Gilbert Arthur Green was born December 7, 1928 to Art and Maureen Green in Waterville, Kansas. He died March 18, 2024 in Abilene, Kansas. After graduating from high school, Gil served in the Air Force at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas for four years and met his wife Marjorie.He graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in Education and went on to his first teaching job at Herington Junior High in Herington, Kansas where he was a health and PE teacher as well as a coach.Gil moved to Abilene, Kansas where he taught and retired from Abilene Middle School after 35 years. He coached football, basketball and track. He also had a long career of refereeing volleyball, basketball and football, receiving an honor for 50 years in 2018.In the summer months, Gil was Camp Manager at Camp Mary Dell in Abilene.He was married to Marge Green for 68 years and had three children. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Nancy Hawley (Michael) of San Diego, CA and Lori Schartz of Wichita, KS.They have four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the Abilene First United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 A.M., until service time. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. The family suggests memorial be given to USD 435/AMS for the Abilene Middle School/Sports Program.
