DeLyn M. Farr, 87 of Abilene passed away November 27, 2025. She was born April 28, 1938 in La Crosse, Kansas the daughter of William Starr and Evelyn Scheuerman. 

She served as a dedicated school secretary, where her tough love and kindness along with her positive spirit made a lasting impact on thousands of students, staff, and the entire school community during her 37 years of service. DeLyn is survived by her children: Stoney Farr (Debbie); Mark Farr (Kathy); Kari Butler (Gene) and Dori Farr. Seven grandchildren: Megan Kissel; Jessica Pyle; Dakota Hoekman; Mollie Rohrbaugh; Shay Post; Alyssa Farr and Parker Farr. Ten great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Darlene Starr. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Charlie Hines and brother, William “Bill: Starr Jr. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at New Trail Fellowship Church. 

Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-7 P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given to the Delyn Farr Scholarship Fund to be used for students going into nursing.

DeLyn M. Farr

Edwin D. Benfer, 78 of Miltonvale, Kansas died on Wednesday, November 25, 2025 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Edwin was born July 14, 1947 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of John D. and Letha (Plock) Benfer. He grew up in Longford, Kansas and graduated from Longford High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After he returned from his military service, Ed farmed in the Miltonvale, Kansas area. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah and husband, Josh Clayton of Downingtown, PA; 2 grandchildren, Savannah and Josie Clayton; sisters, Phyllis and husband Lyle Berges of St. George, KS and Joyce and husband Gene Oliver of Round Rock, TX; brothers, Philip and wife Carol Benfer, Dwight and wife Pam Benfer and Kevin and wife Karen Benfer all of Longford, KS.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 1:30PM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Monday December1, 2025 from 12:30PM until service time at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Swartwood Cemetery in rural Longford, Kansas.

Dale Wayne Taylor was born July 19, 1959 in Horton, Kansas to Clyde Robert and Dorothy Alvina Taylor. He left this life on November 24, 2025, at the age of 66 years old.

Dale loved the outdoors, he loved to fish and hunt. Dale wasn’t one to conform, he wanted thing on his terms. He quit school at the age of 17 to enter the working world in Junction City, living with family and friends while working for Mid America Movers and other moving companies. He met his first wife, Sue, and shortly after they moved to Florida to learn carpentry with Environmental Homes, a family-owned company. A few years later, he moved back to Chapman, Kansas. He struggled with his vices, got divorced and found his way back to Florida. It was then that he met his wife, Colleen, who survives him. After several years he began driving trucks, moving to Provo, Utah, until coming back to Kansas in 2004, where he lived until the end of his life.

Dale truly missed Kansas. He was aided by his brother buying property and was able to build a home in the country North of Chapman, Kansas next to Milford Lake, a place he loved. He fulfilled his dream of having a home in the country and was joined by other family members: his dad and step mother, who proceeded him in death; his sister, Laronda Smith, and her husband Vance; his brother Val and wife Becky. Dale is also survived by his sister, Stacy Campbell, and his step brother, Mike Post. His oldest sister, Clydene Rauch, also preceded him in death. Others left to honor the memory of Dale are his nephews and nieces, their children and many cousins, and we cannot forget his beloved pups, Jesse and Buddy, whom he dearly loved.

Dale loved to fish and hunt, the family would like to think of him off doing what he lived to do, catching big fish and chasing deer.

Isaiah 40:31 says,” But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Bernice L. Whispell, 96, of Salina, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025.&nbsp; She was born in Oneonta, New York, on May 1, 1929 to William and Beatrice (Kelly) Reihl.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughter, Shannon Utley (Joseph), of Salina; grandchildren, Charity Palmer and Shanya Rifenburg; great-grandchildren, Chantea, Quinleslie, Breanna, Karon, Alisha, Ozzie, and Lemy; sisters, Kathryn Drawdy and Swanna Jean Loomis; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Gerald Bush and Daniel Whispell; and her siblings.

Cremation was chosen and no services are planned at this time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jean E. Campbell, 93, of Ellsworth, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

Born on October 24, 1932, in Ellsworth, Jean was the daughter of Eleanor (Herzig) Rathburn and William Dale Trump, Sr. Jean devoted herself to her family and home. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—especially her love of golf—and shared her enthusiasm for wellness by teaching racquetball at a local health club.

Jean is survived by her children: daughters Terri Campbell and Nancy L. Campbell, and son, John Campbell, all of Ellsworth. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hector Campbell; her parents; and her brother, Bill Trump Jr.In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Jean E. Campbell

Gerold Dean Jilka, 79 of Mission, passed away November 25, 2025, in Salina Kansas. He was born December 12, 1946, in Leavenworth Kansas, to Edward Jr. and Celestial Elisabeth (West) Jilka.

Gerold graduated from Salina High in 1964. After high school he attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1968. Gerold joined the Air Force after graduation, serving in Vietnam and received a purple heart. After four years of service Gerold left the Air Force.

Gerold Dean Jilka served 30 years as an Air Traffic Controller for Kansas City International and Omaha International airports. In retirement, he spent time between his two homes; Mission Kansas and Scottsdale Arizona during the cold Kansas winters as this allowed him to golf year-round. Gerold’s love for golf and consistent play earned him a lifetime 8 handicap. Though Scottsdale provided abundant sun and warmth, his heart was always in Kansas City where he could watch and cheer for his beloved Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.

Preceded in death by Edward Jilka Jr., Celestial E. Jilka, Kimberly Ann Peterson

Survivors: Edward R. Jilka, Ann Jilka, Bryan Jilka, Carol Wedel, Riley Jilka, Chase Jilka, Hannah &amp; Tyler Fowler.

Wayne Earl Watts, 78, of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.Wayne was born on October 15, 1947, in Ada, Oklahoma, the son of Evelyn (Moore) and Earl Watts. He grew up in Konawa,Oklahoma and graduated from Konawa High School and East Central State College in 1968.

Following graduation, Wayne worked alongside his father at Watts Funeral Home before moving to Liberal, Kansas, in 1970. He later joined Citizens State Bank in Liberal before settling in Minneapolis, Kansas. Wayne spent many years employed with Schwan’s in Salina until his retirement, remaining in Minneapolis for the rest of his life.

A man of humor and kindness, Wayne was known for his love of old movies, classic rock and roll, and the joy he found in playing his guitars. He cherished friendships and was a loyal companion to many throughout his life.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Allison Watts (Zach Taylor) of Portland, Oregon; his sister, Loretta Winkler (Luther) of Liberal, Kansas; his brother, Drew Watts (Tami) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his dear friend, Sarah Everitt of Salina, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Aaron Watts; and his sisters, Bobbie Hillhouse and Earlene Whitaker.

Cremation has been chosen, and no services are planned.

Gail Lee, 72, passed away November 21st at home. Gail was born January 8, 1953 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Ray Lee and Faye (McConnell) Bradley.

Gail started working at Rural Electric Company in Bird City, Kansas, as a lineman after graduating high school.

They moved to Osborne in 1987 when Gail went to work for Jewell-Mitchell/Rolling Hills Electric Company. He worked as a lineman for 43 years.

He married Sherri (Hicks) Lee on July 4th 1986. They had 4 sons, Wayne, Wade, Wylie and Wyatt.

Gail was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved to go camping with family and friends.

Gail is survived by his wife Sherri, sons Wayne and Wyatt. Siblings Gena, Bill (Marjorie), Bob (Nina), Jody (Deron). Grandchildren Jacob (Elizabeth), Olivia, Maison and Ryker. Several cousins, nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Wade and Wylie and brother Garold.

After 98 years of living larger than life, Marilyn Pfeiffer Hake died Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn was born on September 17, 1927 to John Ira and Mary (Jacobs) Pfeiffer in Tipton, Kansas. She was the youngest of three children and attended St. Boniface Grade School, graduating from Tipton High School in 1945. Marilyn studied art at Marymount College in Salina. Afterwards, a summer working at the Oregon Journal led to a lifelong love of the Pacific Northwest. For all of her life, a guaranteed way to get her to light up was to mention the word “Oregon” to her.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Former classmate Clarence “Pappy” Hake asked her, “Will you marry up with me?” and they were joined in marriage on September 4, 1950 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. They had seven children and celebrated 71 years of marriage before Pappy’s death in 2021.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Whether known as Marilyn, “Mert,” “Momma,” or “Grams,” those who knew her were sure to know her quick wit, her stylistic flair, and her unwavering sense of self. Hard times were met with resilience and reliance on her strong faith. Through every chapter of her life, she stepped more into who she was, with her creativity continually on display.

&nbsp; &nbsp;During her years raising children, she channeled her grit and energy toward finessing the art of homemaking. Whether making sunshine meatloaf, sewing into the late hours, or adding decorative touches to the home Pappy built for them east of Tipton, her keen eye would add flair to the everyday. Marilyn could spot rusted car headlights in a junk pile, send Pappy to retrieve them, tuck in stalks of milo, and transform them into new wall sconces for the dining room.

&nbsp; &nbsp;For her next chapter, Marilyn returned to the art training she received at Marymount. In the early 1980s, she dove into pencil art, drawing “The Old Homestead,” “Ladies with Purses,” “Men at the Auction” and many other heartland scenes inspired by the rural life around her. Showing at art fairs and festivals opened a new world. It fed her love of travel, introduced her to countless new faces, and earned her multiple People’s Choice awards. True to her nature, she never met a stranger. From the Winfield Bluegrass Festival to small-town art shows across the Midwest, Marilyn carried her art with her, and it carried her into the wider world.

&nbsp; &nbsp;In 1999, they opened up their home as Blue Hills Lodge, welcoming pheasant hunters from all over to enjoy the land and small-town life that they loved. After a long day in the field, the hunters could return to Blue Hills to find Pappy stirring the fire and Marilyn trailing after her daughters as they cleaned, checking bed corners, dusting a forgotten nook, and sprucing up every inch, reminding them, “it’s my house.” When the chores were done, they would gather by the bonfire with the hunters, swapping stories and laughter on the homestead they built.

&nbsp; &nbsp;In her final chapter at Resident Care Center in Beloit, Marilyn’s quips and quick wit carried her through. She had a gift for making people laugh - sometimes by landing the perfect line at the perfect moment, and other times by blurting out the perfectly wrong thing. Either way, both would add a story for the highlight reel. Whether it was her oft-repeated “Merlot, merloss, merlont,” or saying with a twinkle in her eye, “If you can’t be good, be careful,” she kept everyone on their toes.

&nbsp; &nbsp;As her life comes to an end, we carry on Marilyn’s legacy - whether it’s dancing in the kitchen to Ray Charles, attempting her syncopated knife-tapping routine, or laughing at one of her witticisms, she leaves behind a family that will forever treasure her spirit. Marilyn asked us to put “I told you I was sick” on her headstone, but instead we’ll put it here. And we’ll say goodbye in her preferred way: see you in the funnies! We love you!

Jonathan Paul Picking&nbsp;Jon was born in Abilene KS, May 8th, 1967 and died at SRHC Salina KS&nbsp; November 22nd, 2025, after a long battle with renal failure.

Jon was the glue that held us together. He had the answer to&nbsp;all our questions. He was a man of all things. He could do anything.Always trying, always figuring things out.

He loved wholeheartedly. He was strong, kind, funny, and fun to be around.

He is survived by his mother Sharon Picking, brothers Matthew Picking and Robert Pickingsisters Kelly Goth and husband Troy, Brandy Starr and husband Tim, Stacey Viers.

Significant other Paula Twist, daughter Amanda Picking, son Johnny Picking, grandchildren Kyra, Dylan, Logan, Ian, Gracie, Joe, nephews Joseph Picking,&nbsp;Jackson Goth and fiance Natasha Allen, nieces Kamber Musgrove, Katie and husband Cam HarrodHis extended family and friends. And of course every one of his fur babies.

Daniel Paul Morabito of Abilene, Kansas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 6, 2025.

Daniel was born in Binghamton, New York to Thelma Clark Morabito and James Vincent Morabito.

After graduating high school at Anderson Valley High School in Boonville, California, Dan attended Napa Valley College where he played football. Dan was an avid sportsman breaking records in High School and College, earning All-American.

Dan later joined the Police force, then Emergency Medical Services (EMS), as well as worked as a surgical technician. Dan moved to Kansas and excelled in Emergency Medical Services becoming Director of EMS in several Kansas counties, developing state protocols,&nbsp; and putting together numerous Ambulance services across Kansas.

Dan received the Norman E. McSwain MS Service Award for his achievements in emergency medical services as well as Governor’s awards for his accomplishments within EMS.

Dan owned and operated a number of his own businesses during his time while still active in EMS. After retiring from EMS he and his wife own and operate a Salon and Day Spa.

When Dan wasn’t working, which wasn’t often, you could find him on the open road riding his motorcycle, doing construction, tending to farm animals or out in his shop tinkering. Dan was always involved in his community, being a Boy Scout Leader, volunteering, active in his Church, or helping a neighbor, Dan cherished the friendships he made along the way.

Dan leaves behind a legacy not only in his commitment to EMS and saving many lives, but also in the lives of the people that were blessed enough to call him a friend.&nbsp; Dan built his little farm, his oasis away from chaos, his happy place. His fingerprints are on every board, every fence, every gate, every tool, a lasting reminder of a man who worked hard and trusted in his faith.

Left to mourn his passing are his Wife, Tisha Comer Morabito; Son: Sequoyah Morabito; Daughters: Shauna Morabito Boyd, Mindee Morabito Reynolds and Brooke Morabito; 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild;

Verona Jean (Collette) Perret, age 96, of Concordia, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS. She was born on April 20,1929 at the St. Joseph Hospital to Albert &amp; Jardine (Courville) Collette.

Verona attended catholic schools in Concordia and graduated in 1947.&nbsp;&nbsp;She then attended Marymount School of Nursing and received her diploma to become a registered nurse in 1950.

Verona’s nursing career began in the nursery of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;She spent most of her years working for the Cloud County Health Department.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked in multiple roles with the health department, such as school nurse, home health nurse, giving immunizations and whatever role they needed her to do for the community.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verona served her patients with kindness and compassion and received several achievement awards throughout the years.

Verona led a very active life filled with family, church, friends, volunteering for numerous organizations and serving others whenever she could.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verona was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary (her uniform is proudly displayed at the Cloud County Historical Museum).

But Verona’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a proud caretaker of her family and had a gift of serving others.&nbsp;&nbsp;She never refused to babysit whenever anyone asked and was always available when she was needed to take over and be a provider.

She is survived by her two sons, Tom (Judy) Perret, Concordia &amp; Steven (Artis) Perret, Wellsville; grandchildren, Stefanie Perret, Stacy Johnson, Travis Perret, Trisha Simms &amp; Raymond Perret &amp; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Joyce (Pat) Lambert, Clyde; Sister-in-Law, Rita Collette and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gilbert, her husband of 63 years, preceded her in 2013, she is also preceded by her daughter, Susan L. Perret; parents Albert &amp; Jardine (Courville) Collette; sister, Rita Lutz &amp; brothers, Lee &amp; Joseph Collette.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Father Joseph Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow the services at St. Concordia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm with a Rosary at 6:00 pm, Friday, November 28, 2025, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

Verona Jean (Collette) Perret

Earl Deines was born in Abilene, Kansas September 17,1947 and passed away November 21,2025 in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up on the family farm and attended Chapman schools.&nbsp; He graduated with the class of 1965 from Dickinson County Community High School.

Earl helped his folks on the family farm and worked for Bob Hollinger in High School. After graduation he served in the Army Reserves. &nbsp;Earl attended Brown Mackie where he met Kay Rust.&nbsp; They were married and had two children Amy Williams and Kevin Deines. After they divorced Earl met and married Betty Eis and they had two children Nathan Deines and Erin McComas.&nbsp;

Earl is survived by his wife of 49 years Betty Deines and his four children as well as 5 grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Lorinda Battishill of Chapman and Donita Sellin of Wichita.

Preceding Earl in death were his brother Rodney Deines and his parents Lester and Vera Deines.

Earl helped his folks on the farm from an early age and worked odd jobs to supplement the farm but farming was his calling.&nbsp; He was a member of Hi Y, FFA and Young Farmers.&nbsp; He was a member of Scherer Memorial Lutheran Church.

He grew up on the family farm and attended Chapman schools.&nbsp; He graduated with the class of 1965 from Dickinson County Community High School.Earl helped his folks on the family farm and worked for Bob Hollinger in High School. After graduation he served in the Army Reserves. &nbsp;Earl attended Brown Mackie where he met Kay Rust.&nbsp; They were married and had two children Amy Williams and Kevin Deines. After they divorced Earl met and married Betty Eis and they had two children Nathan Deines and Erin McComas.&nbsp;Earl is survived by his wife of 49 years Betty Deines and his four children as well as 5 grandchildren. Earl Deines 

David Warren Bernard VanWagner was released from this mortal life on Thursday, November 20th, 2025.

He leaves behind his wife, Kimberly and daughter Kara both of Salina, daughters Chelsea Armbrister (grandsons Ayden and Noah and granddaughter Alice), Christa Armbrister (grandsons Braeden and Jaxson) all of McPherson, as well as sister Karen of New York, brother Chap and sister Penny, both of South Carolina.

David was born in Hawaii but grew up in New York where he discovered a love for cooking. After turning 18 at Woodstock, he then traveled across country meeting various people and discovering life in so many places. A true 70s free spirit, finally settling in Kansas.

His love of music, football and dry humor that could make everyone laugh was special but he loved being home with his family and pups the most. Most people knew him in Salina through his long walks around the neighborhood. He knew every dogs name they came upon.

He loved telling stories of his adventurous past to anyone willing to listen. He will be so missed by his family. He spent much of his life battling many medical conditions concluding with Dementia.

David would be honored if all memorials be made to the family to help with expenses.

A Celebration of Life for David will be held at the American Legion in Lindsborg, Kansas on

Friday, November 28 between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.&nbsp; Dress in your favorite hippy style! Food will be provided.

She enjoyed music from Bob Seger and Loverboy, and her favorite TV shows were Yellowstone and American Idol. A pool shark at heart, Melissa was an amazing player who could dominate any table with skill and confidence.

Melissa cherished her family deeply. She is survived by her mother, Karen Nichols; her children, Jason and Andrew; and her beloved grandchildren, Ava, Brayleigh, and Loretta.

Her favorite toast summed up her spirit:“Here’s to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one. A pretty girl and an honest one. A cold beer and another one!”

Ladonna Mae Westbrook, 69, of Newton, KS and formerly of Canton, KS, entered into eternal rest at 1:08 AM on November 21, 2025, at Paramount Community Living and Rehab.

Ladonna was born to Harold and Luella (Gerken) Schlicht on December 12, 1955, and filled the role of baby of the family well.&nbsp; She had been a lifetime resident of the Canton area until a fall in June 2024 that resulted in a badly broken ankle which required more care for her day to day living.

Growing up, she had attended Spring Valley country school in rural Canton and later was part of the first graduating class of the merged Canton-Galva High School in May 1973.&nbsp; It was at the high school that she met the love of her life, Don Westbrook.&nbsp; They just celebrated 52 years of marriage.&nbsp; Don had just passed away on September 14, and that led to a significant decline in her health.&nbsp;

On March 9, 1973, Ladonna and Don were united in marriage at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Canton.&nbsp; She had been a lifelong member there having been baptized and confirmed in her faith.&nbsp; Their union was blessed with three children, Heather Dawn, Johanna Mae, and Dale Ray.

As an adult, she held many jobs.&nbsp; Some of those were bank teller, nursing home and school cook, hotel management, school photographer, paraprofessional, and exchange student placement coordinator. She also spent many years working for Kmart Corporation where she served many roles. Ladonna volunteered for 20 years with Canton EMS.

Ladonna loved her children and grandchildren very much.&nbsp; The love didn’t stop there though.&nbsp; She had many nieces, nephews, and friends that were all welcomed with open arms.&nbsp; She held a great love of crafting, gifting, and cooking for the multitudes even when she didn’t feel like doing so.&nbsp; Her family meant the world to her.

Ladonna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; and her brother &amp; sister-in-law, Richard &amp; Nancy Schlicht.

Survivors include her children, Heather (John) McCage of Grand Prairie, TX, Johanna Dawes of McPherson, KS, and Dale (Amber) Westbrook of McPherson, KS; a brother, Ron Schlicht of Osage Beach, MO; and a sister, Sharleen (Dick) Hamilton of Cedar Edge, CO.&nbsp; She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Thayne, Jacob (Kelsie), and Jalen McCage, Logan, Jaiden, and Kinsey Dawes, and Aiden Moore, Addy, Aimel, and Alaric Westbrook; two great-grandsons, John and Jordan Fuller; and a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton, with Pastor Troy Slater officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the church cemetery.&nbsp; A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM, Saturday, November 29, at the church.

Virginia Lou (Davis) Taylor died November 20, 2025, in Abilene, Kansas, having reached the age of 92. She was born March 11, 1933 on a farm to Willard Lee and Mayme Isabelle (Schulz) Davis. Along with her loving siblings (who affectionately called her ‘Susie’), Virginia grew up four miles south of Sand Springs and was a farm girl at heart. She attended the Pearl and Independence County Schools, Abilene Junior High, and graduated from Abilene High School with the Class of 1951. She was a member of several 4-H clubs in her youth. She married Gerald ‘Jerry’ Bernard Taylor on March 30, 1952, in Abilene, where they spent most of their lives. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and UMW Circle and loved to contribute items for their annual bazaar. Virginia was a homemaker and a Certified Nurse’s Aid from 1967 – 1998, always working the night shift at Abilene Memorial Hospital. For several years, following her official retirement, she continued to care for elderly friends and neighbors who wanted to stay in their homes for their final years. She truly lived her belief in the sanctity of life.

As her boys grew up, she volunteered as a Den Mother for Troop #40 Boy Scouts of America, and helped with the Girl Scouts as well. An excellent seamstress, she created beautiful clothes and costumes for her daughters (and their dolls.) Never wasting any time, she taught herself how to crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, and quilt making. She was an avid reader of books of all genres. She loved caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and with her grandchildren’s help, became an accomplished Nintendo 64 player. Her kindness and humble spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Virginia was preceded in death by three of her siblings and their spouses; Wilma Nicholson (Sherman), Raymond Davis (Goldie), and George Davis (Alberta); and her sister-in-law, Mavis Davis. Her loving husband of 68 years, Gerald B. ‘Jerry’ Taylor died in February of 2021. She is survived by her sons, Scott L. Taylor (Roberta) of Topeka, Randall L. Taylor, and Garry R. Taylor of Abilene, and daughters, Nancy K. Goracke (Kim) of Manhattan, Janet L. Griggs (Randy) of Salina, and Sue A. Hern, also of Salina, her brother, Willard Lee David Davis II, of Abilene, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

He proudly served in the United States Navy, then the Army Reserves, and later earned his doctorate from Missouri University.

Throughout his career, Ted held leadership roles as Vice President of Operations for several prominent retirement housing companies. He also dedicated time to working at St. Francis Boys Home, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and care.

Ted is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters Kimberly Cranston (Dave Blank) of Holdrege, Nebraska, and Serena Helvey of Salina, Kansas; and son Christopher Nickell (Laura) of Salina, Kansas. He leaves behind eight grandchildren—Danielle, Aaron (Sharalyn), Dylan (Brooke), Makenzie (Grant), Cade (Rhianna), Jackson (Alycia), Easton, and Aidan—and eight great-grandchildren: Greg, Dezmyn, Landin, Brenna, Addie, Bode, Axton, and Sunny.

He is also survived by two sisters, Judy Wilson (Ron) of Columbia, Missouri, and Cherie Phillips of Great Bend, Kansas.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Rodney Nickell; and his son-in-law, David Helvey.

Ted Allen Nickell

Norman George Anschutz, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Via Christi Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Norman was born on October 15, 1939, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Louis and Vivian (Thielen) Anschutz. He grew up in Dorrance, Kansas, and graduated from Dorrance High School in the class of 1958. He attended Kansas State University, graduating with an Architecture degree in 1963, and spending most of his early professional career with Shaver &amp; Company in Salina, Kansas. During a temporary project assignment in California, he met and fell in love with Barbara Jean Dito. The couple was united in marriage on May 31, 1969, in San Francisco, California. Norman and Barbara began their new life together in San Jose, California and were blessed with two children: Cheryl and Michael. In 1976, the family moved back to Kansas, making their home in Russell. Norman worked part-time as an architect while maintaining the family farm he had dearly missed while in California. Though having moved away, Norman ensured the family traveled back to San Francisco frequently to stay connected to Barbara’s Italian family, while enjoying the amazing food and taking in all the sights and traditions. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. Norman was a dedicated member of the Russell COOP coffee group where he enjoyed spending his morning visiting with friends. Norm and Barb loved traveling to Colorado, and other scenic locations as he loved the outdoors. A tender heart for animals, Norman found great joy caring for the farm cats and the many dogs in his life over the years. He was also an avid collector of scale model John Deere equipment and Model T Cars, and a lifelong history buff. After discovering the wonders of the iPad, he would spend countless hours learning everything he could about history and listening to his beloved music. Most of all, Norman enjoyed spending time working the family farm with his son, and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving family include wife of 56 years, Barbara Anschutz of the home, daughter, Cheryl T. Brock (Travis) of Wichita, Kansas and son Michael N. Anschutz (Mendi) of Hays, Kansas; sisters Ellen Spaulding (Mark) of Andover, Kansas and Eileen Keenan (Dennis) of Overland Park, Kansas; and grandchildren Hannah, Leah, Luke, Jared, Shelby, and Easton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joyce Cobb-Barker.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell. 

Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday, November 24, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. 

Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday November 24 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. A memorial has been established with Russell Senior Center.

 </figure>Norman George Anschutz, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Via Christi Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita.Norman was born on October 15, 1939, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Louis and Vivian (Thielen) Anschutz. He grew up in Dorrance, Kansas, and graduated from Dorrance High School in the class of 1958. He attended Kansas State University, graduating with an Architecture degree in 1963, and spending most of his early professional career with Shaver &amp; Company in Salina, Kansas. During a temporary project assignment in California, he met and fell in love with Barbara Jean Dito. The couple was united in marriage on May 31, 1969, in San Francisco, California. Norman and Barbara began their new life together in San Jose, California and were blessed with two children: Cheryl and Michael. In 1976, the family moved back to Kansas, making their home in Russell. Norman worked part-time as an architect while maintaining the family farm he had dearly missed while in California. Though having moved away, Norman ensured the family traveled back to San Francisco frequently to stay connected to Barbara’s Italian family, while enjoying the amazing food and taking in all the sights and traditions. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. Norman was a dedicated member of the Russell COOP coffee group where he enjoyed spending his morning visiting with friends. Norm and Barb loved traveling to Colorado, and other scenic locations as he loved the outdoors. A tender heart for animals, Norman found great joy caring for the farm cats and the many dogs in his life over the years. He was also an avid collector of scale model John Deere equipment and Model T Cars, and a lifelong history buff. After discovering the wonders of the iPad, he would spend countless hours learning everything he could about history and listening to his beloved music. Norman George Anschutz

Holdan M. Hartman was born October 22, 1993, to Amy Brockelman and David Hartman. He took his life Tuesday, November 18, 2025, due to the failure of the justice system; a continued hindrance to his life instead of helping.

Holdan was a smart, funny, hard-working man who loved his family, his fur babies and wife dearly.

Some days you would find him tinkering on something in the garage or coming up with brilliant ideas. Some days just at the computer ‘nerding’ out. He loved his fur babies, so some days he just sat on the couch while loving on Shiloh, Elsa, Theo, Luna Bug and more recently Simon and Sadie.

He will be missed so terribly by his wife Erin; dad, David Hartman; mom, Amy (Butch) Brockelman; grandfather, Bruce Halpain Sr.; sister Anna (Andrew) Jones; niece and nephew, Abigail and AJ; brother, Andrue Halpain; sister, Miranda (Derek) Pistora; step brothers, Jacob and Steven Brockelman; Erin’s parents, Harold and Bonnie Wellmeier; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evelyn and Mickey Hartman and grandmother, Anita Halpain.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Ark Church, 2020 S. Ohio, Salina, KS 67401. The family kindly requests no flowers and ask that you plant a tree in memory of Holdan.
