Lola Mae (Adee) Everett was born September 12th, 1942, in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Loyall M. and Esther M. (Rider) Adee. She passed away at the age of 80 on Saturday, April 15th, 2023, in Beloit, Kansas, at Mitchell County Hospital. Lola graduated from Abilene High School in 1960, and was united in marriage to Gerald E. Everett on August 20th, 1960, who preceded her in death in 2017. In 1963, their son, Donald E., was born. Donnie preceded Lola in death in 2018. In 1968, their daughter, Julie D., was born. Lola was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and sister, Sandra J. (Enger) Miller. As a homemaker, she became fascinated with and spent many hours studying her family’s genealogy and history. Lola compiled newspaper articles, certificates, and other resources into several volumes. She also enjoyed game shows, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing card games with her children and grandchildren. Lola is survived by daughter Julie Boyd and her husband Steven of Abilene; their children, Shannon and Michelle Young of Abilene; Talon Combes of Abilene; Megan and Hunter Gregory, their sons Keaton, Kade, and Kolter of Gore, Oklahoma; Ashley Boyd and Hugh Boyd of Oklahoma City; daughter-in-law Debra Everett of Salina; Debra and Donnie’s children, Jordan Everett and her son, Watson Solis, of Wichita; Brooke Burr and husband Landon of Billings, Montana; and Sydney Everett and Emilee Everett of Salina. Lola is also survived by her siblings Caroll (Lowell) Eye, Melvin (Sherry) Adee, Bruce Enger, Linda (Steve) Myers, Christine Enger, Janice (Steve) Dester, Rhonda Keating, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Lola will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene with Reverend Mik King. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Lyle Irwin Jilka, 63, of Salina, Kansas passed away on April 18, 2023.

Lyle was born to the late Adolph and Zelma (Glenn) Jilka in Salina on July 11, 1959. &nbsp;

He was a graduate of Salina Central and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; He grew up working at the sale barn in Salina where his father worked as well as helping Bill Giersch on the farm.&nbsp; He spent a few years with Evans Grain traveling the state collecting grain samples.&nbsp; Before retirement he spent many years with Great Plains Manufacturing as well as part time in the lawn and garden department at Walmart.&nbsp; After retirement, he worked part time for Hedville gas station.

Lyle is survived by his son Trevor of the home; and daughter Taylor (Drew) Coad of Salina; grandchildren Aubree Kasper, Dax Kraft, and Aris Coad; brothers Ken Jilka of Minot ND, Robert (Linda) Jilka of St. George, UT; and sister LuAnn (Larry) Morris of Salina; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary Tuesday April 25th from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present 6 to 8.

A funeral service will be held at Ryan Mortuary Wednesday April 26th at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Shiloh Cemetery on W. Pleasant Hill Rd.

James Dean Brown, 89, of Beeler, Kansas, passed away on April 17, 
2023 at Shawnee Post Acute and Rehabilitation Center, Overland Park, 
Kansas. 

James, known by most as Jim, was born to George Mason and Carrie
 Etta (Smith) Brown on July 14, 1933, on the family farm in Alamota, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Dighton High School&nbsp; and enlisted in the 
Army during the Korean War.&nbsp; He served as a paratrooper and completed 27
 jumps and had many adventures in Greece including a meeting with some 
suspicious farmers with pitchforks during one landing.&nbsp; He liked to 
travel but returned home to help on the farm.&nbsp; He worked on the railroad
 and retired from the Union Pacific as a foreman in&nbsp;1997.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He&nbsp;continued 
to farm, share jokes with friends and family on email, and explore 
herbal cures and natural remedies.&nbsp; He liked to stay abreast of 
technology and built several televisions.&nbsp; He enjoyed keeping up with 
the news on his computer, using Amazon Alexa and good food, particularly
 ice cream.&nbsp; &nbsp;He was a&nbsp;quiet man, practical yet stubbornly optimist, who
 dared to dream impossible dreams. Jim marched to his own drum and 
loved&nbsp; the only way he knew how.&nbsp; He said 90% of success in life was 
just showing up and he made sure that he showed up for his family and 
friends.

Jim said that he was ready to move on to his other dimension and 
looked forward to being reunited with beloved daughter Jamie Dea who 
proceeded him in death in 1978. Jim was also predeceased by his parents,
 George and Carrie, his sisters Vera Whipple, Velma Stramel, Kitty 
Fisher, his brother William Brown and nephews Terry Brown and Dick 
Stramel.&nbsp;

Jim is survived by his daughter, Misty Brown Polo and Matteo 
Polo (Kansas City), son James G. Brown (Hutchinson), his step-daughter 
Lorrie Little (Salina) and step-son Marlin Portenier (Dodge 
City),&nbsp;granddaughters Annagrace and Giulietta and grandsons&nbsp;Damon, Jamon
 and Gianluca and 25 step grand and great grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on April 21, 2023, at 
the Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City, Kansas followed by burial in 
the Dighton Cemetery, Dighton, Kansas.

Eleanor F. Stafford, 94, of Belleville, passed away April 14.

Eleanor “Ellie” Faye (June) Stafford was born on August 25, 1928, in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of Russell Edward and Faye Marie (Campbell) June. 

Eleanor grew up in Mansfield, graduating from Mansfield Senior High School. She then attended Mansfield Business College.

She was united in marriage to Richard Lee Stafford on June 8, 1947, in Mansfield, and to this union four children were born. The family made their home in Mansfield, Ohio, for many years before relocating to Republic County in 1983.

Ellie worked as a CNA at the Republic County Hospital for many years before she retired. She was active in the United Presbyterian Church, and community organizations.

Ellie passed away on April 14, 2023, at the Republic County Hospital, at the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 20 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard in 2015, son David Lee Stafford in 2019, her sister Dorothy E. Hargrave and brother Donald L. June.

She is survived by her children, son Alan Richard Stafford of Goldfield, Nevada; daughter Lisa Marie Rider-Stafford of Ft. Worth, Texas, and son Gregory Scot Stafford of Belleville. Eleanor is also survived by her grandchildren Sara Isaccson (Greg) of Salida, Colorado, Josh Stafford (Christina) of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, Kelly Bauer of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Sean Stafford of Emporia, Kansas.

Graveside memorial services will be held at the Belleville City Cemetery at a later date.

Ella Louise (Peters) Moloney, 76, passed away on April 16, 2023, in Shawnee Mission, KS. Ella
 was born July 29, 1946, in Joplin, MO, a daughter of James Ralph and 
Alberta Frances (Johnson) Peters. She was united in holy matrimony to 
James Francis Moloney on August 31, 1967, at St. Xavier Catholic Church 
where she was a lifelong member after joining the Catholic Church early 
in 1967. They resided in rural Junction City, KS on the family farm for
 54 years together. Left to honor her memory are her loving 
children; Donny Moloney of Wichita, Michelle Moloney (Jane) of Leawood, 
Cecilia (Brian) Aruskevicius of Wichita, Jean Moloney of Mariemont, OH, 
Patrick (Erin) Moloney of Shawnee, Sheila (Dan) Smith of Hillsboro, IA, 
Michael (Courtney) Moloney of Waverly, Megan Moloney (Jerry) of Abilene,
 John (Jamelle) Moloney of Lawrence, Mary (Korby) Effland of White City.
 The joys of her life, her 27 Grandchildren; Mary Halligan, Jack, Sam 
(Cecilia), Oscar, Isabel, Sophie (Jean), Maggie, James, Thomas 
(Patrick), Cameron, Zachary, Finnegan, Lochlan (Sheila), Sierra, Seth, 
Silas (Michael), Tucker, Abraham, Blake, Dean (Megan), Josephine, Jimma 
(John), Ian, Nolan, Sheldon, Norah, Erin (Mary) who affectionately 
called her G-Ma. She was especially looking forward to being a great 
G-Ma in the coming weeks. Additional survivors include: a sister,
 Sherrie DeBusk of Weir, a brother, Jerry Peters, a sister-in-law, Sandy
 Peters of Wichita, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, beloved friends, 
neighbors, and community members. In addition to her parents, she
 was preceded in death by her husband, James Moloney, 3 brothers, Ralph,
 Roger, and Johnny and one sister, Nancy. She attended a one-room
 schoolhouse (Walla Walla) for Elementary School and graduated from 
Chapman High School in 1964. She often talked of her time at Walla 
Walla with great delight and love. Chapman High is where she learned 
her love of music. Her fondest memory of high school is going to the 
State Basketball Tournament and playing with the band at halftime. Ella
 spent her life raising children, farming with her late husband, and as a
 rural mail carrier. She began as a substitute carrier in 1989 and 
retired from her long-time route in Chapman in 2015. She was proud to 
be a mail carrier and looked forward to her job every day. If she was 
your mail carrier, you could always expect a smile, a wave, fun notes in
 your mailbox, and that she and her Jeep were dressed for the season! 
She always stopped to talk as well, if she felt someone needed it, even 
if it put her off schedule. She was honored to have been chosen as the 
Kansas Rural Letter Carrier of the Year in 2012. She served as a 
national delegate for 8 years, held the office of chaplain, and 
continued to be involved at national conventions. In 2016, she joined 
Johnson Funeral Home as a support staff member to assist with funeral 
services. She was a lover of music, a devout Catholic, an avid 
bowler, and devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Xavier 
Catholic Church, the Christian Women’s Club, the Kansas Bowling 
Association, and a former school board member of St. Xavier Catholic 
School. She loved music theatre and was a part of many productions with
 Junction City Little Theatre. She was always singing or saying 
nursery rhymes. She was known to put the children in the station wagon 
on a whim and take them into town to “perform” (dancing, singing, poems)
 for the residents at the local nursing homes. To know her was to know 
the size of her heart. There was always room for one more at the dinner
 table, always an extra dollar for someone in need, and always time to 
stop and chat. In all of Ella’s travels near and far, she always 
managed to find someone with a connection to her, whether it be “she 
used to be my neighbor” or “that’s where my son-in-law is from.” She 
was a devoted Grandma, and it was truly her favorite endeavor. She was 
at every possible activity, cheering the loudest, and bragging all the 
way through. We will always cherish her memory. Family will 
receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
 at St. Xavier Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A
 Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 
21, 2023, at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be at Vine Creek

 </figure>Ella Louise (Peters) Moloney, 76, passed away on April 16, 2023, in Shawnee Mission, KS. Ella
 was born July 29, 1946, in Joplin, MO, a daughter of James Ralph and 
Alberta Frances (Johnson) Peters. She was united in holy matrimony to 
James Francis Moloney on August 31, 1967, at St. Xavier Catholic Church 
where she was a lifelong member after joining the Catholic Church early 
in 1967. They resided in rural Junction City, KS on the family farm for
 54 years together. Left to honor her memory are her loving 
children; Donny Moloney of Wichita, Michelle Moloney (Jane) of Leawood, 
Cecilia (Brian) Aruskevicius of Wichita, Jean Moloney of Mariemont, OH, 
Patrick (Erin) Moloney of Shawnee, Sheila (Dan) Smith of Hillsboro, IA, 
Michael (Courtney) Moloney of Waverly, Megan Moloney (Jerry) of Abilene,
 John (Jamelle) Moloney of Lawrence, Mary (Korby) Effland of White City.
 The joys of her life, her 27 Grandchildren; Mary Halligan, Jack, Sam 
(Cecilia), Oscar, Isabel, Sophie (Jean), Maggie, James, Thomas 
(Patrick), Cameron, Zachary, Finnegan, Lochlan (Sheila), Sierra, Seth, 
Silas (Michael), Tucker, Abraham, Blake, Dean (Megan), Josephine, Jimma 
(John), Ian, Nolan, Sheldon, Norah, Erin (Mary) who affectionately 
called her G-Ma. She was especially looking forward to being a great 
G-Ma in the coming weeks. Additional survivors include: a sister,
 Sherrie DeBusk of Weir, a brother, Jerry Peters, a sister-in-law, Sandy
 Peters of Wichita, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, beloved friends, 
neighbors, and community members. In addition to her parents, she
 was preceded in death by her husband, James Moloney, 3 brothers, Ralph,
 Roger, and Johnny and one sister, Nancy. She attended a one-room
 schoolhouse (Walla Walla) for Elementary School and graduated from 
Chapman High School in 1964. She often talked of her time at Walla 
Walla with great delight and love. Chapman High is where she learned 
her love of music. Her fondest memory of high school is going to the 
State Basketball Tournament and playing with the band at halftime. Ella
 spent her life raising children, farming with her late husband, and as a
 rural mail carrier. She began as a substitute carrier in 1989 and 
retired from her long-time route in Chapman in 2015. She was proud to 
be a mail carrier and looked forward to her job every day. If she was 
your mail carrier, you could always expect a smile, a wave, fun notes in
 your mailbox, and that she and her Jeep were dressed for the season! 
She always stopped to talk as well, if she felt someone needed it, even 
if it put her off schedule. She was honored to have been chosen as the 
Kansas Rural Letter Carrier of the Year in 2012. She served as a 
national delegate for 8 years, held the office of chaplain, and 
continued to be involved at national conventions. In 2016, she joined 
Johnson Funeral Home as a support staff member to assist with funeral 
services. She was a lover of music, a devout Catholic, an avid 
bowler, and devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Xavier 
Catholic Church, the Christian Women’s Club, the Kansas Bowling 
Association, and a former school board member of St. Xavier Catholic 
School. She loved music theatre and was a part of many productions with
 Junction City Little Theatre. She was always singing or saying 
nursery rhymes. She was known to put the children in the station wagon 
on a whim and take them into town to “perform” (dancing, singing, poems)
 for the residents at the local nursing homes. To know her was to know 
the size of her heart. There was always room for one more at the dinner
 table, always an extra dollar for someone in need, and always time to 
stop and chat. In all of Ella’s travels near and far, she always 
managed to find someone with a connection to her, whether it be “she 
used to be my neighbor” or “that’s where my son-in-law is from.” She 
was a devoted Grandma, and it was truly her favorite endeavor. She was 
at every possible activity, cheering the loudest, and bragging all the 
way through. We will always cherish her memory. Family will 
receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
 at St. Xavier Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A
 Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 
21, 2023, at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be at Vine Creek 
Cemetery in Ottawa County, KS, following the service. Memorials may be made to St. Xavier Catholic Church.

Flora Mae Weigel, 90, passed away on April 17, 2023, at Hays Medical 
Center, Hays, Kan. She was born on July 17, 1932, in Walker, Kan., to 
Anselm “Lefty” Braun and Anna Marie Braun. On July 17, 1954, she married
 Robert Leo Weigel in Walker, Kan. He passed on March 9, 2001.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Flora was a dedicated homemaker.
 She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima, 
Altar Society and helped with the Adoration Chapel. Flora Mae enjoyed 
spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren’s 
activities.

Survivors include two sons, Robert “Bob” (Doris) Weigel of Great 
Bend, Kan. and Brian Weigel of Salina, Kan.; two daughters, Pam Hitz and
 Michelle (Eric) Moore, both of Great Bend, Kan.; five grandchildren, 
Tyler (Brooke) Weigel, Jocelyn Weigel (Zac), Jessica Walters, Esten 
Moore and Braylon Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Oren Talukdar and 
Bobby Troughton. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a
 brother, Donald Braun; and two infant sisters, Darlene and Lorine 
Braun.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 
2023, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m., family receiving guests 
from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and vigil service at 7:00 p.m., all at 
Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 
a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Church with Father 
Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery in 
Walker, Kan.

Mary Ellen Maxey, age 87, died on April 17, 2023, in her home in Salina, Kansas.

She was born on her parent’s farm at Lost Springs, Kansas in Morris County on September 25, 1936, to Isaac and Nettie Bergen.&nbsp; She lived with her parents until 1950 when she moved to Herington, Kansas. &nbsp;

She attended school in Burdick, Kansas graduating from high school in 1956.&nbsp; In 1979 she moved to Salina, working at Marymount College and the Best Western Hotel.

She married Benjamin Franklin Ford November 6, 1970, Benjamin died July 17, 1979. Then married Gaylord Maxey June 26, 1987, Gaylord died November 16, 1994.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Benjamin Franklin Ford and Gaylord Lee Maxey, her parents Isaac and Nettie Bergen, and two half-sisters, Mada McClain and Caroline Banks, and one half-brother, Howard Bergen.

Mark O. Pruitt, a longtime resident of Florissant, MO passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at the age of 69 years. He was born on April 18, 1953 in Chicago, IL to the late Ralph O. and Marjorie A. Pruitt (nee Henry).

Mark attended grade school and jr. high in the Matteson School Dist.(Chicago south suburbs). He went on to attend Rich Central High School and graduated in 1971. While in high school, Mark participated in running track and also played baseball on summer leagues when he would be out in Kansas helping with the wheat harvests of his grandad and grandma's farm. He also was involved while attending Rich Central H.S., with music/band-playing the trombone. 

Upon high school graduation, he attended University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering in 1977. He later completed a master's degree from Washington University-St. Louis. Mark was a fervent fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Fighting Illini for the rest of his life.

Mark landed his dream job with McDonnell Douglas/Boeing designing military aircraft for them for 33 years, retiring in 2011. During his career there he made significant contributions to the F-18 military fighter jet and C-17. He patented products still used today and accumulated many honors with the company.

After retirement, he remained active in the Commemorative Air Force-Missouri Wing. Some of his favorite activities were guiding visitors through tours of the museum, helping with their hangar dances at Smartt Field-St. Charles and working their booth during the Spirit of St. Louis Airport air shows.

Later in his life, Mark married his wife Fairel McFadden, and shared a close bond with his stepdaughters, and stepgrandsons who lovingly cared for him at the end of his life.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Marjorie Pruitt. 

He is survived by his wife Fairel and stepdaughters Christine Kiser and Julia McFadden, stepgrandsons Corey and Nicholas Kiser, siblings Dave Pruitt and Ann Jenkins (husband Gene), nieces Megan and Cori (husband-James), nephews Scott, Nicholas (wife-Jessica), Matthew (wife-Danielle), 12 great-nieces and nephews, many cousins, aunt and uncle Jim and Janice Skinner, and other relatives and friends.

Joel Brian Hurd, 48, of Newton, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood, Kansas. He was born May 31, 1974 in Sacramento, California, the son of Millard and Karen (Falline) Hurd. Joel was a member of Hillcrest Community Foursquare Church in Newton. He helped run the Harvey County Farmer’s Market and was a member on the Food and Farm Council and Harvey County Extension Board. He was united in marriage to Kerri Lin Fast on December 7, 2002. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son Daniel (Ashley Vogan) Hurd; daughter Haleigh Clay; parents Millard and Karen Hurd; brothers David Williamson and Stephen (Carol) Hurd; sister Cyndi Hurd; and close family members Todd and Jessica Dempster and their son Thomas. He leaves behind in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Joel was preceded in death by his father-in-law Wayne Fast; nephew Jacob Hurd; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Joel never met a stranger. He was a quiet, gentle man with a heart of gold. He loved his family more than anything. He had a heart and passion for prayer. He prayed fervently for others and very rarely asked for prayers for himself. He struggled for over 20 years with serious medical conditions, but hardly complained. He helped others as well as he could and as often as he could. He was the listening ear for so many who needed it. Joel was a great husband, dad, uncle, son and friend. Visitation will be Friday, April 21st from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston.

 Cremation is planned following visitation and a private family burial will take place at Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Newton KS at a later date. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Hillcrest Community Foursquare Church, Newton, and will be live streamed on their Facebook page. Glenn Dean Stucky, 71, of Galva, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born September 10, 1951 in Goessel, Kansas, the son of Marion J. and Welma V. (Siemens) Stucky. He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1969, and later graduated from Kansas State University where he received his bachelor’s of science in vocational agriculture. Glenn was a grain and livestock farmer, growing wheat and soybeans, and raising cattle. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Christian. Glenn was quite the metal worker. He loved crafting metal windmills and gifting them to family. He enjoyed watching sports and looked forward to March Madness, where he would often watch with a Dr. Pepper in hand. Above all, Glenn loved spending time with his two grandsons. Glenn was united in marriage to Patricia Lynn Clark on July 31, 1976 at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge. He is survived by his wife, and three children, Eric (Kat) Stucky of Wichita, Alex (Carina) Stucky of Durham, NC, and Natalie (Josh) Frye of Sabetha; two grandsons, James Stucky and Carter Frye; mother and father-in-law Charles and Susan Clark of McPherson; brother LaVern (Marilyn) Stucky of Peabody; sister Nancy (Gary) Blake of Galva; brothers-in-law Ed (Dorothy) Strausz of Alvin, TX and Dennis Clark of McPherson; and sister-in-law Julie (Lyle) Kroeker of Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Karlyn Strausz and Phyllis Stucky. He was born September 10, 1951 in Goessel, Kansas, the son of Marion J. and Welma V. (Siemens) Stucky. He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1969, and later graduated from Kansas State University where he received his bachelor’s of science in vocational agriculture. Glenn was a grain and livestock farmer, growing wheat and soybeans, and raising cattle. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Christian. Glenn was quite the metal worker. He loved crafting metal windmills and gifting them to family. He enjoyed watching sports and looked forward to March Madness, where he would often watch with a Dr. Pepper in hand. Above all, Glenn loved spending time with his two grandsons. Glenn was united in marriage to Patricia Lynn Clark on July 31, 1976 at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge. Gloria L. Roe, 91, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023, at McPherson Hospital following a brief illness.&nbsp;

Gloria was born on September 2, 1931, in Green, KS.&nbsp; 

In 1960, the young family moved to McPherson, KS.&nbsp; She worked for several area businesses as a bookkeeper and ended her career as an associate with Walmart when they opened a new store in McPherson.&nbsp;

Gloria valued that she was able to live her entire life independently and “Independent” she was!&nbsp; She will be remembered by many for the pastries and cookies that she baked almost daily and shared with everyone.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Richard) Luthi of McPherson, KS; former daughter-in-law Becky Roe, of Greenville, MS; seven grandchildren, Tennille (Curtis) Finklea, Wendy Roe Bell, Greg Roe, Shannon (Jennifer) Luthi, Brandon Luthi (Sherry Peterson), Kelli (Tor) Farley, and Tennille (Trey) Hilyard; and 16 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She also held a very special place in her heart for Claire Wiens, whom she always considered one of her own grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her son Danny Roe, one brother, and one sister.

Willard R. Funk, 71, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2023, surrounded by family at his home in McPherson. &nbsp;

Willard Funk, the third of five children, was born on February 8, 1952, to Roy and Mary Ann (Rempel) Funk at Bethesda Hospital in Goessel, Kansas.

He attended Cresswell, a one-room country school six miles south of Hillsboro from first through third grade. He was sure to inform his first-grade teacher, Frieda Suderman, that "I don't know nuttin." The country schools consolidated, and he began fourth grade in the Hillsboro schools. 

He was baptized and became a member of Brudertal Mennonite Church, which later united with Johannestal Church and became Trinity Mennonite Church. He represented the youth by turning the first shovel at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Trinity Mennonite Church on May 15, 1966.

Fifty-seven years later, Will attended the final church service at Trinity Mennonite Church on Easter Sunday April 9, 2023. Barely able to speak and stand, he stood up and shared with the congregation what the church and the Christian doctrine had meant to him in his formative years and was the "foundation on which he was standing today."

He grew up on a dairy farm five miles southwest of Hillsboro, where he learned work ethic and commitment, doing daily chores, milking cows and everything that goes with that occupation. 

He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1969 and entered the workforce, first at Donahue in Durham and then Hillsboro Industries.

On a chance meeting through a mutual friend, Willard met Janet Schmidt. What started out to be a casual acquaintance culminated in holy matrimony on December 28, 1974, at the Lehigh Mennonite Church. They lived in Lehigh, Kansas, where on September 13, 1978, they were blessed with a son, Marshal Craig. After a few years, they moved to McPherson. They joined the First Baptist Church where he was involved in the worship team, singing and playing guitar or banjo. He was employed at Hesston Corporation (now known as AGCO), McPherson Sanitation Department, and most recently, Farmers Alliance.

He was a caregiver for Janet as she fought breast cancer for three years. She passed away on June 9, 2006. 

As he continued life in McPherson, attending First Baptist Church, he became better acquainted with Mary Shaw, who also had musical interests. When the time was right, he asked Connor, Mary's son, for her hand in marriage and proceeded with his proposal plan, conspiring with Mary's employer, People's Bank &amp; Trust. On a lunch date at Main Street Deli across the street from People's Bank, Will asked about the temperature causing Mary to look across the street and on the People's lighted outdoor marquee sign, she read "Mary, what is your interest in marrying me?" Her reply, "100%." They united their lives in marriage on September 27, 2008, in an outdoor ceremony on a gorgeous fall morning, at the residence of a friend. His family now included two more sons, Ryan and Connor Shaw. He loved Mary's family like his own and loved sharing jokes with Camden, his 11-year-old grandson.

Will loved the outdoors and would never turn down an opportunity to enjoy a campfire, always&nbsp; bringing his guitar and being the entertainment for the evening. His family will never forget the Father's Day FUNKtion Camp Out at Marion Reservoir when he performed his "Funk Daddy" rap, dressed for the part complete with bling; then the next morning leading the worship service with a well thought out meditation. His repertoire included "De Lime in de Coconut" a camp site favorite, which was always requested by great-nieces and nephews. After his vision had declined in 2016, he was asked to play guitar at his Uncle Johnnie Rempel's memorial service. He chose one of his favorite songs that he had memorized and didn't need to see music for, "Come Thou Fount."

When severely impaired vision forced him to retire, he continued his upbeat positive spirit. He did daily walks, continued to do yard work and had meals ready when Mary came home from work. He was legally blind, but spending time around him, one would often forget, because he tried very hard to remain independent.

Will enjoyed day trips to small Kansas towns and rides in the country. He attended weekly meetings with the Band of Brothers at church. Time spent with family and friends was a priority. Morning devotions and daily bible reading started his days off and kept him centered.

Four years after having melanoma removed from his arm, it returned in his brain and lung. He continued his positive attitude through treatment. The death of his son, Marshal, in June of 2022 was an extremely difficult time; and was the beginning of a rapid decline in his health. Mary continued to be a constant helping companion, knowing just how much assistance and independence to give him. 

After scans showed the immunotherapy treatments weren't helping to control the lung cancer, Will went on hospice care on April 12. Some of his last audible words were, "We will all be together again." He peacefully entered his eternal rest, where "we will all be together again" on Saturday evening, April 15, 2023. 

Praise God for His unspeakable (indescribable) gift! II Corinthians 9:15. Many of us can concur with Mary's sentiments, "I am a better person for having known him." He had a humble spirit and a quiet sense of humor that will be missed by many.

Celebrating his life and mourning his loss are his wife Mary; her sons Ryan (Jordan) Shaw, their children Camden, Emercyn and Nolan of Cheney, Kansas and Connor Shaw of Kansas City, Kansas. Also surviving are his brothers Gerald (Sharon) of Hillsboro, Kansas, Myron (Rochelle) of Wichita, Kansas, Lyle (Elaine) of Hillsboro, Kansas, and sister Elaine (Jim) Baker of Hillsboro, Kansas, his aunt Lenora Gehring of Moundridge, Kansas, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents Roy and Mary Ann (Rempel) Funk, first wife Janet (Schmidt) Funk, and son Marshal Craig Funk.

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, April 21, at the McPherson Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor John Pattison officiating.

Frances Mae Milner was born at home, near Belleville, Kansas on January 21, 1934, to Donald Adelbert and Frances Sarah Milner.

Her young life was spent being part of a huge network of relatives and she had wonderful childhood memories and lifelong friendships with her many cousins.

Her mom, Sarah was a teacher in a on- room county schoolhouse, near Agenda, Kansas, where she attended grades first through eighth. She often had to ride a stubborn Shetland pony to school, since her mom had to go to school early to start a fire in cold weather, draw water from the well and prepare for the day. When she was very young, most of her clothes were handmade and many dresses were made from decorative feedsack cloth.

Frances excelled in school and had dreams of attending college, but instead fell in love. She graduated from Belleville High school at seventeen and married Billy Gene Lang, May 20, 1951. Billy was in the Navy and right after their wedding, set out to start their life. Their first child, Susan Jeanette Lang was born, March 16, 1953, at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. When Billy was discharged, they moved back to Kansas.

A job opportunity came available for him to drive semi mail trucks for the Rock Island Railroad in Herington, and they moved there in 1955. Steven Dale Lang was born on November 2, 1955, Sheryl Kay April 2, 1957, and Scott Eugene August 4, 1958.

Frances was a full-time wife and homemaker in those first years but also sold Sarah Coventry jewelry for extra income. 

April 21, 1962, her husband, Billy, tragically died in an accident. At 28 years old, she was to be left with four young children, with no idea how she would support them. Fortunately, she received good advice and had a network of good friends, including her mom and stepdad.

Then, God decided she needed a good partner, and she met Richard (Rich) Gehrke! They fell deeply in love, and he took on the huge task of having an instant family. Quite daunting for a thirty-year old bachelor, who was somewhat on the wild side! He lived up to that task and worked his way up to being the supervisor at Greeley Gas. Through ups and downs, thick and thin, they loved each other, were best friends and true partners. 

And Frances worked right alongside as soon as Scott became school age. She worked as bookkeeper at J. C. Penney for a few years. From there she started at the grain elevator in Herington and worked as a bookkeeper, then office manager, often taking on other tasks, like “probing” wheat, a very taxing and physical undertaking. Working there from 1969-1995 she got to know all the local farming families, which grew to be multi-generational. She was spunky enough working fully in a “man’s” world. She managed to keep some of the grumpy old guys in line, but also endearing herself.

Frances loved her family fiercely. She was proud of her kids and grandkids and was always there to celebrate life’s “big moments” and that also included other relatives and close friends.

She had five grandchildren, Cielo Angelica Fox (Susan’s daughter), May 10, 1975, Brandon Lee Lang, March 25, 1977 (Steve’s son), Nahani Dahlia Fox (Susan’s daughter), May 8, 1978, Joshua Scott Lang (Scott’s son), December 23, 1980, Lindsey Tess Lang (Steve’s daughter), September 22, 1985, granddaughter by marriage Dixie Lang, April 7, 1982.

Frances had her heart forever broken when Brandon was taken from us in an accident, March 12, 2007. The following year, daughter-in-law Jessie (Scott’s wife) April 2008, her brother, Donald Paul suddenly in May 2011. Next heavy blow, she lost her best friend and love, Rich Gehrke July 19, 2012. Then sadly after battling complications from a brain tumor and 25 years of being very disabled, sweet Josh left us October 17, 2015. Most recently, her other daughter-in-law Barbara (Dee Dee, Steve’s wife) Lang passed due to complications of Covid February 3, 2022.

Even though she experienced deep grief and many tragedies, she managed to maintain her fun, spunky wonderful personality!

Besides her family, her greatest legacy was the giving and sharing of her beautiful, crocheted creations. She was extremely talented and exceedingly generous gifting afghans and so many other items. Frances was so organized in everything she did. Although she started crocheting earlier, she started documenting all the creations, what they were, who they went to, and what month and year from 1978-2016! There are upwards of over 250 items, mostly afghans. She also organized photo albums by month and year for over 60 photo albums. &nbsp;She was also very famous for her Christmas candies of at least 8-10 different kinds and numerous varieties of cookies, dessert bars and other tasty treats, of which she shared with lots of family and friends. Other hobbies include being a voracious reader, playing cards, exercising religiously, cooking, loved dancing (had great partners, too) and traveling to visit family out of state, having many fun adventures.

Frances is survived by her children Susan (Kevin) Fox- Sponsler, Steve Lang, Sheri (Rusty) Lang Alvey, Scott Lang, her beautiful granddaughters Cielo (Shann) Fox-Brassfield, Nahani (Drew) Bohan, Lindsey Lang, and beloved great-grandchildren, Kaia and Dylan Bohan.

Frances loved her family and dear friends so much and loved every special celebration in their lives. She was fun, sassy, smart, talented, organized, hardworking and generous.

She often had to ride a stubborn Shetland pony to school, since her mom had to go to school early to start a fire in cold weather, draw water from the well and prepare for the day. When she was very young, most of her clothes were handmade and many dresses were made from decorative feedsack cloth.Frances excelled in school and had dreams of attending college, but instead fell in love. She graduated from Belleville High school at seventeen and married Billy Gene Lang, May 20, 1951. Billy was in the Navy and right after their wedding, set out to start their life. Their first child, Susan Jeanette Lang was born, March 16, 1953, at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. When Billy was discharged, they moved back to Kansas.A job opportunity came available for him to drive semi mail trucks for the Rock Island Railroad in Herington, and they moved there in 1955. Steven Dale Lang was born on November 2, 1955, Sheryl Kay April 2, 1957, and Scott Eugene August 4, 1958.Frances was a full-time wife and homemaker in those first years but also sold Sarah Coventry jewelry for extra income. April 21, 1962, her husband, Billy, tragically died in an accident. At 28 years old, she was to be left with four young children, with no idea how she would support them. Fortunately, she received good advice and had a network of good friends, including her mom and stepdad.Then, God decided she needed a good partner, and she met Richard (Rich) Gehrke! They fell deeply in love, and he took on the huge task of having an instant family. Quite daunting for a thirty-year old bachelor, who was somewhat on the wild side! He lived up to that task and worked his way up to being the supervisor at Greeley Gas. Through ups and downs, thick and thin, they loved each other, were best friends and true partners. And Frances worked right alongside as soon as Scott became school age. She worked as bookkeeper at J. C. Penney for a few years. From there she started at the grain elevator in Herington and worked as a bookkeeper, then office manager, often taking on other tasks, like “probing” wheat, a very taxing and physical undertaking. Working there from 1969-1995 she got to know all the local farming families, which grew to be multi-generational. She was spunky enough working fully in a “man’s” world. She managed to keep some of the grumpy old guys in line, but also endearing herself.Frances loved her family fiercely. She was proud of her kids and grandkids and was always there to celebrate life’s “big moments” and that also included other relatives and close friends.She had five grandchildren, Cielo Angelica Fox (Susan’s daughter), May 10, 1975, Brandon Lee Lang, March 25, 1977 (Steve’s son), Nahani Dahlia Fox (Susan’s daughter), May 8, 1978, Joshua Scott Lang (Scott’s son), December 23, 1980, Lindsey Tess Lang (Steve’s daughter), September 22, 1985, granddaughter by marriage Dixie Lang, April 7, 1982.Frances had her heart forever broken when Brandon was taken from us in an accident, March 12, 2007. The following year, daughter-in-law Jessie (Scott’s wife) April 2008, her brother, Donald Paul suddenly in May 2011. Next heavy blow, she lost her best friend and love, Rich Gehrke July 19, 2012. Then sadly after battling complications from a brain tumor and 25 years of being very disabled, sweet Josh left us October 17, 2015. Most recently, her other daughter-in-law Barbara (Dee Dee, Steve’s wife) Lang passed due to complications of Covid February 3, 2022.Even though she experienced deep grief and many tragedies, she managed to maintain her fun, spunky wonderful personality!Besides her family, her greatest legacy was the giving and sharing of her beautiful, crocheted creations. She was extremely talented and exceedingly generous gifting afghans and so many other items. Frances was so organized in everything she did. Although she started crocheting earlier, she started documenting all the creations, what they were, who they went to, and what month and year from 1978-2016! There are upwards of over 250 items, mostly afghans. She also organized photo albums by month and year for over 60 photo albums. &nbsp;She was also very famous for her Christmas candies of at least 8-10 different kinds and numerous varieties of cookies, dessert bars and other tasty treats, of which she shared with lots of family and friends. Other hobbies include being a voracious reader, playing cards, exercising religiously, cooking, loved dancing (had great partners, too) and traveling to visit family out of state, having many fun adventures.Frances is survived by her children Susan (Kevin) Fox- Sponsler, Steve Lang, Sheri (Rusty) Lang Alvey, Scott Lang, her beautiful granddaughters Cielo (Shann) Fox-Brassfield, Nahani (Drew) Bohan, Lindsey Lang, and beloved great-grandchildren, Kaia and Dylan Bohan.Frances loved her family and dear friends so much and loved every special celebration in their lives. She was fun, sassy, smart, talented, organized, hardworking and generous.We miss you and love you forever!<figure>

Jeffrey L. Danielson, age 54, Clyde, KS, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at North Central Kansas Medical Center, Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born on June 26, 1968 in Concordia, KS to W. Whitney and Maxine J. (Ouellette) Danielson.

He graduated from Clifton-Clyde High School in in 1986.&nbsp; 

Jeff spent most of his life in Salina, where he worked as a cook in several shelter homes.&nbsp; He also assisted a local Salina realtor for several years.&nbsp; Jeff was happiest being around people, as he knew no strangers.

He is survived by his sister Julie Erickson (Tom), Clifton; brothers Michael Danielson (Carol), Pueblo, CO, Gary Danielson (Brenda), Clyde and Jon Danielson, Clyde, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by a son, Stefan B. “Sid” Danielson and his parents.

The family selected cremation and will hold a friends and family gathering at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the LCL Buffalo Ranch, 31 1st Rd, Clifton, KS 66937 with burial following at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde, KS.&nbsp;

Sister Christina Meyer died April 15, 2023, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She was 86 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 71 years. &nbsp;

She was born in Quinter, KS on September 8, 1936, to Jacob and Theresa Phlieger Meyer, the fifth of ten children, and was baptized Christina Marie.&nbsp; 

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on February 2, 1952.&nbsp; On August 14, 1952, Christina received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Mary Cleopha, later changing back to her baptismal name.&nbsp; She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1953 and final vows on September 9, 1957.

In 1968 S. Christina received her BS from Marymount in psychology; followed by a MS in education in 1972 from Kansas State University in Manhattan. In 1988 she received a Certificate in Graduate Studies in applied theology from Graduate Theological Union and School of Applied Theology. &nbsp;She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Chicago, IL; Silver City, NM; Aurora, IL; Fairbury, NE; Gorham, KS; and Gladstone, MI.&nbsp; 

S. Christina served on the Executive Council of the Congregation &nbsp;from 1979 to 1987. &nbsp;She served in several capacities in parish ministry after leaving the Council. She also served in Congregational Ministries as Director of Mission Appeals and Co-Coordinator of the CSJ Justice and Peace Center. &nbsp;In May, 2021, Sister Christina retired to the Motherhouse.

S. Christina Meyer was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She is survived by five sisters and one brother.

A Bible Vigil Service will be held April 21 at 9:30 a.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Marcia Allen as the eulogist.&nbsp; The Mass of Christian Burial will be April 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel with Father Barry Brinkman presiding.&nbsp; The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.&nbsp;

Kathryn "Katie" Nadine Weckel&nbsp;passed away on August 23, 2020, at Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas after a lengthy illness. Katie will be remembered as a loving wife of 69 years to Judge John Weckel, mother to her daughters: Sarah (Fred) Hays and Stephanie (Betsy Marietta). She adored her grandchildren: Ryan Hays of New York City and Nicholas Hays (Caycee) of Lincoln, Nebraska. She lived to see her only great grandchild, Harrison A. Hays.

Katie was born September 18, 1928 and raised in Salina by Nels and Adina Johnson. She lived in Salina most of her life. In 1951, she married John E. Weckel, also a lifelong Salina resident. Together they graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University where they were on the debate team.

She was a dedicated teacher having taught in Wamego, Topeka and Salina, Kansas, impacting the lives of hundreds of students. She is especially remembered for her time at St. John's Military School in Salina.

Katie will long be remembered for her many diverse activities. She was an excellent cook, an accomplished home decorator, and a wonderful seamstress. She was active in many organizations including Helianthus, Twentieth Century and PEO. She is perhaps best known as a Master Gardener, who graduated with the first master gardener class when it was reestablished in Salina. She went on to become its first volunteer coordinator serving four years in this position. Their first project was to convert the Kenwood Park composting site to the Kenwood Park Demonstration Garden. She was also one of the founders of the Saline County Horticulture Club. Katie always had one of the prettiest gardens in Salina and won scores of blue ribbons at gardening competitions. She was always willing to share her extensive knowledge with novice gardeners. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Salina.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to everyone who cared for Katie during her illness including Linda Phelps, Tony Pollock, and all the wonderful caregivers at Presbyterian Manor. Due to the current restrictions related to the pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Employee Christmas Fund at Presbyterian Manor or to Kansas Wesleyan University Scholarship Fund, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 North 8th, Salina 67401.

KANOPOLIS - Karl “Buck” Ploutz, 76, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 in Ellsworth, KS. He was born September 6, 1946 in Ellsworth to Carl and Alice (Bray) Ploutz. 

Karl served in the United States Air Force with tours in Vietnam. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 174.

Karl married Gloria Janzen in Lorraine, KS on May 22, 1971. 

He was a retired school custodian, farmer and rancher, and worked for Chuck Andrews on his ranch. Beyond his associations and accomplishments, Karl was known for his sense of humor and jokes.

Karl is survived by his son Shawn Ploutz (Kendra) of Kanopolis; daughter Jill Jeremenko of Alexandria, VA; son Brian Ploutz (Erin) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Blake Ploutz, Damon Jeremenko, Tori Ploutz, and Tristi Ploutz; sisters, Anita Schwerdtfeger and Linnea Beebe (Kent); and sister-in-law Jean Jones. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gloria; grandson Dalton Ploutz; brothers Ken and Bob Ploutz; and sister Janell Harris.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Family will be present 6-8 p.m.

Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Ellsworth First Presbyterian Church with military honors following at Kanopolis Cemetery.

Evelyn Delores Zimmerman, 88, of Colby, died Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. She was born January 16, 1935, in Flagler, CO, to Homer and Marjorie (Clemans) Mundell. 

Evelyn was raised by her grandmother, Frances Adolph, and graduated from Winona High School.

She was born January 16, 1935, in Flagler, CO, to Homer and Marjorie (Clemans) Mundell. Evelyn was raised by her grandmother, Frances Adolph, and graduated from Winona High School. She then married Doyle J. Zimmerman on June 14, 1953, in Colby. To this union four children were born. Evelyn was a talented seamstress and made the kids clothing. She spent many years as a crossing guard for Colby Elementary School. In 1974, Doyle and Evelyn purchased Hi-Plains Implement. Evelyn went to work as the secretary and enjoyed working side-by-side with her husband until their retirement in 1999. In her free time, Evelyn enjoyed bowling, gardening, riding motorcycles, cooking and cheering on KU basketball. She also liked fishing and going to Trenton Lake. Evelyn had a sharp memory and enjoyed visiting during their regular “Saturday Night Friends Night.” She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Doyle; brothers Cy, Don, Jerry, Rich and Walt, and grandson Mitchell Zimmerman. Evelyn is survived by her children, Deb (Bob) Hedge of Salina, KS, Michael (Lynn) Zimmerman of Hays, KS, Diana (Tim) Flohrschutz of Union, MO, and Darla (Bruce) Jarmer, of Colby; grandchildren Miranda (Dalton) Marshall, Janessa Hedge, Audrey (Mike) Farmer, Nathan (Magdalene) Zimmerman, Drew (Amy) Zimmerman, Skylar Zimmerman, Tim Jr. (Salina) Flohrschutz, Tera (John) Toms, Chelsey (Aimee) Ferguson, Devan (Dane) Zielinski, Aylse (Dylan) Moss and Dylan Dumler; 18 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Irelyn Marshall, Kyler, Zach, Carson and Zaden Farmer, Hunter, Grayson and Amelia Flohrschutz, Maddisyn, Ellyannah, Trenton and Blake Toms, Everett and Etta Ferguson, Kaiden Zielinski, and Stella and Sutton Moss; great-great grandchild Blake Farmer; and sisters Marilyn Ayers and Judy Bastian. Visitation is 4-6:00 p.m., with a vigil at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with burial in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.
