calvin Keenan of N.K.C., MO, Jonathan and Brayden Dickey of Kearney, MO; and great-great-niece Ciara Keenan of Kansas City, MO; and three great-great-great-nephews, Parker, Hudson, and Brooks Keenan of Tennessee. David was born September 25, 1952 to Paul and Ruth (Davis) Wessling.&nbsp; He had four siblings, Roger, Rosemary, Daniel and Joan. He attended school at St. John's Elementary and St. John's High School until transferring to Beloit High School.&nbsp; 

He married Cindy Gawith to whom two daughters were born, Nichole Marie and Jill Lee.&nbsp; After the dissolution of this marriage, he met and married Pam Porter on May 15, 1983.&nbsp; To this marriage were born Heather Lee Nicole and Morgan Rae.&nbsp; He loved his daughters and supported their sports and musical talents as much as possible.&nbsp; He loved listening to his daughters practice piano, violin, cello and vocals.&nbsp; He was an active father and loving husband.

He was a farmer, born and raised, beginning at an early age working the family farms with his father and brothers.&nbsp; He went to work in the 70s at Scoggan Farms until his retirement in 2014 when he was diagnosed with early Alzheimer's/dementia.&nbsp; He loved his time there and worked long hours to make sure everything was done correctly and thoroughly.&nbsp; He was part of the Scoggan family, a hard worker and a loyal employee.&nbsp;

He was not an adventurer but loved the outdoors.&nbsp; He loved spending time fly-fishing with his friends at the lakes/ponds and rivers in Kansas, Nebraska, Texas and Colorado.&nbsp; He loved pheasant and quail hunting with his friends, even trapping and coon hunting.&nbsp;

David was talented in so many areas, woodworking, carpentry, electrical, automotive, repairing almost everything in the home.&nbsp; David learned so many skills from his father and uncles working beside them as they built homes throughout Beloit.&nbsp; He would help his brothers on projects whenever he could on whatever they needed.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents and his very special sister Joan, brother Roger and father-in-law Donald Porter.

Avelina Javier (Nanay) Cunningham, 83, of Grafton, Illinois passed away Thursday, July 29, at Evelyn's House, Creve Coeur, Missouri. Avelina was born in Manila, Philippines on September 2, 1937, a daughter of Adriana (Javier) and Benito Hernandez. Avelina attended the Manila grade schools, Manila, Philippines. She was a member of New Legacy Church McPherson, Kansas. Avelina was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked on the production line for Central Plastics. Avelina enjoyed cooking, working in her yard and gardening both vegetable and flower, and spending time with her family. Avelina Javier Hernandez was united in marriage to Eugenio B. Villanueva. This union was blessed with the birth of six children, three sons, and three daughters, Roberto, Marilyn, Rolando, Marissa, Zenaida, and Rodelio. Eugenio died in February 2001. Avelina Villanueva was united in marriage to John Duane Cunningham on July 6, 1996. John died on December 28, 2009. She is survived by her children, Roberto Villanueva, of McPherson, Kansas, Rolando Villanueva, and wife Lita, of Philippines, Marissa Foster and husband Tom, of Grafton, Illinois, Zenaida Tocayon and husband Nonoy, of Philippines, Rodelio Villanueva and wife Elvie, of McPherson, Kansas; her sister Beatriz Hernandez, of Washington; her 35 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Avelina was preceded in death by her parents Benito and Adriana Hernandez; her husbands Eugenio Villanueva and John Cunningham; siblings, Miguela Fernandez, Rita Conception, Carding Hernandez, Sony Hernandez, and Joaquin Fernandez; and daughter Marilyn Indorf. Avelina was born in Manila, Philippines on September 2, 1937, a daughter of Adriana (Javier) and Benito Hernandez. Avelina attended the Manila grade schools, Manila, Philippines. She was a member of New Legacy Church McPherson, Kansas. Avelina was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked on the production line for Central Plastics. Avelina enjoyed cooking, working in her yard and gardening both vegetable and flower, and spending time with her family. Avelina Javier Hernandez was united in marriage to Eugenio B. Villanueva. This union was blessed with the birth of six children, three sons, and three daughters, Roberto, Marilyn, Rolando, Marissa, Zenaida, and Rodelio. Eugenio died in February 2001. Avelina Villanueva was united in marriage to John Duane Cunningham on July 6, 1996. John died on December 28, 2009. She is survived by her children, Roberto Villanueva, of McPherson, Kansas, Rolando Villanueva, and wife Lita, of Philippines, Marissa Foster and husband Tom, of Grafton, Illinois, Zenaida Tocayon and husband Nonoy, of Philippines, Rodelio Villanueva and wife Elvie, of McPherson, Kansas; her sister Beatriz Hernandez, of Washington; her 35 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Avelina was preceded in death by her parents Benito and Adriana Hernandez; her husbands Eugenio Villanueva and John Cunningham; siblings, Miguela Fernandez, Rita Conception, Carding Hernandez, Sony Hernandez, and Joaquin Fernandez; and daughter Marilyn Indorf. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the New Legacy Church, McPherson, Kansas. Delores M. Anderson, 90, of Salina, Kan., passed away Monday, August 2, 2021. She was born September 8, 1930, in Salina, to Philip and Mabel (Anderson) Oborg.

Delores married Eyler Anderson on December 23, 1951, at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, Smolan, Kan. She was a homemaker who loved to take care of her family and enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Eyler; children Barbara Bowman (Joe), Keith, Kurtis (Sherry), and Brent Anderson; eight grandkids; and 17 great-grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Phyllis Cypher, and Wayne and Virgil Oborg, and son, Kory Anderson.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A private family burial will be at Salemsborg Lutheran Church Cemetery, Smolan.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
