Joyce Jean Langhofer passed into the loving arms of her savior on September 30, 2021 in Hillsboro, Kansas.
She was born on the Bill and Minnie Kaufman farm in Russell County, Kansas in 1938.
She had resided at Salem Home in Hillsboro, Kansas for the last three months and previously had lived in Topeka, Dorrance and Wilson, Kansas with her husband Dean for 63 years of married life. He was committed to being at her bedside and they enjoyed God’s word and devotions together daily until the end.
Joyce loved music and singing “Heavenly Sunshine” and many other gospel hymns with her daughter Kerry, that brought joy to our hearts and smiles to our faces even in these last days. She was an avid follower of Jesus and His Word and her soul is now in heaven awaiting a new resurrected body because He lives. Her faith was strong to the very end. She often quoted Romans 10:9 as assurance of her personal salvation in Christ.
Joyce is survived by her husband Dean; son Stan and wife Theresa of Topeka and Dallas, TX; daughter Kerry Shewey and husband Andy of Hillsboro; four cherished grandchildren, Jessica Wilson and husband Matt of Mesquite, TX, Samuel Langhofer of Topeka, KS, Clay Shewey and wife Mallory of Hillsboro, KS, and Grant Shewey and wife Lauren of Hillsboro, KS; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Merle Kaufman and wife Linda of Dodge City, KS; sister-in-law Opal Kaufman of Knoxville, TN and many precious nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives that meant the world to her.
She played a special role in the entire family as we gathered in their home and around her table regularly. Joyce made friends quickly wherever she went and her smile shined bright. She’s doing the same right now in her new heavenly home.
We have honored her wish of cremation and she will be laid to rest in the Dorrance City Cemetery with a small private family graveside celebration of life at a later date.
