Kansas farmers will soon have the opportunity to explore the use of drones in agriculture at a public meeting on Sept. 10 in Garnett. Hosted by the Frontier Extension District and Coffey County Extension Office, the meeting titled *Using Drone Technology in Agriculture* will offer insights into how drones can enhance agricultural production.

The event is co-sponsored by the Anderson County and Coffey County conservation districts. There is no cost to attend, but interested individuals must register by calling Ryan Schaub at 785-448-6826 or emailing him at reschaub@ksu.edu.

“In our area, we have seen a growing interest in how to start businesses that use drones for spraying herbicides and insecticides on fields,” said Schaub, a crop production and farm management agent with K-State Research and Extension’s Frontier District. “These inquiries often lead to further questions about regulations and which drones are best suited for purchase.”

According to Fortune Business Insights, the global agriculture drone market was valued at $4.98 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow to $6.11 billion by the end of 2024. By 2032, the market is forecasted to reach $23.78 billion.

“The farmers I talk to are asking about how to use drones for various tasks like spreading cover crops or spraying insecticides on small acreage row crop ground,” Schaub said. “There are also numerous other applications, such as checking cattle during calving season or spraying herbicide on hilly pastures.”

In addition to live drone demonstrations, the Sept. 10 meeting will feature several expert speakers. Spencer Schrader, the flight operations manager for K-State Salina’s Uncrewed Aircraft Systems program, will discuss industry regulations, types of drones, and making aerial applications with drones. Jaymelynn Farney, a beef systems specialist with K-State Research and Extension, will present her research on using drones to measure pasture biomass. Trevor Witt, owner of Kairos Geospatial, will cover practical applications of drone remote sensing for natural resource conservation. Kelly Nainsky-Wenzel from the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s pesticide and fertilizer division will discuss KDA’s role when drones are used to apply herbicides. Haley Larson, a professor at K-State Olathe, will speak on using drones in feedyards and emerging technologies in agriculture.

“Each speaker brings unique, hands-on experience in using drones for various applications,” Schaub noted. “For attendees, learning about the diverse ways the same equipment can be utilized helps justify their investment.”

Saline County Jail Bookings, Sept. 1

GEARY COUNTY —&nbsp; Two people were injured in an accident just before 10p.m. Saturday in Geary County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by Samuel A&nbsp;Mertens, 40, Kearney, Nebraska, was westbound on Interstate 70 and entered the construction zone between mileposts 295-U.S. 77 exit and 300-Kansas 57 exit.

&nbsp;Traffic began to slow in the construction zone. The Chevy rear-ended a 2016 Nissan Altima driven by Michael W Catt, 27, Wichita.&nbsp; After impact the Chevy&nbsp; drove around the Nissan and continued driving until he stopped near the Ohio Street exit in Saline County.

Mertens was not injured. Catt complained of pain and drove himself to the hospital. EMS transported a passenger in Nissan Wendy R. Catt, 54, Wichita, to&nbsp;Salina Regional Health Center. All three were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

King Midas plays Lindsborg Sept. 21

I recently read the manuscript of a soon-to-be-published scholarly book looking at one of Kansas’s major cities. It was filled with sharp observations and smart ideas; when it’s published, I’ll buy copies of it for all my local representatives, in hopes that they’ll read it and learn something. But there’s one point in the manuscript that I can’t get out of my head.

When the author–who, like me, is not a Kansas native–arrived in the Sunflower state, they were struck by how the city they were moving to seemed to sprout out of the ground without warning. Flying into a Kansas airport, the book suggests, you look around, seeing nothing but farmland, and then suddenly a city is there, seemingly at random. The point being that Kansas’s urban areas--with Kansas City’s agglomeration of Overland Park and Olathe, Leavenworth and Lenexa, being the sole exception–are stand-alone entities, the product of geographic happenstance or boundary-line-drawing rooted decades, or even centuries, in the past.

Cities everywhere are both products and providers of connectivity; making connections and pursuing opportunities is why people congregate together, why businesses and investment capital flow to urban areas. So when you see a solitary city or town standing in an otherwise entirely rural space, there is the temptation to wonder how “real” a place it actually is.

Given that global trade and internet communication means that no city or town, no matter how small, is truly disconnected any longer, this kind of wondering is more a matter of perception than reality. Unless, of course, the perception becomes a self-imposed trap, and thus accidentally, or perhaps preemptively, sets the terms for the real-world decisions that follow.

That kind of self-referential trapping is not unusual in Kansas, I fear. There are positive aspects to it, of course; it can encourage people to focus on their local resources, adding to the culture of our state by supporting and celebrating the creativity that can be found in local places. But too often this dynamic takes a negative tone, whether it be a defiant pride in disconnection, or a hopelessness that dismisses new connections and possibilities before they’ve even been tried.

Look at Kansas politics through this frame, and you can see examples everywhere. State policies that could be easily adapted to Kansas’s population–like Medicaid expansion, legal medical marijuana, and more–face opposition from political interests that mostly offer a simple “it won’t work here” rather than any serious policy argument. Counties with farmers looking to bring in additional income and companies happy to pay them to install solar arrays face onerous regulations instead, because otherwise “people will complain.” Cities trying to manage their slow growth by establishing more reliable revenue streams, reconsidering the costs of an overbuilt infrastructure, free parking, and mill levies that haven’t been touched in decades, shy away from moving forward, fearing that Kansans are “too cheap” to ever pay for improving public goods.

Obviously such perceptions don’t explain everything about these disputes; political disagreements, backed by powerful partisan interests, are real, and simple boosterism won’t change that. But pushing back against the idea that certain things just “can’t happen in Kansas” is nonetheless important, I think, because that’s a perception rooted in an assumption based on Kansas’s spatiality, its supposed disconnectedness, and not on our common resources and will.

The fact that there are, and always have been, many throughout Kansas’s cities and towns willing to do that kind of pushing back is evidence enough that the political powers that be aren’t the whole story. That’s my hopeful perception, at least.

Smoky Hill Museum needs parade entries, 2024 Street Fair

Salina Post proudly presents Flashback Friday in partnership with the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.smokyhillmuseum.org/">Smoky Hill Museum</a>. Enjoy a weekly tidbit of local history from the staff at Salina Post and the Smoky Hill Museum as we present "Salina-Flashback Fridays."&nbsp;

Although Methodists met earlier, Presbyterians were the first actually to organize a church in Saline County.

Presbyterianism was founded in Scotland and since most of Salina’s founders were of Scottish descent it followed these Presbyterian pioneers who got the earliest start in Salina. Even before the church was organized, Christina Phillips held Sunday School classes in her home.

William A. Phillips, one of Salina's founders, was a Scottish Presbyterian as were most of the first settlers of the town, so it was quite natural that the Rev. A. T. Rankin and Dr. William Bishop of the Old School Branch of the Presbyterian Church should come to Salina to organize a church in the community.

The two missionary ministers arrived in Salina Wednesday morning, May 9, 1860. They had started from Lawrence about ten days earlier, traveling the one hundred and fifty miles in a buggy over the “Phillips Road”—the route later used for Highway 40.

On Saturday, May 12, 1860, Mrs. Christine “Grandma” Phillips, Mrs. Christina Campbell, Mr. D. L Phillips, Mr. W. W. Morrison, and Mr. H. H. Morrison met with Rev. Rankin and Dr. Bishop in the Garlitz Carpenter Shop, which stood on the northeast corner of Santa Fe and Iron. 

The five men and two ladies completed the organizational plans for a Presbyterian Church, the first church in Salina. Mr. D. L. Phillips and Mr. W. W. Morrison were elected Ruling Elders.

On Sunday morning, May 13, 1860, the first church service was held in the court room, located on the second floor of the Tressin Hardware Store on the southeast corner of Santa Fe and Ash. Rev. Rankin preached the sermon and in the afternoon, he administered communion and baptized Christie Campbell, the first child born in Salina.

Soon after the organization of the church, Rev. A. A. Morrison arrived from Illinois and preached to the small congregation until October 7, 1860, when Dr. William Bishop became Stated Supply, a position he held for five years. 

During 1860 the church grew to fifteen members and here it remained with little change until the end of the Civil War.

In 1868, Rev. J. L. Jones became the minister of the church and the plan of rotary Eldership was adopted. On September 6, 1870 A. C. Sloan, C. A. Campbell, Jacob Bishop, Maxwell A. Phillips and Robert Muir signed the Charter of Incorporation for the First Presbyterian Church of Salina, Kansas.

In 1870 the congregation of a few more than 50 members started the construction of a church on 8th street. It was finished and dedicated April 2, 1871. This frame building, with a seating capacity of 200, cost about $4,000. In 1876 the ladies of the congregation bought a bell, which was transferred to the two later buildings.

January 12, 1874, Rev. W. A. Simkins became pastor of the church and during his 13 years of service, the church grew from a small congregation to one of the largest in the Synod of Kansas. In 1888 Dr. William Foulkes began a memorable ministry of 12 years, serving with energy, ability and consecration. 

Four years after Dr. Foulkes became pastor it was decided larger quarters were needed. In 1892 the frame building was moved and later sold to the United Brethren congregation, who had it moved to South 5th Street. The new building was built on the same land where the first building had been. 

In April 7, 1892 “Grandma” Phillips laid the cornerstone and by January 1893 it was formally opened for services.

The completed large church, costing $20,000, was dedicated May 13, 1900. During Dr. Foulkes’ ministry 452 members were added to the roll and three sons of the church went out into world service for Christ— William Blair, his brother, Herbert Blair, and William Hiram Foulkes, Jr. Dr. and Mrs. William Blair’s missionary work in bringing Christianity to Korea during the early 1900s was financially supported by First Presbyterian Church, Salina.

When the current building was built, Blair Hall was named in his honor. From 1900 to 1904 Dr. Stephen E. Estey was pastor. The church had a remarkable growth in all departments of its work, and a pipe organ was installed. In 1905 Dr. Frank McKean became pastor. The church prospered under his leadership. Dr. Alfred E. Van Orden became pastor in 1910 and continued until 1919. This was a time of remarkable growth in the membership of the church. 

Dr. Joseph Clokey became pastor in 1920, remaining for seven years. Dr. Clokey led the congregation in building the third home of the First Presbyterian Church on Mulberry from Eight to Ninth Streets and local architect Charles Shaver designed it at a cost of approximately $225,000.

Dr. Raymond V. Kearns was installed as pastor May 12, 1927 on the 67th anniversary of the founding of the church. During his pastorate of 19 years, the membership became 1500 communicants and there was a steady growth in all departments, particularly in the ministry to the youth though the church schools and Westminister Fellowship programs.

The most significant accomplishment of Dr. Kearns’ ministry was clearing the church of all indebtedness. Thanks in part to the continuing efforts of the women’s organizations the debt of $90,000 was raised with $7,200 in cash above the amount in spite of the depression and the drought years of the 1930s. In 1946 Dr. Kearns resigned as pastor to become Associate Secretary for the Department of Evangelism of the Presbyterian Church of the U. S. A.

Dr. James S. Elliott became pastor on December 30, 1946. At this time there were four separate women’sorganizations in the church: The Women’s Missionary Society, the Willing Workers, The Daughters of the Church and the Presbyterian Women’s Guild. 

In order for the women to have a sense of “oneness” and a greater interest in what the church was doing at home and abroad, Dr. Elliott suggested forming an inclusive Women’s Society, a plan that was being adopted by Presbyterian and other churches throughout the country. 

On October 7, 1948, the Presbyterian Women’s Association was born. During Dr. Elliott’s 18 years of ministry, the Shaver Architectural Firm was commissioned to redesign the sanctuary. John Shaver, son of the building’s designer, removed the organ pipes from the chancel arch to expose the Resurrection window telling the story in Mark 16.

 A new pipe organ was also installed and the choir loft was moved to either side of the chancel.

In 1954, 200 members of the congregation were encouraged to start Sunrise Presbyterian Church. In the latter part of the 1950s, $400,000 was pledged for the construction of a Christian Education Building costing $273,000. It was dedicated September 27, 1959 in time for the church’s centennial celebration in 1960.

During Jim Elliott’s years as pastor, the church showed large increases in new members (231 in one year) and attendance (550 enrolled in Sunday School).&nbsp; In 1964, Dr. Elliott resigned as pastor.&nbsp;

First Presbyterian Church has been a key positive force in Salina, starting with its support for servicemen during World War II through a Soldier Center. Over the years, the church has helped initiate several community programs, including Presbyterian Manor, Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity. 

It has also housed the Salina Day Care organization for over 40 years and supported The Family Hope Center, which provided support groups, counseling, and health care for more than 25 years.

During Dr. Foulkes’ ministry 452 members were added to the roll and three sons of the church went out into world service for Christ— William Blair, his brother, Herbert Blair, and William Hiram Foulkes, Jr. Dr. and Mrs. William Blair’s missionary work in bringing Christianity to Korea during the early 1900s was financially supported by First Presbyterian Church, Salina.<figure>

 </figure>When the current building was built, Blair Hall was named in his honor. From 1900 to 1904 Dr. Stephen E. Estey was pastor. The church had a remarkable growth in all departments of its work, and a pipe organ was installed. In 1905 Dr. Frank McKean became pastor. The church prospered under his leadership. Dr. Alfred E. Van Orden became pastor in 1910 and continued until 1919. This was a time of remarkable growth in the membership of the church. Dr. Joseph Clokey became pastor in 1920, remaining for seven years. Dr. Clokey led the congregation in building the third home of the First Presbyterian Church on Mulberry from Eight to Ninth Streets and local architect Charles Shaver designed it at a cost of approximately $225,000.Dr. Raymond V. Kearns was installed as pastor May 12, 1927 on the 67th anniversary of the founding of the church. During his pastorate of 19 years, the membership became 1500 communicants and there was a steady growth in all departments, particularly in the ministry to the youth though the church schools and Westminister Fellowship programs.The most significant accomplishment of Dr. Kearns’ ministry was clearing the church of all indebtedness. Thanks in part to the continuing efforts of the women’s organizations the debt of $90,000 was raised with $7,200 in cash above the amount in spite of the depression and the drought years of the 1930s. In 1946 Dr. Kearns resigned as pastor to become Associate Secretary for the Department of Evangelism of the Presbyterian Church of the U. S. A.Dr. James S. Elliott became pastor on December 30, 1946. At this time there were four separate women’sorganizations in the church: The Women’s Missionary Society, the Willing Workers, The Daughters of the Church and the Presbyterian Women’s Guild. In order for the women to have a sense of “oneness” and a greater interest in what the church was doing at home and abroad, Dr. Elliott suggested forming an inclusive Women’s Society, a plan that was being adopted by Presbyterian and other churches throughout the country. On October 7, 1948, the Presbyterian Women’s Association was born. During Dr. Elliott’s 18 years of ministry, the Shaver Architectural Firm was commissioned to redesign the sanctuary. John Shaver, son of the building’s designer, removed the organ pipes from the chancel arch to expose the Resurrection window telling the story in Mark 16.<figure>

 </figure> A new pipe organ was also installed and the choir loft was moved to either side of the chancel.In 1954, 200 members of the congregation were encouraged to start Sunrise Presbyterian Church. In the latter part of the 1950s, $400,000 was pledged for the construction of a Christian Education Building costing $273,000. It was dedicated September 27, 1959 in time for the church’s centennial celebration in 1960.During Jim Elliott’s years as pastor, the church showed large increases in new members (231 in one year) and attendance (550 enrolled in Sunday School).&nbsp; In 1964, Dr. Elliott resigned as pastor.&nbsp;First Presbyterian Church has been a key positive force in Salina, starting with its support for servicemen during World War II through a Soldier Center. Over the years, the church has helped initiate several community programs, including Presbyterian Manor, Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity. On Thursday evening a motorcyclist was injured in a crash near the intersection of Cloud and Ninth Streets in Salina.

According to Salina Police Department (SPD) Cpt. James Feldman the crash happened at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29.

According to the crash report, a Chevy Cavalier was southbound on Ninth Street and was beginning to turn eastbound onto cloud, where it struck a motorcyclist, a 54-year-old woman of Salina, traveling northbound in the 1800 block of South Ninth.&nbsp;

The motorcyclist sustained significant injuries to her arm and shoulder and was taken to a medical facility in Wichita for treatment.

Feldman said both the vehicle and motorcycle had to be towed off the street.

910 KINA Sports Headlines — August 30

By SALINA POST Two juvenile males are facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a Salina vape shop early Thursday morning and stealing vape cartridges valued at approximately $1,200.

Salina Police Department (SPD) CPT James Feldman said this morning that Officers &nbsp;responded to a burglary at Pak Rat, located at 695 S. Broadway, at around 7:30 a.m. on August 29. Employees arriving at the business discovered a broken window on the south side of the building. Surveillance footage revealed that two juveniles had broken into the shop around 12:30 a.m. and stole numerous vape cartridges before fleeing the scene.

Later that afternoon, at approximately 3:30 p.m. a worker from St. Francis spotted two reported runaways from the facility at Centennial Park.&nbsp; When approached, the juveniles attempted to flee, dropping multiple vape cartridges as they ran. Salina Police Officers and Saline County Sheriff’s Office Deputies eventually located the suspects hiding behind a shed in the 800 block of Comanche.

The vape cartridges were confirmed to have come from Pak Rat, leading to the arrest of the two juveniles. Both suspects, aged 14 and 15, are now facing charges of burglary, damage to property, trespassing, and possession of electronic cigarettes.

The business is still assessing the total loss from the burglary.

The two suspects then went to Target, 2939 Market Place, Salina, Kansas, and entered the store separately.

The two then met up in the store. One of the suspects picked up a child’s dress and a Gatorade, while the second tried to purchase the items along with a $500 Target Gift Card and a $400 Target Gift Card using the victim’s stolen credit cards.&nbsp; The suspects made three unsuccessful attempts to purchase the items before leaving the store without any items.

Saline County Jail Bookings, Aug. 30

At approximately 4:04 p.m. on August 28, Salina Fire, Rural Fire District One and Two, the Saline County Sheriff's Office, Salina Police Department, Saline County Emergency Management and the Kansas Highway Patrol all responded to a fire at Stryten Energy in Salina.&nbsp;

According to Salina Fire Marshal Joe Kvacik, nearly a dozen fire apparatuses remained on the scene Wednesday afternoon and into the evening attacking hot spots inside the Stryten Energy building, 413 East Berg Road, Salina.

On the second and third floors of the large, multiple story Stryten Energy complex, Salina and Saline County Rural fire fighters encountered moderate fire conditions.&nbsp;

"Eventually we got the fire knocked down on the inside. Then we had some roofing material and stuff on the on the roof that was burning," Kvacik said. "We had multiple levels of this building that had fire on it. So we had several ladder trucks out here."

According to Michelle Weis, Saline County Emergency Management Director, fire crews have informed her that there are no live flames as of 6:11 p.m.

Kvacik said fire crews continue to overhaul the building checking for hot spots.

"We have a lot of hot spots in there," Kvacik said. "They're pulling a lot of insulation and and just chasing down anything that's still smoldering."

According to Kvacik, this was a third alarm fire.

"Our first alarm is basically the crews that are on duty, the fire trucks that would go to this initial alarm when something's called," Kvacik said. "A second alarm is where we'll call back in one of our shifts and they staff, our backup trucks, or they'll send some guys out here to assist. Then the third alarm is when we call the other shift back. Third alarm is everybody."

Kvacik said the cause of the fire at this time is unknown. No first responders or employees were injured as a result of the fire.&nbsp;

"They [fire fighters] are still chasing hot spots," Kvacik said. "We haven't started the investigation yet. We haven't really sat down and talked to Stryten to see what was going on or what was observed. For us, this is a pretty large scene."&nbsp;

Melissa Floyd, a representative of Stryten Energy, said the company was unable to issue a statement at this time. Salina Post asked if residents should avoid the area because of the possibility of potentially harmful chemicals present in the smoke plumes. 

Floyd was unable to comment on the potential negative health effects of the black smoke coming from Stryten Energy.

Stryten is a&nbsp;stored energy solutions firm, according to the company web site. Their products " power everything from forklifts in warehouses and distribution centers to cars, trains and trucks to microgrids and vast telecom networks. In addition to manufacturing high-quality advanced lead, lithium, and vanadium batteries and intelligent chargers."

</div>Video of the fire at Styten Energy on Aug. 29 at 9:00 a.m. Video by NATE KINGUPDATED 08/28/2024 at 7:08 p.m. Story originally published at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 28By SALINA POSTAt approximately 4:04 p.m. on August 28, Salina Fire, Rural Fire District One and Two, the Saline County Sheriff's Office, Salina Police Department, Saline County Emergency Management and the Kansas Highway Patrol all responded to a fire at Stryten Energy in Salina.&nbsp;According to Salina Fire Marshal Joe Kvacik, nearly a dozen fire apparatuses remained on the scene Wednesday afternoon and into the evening attacking hot spots inside the Stryten Energy building, 413 East Berg Road, Salina.On the second and third floors of the large, multiple story Stryten Energy complex, Salina and Saline County Rural fire fighters encountered moderate fire conditions.&nbsp;"Eventually we got the fire knocked down on the inside. Then we had some roofing material and stuff on the on the roof that was burning," Kvacik said. "We had multiple levels of this building that had fire on it. So we had several ladder trucks out here."According to Michelle Weis, Saline County Emergency Management Director, fire crews have informed her that there are no live flames as of 6:11 p.m.Kvacik said fire crews continue to overhaul the building checking for hot spots."We have a lot of hot spots in there," Kvacik said. "They're pulling a lot of insulation and and just chasing down anything that's still smoldering."<figure>

 </figure>According to Kvacik, this was a third alarm fire."Our first alarm is basically the crews that are on duty, the fire trucks that would go to this initial alarm when something's called," Kvacik said. "A second alarm is where we'll call back in one of our shifts and they staff, our backup trucks, or they'll send some guys out here to assist. Then the third alarm is when we call the other shift back. Third alarm is everybody."Kvacik said the cause of the fire at this time is unknown. No first responders or employees were injured as a result of the fire.&nbsp;"They [fire fighters] are still chasing hot spots," Kvacik said. "We haven't started the investigation yet. We haven't really sat down and talked to Stryten to see what was going on or what was observed. For us, this is a pretty large scene."&nbsp;Melissa Floyd, a representative of Stryten Energy, said the company was unable to issue a statement at this time. Salina Post asked if residents should avoid the area because of the possibility of potentially harmful chemicals present in the smoke plumes. Floyd was unable to comment on the potential negative health effects of the black smoke coming from Stryten Energy.<figure>

Their products " power everything from forklifts in warehouses and distribution centers to cars, trains and trucks to microgrids and vast telecom networks. In addition to manufacturing high-quality advanced lead, lithium, and vanadium batteries and intelligent chargers."This is a developing story. While his death is unfortunate, the Department of Commerce believes it is necessary to provide clarity regarding allegations made publicly by former Department of Commerce Employee Jonathan Clayton.

Clayton’s allegations of wrongdoing by the Department of Commerce related to the awarding of BASE grants, along with his allegation that he was forced to serve on a volunteer theatre board, are categorically false.&nbsp;

The Department of Commerce was not aware of Jonathan Clayton’s felony convictions in Pennsylvania when Clayton was hired in 2020. Under existing Kansas law, we are unable to perform national level criminal background checks for the position that Clayton held. Our process for vetting prospective employees included online searches, social media reviews and reference checks, which unfortunately failed to uncover his felony convictions. 

He would not have been hired by Commerce had we been aware of these convictions.&nbsp;

While there is no evidence of any impropriety at the Department of Commerce, as an extra precaution, an independent third-party contractor is doing a full review of all ARPA grants.

 Commerce has also requested and is assisting local, state and federal agencies investigating Clayton’s volunteer work with community-based organizations in Kiowa and Marion counties who may be victims of fraud.

KDOC refutes Clayton's allegations of misconduct

 </figure>By NATE KING Salina Post The Salina Police Department (SPD) is investigating a theft at a Salina storage facility and a subsequent gun threat that took place in rural Saline County.&nbsp;SPD Cpt. James Feldman said officers were dispatched to Salina Mini Storage, located at 440 South Clark Street, after receiving a report of a burglary."We had two victims, a 33-year-old female and a 38-year-old male, who indicated someone they knew had gotten into their storage unit and stolen some subs, a B.C. Rich guitar, some amps, a custom acoustic guitar, a Kay acoustic guitar, an old banjo, a couple rings and two TVs for a total of loss of just over $6,000," Feldman said.&nbsp;Feldman said the victims reported the burglary occurred sometime between Tuesday, Aug. 27,&nbsp; and Wednesday, Aug. 28.&nbsp;The victims informed police that they had identified a known suspect. As they were leaving the storage facility, they spotted the suspect driving nearby and began following him. The pursuit led them to a rural area on East Stimmel Road between Ninth Street and Ohio Street, where the situation escalated."As the victims began following him, he ended up driving out into the country on Stimmel Road where he circled back around at them [the victims]," Feldman said. "As he [the suspect] was doing that, the victims were calling us, but it was very difficult to understand exactly where they were.&nbsp; He [suspect] pulled up next to the victim's car and pointed a gun at them. He then left the area."The victims continued to follow the suspect briefly, but eventually lost track of him near Interstate 70. During this time, Salina Police dispatchers advised the victims to stop following the suspect and return to the police department.Feldman said the victims were interviewed by officers at the police station, and the investigation remains ongoing. According to the victims, the suspect is a male. SPD is actively searching for the male suspect involved in the incident.
