Twila Mae Herrman, 89, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse.

She&nbsp;was born in Victoria, Kansas,&nbsp;on February 18, 1935, to Charles C. and Pia (Geist) Staab. &nbsp;She was a 1953 graduate of Girls Catholic High in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;She worked in the medical records department at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays,&nbsp;until she was married.

On April 23, 1956, she married Alexander A. Herrman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays. &nbsp;They were married for nearly 62 years before Alex’s passing on March 8, 2018. &nbsp;Following their marriage, they moved to the Herrman family farm North of La&nbsp;Crosse,&nbsp;where they resided until 1999 when they retired to La&nbsp;Crosse. &nbsp;

She was a farm wife until 1980 when she went to work at the Rush County ASCS office until 1998. &nbsp;Following her retirement, she was the church secretary and the director of religious education for St. Michael’s Catholic&nbsp;Church, La Crosse,&nbsp;for eight years.

She was an excellent seamstress and made all her daughters&nbsp;First&nbsp;Communion dresses and veils and all her grandchildren’s baptismal outfits. &nbsp;Her Catholic faith was unwavering, and nobody ever went hungry when they were at her house. &nbsp;

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La&nbsp;Crosse,&nbsp;and a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas. &nbsp;She was a 60 plus year member of the Daughters of Isabella of Gorham, Kansas. &nbsp;She was a member of both St. Michael’s and St.&nbsp;Ann’sAltar Society. &nbsp;She was a girl scout leader, band mother and&nbsp;religion teacher. &nbsp;She enjoyed attending all her grandchildren’s activities and was an avid La&nbsp;Crosse Leopard fan. &nbsp;She also cheered for the Kansas City Royals, KU Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs.

She is survived by her four daughters Janel (Rick) Weigel, La&nbsp;Crosse, Jillane (Patrick) Koochel, Great Bend, Jerilyn (Michael) Stull, McCracken, Joyce (Bill) Temanson, Pratt,&nbsp;and one son Glenn (Shanon) Herrman, La&nbsp;Crosse; fourteen grandchildren, Nicholl (Tyler) Beam, Nathan Weigel, Rachel (Tyler) Thompson, Christopher (Lindsey) Koochel, Emily Koochel, Ethan (Stephanie) Koochel, Tayler Stull, Colby Stull, Eli Temanson, Aden Temanson, Isaac Temanson, Brett Herrman, Blake (Kynadi) Herrman, Brooke Herrman,&nbsp;and twelve great grandchildren with number thirteen due in February; three brothers, Kenneth (Charlene) Staab, Hays, Wayne (Louetta) Staab, Dameron Valley, Utah, Lyle (Ann Marie) Staab, Hawthorne Hills,&nbsp;Illinois, and sisters Donna Fisher, Marysville, Kansas, Carol (James) Elias, Indianapolis, Indiana,&nbsp;and sisters-in-law,Florence Herrman, La&nbsp;Crosse,&nbsp;and Patricia Staab, Omaha, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Willard Staab.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La&nbsp;Crosse,&nbsp;with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A vigil service and a St. Ann’s Altar Society rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.&nbsp;

Church visitation will be on Monday January 20, 2025,&nbsp;from 9:00&nbsp;A.M.&nbsp;to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La&nbsp;Crosse.

Funeral service will be Monday January 20, 2025,at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, LaCrosse, with Father Reginald&nbsp;A.&nbsp;Urban officiating. &nbsp;Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Liebenthal.

Marjory F. (VanWey) Zadina, 92, of Beloit, Kansas, died Saturday, January 11, 2025. She was born March 29, 1932 in Ionia, Kansas, the daughter of Leroy "Roy" VanWey and Ruth (Trubey) VanWey. She grew up in Ionia, Kansas and attended Ionia High School, where she graduated in 1950. On October 28, 1950 she married Darus "Bud" Zadina. To this union, daughters, Cindy and Vicki and son, Steven were born.&nbsp;

Marjory worked in the home, at the Banner Burger Bar, known to many locals as "The Banner Lady", and for the home health a division of SRS, for many years. She was a huge fan of the Kansas City Royals, especially Salvador Perez, watching basketball, and tending to her garden.&nbsp;

Marjory was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia; brother, Virgil; husband, Darus; son, Steven. She is survived by daughters, Cindy Schoen (Dean Deitz), Vicki Humiston; granddaughter, Kenda Brewster; great-grandson, Zaden Brewster; great-granddaughter, Zalie Brewster; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held&nbsp;on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 1pm - 4pm&nbsp;at the First Bank Community Room in Beloit, Kansas. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Lorie's spirit was characterized by her caring nature, always sharing a smile and a laugh that could lift anyone's spirits. Her approach to family and friendships was truly unique; each of her grandkids had special nicknames that made them feel valued and equally cherished. Lorie had an extraordinary ability to welcome everyone into her arms, creating a sense of home and safety for all around her. Those who were fortunate enough to know her can undoubtedly recall the warmth of her hugs and the light of her smile, both of which will forever be remembered.

Jodie Douglas, born on July 12, 1967, in Denver, Colorado, passed away on January 2, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. A devoted mother, sister, and aunt, Jodie was known for her honesty and kindness, traits that endeared her to all who knew her. She possessed a remarkable ability to foster connections among those around her, and her radiant smile had a way of bringing people together during both joyful and challenging times.

Jodie completed her education in Sterling, Colorado, graduating from Revere High School in Ovid, Colorado, in 1986. She further pursued her studies at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, where she graduated in 1987. Her academic journey laid the foundation for a life devoted to serving others and nurturing her community.

Throughout her lifetime, Jodie found great fulfillment in her hobbies and the contributions she made to her community. She was passionate about knitting and took immense joy in cultivating her garden every year, eagerly participating in the planting and harvesting. Jodie was also deeply committed to her faith, often attending church and assisting with various events. She enjoyed riding horses years ago with her brothers and family. Jodie and husband Eric's favorite pastime was playing cards, Skip-Bo, and Uno, which she grew up playing with her family. Fishing and yard sales were also among her favorite things to do with Eric and her family. She collected figurines and loved bears, wolves, eagles, and horses. Her volunteer efforts extended to the Red Cross, where she dedicated time and energy, as well as to a local nursing home and the Federal Food Bank in Downs.

Jodie leaves behind her husband Eric Rose of the home. Beloved sons, Zachary Douglas of Hays, Kansas, son Eric Lee Rose of the Downs Kansas, and Lee Rose and wife Christa of Seaford Delaware. Sister Cindy and husband Steve Fowles of Salina, Kansas, brother Dave Douglas of Bennington, Kansas, sister Vicky and husband John Millard of Pueblo West, Colorado, and Lance Douglas of Omaha, Nebraska. Additionally, she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews who will remember her fondly.

Jodie Douglas

Ricky Caldwell, affectionately known as "Rick," was born on February 5, 1963, in Smith Center, Kansas. He passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, surrounded by family and friends in the Critical Care Unit at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon, a place that had become his second home over the past seven years.

Rick dedicated his career to pharmacy, spending his days in the CCU where he earned the respect and affection of his colleagues through his unwavering support and infectious sense of humor. He was known for going above and beyond his job description to assist the medical professionals, proving himself an integral part of the team. In 2022, and again in 2024, he was nominated for the CCU Employee of the Year, a testament to the high regard in which he was held, even if he did not officially belong to that department. His candy stash in the CCU became a popular gathering spot, where he built lasting relationships with his coworkers, who became his Oregon family.

Outside of work, Rick's endearing personality shone through in every aspect of his life. He found joy in traveling to sporting events, especially those linked to Kansas State University. He was also an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals, the Washington Redskins, and NASCAR. He cherished spending quality time with family and friends, whether enjoying dinner and drinks, watching sporting events, attending the races, or sharing moments at church services with his loved ones.

Rick is survived by his son, Riordan Caldwell; brother, Randy Caldwell; sister-in-law, Terry Caldwell; sister, Becky Grabast; brother-in-law, Breck Grabast; nieces, Nan Caldwell, Bethany Grabast, and Brittany (Donald) Cinco; and grandnieces, Terran and Raya Caldwell.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Caldwell; mother, Nina Irene "Tiny" Caldwell; and son, Quinn Caldwell.

Rick's legacy of compassion, humor, and dedication will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the memories he created with those who were fortunate enough to know him. His light will forever remain in the hearts of those he loved.

He passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, surrounded by family and friends in the Critical Care Unit at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon, a place that had become his second home over the past seven years.Rick dedicated his career to pharmacy, spending his days in the CCU where he earned the respect and affection of his colleagues through his unwavering support and infectious sense of humor. He was known for going above and beyond his job description to assist the medical professionals, proving himself an integral part of the team. In 2022, and again in 2024, he was nominated for the CCU Employee of the Year, a testament to the high regard in which he was held, even if he did not officially belong to that department. His candy stash in the CCU became a popular gathering spot, where he built lasting relationships with his coworkers, who became his Oregon family.Outside of work, Rick's endearing personality shone through in every aspect of his life. He found joy in traveling to sporting events, especially those linked to Kansas State University. He was also an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals, the Washington Redskins, and NASCAR. Angeline (Anderson) Stevens&nbsp;passed away peacefully January 12, 2025 at Pinnacle Park Nursing Center,

Angie was born on May 4, 1931 in Hope, Kansas to Cecil A. and Gladys (Book) Plank.

She married Glee Anderson on May 6, 1952. They resided on a farm west of Hope until 1972 when they moved into Hope,&nbsp; In 1996 they relocated to Salina, Kansas where she resided until her death.

Glee passed away September 12, 2005.&nbsp; She married Eugene Stevens in August of 2006.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on October of 2017.

Angie spent many years teaching Sunday School classes and she loved to lead Bible studies for any age.&nbsp; She had recently taught a study at the retirement home where she lived.

Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a constant joy to her and she was very proud of their many accomplishments whether it be through jobs, athletic activities or other interests.

She was preceded in death by; husbands, grandparents, parents, brothers; Gene, Arnold and Thaine Plank; sister Laurel Scott; brother-in-law Bill Scott; sister-in-law Jamie Plank.

Survivors include: Son Darel (Bobbi) Anderson of Hope, Kansas; Daughter Cindy (Brad) Lamer of Salina, KS. Grandchildren: Tami (Kevin) Keller, Tyler Anderson, Brett (Mallory) Lamer, Tanner(Kasey) Anderson. Great grandchildren: Trever and Tysen Keller, Kamryn and Kreyton Anderson, Brecken and Britton Lamer, Kirstin (Collin) Adams and Trenton Keller. Great great granddaughter Bellemy Adams. &nbsp;Elidia Ayala Villalpando, 100, passed away Monday, December 23 2024 at her home in Kanopolis, KS. She was born May 1, 1924 in Ellsworth, KS. Elidia was a homemaker in both Lincoln, KS and Hunter, KS who raised two sons over the course of 35 years. She worked several jobs in that timespan, including cleaning houses, washing and ironing clothes, yard work, homecare for elderly, etc., all to&nbsp;help&nbsp;support her family. Her true love, besides her children and her family, was her gardens, both vegetable and flower where many a summer morning and evening were spent taking special care of them in her floppy summer hat. She will be greatly missed.

&nbsp;Elidia is survived by her sons, Macario “Mack” Villalpando (Darla) of New Cambria, KS and Damian Villalpando of Kanopolis; grandchildren, Richard Black, Devon Hart (Dan), Matthew Villalpando, and James Villalpando; 15 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild; and a brother Elias “Eli” Hernandez of Kanopolis. Udena Elizabeth McKee, 89, of Falun, Kan., passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025. She was born on June 19, 1935, in Salina, Kan., to Albert and Hazel (Shelton) Gorrell, and remained a life-time Saline County resident.

Udena was united in marriage to Keith G. McKee on November 4, 1952, in Abilene, Kan. She worked at Tony’s Pizza from 1971-88, before spending the remainder of her career as a foster Grandma. She kept very busy by volunteering at Tacol thrift shop, in Lindsborg, Kan., coaching women’s softball, and caring for her sister Charlotte for many years. On top of her various activities, she worked as a nurse’s aide in many nursing homes in the area.&nbsp;

She was a passionate Royals fan, where she got to throw the first pitch at a game for Foster Grandmother’s Day. She also enjoyed watching the Chiefs as long as the Royals weren’t on at the same time. Udena was a simple woman who enjoyed attending church and reading her bible and when she found time she liked to visit the salon to have her hair done.&nbsp;

Udena’s passion in life was found when she became a foster grandma. Often when she was out little children would come up to her and say “grandma!” and she would greet them with a warm hug. She was a caring person who made a loving and positive impact on many of these children.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Allan McKee and wife Cheryl of Erie, Kan., Elizabeth Kibler and husband Dennis of Falun, and Darrell McKee and wife Lola of Culver, Kan.; grandchildren, Travis McKee (Amanda), Amy McKee, Brian McKee, Denny Kibler Jr. (Cathy), Christopher Kibler (Jennifer), Chad Kibler (Hilary), Robbie Bergman, J.R. Darcy Lynn Hubka-Vopat, 37, of Russell, Kansas and former Wilson, Kansas resident, died on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas.

Darcy was born on September 1, 1987, in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Ronald J. and Virginia E. “Ginny” (Lawrence) Hubka. Darcy grew up in Wilson, Kansas, and graduated from Wilson High School in the class of 2006. She met the love of her life and was united in marriage to Dustin A. Vopat on July 24, 2015,&nbsp;in Wilson, Kansas. From this union Darcy and Dustin were blessed with three children Bailey, Sydney and Lynley. She has worked for many years as an accounts payable representative with Wilson Communications. She was very involved in her community and worked hard to improve the Wilson and surrounding areas and even won an Ellsworth County Leadership award for her efforts. She was a member of the Wilson City Council Recreation Department, a Wilson Czech Festival Committee member and Organizer and helped coach Wilson Youth Sports. She enjoyed playing volleyball, softball, painting, drawing, and watching Kansas University and Creighton University basketball games. Most of all she enjoyed spending time and taking care of her family. She especially loved to help with and watch her children’s activities, in sports and other events.

Cremation has been selected by the family. A memorial service to celebrate Darcy’s life will be held&nbsp;at 1:00 P.M. on&nbsp;Monday January 20th, 2025,&nbsp;at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell, Kansas.&nbsp;The family&nbsp;will greet guests the day of the service and meet with guests after the service in the church parish hall.&nbsp;In&nbsp;lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Vopat Children’s College Fund and sent in care of the mortuary. Carolyn Sarah Christensen, was born in Lodi Ohio on December 7, 1948 to Harry Carl Shriver and Priscilla Gertrude McMillan. She was the youngest of 4 sisters. Cindy Germscheid, Judy Burrows and Betty Lepley. She was married to John Christensen in 1977, the pair each brought children to the union rounding out the family to 7 kids. 

That family has grown to 14 Grandkids, and almost 10 Great Grandkids. She gave the shirt off her back to anyone who needed it, she opened her home to every kid in the neighborhood. She was colorful, creative and was a bundle of energy. She loved and lost many in her lifetime but found as many ways to remain upbeat as she could, even through 4 family members deploying in 3 different campaigns, loss of her first born, the loss of a second son, 11 years of having Parkinson’s, the loss of her sister and finally her husband just two years ago. 

She will always be remembered for the smiles, the joy, the shenanigans and amazing creativity! We love you to the moon and back Mama, we are at peace knowing Aunt Cindy, Dad, Pat and RJ are protecting you in the next life. Don’t worry Mama, I’ve got overwatch.

Judith Ann (Judy) Bauman passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 at her home south of Abilene. She was born June 24, 1943 in Hope, Kansas the daughter of John and Ida Mae (Roehrman) Stroda.

Judy graduated from Hope High School and was a loving farm wife and also helped with Bauman Carpet in Abilene before retiring.

Judy was a member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

On April 8, 1961 Judy was united in marriage to Joh Bauman in Hope, Kansas. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her daughter Darcy Bauman of Blue Rapids, Kansas, sons Kevin Bauman and his wife Kay of Eudora, Kansas, Jeff Bauman and his wife Jane of Junction City, Kansas, sister Donna Brown of Wichita, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Jackie Klenda.

Eldon Duane Taylor, age 70, passed away in the home on January 5, 2025 after a short illness. Eldon was born on January 12, 1954 in Seattle, Washington, the son of Eldon Duane Burnett and Mernadean Taylor (Lexow). His parents moved to Seattle, but returned when Eldon was 6 months old, as his father and namesake had drowned in an effort to save his uncle. 

Eldon grew up in Abilene where he graduated from high school. He then attended K-state as a member of Beta Sigma Psi, never earning a degree in restaurant management after switching from engineering, but still had the best “five or six years of his life,” according to his t-shirt. Eldon married Kim Cairns in 1985 and had three children, Brandy, Levi, and Elijah before their divorce in 1992. Eldon ran the 76 Truckstop in Solomon, KS on I-70 for 17 years before changing careers and working in procurement while he raised his children as a single dad. He was then able to accomplish his dream and open his own restaurant, E’s Cafe in Solomon, where he could cook breakfast all day. He loved to cook, bake and smoke all day. His retirement was spent in Lawrence, KS living with his daughter Brandy’s family as their “manny,” something he bragged about to anyone who would listen. His life was his children and grandchildren, he was their Papa E. He loved sports: watching them, playing them and coaching them. He never missed a Solomon High School game if his kids were on the team and even set his alarm for any time in the morning to watch Leceister playing ‘football’ from across the pond. Eldon also refought WWII during Axis and Allies games with his best friends for decades. He loved to read and consumed hundreds of books from various genres. Survivors include his sisters Kathy Rasbold of Derby and Annette Wilson (Taylor) married to Evan Wilson of Abilene, his children Levi Taylor of Solomon and Brandy Taylor and her husband Blake Swenson of Lawrence, his grandchildren Nomy, Zinn and Wells Swenson; one step-brother, Steve and wife Kim Taylor of Liberty, MO and a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew Joshua Rasbold and his youngest son, Elijah Taylor.

Services will be at Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. Eldon Duane Taylor

Everett Eugene Hartenstein (Gene), the son of F.T. (Ted) and Mildred Mastin Hartenstein, was born on a farm in Dickinson County, Kansas July 26, 1930, and went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2025 having attained the age of 94 1/2 years.

He attended the county schools and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1948. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Heller in Abilene, Kansas August 5, 1951. They celebrated their 73rd anniversary on August 5, 2024. To this union, 3 children were born. In the early years of their marriage, Gene drove a milk truck for Westside Dairy in Junction City, as well as farming in the Talmage, and then Industry areas of Dickinson County. Following a move to the Buckeye community area in 1964, Gene and Dorothy continued farming and raising cattle and hogs for many years, as well as being a bus driver for Chapman School District. During the 1990s, Gene also worked at ABB in Enterprise in the assembly shop. In 2020, Gene and Dorothy left farming after 68 years, and moved to a home in Chapman, Kansas where he continued to “farm” in his yard by planting, cultivating, propagating, and care taking the many flowers and shrubs he planted. Gene loved his family, farming, raising livestock, visiting with neighbors and friends, and pick-up trucks – this is a love he shared and passed on to his son, Brad, as well as his grandsons, Michael and Brant! One of Gene’s all time favorite things was sitting around the kitchen table at the farm during “break time” and snacking with the kids/grandkids that happened to have stopped by at just the right time to enjoy a Dr. Pepper and a snack with Grandpa and Grandma.

Gene was a long-time member of the Industry evangelical United Brethren Church where he and Dorothy were the youth fellowship leaders for many years. They later attended the Chapman Methodist Church, and in most recent years have been regular attendees as well as members of Emmanuel Church in Abilene.

A kind and friendly Christian man, an honorable man, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle and friend, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy, two daughters, Jean Book (Glenn) of Abilene, Nancy McMaster (John) of Wichita, Kansas; and one son, Brad Hartenstein (Judy) of Manhattan, Kansas; one brother, Wilbur Hartenstein (Joyce) of Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Hartenstein and Carolee Hartenstein, both of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Michael Ade (Christal), Shannon Krueger (Cody), Brian McMaster, Sarah Stalder (Cole), Brant Hartenstein (Jaimee), Traci Keefer (Case), and Austin McMaster; 10 great-grandchildren, Brittany Steede (Derek), Rachel Duer, Brynna Ade, Avery Baer, Josie Baer, Braylea Hartenstein, Ava Brown, Sam Krueger, Wade Krueger, and King Keefer, and one great-great granddaughter, Calliope Elizabeth Steede, plus 3 Bonus grandchildren, Cris (Kerri) Adams, Aaron (Michele) Adams, Lindsay (Matt) Bulk, and 4 Bonus great-grandchildren, Cooper Adams, Kennedy Adams, Olivia Adams, Brynlee Bulk, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Mildred Hartenstein; brothers Ted (Theodore Arthur) Hartenstein and Robert Hartenstein, and his sister, Francis Burdick.

Gene’s home-going service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 18, at the Emmanuel Church in Abilene, the reverend Marc Riegel officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time. A private family burial will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Irish Foundation (Class of 1948 scholarship fund) or Emmanuel Church. Everett Eugene Hartenstein (Gene)

Marilyn JoAnn "JoAnn" Lloyd, 90, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 2nd, 2025.

JoAnn was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on February 7, 1934, the daughter of Edna Pauline (Holmgren) and Fredolph Bernard Oberg. Although an only child, she grew up in a tight-knit family with several cousins living in the Salina and Lindsborg communities.

After graduating from Salina High in 1952, JoAnn attended Bethany College. Later that year, the handsome Airman 1st Class Don Lloyd started attending Salina Bible Church. They married on August 2, 1953, and remained together until his death in May 2024.

JoAnn was an accomplished seamstress with an eye for fashion. She spoiled her daughters with tailor-made clothes and taught knitting and sewing classes at King’s Fabric. The Lord blessed her with an opportunity to work at Sears, where she worked in the catalog and credit departments until she retired in the late 1990s. After her retirement, she started quilting, allowing her to keep her mind nimble.

When JoAnn wasn’t working or sewing, she was serving at church. She taught children’s church for over 30 years, sang in a trio and the choir, and hosted missionaries for meals. She was a phenomenal cook and loved to serve her Lord.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Davis (Pat), of Pipe Creek, Texas, Roxann Lloyd, of Denver, Colorado, Jana Laipple (Brett), of Wathena, Kansas; and son, Jeffery "Jeff" Lloyd (Bev), of Valley Park, Missouri. She is also survived by 2 Grandchildren, Buddy Lloyd (Amber), Janis Hughes (Will); and 3 great grandchildren, Kennedy, Molly, Charlie.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Don Lloyd.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held later.

Marilyn JoAnn "JoAnn" Lloyd

Ralph Edwin Polly, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the age of 75. &nbsp;

Ralph was born on April 13, 1949, at Ellsworth Hospital in Ellsworth, Kansas, to Myra and Willie "Bill" Polly. He was lovingly welcomed into the world by his parents and his older sister, Marilyn. Ralph grew up in Brookville, Kansas, where he shared a special bond with his grandparents, Bertha and Clare Sneath. He attended school in Brookville before graduating from Salina High School. &nbsp;

Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant Polly. He completed two tours in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. His deep pride and patriotic spirit were evident throughout his life. After his military service, Ralph worked for nearly 30 years at Beech Aircraft, later known as Raytheon, until its closure and his retirement. &nbsp;

Ralph had a zest for life and a wide range of interests. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and grilling, gardening, and playing pool, darts, and horseshoes with friends. Music was a cornerstone of his life—his "second heartbeat." Ralph also participated in his high school band and later formed a band of his own. He shared his love of music with his children, often pointing out beautiful guitar solos that moved him deeply. His biggest love was the Beatles, nobody could beat them out, not even Elvis.

Family was central to Ralph’s life. He cherished honoring his family legacy and took pride in reminding his children of their roots. Known for his warm personality and ability to connect with anyone he met, Ralph left an unforgettable impression on all who crossed his path.

Ralph is lovingly remembered by his sister Marilyn Myers; his children: Nathaniel Polly, Sylvia Polly and significant other Justin Covington, William Polly and wife Natalie, Andrea Polly and her fiance John Rudd, and Rena Cox and husband Brad; step-son, Shannon Hutton; as well as his beloved grandchildren: Ethan, Hunter, and Brooklin Hughes; Victor and Nina Vazquez; Hiram, Nayalie, and Ava Polly; and Alannah Polly. He is also survived by his wife, Mitzi Mullen-Polly. Ralph was previously married to Elizabeth Polly and Anita Ahlquist. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Dale Myers; nephews, Wes and Greg Myers; and second wife Anita Ahlquist.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, January 17, at Ryan Mortuary. &nbsp;Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, at Ryan Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at Brookville Cemetery. Family will welcome all those who loved Ralph at Rooster's Tavern for a lunch. Any food contributions would be appreciated. There will be a memorial Spangles night out Tuesday, January 21, from 5-8 p.m. to benefit the family.&nbsp;

He was lovingly welcomed into the world by his parents and his older sister, Marilyn. Ralph grew up in Brookville, Kansas, where he shared a special bond with his grandparents, Bertha and Clare Sneath. He attended school in Brookville before graduating from Salina High School. &nbsp;Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant Polly. He completed two tours in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. His deep pride and patriotic spirit were evident throughout his life. Ralph Edwin Polly

Douglas Kirk Schwan was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 5, 1949 to Al and Doris Schwan. He went to meet his Lord and Savior on December 31, 2024, in Salina, Kansas. After graduating from Marshall Senior High School in Marshall, MN, Doug enlisted in the Navy on June 5, 1967 and was honorably discharged on June 4, 1973. After basic training at the Naval Base in San Diego, CA, Doug served on the USS Hull destroyer during the Vietnam War. He and his shipmates received a Certificate of Appreciation for their service, which was signed by President Richard Nixon. Doug rarely spoke of his Vietnam experience as he witnessed the devastating effects of war.

Doug was proud of his service to St. Mark Church over the years, participating in community canvassing, ushering, church maintenance, Little Lions Preschool and Bible study. He loved the Lord and had a solid faith that allowed him to know with confidence that he was saved and would be with Jesus in heaven at the time of his death.

After his Navy service, Doug worked as a cook in Dodge City, then at Elkan Auto Manufacturing plant in Ellsworth and finally 33 years at the Tony’s Pizza plant in Salina, KS. He took pride in his on-time and consistent work performance.

Doug loved to watch the various Salina softball teams on cool summer nights. He also enjoyed the many movies and documentaries he had in his extensive collection.

Doug is survived by four brothers: Bruce in Kennewick, WA; Mike in Walnut Creek, CA; Kerry in Salina, KS and Mel in Southern Pines, NC.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Doris Schwan.

Viewing of the casket will take place at Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel on Friday, January 24th from 5 – 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at Saint Mark Lutheran Church at 2349 South Ohio Street, Salina, Kansas on Saturday, January 25th at 11 am. He will be buried at the Roselawn Cemetery next to his parents.

Steven Joel Thompson, 63, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on December 23, 2024, at his home.

Steven was born to Gerald and Patricia Thompson on November 25, 1961. He enjoyed spending time with his animals and loved being outdoors, particularly at Kanopolis Lake. Steven also found joy in playing darts and bowling. Known for his stubbornness, he could be difficult at times, but deep down, he was a good person who embraced life and lived it to the fullest.

Steven worked for many years in construction, using his skills as a jack-of-all-trades.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Thompson, and father, Gerald Thompson. Steven is survived by his daughter, Kuta Thompson, and her spouse, Joshua Caswell; his son, Jacob Thompson; and his siblings: Chester Thompson and wife&nbsp; Cheril, Darrell Thompson and wife Stacy, and Lisa Suchy and husband John.

Richard “Max” Pendergrass, age 82, entered into rest on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the North Central Medical Center in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on December 27, 1942 in McPherson, Kansas to Harvey “Pat” and Verda (Mayhew) Pendergrass.

He attended school in El Dorado, Kansas, graduating in 1960. He attended Butler County Community College before joining the US Air Force.

He married Sharon Nickels on September 20, 1964 in El Dorado, Kansas. This union brought two children, Brian and Lisa. The family eventually settled in Concordia, Kansas.

He was a member of The Baptist Church Concordia. He worked for AT&amp;T Long Lines until he retired. He returned to work and found a passion for Kansas One Call where he developed a strong network of associates—everyone in the utilities community knew him.

Max enjoyed following the sports teams of his kids and grandkids. He was always calling to check scores and get reports of the games.Max is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home in Concordia; son, Brian Pendergrass (Lori), Wichita, KS; daughter, Lisa Supple (Chris), Edgerton, KS; grandchildren, Captain Alec Pendergrass, Travis AFB, Haley Pendergrass, Ave Maria, FL, Marin Pendergrass, Wichita, KS, Ellie Supple, Manhattan, KS, and Nicholas Supple, Edgerton, KS.

Billy Joe Davis, 63, Minneapolis, died Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. He was born May 6, 1961, in Salina, to John B. “Jack” and Janice (Parsons) Davis.

Billy was a 1979 graduate of Minneapolis High School. He worked at Coronado Engineering, DesignPlast, and currently at C&amp;R Plating.

Billy and Barbara Kirby were united in marriage on April 10, 2002.

Survivors are his wife, Barb of the home; daughter, April Coetzee and her husband, Daniel of Mullen, NE; step-son, Jarret Jones and his wife, Brooke of Minneapolis; mother, Jan of Minneapolis; brother, Dale of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Drew Michaelson and wife Chloe of Delphos, Blaine Michaelson and wife Chloe of Beloit, D.J., and Bella of Mullen, NE, and Tayden Jones of Minneapolis; great-grandson, Hayes of Beloit; and his beloved dogs, Daisy, Honey, and Freckles.

Susan Marie Padgett, 75, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 7th, 2025.

Susan was born in Salina, Kansas on December 1, 1949, to Eva B. (Ticehurst) and Robert "Bob" Eugene Padgett.

Survivors include a daughter, Eva Costigan (Kenneth), of Mentor, Kansas; son, Daniel Couch (Elizabeth), of Salina, Kansas; and sister, Connie Williams.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Samantha Archer (Travis), Brett Couch, Shyann Andrews; and two great grandchildren.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Padgett.

Lannis grew up on a farm with his family. He was known by most as “Red”. He worked many different jobs in his lifetime. The most enjoyable one was his retirement hobby of antiquing and junking. Throughout the years, he met new people and developed many life-long friendships.&nbsp;

Lannis is survived by his wife, Bonnie Bolte; children Norma (Tom) Schwerman, Laura (Ron) Weber, Phillip Bolte, Michael (Becky) Bolte, Jane Jackson, Jim (Elisha) Bolte, Judy (Gerald) Sekavec, and Francis Bolte; grandchildren Rachel Fath, Ryan Schwerman, Lisa Colson, and Logan Schwerman, Gayle Donaldson, Lucas and Linsey Bolte, Jennifer Shelton, Kris Allen, and Marcus Bolte, Aaryn Jackson, Diedrick and Brandt Bolte, Jocelyn Ishler and Raelyn Bolte; and 17 great grandchildren. Ellis Rushton&nbsp;Norton, 96, passed away on January 3rd, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Ellis was born September 29, 1928, in Bennington KS. to Thomas E.&nbsp;Norton&nbsp;and Iva M. (Struble)&nbsp;Norton. He graduated from Salina High School and attended Kansas Wesleyan University.

On July 14, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Leckington. They shared 71 years of marriage before her death on October 19, 2024.

Ellis was a proud veteran of the US Army serving as a sergeant during the Korean War.

For most of his adult life Ellis and his family lived in Salina, KS. His career started with Nabisco in Burlington, Iowa, then to Chicago and finally to South Bend, Indiana. Family obligations called him back to Salina in 1958. He made a career as a terminal manager for Rock Island Motor Transit and then with Graves Truck Line. He retired from USD 305 in 1990.

Ellis had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, but his true passion was for the game of golf and The Elks Country Club, where Ellis served on the Board of Trustees for numerous years. He spent many hours trying to master the game of golf and finally achieved four holes-in-one. In his later years he enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren play the game of golf. He was a sports enthusiast who loved following local and state sports. He especially loved watching women’s basketball, feeling it was more of an authentic version of the game.

Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 brothers Bill and Tom&nbsp;Norton, and a sister Ila Weller. He was also Preceded in death by a son Jeffery R.&nbsp;Norton&nbsp;and a son-in-law Rick L. Skidmore.

Survivors include his daughters Jennifer Skidmore (Rick, deceased), Janet Gagna (Joe), and son John&nbsp;Norton&nbsp;(Amy).

He was a proud grandfather of 4 grandchildren. Tyler Skidmore (Katie), Justin Gagna (Caitlyn Niemczyk), Parker&nbsp;Norton&nbsp;(Tatum), and Zoe&nbsp;Norton&nbsp;and one great grandchild Sophie Skidmore

A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Great Life Golf &amp; Fitness. A memorial has been established with First Tee-Salina in care of Ryan Mortuary 137 N. 8th&nbsp;St., Salina KS. 67401.
