Obituary for Jovita H. Christensen | Ryan Mortuary

February 1, 1925 ~ August 20, 2021 (age 96)

SALINA- Jovita H. Christensen, 96, died Friday August 20, 2021.  She was born February 1, 1925 to Albert and Barbara Burghart in Spearville, KS.

She was a teacher and administrator for 40 years.  She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph of which she was a member at that time including  St. Michael’s School, Fairbury NE, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Concordia, KS, St Mary’s, Gorham, KS, St. Peter and Paul, Cawker City, KS, All Saints, Gladstone, MI, Sacred Heart, Salina, and Marymount College, Salina.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Jordan E. Christensen whom she married in 1976, and husband Kenneth Colborn whom she married in 2005;  her parents; and brothers Rev. Leonard Burghart, Harold Burghart, Dr. Robert Burghart, Vern Burghart; sisters-in-law, Edna Burghart, Edith Burghart, Jeanette Burghart; and brother-in-law, Norman Ruder.

She is survived by her brothers, Francis Burghart of Houston, TX, Richard Burghart (Annette) of McPherson; sister Mildred Ruder of Bakersfield, CA; step-daughters Cheryl Johnson of Kenai, Alaska and Denise Colborn of Salina; sisters-in-law Jean Brown, Joyce Burghart; and brother-in-law Gary Christensen.

A rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 4, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina.  Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 6 at St. John’s Cemetery, Spearville, KS.
