Betty Joan Hunt Morris passed away on November 8, 2023, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 94 after a short battle with pneumonia.
Betty was born on May 19, 1929, to Lloyd and Eva Hunt in Concordia, Kansas. After graduating from Minneapolis High School, she met and later married a handsome sailor, Roy Lee Morris, on August 8, 1948. They were married for almost 52 years.
Betty and Roy Lee welcomed their first child, Susan, on November 8, 1949. They added three more children to their family in the following years: Catherine (1951), Mary Frances (1955), and Philip (1960).
Betty raised her family in Minneapolis, Kansas. She was a homemaker then later worked for 27 years in food service at the Ottawa County Hospital. She enjoyed sewing, cooking (was renowned for her cinnamon rolls and pies), crocheting and RV travel. She was an active member of Community Bible Church in Minneapolis, Kansas. Betty resided in Minneapolis until she relocated to Texas in 2015 to be closer to family.
Betty never met a conversation she didn’t like or a stranger that couldn’t become a friend. She was quick to laugh, often at herself, and was a "people person" -- kind, servant-hearted, and selfless. But most of all, she embodied what it means to love unconditionally.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Lee (2000) and her daughters Cathy Guy Merriman (2019) and Sue Etherington (2023). She is survived by her daughter Fran Stoddard and son Phil Morris, his wife Liz, sons-in-law Chuck Etherington and Jim Merriman, six grandchildren and their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren (with two more due in December 2023). Her faith was a legacy to her family and the reflected light of Jesus in the world. Her favorite verse was Isaiah 40:31 -- "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
A family graveside service will be held in Minneapolis, Kansas, in spring 2024.
