Darrell L. Small, of Stockton, KS, passed away on November 15, 2023, at the Phillips County Assisted Living Center in Phillipsburg, KS, at the age of 86. He was born on August 13, 1937, in Lebanon, KS, and was adopted to Virgil and Phyllis Small and raised by his dear grandma, Anna (Frydendall) Small. He married Margie Weigant on November 14, 1959. They were blessed with two children: Jeffrey and Jodi. Margie passed away in 2013.
Darrell grew up and attended school in Smith Center, KS. He served in the National Guard for eight years. He was self-employed for Rooks County Dairy, Meadow Gold Dairy and Roberts Dairy. He was a custodian for Stockton schools for 20 plus years where he grew to love the kids and they loved him. In his earlier years, he refereed basketball games. He also mowed lawns for 15 plus years and was honored to be the Grand Marshall for Stockton. Darrell was a Lions Club Member, past school board member, and served on the Valley View Apartment Advisory Board.
Darrell loved his coffee groups, was a big KU and KC Royals fan, and took great pride in his community. He and Marge spent many years vacationing and going on bus tours. Darrell was always ready to come home to his beloved town! Darrell was a good-hearted man that worked hard and loved his family and special companion, Donna Duntz from Smith Center.
Darrell is survived by his son, Jeff (Priscila Iakel) Small of Bismark, ND; daughter, Jodi (Mike) Brull of Salina, KS; three grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla) Small, Ty Brull and Carter Brull; three great-grandchildren, Nora and twins Levi and Logan; and special companion, Donna Duntz.
Preceding Darrell in death is his dad, Virgil Small; beloved grandmother, Anna Small, and wife Margie.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 10AM at the funeral home in Stockton. Visitation will be on Friday 5-8PM with the family receiving friends 6--8PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
