Wesley Wallace Watson, 87, Abilene, flew away peacefully in his sleep at home on March 20, 2023. He was born September 12, 1935 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Edward George and Alice Henrietta (Miller) Watson.

 Wes attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1954, serving on active duty three years, then remaining on reserve status four more years. 

On December 12, 1958 Wes was united in marriage to Doris Deane (Dee) Issitt. They were faithful nearly 56 years, until Dee preceded him in death November 7, 2014. 

Wes drove a truck for Alco and SPD Truck Line for over 40 years. 

Wes is survived by his daughter Kristi (Terry) Symonds of Topeka, and son Brett (Tess) Watson of Oceanside, California; five grandchildren, Grant Symonds, Kalen Gibson, Jamison Malburg, Ashton Tarwater, Carter Watson and Olivia Watson; four great-grandchildren, Greyson, Zoe, Benaiah, Sophia, and a great-grandson due in July; two brothers-in-law, Stan (Leann) Issitt, Abilene and Greg (Liz) Issitt, St. Louis. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, many profoundly influenced by his unique wit and wisdom. 

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Dee, granddaughter Mae Watson and brother Robert Watson. 

Wes requested cremation and “no big fuss.” Private interment will take place at a later time. 

The family suggests memorials be given to Meals on Wheels, Hospice of Dickinson County, Elsie Brooks Cancer Fund, or the Disabled American Veterans. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Mary Helen Bates Ballou passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Nicol Home in Glasco. Mary was born April 12, 1933, to Herman and Ethel Carlson Bates at rural Glasco.

Mary attended Bethel country school and then graduated from Glasco High School in 1950.&nbsp; She attended Kansas State University and graduated in May of 1954 with a degree in home economics.

Mary was married to LaVerne Kenneth Ballou on December 31, 1953, and to this union were born six children:&nbsp; Nancy Kaye, Phillip Wayne, Linda Marie, Larry Kenneth, Gary Dean, and Judy Diane.

Mary’s relationship with Jesus was foremost in her life, followed by her husband and family. 

She was a loving, caring mother and wife who was always on the go. Some of her many side hustles over the years were clothing judge at various county fairs, farm truck driver and caterer, Cub Scout den mother, 4-H leader, seamstress deluxe, Sunday school teacher, United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle, lapidarist, Tupperware consultant, Delphos Museum curator, Wellness Center employee, Federal Grand jurist, auction assistant, grandmother and great-grandmother (Sweet Mama).&nbsp; I’m sure there were others that we couldn’t think of!

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LaVerne in 2020; her children, Nancy in 1958, Gary in 1961, and Larry in 2004; brothers-in-law, Alvin Ballou and Warren Curtis; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Curtis and Maxine Apple.

She is survived by her brother Gregory and wife Jeannie Bates of South Dakota; her sister-in-law Barbara Ballou of Bonner Springs; her children Phil and wife Karen Ballou of Minneapolis, Linda, and husband David Hood of Miltonvale, and Judy and husband Brett Weis of Salina.&nbsp;&nbsp; She is also survived by grandchildren Marc, Matthew, and John Gawith, Michael, Tom, Heidi, and Lyndsi Pudge, Justin Hood, and Nathan and Shane Miller and 14 great-grandchildren; plus numerous nieces, and nephews.

Mary donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Memorial services will be Friday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Words of Light Fellowship in Delphos, with a lunch following.&nbsp; There will be a private graveside in Bethel Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp;

Memorials can be made to the Words of Light Fellowship in Delphos, the Delphos Museum, or the Nicol Home in Glasco and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

Emma Beth (Crawford) Rutz was born March 20, 1936, in Girard, Kansas. She passed away two days after her 87th&nbsp;birthday, on March 22, 2023. Beth was the second daughter of Russell and Thelma (Windbigler) Crawford, and had an older sister, Ann, and younger sister, Mary Jane.&nbsp;

Beth attended Parsons High, where she played the bass violin in high school. She shared about having her guy friends carry the big violin for her, because it was too heavy. 

She worked at an ice cream shop as a teenager, and it is there that she met the love of her life, Jim, who was attending the local community college to play football. A little known fact about Beth, is that she was engaged to another young man, when she met Jim.&nbsp;Her fiancée was in the military, and she wrote him a “Dear John” letter to break off their engagement. I guess that Beth just knew when she met Jim, that he was the one for her. They dated nine months and were married August 17th, 1956.

Just shy of their first anniversary, Jim and Beth welcomed their first child into the world. Elizabeth Jane was born fifteen days before their anniversary. It was only sixteen short months later that their second daughter, Julie Ann, arrived. Although Libby was quite satisfied at being an only child, she would get used to being a big sister to Julie soon enough.&nbsp; They remained a family of four for over seven years.

Early on in their marriage, Beth was a telephone operator in Herington, KS and worked nights at her job. Jim would take care of his two small daughters, and his specialty dinner was fried bologna and Campbell’s chicken noodle soup.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Though Beth had her hands full with two small girls so close in age, after the sisters had grown some, she and Jim decided to expand their family.&nbsp; On June 18th, 1966, they welcomed their first and only son, Stephen James, into the world. Just like before, Steve was not the baby for very long. Just over two years later, on October 2nd, 1968, Teresa Lyn came along and made the family a family of six.&nbsp; Steve was quite satisfied with being the baby, but Teresa took over that position, and has remained the youngest of four.

In Beth’s early forties she went back to school and attended Brown Mackie College to receive a secretarial degree. She would drive every day about an hour one way to go to class, having Steve and Teresa still at home to get on the bus before she left for her drive. She went for nine months, and practiced her shorthand at night and studied hard to achieve good grades in her classes. She did all this to help supplement the family’s income.

 Shortly after receiving her diploma, the family moved to Springfield, Colorado. There, she used her skill from college, to work for a dental office for several years. She enjoyed her job in the dental office with Dr. Branes, and the patients liked seeing Beth’s warm smile when going to their appointments. In 1987, after their youngest graduated from high school, Jim and Beth moved to Goodland, Kansas. Again, Beth used her skills from college and became a ward clerk for the Goodland Hospital.&nbsp; The couple lived in Goodland until three years ago in May.

In May of 2020, Jim and Beth moved to Minneapolis to be closer to their two older daughters. It was hard for Beth to leave their home in Goodland, but was what was best for Jim, since he had been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s, and had other health issues that required medical assistance.

Beth was a devoted mother, and always put her children before herself. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, and was happiest when she was around all her family. There was not anything she wouldn’t do for her children. She was patient, kind, and loving. She was a great example to her family and others that knew her. She loved to laugh, and her laughter was contagious.

Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, just two and a half months ago. She was heartbroken without him and it is a true testament of their love that she wanted to be with him after he passed. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and both sisters.

Beth is survived by her four children,&nbsp; Libby Brown of Minneapolis, KS; Julie and Barry Nelson, of Delphos, KS; Steve Rutz, of Goodland, KS; and Teresa and Eric Jaquez, of Albuquerque, NM. Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 3 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Burial will be in New Basel Cemetery, Abilene. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Living Cornerstone Fellowship Church&nbsp;of Delphos, KS, and will be in the care of the funeral home.

Bambi Diane Rowson, of Salina, passed away on March 22, 2023.

Bambi was born in Salina on March 21, 1963. 

Bambi graduated from Southeast of Saline in 1981. At Southeast, she played varsity volleyball, sang for two years in Madrigals, and played the French horn in the band. She was the slow-pitch pitcher for the Assaria team, sponsored by Nelson Appliances. 

Bambi attended North Park University in Chicago for two years, played volleyball, and enjoyed singing in the choir; she was the only freshman girl to make the choir. Bambi graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1994, as a music major, singing in the choir.

The sport of volleyball was her favorite as a player, and later as a referee at the junior high and high school levels. She loved the music of the Grateful Dead. Her favorite Christian song was “Be Thou My Vision.”

Bambi was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy in 2008.

 She is survived by her father Garry, several uncles, aunts, cousins, classmates, and friends.

Bambi chose cremation, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th in Salina, with inurnment following the service at Mission Hill Cemetery, in Smolan.

Donations can be made to the Bambi Rowson Memorial Fund, in care of Children Ministries at the First Covenant Church, 2625 E. Magnolia, Salina.

William “Bill” Dean Long, 93, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Ascension via Christi Villa Ridge in Wichita. He was born January 19, 1930 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Hazel (Hoffman) Long. Bill grew up in Hesston. He graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering. He worked for Hesston Corporation for 25 years as an engineer. Bill later worked for Clark Equipment in North Dakota as the VP of engineering for 20 years. He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Hesston. Bill also used to belong to the Shriners and the Elks Club. Bill is survived by his four children, Gary (Shauna) Long of Goddard, Jo Ann Thaden of Wichita, Betty (Park) Norris of El Dorado, and John (Nancy) Long of Wamego; seven grandchildren, Nick Norris, Tyler Norris, Chelsea Mayans, Levi Long, Hannah Long, Austin Long, and Kyle Long; four great-grandchildren, plus two on the way; and two sisters, Susan (Royce) Enns of Hesston, and Patricia Bond of Lebanon, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Margaret Long; brother Samuel Long; and brother-in-law Kenneth Bond. Cremation is planned. Services are pending and will be announced and held at a later date.

Becky Joy Just Rageth, passed away on March 21, 2023, surrounded by family at KU Medical Center after a difficult battle with cancer. A lifetime resident of Salina, Becky was born on Sept 11, 1953 to Ardis (Bevan) and Louis “Buster” Just. 

Becky attended Salina High School and was part of the first graduating class of Salina South in 1971. 

She worked in bookkeeping for many years before opening her own business, The Emporium, in 1998.

Becky Joy was a “joy” to all who knew and loved her. She had a kind, loving heart and a giving, generous nature. She loved making quilts and pillowcases for her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling for business and family vacations with her grandsons. A country music fan, she saw many of her favorite musicians in concert. She also enjoyed watching KU basketball games, win or lose! Her love of family was the source of her happiness.

She was preceded in death by her father Louis “Buster” Just; dad Arlen Darrel Sutton; and granddaughter Kelly Lynn Rageth.

She is survived by her children Bryan (Lucinda) Rageth and Sara Rageth; her grandsons Dylon, Auston, Brannon and Chayton Rageth; and her mother Ardis Sutton – all of Salina, KS.

She is also survived by her siblings April (Denny) Boyer, Littleton, CO; Cheri Smock, Salina; Dena (Ray) Starnes, Aurora, CO; and Jeff Sutton, Salina; her stepmother Jeannette Just, Longmont, CO; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will be forever loved and missed by all.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Ryan Mortuary.

Henry “Lee” Hoff, 88, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on March 21, 2023.

Lee was born on the farm in Ellis County, Kansas on May 10, 1934 to parents Henry A. Hoff and Margaret E. (Munk) Hoff.

Lee moved to Salina in 1953.&nbsp; He was drafted into the US Army in 1955 and served until 1958.&nbsp; 

He worked at Wyatt’s Mfg. until 1962.&nbsp; Lee and his father, Henry A., started Hoff’s Machine &amp; Welding, Inc. in 1962.&nbsp; Lee retired in 2019.

Lee married Carol Schuckman on May 6, 1961 in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; They were married for 61 years and have three children and three grandchildren.

Lee is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in law, Robert Waldman.

Lee is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Michelle Hoff; sons Michael Hoff (Jamie) and Mark Hoff (Deirdre); and grandchildren Zane Hoff, Samantha Hoff, and Sadie Hoff, all of Salina.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother Don Hoff (Pauline) of Dallas, Texas; sisters Maida Waldman of Dodge City, Kansas and Odie Wilson (Don) of Plano, Texas; sisters-in-law Patricia Thibault of Hays, Kansas and Shirley Andrla (Ed) of Salina, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A public visitation will be held Monday, March 27, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary in Salina.&nbsp; The funeral mass and burial will be private.

Jean loved quilting, bingo and casinos. She was a member of Silver Needles, VFW Auxiliary and made and donated many quilts to charity. 

Jean worked at Tony’s and held several positions at the Salina Regional Health Center.

Jean is survived by her husband Kenneth; a daughter, Jaqualin (Bob) Whitcomb; and her brothers Sam (Donna) Wyss and Harvey Wyss. She has grandsons, Kiowa, Chad and Kaleb and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Eddie and beloved dog Marble.

Funeral services will be held April 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth, Salina.

On March 19th, 2023 God, in his infinite wisdom and divine love, released our beloved Gregory Keith Smith “Greg” from all Earthly limitations and granted him everlasting peace and serenity. Greg was born on July 25th, 1969 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. 

He was educated in the Cumberland County School System where he graduated from Southview High School.

 At an early age, he joined Swan’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church. After relocating to Kansas, he joined Mercy Church in Olathe and Revolution Church in Salina.

In 1987, he began his four-year service in the Army as a helicopter mechanic. After his time there, he briefly worked at Lockheed Martin in Kansas before returning to Virginia to work for McDonald Douglas. He worked as a corrections officer at the Saline County Sheriff’s Department before being accepted into the 30th recruit class of the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1996. In 2000, he was promoted to Master Trooper.&nbsp; He was promoted to Field Supervisor Lieutenant in 2016 and served until his retirement in May of 2022.

Greg was proceeded in death by his father, Rev. William Gregory Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Misti May Smith; four children, Jordan Alexandra Smith, Caroline Sue Hurst, Brianna Marie Smith, and Andrew Paul Goltl; his mother Mattie Smith of Hope Mills, North Carolina; and his two sisters, Sharon Regina Barham and Tondalaya Richardson; as well as a grandbaby, Kaia Rae Marie Kemp.

Greg had a contagious smile and he valued community. He made everyone around him feel safe and loved, and he shared the love of the Lord with everyone he could. He could always be counted on for a comforting hug, a good laugh, or a word of prayer. 

He made lifelong friends in the bowling alley and made for a great partner on the tennis court. He competed in bowling and tennis tournaments around the country and made it to USTA Nationals. He was proud of his accomplishments on and off the court but even more so of his daughters. He will be missed by many now that he has found everlasting peace with the Lord.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 at First Covenant Church, 2625 E Magnolia Rd., Salina.

After his time there, he briefly worked at Lockheed Martin in Kansas before returning to Virginia to work for McDonald Douglas. He worked as a corrections officer at the Saline County Sheriff’s Department before being accepted into the 30th recruit class of the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1996. In 2000, he was promoted to Master Trooper.&nbsp; He was promoted to Field Supervisor Lieutenant in 2016 and served until his retirement in May of 2022.Greg was proceeded in death by his father, Rev. William Gregory Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Misti May Smith; four children, Jordan Alexandra Smith, Caroline Sue Hurst, Brianna Marie Smith, and Andrew Paul Goltl; his mother Mattie Smith of Hope Mills, North Carolina; and his two sisters, Sharon Regina Barham and Tondalaya Richardson; as well as a grandbaby, Kaia Rae Marie Kemp.Greg had a contagious smile and he valued community. He made everyone around him feel safe and loved, and he shared the love of the Lord with everyone he could. He could always be counted on for a comforting hug, a good laugh, or a word of prayer. He made lifelong friends in the bowling alley and made for a great partner on the tennis court. He competed in bowling and tennis tournaments around the country and made it to USTA Nationals. He was proud of his accomplishments on and off the court but even more so of his daughters. Delbert passed away Friday, March 17, 2023, while in the company of 
family and friends at McPherson Center for Health. He had attained the 
age of 93 years old. 

Delbert was born in Wamego, Kansas on May 
22, 1929, to Ruth (Berroth) and Matt Bohn. He was one of 8 children; 
Charles, Jean, Bernice, Dave, Adella, Judy, and Larry. Delbert attended 
school at Rural District 48 in Alma, Kansas and took his first job at 
Hoffinstein Construction. He was united in his first marriage to Ilene 
Glenn in 1948. They were blessed with four daughters; Cindy, Tina, 
Debbie, and Toni. Delbert was united in marriage to Maxine Wash on 
November 21, 1965. Maxine had two children; Carolyn and Kenneth. Delbert
 made his home in McPherson, Kansas with his wife Maxine and 6 children.


 He was a lifelong professional truck driver for over 40 years. He drove
 for various companies including Otis Bryant Trucking, Don Linden 
Trucking, Ryan Reiff, and Farmland hauling freight, gasoline, propane, 
and ammonia. Delbert had an exemplary driving record totaling 3 million 
miles with no accidents. He had a great eye because he never missed 
anything lying on the side of the road. His sheds were always full of 
screwdrivers, tarp straps, wrenches, pliers, and more of the items he 
found during his time over the road. 

When he wasn’t driving a truck, he 
loved to spend time with his family and was an avid gardener. He was 
known for sharing his garden spoils and would deliver them to friends 
and family in the area. He also loved tractors, spending time at the VFW
 and Legion having dinner with friends, and feeding squirrels and birds 
in his backyard. Delbert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church 
in McPherson, Kansas. 

He is survived by his wife Maxine Bohn of the 
home; children, Carolyn Shamet &amp; Dean Henry of McPherson, KS, 
Kenneth Wash and wife Janice of Olathe, KS, Cindy Hertlein and husband 
Mike of Topeka, KS, Tina Hamilton and husband Brian of Salina, KS, 
Debbie Harman of Salina, KS, and Toni Thompson and husband Greg of 
Bastrop, TX. His siblings Adella Parks, McPherson, Judy Oppenlander, 
Wamego, Larry Bohn, Alma, close friend Mike Krehbiel, McPherson, many 
nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Delbert had 14 Grandchildren,

Robert Gene Gould, age 69, of Concordia, KS passed away Friday March 17, 2023 at his home in Concordia, KS. He was born June 5, 1953, at Concordia, KS, son of Jack D. and Phyllis Gile Gould. In 1971 he graduated from Concordia High School. He then went to work in the family business; Gould’s Implement, with his father and grandfather. After his father retired, he went to work at Wilson’s Furniture, Concordia Furniture, and then Sherwin Williams until his retirement.

Robert loved to travel, especially his many trips to Africa and extensively throughout Europe. He also enjoyed many road trips with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James.

Survivors include his identical twin Brother Richard Jack Gould, Concordia, KS, and brother Lee (Debbie), Salina, KS, and a nephew Jared (Kelly), Great Niece Julie, Waco, TX, and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends.

Robert Gene Gould

Norman Joseph Apel, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 
22, 2023, at home with his wife, Mary and family by his side. He was 
born on February 27, 1929, on the family farm north of Ellinwood, Kan. 
to Mathias &amp; Barbara (Heyne) Apel.

He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1947, and Married F. 
Marilyn Eves on November 28, 1950. He and Marilyn had five children and 
divorced in 1978. Norman worked on the family farm and in the oilfield 
including, Globe Oil Well Cementing and Allied Cementing, out of Great 
Bend, Kan. He then married Gladys Price on August 9, 1980, and she 
passed in March 2015.

He was an active volunteer member of the Assembly of God (now 
Encounter) Church for many years, driving the Sunday school bus and many
 other activities. He continued farming while working for Harv’s 
furniture, Mid Continent LP Service&nbsp; and was a part time driver for 
Marmie Motors.

He then later married Mary Arlene Bieberle on June 25, 2017. They 
enjoyed traveling, church activities, watching Westerns and old 
cartoons, and spending time together.

Survivors include, his wife Mary of the home; his children, Briana 
Ernst (Larry) of Great Bend, Gerilyn Hoard of Salina, Amy Astrab 
(Robert) of Hollister, Mo., and David Apel of Salina, Michael Price 
(Loretta) of Wichita, Bobby Price (Ina) of Cushing, Okla., Eddie Price 
(Karen) and Terry Price (Shelly) all of Great Bend, and Sherry Cox 
(Shawn) of Derby; one sister, Mary Jean Miller (Dick) of Great Bend; 27 
grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Gladys; one
 son, Gary Duane Apel; son in law, Mark Hoard; a brother, Harry Apel; 
two sisters, Sally Sigley and Theresa Wornkey; a granddaughter, Tamara 
(Apel) Green; a grandson, Jason Hoard; and two great grandsons, Chance 
Streit and Carlin Hill Jr.

James LeRoy Miller (Jim), 76, of Salina passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023.&nbsp;

Jim was born in Monrovia, California, on December 3, 1946 to John and Joan (Foreman) Miller. He was the second of five children and enjoyed spending quality time with each of his siblings. One of his favorite memories as a teenager was spending time at his grandparents’ with his cousins. Throughout his childhood the family moved around a lot and because of that, he attended 13 schools.&nbsp;

At an early age, Jim became a single father to his three children. Although it was not easy working long hours and caring for three children, he made sure they were well taken care of and loved.&nbsp;

Jim met the love of his life, Barbara (Pridey) Miller and married her on April 4, 1981. Together they raised their three children, Rebbecca, Kolene, and James.

Most of his adult life was spent as a Rainbo bread salesman, where he served as the union steward. He took pride in his career and enjoyed those whom he served.&nbsp;

Jim was a very active member of his church, serving in various roles. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. Jim spent many years serving at the Salina Rescue Mission and enjoyed counseling the men and heading the annual Christmas dinners. Family was very important to Jim, and he especially loved spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jim was a kind man who was loved by all. He was full of wisdom and integrity. Jim held his faith very close to him and that could be seen by the way he lived life.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Barb of almost 42 years; daughter, Rebbecca (Jimmie) Covert; son, James Miller; son-in-law, Donald Smith; grandchildren, Jonathan Covert, Justean (Galen) Ryman, Cody (Jessica) Covert, Dustin (Bre) Covert, Katherine Boutz, Amanda (Sam) Wasinger, Sierra Hollis, Tiffany (Richard) Miller; 9 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Skeeter Miller; siblings, John (Rosemary) Miller, Sherry (Larry) Cunningham, Patti Hysom; step siblings, Greg Crenshaw, and Cynthia Crenshaw; and many other extended family and friends.&nbsp;

Howard Milton Smith, 93, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Inman, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp;

Howard served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.&nbsp; He retired from the maintenance department at NCRA Refinery where he worked for 34 years.&nbsp; Prior to the refinery, he worked for Santa Fe Railroad.&nbsp;

Howard was born on March 2, 1930, in McPherson, KS, the son of Ray A. and Mildred Helen (Rump) Smith.&nbsp; He graduated from Inman High School in 1948.&nbsp;

 On February 11, 1951, Howard was united in marriage to Vivian Carol Briggs at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom.&nbsp; Two children were born to this union, Perry and Norene.&nbsp; Howard and Vivian were married for 70 years prior to her passing on July 23, 2021.

He was a lifelong member of Andover Lutheran Church, Windom and associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Perry Smith (Krista) of Great Bend, KS; a daughter, Norene Kerschen (Daniel) of Garden Plain, KS; seven grandchildren, Emily Pauly (Ethan), Jon Kerschen (Emily), Rachel Schmidt (Jeffrey), Keith Kerschen, Kim Hay (Marshall), Kelsey Sciacca (Adam), and Mason Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Helen Smith; wife Vivian Smith; brothers John Smith and Glen Smith; &nbsp;sister Gladys Meek; and twin sister Helen Regehr.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 27, followed by a luncheon at Trinity Lutheran Church followed &nbsp;with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating.&nbsp; A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, at North Inman Cemetery.

SALINA -&nbsp;Brenda Lea Herring, 57, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023. She was born on July 7, 1965 in Spangler, PA to Roger A. and Elizabeth L. (Bender) Naylor

Survivors include her husband Steven R. Herring; her children Matthew and Morgan; and grandchildren Mateo and Dominic.&nbsp; Surviving siblings include Roger Naylor, Jr. (Lisa), Michelle Compton (Mike) and Deb Marseline, all of Salina.&nbsp; She was a beloved aunt to five nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roger A. and Elizabeth (Betty) Naylor and granddaughter Luna.

Brenda was proud to serve the area as an L.P.N., working for many years as a nurse in corrections, elder care, and private duty.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E. Neal Avenue Salina, KS.&nbsp; Memorials may be made to Salina Ambucs or The American Red Cross.

She lived most of her life in Salina but also lived in Laramie, Wyoming for a short time.Jo worked at Consolidated Printing for over 30 years. She was also a volunteer baseball coach for the Salina Parks and Recreation and a foster grandparent at Schilling Elementary.Jo had a passion for music. From jazz, oldies, Tejano to blues, she loved it all.&nbsp; For many summers, she would be waiting at the beginning of the line to get into the River Festival to mark her place for the weekend.Jo’s family was everything to her. She was married to the love of her life, Frank, for 63 years. From this marriage, six children were brought into the world,Susan (Karl) of Texas, David (Norma) of Salina, Sarah Jane (Robert) of Texas, Jimmy (Passed away in Michigan, June 2021), Roxan (Bert) of Salina, and John of Osage City. Jo and Frank also had seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Joshua of New York, Sarhan (Gonzalo) of Salina, Victoria of Salina, Angela of Florida, Rachel of Salina, Olivia of Hays, Emery of Osage City and Liam, Madison, both of Salina, and Birdie of Hays.Joann was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Jim Colliver, sons Robert and Jimmy Camarena, and beloved husband, Frank.Visitation and Funeral will be held at Ryan Mortuary of Salina on Friday, March 24th, visitation at 1:00 and funeral at 2:00.
