Neva Jean Eberhart, 99, passed away on August 28, 2023 at 5:30 AM at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center in Salina, KS.

Neva was born on May 15, 1924 in Salina, KS to parents Arthur and Sarah Lusk Main.

She loved to color pictures and share them with whoever wanted them. She loved attending church and sharing the word of the Lord to anyone who would listen and missed not being able to attend the last few years.

Preceded in death by her parents Sarah and Arthur Main; Husband: Floyd Eberhart; Daughter: Carolyn and her husband George Young; her son; Martin A. Eberhart, Sons - in - law: Wayne Boyd and Tee Tremper; Grandchildren: Debbie Comer, Penny Young, Theresa and Thomas Tremper.

Neva is survived by Children Deloris Boyd of Salina, KS, Sarah Tremper of Salina, KS, Danny Eberhart and spouse Pat of Niles, KS; Linda Eberhart (Daughter-in-Law) of Salina, KS; Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren &amp; great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 5 - 7 PM in the Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel. Larry C. Merriman, 82, of Assaria, Kansas, passed away on August 31, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was the best Husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend to so many.

Larry was born on March 3, 1941, in Salina, Kansas, to Harry and Jessie Merriman. He graduated from Salina High School in 1959. He worked as an electrician for Merriman and Hoeffner Electric and retired from Phillips Lighting.

He is survived by his loving wife Bonnie of 62 years, daughters Deborah (Jack) Shelton, and Jennifer Enochs, Grandchildren Joshua (Kendra) Merriman, Logan (Ciara) Breault, Molly Schmidt, Sam Enochs, Jessie Enochs, Abby Shelton, and Great Grandchildren Gunner Greer, and Brogan Merriman, Sisters Mary Lou Arnold, Claudine Ashcraft, and Glenda McAfee, Son-In-Law Brad Breault, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughters Christie Breault, and Laurie Schmidt, parents Harry and Jessie Merriman, brothers Raymond Merriman and Aaron Merriman, and sister Joyce Satterlee.

A Memorial Service will be held at Church of the Cross, 1600 Rush Street in Salina, Kansas, on Thursday, September 7, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Libby Themis officiating. A luncheon will be held following the service at Church of the Cross.

Lisa Ann (Von Niederhausern) Olson, 61, passed away August 25, 2023 at KU Medical Center.

Lisa was born in Salina, Kansas on June 6, 1962, the daughter of David and Lorita (Bond) Von Niederhausern. Growing up, Lisa attended Salina schools, eventually graduating from Salina Central High School in 1980. She later attended Hutchinson Community College. Lisa married Dee Farmer in 1986 and together they welcomed a son, Andrew John. Later, in 1994, Lisa found a life partner in Jeff Olson and became a bonus mom to Scott. In addition to her role as mom, she loved being MeMe to her three grandchildren Silas, Witt and Sayre.

Throughout her life, she embraced various roles and jobs, demonstrating her ability to succeed at anything she put her mind to. Lisa helped manage the family's small business, Speedline Racing Products, contributing to its growth and success. A true enthusiast, she wholeheartedly embraced sports and various hobbies, but her heart belonged to dirt track racing. The exhilaration of the track, the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts, and the thrill of the sport were a testament to her adventurous spirit.

Lisa is preceded in death by her parents David &amp; Lorita (Bond) Von Niederhausern and mother in law Bonnie Olson. Lisa is survived by her husband Jeff Olson, her sons Andrew (Hannah) and Scott, three grandchildren, sister Amy Rice (Bill), sister-in-law Sabrina Bergman, father-in-law Bob Olson along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind a community of friends who will forever cherish the time spent with her.

Lisa leaves behind a legacy of love and passion that touched the lives of many in the community. She will be truly missed by her family and those who knew her.

While Lisa’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Lisa in a way that honors her spirit. Nancy J. Hunt of Detroit, KS, passed away on August 25, 2023, at her home. Nancy was born on August 8, 1963, in Carroll, Iowa, daughter of Doyle Hunt and Wanda Constable Hunt. Nancy graduated from Glidden-Ralston High School, Glidden, Iowa, in 1981. She attended Cloud County Community College to further her education. Nancy was a strong lover of quilting and sewing, gardening, raising chickens and gathering eggs, and loving cats. She loved her family very much, showing her love in many different ways that were unique to each of them. 

Nancy spent a major portion of her working career in school food service in the area.Nancy is survived by her father Doyle Hunt (Mary Fairchild) of Glidden, Iowa, and mother Wanda Soutter of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Her family includes partner Ray Heideman of the home, her daughters Bridgette Warnke of Gardner, KS, and Savana Ebel (Daniel) of Junction City, KS, and sons Aaron Warnke (Christine) of Salina, KS and Nicholas Warnke of Scranton, IA, and 5 bonus children. Siblings Mark Hunt of Mountain Home, AR, Peggy (Terry) Heldstab of Junction City, KS and Cynthia (Mark) Pickett of Topeka, KS, and sister-in-law Sheryl (Tom) Lynch of Carroll, IA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by a brother Murray Jon (Mike) Hunt and stepfather Richard Soutter. Nancy J. Hunt

Douglas “Doug” Craig Talbott, 78, passed away on August 26, 2023, at his home in Lindsborg with his family by his side. He was born to the late L. Stanley and the late M. Pauline (Pennington) Talbott on November 21, 1944, in Ft. Benning, Georgia where his Dad was stationed with the 11th Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. Doug attended Pratt, KS public schools through his sophomore year. His family moved to Russell, KS where he graduated from Russell High School in 1962. Doug found a love for tennis during his high school time and started his tennis coaching career working with youth through the Russell rec department.

Following in his parents’ footsteps, Doug enrolled at Bethany College in 1962. Doug was a member of the successful Bethany tennis teams from 1962-1966. He pledged and became an active member of the Pi Sigma Chi fraternity in 1963. In the Spring, 1966, he graduated from Bethany College with a degree in Music Education.

In the Fall, 1966, he accepted the position of Instrumental Music Director for grades 5-12 in Ellsworth, KS. Along with the numerous bands and ensembles, Doug would also teach Music Theory. Doug was selected as a USD 327 Outstanding Young Educator. In addition to teaching, Doug coached freshman boys’ basketball and high school boys’ tennis. In the summer of 1968, he was introduced to the person who would soon become his lifelong partner, Linda Svaty, who was home from Ft. Hays State for the summer. On February 15, 1969, they were united in marriage at the Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, KS. In addition to teaching in Ellsworth, he was choir director for the Presbyterian Church. Doug taught in Ellsworth from 1966 to the Spring of 1971, resigning to attend Ft. Hays State, Hays, KS, as a graduate assistant to complete his Music Education Master’s Degree. While at Hays, Doug and Linda became the proud parents of a son, Matthew Sean on May 11, 1972.

After receiving his master’s degree, Doug and his family moved to Nickerson, KS, where he became the Nickerson High School Band Director and taught Music Theory. The Marching Panther Band performed at the half-times of college football games and at the Tri-State Festival in Enid, OK. Doug was selected as an outstanding educator for USD 309, Nickerson, KS. Doug also served as choir director for the Nickerson Methodist Church from 1972 to 1978. During their time in Nickerson, Doug coached freshman boys’ basketball and high school girls’ tennis. He also enjoyed being a tennis pro at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, KS.

During the Spring of 1978, Doug made the decision to accept the Director of Bands and Music Theory position at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, KS. He became the Music Department Chair and the Kansas Community College Honor Band Chair. For nine summers Doug enjoyed being the director of the El Dorado City Band which presented a concert in the park every Thursday evening in June and July. The Butler Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform at the New Orleans and Reno Jazz Festivals. As the Director of Bands for Butler CCC he hosted concerts and clinics by Maynard Ferguson, Woody Hermann, Buddy Rich, Ed Shaughnessy and Mike Steinel. In the Fall of 1979, on September 14, Doug and Linda along with son Matt were blessed with the birth of twins, Mark David and Traci Liane.

Doug received a call from Bethany College, his Alma Mater, asking if he would be interested in pursuing the position of Alumni Director. This was a position his Dad had held for many years at Bethany. Doug had always said that if the college ever needed him, he would be there to help. New Years Eve of 1987, the family packed up and headed to Lindsborg, KS. From 1988 to 1990, Doug served as Director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving organizing the Phone-a-Rama, the McPherson and Lindsborg Giving Campaigns, alumni gatherings throughout the state and U.S.A., served as the college faculty representative and President of the Lindsborg Chamber of Commerce for two terms. While serving as Alumni Director, he organized the clinic and concert by Maynard Ferguson and his band in Presser Hall. He received the Meredith Humphries Excellence in Teaching Award and was appointed Professor Emeritus of Music.

In 1990, Doug was presented the opportunity to apply for the unexpected opening for Director of Bands for Smoky Valley High School. Missing teaching and directing, Doug was excited to be selected as the next Director of Bands for Smoky Valley High School which included all bands, music theory, and teaching a leadership class. The Symphonic Band was selected to represent Kansas in the Washington D.C. Festival of States with Governor Graves personally presenting a commendation certificate to the band. They performed at the Worlds of Fun band competition. The Marching Viking Band was selected as the Honor Band for Hyllningsfest and performed at half-time of the Bethany College Homecoming game. Doug coached the high school girls’ tennis team and middle school boys’ basketball team for the Smoky Valley school system.

In 2000, Doug was excited to apply and be selected to be Director of Bands for his beloved alma mater, Bethany College. From 2000 to 2010, he directed the numerous bands, was a studio instructor and taught Secondary Music Education Methods to future music teachers. Doug was the student teacher supervisor, head of the music education program, recipient of the Donna Meredith Humphries Award for Teaching/Advisement and Guidance, and sponsor for the Associated Music Students of Bethany College. The Bethany Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform in Branson, MO, as the opening act for Puttin’ on the Ritz and Legends in Concert Shows. The Jazz Ensemble was also selected to be the opening act for opening day of the 50th Anniversary of Silver Dollar City. The Jazz Ensemble was selected to play in the “Rock the Boat Festivals at Sea” aboard the M.S. Fascination and also the “Music Festivals Bahamas Cruise Tour” aboard the Majesty of the Seas. While Director of Bands for Bethany he served as the Fine Arts Division Chair retiring in 2010.

From 2010 to his passing, Doug served as an Adjunct Professor of Music Education for Bethany, was a KSDE Reviewer for Kansas College and University Music Education Programs and remained active as a guest clinician/director and adjudicator. Throughout his career, Doug was an active member of various musical associations including: National and State Educations Associations, Kansas Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC), Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kansas Bandmasters Association. Doug was a member and guest director for the Heart of America Concert Band from 1996-2014. Doug directed the Bethany All Star Jazz Band in 2016. In addition, Doug enjoyed other Lindsborg community musical involvement. The Trinity United Methodist Church choir singing and serving as music director for several years, being a member of the Salemsborg Lutheran Church choir, being a part of Broadway RFD as both a pit orchestra director and member and directing the Lindsborg Community 4th of July band from 1990-2016.

Besides his love for God and his family, teaching music was Doug’s life passion and career. Along with music, his love for tennis and sharing his knowledge of the sport was just as important to him. Doug coached his kids and grand-kids. Doug was an important part of the coaching staff for Bethany College Tennis Camps for many years, where he also helped start a high school girls’ tennis camp. Doug ran the Lindsborg Affiliated Tennis Tournaments that began decades ago and continue today. He was the Lindsborg Recreation head tennis coach for many years and continued to serve as an assistant in recent years. Doug was co-founder of the Lindsborg Netters Junior Tennis Club. Doug was still coaching tennis to the youth of Smoky Valley until his passing. Doug was an avid follower and supporter of his grand-kids’ various activities and enjoyed helping them whenever they needed or asked for assistance.

Survivors include his beloved wife and companion for over 54 years: Linda of the home; sons: Matt Talbott (Deb) of Ellsworth, KS and Mark (Serah) of Lindsborg, KS; daughter: Traci (Chris) of Lindsborg, KS: grandchildren: Danielle, Paige and Jaide Talbott, Ellsworth; Koltin Talbott, Eagle, CO; Gabriel and Ezekiel Baker, Lindsborg; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews plus countless friends.

Cremation has been chosen. A Celebration of Life with light meal will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10 A.M. at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, 3831 W. Salemsborg Rd, Smolan, KS. The service will be live streamed on Salemsborg’s YouTube channel: Salemsborg Lutheran.

Along with the numerous bands and ensembles, Doug would also teach Music Theory. Doug was selected as a USD 327 Outstanding Young Educator. In addition to teaching, Doug coached freshman boys’ basketball and high school boys’ tennis. In the summer of 1968, he was introduced to the person who would soon become his lifelong partner, Linda Svaty, who was home from Ft. Hays State for the summer. On February 15, 1969, they were united in marriage at the Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, KS. In addition to teaching in Ellsworth, he was choir director for the Presbyterian Church. Doug taught in Ellsworth from 1966 to the Spring of 1971, resigning to attend Ft. Hays State, Hays, KS, as a graduate assistant to complete his Music Education Master’s Degree. While at Hays, Doug and Linda became the proud parents of a son, Matthew Sean on May 11, 1972.After receiving his master’s degree, Doug and his family moved to Nickerson, KS, where he became the Nickerson High School Band Director and taught Music Theory. The Marching Panther Band performed at the half-times of college football games and at the Tri-State Festival in Enid, OK. Doug was selected as an outstanding educator for USD 309, Nickerson, KS. Doug also served as choir director for the Nickerson Methodist Church from 1972 to 1978. During their time in Nickerson, Doug coached freshman boys’ basketball and high school girls’ tennis. He also enjoyed being a tennis pro at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, KS.During the Spring of 1978, Doug made the decision to accept the Director of Bands and Music Theory position at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, KS. He became the Music Department Chair and the Kansas Community College Honor Band Chair. For nine summers Doug enjoyed being the director of the El Dorado City Band which presented a concert in the park every Thursday evening in June and July. The Butler Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform at the New Orleans and Reno Jazz Festivals. As the Director of Bands for Butler CCC he hosted concerts and clinics by Maynard Ferguson, Woody Hermann, Buddy Rich, Ed Shaughnessy and Mike Steinel. In the Fall of 1979, on September 14, Doug and Linda along with son Matt were blessed with the birth of twins, Mark David and Traci Liane.Doug received a call from Bethany College, his Alma Mater, asking if he would be interested in pursuing the position of Alumni Director. This was a position his Dad had held for many years at Bethany. Doug had always said that if the college ever needed him, he would be there to help. New Years Eve of 1987, the family packed up and headed to Lindsborg, KS. From 1988 to 1990, Doug served as Director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving organizing the Phone-a-Rama, the McPherson and Lindsborg Giving Campaigns, alumni gatherings throughout the state and U.S.A., served as the college faculty representative and President of the Lindsborg Chamber of Commerce for two terms. While serving as Alumni Director, he organized the clinic and concert by Maynard Ferguson and his band in Presser Hall. He received the Meredith Humphries Excellence in Teaching Award and was appointed Professor Emeritus of Music.In 1990, Doug was presented the opportunity to apply for the unexpected opening for Director of Bands for Smoky Valley High School. Missing teaching and directing, Doug was excited to be selected as the next Director of Bands for Smoky Valley High School which included all bands, music theory, and teaching a leadership class. The Symphonic Band was selected to represent Kansas in the Washington D.C. Festival of States with Governor Graves personally presenting a commendation certificate to the band. They performed at the Worlds of Fun band competition. The Marching Viking Band was selected as the Honor Band for Hyllningsfest and performed at half-time of the Bethany College Homecoming game. Doug coached the high school girls’ tennis team and middle school boys’ basketball team for the Smoky Valley school system.In 2000, Doug was excited to apply and be selected to be Director of Bands for his beloved alma mater, Bethany College. From 2000 to 2010, he directed the numerous bands, was a studio instructor and taught Secondary Music Education Methods to future music teachers. Doug was the student teacher supervisor, head of the music education program, recipient of the Donna Meredith Humphries Award for Teaching/Advisement and Guidance, and sponsor for the Associated Music Students of Bethany College. The Bethany Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform in Branson, MO, as the opening act for Puttin’ on the Ritz and Legends in Concert Shows. The Jazz Ensemble was also selected to be the opening act for opening day of the 50th Anniversary of Silver Dollar City. The Jazz Ensemble was selected to play in the “Rock the Boat Festivals at Sea” aboard the M.S. Fascination and also the “Music Festivals Bahamas Cruise Tour” aboard the Majesty of the Seas. While Director of Bands for Bethany he served as the Fine Arts Division Chair retiring in 2010.From 2010 to his passing, Doug served as an Adjunct Professor of Music Education for Bethany, was a KSDE Reviewer for Kansas College and University Music Education Programs and remained active as a guest clinician/director and adjudicator. Throughout his career, Doug was an active member of various musical associations including: National and State Educations Associations, Kansas Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC), Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kansas Bandmasters Association. Doug was a member and guest director for the Heart of America Concert Band from 1996-2014. Doug directed the Bethany All Star Jazz Band in 2016. In addition, Doug enjoyed other Lindsborg community musical involvement. The Trinity United Methodist Church choir singing and serving as music director for several years, being a member of the Salemsborg Lutheran Church choir, being a part of Broadway RFD as both a pit orchestra director and member and directing the Lindsborg Community 4th of July band from 1990-2016.Besides his love for God and his family, teaching music was Doug’s life passion and career. Along with music, his love for tennis and sharing his knowledge of the sport was just as important to him. Doug coached his kids and grand-kids. Doug was an important part of the coaching staff for Bethany College Tennis Camps for many years, where he also helped start a high school girls’ tennis camp. Doug ran the Lindsborg Affiliated Tennis Tournaments that began decades ago and continue today. He was the Lindsborg Recreation head tennis coach for many years and continued to serve as an assistant in recent years. Doug was co-founder of the Lindsborg Netters Junior Tennis Club. Doug was still coaching tennis to the youth of Smoky Valley until his passing. Doug was an avid follower and supporter of his grand-kids’ various activities and enjoyed helping them whenever they needed or asked for assistance.Survivors include his beloved wife and companion for over 54 years: Linda of the home; sons: Matt Talbott (Deb) of Ellsworth, KS and Mark (Serah) of Lindsborg, KS; daughter: Traci (Chris) of Lindsborg, KS: grandchildren: Danielle, Paige and Jaide Talbott, Ellsworth; Koltin Talbott, Eagle, CO; Gabriel and Ezekiel Baker, Lindsborg; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews plus countless friends.Cremation has been chosen. A Celebration of Life with light meal will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10 A.M. at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, 3831 W. Salemsborg Rd, Smolan, KS. Donald Kenneth Worley of Salina, KS passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2023, at the age of 89 after a long battle with cancer. Don was born on February 11, 1934, in Flint, MI, to Kenneth and Helen Worley.

Don attended Dye &amp; Linden High Schools in Michigan, graduating in 1951 and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.&nbsp; Donald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from August 30th, 1951, through August 29th, 1955, as an A &amp; E Flight Mechanic and had the honor of serving in the Korean War.&nbsp; After his service he completed pilot training and worked as an Aerial Sprayer and commercial pilot for 34 years in the West Memphis AR area.&nbsp; He also owned and operated Three Forks Outfitting in East Glacier Park MT from 1972-1982, and Three Forks Campground in East Glacier Park MT from 1972-2002.

Donald married Sharon Mae Conner on October 23rd, 1967, in Lubbock TX and they shared 56 years together. Don &amp; Sharon enjoyed many happy years living in East Glacier Park MT and Aransas Pass TX after Don’s retirement. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed restoring old tractors and spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping with family.&nbsp; Donald was honored to have his name placed on the National Air &amp; Space Museum Wall of Honor.

Donald was preceded in death by his sister Jean Spencer.

Donald is survived by his wife Sharon Worley, daughter Judy (Larry) Beck of Salina KS, son Kenneth (Renee Lawrence) Worley of Little Rock AR, brother Tim (Marie) Worley of Cedar Springs MI, grandchildren Donathan Blake Worley of Jacksonville AR, Stephanie (Dave) Miller of Little Rock AR, Christy Singer of Little Rock AR, Ken (Priscila) Beck of Abilene TX, and Sam Beck of Kansas City MO, great-granddaughter Audrey Miller of Little Rock AR along with many extended family members who will miss him dearly

James Gustave Cott, 95, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 with his loving family at his side. &nbsp;He was born April 11th, 1928 to Carl Gustave &amp; Bertha Minnie Martha Cott. &nbsp;He was raised on their family farm in Woodbine, KS with his two sisters Marietta &amp; Madeline.

He attended Pleasant Valley grade school, a rural one room school close to their farm. &nbsp;Then Woodbine high school his freshman year. &nbsp; In order to attend high school in Woodbine, Jim would ride his horse 5 miles one way. &nbsp;For his sophomore year his family moved one mile south of Lincolnville Kansas to their family farm. &nbsp;

In spring of 1953, Jim Cott met the love of his life Verla Mae Bernhart. &nbsp;Their lives were blessed in holy marriage, October 2nd 1953 at the Strassburg Baptist Church, located near the Marion Reservoir. &nbsp; They started their married life in a little rock house one mile south of Lincolnville, KS. &nbsp;There they raised four children; Alan (Alice) Cott of Celina, TX, Jani Cott of Salina KS, Ben (Judy) Cott of Goddard, KS &amp; Teresa (Tom) Drane of Salina KS. &nbsp; From these children their marriage was blessed with 15 grandchildren &amp; 25 great-grandchildren with two more on the way. &nbsp;

Jim &amp; Verla raised their family with strong faith and were active members of the Lincolnville United Methodist church. &nbsp;Their humble faith led to volunteering and sharing of the gifts that God had provided them. &nbsp; These gifts included Jim being a Lay speaker traveling to many area churches in the Tri-County area. &nbsp;He served on church &amp; school boards and was active in his community. &nbsp;

As Jim entered retirement, he answered a calling to open his life to compassionately loving others. &nbsp;This included entering the Big Brother program as one of the oldest Big Brothers at the time. &nbsp;Through this relationship he developed a cherished lifelong bond with his little brother. Hospice was another call answered in which he would come into homes of the dying, unselfishly giving of his time, love and understanding. &nbsp; &nbsp;Jim also had been blessed by entering into a lifelong friendship with a young man who had been confined to a wheelchair since childhood. &nbsp;This friendship was one of the most cherished relationships of his life! &nbsp;&nbsp;

As age progressed, Jim was facing 24-hour care due to weakness of body and entered into a Holiday Resort in June of 2022. &nbsp; While he was there, he developed many friendships with both his care providers and residents alike. &nbsp; He enters into the heavenly kingdom leaving an amazing example of what it is like to be a humble servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be Wednesday August 30th &nbsp;5:00 – 7:00 p.m. &nbsp;at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina KS. &nbsp;Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church Salina KS, August 31st 2023. &nbsp;Senior Pastor Gideon Achi officiating. &nbsp;Following a lunch at the church the family will progress to the Lincolnville Kansas cemetery for burial at 1:30 p.m.

Dung Le Nguyen beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, departed this world on August 26, 2023. Dung was born in Hue, Vietnam on February 10, 1939 to Tu Nguyen and Ut Truong. She was a talented seamstress and owner of a shop in Saigon, Vietnam. She and her family made a harrowing escape from Vietnam in 1976. After reaching the US, she and her family lived in New York City for a time before settling in Salina, KS permanently. She worked at Tony’s Pizza until her retirement in 1998.

Her life always centered around her faith and family. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and devoted much of her time to prayer. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and family gatherings.

Dung is preceded in death by her mother Ut Truong, father Tu Nguyen, brother Minh Nguyen, husband Niem Nguyen, son Dung Nguyen, .

Survivors include her brother Cong Nguyen (Huong Phan) of Atlanta, GA, Son Duong (wife of Minh Nguyen) of Salina, KS, son Joseph Nguyen (Julie) of Andover, KS and John Nguyen (Ashley) of Lenexa, KS and grandchildren Lucas, Alex and Scarlett.

Viewing and Visitation is Friday, September 1, 2023 from 10:00am - 1:00pm at Roselawn Memorial Chapel at 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, KS. Janis Ann Crow, 67, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023. Janis was born in Emporia, Kansas on August 6, 1956, a daughter of Velma Louise (Reed) and Hubert Adolph Erker. She worked for 30 years as a commercial electrician. Survivors include her sister, Michele Livesay (Michael), of Norman, Oklahoma; brother, Stacey Erker (Mary), of Salina, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Mandy Bonner, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Bailey Stanley (Hunter), of Coleman, Oklahoma; 1 great grandson on the way; and many extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeffrey Bonner; and her sister, Sharon Bryan. Cremation was chosen. Graveside services will take place at 9:00 am, Thursday, August 31st, at Prairie Mound Cemetery, Solomon, Kansas. John G. Mortimer&nbsp;passed away Friday, August 25, 2023, at Salina Regional Hospital. He was 90 years of age.

John was born to Carl G. and Lema W. (Welch) Mortimer.

He graduated from Gypsum Highschool with the class of 1951.&nbsp; He then spent 5 years as an equipment operator for Salina Sand Co. In the fall of 1956, John enrolled at his father’s alma mater, Kansas Wesleyan University. In 1960, he was hired to work at a local finance company. He served the company in Salina, KS before relocating to Wichita, KS and later Omaha, NE.

In 1961, while still working in Salina, John was set up on a blind date with Mary Jane Mason, of Kipp. They were later married, in October 1963 in Solomon, KS. Together they went back to Omaha, NE and shortly after made their way back to Salina, KS.

John retired from Security Savings in 1999, at the age of 66.After retirement, John, Mary Jane, her sister Lois and husband, Don, took a 10-day trip to Alaska. John often reminisced on his 3 summers spent in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Here, him and Mary Jane rented a beach house and enjoyed their time together with their family.

John was frequently found gloating about his family. He was a proud father and (great)grandfather. John is preceded in death by sisters Barbara (Glen) Meyer, Delores and Sharon Mortimer. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 incredible years, Mary Jane (Mason) Mortimer of Solomon; sister Karen (Mike) Moore of Newbern, NC; son Kevin (Sheila) Mortimer of Solomon; daughter Kara (Chris) Brady of Salina; granddaughters Brianna (Derek) Nielsen of Emporia; Emma and Caroline Brady of Salina and grandson Garrett (Sydney) Mortimer; as well as great grandsons Elliot, Graham, and Callen Nielsen of Emporia. John was also extremely excited to welcome another great grandson this winter.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm August 31, 2023 at Ryan Mortuary.

Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Weber as celebrant. &nbsp;

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Solomon.

John Mortimer

Donald Ralph Loader, residing in Salina, KS died Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Presbyterian Manor from Lewy Body Dementia.

Don was born August 2, 1940, in Salina, KS to Ralph and Mary Loader. He was always interested in Art &amp; Design. He grew up in the retail world with his first job working in Loader’s Market, his parents’ grocery store. &nbsp;

Don married Jean Nieman on August 30, 1969, in Salina. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Salina, KS and the Kansas City Art Institute, in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; Don was an Interior Designer and worked at Dwight Putnam Interiors, Stiefel’s Department Store, then opened Don Loader Interiors with his wife, Jean.&nbsp; He provided decorating services to North Central Kansas for more than 20 years.&nbsp; Don loved gardening, time in his swimming pool, martinis, entertaining, and convertibles. Don was a very loving person; he cherished his many friendships and time spent with his family. &nbsp;

Don is survived by his wife, Jean Loader, sons, Jim Loader (Michael Chambers), Jon Loader, and grandson, Stephen Loader.&nbsp; Additional survivors include his sister, Jane Belt (Jerry), nieces and nephews, Kathy Belt, Dan Belt (Pat) and family, Tom Belt (Angie) and family, and special cousin, Betty Yockers.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Loader, and infant son, Stephen Donald Loader.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 30th, at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud Street. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Mary’s All Purpose Room. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29th at Ryan Mortuary. The family will be available from 5-7 p.m. &nbsp;

Donald Ralph Loader

Eldon L. Demuth, 91, passed away on Aug. 18, 2023.&nbsp; Born Eldon Leon Demuth on Nov. 2, 1931, in rural Harper County, Okla., to May and Claude Demuth, he was the third child and eldest boy of six children. Eldon and his siblings grew up on a farm north of Rosston, where they rode to school in a homemade bus.

After graduating from Rosston High School in 1949, Eldon attended college for a year at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in March 1951. After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and auto mechanics training at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo., Eldon was stationed at an air base in Niigata, Japan, until March 1954.

After returning to the U.S., Eldon finished his military duty at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah. Ga. He was honorably discharged in March 1955.

Eldon moved to Wichita, Kansas and was hired at Beech Aircraft where he worked in the aircraft spare parts warehouse before being promoted to an office job taking parts orders from distributors. He worked for the company for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1994.

On April 27, 1957, Eldon married Rozella Lindley of Wichita. The couple had one son, Gary, in 1958. They divorced in 1983 and Rozella died in 1986. Eldon married Patty Post of Salina on Sept. 3, 1983, adding a stepson, Sam, and stepdaughter, Denise, to his family.

After retirement, Eldon and Patty moved to Salina, where Eldon worked part-time in the maintenance department of Sunflower Bank and as a door greeter at Conklin Cars.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Wilma, Thelma and Shirley, and wife Patty. He is survived by brothers Merlin (June) Demuth of Bartlesville, Okla., and David (Darlene) Demuth of Bixby, Okla., sons Gary (Marcia) Demuth and Sam (DeeDee) Eslick of Salina, and daughter Denise (Scott) Russell of Chapman. He has eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Eldon L. Demuth

Wilma was born on April 9, 1930 to William P. Miller and Katherine M. (Haag) Miller as the second to the youngest of 13 children on a farm in Lyon County, Kansas. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after saying her nightly prayers on August 14, 2023. Wilma is so beloved, as many were drawn to her smile, sincerity and fast pace.

Wilma grew up gardening and raising chickens to help feed her family during the Great Depression and World War II. She disliked chickens to this day, but loved her pony, Diamond. When going to school, Wilma rode on her big brother's shoulders and carried hot boiled eggs in her hands to keep them warm during the snowy winter.

After being crowned “May Queen,” Wilma married her high school sweetheart, Charles Richard (Dick) Gerleman, in Olpe, Kansas on June 24, 1950. Together, they shared 63 beautiful years of love, marriage, dancing and happiness. Wilma was at his side when he went to be with our Lord on April 25, 2013.

In the early 1950s, Wilma and Dick moved to Belleville, Kansas, where Dick worked with Metropolitan Life Insurance and Wilma was a stay-at-home mother who raised their four children, Bruce W. and Dr. Brent F. Gerleman (Angie) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Brenda M. Gerleman and Barbara K. Autry of Wichita. In 1961, Dick was promoted to agency manager and the family moved to Salina, where Wilma enjoyed the many amenities of big city life; dancing, fashion, friends and family filled Wilma’s days.

Her Catholic faith was always paramount in her life. Wilma became very involved with Saint Mary’s Church and Elementary School and Sacred Heart High School. She and Dick made regular trips to Olpe to help their parents. As her children grew older, Wilma began a career at Salina Sears in the women’s fashion department. Her class and gift for detail and design on a budget quickly caught the eye of customers and colleagues. Over the next 30 years, she enjoyed nurturing and guiding women and girls; she was respected and remembered for years after she retired.

Wilma was an accomplished artist across many mediums. She was best known for the various stages of her beautiful oil paintings, ranging from wildlife, flowers, sceneries, still-life, abstract and more. She took great pride in her home, cultivating cleanliness and green thumbs across her family. She was a deeply committed matriarch, who loved being serenaded by her children and grandchildren and never napped.

Wilma and Dick cherished Catholic education and all four of their children were educated in Catholic schools. Following high school, all four children attended Wichita State University, where Bruce played football, Brenda and Barbie were Shockettes and Brent graduated from WSU/KU medical school with honors. Her pride in their successes and in the success of the Knights and Shockers was never-ending, as they traveled all over the country to support the schools and their children. At WSU, she was lovingly referred to as “Team Mom.” Her beauty and sweet words of encouragement inspired many Shockers to greatness and she was honored with a stone on the WSU Plaza of Heroines.

Throughout their marriage, Wilma and Dick traveled our country and the world. They saved up to take their children on frequent vacations. Later in life, Wilma enjoyed her fall trips to New England, visits to Seattle to see her sisters Geneva and Kathryn, time in the deserts of Arizona with Jim and Joyce Hill, adventures in Carmel with the Gerlemans, and many trips to Florida where the Fontainebleau was her favorite dancing place. Their highlights together included Hawaii, Alaska and over a dozen countries across Europe. She prayed in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and St. Francis’s Basilica in Assisi with her four children, visited Dick’s forefathers in the namesake of her hometown, Olpe, Germany, and explored her ancestors’ country in Alsace Lorraine.

Wilma never forgot her hometown of Olpe, Kansas. With Dick, she gave generous gifts to establish the original endowment for St. Joseph’s Catholic School and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Wilma will be buried in that cemetery on Friday August 25th at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to those endowments.

Wilma is survived by her four children, six grandchildren who knew her as “Nanie” (Grant, Gretchen, Anna, Jeb, McKenzie and Max) and three great grandchildren (Graham, Drake and Meyer). Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers (Bert, Christian, Leonard, Francis and Bill), sisters (Clara, Louise, Bernadine, Helen, Eileen, Geneva and Kathryn) and granddaughter Margo.

Marjorie C. Andrews, 93, of Salina, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023.&nbsp; She was born May 17, 1930, in Beaver, to Joseph and Catharine Zorn.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and worked for Tony’s Pizza. &nbsp;

Survivors include her son, J.D. Andrews, of Iowa; Veryl Andrews, of Hedville; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons; three brothers; and one sister.

Private graveside will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Peggy Joyce Scott of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on August 24, 2023, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was 89 years old.

Born on December 3, 1933, in Milledgeville, Georgia, Peggy was the daughter of Samuel Arthur Evans and Clara Belle (Worsham) Evans. She grew up in Milledgeville and graduated from Peabody High School.

Peggy dedicated 23 years of her life to serving others as a receptionist/clerk at McPherson Floral. Her friendly nature and attention to detail touched the lives of countless customers who sought joy through beautiful flowers. She truly valued the importance of bringing smiles to people's faces during both moments of celebration and times of sorrow.

She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Peggy's greatest role was that of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She married the love of her life Carrol "Scotty" E. Scott, and together they built a remarkable life full of love, laughter, and shared experiences. Peggy cherished their union of 57 years until his passing on February 25, 2011. Peggy is survived by her beloved daughter, Patricia "Trish" Scott of McPherson, Kansas. Trish provided endless love and support to her mother until the very end. In addition to Trish, Peggy's grandchildren, Chris Swick of Manhattan, KS and Rebecca (Matthew) Sanchelli of Overland Park, KS, were the light of her life and held a very special place in her heart. She adored them beyond measure and cherished every moment spent together. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Harold (Wanda) Scott of McPherson, KS; and many loyal &amp; faithful friends. Peggy's family was the center of her world.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Gary Scott; a brother, Lamar Cullens; and sister, Debbie Clance.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at McPherson Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Lynn Scott officiating.

Memorial donations may be given to the First Christian Church or Hospice of Reno County (for the Hospice House) in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Joyce Eileen (Boatright) Hemphill, 80, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Eileen was born February 14, 1943 in Junction City, Kansas.&nbsp; The daughter of Lawrence M. and Beatrice (Deines) Boatright.&nbsp; Lawrence worked in the oil fields in central Kansas so they moved around during her childhood.&nbsp; She graduated from Russell High School in the Class of ’61.

Eileen was united in marriage to Earl M. Hemphill on September 2, 1962 in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children; Larry, James and Audra.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; Earl preceded her in death on April 11, 2002.

Eileen was a devoted wife and homemaker for her children.&nbsp; She did odd jobs throughout her life and really enjoyed running auto parts for Dean’s Auto Repair.&nbsp; She was an active member of the Bible Baptist Church.&nbsp; She also was a member of the Fire Fighters Ladies Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals.&nbsp; She also loved attending her grandchildren’s events.

Eileen’s surviving family include her two sons; Larry Hemphill (Bethena) of Gypsum, Kansas and James M. Hemphill of Russell, Kansas; her daughter, Audra McCall (Keith) of Florida; two sisters, Diana Boxberger (Ron) of Russell, Kansas and Deloris Wegele (Allen) of Concho, Arizona; sister-in-law, Andy Martin of Clyde, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and husband Earl.

Robert Allen Thomas, 75, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at North Central Kansas Medical Center.&nbsp;Robert was born November 30, 1947, to Murrell E. and Helen W. (Cox) Thomas in Concordia. He grew up and attended schools in Concordia before joining the United States Air Force in 1967. Robert proudly served for four years. After his honorable discharge, Robert worked many different jobs but was a long-time truck driver and always called Concordia home.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and attending Sturgis for several years.&nbsp;

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Fisher; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Ginger Thomas; infant brother, Charles.&nbsp;

Survivors include Brian Kieffer and his wife of Haysville, Bradley Kieffer of Arkansas City, Jean Kincaid and her husband of Missouri, Joan Kieffer of Arkansas City, Jeremy Thomas and his wife of Mulvane, Amy Eickleberry of North Carolina, and numerous great nephews and great nieces.

Visitation&nbsp;will be Sunday August 27, 2023 from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at Nutter Mortuary.

Rodney was born in Garden City, Kansas on July 31, 1949, a son of the late Virginia "Ginger" B. (Martin) and Herbert "Dutch" Henry Helzer. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, he also loved all kinds of car racing, collecting coins, and spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Survivors include his two daughters, Tanya Landers (Daniel), of El Dorado, Kansas, Haley Helzer, of Salina, Kansas; sons, Eric Helzer, of Concordia, Kansas, Troy Helzer, of Salina, Kansas; bonus son, Steven Helzer, of Salina, Kansas; grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Christina, Jessica, Kale, Shya, Colton, Baylee, Shyanne, Haven, Blake; and great granddaughter, Sophia. Rodney Lynn Helzer

Father Melvin Long was born August 7, 1940, in New Almelo. He died on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

Father Long’s parents were Andrew and Regina (Otter) Long. He attended grade school at St. John’s in Beloit, graduated from St. Francis Seminary High School in Victoria, St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota, as well as the American Theological Seminary at University of Louvain in Belgium.

He was ordained June 18, 1966, at St. John the Baptist in Beloit by Bishop Cyril Vogel.

One of the most notable accomplishments during Father Long’s ministry was founding St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Salina in 1981. Father Long led the project, building the parish from the ground up. The parish today is served by Father Keith Weber and has 684 families as regular parishioners. As the parish was being built, Father Long celebrated Mass in some very interesting places, including the movie theater!

Father Long’s priestly ministry included teaching positions at Marymount College, Bethany College and Cloud County Community College, but he was also called to minister in Europe. Father Long spent his seminary years in Belgium at the American Theological Seminary at University of Louvain. After his ordination, he was called back to Belgium to serve as a faculty member in 1973 and later served as leadership in the 1990s.

When Father Long retired in 2002, he moved to California due to health complications. However, his priestly ministry did not stop there. He filled in at parishes across the country so that other priests could take extended sabbaticals. He also was a part of the “Apostleship of the Sea of the United States of America” and did some cruise ship ministry for several years.

In the May 2016 issue of <a href="https://salinadiocese.org/news-and-updates/father-melvin-long-obituary/">The Register</a>, Father Long stated, “I love ministry, and I love people. That’s why I’ve continued (ministering) beyond retirement on a regular basis.”&nbsp; He also fondly recalled the many friendships he still maintained from his years serving in the Diocese of Salina.

1988-90: Pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Hays

1990-92: Executive Vice President for Development of American College at the Catholic University of Louvain, working from Washington D.C.

1992-93: Interim President/Rector of American College at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium

1993-1995: Executive Vice President of American College at the Catholic University of Louvain, working from Washington D.C.

Fr. Melvin Long

Genevieve “Jenny” Anna Jones, age 96 entered into rest on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born in Republic County, Kansas on March 8, 1927 to Irvin and Mary (Dunphy) Hockman.

Jenny was a 1945 graduate of Clyde High School, Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She went on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.

Jenny taught all eight grades in country schools, north of Clyde.&nbsp;&nbsp;She also taught school at all the air bases where David was stationed.

Genevieve married, David Jones on Feb. 6, 1954 in Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Genevieve and David lived in California, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Arkansas, and Texas, during his service in the US Air Force.&nbsp;&nbsp;After Davd’s retirement they moved back to Clyde and Jenny taught the second grade at Clyde until her retirement.

Jenny enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, painting, and most of all spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, CDA, VFW Women’s Aux., and Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators.

Genevieve is survived by her sister, JoAnne Balthazor, Clyde, KS; sister-in-law, Martha Jones, Newington, NH and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces &amp; great nephews and a community of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband David, parents, Irvin and Mary, a brother, Arthur Hockman, and sister, Gloria Naillieux.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Thursday., August 24, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Chaput Mortuary from 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m..&nbsp;&nbsp;Family will receive friends after the Rosary Service.

 </figure>Genevieve “Jenny” Anna Jones, age 96 entered into rest on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born in Republic County, Kansas on March 8, 1927 to Irvin and Mary (Dunphy) Hockman.Jenny was a 1945 graduate of Clyde High School, Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She went on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.Jenny taught all eight grades in country schools, north of Clyde.&nbsp;&nbsp;She also taught school at all the air bases where David was stationed.Genevieve married, David Jones on Feb. 6, 1954 in Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Genevieve and David lived in California, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Arkansas, and Texas, during his service in the US Air Force.&nbsp;&nbsp;After Davd’s retirement they moved back to Clyde and Jenny taught the second grade at Clyde until her retirement.Jenny enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, painting, and most of all spending time with her family.She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, CDA, VFW Women’s Aux., and Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators.Genevieve is survived by her sister, JoAnne Balthazor, Clyde, KS; sister-in-law, Martha Jones, Newington, NH and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces &amp; great nephews and a community of friends.She was preceded in death by her husband David, parents, Irvin and Mary, a brother, Arthur Hockman, and sister, Gloria Naillieux.Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Thursday., August 24, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will follow at Mt.
