Jeanie Kay Kirby

Jeanie Kay Kirby, 74, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born on February 4, 1950, in Kinsley, KS, the daughter of Clay Edward and Bessie M. (Berry) Korte. Her mother passed away during childbirth, so, she was raised by her father and step-mother, Clay & Emma Irene Korte. Jeanie graduated from McPherson High School in 1968 and continued her education at cosmetology school. On June 28, 1969, Jeanie was united in marriage to Larry James Kirby at the McPherson Church of the Nazarene. Jeanie and Larry met at the skating rink in McPherson. This union was blessed with two sons, Chris and Corey.
Jeanie most recently worked as a desk attendant at the McPherson Senior Center. Prior to the McPherson Senior Center, she was a paraprofessional for U.S.D. 418, a job where she thoroughly enjoyed working with the students. She was also a sales clerk at Poor John’s Appliance.
She has been a longtime member of McPherson Free Methodist Church and the Sweet Adelines International. Jeanie loved her family and enjoyed celebrating each and every holiday. From attending her boys’ events to teaching them how to cook, she loved being their mom. Among her hobbies, she often was found crocheting, quilting, and sewing blankets and purses. She enjoyed watching her favorite soap opera, Days of Our Lives. She had a wonderful relationship with her parents and was considered a “daddy’s girl.” She often reminisced of times camping at Kanopolis Lake. Jeanie loved everyone and developed friendships with people of all ages.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Larry of the home; two sons, Chris Kirby and Corey Kirby, both of El Paso, AR; a grandson, Dylan Zahn (Kim) of Hutchinson, KS; a brother, Gary Korte of Haviland, KS; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay & Bessie Korte, and step-mother, Emma Korte.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 5, 2024, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Dallas Burgeson officiating.
