Gayle Ann Rush June 28, 1953 ~ November 29, 2023

Gayle Ann Rush, 70, of Salina, Kan., passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023. She was born June 28, 1953, in Salina, to Jerry and Ruth (Breitweiser) Self.

Gayle loved the beach and collecting seashells. She was a master gardener, avid bridge player and enjoyed volunteering at Salina Regional Health Center gift shop for many years.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jerry, and niece, Wendy Muhlberger.

Survivors include her mother, Ruth; sons, Matthew Storrer, of Salina, and Jonathan Rush (fiancé Kiara Espada), of McPherson; siblings, Dennis Self (Angie), of Salina, and Marie Self, of Aurora, Colo.; foster sister, Debbie Elliot, of Tega Cay, S.C. (and family); and nephew, Jason Self, of Kingwood, Texas.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina, with burial at 2 p.m. in Naomi Cemetery,&nbsp;1451 170 Rd, Glen Elder, Kan., 67446.

Memorials may be made to the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation and sent in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Jessie Louise Huff Cauthorn August 9, 1981 ~ December 1, 2023

Jessie Louise Huff Cauthorn reached the age of 42 years, 3 months, and 22 days, and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, December 1, 2023. February 15, 2023, she was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer, and Jessie showed an incredible amount of strength and determination.

She was born in McPherson, KS on August 9, 1981, weighing 3 pounds and 12.5 ounces, to Donald J. and Denise (Coy) Huff. She was a fighter from birth.&nbsp; Jessie attended the McPherson schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 2000.

She was a devoted, loving mama to Morgan and Hunter, her pride and joy. She was formerly married to Jacob Cauthorn, the father of her children.&nbsp; She also held a special place in the hearts of her nephews, Brayden, Kelley, Craigg, and Nathen Blankenship.

Jessie held various jobs, but her passion was working with the public, and most recently, she owned and operated Aunt J’s daycare.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jessie enjoyed making memories with her children, camping, going to Winfield Bluegrass Festivals, and collecting frogs.&nbsp; She thoroughly enjoyed hosting family gatherings with Fourth of July being one of her favorites.&nbsp; Her family will dearly miss her quick-witted personality.

Jessie is survived by her children, Morgan and Hunter Cauthorn; parents, Donald and Denise Huff; sister, Katie Blankenship (Chris); her nephews, Brayden, Kelley, Craigg, and Nathen Blankenship; chosen sister, Amy Anderson (Wes); grandmother, Karen Coy; and many extended relatives and friends.

Jessie was predeceased by grandparents, Robert Coy and James “Jim” &amp; Edith Huff, cousin, Karrie Huff Dooley, and her Baby Dog.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the First Christian Church.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 8, at the First Christian Church with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Jessie’s wish was that anyone who has a Team Jessie/cancer shirt wear it to her service or any comfortable attire.

Darrell Genereux, 80, entered into rest on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Park Villa in Clyde, KS. He was born on August 5, 1943, in Concordia, KS to Arthur &amp; Vivian L. (Caywood) Genereux. Darrell graduated from Agenda High School. He married Bernita Glenn in 1965, Audrey Rickley in 1971, both preceding him in death in 1970 and 2017 respectively. He married Marie Hopson in 2018. He held degrees from Kansas State Teachers College and Kansas State University. Darrell was a lifelong educator serving in many school districts including Concordia, Marysville, and Cuba. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends. After retirement he found more time to travel and was very active in the Serendipity Sams camping group.

Thomas L. Walsh August 16, 1938 ~ November 21, 2023

Thomas L. “Tom” Walsh, 85, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in Lincoln, KS. He was born August 16, 1938 in La Junta, CO to Leonard and Louise (McCreery) Walsh. They moved to Garden City, KS in 1948. While attending school, Tom excelled in playing baseball for the Garden City Junior Legion. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1957. After Graduation Tom enlisted in the United States Navy. He was based in San Diego California for boot camp. He served out his duty as Machinist Mate which took him throughout the Pacific, from 1957 to 1961. He was stationed in Japan and Hawaii among other places.

Tom married Barbara Flynn in Garden City, KS on April 7, 1962. During their time in Garden City they welcomed two daughters, Kim and Laura, to the family. He worked for Sunflower Electric for nearly 40 years, retiring as a Chief Systems Operator. Tom and Barbara moved to Wilson Lake in 1999 to enjoy their retirement together.

Tom’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Tom enjoyed swapping stories and watching NASCAR in his workshop at the lake.

Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara Walsh of Wilson Lake along with two daughters, Kimberley Deitz of Shell Rock, IA and Laura Walsh of Garden City; grandsons, Caleb Crocker of Wamego, KS and Thomas Turpin (Timberly) of Garden City; great-granddaughter Emilly Crocker; brothers, David Walsh of Grand Rapids, MI and Bill Walsh (Anita) of Beloit, KS; and sister Karen Boxler (Wayne) of Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Alice Walsh.

There will be a celebration of Tom’s life February 10, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the family home at Wilson Lake.

Ernest E. Wilkins March 17, 1927 ~ November 29, 2023

Ernest Edwin (Ernie) Wilkins passed away at Stormont Vail Flint Hills Hospital, in Junction City Kansas, on November 29, 2023. Ernie was born March 17, 1927 in rural Chapman, Kansas to Bertram and Franklin Irene (Sims) Wilkins. Ernie attended local schools but was drafted into the U.S. Army his senior year of high school. Ernie served in the Pacific theatre during WWII. He served in China, Korea and the Philippines.

Upon his return to Kansas, Ernie continued his education and graduated from Kansas College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, now Kansas State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry. Following his graduation he began a long career with the Kansas Department of Transportation. He was proud to be involved with the very early stages of the construction of I-70 in Kansas. He was a skilled Artisan in the making of Stained-Glass pieces of art. Ernie was also a Scout Leader for his sons and loved to travel. He’s been a devout Methodist and has taught Sunday School and the Alpha course in the past.

Ernie married Lillian (Carlson) Weik, to this union two sons were born. Larry E. Wilkins of Gardner, Kansas and James D Wilkins (Donna) of Manhattan, Kansas. Ernie is survived by his sons, and his grandchildren Donovan Weik, Michael Allen and Jason Allen. Ernie also has 4 great-grandchildren. Ernie was preceded in death by his wife Lillian, and his second wife Delores Kay (Olson) Wilkins. Also preceding Ernie in death were his brothers Gaylord Wilkins and Howard Wilkins as well as his sister Francis Hill.

Ernie’s Grandfather and Uncle were some of the first settlers in the Chapman area in 1870. They emigrated from Marnhull England, and were Stonemasons by trade.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Chapman United Methodist Church 426 N. Sheeran Chapman, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials be given to Chapman Valley Manor or Chapman United Methodist Church and may be left at the time of service or mailed to the Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel PO Box 411 Chapman, Kansas 67431.

Ernest E. Wilkins

Dewey Dale Wearne April 14, 1959 ~ November 26, 2023

It is with a heavy heart we must announce the passing of Dewey Dale Wearne on Sunday, November 26, 2023.&nbsp; Dewey was born April 14, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Bruce Webster Wearne and Georgia Belle Fleming. Growing up in an old schoolhouse and on a farm offered him skills that he applied throughout his life.&nbsp;

After high school, Dewey moved to Colorado. There, he found a career with Colorado State University in the facilities department. He enjoyed the many different tasks that it offered him. He also enjoyed raising his children Stephanie, Chase and Kimberly in Colorado. Their childhoods were packed with fishing trips, four-wheeler rides and the often “ride” in the new to him old car that he had traded for.&nbsp;

Dewey loved old and fast cars. He always had a project and a show car to show off. Some of the kids’ fondest memories included driving the ’64 Mustang, ’56 Belair, ’70 Camaro, ’29 Model A and ’64 Falcon. Before retirement, the family was able to live by a lake where every opportunity was seized to take the boat out for some all-day fishing trips with friends. If not on the lake, then he could be spotted on the golf course with friends. You see, Dewey was able to make friends with anyone. His welcoming “howdy” was a known trait regardless if you were a friend or stranger.&nbsp;

After 24 years with the University, Dewey retired to Wellington, Colorado. After some time, he picked up and moved to Elberta, Alabama. Of course, this was to spend more time on the water doing what he loved. After cleaning out all the great fishing holes, he and Marta picked up and moved to McPherson, Kansas to look after her mother. While it was not close to the lake, he enjoyed fixing up the next project car and playing the guitar.&nbsp;

Dewey is survived by Marta Wray, his children Stephanie Wearne &amp; Nick McGovern, Chase Wearne &amp; Kristine Frey and Kimberly and Brian Boydstun; his siblings Patricia &amp; John Wheeler, Marcia &amp; Don Biedermann, Jim “Jaime” &amp; Mary Pat Wearne and Debbie “Sheg” Wearne &amp; Dan Hoffarth; his grandchildren Brooklynn, Elizabeth, Jaxson, Abigail, Benjamin &amp; Rachel.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents Bruce &amp; Georgia Wearne. He will be missed.

 </figure>Dewey Dale Wearne April 14, 1959 ~ November 26, 2023It is with a heavy heart we must announce the passing of Dewey Dale Wearne on Sunday, November 26, 2023.&nbsp; Dewey was born April 14, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Bruce Webster Wearne and Georgia Belle Fleming. Growing up in an old schoolhouse and on a farm offered him skills that he applied throughout his life.&nbsp;After high school, Dewey moved to Colorado. There, he found a career with Colorado State University in the facilities department. He enjoyed the many different tasks that it offered him. He also enjoyed raising his children Stephanie, Chase and Kimberly in Colorado. Their childhoods were packed with fishing trips, four-wheeler rides and the often “ride” in the new to him old car that he had traded for.&nbsp;Dewey loved old and fast cars. He always had a project and a show car to show off. Some of the kids’ fondest memories included driving the ’64 Mustang, ’56 Belair, ’70 Camaro, ’29 Model A and ’64 Falcon. Before retirement, the family was able to live by a lake where every opportunity was seized to take the boat out for some all-day fishing trips with friends. If not on the lake, then he could be spotted on the golf course with friends. You see, Dewey was able to make friends with anyone. His welcoming “howdy” was a known trait regardless if you were a friend or stranger.&nbsp;After 24 years with the University, Dewey retired to Wellington, Colorado. After some time, he picked up and moved to Elberta, Alabama. Of course, this was to spend more time on the water doing what he loved. After cleaning out all the great fishing holes, he and Marta picked up and moved to McPherson, Kansas to look after her mother. While it was not close to the lake, he enjoyed fixing up the next project car and playing the guitar.&nbsp;Dewey is survived by Marta Wray, his children Stephanie Wearne &amp; Nick McGovern, Chase Wearne &amp; Kristine Frey and Kimberly and Brian Boydstun; his siblings Patricia &amp; John Wheeler, Marcia &amp; Don Biedermann, Jim “Jaime” &amp; Mary Pat Wearne and Debbie “Sheg” Wearne &amp; Dan Hoffarth; his grandchildren Brooklynn, Elizabeth, Jaxson, Abigail, Benjamin &amp; Rachel.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents Bruce &amp; Georgia Wearne. Bruce Alan Faust November 12, 1947 ~ November 26, 2023

Bruce Alan Faust, 76, of Overbrook, KS passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the V.A. Hospital in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; He was born November 12, 1947 on the family farm in rural Overbrook, KS. He was the first child of Ira Junior Faust and Dorothy Jean (Rice) Faust. He went to Twin Mound, a one-room schoolhouse in Douglas County through 8th grade and graduated from Overbrook Rural High School with the class of 1965.

Bruce joined the United States Air Force in 1966 and served four years for our country, including two tours in Vietnam. He was discharged in May 1970. He also served in the Kansas Air National Guard from September 1973 until October 1979.

He was united in marriage to Pamala Bagby on September 4, 1971 at the United Methodist Church in Overbrook.&nbsp; They shared over fifty-two years of marriage.

Bruce was employed for several years at the Kansas Department of Transportation. He then bought and operated Bob’s Service Station in Overbrook in August 1979 until 1984. He went on to work at T.A.R.C. for thirteen years before becoming a truck driver for Lowes in Topeka. He finished his work career at the Topeka Public Schools, U.S.D. 501 as a truck driver.&nbsp;

Bruce was an avid and skilled outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and reloading his own ammunition. As a retiree, he was frequently seen riding his electric scooter accompanied by his trustworthy dog trotting beside him all around town and the city lake.

He was a 58-year member of The American Legion Anderson-Raible Post 239 and a lifetime member of National Rifle Association.

Mr. Faust was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Dorothy Faust.

He is survived by his wife, Pamala of the home; a son, Alan Faust of Overbrook; two brothers, Bernie Faust and his wife, Linda of rural Overbrook and Brian Faust of San Jose, CA; a sister, Janet Faust and her husband, Fred Dimick of Berryton; and his mother-in-law, Phyllis Bagby of Overbrook: plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is planning a private inurnment at Twin Mound Cemetery in Douglas County, KS, followed with a Celebration of Bruce’s life at a later date. Bruce A. Faust

Merle Raymond McLaren,94, of Hays, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, in Hays. He was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., to David and Blanche (Beique) McLaren.

On Jan. 16, 1954, he married Betty Lou Schemm in Wichita. They celebrated 67 years together before her passing on Oct. 14, 2021. Merle left school at 16 years old to help take care of the family after his dad passed but did continue his education later in life ending with a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University.

He later joined the U.S. Air Force and retired after 23 years of service to his country. His service included both Korea and Vietnam in which he received numerous accommodations, including a Bronze Star.

He owned McLaren Lincoln-Mercury-GMC in Hays for 18 years and was one of the original business owners to push for expansion north of I-70. Merle was a member of the Hays VFW and an active member of the Honor Guard. He received a Quilt of Valor. He was chosen as Hays All-American Citizen in 2018, but his greatest joy was family and taking care of his grandkids.

Betty L. (Schemm) McLaren, 87, of Hays, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born March 21, 1934, in WaKeeney, the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Schwien) Schemm. Betty was a homemaker and a selfless mother. Her primary concern in life was always the welfare of her family.

She loved people in general and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Trego High School, WaKeeney. Her husband, Merle, was a career member of the USAF, and together with their growing family traveled to many areas of the free world.

Survivors include their children, Terrence K. McLaren and wife, Carla, Cape Coral, Fla.; Laurie A. Johnson and husband, Kris, Hawaii; Debra A. McLaren, Hays; Erin P. Filbert, Ness City; Nita M. Tan and husband Mark, Moore, Okla.; Daniel J. McLaren and wife, Lisa, Hays; Michael J. McLaren and wife, Arlena, Baldwin City; Eva M. Parrott and husband. Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Schemm. Together Merle and Betty were preceded in death by two sons, Sean, and Joel; a daughter, Keri; a grandchild, Desirae and a son-in-law Myron Filbert. A combined celebration of life service for Merle and Betty will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, with memorial visitation from 1:30 until service time at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

Sue Ann (Atkinson) Zeller August 8, 1962 ~ November 18, 2023

Sue Ann (Atkinson) Zeller, 61, passed away on November 18, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

Sue was born August 8, 1962 to Allen "Lee" and Joan (Reiff) Atkinson in Abilene, KS. She was the youngest of five children. Sue graduated from Abilene High School in 1980. She was married to John Zeller on September 23, 1989, and they were blessed with two daughters: August and Alexa. They raised their family in Clay Center, KS.

Sue's work history included&nbsp;working in payroll at Hutchinson-Mayrath (17 years), C&amp;R Credit Union, and Scott Specialties, all in Clay Center. She then moved back to Abilene and worked at West's Country Mart until her retirement. Sue was an avid reader and loved to sew and make quilts for her family.&nbsp;

Sue is survived by John Zeller of Morganville, daughter August Zeller (Michael Clark) of Clay Center, daughter Alexa Zeller (Joel Shuler) of Salina, her mother Joan Atkinson of Chapman, brother Rod Atkinson (Connie) of Abilene, brother Mark Atkinson of Panama, brother in law Bill Gillespie of Abilene, her eight grandchildren: Paxton, Aeryn, Anders, Macy, Adrian, Etta, Ada, and Miles as well as many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Lee Atkinson, brother C.J. Atkinson, and sister Cindy Gillespie.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held&nbsp;Friday, December 8, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, with Mr. Kelly Cooper officiating. The family has selected cremation, and a private family burial will take place at a later date.

Leah Annette Russell July 25, 1938 ~ November 18, 2023

Leah Annette Russell, 85, of Fostoria, OH passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023. Leah was born July 25, 1938 in Lindsborg, KS to the late Arthur and the late Vivian (Nelson) Rasmussen.  

Leah was a high school graduate and attended some college.  She worked as a Certified Nurses Aid and Certified Medication Aid at Bethany Home, in Lindsborg for many years.

She is survived by her daughters: Mary Smith of Bettsville, OH and Kimberly S. Stienmetz of Bettsville, OH;  brothers: Marion Rasmussen of Stockton, CA, Marvin Rasmussen of Walnut Creek, CA; as well as 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Leah is preceded in death by her parents and her brother: Arthur L. Rasmussen.

The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 29 at Marquette United Methodist Church, 404 W 2nd, Marquette, KS with Pastor Brenda Hogan officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg on Wednesday, November 29 at 10:00 am.

Mildred "Millie" Wikoff July 20, 1929 ~ November 24, 2023

Mildred “Millie” Wikoff, age 94, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023, at her home in Salina, KS. Born on July 20, 1929, in Ellsworth, KS, she was united in marriage to Grant Wikoff on November 15, 1952. Together they raised a daughter, Sandi (Wikoff) Harper, and welcomed the arrival of their precious granddaughter, Kolbi Harper.&nbsp; &nbsp;

“Millie,” as she was known to her family and many friends, was a waitress and hostess at the Brookville Hotel for over 20 years before dedicating her life to raising her daughter and supporting Grant on their ranch.&nbsp; She later returned to work at the Brookville Mercantile after Sandi was grown. &nbsp;

Millie’s greatest joy in life was spending time with family, especially her daughter, granddaughter, and special niece Nancy. Their weekend shopping trips to Kansas City were filled with laughter and many special memories. In her later years, Millie enjoyed traveling with her sister-in-law Helen, and together they embarked on many adventures, enjoying the beauty of the backroads of Kansas, and venturing on tours across the country. &nbsp;

Millie was preceded in death by her husband Grant. She is survived by her daughter Sandi and husband Brent Harper, granddaughter Kolbi Harper, and niece Nancy Rousseau.

Services celebrating Millie’s life will be held at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Street, Salina, Kansas. Visitation will be Friday, December 1st, from 5 to 7 p.m. and funeral service on Saturday, December 2nd at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Carneiro Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Rolling Hills Zoo.

In her later years, Millie enjoyed traveling with her sister-in-law Helen, and together they embarked on many adventures, enjoying the beauty of the backroads of Kansas, and venturing on tours across the country. &nbsp;Millie was preceded in death by her husband Grant. She is survived by her daughter Sandi and husband Brent Harper, granddaughter Kolbi Harper, and niece Nancy Rousseau.Services celebrating Millie’s life will be held at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Street, Salina, Kansas. Robert William Benortham February 28, 1940 ~ November 21, 2023

Robert William Benortham, 83, of Carbondale, KS passed into glory November 21, 2023.&nbsp; He was born February 28, 1940 at Christ’s Hospital in Topeka, KS the son of Fredrick William Benortham and Madeline Lillian (Skonberg) Benortham.&nbsp; He lived his first five years at 701 Cambridge Street (near the Zoo) in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; He moved with his family to a farm near Harveyville, KS where his Dad farmed and his mother was a homemaker.&nbsp;

He attended Harveyville Grade School which was just down the road from the farm.&nbsp; He walked to school but occasionally rode a Shetland pony with a neighbor girl.&nbsp; He graduated from Harveyville Rural High School with the Class of 1958.

Robert earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Emporia State University.&nbsp; He completed a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Horticultural Science from Kansas State University in 1972.&nbsp; He also took additional course work at Washburn University and the University of Hawaii.&nbsp;

In 1962, he began his professional career in teaching at Topeka West High School.&nbsp; He taught Biology and Chemistry for 37 years. He also was a Swim Coach at Topeka West High School.&nbsp; He continued teaching Chemistry for another 15 years for Allen County Community College in Burlingame. He taught science courses in the evenings at Calvary Bible College in Grandview, MO for 7 years.&nbsp; He was able to do this because he had a Pilot’s License and was able to fly from Topeka to the Richard-Gebauer Airfield.&nbsp; The last few years of his teaching career included being a substitute teacher with the Santa Fe Trail 434 School District.

Dr. Bob was awarded “Outstanding Teacher” and “Who’s Who” among Teachers.&nbsp; He later authored two Lab Manuals one for Physical Science and the other for Biological Science.

On October 16, 1971 at the Topeka Bible Church, he was united in marriage to Amy Lucille “Lucy” Tichenor in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; They spent 49 years together serving the Lord in teaching Sunday school, working in the children’s AWANA program and being involved with music and activities at Overbrook Bible Church before her passing on November 21, 2020. Both Robert and Lucy were active in the Gideon ministry where they both served in various leadership positions at the local and state level. They even spent a short period of time on a summer missions project in Guatemala. Robert started playing piano and organ at age 14 and served as organist for two Topeka churches before moving to Overbrook.

Dr. Bob and Lucy started and operated a small greenhouse and florist business for 20 years near Overbrook, KS.&nbsp; They loved being outside gardening together and spending time with their grandchildren. In the summer they would host a “Grandpa &amp; Grandma Camp” for their granddaughters. &nbsp;Dr. Bob ran 5 K’s and marathons throughout the country. He ran his first marathon at age 60. He especially loved running with his grandkids.

Dr. Benortham was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Madeline Benortham; and his wife, Lucy Benortham.

He is survived by his daughter, Sara Smith and her husband, David of St. Joseph, MO; a brother, Thomas Benortham and his wife, Liz of Topeka, KS; three sisters-in-law, Nora Lovely and her husband, Dan of Norwalk, IA, Karla Alkire of Derby, KS and Mary Shipps and her husband, Steve of Topeka, KS; three granddaughters, Joscelyn, Nikola and Kyla; and many nieces and nephews.

Gabriel Myles Ruiz, 21, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, November 21st, 2023.

Gabriel was born in Salina on April 22, 2002, a son of Mary Tower and Ricardo Ruiz.

Survivors include his daughter, Gabriella Ruiz; son, Adrian Ruiz; parents, Mary Tower, and Ricardo Ruiz, all of Salina.&nbsp;Gabriel is also survived by his brothers, Denzel Ruiz, Jordan Cherry; sister, Mya Ruiz; significant other, Alexess Johnson, all of Salina; grandpa, John Tower, of Abilene; uncles, Isreal Ruiz, Michael Tower, both of Salina; aunts, Denise Jett (Kirk) of Wichita, Sabrina Lawrence (Chris Lane), Doreen Lantz (Mark) both of Salina; cousins, Savannah Ruiz, Victoria Ruiz, Marcell Ruiz, Susy Ruiz, Taffany Martin; many more loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sister Patricia Lewter April 25, 1935 ~ November 25, 2023

Sister Patricia Lewter died November 25, 2023, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS. &nbsp;She was 88 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 69 years. &nbsp;She was born in Las Cruces, NM, on April 25, 1935, to Perry and Rosemary Heep Lewter, the oldest of two children, and was baptized Patricia Louise. &nbsp;She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 9, 1953. &nbsp;On March 18, 1954, Patricia received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Rose Helen, later changing back to her baptismal name. &nbsp;She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1955 and final vows on March 19, 1958.

In 1967 Sister Patricia Lewter received her BA from Marymount in Biology; followed by a MA in Counseling in 1976 from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. &nbsp;She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Chicago, IL; Kansas City, KS; Grand Island, NE; and in Plainville and Salina, KS. &nbsp;She was one of three sisters to open Manna House of Prayer in Clyde, KS. &nbsp;S. Patricia served as pastoral minister in Joplin, Web City and Neosho, MO; and Montrose, CO. &nbsp;In 1981 she co-established the nonprofit counseling center, Center for Enriched Communications in Grand Junction, CO. &nbsp;In May, 2018, Sister Patricia retired to the Motherhouse. &nbsp;

Joan N. Finney, 79, died November 21, 2023, at her home in Galva, Kansas.

She was born June 24, 1944, on the Big Island of Hawaii, the daughter of Ted and Gladys Rankin. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1962. On December 16, 1966, Joan was united in marriage to Garron D. Finney in McPherson. Garron preceded her in death in 2003.

A life-long resident of McPherson, she worked for many years at Rankin Equipment Co., and later retired from The Cedars, McPherson.

Many of Joan’s years were spent working hard at her job, home, and at everything she did. Her free time was spent at the lake with family and friends, at bowling league, or visiting with her best friends; Marilyn, Jenny, and Bonnie. Joan also made holidays a special time with great food, gifts, and all the homemade candy you could imagine. And how she did it we will never know, but a card for EVERY holiday and birthday and always on time!

Survivors include: son, Kyle Finney (Bonnie), of Moundridge, KS; daughter, Janae Finney-Wagner of Kingman, KS; brother, Thomas "Tom" Rankin (Patti), of Clackamas, OR; five grandchildren, Paige Finney-Conquest (Dustin), Amber Finney­Hiebert (Brian), Faith Finney, Justin Finney, and John Wagner; three great-grandchildren, Natalee and Brynlee Conquest, and Ezra Hiebert.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Kenny L. Ballard (1985).

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home.

Joan N. Finney

Samuel Lee Haggard, 71, of Salina, passed away Saturday, November 25th, 2023.

Samuel was born in Flora, Mississippi on February 15, 1952, a son of Deola (Hopkins) and Sam Haggard.

He was inducted into the Salina Central Hall of Fame for his 1971 Basketball Team and  was an avid sports fan and fisherman.

Sam served in the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Cessna; two daughters, Samantha Haggard, Kara Haggard; two step daughters, Ashley Owens, Ericka Henley; two step sons, Willie Henley, and Anthony Bishop; sister, Katie Thomas, all of Salina; and brother, Douglas Thompson.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Lariah Graves, Teaira Graves, Aiyanah Laury, Oakley Michels; 1 great granddaughter, Lena Graves; nephew, Earnest Haggard; great niece, Chanel Thomas; and many other extended family members.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roxanne Haggard; sisters, Bettie J. Thomas, Stella Harvey, Doretha Brown, Joanna Haggard; brothers, Henry Haggard, Jessie Haggard, Willie "Lewis" Haggard; and nephew, Nathan Haggard.

 </figure>Samuel Lee Haggard, 71, of Salina, passed away Saturday, November 25th, 2023.Samuel was born in Flora, Mississippi on February 15, 1952, a son of Deola (Hopkins) and Sam Haggard.He was inducted into the Salina Central Hall of Fame for his 1971 Basketball Team and was an avid sports fan and fisherman.Sam served in the United States Air Force.Survivors include his wife, Julie Cessna; two daughters, Samantha Haggard, Kara Haggard; two step daughters, Ashley Owens, Ericka Henley; two step sons, Willie Henley, and Anthony Bishop; sister, Katie Thomas, all of Salina; and brother, Douglas Thompson.He is also survived by grandchildren, Lariah Graves, Teaira Graves, Aiyanah Laury, Oakley Michels; 1 great granddaughter, Lena Graves; nephew, Earnest Haggard; great niece, Chanel Thomas; and many other extended family members.Sam is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roxanne Haggard; sisters, Bettie J. Kelta Louise Cooper (Tracy), a resident of Village Manor of Abilene, KS passed away November 25, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita Kansas.Kelta was born March 10, 1935, in Worthington, Ohio. Her parents were Edwin Leroy and Kathryn Adeline Rush Tracy. Kelta graduated from Columbus High School Class of 1953. She married James Smith Cooper on October 24, 1953 and moved to Chapman, Kansas area that same year. Kelta was a homemaker and a cake decorator. She decorated numerous wedding, birthday and special event cakes. She also had worked at Dairy Queen in Junction City and made the famous Ice Cream cakes.Kelta was a wonderful wife and a loving and caring mother to her children. Kelta loved to fish and garden and dance. She loved to sing Christian songs with her grandchildren at churches and nursing homes.She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Mary Norton of Junction City, KS, Connie Sue Krier, Chapman, KS, Vicki Lynn Welsh of Chapman, KS and Twyla Kay LaRocca (Vince) of Chapman, KS Kelta is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband James Smith Cooper, her parents and a brother Edwin Leroy Tracy Jr., One son James L. Nadine Koegeboehn March 29, 1932 ~ November 25, 2023

Nadine Koegeboehn, 91, of Sedgwick, KS passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Azria Assisted Living in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; She was surrounded by family throughout her final days and hours.

Nadine was born March 29, 1932 to Merl and Leta (Brandt) Brewer.&nbsp; She graduated from Peabody High School (Class of 1950).&nbsp; Nadine worked as a telephone switchboard operator.&nbsp; She married Raymond Koegeboehn on November 28, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Township.&nbsp; After they were married, Nadine joined Ray at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.&nbsp; In 1957, they returned to farming along Middle Creek near Elmdale, KS where they raised 3 children in love and knowing Christ.&nbsp; They retired from farming in 2000 and moved to Marion for 15 years before moving to Sedgwick.&nbsp;

Nadine was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Nadine and Ray enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family.&nbsp; They loved spending time with their children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Nadine also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, and hosting gatherings for friends and family.&nbsp; These gatherings often included playing Pinochle, Pitch, Pins &amp; Jokers, or other games.&nbsp;

Nadine was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers Bob, Melvin, Keith, and Jim; and her sister, Opal Walker.&nbsp; She is survived by daughters, Debbie (Lyle) Heggemeier of Des Moines, IA and Kathy Cline of Wichita, KS; by son, Gary (Lucy) of San Antonio, TX; and by 2 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, and 2 great-grandchildren and many extended family members.

Visitation with family will be held on Sunday, December 17 at 3-5 pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion, KS.&nbsp; A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18 at 11am at Our Savior Lutheran Church.&nbsp;

Emma Mae Litton September 7, 1934 ~ November 22, 2023

Emma Mae’s life began on September 7, 1934, in Newton. She is the daughter of Clifford M. and Ione (Schuessler) Stuart. She was united in marriage to Ross Litton on March 1, 1953, in Furley, KS. 

After getting married, Emma Mae moved to rural Whitewater where they farmed and raised hogs, cattle, and three kids too. She also worked many years at Wheatstate Manor as a CNA, Med Aide, and finally as the Activity Director. 

Emma Mae and Ross traveled all over the world to places like Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and a trip through the Panama Canal. Together they visited 48 of the 50 states, the beautiful mountains of Colorado were her favorite. 

She was an active member of Grace Hill Mennonite Church in Whitewater. She had a love for music and for many years served as the church organist and was also a member of the choir. 

One of her biggest passions was her flower garden and the many different varieties of flowers she had planted and cared for. At one point, she had over 50 different varieties of irises in her garden. 

Emma Mae is survived by her three children Ronald (Ann) Litton of Whitewater, Cheryl (Terry) Klassen of Whitewater and Diana (Phil) Morgan of Wichita; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emma Mae passed away on Wednesday November 22, 2023, at Kidron Bethel of North Newton. 

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday November 29, 2023, from 5-7:30 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday November 30, 2023, at 10:30 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church led by Pastor Weldon Marten.
