SALINA -&nbsp;Julie Anne Allen, 68, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021. She was born in McCook, NE to Edgar and Beatrice (Bump) Miles.

Julie earned her associate degree in nursing from Kansas Wesleyan University and a bachelordegree in health care from Brown Mackie College.&nbsp; During Julie’s 25 years in nursing she worked at St. John’s Hospital, many nursing facilities, and taught the medical assistant program at Salina Tech for 12 years.&nbsp; 

Outside of work Julie loved to create art.&nbsp; She was an accomplished painter, sketch artist, and potter.&nbsp; Grandchildren were very important to Julie and she cherished their time together. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Levi Menke; and husband Van Phillips.

Julie is survived by a son, Aaron Menke; granddaughter Foster Anne Menke; grandsons Gaige Menke and Leif Menke; great-grandsons Lane and Jakob; and numerous loving extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary.

Alan Dean Rickard, 60, was called to heaven August 6, 2021. His strong will to live, the love and prayers of family and friends sustained him throughout his cancer battle. Alan was known for his love of music, air guitar skills, and riding his Harley.

Alan was a truck driver. He hauled everything from cows and salt to pizza and vegetables. He also worked at the Salina Journal. 

Alan was born to Gary Lee and Doris “Kay” Rickard, in Scott City, Kansas, on April 18, 1961.

Alan is survived by his fiancé, Mona Cramer; sisters: Lori Kay (Clyde) Billups of Winterhaven, California, and Sue Ann (Javier) Lopez of Platte City, Missouri; children: Dustin J. Chestnutt, Aimee Allen, Justin Cramer, Ethan Hill; grand daughters; Kyla Chestnutt and Kayla Cramer; nieces and nephews: Leanna (Miguel) Garcia, Madison Lopez, and Gabi Lopez, great-nephews Michael, Israel and Judah Garcia. Alan was preceded in death by his parents Gary and Kay Rickard, grandparents Carl and Phebe O’Hair, Roger Strickert, Donna Kay Strickert, and David O’Hair.

Darrell Lynn Ambrosier, 71, of Almena, KS passed away on September 8, 2021, surrounded by family. Darrell was born on August 18, 1950 in Hill City, KS to Alva and Doris Ambrosier.&nbsp; Darrell was drafted into the army to serve a peacekeeping mission in South Korea. After serving in the army, Darrell worked as a lifetime farmer. Darrell is survived by his children Rick (Denise) Ambrosier, of Abilene, KS, Shelly (Mickey) Davis, of Salina, KS, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.&nbsp; Darrell is preceded in death by his wife, Pat Ambrosier, parents, Alva and Doris (Hendershot) Ambrosier, five brothers and two sisters. When Darrell wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He touched many lives with his generosity. Private family services with Military Honors will be held at the Kansas State Veterans' Cemetery at WaKeeney.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Columbarium Wall at the Cemetery. August 2, 1947 ~ September 6, 2021 (age 74)

Florence Aldine Gieber was born on August 2, 1947, in Sabetha, the daughter of Jack &amp; Aldine (Howard) Mathewson. Florence grew up in Hiawatha, and graduated from Hiawatha High School class of 1965. Following high school, she attended and graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, with her master’s degree in elementary education. During her senior year at Southwestern, Flo was selected as the Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year.

Flo taught in Olsburg and Chanute schools, before she moved to Topeka to work as a librarian for USD 501. During this time, she also attended Emporia State University, where she earned her master’s degree in library science. She then went on to attend East Tennessee State, where she earned another master’s degree, in story telling. All told, Florence accumulated enough college credits that she could have obtained her doctorate degree in library science.&nbsp;

Florence was a very accomplished librarian at USD 501, working first at Highland Park North Elementary school, and then transferring to State Street Elementary School, where she retired in 2001. When Flo retired, her library contained over 10,000 books, and on the day of her retirement, Flo had placed every book in its correct place and in order in her library. 

Flo looked forward to attending the National Storytelling Festival for many years in Jonesborough, Tennessee. She also enjoyed attending various conferences throughout her career to obtain autographed copies of the children’s books for her schoo's library. Florence was also able to spend one summer in Europe on the 40 days and 40 nights tour. Their tour group visited different locations each day where famous children’s books and tales were written.

Florence was united in marriage to Nick R. Gieber on August 2, 1985, in Miami, Oklahoma.

Her grandkids were the love of her life, and she enjoyed babysitting them and watching them grow. She also enjoyed attending their extracurricular activities and events. Flo was a proud K-State fan, and especially loved watching her grandson in the KSU Marching Band. She and Nick very much enjoyed traveling to various KSU bowl games throughout the years.

When the Grandpa and Me Honey Company was founded, Flo was the money keeper. The proceeds of the honey sales went towards her three grandkids’ education funds. Flo and Nick generously gave away honey to many people on their travels and adventures.

Florence passed away on September 6, 2021, in Topeka, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 4 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Aldine and her brother Tom Mathewson.

Left to forever cherish their memories of Flo is her husband of 36 years Nick, stepdaughters Christine Sims and Holly Wainwright, along with her husband Jason, all of St. Geor, Kansas.

She is also survived by her grandson Blake Moris and his wife Carly (Tracz) of Overland Park, grandson Evan Moris of Manhattan, and granddaughter Isabella Wilkey of Phoenix.

She is also survived by her brother David Mathewson and his wife Connie of Hiawatha, nephew Stuart Mathewson and his wife Nicki of Hiawatha and their children Gavin and Rozlyn, niece Whitney Oswald and her husband Colton of Horton and their daughter Adalynn. She is also survived by Nick’s brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Ann Sandefer of Wichita, Patricia Pearson of Clyde, Mary Duey of Cuba, Karen Henke and her husband Glenn of Cuba, Butch Gieber and his wife Linda of Cuba, Deb Figarelle and her husband Tony of Great Falls, Montana.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Rosary/vigil services will be held at 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Belleville, with burial following at St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery in Cuba.

Following the cemetery services, family and friends are invited to a reception and luncheon at the Cuba Community Center.

Memorials are requested to the Cuba Booster Club, St. Isidore Church or Hope Brown County, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Norma E. Beneda, the daughter of Bert L. Pack and M. Berniece (Elliott) Pack was born September 10, 1932 in rural Munden, KS and passed away on September 8, 2021 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 28 days.

Norma grew up in rural Republic County, attending the Rose Creek Center School and later Munden High School. On August 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Glen F. Peters and to this union were born&nbsp; Pamela and Peggy.

The couple made their home in the rural Munden, KS area and he preceded her in death in 1965. In 1967, she was united in marriage to Willis R. “Bud” Beneda.&nbsp; The couple lived in Belleville, KS and he preceded her in death in 2013.

Norma worked at the Munden State Bank for 16 years where she assisted in the operation of the bank. She then worked for Holiday Floral in Belleville, KS for 20 years as a book keeper until her retirement. Norma also worked on the local election board for many years.&nbsp;

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Matt Saip; and four brothers,&nbsp; Harold (Lois), Doyle (Erma), Donald, and Paul Pack.

She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Peters (Linton Johnson) of Belleville, KS; and Peg (Doug) Hinson of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren,&nbsp;Jori (Shelly) Hinson, Kirsten Hinson, Landon (Swathi Tella) Hinson, Marissa (Scott)&nbsp; Winfield, and Jessica (Adam) Strawn; seven great-grandchildren, Pryor &amp; Madalyn Hinson, Kenedi, Jailyn &amp; Asher Winfield and&nbsp; Ethan &amp; Trinity Strawn; brother Ray (Sharon) Pack of Salina, KS; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Ida Cemetery, rural Munden, KS with Pastor Jacob Rice, officiating.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.&nbsp; The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.

Adolph F. Schultz, Jr., known to everyone as Jr., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 6, 2021, at the age of 88 years, 2 months, and 21 days. How appropriate for a hard-working man to have his labors completed on Labor Day.

Jr. was born a twin, on June 16, 1933, to Adolph Schultz, Sr. “Dave” and Augusta (Bohl) Schultz. He was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County, living the last 58 years in Clear Creek Township where he and his wife raised their family. 

He was a hard-working man from an early age. He entered the United States Air Force in 1953 serving until 1957 as a pneumatic repairman on airplanes. After his service discharge, he worked for various farmers assisting them wherever needed. He also worked with a construction crew that built the Kanopolis Coop grain elevator. After construction of the elevator, he became an employee until 1973, when he began his employment at Independent Salt Mine. After 25 years of working various jobs at the salt mine, he retired in June of 1998.

Jr. met his future wife Jolene Prochaska at his niece’s wedding in February of 1962. On June 9, 1962, Jr. and Jolene were married. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jolene; sons Barry and wife Lisa of Kanopolis, Gary “Moose” of Powderly, TX, and Jamie and wife Jenna of Ellsworth; daughter Angel Adams and friend John Hegg of Burlington, KS; grandchildren Cody, Joseph, Daniel, Trenton, Heather, and Cameron Schultz, Drew Kratzer, Cyleigh (Calvin) Unruh, and Angelica Sneath; and great-grandchildren Rhys, Boone, Kingston, Hanna, Samuel, Emilee, and Mikey. 

He was preceded in death by his father Dave; mother Augusta; stepmother Frieda; and siblings twin Albert, Irvin, Ador, Vera, Henry, Ferdinand, Elden, Floyd, Helen Soukup, Rosaline Lyne, LaVerna Mikulecky, and Velma Hubbard.

Jr. was a member of the American Legion from 1957 to present where he served in almost every office including many years as the sergeant of arms, the dance chairman, and bouncer. He was a volunteer fireman for 25-plus years and served on the Ellsworth Federal Credit Union board for many years. He also served on many boards at the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was a member. 

He was always ready to help friends and neighbors, no matter the time of day or the day. Jr. did not know a stranger – he could strike up a conversation with anyone and &nbsp;had an infectious personality. He loved fishing, camping, hunting, traveling, cards, and most of all, the special times with his family. He was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, friend, neighbor, and family member.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2021, with family present 6-8 p.m., at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth.

Funeral service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with burial following in Kanopolis Cemetery.

Ron’s life began on December 29, 1948, in Fairbury, Nebraska. He was the son of Alfred Ray and Arlie Virginia (Hatfield) Freed. 

Ron was a 1967 graduate of Ellis High School in Ellis, KS. He joined the Army in 1968 and in 1969 found himself in Vietnam serving our country. Ron continued his Army career for 17 years until he became disabled. 

He was united in marriage to Joyce McCarty on December 18, 1984, in Abilene. 

Ron was an avid bowler and “enjoyed” being stubborn. He was a member of the VFW Post 1281 in Herington. 

His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife Joyce of Herington; children Robert “Mo” (Vickie) Mowry of Cheney, and Robert (Dawn) Harold of Woodbine; grandchildren Samantha, Megan, Skyler, Robert and Thomas; several great-grandchildren, and his siblings Donald Freed of Great Bend, Kenneth (Jana) Freed of Otis, Timothy (Cherie) Freed of Moscow, and Phyllis Freeman of Wichita. 

Ron passed away at home on September 2, 2021. 

His family will gather with friends on Thursday from September 9, 2021, from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel-Megi Funeral Home, Herington. His graveside funeral service will be held at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, Fort Riley on Friday September 10, 2021, at 2 p.m. with honors led by VFW 1281, Herington.

Harold’s life began on August 9, 1935, in Ramona. He was the son of Alexander and Susanna (Riffel) Hanschu. Harold was a 1953 graduate of Ramona High School. He was united in marriage to Thelma (Wells) Hanschu on August 11, 1957.

Harold was a farmer and cabinet maker most of his life. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona, enjoyed softball, repairing old farm tractors and his family.

He is survived by his children Kevin Hanschu, Kelly (Udey) Hanschu, Kim (Mary) Hanschu, and Kris (Cheri’) Hanschu; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Junior Hanschu.

Harold passed away on September 7, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma, brothers Harry, Daniel, Arthur, Wilber, and Paul and sister Velma Krause.

His family will gather with friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington. His graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lewis Cemetery, Ramona led by Pastor Clark Davis.

Memorial contributions in Harold’s name may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Family is requesting masks be worn. Service will be lived streamed.

Bobby Wayne Goff, 64, of Concordia, KS, left this earthly life on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021 surrounded by his family at his home in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born on March 23, 1957 in Wenatchee, WA to Leonard A. &amp; Frances L. (Huddleston) Goff.

He graduated from Jewell High School in 1975.

He married Tina Hill on February 24, 1979 in Concordia, Kansas at The Wesleyan Church.

Bob worked for the Cloud County Highway Dept. as a heavy equipment operator for 30 plus years until his retirement in 2012. He coached girls’ youth softball for nine years and maintained the West Branch and Fairview Cemeteries for 20-plus years.

Bob enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and gardening, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. He loved to visit and always had a story or a joke to tell.

He is survived by his wife Tina, Concordia; daughter Samantha Goff (Skylar Wiley), Concordia; brother Allen Goff (Joycelyn), Winfield, KS; mother in law Liz Standley, Jamestown, KS; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip Hill (Bobbie), Ord, NE, Dale Hull (Rita), Herrington, KS, Scott Hull (Diane), Lincolnville, KS, Bruce Hull (Diane), Lincoln, NE, Lee Ann Peters (Jerry), Gypsum, KS; two grandchildren, Christian and Caidence; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and fathers-in-law Glen Hill and Frank Standley.

It was Bob’s wishes to be cremated and the family will hold a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Pastor Al Paredes officiating.&nbsp; The family requests causal dress for the services. Visitation will be on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., all at the funeral home. There will be a private family inurnment at later date in West Branch Cemetery.

James “Jim” D. Ryals, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia.&nbsp; He was born on Oct. 16, 1958 in Salina, KS to Tommy P. and Barbara A. (Robbins) Ryals.

He graduated from Concordia High School in 1976.&nbsp; He attended Salina Vo-Tech for drafting.&nbsp; After working for a while, he returned to school and graduated from Cloud County Community College in 1988 and then Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.&nbsp; He worked for K-DOT from 1999-2006.&nbsp; Jim was an avid member of the NRA and enjoyed competitive trap shooting.

He is survived by his longtime partner Teri Smith, Concordia; son Jay Smith (Staci), McPherson; grandchildren Ethan and Wyatt Shanks, South Hutchinson; brother Jerrod Ryals (Stephanie), Clay Center; several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles ‘Chuck’ Ryals.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2021 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. Burial will follow at the West Branch Cemetery, Concordia.&nbsp; Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021 from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home.&nbsp; 

The family suggests memorials to O’Connor Animal Shelter, Concordia in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;
