Bonnie Schmidt

Bonnie’s life began on April 12, 1941, in Marion, Kansas. She is the daughter of Ronald and Irene (Herbel) Lucas. Bonnie graduated from Marion High School with the Class of 1959. She then went on to work for Gound Ford Dealership as their bookkeeper. Bonnie married Robert Schmidt at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marion. They were married for 62 years. Once Bonnie’s kids were born, she sold Avon Cosmentics and was a Homemaker for her family. Later she took a position as bookkeeper for Marion County Road and Bridge.
When Bonnie wasn’t hard at work or raising her family, she could be found enjoying her crossword puzzles and watching The Price Is Right. Bonnie was also a very active member in Our Savior Lutheran Church and would assist with their Missions Group. She would also get together with her graduating classmates monthly for their potlucks and conversations.
Most of all, Bonnie loved her family, which includes her husband, Robert of the home; sons; Rodney Schmidt of Marion, Troy (Eileen) Schmidt of Marion; and Kevin (Sherri) of Clinton, Missouri; grandchildren; Noah Schmidt, Ruby Schmidt, Nikita (Charlie) Branscombe, Telisha (Josh) Brandt, Trista (Tyler Bone) Humphrey; great grandchildren; Jade Branscombe, Nick Branscombe, Suryna Jones, Sophia Brandt; sister Darlene (Richard) Siebert of Wichita, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bonnie, at the age of 83, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, in Newton, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Irene; sister Delores (Al) Stirman, and aunt; Shirley (Bill) Burkholder. Bonnie’s family will gather with friends on Friday, June 7, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion. Funeral Service for Bonnie will be held 10:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion, lead by Pastor John Werner. Bonnie will be laid to rest at Marion Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in honor of Bonnie may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church or to Good Shephard Hospice, Newton, KS. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the family.
