Nancy Lee Wakefield, 75, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, with family by her side at McPherson Health and Rehab.

She was born February 9, 1950, in Denver, CO, the daughter of Cecil E. and Ruth May (Campbell) Richards.&nbsp; She graduated from Burr Oak High School in Burr Oak, KS.&nbsp; On August 30, 1969, Nancy was united in marriage to Richard Wakefield in Belleville, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nancy worked as an insurance supervisor at Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance.&nbsp; She was a member of Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson.

She found great joy in oil painting and often shared her artwork with others. Her love for flowers extended from gardening to crafting beautiful artificial arrangements. A passionate traveler, she especially enjoyed bus tours with Richard that allowed them to explore new places. She also loved reading, walking, and spending time with her beloved apricot miniature poodle, Beau. In her younger years, she cherished the warmth of family gatherings, standing around the piano with her siblings as their mother played the piano, and they all sang together. Of all her life’s moments, the one she treasured most was marrying Richard, the love of her life.

Survivors include her loving husband, Richard of the home; a brother, Glen “Rip” Richards (Candy) of Apache Junction, AZ; a sister, Ellen Gray of Whiting, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Richards; mother &amp; step-father, Ruth and Bill Dillon; and two sisters, Patricia Howell and Ruthie Richards.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Terrence “Terry” Ray Regehr, 65, of Galva, KS and formerly of Moundridge, KS, was called to his Heavenly home due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in McPherson County, KS.

He was born April 29, 1960, in Lindsborg, KS, the son of Jane (Krehbiel) and Robert Regehr. Terry attended the Moundridge schools and graduated from Moundridge High School in 1979.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Terry was a truck driver for Vogts Earth Moving, JL Unruh Trucking, and Royer Brothers Tree Service.&nbsp; He was currently working at Benchmark Plastics.

Survivors include seven siblings: twin brother, Tim (Rebecca) Regehr of Galva, KS, Jo (Tony) Unruh of Galva, KS, Karin (Darin) Vauter of Powhatan, VA, Brad (Ashley) Harris of Moseley, VA, Shelby Harris of Chesterfield, VA, Roger (Terra) Regehr of Canton, KS, and Lori Spain of Glen Allen, VA; longtime companion, Tamra Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane &amp; Bob Regehr; birth mother, Virginia (Jerry) Harris; and a brother, Michael Harris.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 22, at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge.&nbsp; Burial will follow the service at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Marlene F. Neilson, 91 years of age, of Mankato passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025, at her home peacefully surrounded by her beloved family.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was born on July 12, 1934, in Fairfield, Nebraska,&nbsp;to Wesley and Vera (Wallenberg) Shunkwiler.

She married Murlin Neilson on September 13, 1952.&nbsp;&nbsp;Six children were born to this union, Donald, Roger, Debra, Kathy, Mona, and Michael.

She enjoyed gardening, bowling, coffee with the girls, reading, traveling, cooking and most of all, time spent with family.

Marlene was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post #783 Aux., of Mankato, Kansas.

Marlene was a home maker, farm wife, bookkeeper, and&nbsp;worked for Mankato School District USD #278 in the cafeteria department as a cook.Marlene is survived by her three sons, Donald (Laurie) Neilson, Roger (Jo) Neilson, Michael Neilson; two daughters, Kathy (Fred) Putman, and Mona Terry.; grandchildren, Billy, Megan, James, Jesse, Krystal, Lara, Kari, Mikkie, Melissa, Daana, and Morgan; 21 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Linda Herbek and 1 brother, Bill Shunkwiler.She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Vera, her Husband, Murlin, Daughter, Debra Fogo, brothers Wesley, Curtis, Kenneth, David, and Keith Shunkwiler.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 1-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas.

Ralph Leo Kimminau, 86, Beloit, Kansas, passed away at Mitchell County Health Center&nbsp;on August 13, 2025. 

He was born on May 3, 1939 to William Joseph and Loretta Catherine (Weingardt) Kimminau in Edgewater, CO.&nbsp;He attended school in Lawrence, Nebraska. When he was old enough, he joined the&nbsp;US Army.&nbsp;

Ralph married Lorena Marie Flageolle on July 18, 1964 in Stratton, Colorado. This 60&nbsp;year union brought four children; Scott, Teresa, Todd, and Leanne. He worked at the Dubuque Packing Plant, and later for the City of Mankato. Ralph was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking,&nbsp;building things, fishing, a good poker game, and especially playing cards with his family and friends.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Lorena Kimminau; children, Scott Kimminau (Kathy) of Arvada, Co, Teresa Bonfante (Todd) of Aurora, Co, Todd Kimminau (Roxanne) of Beloit,&nbsp;KS, and Leanne Eilert (Leo) of Beloit, KS; grandchildren, Kelsey Hankins (Kyle), Ciara&nbsp;Kimminau, Lexie Kimminau, Tanner Kimminau, Emma Bonfante, Abigail Bonfante, Elliot&nbsp;Kimminau, TeJay Kimminau, Garrett Kimminau (Sage), Lyddia Crawford (Devin), and&nbsp;Maggie Eilert; four great grandchildren; siblings, Ferdinand Kimminau (Vi), Albert&nbsp;Kimminau, Stanley Kimminau and Kenneth Kimminau; and a host of nieces and&nbsp;nephews.&nbsp;

Larry Dean Nelson, 69, of New Cambria, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, surrounded by the family he built and loved.

Born June 22, 1956, in Salina, Kansas, Larry was the son of Dorcas (Smith) and Darrell Nelson. He grew up with grit, heart, and a strong sense of loyalty—traits that stayed with him for life.

Larry married Claudia on October 11, 1997, his partner through thick and thin. Together, they raised a big family that was never short on laughter, hard work, or love.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughter, Lauren Nelson (Shaun) of Abilene and six sons, Lyle Nelson (Kait) of New Cambria, Lucas Nelson of Carlton, Jordan Baxter (Ashlye) and Bryce Nelson (Tabatha), both of Lindsborg; Jason Baxter (Marie) of Lincoln, and Chris Baxter (Karissa) of North Carolina; and bonus daughter-in-law, Brandy Baxter of Buhler.

Larry was a proud grandpa to Grace, Ella, Clare, Adaline, Riley, Miranda, Shaun, Lawson, Oaklynn, Madison, Morgan (Josh), Crystine, Lacie, Faith, Dillon (Marivel), Dominick, Colton, and Kameron—and a great-grandpa to Maverick, Wil, and Kaylonie. He also leaves behind a crew of nieces, nephews, and extended family who knew him as steady, strong, and always willing to lend a hand.

He’s also survived by his brothers, Ron Nelson (Deb) and Randy Nelson (Cindy), both of New Cambria. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Steve Nelson, and his sister, Patricia Youngdahl.

Larry was a man of few words and firm values. He believed in hard work, showing up, and taking care of his own. Whether he was fixing something, offering quiet advice, or just being present, he led by example. His legacy lives on in the strength and character of his family.In accordance with his wishes, cremation has been chosen.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 22 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 23 at Highland Cemetery in New Cambria.

Born in Arizona on October 29, 1959, to Harold “Dean” Fogle and Mildred (Applegarth) Fogle, Tim entered the world with a spark in his eye and a zest for life that never faded. From his earliest days, he was a spirited soul—with an adventurous streak, boundless curiosity, and abounding grace.

Tim graduated from Concordia High School in 1977 before attending Cloud County Community College and Kansas State University. His passion for computers began long before they became a modern necessity. A cutting-edge computer expert at heart, Tim patiently waited for the right opportunity to step into his dream career.

In the meantime, he proved himself a man of many talents, leaving a lasting mark in every role he took on—from working in the dairy industry driving milk tanker trucks to ultimately leading the IT department at Cloud County Community College. His diverse career path reflected both his adaptability and his commitment to excellence.

Tim’s truest identity was found not in his work, hobbies, or skills, but in his faith. His relationship with Jesus was authentic, steadfast, and transformative. He lived with integrity, loved without reservation, and extended grace as freely as he had received it.

While working on vehicles—and likely showing off his muscle car—Tim met the love of his life, LeAnn Hedberg. They were united in marriage on August 27, 1983. Together they raised two daughters, teaching valuable life lessons and sharing the knowledge of the Lord and Savior.

In 1996, Tim faced a life-changing diagnosis—Parkinson’s disease. One of the youngest to be diagnosed at the time, he faced the challenge head-on. He participated in experimental treatments, from medications to procedures to brain surgery performed while fully awake. Though Parkinson’s affected his body, it never dimmed his spirit. His joy remained unshakable because it was anchored in the Lord, and he refused to let the disease define him.

After a long, courageous battle, Tim has now entered the presence of his Savior. The adventurer has been welcomed into perfect peace. The farmer has found his eternal harvest. The tech wizard now beholds the Creator of all wonders. And the man of faith walks streets of gold, hand in hand with the One he loved most.

Tim was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Dean and Mildred, and his brother, Howard. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, LeAnn (of Great Bend, KS); his daughters, Elizabeth (Jesse) Lundquist (of Edson, KS) and Sarah (Kenton) LaRosh (of Osborne, KS); and his seven cherished grandchildren: Kayla, Kaleb, and Kody LaRosh; Ethan, Grace, Asa, and Ezra Lundquist. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie (John) Horkman (of Concordia, KS); sister-in-law, Leslie Fogle (of Plainville, KS); many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who were blessed by his life.

Gregory Russell Allen, 60, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, surrounded by family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp;

He was born May 5, 1965, in Dallas, TX, the son of Oscar William “Bill” and Connie Sue (Horyna) Allen.&nbsp; Greg attended the Kansas School for the Deaf in Olathe, KS, where he enjoyed playing on the football team.&nbsp; On April 10, 2010, Greg was united in marriage to Audrey Lynn Simmons in McPherson.

Greg worked at Walmart for 23 years, mostly in the shipping &amp; receiving and maintenance department.&nbsp;

Survivors include his loving wife, Audrey Allen of the home; mother, Connie Allen of McPherson, KS; sister, Sonya Moon of McPherson, KS; brother, Eric Allen of McPherson, KS; a niece and nephew, Savannah Moon and Avery Moon; three step-children; five step-grandchildren; and many additional nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, an uncle, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Allen, and brother-in-law, Billy Joe Moon.

Clara A. Vignery, 91, of Bennington passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 21, 1934 in Minneapolis, KS to William Clarence and Mary Kathryn (Felton) Krone.&nbsp;

Clara&nbsp;and Garold “Wayne” Vignery Sr. were united in marriage on May 20, 1961. Clara was a salad girl at Asbury Hospital from age 16 until she married Wayne. After marriage she was a babysitter and homemaker. Clara enjoyed dancing with Wayne, knitting, crocheting, and making her famous cornbread and red velvet cake for family and friends at the Bennington Senior Center.&nbsp;

She was sadly preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Wayne, her parents and grandson Derek Edgerton and five brothers and six sisters.

Clara’s legacy of love and kindness will live on through her loving family. Her daughters Debby Edgerton of Salina, KS and Cindy Coleman of Florida. Clara was also survived by sons Garold Wayne Vignery Jr (Jennifer) of Bennington, Allen Vignery(Denise) also of Bennington and Melvin Vignery of Oregon. Her grandchildren include: Cassandra Edgerton, Cody Edgerton(Ashlynn), Sharon Gaughan, Christopher Coleman(Myrta), Jesse Vignery, Eric Johnston, Amanda Vignery, Terry Vignery(Julie), Sheila Searcy(Jim), Samantha Fyfe, August DeGraff, Jordan Vignery, Kevin Vignery(Shabri), Stephanie McDaniel(Chance), and many cherished great grandchildren.

Gary Dean Enfield Sr., 67, of Salina, passed away on August 11, 2025. Gary was born on October 30, 1957, in Pratt, Kansas, to Vincent LeRoy Enfield and Mae E. (Enfield) Millen.&nbsp;

Growing up in Pratt, Gary played baseball with local recreational teams. He was also an accomplished musician, playing guitar, bass, and singing. After high school, Gary worked in the oil fields in and around Pratt. He later moved to Great Bend, where he became a CNA and spent several years working in the healthcare field. Eventually, he relocated to Salina to continue his career.&nbsp;

Gary enjoyed spending time outdoors, with fishing and camping being his favorite pastimes. He also loved being with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.&nbsp;

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Enfield and Mae Millen; his brother, Larry Enfield of Norton; and his granddaughter, Alyssa Williams of Haysville.&nbsp;

He is survived by his brother, Danny (Jane) Enfield of Iowa; his sister, Carolyn (Bill) Graves of Ellsworth, KS; his sons, Gary Jr (Kendra) Enfield of Haysville, KS, and Vincent (Victoria) Enfield of Haysville, KS; his grandchildren, Zayla Enfield, Caitlin Williams, Alexander Enfield, and Isabella Warne; and his great-grandchild, Elias Arredondo.&nbsp;

Jolene Rena Cox passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at her home in Salina, Ks, with her husband and family by her side.

She was born on September 27, 1960.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Lawrence and Barbara Mayer (Bullock) in Gypsum, Ks, where she was raised on a dairy farm.&nbsp; She graduated from Southeast of Saline high school and, later, graduated from Brown Mackie College in Salina.

For over 30 years, Jolene worked at Tony's Pizza, in Salina, where she had been a lead on a production line and later worked in the Warehouse.

She married Timothy Leon Cox on October 9, 2010 in Salina.&nbsp; They attended Crossroads Church.

Jolene had a passion for flowers, beauty, and caring for the people she loved.&nbsp; She was always trying out different creative pursuits in the arts ----- painting ceramics, embroidery, quilting, sewing, baking, and, of course, gardening.&nbsp; Her backyard was, always, an oasis of beauty, birds, and an invitation to rest.&nbsp; She wanted to save every wayward flower and injured or abandoned animal.&nbsp; She went above and beyond to care for those she loved.

You might think Jolene was quiet and shy, but she was observant, caring, and loved deeply.&nbsp; She had a big heart and the best smile!

Survivors include her husband Timothy, son Kevin Kruse of Lawrence, Ks, daughter Kristina Snider and her husband John of Grandview, Mo, grandchildren Elliot and Caia Snider, brother Richard Mayer of Gypsum, Ks, and sister Wanda Shaw of Salina.

Jolene is preceded in death by her parents and sister Rhonda Mayer.

Jolene Rena Cox

Charles Edward Atkinson passed away on August 13, 2025, at his home after a year of battling cancer. 

Charles was born to George and Esther (Salstrand) Atkinson in Spencer, Nebraska on October 28, 1934. He attended Central Christian College in McPherson, KS where he met his future wife, Phyllis Hess. They were married on August 24, 1955, at the Caldwell Free Methodist Church, and would have been married 70 years on this anniversary.

Charles received his BA degree from McPherson College and his M.S. Degree in History from the University of Kansas. He taught at Galva High School, Iola Jr. High, and Minneapolis High School. Besides teaching History and Psychology, his teaching career of 34 years included coaching Basketball, Football, Cross Country and Golf.

Charle's teaching career was interrupted by two years in the United States Army. He was stationed in Baltimore, Md with the Counter Intelligence Corp.

After retiring from teaching, he and his wife moved to a small farm just north of Minneapolis. They raised alpacas during the last decade on the farm. Charles and Phyllis processed the fleece themselves and sold the yarn as a finished product. This provided much enjoyment for the couple. He had his own business known as “Charlie's Remodeling.” He and Paul Reidel also installed volleyball standards in many gyms across Kansas and a few in Nebraska.

Charles was a member of the Minneapolis Free Methodist church, and served in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Lay Leader, and Delegate to the Great Plains Conference. Following the closure of the Free Methodist Church, he and Phyllis joined the Hall Wesleyan Church. Charles committed his life to Jesus Christ and a young boy and lived a faithful Christian life.Charles served on the Board of Trustees of the Cedars Retirement Community of McPherson, was a member of NEA, KNEA, North Ottawa County Teachers Association, Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, and the Kansas Alpaca Association.

Preceding Charles in death are his parents, four brothers; Lawrence, Melvin, Don, and Les; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Atkinson.Survivors are his wife, Phyllis; their four children, Rick (Pam), Phil (Vicky), Jarilyn Louden (Terry), and K. Scot.; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; with another on the way in September; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 22 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday August 23, at Hall Wesleyan Church, 1937 N. 160th Road, Delphos, KS. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Charles was born to George and Esther (Salstrand) Atkinson in Spencer, Nebraska on October 28, 1934. He attended Central Christian College in McPherson, KS where he met his future wife, Phyllis Hess. They were married on August 24, 1955, at the Caldwell Free Methodist Church, and would have been married 70 years on this anniversary.Charles received his BA degree from McPherson College and his M.S. Degree in History from the University of Kansas. He taught at Galva High School, Iola Jr. High, and Minneapolis High School. Besides teaching History and Psychology, his teaching career of 34 years included coaching Basketball, Football, Cross Country and Golf.Charle's teaching career was interrupted by two years in the United States Army. He was stationed in Baltimore, Md with the Counter Intelligence Corp.After retiring from teaching, he and his wife moved to a small farm just north of Minneapolis. They raised alpacas during the last decade on the farm. Charles and Phyllis processed the fleece themselves and sold the yarn as a finished product. This provided much enjoyment for the couple. He had his own business known as “Charlie's Remodeling.” He and Paul Reidel also installed volleyball standards in many gyms across Kansas and a few in Nebraska.Charles was a member of the Minneapolis Free Methodist church, and served in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Lay Leader, and Delegate to the Great Plains Conference. Following the closure of the Free Methodist Church, he and Phyllis joined the Hall Wesleyan Church. Charles committed his life to Jesus Christ and a young boy and lived a faithful Christian life.Charles served on the Board of Trustees of the Cedars Retirement Community of McPherson, was a member of NEA, KNEA, North Ottawa County Teachers Association, Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, and the Kansas Alpaca Association.Preceding Charles in death are his parents, four brothers; Lawrence, Melvin, Don, and Les; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Atkinson.Survivors are his wife, Phyllis; their four children, Rick (Pam), Phil (Vicky), Jarilyn Louden (Terry), and K. Scot.; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; with another on the way in September; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 22 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday August 23, at Hall Wesleyan Church, 1937 N. 160th Road, Delphos, KS. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Charles Edward Atkinson

David E. Lehman, 64 of Abilene passed away August 12, 2025. He was born September 9, 1960 in Abilene, the son of Frank and Mary (Gfeller) Lehman. David graduated Abilene High School in 1978. 

After graduating, he went to Kansas State University and later earning his Bachelors at MU. He was a professor at KSU and MU teaching marketing and economics. 

David is survived by his three brothers: Roger, Thomas and Michael (Stacey) Lehman. Seven nephews: Kenton and Kalen Howard; Blaise, Brock, Brogan and Bentley Lehman and Lucas Lehman. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Deanna Lehman and Sandra Howard. 

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 18, 2025 at the Abilene City Cemetery with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. 

Family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 -7 P.M., at Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given to The Community Foundation of Dickinson County.

David E. Lehman

Linda Annette Hendrix, 59, of Salina, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Salina Regional Health Center.

She was born July 30, 1966, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Lewis “Lew” L. and Marilyn E. (Sjogren) Hendrix.&nbsp; Linda graduated from McPherson High School in 1984 and continued her education at Sidney’s Hairdressing College, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She also received a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) degree and worked at area nursing homes.&nbsp; Later, she worked at Walmart.

Linda was a proud member of the Marquette American Legion #253 Auxiliary. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and shooting pool. Throughout her life, she found joy in crocheting, camping in Lindsborg, and the excitement of dirt track racing. She also had a special fondness for collecting stuffed animals—especially teddy bears. Above all, Linda cherished her family and loved being part of every family gathering. She was the go-to person for baking family birthday cakes, a tradition she embraced with love and care.

Survivors include her children, Krystal Hendrix (Jordon Hayden) of Salina, KS and Jesse Freeman (Amber Falk) of Tescott, KS; mother, Marilyn Hendrix of McPherson, KS; sister, Tracey (Robert) Miller of McPherson, KS; niece, Ashley (Jon) Bennett of Valley Center, KS; nephew, Taylor Miller of McPherson, KS; two grandchildren, Chance Betzner and Cadin Betzner; grandpups, Batty and Moka; grandcats, Ghost and Valö; and many extended family members, “adopted” children, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lew Hendrix.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Joshua “Josh” Brandon Davis, age 41, of Salina, Kansas, passed from this life on Saturday, August 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, resilience, and quiet devotion.

He was born beneath the wide skies of Colby, Kansas, on October 10, 1983. Josh was the chosen child of Keli (Todd) and Bruce Burfield.

On November 15, 2014, in the gentle heart of Wells, Kansas, Josh married Angela. Their union was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and shared dreams. Together, they raised a family that became the center of his world.

Josh is lovingly remembered by his wife, Angela; his chosen daughter, Mariah Riddick; and his chosen son, Marvin Riddick Jr., all of Salina; his sisters, Heather Colonnese, Shannon Colonnese; and his aunt, Sister Carol Davis. He was a proud grandfather to Izzabella, Lilly, Hunter, and Willow—each a bright light in his life, each a chapter in the story he helped write.

He is preceded in death by his biological mother, Peggy Davis and his grandparents, Gary and Toni Davis.To those who knew him, Josh was a steady presence—a man of quiet kindness, deep loyalty, and a heart that beat for his family. His absence leaves a silence that echoes with love.Cremation was chosen, as per his wishes.

Two memorial services will be held to celebrate Josh’s life and spirit:- Saturday, August 23 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Salina, Kansas- Sunday, August 24 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Spiritualist Church, Wells, Kansas.

We gather here today to celebrate and honor the life of a truly remarkable woman, Dorothy Maxine (Nelson) Poppen, who left us at the age of 109 years. Born on February 22, 1916, on the family farm north of Logan, Kansas, she was the daughter of Carl and Bessie Nelson. Maxine's life was one of great strength, resilience, and love.

Maxine was a woman who knew the value of hard work from an early age. She spent her childhood years on the farm, helping her mother with chores and caring for her two younger sisters. While her siblings worked in the fields with their father, Maxine was at home, contributing to the household in any way she could. She attended North Starr Country School, but her journey to education took a pause as she worked in a bakery to support her family.

In her early adulthood, Maxine moved to Craig, Colorado, where she met the love of her life, Alfred Poppen. They were married on December 18, 1936, in Idaho Springs, Colorado, and eventually settled in Alfred's hometown of Downs, Kansas. There, Maxine and Alfred built a life together, raising two daughters, Linda and Wanda, and making a home filled with love and warmth.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Maxine was an active member of her community. She worked at several local businesses, including Rogers Variety Store, Stigge Department Store, and True Family Center. Later, she found joy in volunteering at Carefree Years and the Downs Nursing Center. Her involvement in the Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Downs Senior Center reflected her deep commitment to both her faith and her community.

Maxine's talents were many. She was an extraordinary seamstress, creating beautiful clothes for her daughters and granddaughter. Her crochet work was delicate and stunning—her doilies and tablecloths will always be cherished as beautiful reminders of her craftsmanship. But Maxine's talents extended beyond sewing; she had a love for carpentry and refinished furniture with skill and care. She was, in every sense, a woman who could make something beautiful out of anything, whether it was fabric, wood, or a piece of furniture in need of love.

Maxine was a woman of great strength and independence. She lived in her own home until the age of 98, a testament to her vitality and spirit. Even after moving to the Golden Living Center, she continued to celebrate many birthdays and holidays surrounded by family, always in good health and high spirits.

Maxine's love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Wilbur) Chartier of Clyde, Kansas, and Wanda (Maurice) Hancock of Downs, Kansas; her granddaughter, Erica (Jeremy) Thompson of Katy, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Lindy Thompson, also of Katy. Her legacy of love, care, and resilience will live on in all of them.

Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Alfred, her parents Carl and Bessie Nelson, her brother Willard Nelson, and her sisters Bernice Gartin, Doris McWhorter, and infant sister Erma Nelson.

Today, as we remember Maxine, we celebrate the fullness of her life. We remember her strength, her generosity, and the love she gave so freely. We honor her ability to adapt, to love, and to make a difference in the lives of those around her. She leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten—a legacy built on family, community, and a life well-lived.

Maxine's life reminds us all of the importance of perseverance, the beauty of craftsmanship, and the value of caring for others. Barbara “Barb” Ann Wilson, 92, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, enduring love, and deep family roots.

Born on a winter morning, January 5, 1933, in Salina, Barb was the daughter of Ethel Mae (Nelson) and Henry W. Greiner. She grew up in the heart of Kansas, where the values of hard work, kindness, and resilience were woven into her character from an early age.

On October 27, 1953, Barb married Donald Wilson in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life filled with devotion and purpose—a partnership that weathered seasons and celebrated joys. Their home in Salina became a gathering place for family, laughter, and the kind of love that quietly shapes generations.

Barb was a mother first and always. She poured her heart into raising her three children: Debra Boyer (Brian), Marta Nelson, and Brad Wilson (Angie), all of Salina. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Jon Nelson and Anna Nelson, and to her two great-grandchildren, whose presence brought light to her later years.

She carried the memory of those she lost with grace—her parents, her beloved husband Donald, and her grandson Travis Fisher—holding them close in spirit even as life moved forward.

Barbara “Barb” Ann Wilson

Wanda Ruth Markley, age 88, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Born on October 18, 1936, in Wells, Kansas, Wanda was the daughter of Leonard Kuhlmann and Agnes Reh. Her early life was rooted in the values of family, faith, and community—principles that guided her throughout her years.

Wanda transferred to Bennington High School during her teenage years, where fate intervened at a school ball game. With a little encouragement from her cousin, Tomas Markley offered her a ride home to Wells—and from that moment on, their story began. After nearly four years of courtship, Wanda and Tom were married on June 6, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Wells, Kansas. That cherished church now stands preserved at the Central Kansas Flywheels Yesteryear Museum, a testament to the enduring legacy of the past.

In 1991, Wanda and Tom built their dream home, where they enjoyed many years of comfort and companionship. Upon partial retirement in 2000, they embraced their love of travel, spending four months each year on the road. Together, they explored all 50 states, several Canadian provinces—many more than once—and even ventured overseas to England. Though their wanderlust never waned, they eventually settled into a quieter rhythm of life, moving to Presbyterian Manor in Salina in September 2021.

Wanda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas “Tom” Markley; her parents; and her sister, Norlene Razak. She is survived by her son, Chuck Markley (Kelley), of Prescott Valley, Arizona.

In keeping with Wanda’s wishes, cremation has been chosen and no formal services are planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring Wanda’s spirit of generosity and service.

Wanda Ruth Markley

Madelon (Ranney) Hardy, 83, Delphos, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, in Concordia, with her daughters at her side. She was born September 24, 1941, in Concordia to Harry and Magdalena (Veverka) Ranney.

          Madelon was a 1959 graduate of Delphos High School. She and Leroy Bremerman were married, and four children were born; Ron, Rachel, Martina and M.J. They later divorced and she married Maurice “Al” Hardy, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2008.

          Madelon worked many jobs throughout her lifetime. She was a hard worker who always believed in being a giver and not a taker. Madelon was a faithful member of Words of Light Fellowship Church.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Leroy and Al; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Hazel Ranney; brother-in-law, Allen Atwell; and great nephew, Levi Shipley.

          Survivors are her children, Ron Bremerman, Rachel Peters and her husband, Bob, Martina Gieber and her husband, David; and M.J. Bremerman; sister, Deloros Atwell; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

          The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, August 17 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Graveside services will be at 9:00 A.M., Monday, August 18 at the Bohemian National Cemetery. 

Memorial services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Words of Light Fellowship Church, Delphos. 

Memorials may be made to the Madelon Hardy Memorial Fund for benches in her memory and may be left in care of the funeral home
