Charles “Charlie” Montgomery, 89, died March 14, 2024, at Hester Care Center. He was born November 23, 1934, in Hutchinson, to Jacob and Ruth (Wilson) Montgomery.

Charlie graduated from Hutchinson High School. He went on to serve in the United States Army. Charlie worked for Phillips News for 35 years, eventually becoming the vice president. He then worked for 20 years as a truck driver for Arrow Trucking. In his younger years, Charlie loved to go bowling and was very good at it, he was even offered an opportunity to bowl professionally. Later in life, he and his wife Genny enjoyed playing golf together. Charlie also enjoyed woodworking and pheasant hunting, which was a family affair and opening day was treated as a holiday. He was a member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.

On August 30, 1962, Charlie married Genevieve “Genny” Shull in Dighton. She passed away September 24, 2018.

He is survived by: children, Diana Loveall, Salina, Doug Wallace, Topeka, Darlene Friesen, Hutchinson, Denise Frye (Randy), Hutchinson, Darcy Boor (Mark), Salina; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. 

Charlie was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; four sisters; and son-in-law, Mickey Loveall. 

Memorial service will be 1 pm  Saturday, April 6, 2024, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church. Private burial will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park at a later date. Friends may sign the book daily from 9 am to 5 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
