Leona Ruth Blodgett

Leona Ruth Blodgett passed away on November 20, 2023, at her home in Detroit. She was born December 12, 1935, in Enterprise the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Picking) Peterson. Leona married Omer Lee “Hank” Blodgett on November 21, 1960.
Leona is survived by two sisters, Mary Bever of Florida, Teena Krause of Hutchinson, her sons James (Rhonda) Blodgett of Wichita, Ronald (Kandra) Blodgett of College Station, Texas, seven grandchildren Chad Anderson of Salina, Erica (Freddie) Hurt of Junction City, Nicky (Mike) Harder of Salina, Heather (Brian) Slater of Salina, Monica Harder of Auburn, Christine Blodgett of Detroit, Michael Blodgett of College Station, Texas, twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband Omer, sons David Blodgett, Michael Blodgett, sisters Beverly Krisher, Connie Amburgey, and her parents.
Leona graduated from Enterprise High School. After high school, she moved to Denver and worked as a model for a while. She moved back to Kansas and started a career in finance with the civil service. This job took her from Salina to Austin, Texas and back to Salina. After Schilling Sir Force Base shut down, she transferred to Fort Riley. She was the Chief of Military Pay, Finance Department, when she retired after 30-plus years. After retirement, she began to travel and helping Omer in the moving business which took them all over the United States.
They built a house in Detroit and resided there from 1970 until she passed.
Before Leona started to travel, her favorite pastime was bowling. She was on several leagues and enjoyed traveling to tournaments around the country.
Leona always enjoyed a house full of family and friends (the more the merrier), she believed in an open-door policy. She liked spending her time watching her family in their activities.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Her final resting place will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise. Family and friends are welcome to the visitation on Friday evening from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
