Leslie “Les” Eugene Baker, age 87, passed away at his home in Concordia, Kansas on Friday, August 27, 2021. He was born in Fairfax, Missouri on July 5, 1934 to Herman C. and Vada (Callen) Baker.
The family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1945 where he resided until his service in the United States Army. He boxed in the Golden Gloves as a lightweight contender when living in St. Joseph and, also while in the army while stationed in Germany.
On returning from the army, Les moved to Concordia and was a resident for 62 years.
On October 5, 1968 he married Judith Davidson at the First United Methodist Church in Concordia, Kansas.
Les worked for Big A Auto Parts Store in Concordia for many years as a route salesman. He later worked for Alsop Sand Company for more than 10 years.
Besides his family, his love of hunting and fishing were his great joys in life.
Les was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was considered a true friend to those who knew him. He was also the best big brother any little sister could have.
Les is survived by his wife Judy (Davidson) Baker, his daughter Rebecca Zeiher, his sons Brett and Jeff Baker and daughter-in-law Jodi (Trost) Baker, and sister Ann Moran. He has 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Vada.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Pastor Bob Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
