August 9, 1950 – August 28, 2024, father, grandfather, road construction savant, patriotic American, Joe White was truly a good man. Born in Washington DC to Edward M. and Margaret E. White.

 Joe attended school in the Prince William County Public Schools, eventually attending Stonewall Jackson High School. After a few odd jobs, Joe decided to enlist in the US Army from September 1967 to January 1971. Joe’s military service included a tour in Vietnam along with stateside duty stations at Ft. Leornard Wood, MO and Ft. Riley, KS. 

Joe completed Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Leornard Wood and was designated as a combat engineer specializing as Carpentry and Masonry Specialist. He was deployed to Pleiku, Vietnam and took part in Tet 69 Counter Offensive, and VN Summer – Fall 1969; during his time deployed he built key infrastructure facilities and participated in building, maintaining, defending, and operating transportation routes from Pleiku to key areas in Qui Hhon and AN Khe. Joe’s combat operations came in defense of these key supply routes, as he received Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Overseas Bars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 VC, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge (M-14 &amp; M-16).

Joe completed his service and was honorably discharged from the Army at Fort Riley Kansas in 1971. Joe was part of a large family in Manassas Park, VA, he was 1 of 8 siblings. Joe’s brothers were Mike, Robert (Skip), Steve, Bill, and Rick, sisters Chris, and Sue. Even with a large family waiting his return Joe remained in Kansas; meeting Brenda Torrey in Salina, KS and marring her in December 1970 where they parented three boys, Ron White (Sae Kyong) of Oklahoma City, Tim White (Jamie) of Salina, and James White (Suzanne Smith) of Salina.&nbsp;

Joe was able to establish his lifetime career shortly after leaving the Army. He began his career with Brown and Brown and stayed in the road business his entire adult life. The companies changed, but Joe stayed a consistent employee until his retirement in 2016. Joe was with the company so long, he worked up the ladder, and eventually back down as employees he once hired kept him employed as he made his way to retirement. His job was his passion; he routinely would share his projects with his sons and anyone who wanted to listen. He received several awards for his projects throughout the years and received several certifications in his trade. 

Throughout the years he was known as the rode paver savant for his advanced paver operating skills. Joe’s other passions were guns, camping, fishing and boating, but his biggest passion was his family. 

Joe fathered three boys who had several grandkids; Ron and Sae White – Jessica Conrad (Colton), Andrew White (Samantha); Tim White – Taylor White (Kylie), Colton White (Desiree) and MJ White. Colton and Desiree recently made Joe a great-grandfather with the birth of their son, Branson. Joe also has many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mike and Skip.

Joseph "Joe" White

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marlene Kay Arthur, on August 27, 2024, at the age of 76 in Lincoln, Kansas. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and love.

Born on November 22, 1947, at home in Vesper, Kansas, Marlene was the daughter of Leo and Lillian Flaherty. She grew up in Lincoln County, Kansas and later moved to Arizona and then back to Kansas where she continued to build a life full of love and joy with her children. Marlene was known for her generosity, warmth, and strong work ethic and was always there with a listening ear and a comforting hug.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Roy, Don, Butch Flaherty, and Charlene DeWitt.

She is survived by her children Wayne, Nathan (Nate) and his wife, Yee Ming, and Lillian (Lily) Arthur; granddaughter, Evana (Eva) Arthur; siblings, LaVern (Sharon), David (Aleta), Herb, Harold, and Denny Joe Flaherty; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marlene was a proud mother to Wayne, Nate and Lily, and her legacy of love and strength will live on through them.

Marlene dedicated her life to her children, and family. She enjoyed attending many sporting events and watching the Kansas Jayhawks and Chicago Cubs (she also liked watching the Game Show Network).

She retired from Tony’s Pizza in Salina, Kansas after 27 years. She is remembered for her work ethic, her volunteer service at Beverly United Methodist Church, and many other activities. Her commitment to family was a testament to her kind nature and her belief in making the world a better place. She was extremely proud of her children and everything they accomplished.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 28, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Beverly Community Center, in Beverly, Kansas, with a meal preceding at 1:00 p.m. for those who wish to attend. All who knew Marlene are welcome to join us in honoring her memory and sharing in the stories and love she so generously gave.

Helen Adair Gregg (née Peterson), 72, of Salina, passed away August 29, 2024.&nbsp; Born&nbsp; July 24, 1952, in Rhode Island, Helen lived a life marked by her devotion to education, faith, and the arts.

Helen pursued a successful career as a history teacher, imparting wisdom and a passion for learning to her students. She held a Master's degree in education, which she utilized to inspire and educate countless young minds throughout her career.

A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Helen was deeply involved in her faith community. Her commitment extended beyond attendance as she actively contributed by creating videos for church events, blending her spiritual life with her creative talents.

An accomplished painter, Helen also expressed her love for the arts through vibrant canvases, often sharing her work with family and friends. Her artistic spirit was an integral part of her identity, bringing beauty and joy to those around her.

Helen was a loving, kind, and generous person, always thinking of others first. She is survived by her husband, Larry Gregg; daughters, Heather Dennis and Elizabeth Freeman; grandchildren, Parker Roth, Ryleigh Roth, Madison Freeman, Drake Freeman, and Haley Freeman; great-granddaughter, Rhenlee Roth; brother, Terry Peterson; sister-in-law, Susan Peterson; and niece, Ingrid Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Louise Peterson, and brothers, Dale and Robin Peterson, along with her nephew, Sven Peterson.

Gregory Allen Myers, 63, of Ellis KS, passed away August 6, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on July 18, 1961, to Dale and Marilyn Myers (Salina). Greg had a deep passion for stained glass art, especially Tiffany lamps. He enjoyed various crafts and was known for his creativity and independent spirit. Greg worked hard and generously offered his help to anyone in need. His love for animals and his natural sense of humor brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.

Survivors include his mother, Marilyn Myers of Salina; daughter, Tiffany Myers; grandchildren, Ava and Remington all of Wamego; sister, Laura Myers-Bowles (Brian) of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Stephanie Romaine (John) of Salina; nieces, Kyndra Miller (Alex) of Brookville, Brittany Kuder (Kevin) of Minneapolis, Cherie Bruce (Kelly) of McPherson and nephew, Zach Smith of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Allen Myers, and brother, Wesley Dale Myers.

Mary Ellen Rein, 80, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, after a short illness.&nbsp;

Mary was born on November 19, 1943, to Harlan and Sarah Holmes. Throughout her life, she traveled extensively both within the U.S. and internationally, ultimately settling in Salina, where she married the love of her life, Lynn Rein. Together, they cherished their large family, which included five daughters (Ann, Donna, Teresa, Angela and Mylissa) and three sons (Ronnie, Christopher and Anthony).

Mary enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at the Salina County Commission on Aging (Senior Citizen Center) until her retirement in 2010, when she chose to dedicate herself fully to caring for Lynn. Mary lived a life filled with tremendous devotion and service toward others. Her strength, nurturing spirit, and unwavering commitment to her family and community were hallmarks of her character. Mary’s greatest joy was her family, describing her children and grandchildren as the greatest blessings in her life. She also enriched the lives of those around her through her dedication to charity, her love and talent for crafting, and her passion for cooking. Mary was a consummate volunteer from Catechism teacher to Boy Scout Den Mother, always giving her time and energy to causes and individuals close to her heart.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary was also a loving daughter and a protective big sister to Kate, Helen, and Max. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lynn; her son, Ronnie; her parents, Harlan and Sarah; her sister, Helen; her daughter, Mylissa; and her grandson, Brett. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Ann (Feitel) and Jeff Harbot; Donna (Feitel) and Daryle Kirk; Christopher Feitel and Chong-Im Kim; Teresa (Feitel) and Tyrone Matthews; Angela Rein; and Anthony and Elizabeth Feitel. Her legacy lives on in her 16 grandchildren: Sarah, Matthew, Randy, Rebecca, Trenton, Travis, Tabitha, Clayton, Amanda, Samantha, Elizabeth, Katelan, Matt, Stephanie, Caden and Connor; and 21 great-grandchildren: Riley, Matthew Jr. (Alex), Anthony, Robert, Alex, Ashtyn, Braxtyn, Faylen, Silas, Leo, Max, Kaysen, Cameron, Talia, Harlan, Avery, Taryn, Zayden, Izyck, Beckett and Barrett.

Visitation will be held&nbsp;from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, where the family will receive friends. The funeral service will take place&nbsp;at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, also at the Chapel, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Mary blessed the lives of many. Even in her passing, she continued to give through her final act of devotion by selflessly donating her organs. Carmi Cullen (Jay or J-Solo) Williams, 49, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 24th, in Wichita.

Carmi was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 19, 1974. He was adopted by his parents Henry Williams and Margaret Dunson-Williams. From Ohio to Kansas, Carmi never allowed his light to be dimmed, his smile to be broken, or his heart to be defeated.

Carmi was deeply involved with the Ruff Ryders, where he was known as “J-Solo” and served as Vice President of the Central Kansas chapter. Outside of his work at Smokey Hills Construction, he had a passion for working on cars, spending time with friends, and riding his bikes. Carmi embraced life with love, joy, and laughter.

A dedicated member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Salina, Kansas, under the leadership of Rev. Allen D. Smith, Carmi was a steadfast supporter of faith with his family, friends, and community.

Carmi is survived by his son, J'Vaughn Flippin, of Fort Worth, Texas; and daughter, Ayrie Moxter, of Salina, Kansas.

Carmi is also survived by his siblings, Henry L. Williams Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Felicia Williams-Tucker of Dayton, Ohio, Derek Williams of Dayton, Ohio, and Shawnta Williams-Bridges (Bryon) of Dayton, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Dunson-Williams and Henry L. Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, September 6th, at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church in Salina, Kansas with Rev. Allen D. Smith officiating.

Carmi Cullen (Jay or J-Solo) Williams

Duane Edgar Thomas, 89, rural Delphos, died at his home on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was born September 6, 1934, in Ottawa County, to Reuben William and Avis Margaret (Cooper) Thomas. He attended country school and was a 1952 graduate of Delphos High School. Duane then attended mechanic school in Nebraska. 

On January 15, 1955, he and Alice Darlene Adams were united in marriage. He worked for Dick Handy Chevrolet in Minneapolis and later owned and operated his own repair business for 70 years. Duane was a longtime farmer and woodworker. His family was blessed each Christmas with one of his projects. Duane’s family meant the world to him, and he tried to attend all of their activities. 

As Darlene wrote, “He always has been a quiet gentleman with a heart of gold.” He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; son, Danny; and granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Porter.

 Survivors are his son, Reuben Thomas and wife, Amy; daughter, Debra Porter; daughter-in-law, Alyce Thomas; grandsons, Adam Thomas and wife, Lindsey and Jerry Porter, Jr. and wife, Rachel, and Stephanie Wiley and husband, Lashaune; great-grandchildren, Anastasia Moedor, Ryan Thomas, Addie Thomas, Casper Porter, and Tyanna Porter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, August 29, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 30 at the funeral home.

Myrna J. Kiser, 87, Delphos, died Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Minneapolis. Myrna was born December 28, 1936, in Hodgeman County, KS to Ralph and Mae (Cox) Brown.

Myrna and Grant Kiser, Jr. were married on March 8, 1959, and made their home in Delphos. She worked at a C.N.A. for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years; son, Doug Kiser; daughter, Lorri Scheibler; and six siblings.

Survivors are her daughter, Stephanie Willett and her husband, Steve; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Kiser; grandchildren, David (Lisa) and Brad Kiser, Rien (James Wood) and Rilee Scheibler, and Eric (Melissa) and Erin Willett; and 13 great-grandchildren.

James "Jim" William Becker, 83, passed away on August 25, 2024 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS.

On December 18th,1940 a son, James "Jim" Willam Becker was born to Earl and Estalla Becker of Minneapolis, Ks. Jim was the 7th child in the family of 6 sons &amp; 4 daughters. Jim attended Assaria, Ks. Grade school leaving after the 8th grade to work for farmers. Soon he was working in the construction field. He operated the heavy equipment, was a mechanic working for several companies in Salina. He retired from Busboom &amp; Rauh as shop Foreman.

In 1964, while driving up and down Santa Fe he met the love of his life, Rita. After many trips to Indiana &amp; lots of long distance phone calls, Rita returned to Salina and they were married Dec. 12,1964.To this union a son, Brian was born and 2 yrs later a daughter, Barbara, was born.

In the years of working for BJ Frick we traveled to El Paso, Texas to bring back a dump truck for the company. We also traveled to Colorado &amp; put cement barriers around ski lift towers. Who would of thought when we traveled to Pittsburg, Ks. to work on the college, that some day a granddaughter would graduate from that college.

Granddaughters soon joined the family followed by a grandson. All being the light of Jim’s life. When the great granddaughter was born, she filled his heart with so much love it ran over!!

Jim and Rita would have celebrated 60 yrs of marriage on Dec. 12th of this year. And they said back in 1964, the marriage would never last. Hà Ha.

The majority of Jim’s cooking skills was the lip-smacking year round homemade ice cream, never needing an excuse to whip up a batch. When Christmas he could be found stirring up a couple baches of smooth, mouthwatering fudge. If anyone knows Jim Becker, one batch would be peanut butter. Here’s hoping Jim doesn’t make all the angels to fat to fly!

Jim’s hobbies included The Assaria Saddle Club, tinkering with small engines or really anything with wheels. He was a founding member of Ks. Tractor Club and a member of the Fly Wheels of Salina.

You could find him in most parades on his 420 John Deere, or in a buggy pulled by a horse he trained to ride &amp; drive.

A man of many talents but more important a man loved by many.

Rest in peace loved one. You are missed &amp; you will always be loved &amp; never forgotten.

James "Jim" William Becker

Sandra Sue Tracy was born November 14, 1940 in Dallas, Texas the daughter of Samuel J. and Frances (Davis) Ulry. Sue passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Village Manor Nursing Home in Abilene.

Following her high school graduation, Sue attended Ohio State University. Sue lived in Ohio and California before settling in Abilene. On August 24, 1963 Sue was united in marriage to Edwin L. Tracy in Columbus, Ohio. He passed away September 12, 2009.

Sue was active in 4-H, Girl Scouts, Pee-Wee Football, and Hot Stove Baseball when her children were young. But her special love was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Tracy Ruehlen of Salina, Patty Reinarts and her husband Dan of Wooster, Ohio, Anna Tracy of Salina, sons Alex Tracy of Abilene, Mike Tracy of Lorain, Ohio, fifteen grandchildren and 20 Great grandchildren. Besides her husband Edwin, Sue was preceded in death by her brother Richard Ulry and her sister Barbara Howard.

Services for Sue will be 10:00 am Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Suphten Mills Cemetery near Chapman. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Survivors include his Loving Wife of 34 years, Janice Torres; &nbsp;Sister, Jenoveva Downey (Torres); Sister, Cecilia Morrison (Torres); Son, Ronald Torres of Leavenworth, Kansas; Son, Donald Torres of &nbsp;St. Elmo, Illinois; Daughter, Carmen Padron (Torres) of Emporia, Kansas; Daughter Yvonne Miranda (Torres) of Homestead, Florida; Son by marriage, Darreld Toothman of Newton, Kansas; &nbsp;Daughter by marriage Shelly McEnroe of North Port, Florida. Many nieces and nephews. He had fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Juan was born and raised in Salina, Kansas. &nbsp;He graduated from Salina Central High School in 1961. &nbsp;His first job was as a caddy at the Salina Country Club. A nickname given to him at the golf club was “Walkie-Talkie”. &nbsp;He was a truck driver most of his career.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marines Corp from 1961 to 1981. Juan was a hard worker, proud retired Marine and loving Husband, Father, Grand Father and Great Grand Father. He gave back to the community with hosting Mexican American Golf tournaments. He loved his neighbors as family. He was passionate about the game of golf. He enjoyed cooking for his family. His favorite thing to do was spoiling all the grandchildren. He always befriended those in need.

Juan Torres

Brandon L. Doherty, 37, of Salina, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on June 3, 1987, to James and Vicki (Small) Doherty.&nbsp; Brandon was an all around athlete, he grew up playing football and baseball.&nbsp; He also enjoyed playing racquetball, and loved fishing and hunting.&nbsp; He was a hard working craftsman who critiqued every little detail.&nbsp; His greatest passion was being a father to his children.

Survivors include his father, James Doherty; mother, Vicki Ryan; stepfather, Kent Whitehair, all of Salina; son, Finley; stepchildren, Alec, Quincy, and Wylder; brothers, Kirklan Pauli (Ali), of Osage City, Ryan Doherty (Nicole), of Clifton, and Dillion Whitehair (Haley), of Hope; grandmother, Janee Doherty; and many aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim Doherty, Guy and Sandra Small.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp;

Doherty, 37, of Salina, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on June 3, 1987, to James and Vicki (Small) Doherty.&nbsp; Brandon was an all around athlete, he grew up playing football and baseball.&nbsp; He also enjoyed playing racquetball, and loved fishing and hunting.&nbsp; He was a hard working craftsman who critiqued every little detail.&nbsp; His greatest passion was being a father to his children.Survivors include his father, James Doherty; mother, Vicki Ryan; stepfather, Kent Whitehair, all of Salina; son, Finley; stepchildren, Alec, Quincy, and Wylder; brothers, Kirklan Pauli (Ali), of Osage City, Ryan Doherty (Nicole), of Clifton, and Dillion Whitehair (Haley), of Hope; grandmother, Janee Doherty; and many aunts and uncles.He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim Doherty, Guy and Sandra Small.Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp;

Dori Whiteley, 63, passed away Monday August 19th, 2024. She was born in Salina, Kansas to Bruce and Nancy Whiteley.

Dori graduated Kansas Weslyn University with a bachelor’s degree, major in English and minor in communications. She lived most of her life in Salina with a couple of those years in Wichita, Kansas.

Dori worked most of her career at Tony’s Pizza Service in Product Development as an administrative secretary. She also had the pleasure of working at one of the leading radio stations in town as a copy writer and even had the opportunity to speak on commercials. She was able to use her creative thinking skills working at the Type Setter in Wichita, Kansas.

Dori loved her family and friends and enjoyed family gatherings.

Survivors include parents, Nancy and Bruce Whiteley, sister and brother-in-law, Stacy and Arnold Croomes, Two nieces, Nickole Croomes, Danielle Jones and husband Tanner Jones. Three great nieces and one on the way, Chantelle Jones, Leyah Jones, Ruby Jones and baby girl Jones due in December.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11 a.m., both at New Community Christian Church, 530 E Cloud St, Salina, on Friday, August 30, 2024.

Dori will be laid to rest at Abilene Cemetery along side of her grandmother Maxine Rider, who she dearly loved.

Memorials in her honor go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Gilbert Dean Altman, 69, of Salina, passed away at home, Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was born in Salina, KS, to Max and Grace (Werries) Altman on January 20, 1955.

Gilbert and his two sisters grew up in Tescott, KS.

Gilbert Altman and Nancy O’Neill were united in marriage on October 5, 1974.

After Gilbert graduated from Tescott high school in 1973, he worked for his Uncle Leonard and Dad Max, at Altman Construction and then in the 1980’s, after Leonard’s death, Max and Gilbert purchased Altman Construction, where Gilbert worked for 50 years, retiring in 2022.

Gilbert loved the fourth of July, going with the grandkids to purchase fireworks and setting them off. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap, and skeet shooting. He spent many years shooting and fostered many wonderful friendships. Gilbert was an avid Jayhawk and Royal’s fan.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Sam Mynhier.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, of the home, two daughters Jennifer (Chad) Bruhl of Niles, and Sara (Adam) Daleiden of Salina, his sister, Joleen (Dave) Whitfill of Topeka, niece Lori Adam, nephew Brett Whitfill, and niece Jessica Whitfill. Gilbert is also survived by his four grandchildren: Madison Schafer, Mya Schafer, Dylan Schafer, and Grant Herman.

Visitation is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth Street, with family in attendance from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 29, at Ryan Mortuary, with a private inurnment at a later date.

Gilbert Altman

Jerry Ray Praytor, 74, of Russell,&nbsp;Kansas, died on&nbsp;Saturday,August 17, 2024, in Newton, Kansas, with his family at his side. &nbsp;

Jerry was born on November&nbsp;11, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Doil M. and Loretta E. (Lindell) Praytor. &nbsp;He grew up in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1967. &nbsp;Jerry&nbsp;attended Hutchinson Community College and Pittsburg State University&nbsp;before being drafted into the United States Army. While&nbsp;he was stationed&nbsp;in Aberdeen, Maryland, he met&nbsp;Donna June&nbsp;Harvey. &nbsp;They&nbsp;fell in love and&nbsp;were&nbsp;united in marriage&nbsp;on July 30, 1971. After serving 8 years in the military, he returned to Russell to work&nbsp;for his dad’s pipeline business, Praytor Construction. &nbsp;He and his brother continued with the family business for many years. &nbsp;After relocating to Inman, Jerry started a new venture, JP&nbsp;Pipeline&nbsp;Construction, Inc. &nbsp;He was a longtime member of the V.F.W. Post #6240 and American Legion Post #99 both in Russell. &nbsp;He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and&nbsp;the countless hours&nbsp;spent at&nbsp;roping events with his boys. &nbsp;Jerry&nbsp;loved nothing more than to&nbsp;“clown around”&nbsp;with his grandkids.

Surviving family include his wife Donna June Harvey Praytor of Hutchinson, Kansas; sons Jeremy Praytor and wife Sara of Salina, Kansas,&nbsp;and Jason Praytor of Wichita, Kansas; brother Gary Praytor of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Britton Praytor&nbsp;and&nbsp;Addison Praytor; great-grandson&nbsp;Riggins Collett. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents&nbsp;and infant brother.

James (Jim) Edward Grennan, Fort Collins, Colorado passed away August 14, 2024, after

a long illness. He was born February 21, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas to John and Maxyne (Townsdin) Grennan. Jim grew up in Jamestown, Kansas and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1968. He later graduated from Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas and then Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education. He lived in Colorado for most of his adult life. He farmed and custom cut wheat from Texas

to Montana and later owned a roofing company.In 2021, Jim authored and published a book, ‘Raising Up Boys in Kansas’. He was always trying to help others. He took numerous trips to St. Bonaventure Indian Mission in New Mexico with food and clothing. He was an avid treasure hunter and always had his metal detector just in case. He loved to play pool as well as chess. Jim was a very devout Catholic. When it became very painful to walk, he continued to faithfully attend Mass even during the week. He loved his family and enjoyed his great-grandchildren immensely. Jim is survived by his loving son Patrick (Bri) and her son Kallias, Loveland, Col- orado, granddaughter Sahara (Jorge) Pastrana, Johnstown, Colorado, grandson Austin (Kaitlyn) Grennan, Johnstown, Colorado and great- grandchildren Amora Pastrana, Alina Pastrana, Adin Grennan and Amelia Grennan. He is also survived by his siblings F. Robert A. Goben, 62, of Solomon, passed away Friday August 16, 2024.&nbsp; He was born to John and Helen (Reno) Goben.

He graduated in 1980 from Salina South High School and went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad on May 31, 1981.&nbsp; He retired from the railroad on June 1, 2022 after 41 years of service as a trackman.

Robert was a sports fanatic.&nbsp; He enjoyed all sports talk shows and watching any sport college or pro. &nbsp;

He was a member of the Salina Blue Lodge #60 and the Valley of Salina Scottish Rite. &nbsp;

Robert married Glenda (Milleson) in 1988.&nbsp; He had no biological children but gained three stepdaughters when he married Glenda. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen; two brothers, William Goben, Micheal Spears; and sister, Nancy Crenshaw.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Glenda; sisters, Margi Berendzen (Larry) of Burien, WA, Margaret Henderson of Bermuda Dunes, CA; brothers, John Goben (Kathy) of Walla Walla, WA, Doug Goben (Jenny) of Cedar Hill, MO; stepdaughters, Amy Rose (Shannon) of Denver, Nicole Dickerman of Glasgow, MO, Brandy Sargent of Salina; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Brendon, Cody, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Triston, Dolcey, Daisey, Dolton; 11 great-grandchildren, Coralyn, Calli, Scarlett, Connor, McKenna, Aubrey, Hadley, Amaira, Archie, Ez, Amiyah; and his lifelong friend since the 4th grade, Richard Simmons (Linda).

Wanda Marie Budke, 67, of Lindsborg, passed away Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 in Salina surrounded by her loved ones. Wanda was born in Hays, on October 11, 1956, a daughter of the late Virgil and Esther (Dechant) Stegman.

On November 6, 1976, Wanda was united in marriage to John Budke at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

She worked for 27 years as a custodian for USD 305. Wanda loved the students and staff.

Her hobbies were painting little figurines, drawing, and sewing. Wanda's biggest passion was shopping and had a way of buying the perfect gift.

She was most proud of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered by her warm smile, loving heart, and her beautiful brown eyes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Verlin and Steven Stegman.

Survivors include her husband, John Budke; two daughters, Trena Carlson (Heath), Tammy Livengood (Jon); grandchildren, Tarin, Hadin, Elias, Alina, Leland, Axel; siblings, Zandra Rotrock (Chester), Brenda Nitsch (Danny) and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 26th at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas 67401, with Fr. John Schmeidler, as officiant. Rosary will begin at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt Calvary Cemetery.

Violet Junk, 82, Osborne, Kansas passed away Thursday, August 22 at Parkview Care Center.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Violet was born June 13th, 1942 at her home near Bloomington, KS.&nbsp; She was the youngest child of Margueritte Mary (Roenne) Roadhouse and Charles Roadhouse.&nbsp; Violet attended Bloomington Grade School and graduated from Osborne High School with the class of 1960.

On November 25, 1961 Violet married Fred Junk in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Osborne.&nbsp; Violet and Fred were blessed with three children, Mark, Kara and Darrin.&nbsp; They lived on farms in the Corinth and Osborne area before moving to Osborne in 1977.

Violet received a gold bell for her many years of work in the Osborne school district. Violet had a love for reading and she enjoyed planting and working in her garden.&nbsp; She was blessed being a grandma to Caden and Seth Junk, Lily and Sophia Bond and Derrick Junk and being a great grandma to Hayes Junk.

Violet is survived by her children Mark Junk and wife Eva of Hays, KS, Kara Bond of Olathe, KS and Darrin Junk and wife Trish of Wichita, KS.&nbsp; Her Sister Phyllis Arnold of Alton, KS.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, brothers Charles Roadhouse and Marion Roadhouse.

There will be a visitation held&nbsp;on Sunday August 25, 2024 from 5PM until 7PM&nbsp;at the Rentschler Family Mortuaries in Osborne, KS.&nbsp; There will be a rosary recited&nbsp;at 6:00PM

Mass of Christian Burial will be held&nbsp;on Monday August 26, 2024&nbsp;at the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Church&nbsp;at 10:30AM.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the USD 392 Cafeteria and can be sent in care of the mortuary.

Violet Junk

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Preceding him in death were his parents, Alvin Baumfalk, Hannah and Harry Hein; brothers, Kenneth Baumfalk, Gerald Hein and Robert Hein; daughter, Lori Hoff; grandson, Jordan Baumfalk and special niece, Jackie Baumfalk.

James G. Srna, 66, Minneapolis, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Salina Regional Health Center. Jim was born October 17, 1957, in Beloit to Andrew and Hazel (Collins) Srna.&nbsp;

Jim was a 1975 graduate of Minneapolis High School, and he then attended and graduated with Vo-Tech training. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for several years before his health required him to retire.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.

Survivors are his children, James and his wife, April and Amber Garcia; three grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, and Emberly; and numerous family members; and good friends.

It was Jim’s wishes to be cremated and memorial services for the family will be held at a later date.

Barbara Jean Swearingen, 95, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 16th, 2024.

Barbara was born in Scandia, Kansas on November 15, 1928, a daughter of Lois May (Johnson) and Glenn Myron Housholder.

Barb graduated from Scandia High School in 1946.

She was a homemaker, (in the words of Barb) professional goof off, and helped her sons as a bookkeeper in their grain elevator business.
