Thomas (Tommy) Wasson Sloan, 78, passed away on November 29 surrounded by his family. Tommy was born on April 25, 1947, to Cleland and Doris (Wasson) Sloan in Oberlin.

Tommy was raised in Selden and Norton Kansas and graduated from the U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City in 1965. After high school Tommy traveled to Germany to live there with his family for just over a year. He was later called home from Germany to serve in the U.S. National Guard. Tommy started his lifelong career and passion for truck driving in 1968.

Tommy had a deep interest in politics throughout his life and enjoyed watching college sports in his later years. Other than his family, there was nothing that Tommy loved more than driving truck. He retired from the road in 2014 after a wonderful career of driving and volunteering his time to be a part of the Special Olympics Convoy every year. Tommy went on to involve himself in truck shows across the country, traveling with his son Matt and the Steel Wool Clan as well as many friends from all different directions. Along with that, he became a master lawn mower, spending most of his summers cutting grass.

Tom had a love of driving all of his life, buying his first car at 13, before even being issued a driver’s license. After traveling back to the states and beginning his career Tommy adopted Kari Husted, his first wife's daughter, and went on to have a son, Matthew, in 1978. He later remarried Leanna Gallagher Sloan in 1998. Tom spent over 27 joy-filled years with Leanna, the love of his life. Tom and Leanna dedicated most of their married lives taking care of the people around them. They helped their son Matt raise his daughter, their granddaughter, Jaylei as he followed in his dad’s footsteps as a long haul truck driver. In 2020 Tom and Leanna became the caregivers of Mark and John Richardson after their mothers passing and have spent the last five and a half years tending to the boys. Tommy had a great love for Mark and John, just as they have always loved him.

Tommy is survived by his wife Leanna Sloan, sister Judy Shirley, son Matthew Sloan, daughter Kari Sloan Husted, granddaughters Jaylei Sloan, and Alex Fisher, his boys Mark and John Richardson, and his pup Malli.

Tom was preceded in death by his father Cleland Sloan (1988), Sister Cindy Sauder (2014), and his mother Dorris (Wasson) Sloan (2023).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 3rd at Hoxie United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 2-7p.m. at Mickey Leopold Funeral Home, with family receiving guests from 6 to 7. Following visitation, at 7:00 p.m. there will be a Service of Remembrance, a time for sharing stories and honoring Tommy’s memory. Burial will be later in the Selden Cemetery.

Roy Lee Albers, 68, of Smolan, KS, passed away November 27, 2025, in Salina, KS. Roy was born April 25, 1957, in Grinnell, KS, to Leroy and Loretta (George) Albers.

Roy was a proud veteran. He served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 1977. He spent most of his life as an automotive body painter, working in various autobody shops. He had a hobby for painting his own vehicles as well.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Loretta Albers; grandparents, Alva and Verna George, John and Mary Albers, and several aunts, uncles, and in- laws.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Robin Kay Albers; children, Crystal (Jamie) Reynolds, Terri (Michael) May, Michael Albers, Weston (Chelle) Albers, Kaylee (Morgan) Hamilton, Kaidee Albers; sisters, Kathy (Charles) Miller, Patty (Ron) Heier, Kristie (John) Munoz; brothers, Jeff (Shelly) Albers; 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 118 N 9th St. Salina, KS. With a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.

Roy Lee Albers

Donald Allen Smischny, 97, of Salina, Kansas passed peacefully on November 29, 2025 after a brief illness. Don was born in Ellsworth, Kansas on August 17, 1928 to Rudy and Ruby (Allen) Smischny. 

He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1946, and attended Kansas State University in Manhattan for one year before returning to Ellsworth. He worked with his father on the family farm and also held several jobs, including working at the Blackwolf General Store and serving as a County 4-H agent. In 1948 he started his long career in education, teaching grades 1-8 at several one-room “country schools,” including Pleasant Hill and Ash Creek.

In December 1950, Don enlisted in the Navy, and served four years on the heavy cruiser USS Toledo during the Korean War. Starting as a Seaman Recruit, he advanced to the position of 2nd Class Legal Yeoman, responsible for the recording and typing of court martials and other legal matters on ship.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1955, Don returned to Ellsworth for a few weeks before beginning his studies under the G.I. Bill at Fort Hays University. 

It was during this time he met his future wife, Barbara (Passiglia), at choir practice at the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church. She was teaching at the junior-high school in Ellsworth, and he often said “I was immediately attracted to this cute Italian girl from Kansas City - I believe it was love at first sight!”

They were married in Kansas City, Missouri on May 29, 1955 and moved to Hays, Kansas for Don to finish his college studies. He graduated from Fort Hays University in May 1956 with a BS in Elementary Education, and that summer began work on his Masters Degree. Don and Barbara moved to Hutchinson, Kansas in the fall of 1956, where he taught 6th grade for 3 years. 

He continued attending college during the summers, and In May 1957, he received his Masters Degree in Elementary School Administration.In 1960, an administrator position opened at the Ellsworth Elementary School and Don was hired, coming full circle back to an education career in his hometown. Don served as Ellsworth Elementary School principal for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

Don was very active in the Ellsworth community, serving as President of the Fine Arts Guild for a number of years. He served in various leadership positions at Ellsworth Presbyterian Church, and after moving to Salina in 1997, also at Sunrise Presbyterian Church. He was an active resident of the Salina Presbyterian Manor since 2008.

Don had many interests, and enjoyed traveling, square dancing, gardening, playing in several bridge groups, and working the daily crossword puzzle. He was an artist at heart, and enjoyed creating beautiful things, including intricate stained glass pieces.Don was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Smischny, in September 2023. 

He is survived by his children: Randy Smischny - Manhattan, Kansas; Cheryl Klink (Doug) - Odessa, Florida; Melinda Hutton (Tracy) - North Newton, Kansas; and Janis Smischny - Salina, Kansas, as well as four grandchildren: Matthew Hutton - Lawrence, Kansas, Ryan Hutton - Newton, Kansas, Jennifer Klink - Arvada, Colorado, and Douglas Klink - Santa Cruz, California.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 5, at 10:30 am, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina, Kansas. The service will be followed by a luncheon and fellowship time. A private inurnment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina, Kansas at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Donald A. Smischny Educator Fund, through the Greater Salina Community Foundation.

Donald Allen Smischny

Linda Kay Pierce, 68, of Mankato, KS, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and steadfast faith in the Lord, helped brace her through her struggles and ultimately gave her peace.

Born May 19, 1957, in Beloit, KS, to Leo and Angeline Eilert, Linda was one of five children. She grew up spirited, passionate and adventurous. Resilient in nature, her positivity was limitless.

A proud graduate of Mankato High School and Cloud County Community College, Linda married Bradley Ost and raised two kids, Ryan and Staci. Linda was known for her warmth, kindness, selflessness and signature smile. She dedicated decades to serving her community in local dentistry and later at Jewell County Hospital and Rural Health Clinic.

Linda adored her family, but her greatest joy was being “Grandma” — a title she wore like a crown. She shared a unique, unconditional bond with each of her grandchildren. She enjoyed tending her flowers, caring for others and any project that needed endless energy. In 2016, she married Matthew Pierce, and together they built a warm welcoming home always open to family and friends.

Linda is loved and remembered by her husband Matthew Pierce of Mankato, daughter Staci Whelchel (Chris) and grandchildren, Lauren, Kale, Eli and Karlee of Mankato; daughter -in-law Darcy Reinke, (Jed) and grandson Caden Ost of York, NE; Her sister, Sue Doerr (Robert) of Green Valley, AZ; brother Fred and family of Mankato; brother Duane (Mary Ann) and family of Powhattan, KS; In-Laws Jeff &amp; Erlina Pierce of Mankato; Susan Pierce of Narka, KS; Henry &amp; Kim Pierce of Narka, KS; Gilly Reiter of Jewell, KS; Clifford &amp; Beverly Pierce of Yukon, OK; Andrea &amp; Thomas Held of Hermann, MO; Beth &amp; Mike Svoboda of Narka, KS; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Linda Kay Pierce

Kay Yvonne Gibson, 89, died November 29, 2025, at The Cedars Retirement Community in McPherson, Kansas. She was born November 27, 1936, in Minneapolis, Kansas, the youngest of three daughters of Ernest and Ima (Merryfield) Pogue. 

After graduating from Minneapolis High School, Kay attended Kansas State Teachers College (now known as Emporia State University), Emporia, Kansas, where she met her first husband, Robert (Bob) Hawk. They were married on June 10, 1956, and were the proud parents of Tacy, Kyle and Troy Hawk.

Through the years, Kay lived in many locations throughout Kansas: Great Bend, Valley Falls, Topeka, Lyndon, Hill City, Montezuma, Beloit, as well as Holdrege, Nebraska, finally settling in Salina, Kansas, with her second husband, Keith (Hoot) Gibson. Following his death, she moved to The Cedars in McPherson, Kansas. She spent many years working in education and secretarial jobs. She loved playing the piano, reading, putting puzzles together, as well as attending her kids and grandkids many sporting and school events.Kay was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Kenneth Pogue, oldest sister Janice Ferrell, husband Hoot Gibson, daughter Tacy Hawk and infant grandson Axyl Leven. She is survived by two sons, Kyle Hawk and wife Tammy of McPherson, KS, Troy Hawk and wife Carol of Beloit, KS, and adopted daughter Jennifer Leven and husband Willie of Canyon, TX. Kay is also survived by her sister Beverley Woodruff of Minneapolis, KS, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 5, at the First Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.

 </figure>Kay Yvonne Gibson, 89, died November 29, 2025, at The Cedars Retirement Community in McPherson, Kansas. She was born November 27, 1936, in Minneapolis, Kansas, the youngest of three daughters of Ernest and Ima (Merryfield) Pogue. After graduating from Minneapolis High School, Kay attended Kansas State Teachers College (now known as Emporia State University), Emporia, Kansas, where she met her first husband, Robert (Bob) Hawk. They were married on June 10, 1956, and were the proud parents of Tacy, Kyle and Troy Hawk.Through the years, Kay lived in many locations throughout Kansas: Great Bend, Valley Falls, Topeka, Lyndon, Hill City, Montezuma, Beloit, as well as Holdrege, Nebraska, finally settling in Salina, Kansas, with her second husband, Keith (Hoot) Gibson. Following his death, she moved to The Cedars in McPherson, Kansas. She spent many years working in education and secretarial jobs. She loved playing the piano, reading, putting puzzles together, as well as attending her kids and grandkids many sporting and school events.Kay was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Kenneth Pogue, oldest sister Janice Ferrell, husband Hoot Gibson, daughter Tacy Hawk and infant grandson Axyl Leven. She is survived by two sons, Kyle Hawk and wife Tammy of McPherson, KS, Troy Hawk and wife Carol of Beloit, KS, and adopted daughter Jennifer Leven and husband Willie of Canyon, TX. Kay is also survived by her sister Beverley Woodruff of Minneapolis, KS, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 5, at the First Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis. Vickie Lou Oviatt, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, was born on December 6, 1954, in Smith Center, Kansas. She peacefully departed this life on November 28, 2025, in Downs, Kansas.

She worked at GT Manufacturing and spent several years babysitting children. However, her most notable contribution came during her 32 years as City Clerk in Downs.

Vickie graduated from Osborne High School and went on to earn her associate degree from Hutch Community College. She approached her life and education with the same passion and commitment that would later define her relationship with her family and community.

Vickie lived a life rooted in her devotion to the Lord, finding purpose through service, prayer, and compassion. She was committed to serving her church community, offering support, encouragement, and love to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to her faith, guiding others to live with grace, generosity, and hope.

Her greatest gift was the love she poured into others, a love that will be cherished and held close by her family and friends. The memories she created, both big and small, will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

Vickie's personal joys were often found in the simple moments of life. She had a gift for thoughtfully decorating her home, creating spaces filled with warmth and love. Her Bible was her source of strength and comfort, guiding her through both the trials and triumphs of life. She cherished every moment spent with her treasured grandchildren, who filled her heart with immense joy and pride.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Douglas Oviatt; her sons, Kaleb Oviatt and wife Courtney; Heath Oviatt and wife Patricia; and her treasured grandchildren: Harlie, Hayden, Brody, Owen, and Eli. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her mother, Darlene Tipp; mother-in-law, Mary Oviatt; her sister, Cindy Garey and husband Howard; her brother, Tory Tipp, and wife Sonya. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Isaac, Tatum, Tegan, Tinsley, Falon, Megan, Cassy, Sheldon, Travis, Troy, and Tyler, all of whom will deeply miss her presence.

Vickie was preceded in death by her father, Louis Bernard Tipp; father-in-law, Howard Hofer; and brothers-in-law, Charles and Steven Oviatt.

A Celebration of Vickie's life will be at 10 a.m., Monday, December 8 at Assembly of God Church in Osborne. Inurnment will follow at Downs Cemetery. Vickie Lou Oviatt

Alan James Vonfeldt, 65, of Russell, Kansas, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side. After facing several strokes and enduring cancer, God called Alan home on Thursday, November 27th 2025. Alan was born January 26, 1960 in Russell, the youngest of five children born to Roy P. and Velma C. (Stang) Vonfeldt. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1978.

Alan met the love of his life, Carmen Ptacek, in high school and they were united in marriage on August 24, 1985. This union was blessed with three children; Matthew, Morgan and Michael. They made their home in Russell, living in town and later moving to the country.

Following in his father's footsteps from an early age, Alan owned his first oil well as a high school student. He took pride in drilling and producing Russell County oil. Alan loved the chase of striking oil; seizing every opportunity to expand and share the passion with his next generation.

The center of Alan’s life was his wife and family. Alan loved making memories with them by taking trips, sharing meals, attending concerts and time at the lake. He found such joy in being “Papa” and watching his grandchildren grow. He enjoyed going to demo derbies, mud runs, car shows and races. He was big-hearted and kind; sharing a warm smile and many laughs with friends and family. Alan was fond of his shed, offering conversation and drinks to anyone who would walk through the door. He enjoyed sharing stories, especially those about the oilfield.

Even while facing tremendous challenges and setbacks in his health, Alan reassured his family without complaint. His steadfast courage will never be forgotten.

Surviving family include his wife of 40 years, Carmen of the home; sons, Matthew Vonfeldt (Jordyn) of Russell, Kansas, and Michael Vonfeldt (Sarah) of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Morgan Murphy (Lance) of Gorham, Kansas; brother, Steven Vonfeldt (Mary) of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Vicki Munday of Russell, Kansas and Diane Lindenmuth (Darwin) of Woodward, Oklahoma; and nine beloved grandchildren (Lorrayn, Hadley, Blayke, Ada, Whit, Evie, Dutton, Callan and Griffin). Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Velma Vonfeldt, and infant sister, Karen Vonfeldt.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 5, 2025 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Alan James Vonfeldt

Marilyn Bernice Dilling was born to Fred and Nellie Stuber, the sixth of eight daughters, on August 29, 1929, in Belleville, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away at Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas at the age of 96 years, 2 months, 28 days.

She lived through the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, the civil unrest of the 60’s, the assassinations of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert F. Kennedy, and the Viet Nam War.&nbsp; She saw the birth of television, computers, and cell phones, and witnessed the first moon landing.&nbsp; She was a survivor of breast cancer.

Throughout her school years she attended Belleville Public Schools where she was active in Band and vocal music ensembles, winning a 1 in a clarinet music solo.&nbsp; She graduated from Belleville High School in the spring of 1947.

After high school Marilyn attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, where she was the 1951 Lilac Fete beauty queen and met Tracy Dilling, her future husband.&nbsp; During her Kansas Wesleyan days, she and Tracy sang together in the college choir traveling to Mexico and various other U.S locations to perform, and met lifelong friends.&nbsp; She worked for N. J. Ward, Esquire, part time during the summers of 1947 – 1951 to help finance her college education. She graduated from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas in the spring of 1952 with a B.A. in music education.&nbsp;

Marilyn B. Stuber and Tracy W. Dilling were married August 17, 1952, in Belleville, Kansas, at First United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Both subsequently began teaching careers which were soon interrupted with Tracy being drafted into the army.&nbsp; They spent about 1 year in Honolulu, Hawaii, returning home in the fall of 1954.&nbsp; Marilyn substitute taught music in Hawaii and for another year back home before ending her teaching career to raise her three children. She resumed working in the Salina Public school central office from 1973 until 1984.

Marilyn’s favorite hobby was playing bridge.&nbsp; Many a Friday and Saturday night found she and Tracy playing bridge with lifelong college friends or her sister, Mary Agnes Johnson and brother-in-law, Dana Johnson, and sister Judy Killian and brother-in-law Mike Killian, or with bridge club members.

As a member of University United Methodist Church in Salina for over 60 years, Marilyn sang in the church choir and was active in the Women’s Society of Christian Service Club.&nbsp; She was a member of the Salina Municipal Band for several years where she continued to play clarinet.&nbsp; She and Tracy sang duets for weddings and funerals for many years in and around Salina.&nbsp; Their signature funeral duet was The Lord’s Prayer.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy Dilling, sisters Louise Dyer, Lois Elyea, Kathleen Weaver, Ramah Bledsoe, and Margaret Jean, who died at the age of 2 from scarlet fever, and brothers-in-law Ben Dyer, Keith Elyea, Gene Weaver, Dana Johnson, and Robert Bledsoe.

Marilyn will be truly missed by her son and daughter-in law, Don and Betty Dilling of Pratt, daughter Stephanie Dilling of Topeka, son and son-in-law Doug Dilling and Jeremy Musko of Indianapolis, sister and brother-in-law Judy and Mike Killian of Salina, sister Mary Agnes Johnson of Salina, granddaughter Katie Dilling and her life partner, Kurtis Ferguson, of Hutchinson, granddaughter and grandson-in-law Mindy and Shawn Walters of Boise, great granddaughter Maddie Ferguson of Hutchinson, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends from across the U.S.

A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Manor Chapel in Salina, Kansas, on Sunday, November 30, at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Dave Parker officiating.

DeLyn M. Farr, 87 of Abilene passed away November 27, 2025. She was born April 28, 1938 in La Crosse, Kansas the daughter of William Starr and Evelyn Scheuerman. 

She served as a dedicated school secretary, where her tough love and kindness along with her positive spirit made a lasting impact on thousands of students, staff, and the entire school community during her 37 years of service. DeLyn is survived by her children: Stoney Farr (Debbie); Mark Farr (Kathy); Kari Butler (Gene) and Dori Farr. Seven grandchildren: Megan Kissel; Jessica Pyle; Dakota Hoekman; Mollie Rohrbaugh; Shay Post; Alyssa Farr and Parker Farr. Ten great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Darlene Starr. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Charlie Hines and brother, William “Bill: Starr Jr. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at New Trail Fellowship Church. 

Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-7 P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given to the Delyn Farr Scholarship Fund to be used for students going into nursing.

She served as a dedicated school secretary, where her tough love and kindness along with her positive spirit made a lasting impact on thousands of students, staff, and the entire school community during her 37 years of service. DeLyn is survived by her children: Stoney Farr (Debbie); Mark Farr (Kathy); Kari Butler (Gene) and Dori Farr. Seven grandchildren: Megan Kissel; Jessica Pyle; Dakota Hoekman; Mollie Rohrbaugh; Shay Post; Alyssa Farr and Parker Farr. Ten great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Darlene Starr. Edwin D. Benfer, 78 of Miltonvale, Kansas died on Wednesday, November 25, 2025 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Edwin was born July 14, 1947 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of John D. and Letha (Plock) Benfer. He grew up in Longford, Kansas and graduated from Longford High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After he returned from his military service, Ed farmed in the Miltonvale, Kansas area. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah and husband, Josh Clayton of Downingtown, PA; 2 grandchildren, Savannah and Josie Clayton; sisters, Phyllis and husband Lyle Berges of St. George, KS and Joyce and husband Gene Oliver of Round Rock, TX; brothers, Philip and wife Carol Benfer, Dwight and wife Pam Benfer and Kevin and wife Karen Benfer all of Longford, KS.

Dale Wayne Taylor was born July 19, 1959 in Horton, Kansas to Clyde Robert and Dorothy Alvina Taylor. He left this life on November 24, 2025, at the age of 66 years old.

Dale loved the outdoors, he loved to fish and hunt. Dale wasn’t one to conform, he wanted thing on his terms. He quit school at the age of 17 to enter the working world in Junction City, living with family and friends while working for Mid America Movers and other moving companies. He met his first wife, Sue, and shortly after they moved to Florida to learn carpentry with Environmental Homes, a family-owned company. A few years later, he moved back to Chapman, Kansas. He struggled with his vices, got divorced and found his way back to Florida. It was then that he met his wife, Colleen, who survives him. After several years he began driving trucks, moving to Provo, Utah, until coming back to Kansas in 2004, where he lived until the end of his life.

Dale truly missed Kansas. He was aided by his brother buying property and was able to build a home in the country North of Chapman, Kansas next to Milford Lake, a place he loved. He fulfilled his dream of having a home in the country and was joined by other family members: his dad and step mother, who proceeded him in death; his sister, Laronda Smith, and her husband Vance; his brother Val and wife Becky. Dale is also survived by his sister, Stacy Campbell, and his step brother, Mike Post. His oldest sister, Clydene Rauch, also preceded him in death. Others left to honor the memory of Dale are his nephews and nieces, their children and many cousins, and we cannot forget his beloved pups, Jesse and Buddy, whom he dearly loved.

Dale loved to fish and hunt, the family would like to think of him off doing what he lived to do, catching big fish and chasing deer.

Isaiah 40:31 says,” But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Bernice L. Whispell, 96, of Salina, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025.&nbsp; She was born in Oneonta, New York, on May 1, 1929 to William and Beatrice (Kelly) Reihl.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughter, Shannon Utley (Joseph), of Salina; grandchildren, Charity Palmer and Shanya Rifenburg; great-grandchildren, Chantea, Quinleslie, Breanna, Karon, Alisha, Ozzie, and Lemy; sisters, Kathryn Drawdy and Swanna Jean Loomis; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Gerald Bush and Daniel Whispell; and her siblings.

Gerold Dean Jilka, 79 of Mission, passed away November 25, 2025, in Salina Kansas. He was born December 12, 1946, in Leavenworth Kansas, to Edward Jr. and Celestial Elisabeth (West) Jilka.

Gerold graduated from Salina High in 1964. After high school he attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1968. Gerold joined the Air Force after graduation, serving in Vietnam and received a purple heart. After four years of service Gerold left the Air Force.

Gerold Dean Jilka served 30 years as an Air Traffic Controller for Kansas City International and Omaha International airports. In retirement, he spent time between his two homes; Mission Kansas and Scottsdale Arizona during the cold Kansas winters as this allowed him to golf year-round. Gerold’s love for golf and consistent play earned him a lifetime 8 handicap. Though Scottsdale provided abundant sun and warmth, his heart was always in Kansas City where he could watch and cheer for his beloved Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.

Wayne Earl Watts, 78, of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.Wayne was born on October 15, 1947, in Ada, Oklahoma, the son of Evelyn (Moore) and Earl Watts. He grew up in Konawa,Oklahoma and graduated from Konawa High School and East Central State College in 1968.

Following graduation, Wayne worked alongside his father at Watts Funeral Home before moving to Liberal, Kansas, in 1970. He later joined Citizens State Bank in Liberal before settling in Minneapolis, Kansas. Wayne spent many years employed with Schwan’s in Salina until his retirement, remaining in Minneapolis for the rest of his life.

A man of humor and kindness, Wayne was known for his love of old movies, classic rock and roll, and the joy he found in playing his guitars. He cherished friendships and was a loyal companion to many throughout his life.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Allison Watts (Zach Taylor) of Portland, Oregon; his sister, Loretta Winkler (Luther) of Liberal, Kansas; his brother, Drew Watts (Tami) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his dear friend, Sarah Everitt of Salina, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Aaron Watts; and his sisters, Bobbie Hillhouse and Earlene Whitaker.

Cremation has been chosen, and no services are planned.

Gail Lee, 72, passed away November 21st at home. Gail was born January 8, 1953 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Ray Lee and Faye (McConnell) Bradley.

Gail started working at Rural Electric Company in Bird City, Kansas, as a lineman after graduating high school.

They moved to Osborne in 1987 when Gail went to work for Jewell-Mitchell/Rolling Hills Electric Company. He worked as a lineman for 43 years.

He married Sherri (Hicks) Lee on July 4th 1986. They had 4 sons, Wayne, Wade, Wylie and Wyatt.

Gail was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved to go camping with family and friends.

Gail is survived by his wife Sherri, sons Wayne and Wyatt. Siblings Gena, Bill (Marjorie), Bob (Nina), Jody (Deron). Grandchildren Jacob (Elizabeth), Olivia, Maison and Ryker. Several cousins, nieces and nephews

Gail Lee

After 98 years of living larger than life, Marilyn Pfeiffer Hake died Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn was born on September 17, 1927 to John Ira and Mary (Jacobs) Pfeiffer in Tipton, Kansas. She was the youngest of three children and attended St. Boniface Grade School, graduating from Tipton High School in 1945. Marilyn studied art at Marymount College in Salina. Afterwards, a summer working at the Oregon Journal led to a lifelong love of the Pacific Northwest. For all of her life, a guaranteed way to get her to light up was to mention the word “Oregon” to her.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Former classmate Clarence “Pappy” Hake asked her, “Will you marry up with me?” and they were joined in marriage on September 4, 1950 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. They had seven children and celebrated 71 years of marriage before Pappy’s death in 2021.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Whether known as Marilyn, “Mert,” “Momma,” or “Grams,” those who knew her were sure to know her quick wit, her stylistic flair, and her unwavering sense of self. Hard times were met with resilience and reliance on her strong faith. Through every chapter of her life, she stepped more into who she was, with her creativity continually on display.

&nbsp; &nbsp;During her years raising children, she channeled her grit and energy toward finessing the art of homemaking. Whether making sunshine meatloaf, sewing into the late hours, or adding decorative touches to the home Pappy built for them east of Tipton, her keen eye would add flair to the everyday. Marilyn could spot rusted car headlights in a junk pile, send Pappy to retrieve them, tuck in stalks of milo, and transform them into new wall sconces for the dining room.

&nbsp; &nbsp;For her next chapter, Marilyn returned to the art training she received at Marymount. In the early 1980s, she dove into pencil art, drawing “The Old Homestead,” “Ladies with Purses,” “Men at the Auction” and many other heartland scenes inspired by the rural life around her. Showing at art fairs and festivals opened a new world. It fed her love of travel, introduced her to countless new faces, and earned her multiple People’s Choice awards. True to her nature, she never met a stranger. From the Winfield Bluegrass Festival to small-town art shows across the Midwest, Marilyn carried her art with her, and it carried her into the wider world.

&nbsp; &nbsp;In 1999, they opened up their home as Blue Hills Lodge, welcoming pheasant hunters from all over to enjoy the land and small-town life that they loved. After a long day in the field, the hunters could return to Blue Hills to find Pappy stirring the fire and Marilyn trailing after her daughters as they cleaned, checking bed corners, dusting a forgotten nook, and sprucing up every inch, reminding them, “it’s my house.” When the chores were done, they would gather by the bonfire with the hunters, swapping stories and laughter on the homestead they built.

&nbsp; &nbsp;In her final chapter at Resident Care Center in Beloit, Marilyn’s quips and quick wit carried her through. She had a gift for making people laugh - sometimes by landing the perfect line at the perfect moment, and other times by blurting out the perfectly wrong thing. Either way, both would add a story for the highlight reel. Whether it was her oft-repeated “Merlot, merloss, merlont,” or saying with a twinkle in her eye, “If you can’t be good, be careful,” she kept everyone on their toes.

&nbsp; &nbsp;As her life comes to an end, we carry on Marilyn’s legacy - whether it’s dancing in the kitchen to Ray Charles, attempting her syncopated knife-tapping routine, or laughing at one of her witticisms, she leaves behind a family that will forever treasure her spirit. Marilyn asked us to put “I told you I was sick” on her headstone, but instead we’ll put it here. And we’ll say goodbye in her preferred way: see you in the funnies! We love you!

&nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn is survived by her children Jan Hake of McPherson, Lisa Hake of Tipton, Leslie and Jim Shirack of Salina, Lila and Felton Lawrence of Sand Springs, OK, Mark Hake of Tipton, and Mary Lynne and Dave Rauch of Sandia Park, NM; her grandchildren Drew and Brandi Shirack of Tipton, Lindsey Shirack of Austin, TX, Ashley and Ray Ofosu of Edmond, OK, Kacey and Matt Price of Luther, OK, Addison Rauch of Albuquerque, NM, Mason Rauch of Miami, FL, Jackson Hake of College Station, TX, and Rory Hake of Stillwater, OK; and great grandchildren Carter Shirack, Isaiah, Eli and Ainslee Ofosu, and Jordyn, Khloe and Kyler Price. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her parents, her son Galen, her grandson Blake Shirack, her sister Evelyn and her brother Kenneth.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, November 25 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 PM, followed by a rosary service at 7 PM Monday, November 24 at the Church.  </figure>After 98 years of living larger than life, Marilyn Pfeiffer Hake died Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; &nbsp;Marilyn was born on September 17, 1927 to John Ira and Mary (Jacobs) Pfeiffer in Tipton, Kansas. She was the youngest of three children and attended St. Boniface Grade School, graduating from Tipton High School in 1945. Marilyn studied art at Marymount College in Salina. Afterwards, a summer working at the Oregon Journal led to a lifelong love of the Pacific Northwest. For all of her life, a guaranteed way to get her to light up was to mention the word “Oregon” to her.&nbsp; &nbsp;Former classmate Clarence “Pappy” Hake asked her, “Will you marry up with me?” and they were joined in marriage on September 4, 1950 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. They had seven children and celebrated 71 years of marriage before Pappy’s death in 2021.&nbsp; &nbsp;Whether known as Marilyn, “Mert,” “Momma,” or “Grams,” those who knew her were sure to know her quick wit, her stylistic flair, and her unwavering sense of self. Hard times were met with resilience and reliance on her strong faith. Through every chapter of her life, she stepped more into who she was, with her creativity continually on display.&nbsp; &nbsp;During her years raising children, she channeled her grit and energy toward finessing the art of homemaking. Whether making sunshine meatloaf, sewing into the late hours, or adding decorative touches to the home Pappy built for them east of Tipton, her keen eye would add flair to the everyday. Marilyn could spot rusted car headlights in a junk pile, send Pappy to retrieve them, tuck in stalks of milo, and transform them into new wall sconces for the dining room.&nbsp; &nbsp;For her next chapter, Marilyn returned to the art training she received at Marymount. In the early 1980s, she dove into pencil art, drawing “The Old Homestead,” “Ladies with Purses,” “Men at the Auction” and many other heartland scenes inspired by the rural life around her. Showing at art fairs and festivals opened a new world. It fed her love of travel, introduced her to countless new faces, and earned her multiple People’s Choice awards. True to her nature, she never met a stranger. From the Winfield Bluegrass Festival to small-town art shows across the Midwest, Marilyn carried her art with her, and it carried her into the wider world.&nbsp; &nbsp;In 1999, they opened up their home as Blue Hills Lodge, welcoming pheasant hunters from all over to enjoy the land and small-town life that they loved. After a long day in the field, the hunters could return to Blue Hills to find Pappy stirring the fire and Marilyn trailing after her daughters as they cleaned, checking bed corners, dusting a forgotten nook, and sprucing up every inch, reminding them, “it’s my house.” When the chores were done, they would gather by the bonfire with the hunters, swapping stories and laughter on the homestead they built.&nbsp; &nbsp;In her final chapter at Resident Care Center in Beloit, Marilyn’s quips and quick wit carried her through. She had a gift for making people laugh - sometimes by landing the perfect line at the perfect moment, and other times by blurting out the perfectly wrong thing. Either way, both would add a story for the highlight reel. Whether it was her oft-repeated “Merlot, merloss, merlont,” or saying with a twinkle in her eye, “If you can’t be good, be careful,” she kept everyone on their toes.&nbsp; &nbsp;As her life comes to an end, we carry on Marilyn’s legacy - whether it’s dancing in the kitchen to Ray Charles, attempting her syncopated knife-tapping routine, or laughing at one of her witticisms, she leaves behind a family that will forever treasure her spirit. Marilyn asked us to put “I told you I was sick” on her headstone, but instead we’ll put it here. And we’ll say goodbye in her preferred way: see you in the funnies! Jonathan Paul Picking&nbsp;Jon was born in Abilene KS, May 8th, 1967 and died at SRHC Salina KS&nbsp; November 22nd, 2025, after a long battle with renal failure.

Jon was the glue that held us together. He had the answer to&nbsp;all our questions. He was a man of all things. He could do anything.Always trying, always figuring things out.

He loved wholeheartedly. He was strong, kind, funny, and fun to be around.

He is survived by his mother Sharon Picking, brothers Matthew Picking and Robert Pickingsisters Kelly Goth and husband Troy, Brandy Starr and husband Tim, Stacey Viers.

Significant other Paula Twist, daughter Amanda Picking, son Johnny Picking, grandchildren Kyra, Dylan, Logan, Ian, Gracie, Joe, nephews Joseph Picking,&nbsp;Jackson Goth and fiance Natasha Allen, nieces Kamber Musgrove, Katie and husband Cam HarrodHis extended family and friends. And of course every one of his fur babies.

He is preceded by his father Paul Lee Picking, grandparents Herbert and Adeline Cousins, Lawrence and Shirley Picking and granddaughter Kalie Dawn.Remember Jon smiling, laughing, joking, and fishing at the State Lake.

He will be missed by everyone who ever met him.

Jonathan Paul Picking 

Daniel Paul Morabito of Abilene, Kansas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 6, 2025.

Daniel was born in Binghamton, New York to Thelma Clark Morabito and James Vincent Morabito.

After graduating high school at Anderson Valley High School in Boonville, California, Dan attended Napa Valley College where he played football. Dan was an avid sportsman breaking records in High School and College, earning All-American.

Dan later joined the Police force, then Emergency Medical Services (EMS), as well as worked as a surgical technician. Dan moved to Kansas and excelled in Emergency Medical Services becoming Director of EMS in several Kansas counties, developing state protocols,&nbsp; and putting together numerous Ambulance services across Kansas.

Dan received the Norman E. McSwain MS Service Award for his achievements in emergency medical services as well as Governor’s awards for his accomplishments within EMS.

Dan owned and operated a number of his own businesses during his time while still active in EMS. After retiring from EMS he and his wife own and operate a Salon and Day Spa.

When Dan wasn’t working, which wasn’t often, you could find him on the open road riding his motorcycle, doing construction, tending to farm animals or out in his shop tinkering. Dan was always involved in his community, being a Boy Scout Leader, volunteering, active in his Church, or helping a neighbor, Dan cherished the friendships he made along the way.

Dan leaves behind a legacy not only in his commitment to EMS and saving many lives, but also in the lives of the people that were blessed enough to call him a friend.&nbsp; Dan built his little farm, his oasis away from chaos, his happy place. His fingerprints are on every board, every fence, every gate, every tool, a lasting reminder of a man who worked hard and trusted in his faith.

Left to mourn his passing are his Wife, Tisha Comer Morabito; Son: Sequoyah Morabito; Daughters: Shauna Morabito Boyd, Mindee Morabito Reynolds and Brooke Morabito; 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild;

Siblings: Donald Cave Jr, Charmaine Cave-Dersham, Summer Cave, Brenda Cave-James, Christopher Cave, Mark Cave Sr., Mary Morabito Stori and Mark Morabito. Numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces/nephews.

Verona Jean (Collette) Perret, age 96, of Concordia, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS. She was born on April 20,1929 at the St. Joseph Hospital to Albert &amp; Jardine (Courville) Collette.

Verona attended catholic schools in Concordia and graduated in 1947.&nbsp;&nbsp;She then attended Marymount School of Nursing and received her diploma to become a registered nurse in 1950.

Verona’s nursing career began in the nursery of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;She spent most of her years working for the Cloud County Health Department.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked in multiple roles with the health department, such as school nurse, home health nurse, giving immunizations and whatever role they needed her to do for the community.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verona served her patients with kindness and compassion and received several achievement awards throughout the years.

Verona led a very active life filled with family, church, friends, volunteering for numerous organizations and serving others whenever she could.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verona was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary (her uniform is proudly displayed at the Cloud County Historical Museum).
