Don Pennington, Sr., 78, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, surrounded by family at his home. Don was a farmer and rancher and was a truck driver for Farmland Industries, retiring in 2004.
Don was born on February 23, 1943, in McCune, KS, the son of Dewey and Lydia Mae (Jacquinet) Pennington. He attended the McPherson schools.
On July 15, 1962, Don was united in marriage to Judy A. Burns in McPherson. They were married for 55 years before Judy’s passing on May 11, 2018.
He was the president of V.FW. Unit #2715 and past president of the V.F.W. Men’s Auxiliary. He was also past master of McPherson Lodge #172 AF & AM, and was a member of Isis Shrine.
Survivors include: three children, Don Pennington, Jr. of McPherson, KS, Danny Pennington and wife, Darlene, of Castle Rock, WA, and Kristi Schrader and husband, Andy, of McPherson, KS; a brother, Dewey Pennington and wife, Yvonne, of Lehigh, KS; a sister, Shirley Cain (Don) of Mt. Vernon, MO; five grandchildren, Rylee and Drew Schrader of McPherson, KS, Jessica Pennington of Longview, WA, Diana Pennington of Hoover, AL, and Erica Pennington of Cheney, WA; two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Myla Hutchinson; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Janice Behr.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
