Dale Ray Johnson

Dale Ray Johnson was born on July 5, 1938, to Harold and Mildred (Osbun) Johnston. He spent his school years going to Marion Schools, graduating with the Class of 1957. During High School, Dale joined the Army National Guard. After graduating, Dale joined the Army. One of his highlights was serving in Alaska when it became a state. After discharge, he moved to Anthony, KS, where he met Betty Wiens. They were married on September 05, 1964, in Wichita. Their son Troy was born in Anthony in 1965.
The family moved to Caldwell in 1966 after purchasing a Standard Oil filling station. Their daughter Danette was born in Caldwell in 1968. After selling the filling station, Dale delivered fuel to farms for Standard Oil. He purchased KanOkla Auto Supply and ran it for several years before working as a machinist in Wellington. In 1994, Dale and Betty moved to his hometown of Marion, KS where he became sexton at the Marion Cemetery. Dale was a volunteer fireman for 25 years in Caldwell and 10 years in Marion. NASCAR races was his every weekend enjoyment. K-State sports was also a passion. In his retirement, going to events of the grandchildren was what he liked to do.
Dale leaves behind his wife, Betty; son, Troy, and wife Lynnea; daughter, Dannette, and husband, William Jackson; grandchildren Aaron (Brooke), Danica (Jake), Cory, Sierra, and Bryson; great-grandchildren Landon, Daxton, Tessa, Audra, Gracylynn, Rose and Araya. He leaves behind two sisters Wanda (Dewayne) Waring and Barbara Craney.
Dale passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Marie, Vera, Linda, Shirley, Harold, Larry, Wayne, and Leslie. His family will gather with friends for his memorial service on Tuesday November 21, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Valley United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest with military honors following the service in Marion Cemetery. Yazel Megli Funeral Home is serving the family.
