Pastor Earl Jack Haggard, 69, of Cawker City, Kansas, and formerly of
 Russell, Kansas, entered into his eternal reward on &nbsp;Thursday, April 
13, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System Hospital in Kansas 
City, Kansas.

Earl was born on February 9, 1954, in Abilene, Kansas, the son of 
Cliff Youngblood “Jack” and Delores May (Rager) Haggard.&nbsp; The family 
moved to Texas and Earl lived there until he was in the 6th 
grade then moved back to Abilene.&nbsp; He finished his schooling at Abilene 
High School in the class of 1972.&nbsp; He met, fell in love, and was united 
in marriage to Paula Miles on December 16, 1977, in Huntington, 
Indiana.&nbsp; From this union Earl and Paula were blessed with a daughter 
Hannah.&nbsp; Early in life, he was called into full time Christian Ministry.
 Through his affiliation with the United Brethren Church, and the United
 Methodist Church, he served churches in Colby, Abilene, Gypsum, Kipp, 
Russell Otterbein, Bunker Hill, Independence, Cawker City and Glen Elder
 Kansas. He also served in Junction City, Ohio. He enjoyed researching 
genealogy, reading, watching crime TV, spending time with his friends 
and family and was a fanatical Dallas Cowboys fan.

The surviving family includes his wife Paula, daughter Hannah and dog
 Archibald Oscar all of the home.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his 
parents, brother Dean Haggard, special aunt Bertie Boaz, who helped 
raise him, and his beloved dog, Brutus Alexander.

A celebration of Pastor Earl’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on 
Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in 
Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Later that day, a graveside service will be held at 
3:00 P.M. at the Abilene Memorial Cemetery in Abilene, Kansas. Pastor 
Earl loved bright colors, and since this is a celebration of his life, 
the family asks that you wear bright colors on Wednesday! Visitation 
will be held at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, 
from 9:00 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, with family 
greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday evening.&nbsp; 

In lieu of 
flowers, the family has requested memorials be given to the Russell Food 
Pantry and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary

Stephen L. Mick, 71, Minneapolis, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; He was born August 17, 1951, in Beloit to James and Leola (Belden) Mick.

Steve was a 1969 graduate of Bennington High School.&nbsp; 

After serving a four year apprenticeship, he worked for 44 years with the Local 441 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union where he became a foreman and supervisor. 

He also served six years in the United States Air Force Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 35 years, Patricia (Simpson) Mick; and his brother, Michael Mick; and stepbrother, Gary Copple.

Survivors are his wife Karen; daughters Sharie Thille and Kris Schwartz and her husband Mitch; stepson, DuWayne Suffield and his wife Jodi; brother Norman Mick and his wife Nancy; sister-in-law Leanna Mick; stepbrothers Roger and John Copple; grandchildren Alyssa, Kaden, and Ky Schwartz, Morgan, Logan, and Leiryn Thille; Braden and Mallory Suffield, and Bryce and Meggan Suffield; great-grandchildren Hayley and Caleb Suffield, Presley Werth, Dexter and Asher Dreher, and Leonard and Theoden Pinzenscham; mother-in-law, Irmagene Goodman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marvin Elm, age 86, died at the Washington County Hospital on April 12, 2023.&nbsp;

 He was born the youngest of four, and only boy to Andrew and Laura (Schwalm) Elm in Baldwin City, KS on July 26, 1936.&nbsp; 

Marvin graduated from Assaria High School in 1954. 

He married RaNay Schiffman on April 12, 1958, in Seattle Washington. To this union two sons and a daughter were born, Kevin, Brian, and Kimberly.&nbsp; 

Marvin worked as the branch manager at the Clay Center office for Interstate Securities Company. He then worked for Conseco Finance in Topeka, KS retiring in 2001. 

Marvin and RaNay spent their retirement years traveling the continental United States in their motor home, eventually settling in San Benito, TX in 2015. They moved to Morganville in 2021.&nbsp; 

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian; and his sisters, Mildred, Esther, and Lorraine.

Grandchildren: Amanda Davis, Kyle and Echoe Davis, Caleb and Kristi Davis, Kathryn Elm and Kyle Olvera and Bryan Elm

Leo M. Baker, 89, Minneapolis, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis.&nbsp; He was born January 7, 1934, in Ottawa County to Guy and Ina (Smith) Baker.

Leo was a 1951 graduate of Minneapolis High School, and he served in the United States Army from 1955-56.&nbsp; 

He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Liby, on June 21, 1953. 

He worked for the City of Minneapolis for 42 years and served on the Minneapolis Fire Department for 31 years. Leo was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3201 and the First United Methodist Church.

Evelyn passed away on February 26, 1981. He married his second love, Marilyn Breneman Smith, on December 10, 1981. They were married for 41 special years.

Besides Evelyn, he was preceded in death by his parents; son Kenny Baker; grandson Doug Cain; and sister Norma Lee Johnson.

Survivors are his wife Marilyn; daughters Darla Cain-Karst and her husband Sam and Sandra Hendrix and her husband Kenny; sons Mike Smith and his wife Kim, Mark Smith and his wife Kellea, and Marvin Smith; grandchildren Matt Villalpando, Devon Hart and her husband Dan, Mark Cain and his wife Sarah, Jessica Owens and her husband Tyrel, Kassi Jones and her husband Scott, Sheyanne Krier and her husband, Alijah, Zach Smith and his fiance Lauren Cyr, Drew Smith and his wife Fayth, Alyssa Breen and her husband Garrett, Trevor Smith and his wife Nikki, Amanda Ervin and her husband Derek, and James Villalpando and his fiancé Cait; and 17 great-grandchildren. Family was everything to Leo, and he loved his family dearly.

Lloyd Elmer Stanton was born December 26, 1939, in Parkville, Missouri, the son of Jaspar and Arlene (Carver) Stanton. 

He graduated high school from Jennings (Kansas) then went on to Kansas City Community College where he studied business law and accounting. 

In 1966, he married Sharon (Guise) Brown, who had been widowed. Without hesitation, Lloyd took on the responsibility of Sharon’s three children and they were blessed with a daughter. Lloyd was united in marriage to Leanna (Becker) Goosman on May 19, 2018.

Having lost the lower part of his left leg as a child in a farm accident, Lloyd did not let that slow him down. His artificial leg was just as much of a tool to him as his hammer (it came in handy when dogs on a job site needed something to bite). He could climb ladders, roof houses, and put in skylights–it didn’t matter what it was, Lloyd could do it.

Lloyd was a loving father, husband, and friend. He came to know the Lord in his early 20s and continued to walk in faith throughout his life. Lloyd relied on God’s strength through thick and thin; God was always faithful to provide. He regularly attended church until he was physically unable to. Even when he could no longer go to church, he and Leanna hosted Bible studies in their home.

Lloyd spent 20 years in the mortgage banking business and over 30 years doing construction and remodeling. He was loved by many and always aimed to please. He did everything with excellence and was a true craftsman when it came to his fine woodwork. With Lloyd you could count on humility (he often said, “I’m just a carpenter”) and laughter.

Lloyd passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023. 

He is survived by his loving wife Leanna of Bennington; children Cynthia Frese and husband Glen of Montrose, Colorado, Steven Brown and wife Erma of Salina, Karen Gray and husband Glenn of Francesville, Indiana, and Sheryl Allen and husband Darrel of Little Rock, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren, Suzanne Birk, Terry Frese, Raymond Brown, Rhonda Cox, James Brown, Andrew Brown, Anthony Gray, Jason Gray, Heather Allen, and Bobbie Lynn Mulberry; 20 great-grandchildren; stepsons Brady and Barry Blake and nine stepgrandchildren; sister, Marge Prince of Missouri and brother Gail Bailey of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harold Stanton and his wife Sharon; and three grandchildren, Heidi Gray, and Keith and Jacob Mulberry.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Bennington Bible Church, 824 N. Nelson, Bennington, KS, with Pastor Carson Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends starting at 9:00 a.m. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan, KS. 

Memorials may be made in Lloyd’s name to Shiloh Ranch Ministries or Gentiva Hospice and left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

Patrick Andrew “Pat” Seeman, 83, passed away April 13, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Pat was born November 23, 1939, the oldest of 6 children, to Junior 
and Maudie (Hill) Seeman in Larned, KS. He attended a country school 
north of Larned close to his family farm. Later, he lived with his 
grandparents while attending Larned High School, graduating in 1957.

Pat received track and football scholarships to Garden City Community
 College. Shortly before graduating, a new coach at Garden City 
Community College recruited him to play at Oklahoma State University. 
However, the National Guard called him to serve. He spent several months
 at Ft. Smith in Arkansas. He later attended 1 year at Fort Hays State 
University. He met and married Laurie Niedens, they were married for 
over 56 years, later divorcing.

Pat began his long banking career with BIC in Great Bend, KS. He was 
transferred around the state as he worked his way up. In 1976, he was 
hired by the First State Bank of Larned and was able to return to his 
home town as a loan officer, primarily focusing on ag lending.

He enjoyed over 20 years of refereeing football and basketball. Pat 
was an avid hunter and trapper, actually being appointed by the State of
 Kansas to trap nuisance animals. He spent time volunteering with 
Pheasants Forever.

After his retirement, Pat spent years attending Carr Auctions buying 
and collecting antiques, particularly enjoying art glass and pottery.

He is survived by: two children, Shellie Thill, husband David, of 
Bella Vista, AR, Michael Seeman and wife Leigh Anne of Larned, KS; four 
grandchildren and three step grandchildren: Emilie Thill, fiancé Brad 
Carlson, Kansas City, MO, Ashlie Nevola, husband Dylan, Kansas City, MO,
 Thomas Thill, wife Haley, Derby, KS, Katie Carlton, husband Brian, 
Larned, KS, Tyler Stelter, Orlando, FL, Megan Stelter, Salina, KS, and 
Jack Stelter, Manhattan, KS; two great grandchildren, Emmett and Jocee 
Carlton, Larned, KS; two brothers, Steven (Michelle) Seeman, Larned, KS,
 Mark (Becky) Seeman, Salina, KS; two sisters Jody (Don) Crosby, Diamond
 Head, MS, Susan (Vance) Smith, Larned, KS.

HOPE - Walter “Wally” Lee Gruber, 76, of Hope, KS passed away at home on April 11, 2023. He was born on January 1, 1947, to Martin and Katie (Katherine Krause) Gruber, in Hope, KS. 

Wally made his life in Hope, where he attended school and graduated from Hope High in 1965.&nbsp; 

After high school he spent several years in the Army Reserves, used his skills as a carpenter to build numerous homes in the area and assist with 4-H projects, and was a long-time dedicated farmer, growing crops and raising cattle.&nbsp; Wally was also a member of the Kansas Young Farmers Association and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, occasionally taking out-of-state fishing adventures.&nbsp; In his later years he was able to lend his many skills in helping to complete renovations on the building that now houses the Hope Historical Museum. 

He is survived by his brother Rano Gruber of Hope, sister-in-law Vicki Gruber of Hope; nieces and nephew Kelli (Ryan) Almes of Manhattan and Kai Gruber of Manhattan; greatnieces and nephews Kendon and Della Almes and Ethan, Aiden, and Abigail Gruber.&nbsp; 

He is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Katie, brother John Gruber, and nephew Chris Gruber.&nbsp; 

Wally’s family and friends will gather on Monday April 17, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Lyons Creek, for a graveside service. A celebration of life will be held at the First National Bank Annex and Community Center following the graveside service on Monday.

Juan would say he would find the feeling of peace when he would work out at the gym. He loved to go and always tried to find someone to go with him. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces, spoiling them and bonding with them. Every time he went to his sister's house first thing he would do was raid her fridge to get a homecooked meal. Every time his brother Teddy came in to town they always, always, had to go play pool. Just like every New Year's for the past four years it became a family tradition to ring in the new years playing cards with the whole family. Juan had the charisma to make friends wherever he went, no matter the situation he always said hi with a sincere smile. He wanted to go to Mexico this year to visit his parents after 11 years of not seeing them. Juan was working as a formation operator at Stryten Manufacturing. John D. Snedden, also known as “JD,” son of John D. Snedden Sr. and Evelyn V. (Hobbie) Snedden, was born on February 28, 1939 in Osborne, KS. He went to be with our Lord on April 11, 2023.

He grew up in Beloit, KS and graduated from Beloit High School in 1956. 

After graduation he joined the Navy. He served his country from November 14, 1957, until October 30, 1961. His duties were served on the USS Currituck. His occupation was hydraulics assembler.

On March 26, 1960, he married Janet Heidrick and later divorced. To this union four children were born, daughters Chris (JB) File, Gina (Robert) Chitty, Kimberly Kay, (deceased) and a son, Shannon (Kelly).

During his lifetime he drove a truck for 7-Up in Beloit, and a local co-op in Beloit. He worked for Archer Daniel Midland, ADM, as a welder, in Salina, and retired for about six months and went work for Ellsworth Correctional Facility, as a guard. He also did a short stint as a guard at the Minneapolis jail.

JD’s favorite pastime hobbies were hunting with his cousins in Smith Center, and fishing with his son and a couple friends out in Assaria. Making furniture was also something he liked doing. He also liked going to our local racetrack once in a while. He attended several cooking seminars and was a great cook.

He married Carol Snedden on June 23,1983.&nbsp; Rob McKown was also brought into his family at that time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kimberly; brothers Frank (George) and Larry, and father-in-law Max Slothower.

He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters Chris (JB) File, Gina (Robert) Chitty; son Shannon (Kelly) Snedden and stepson Rob McKown; a sister, Nancy Heiman and seven grandkids, and eight great-grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews and friends and family.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.

Larry Edward Larson, son of George C. Larson and Ruby A. Aspegren Larson was born August 9, 1943, in Concordia, Kansas. He passed away April 10, 2023, as the result of a tractor accident in rural Scandia, KS, at the age of 79 years, 8 months.

Larry attended school in Scandia and graduated from Scandia Rural High School in 1961. He attended college at Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from KSU in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On May 28, 1973, Larry was united in marriage to Coleen M. Kemper at St. John’s Catholic Church in Logan, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural Scandia. To this union, Karen, Kelly, Edward, and Kristen were born.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Throughout his life Larry was a farmer, rancher, and truck driver. 

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend to many. Also, he was an active member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and the Scandia Lions Club. In countless ways, Larry spent his life serving his faith, family, farm, and friends and will be dearly missed by many.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruby Larson, his brothers Gene Larson, Don Larson, Harold Larson, and Richard Larson, and sister Helen Sankey. 

He is survived by his wife Coleen Larson, children Karen (Nikolay Volkov) Larson of Moscow, Russia, Kelly (Jim) Gourley of Beverly, Kansas, Edward Larson of Overland Park, Kansas, and Kristen (Scott) Peterson of Helena, Montana, as well as five grandchildren, Alexey, Roman, Dean, Lucy, and Jack.&nbsp; He is also survived by brother Robert (Anita) Larson of Scandia, and twin sister Lorraine (Lowell) Chellberg of Topeka, Kansas, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The casket has been closed. Visitation will be held at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home in Belleville, Kansas, on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary service at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Belleville, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Henry Baxa presiding, Deacon Steve Heiman assisting, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Scandia, Kansas.

William Frederick Schick, son of Max and Norma (Wagner) Schick was 
born at the Phillips County Hospital August 10, 1955.&nbsp; He passed away on
 April 10, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 67.

He was baptized August 28, 1955, and confirmed May 17, 1970, in the 
Lutheran faith at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Stuttgart where he 
currently was a member.

He graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1973, 
Barton County Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in 
1975, Fort Hays State University with a Bachelors of Music in 1978 and 
Fort Hays State University with a Masters of Music in 1979.

After graduating from Fort Hays State University, he taught 
instrumental music at Plainville for 21 years. His last four years at 
Plainville he also taught high school and seventh grade vocal music. 
During these 21 years at Plainville he sponsored the Crimson Cardinal 
Dance Team. His 1993 and 1999 bands were selected to perform in the 
Citrus Bowl Parade at Orlando, Florida.&nbsp; William then had the 
opportunity to move back home to Phillipsburg where he served as band 
director for 19 years.&nbsp; He looked forward to taking the bands to the 
State Fair at Hutchinson every year where they were awarded first 
division ratings for at least 22 consecutive years.&nbsp; 

William enjoyed 
teaching from fifth to twelfth grade and watching the student’s progress
 as musicians and young adults.&nbsp;&nbsp; His favorite times were teaching in 
the classroom, the concerts and the fifth graders excitement in being 
able to play Mary Had A Little Lamb for the first time.&nbsp; William taught 
music to hundreds of students and enjoyed seeing them succeed at contest
 or being selected for various honor groups.&nbsp; He was just as happy for a
 student receiving a two or three rating as he was for the first 
division ratings.&nbsp; William served as guest conductor or woodwind 
instructor for many honor bands and taught for many years at the Hal 
Palmer High Plains Band Camp.&nbsp; He was director of the Chime Choir at 
Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Stuttgart and First Lutheran Church, 
Plainville and sang with the choirs. He served as a guide and conductor 
for the C &amp; R Railroad Museum, Phillipsburg. &nbsp;He held memberships in
 the following organizations: Phi Beta Mu, national band directors 
fraternity: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, professional music fraternity; Kansas
 Music Educators Association, where he served as President for the 
Northwest District chaired numerous district events and served two years
 on the state board; Music Educators National Conference; Kansas 
Bandmasters Association; National Educators Association; Barton County 
Community College Alumni Association and a lifetime member of the Fort 
Hays State University Alumni Association. 

His most recent honor was 
being inducted into the KMEA Hall of Fame in 2021. In 2023, a ceremony 
was held at Phillipsburg High School to permanently hang his picture and
 plaque to commemorate this accomplishment. William retired from 
teaching in 2019 but continued to substitute teach in the Phillipsburg 
and Logan school districts until his time of death.

William enjoyed being active in his church, spending time at the shop and attending his nieces and nephews activities.

William is survived by his parents, two brothers Merlyn and Steven 
Schick of Phillipsburg, two sisters Anita Powell and her husband Joel of
 Colby, Nancy Jenner and her husband Mike of Prairie View, three nephews
 Travis Powell and his wife Athena of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Trenton 
Powell and his wife Ashley of LeMars, Iowa, Trevor Jenner and his wife 
Nichole of Phillipsburg; four nieces Tara Powell of Salina, Trista Cline
 and her husband Brandon of Derby, Tori Jenner of Overland Park and Toni
 Jenner of Wichita; three great nieces Madison and Molly Powell of 
LeMars, Iowa, Callista Powell of Wheat Ridge, Colorado and two great 
nephews Nolan and Ryan Cline of Derby.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the 
Huck Boyd Community Center, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lee Bennight 
officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve 
Memorial Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Emmanuel 
Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart.

Mr. Schick will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. 
to 9 p.m. Friday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with
 the family receiving friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for 
visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.

HILLSBORO - Helen Fenstermacher, 99, passed away April 10, 2023 at Salem Home in Hillsboro. &nbsp;

Helen Fenstermacher went home to Jesus on April 10, 2023, at 99 years young.

Helen, born Lena Esther Ediger to Henry David Ediger and Agatha (Wiens) Ediger, began life on April 2, 1924 in Henderson, Nebraska. 

Helen chose to change her name from Lena when she was 18 years old as she “just didn’t care for” the name Lena. 

Helen’s grandparents immigrated from Russia and retained many of their cultural customs, including speaking Low German at home and High German at church. She learned to speak English at a one-room schoolhouse in Nebraska. 

Helen graduated from high school in Reedley, California in 1943. She went on to study biology at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas where she graduated in 1947 with a bachelor’s degree. Helen then went to nurse’s training at Fresno General Hospital to pursue her calling to missionary work; she ultimately found her mission in caring for her family’s medical needs.

Helen met Robert James Fenstermacher in 1948 after a mutual friend suggested that Robert write to Helen. They married in 1951 and went on to have seven children. Helen worked as a registered nurse for many years while raising her family. After her children were grown, she worked as a custom wedding dress designer. She enjoyed quilting and singing, through which she found fellowship and meaning. Helen also found great joy in spending time with her family and in being part of the Discipleship Group “D Group” over the last 20+ years.

Helen joins her husband, Robert Fenstermacher; siblings Daniel Ediger, Lydia (Ediger) Heinrichs, and Johnny Ediger; and children Richard, Donna Jean, Robert, and Ruth (Fenstermacher) and husband Barry Dean Heinzerling in Heaven. 

Here on Earth, she is missed by her sister Edna (Ediger) Warkentine; children Barbara (Fenstermacher) and husband Jim Villanueva, Mary (Fenstermacher) and husband Ben Steketee, and Samuel Fenstermacher and wife Carol; along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Rachel Villanueva; Samuel Villanueva, wife Heather, and their children DJ and Diana; Daniel Villanueva and children Noah and Ashton; Renee (Steketee), husband Johnny Gilkey, and their children Emily, Hailey, and Chloe; Jaimie (Steketee), husband Nick Hays, and their children Landen and Micah; Becky (Steketee) and husband Chris Ginac, and George Benjamin Steketee and wife Rochelle.

Anton “Tony” Klassen, 81, of Moundridge, Kansas, entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be with the Lord on April 11, 2023. Born in Goessel, KS, on March 3rd, 1942, to Christoph Klassen and Marie (Boese) Klassen, Anton was the third child of four brothers, and was able to enjoy growing up with his siblings, Harold, Eldon, and Ruben on a small farm south of Goessel, Kansas. 

The family had a strong Mennonite belief and as part of his personal faith, Anton was baptized on May 20th, 1956, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. He would continue to be a devout Christian at Eden Mennonite Church for the remainder of his life. As a child, Anton attended Emmenthal School in Goessel where he received his primary education. In 1959, Anton graduated from Goessel High School, where he would go on to attend for one year at Bethel College. It was there at Bethel where Anton would meet the love of his life, Patsy (Krehbiel) Klassen.

 At the age of 19, Anton and Patsy would join in marriage on November 23rd, 1963. 

Soon after Anton and Patsy were married, they would move to Denver, Colorado where Anton would serve two years in 1W service at Denver General Hospital. 

After Anton’s time was finished in Denver, they moved back to Moundridge, Kansas where they would enjoy a happy 57 years of marriage before Patsy’s passing on October 13th, 2021. 

Anton and Patsy suffered heartbreak when they lost two sons, Neil, and Steven. Despite their heartache, Anton and Patsy were blessed when they were able to adopt their son, Scott Klassen, on September 24th, 1971. Having been raised with the strong value of hard work, Anton had two employers where he was a model employee. Upon on their arrival back in Kansas, Anton would work for Excel Corporation for a short time before finally finding his perfect fit at the Moundridge Telephone Company in 1966, a position he would maintain for 50 years before his retirement in 2016. Anton earned the nickname, “The Phone Man” as he was affectionately known throughout Moundridge and the surrounding communities. During his time at the phone company, Anton would continue his education at Dynatel Corp in San Francisco, California and numerous telephone trainings at College Station, Texas.

Aside from his career, Anton also dedicated countless hours to his family’s farm, often spending many evenings and weekends working with his son Scott, and later, his grandsons Cade and Calen Klassen. Outside of work, Anton enjoyed traveling. He and Patsy had the opportunity to visit many amazing places such as Cancun, Cozumel, Washington D.C., the Florida Space Center and Lancaster, PA, to name a few. Anton thoroughly enjoyed having Tuesday morning coffee with his close friends and relatives, attending farm auctions, eating at Charlie’s in Newton, and watching the local news, The Family Feud, or especially Gunsmoke. Most of the time, however, you could find Anton working on his family farm. Anton also enjoyed meeting and chatting with countless people he would encounter in his community, as well as the many friends he had made. Anton is survived by his son, Scott and Suzanne, Park City, KS; grandson, Cade and Melissa and great-grandson, Easton, Olathe, KS; grandson, Calen, Wichita, KS; brother, Eldon and Darlene, Wichita, KS; brother, Ruben and Analene, Goessel, KS; brother-in-law, Larry and Betty Krehbiel, Moundridge, KS; sister-in-law, Kay and Gib Burgan, Moundridge, KS; sister-in-law, Maxine Schrag, Moundridge, KS; and countless nieces and nephews. Anton was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy (Krehbiel) Klassen; parents, Christoph and Marie (Boese) Klassen; and his brother, Harold Klassen. A viewing and memorial service will be held Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the Moundridge Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge at 10 a.m., Monday April 17 with the burial following at the church cemetery. A fellowship meal will be immediately following the funeral in the church fellowship hall.

Born in Goessel, KS, on March 3rd, 1942, to Christoph Klassen and Marie (Boese) Klassen, Anton was the third child of four brothers, and was able to enjoy growing up with his siblings, Harold, Eldon, and Ruben on a small farm south of Goessel, Kansas. The family had a strong Mennonite belief and as part of his personal faith, Anton was baptized on May 20th, 1956, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. He would continue to be a devout Christian at Eden Mennonite Church for the remainder of his life. As a child, Anton attended Emmenthal School in Goessel where he received his primary education. In 1959, Anton graduated from Goessel High School, where he would go on to attend for one year at Bethel College. Tanya L. Mendell, age 64, of Concordia, Kansas passed away at North Central Kansas Medical Center on April 11, 2023. She was born in Granite City, Illinois, on April 17, 1958, to Paul and Virginia (Watson) Strait.

Tanya grew up and attended schools in California before moving to Concordia with her family in 1986.

Tanya was preceded in death by her parents. 

She is survived by her daughter Serina Todd of Concordia, Kansas; her partner David Fees of Concordia, Kansas; two sisters, Donna Campbell of Eugene, Oregon, and Paula Burns of Prineville, Oregon; and her three grandsons, Trenton Todd, Colton Todd, and Bradley Ritchey, all of Concordia.

Cremation was selected and family burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
