Saline County deputies arrested two suspects after scamming a couple to lose over $120,000.

According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office, on July 29, 2025 an elderly couple was called by a scammer claiming to be an 'agent from the US Treasurer's Office.' The scammer advised the couple that their 'personal information was used to get $3.7 million in cash from various banks.'

Furthermore, the 'agent' told the couple they were 'laundering money' and that they needed to give the 'US Government $80,000 to cover the court cases, which would be refunded after court dismissal.' Afterwards, one from the couple went to their bank and withdrew $80,000 and sent the amount in two separate shipments to two addresses in&nbsp;Downey, CA.

Moreover, on August 31st, 2025 the same 'agent' called the couple again and advised them to send an additional $40,000 in cash, but this time to a certain individual in person. The scammer told the couple this person would come by their house and pick up the cash. According to the Sheriff's Office, the couple met a male suspect at a street by their house to give him a total of $46,461 in cash.

After these events, the couple's bank was suspicious and called a family member of the couple about the concern. The family member then contacted the Sheriff's Office.

The very next day, the scammer called the couple once more and requested an additional payment of $40,000 in cash. The scammer said the same suspect would meet them to pick up the cash.

The Sheriff's Office was already involved in the investigation when the call was made, and learned the suspect would be at the 2300 block of S. 9th to pick up the cash. When the couple went to meet the suspect, authorities arrived to the scene with them and found two male suspects.

Arrested was 27-year old, Naga Teegala (Aurora, Illinois) and 27-year old, Pruthwik Gallipally (Wheeling, Illinois). Both were booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges:

Criminal Threat, Mistreatment of a Dependent Adult, Theft by Deception, Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness and False Impersonation.

The Sheriff's Office is reminding the community that a US Government agency will never request for cash by mail, wire transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency, or other non-traceable methods and is a scam. Saline County deputies arrested a man on various requested charges of burglary, he allegedly committed at two different businesses.

According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 10, deputies were dispatched to McElderry Automotive (1912 W. Old 40 Highway) for a security alarm that was sounding off at the business.

When deputies arrived to the scene, it was determined there was evidence of damage on some vehicles at the business. Deputies did not find a suspect and left the scene.

However, at around 7:50 am that same day, an employee opening the business found a man 'possibly asleep inside one of the vehicles' owned by McElderry. Authorities then went back to the business and found a man walking around the area.&nbsp;

Authorities were able to arrest the man identified as 44-year old, Brent Corwin. After he was taken into custody, deputies learned Corwin had allegedly broke into 4 vehicles (damaging 2) and the building at McElderry.

Furthermore, Corwin had a warrant for his arrest out of Marion County and reportedly attempted to break into the business of Central States Enterprises (1908 W. Old 40 Highway), along with a vehicle on their property.&nbsp;

During the investigation, deputies were led to believe Corwin was responsible for the crimes at&nbsp;Central States Enterprises. He was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges:

Outstanding Warrant (Marion Co.), Burglary, 5 charges of Vehicle Burglary, 2 charges of Criminal Damage to Property and Attempted Burglary.

The Sheriff's Office also stated they recovered a high in value mountain bike that Corwin had. Deputies believe this bike was 'stolen' and is advising anyone who maybe missing this type of bike to contact the Sheriff's Office at&nbsp;(785) 826-6500.

Two business burglaries result in suspect facing various requested charges

Kansas Wesleyan ensembles will celebrate special occasions with live music this fall semester.

All the ensembles and groups will perform in a collage concert at 7:00 pm Friday, September 26 in Sams Chapel as part of Family Weekend, which will be Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27.

The Philharmonic Choir will help the Salina Symphony celebrate outer space with “Beyond the Planets” at 4:00 pm Sunday, October 5 at the Stiefel Theatre in downtown Salina. The choir also will offer its fall concert at 7:00 pm Friday, October 30 in Sams Chapel, and various KWU groups will take part in “Music &amp; Motors,” a special, ticketed event at The Garage Automotive Museum on Thursday, October 16.&nbsp;

The ensembles will take part in Homecoming, Oct. 23-26, with a collage concert at 1 p.m. Oct. 25 in Sams Chapel. Included with that concert will be the KWU Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

November will see a three-day block of concerts, with a Percussion Ensemble concert on Nov. 19, Jazz and Wind ensembles performing on Nov. 20, and guest percussion artist Dr. Caitlin Jones on Nov. 21. All three will start at 7 p.m. in Sams Chapel.

December celebrations will kick off with the String Orchestra and Percussion and Wind ensembles offering a concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 in Sams Chapel. Then the Christmas events kick into high gear with KWU’s traditional “Christmas by Candlelight” at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 in Sams Chapel.

The Wesleyan Chorale will make a joyful noise with the Salina Symphony’s Christmas Festival at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 4 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Stiefel Theatre.

WHAT TAX CHANGES ARE IN THE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL?

The One Big Beautiful Bill, signed into law on July 4, 2025, brings with it a sweeping package of tax changes and budget measures that will have a broad impact on individuals, families and businesses. The legislation makes permanent several provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), while introducing new incentives for workers and business owners. 

As taxpayers try to make sense of what’s changed, many are asking practical questions:&nbsp;Will I pay less in taxes? What do the changes mean for my retirement or business planning? And how long will these provisions last?&nbsp;

One of the most notable elements of the bill is the extension and, in some cases, expansion of tax cuts for individuals and small businesses. The lower individual tax rates enacted under the TCJA, which were originally set to expire in 2025, have now been made permanent. This offers continued relief for middle-income earners and provides more predictability for long-term financial planning. The standard deduction remains high, reducing the number of people who itemize and simplifying tax filings for millions of Americans.&nbsp;

For business owners, this bill offers more than tax simplification. It creates actionable planning opportunities across multiple areas: entity structuring, equipment investment,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.adamsbrownwc.com/services/retirement-plans/">retirement planning</a>&nbsp;and even employee compensation strategies.

FOR BUSINESSES: KEY TAX BREAKS &amp; COMPLIANCE CHANGES

Bigger Tax Incentives for Investment and Expansion

The bill introduces or expands several provisions aimed at encouraging capital investment, manufacturing and innovation:&nbsp;

100% Bonus Depreciation Made Permanent. Now retroactive to qualifying property purchased or placed in service on or after Jan. 19, 2025. Section 179 Expensing Limit Increased. Businesses can now deduct up to $2.5 million in qualifying property (up from $1.16 million limit 2023 level). The deduction begins to phase out at $4 million in asset cost. New Deduction for Qualifying Production Property. Allows 100% expensing of structures used in manufacturing. Applies to construction that begins between Jan. 19, 2025, and Jan. 19, 2029, if placed in service before Jan. 1, 2031. R&amp;D Expensing Restored for Small Businesses.&nbsp; <a href="https://www.adamsbrowncpa.com/blog/expanding-rd-tax-credits-kansas/">Domestic R&amp;D </a>costs&nbsp;can now be expensed immediately for businesses with gross receipts under $31 million. These businesses may also retroactively deduct expenses from tax years beginning after Dec. 31, 2021. Businesses with average gross receipts under $31 million can begin expensing these costs in 2025. Also, large business taxpayers with R&amp;D expenses after 2021 and before 2025 may deduct remaining expenses over a one- or two- year period, beginning in 2025. Advanced Manufacturing Credit. Increases from 25% to 35%, incentivizing U.S.-based production facilities.&nbsp; Paid Family and Medical Leave Credit. Made permanent, providing continued support for employers offering leave benefits. Qualified Small Business Stock (Sec. 1202) Exclusion Expanded.&nbsp; For stock acquired after enactment, gain exclusions increase: &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;50% if held for three years &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;75% if held for four years &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;100% if held for five years or more Opportunity Zones and New Markets Tax Credit. Both made permanent to support community investment.&nbsp; Farmland Sale Deferral (Sec. 1062). Tax from farmland sales to a qualified farmer can now be paid in four annual installments. Interest Exclusion for Ag Loans. Allows a 25% exclusion of interest received on loans secured by agricultural land. The borrower’s deduction is reduced proportionally. Percentage of Completion Exception. Certain residential construction contracts are now exempt from this revenue recognition method, helping small builders manage taxable income timing. EBITDA-Based Limitation on Business Interest Deduction Reinstated (IRC Sec. 163(j)). The bill permanently reinstates the EBITDA-based (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) formula for calculating the business interest expense limitation. This replaces the more restrictive EBIT-based standard that had been phased in. This change provides broader deductibility for leveraged businesses. Modifications to the Excess Business Loss Limitation. The legislation also includes technical and structural changes to the excess business loss calculation, offering additional clarity and predictability in tax planning for pass-through owners and investors. QBI Deduction Expanded. The 20% deduction is now permanent and adds a $400 minimum deduction for taxpayers with at least $1,000 in qualified business income from active participation.

WORKFORCE &amp; CHILDCARE INCENTIVES

Employer Childcare Credit Increased Rises from 25% to 40%, up to $600,000 annually—encouraging more employers to offer on-site or subsidized childcare solutions.&nbsp;

REPORTING &amp; COMPLIANCE CHANGES&nbsp;

1099-K Threshold Restored Returns to the previous $20,000 and 200 transaction threshold, reducing the burden on casual sellers and small e-commerce businesses.&nbsp; 1099-NEC/MISC Threshold Increased Starting in 2026, reporting is only required for non-employee payments of $2,000 or more (indexed for inflation). This change may reduce the number of 1099s businesses must issue. ERC Compliance Tightened The Employee Retention Credit program now includes stricter claim deadlines and new penalties for non-compliance.&nbsp; New 1% Remittance Transfer Tax Applies to certain outbound cash transfers, such as money orders or cashier’s checks. Withdrawals from bank accounts or credit cards are excluded.&nbsp; SSN Requirements for Education Credits Taxpayers must provide a valid SSN to claim the American Opportunity or Lifetime Learning Credits.

CLEAN ENERGY TAX CREDIT PHASE-OUT&nbsp;

Most Clean Energy Credits Sunset by 2026–2028 This includes credits for electric vehicles, solar panel installations and home energy upgrades.&nbsp; Clean Fuel Production Credit (45Z) Extended through 2029, maintaining incentives for low-carbon fuel producers.&nbsp;

FOR INDIVIDUALS: LOWER RATES AND NEW DEDUCTIONS

TAX RATES AND DEDUCTIONS Permanent Lower Tax Brackets The TCJA's individual tax brackets are now permanent. Annual adjustments for inflation will continue.&nbsp; Higher Standard Deductions for 2025 &nbsp; &nbsp; $15,750 – Single &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;$23,625 – Head of Household&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;$31,500 – Married Filing Jointly SALT Deduction Cap Temporarily Increased The state and local tax deduction cap is raised to $40,000 for 2025, increasing by 1% annually through 2029. A phaseout begins for incomes over $500,000. Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) Exemption Increased Now permanently set at $500,000 for single filers and $1 million for joint returns, indexed for inflation.&nbsp;

Child Tax Credit Increased to $2,200 per child in 2025. The refundable portion of $1,400 is now permanent.&nbsp; Child &amp; Dependent Care Credit Rises to 50% of eligible expenses. Adoption Credit Now up to $5,000 and fully refundable. Dependent Care Assistance Exclusion from income raised from $5,000 to $7,500.

SENIOR BENEFITS AND RETIREMENT PLANNING

Temporary Senior Deduction (2025–2028) A $6,000 deduction is available for individuals age 65+ with modified adjusted gross income under $75,000 ($150,000 for joint filers). This helps shield Social Security income from federal tax. Estate &amp; Gift Tax Exemption Increased Starting in 2026, the exemption rises to $15 million per individual and $30 million per couple, indexed for inflation.&nbsp;

OTHER NOTABLE INDIVIDUAL PROVISIONS

Mortgage Interest Deduction Cap Made Permanent Limited to interest on up to $750,000 of mortgage debt. Casualty Losses Expanded Now includes losses from certain state-declared disasters. Charitable Giving for Non-Itemizers A new above-the-line deduction is available for up to $1,000 (or $2,000 for joint filers) in charitable contributions. Trump Accounts New savings accounts for children, capped at $5,000 per year. Includes a $1,000 tax credit for children born between 2025 and 2028. Employers may contribute on a tax-free basis. 529 Plan Expansion Distributions now permitted for K–12 tuition, qualified postsecondary credentialing programs and traditional higher education expenses, offering greater&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.adamsbrownwc.com/529-savings-plans/">flexibility for education-related savings</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tip Income Deduction Up to $25,000 in tip income may be excluded for individuals earning under $150,000 ($300,000 joint filers). Overtime Income Deduction Up to $12,500 per person ($25,000 joint returns) of overtime wages may be excluded. Car Loan Interest Deduction Up to $10,000 may be deducted for new U.S.-assembled vehicles, even for non-itemizers.&nbsp;

Salina Area United Way launches Emergency Relief Fund after recent flooding

The Kansas State Fair has announced a schedule change for tonight’s Josiah Queen with Ben Fuller concert at the Nex-Tech Grandstand. The show, originally set for 7:30 p.m., will now begin at 6:30 p.m. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m.

Current ticketholders do not need to take any action—tickets remain valid for the adjusted time. Those still looking to attend can purchase tickets at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/12251/kansas-state-fair">etix.com</a>.

Fair officials say the change comes in response to ongoing closures of on-grounds parking lots following heavy rainfall earlier this week. Handicapped parking will remain available near Gates 5 and 9.

By moving the concert up one hour, organizers aim to ensure the show concludes before the Fair’s free shuttle service ends at 11:30 p.m. Shuttles are running from off-site parking locations, including the Hutchinson Sports Arena, Hutchinson Uptown Mall, and Bold 3PL.

The Kansas State Fair runs through Sunday, Sept. 14, with concerts, entertainment, livestock shows, and family activities scheduled daily.

KANSASWORKS partners with Kansas companies to offer weekend job fair

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has begun dirt work in the first phase of reconstruction and realignment of K-4 in Saline County.

The multi-phase project covers about 7 miles of K-4 from the Smoky Hill River bridge to just east of S Kipp Road.

During this first phase of construction, traffic will be minimally impacted with the occasional shoulder closure for grading and drainage structure work off the highway.

Sporer Land Development Inc., of Oakley is the primary contractor for this $23.9 million project and has scheduled the entire project to be completed in Fall 2027.

KDOT urges all motorists to stay alert and follow all posted signs when approaching and driving through a work zone. Three day weather forecast Salina, September 10 - September 12

The US National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Saline County, that has officially taken into effect now and will remain until Wednesday of this week.

According to Saline County Emergency Management, water levels for rivers and creeks have continued to rise from Monday's heavy rainfall. It was estimated between 4 to 10 inches of rain have already fallen across the county, leading to&nbsp;flooded roadways in Brookville&nbsp;and&nbsp;many rural routes that are waterlogged or impassable.

Additional rainfall is expected to occur late tonight (Monday, September 8) into Tuesday morning.&nbsp;Scattered showers and storms are possible, mainly east of Saline County.

Moreover, additional showers and storms are expected to develop from the west on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing extra heavy rainfall.

Then late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, another round of storms are possible.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, allow extra time for commutes and use alternate routes where needed.

Expected to crest at 26.5 feet late tonight into Tuesday afternoon (Moderate Flood Stage). At this level, widespread agricultural flooding is expected. If high flow continues on the Saline River, water could back up on Mulberry Creek, flooding properties including the KOA campground.

Expected to crest at 26.6 feet late Wednesday morning or early afternoon (Minor Flood Stage).

UPDATE: Flood warning issued through Wednesday in Saline County

Storms from this morning throughout Central KS are expected to now continue past noon.

According to the US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS) the scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout Central KS are expected to now continue past noon on Monday.

The National Weather Service also expects a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms to occur tonight in Salina.

Please be aware of the roads as localized flooding is possible.

UPDATE: Central KS storms continue past noon

W. Old 40 Highway between S. Reese and S. Wyman roads in Saline County, are reportedly closed due to flooding.

According to the Saline County Sheriff's Office, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has placed road-closed barricades on W. Old 40 Highway between S. Reese and S. Wyman due to flooding.

The Sheriff's Office will update Salina Post once the highway reopens.

Cold temperatures are expected during the evening hours this weekend, with lows in the 40s.

According to the US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS), after a cold front passed through Central Kansas on early Friday morning, evening lows for tonight and Saturday evening are expected to be from 48-56 degrees.

Temperatures tonight and Saturday evening drop 20-25 degrees below normal, with highs in the 60s for Friday.

Possibilities of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur throughout Central Kansas this evening.

According to the US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS), these storms will gradually increase from the west later tonight and persist through early to mid-evening on Friday. Pockets of heavy rainfall are likely, with a few isolated storms capable of dime to nickel size hail.

Salina has a 68% chance of showers and thunderstorms for tonight.

Another round of thunderstorms anticipated throughout Central Kansas tonight

A round of severe storms are expected to occur later this evening on Wednesday, September 3 in Salina.

According to the US National Weather Service (Wichita, KS), widely scattered storms are anticipated to occur in Salina from the hours of 4:00 - 7:00 pm. These storms reportedly are expected to develop in Central Kansas, move south and east throughout the evening and nighttime hours.

Accordingly, +2 inch sized hail and 60-70 mph wind gusts are possible.&nbsp;

The US National Weather Service advises you to a plan ahead if you have outdoor activities late this afternoon or early this evening of Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a close vote, Senate Republicans defeated an effort Wednesday by Democrats to insert language into Congress’ annual defense authorization bill that would have forced the public release of case files on the sex trafficking investigation into the late&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/jeffrey-epstein">Jeffrey Epstein</a>.

The Senate voted 51-49 to dismiss the changes to the bill, with Republican Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Rand Paul of Kentucky joining with all Democrats in opposition. Kansas U.S. Senators Jery Moran and Roger Marshall voted with the majority.

For months, Democrats have clamored for the release of what’s become known as the Epstein files, looking for practically every opportunity to force Republicans to either join their push for disclosure or publicly oppose a cause that many in the Republican base support. President&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a>&nbsp;signaled as he was running for president that he was open to releasing a full accounting of the case, but is now trying to dismiss the push as a “Democrat hoax.”

So far, Democrats have been successful in forcing Republican leadership to grapple with the issue, yet it was unclear whether they would actually be able to crack Trump’s hold on congressional Republicans to force legislation through Congress.

“I ask my Republican colleagues, after all those years you spent calling for accountability, for transparency, for getting to the bottom of these awful crimes, why won’t you vote yes?” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said in a floor speech Wednesday.

The New York Democrat maneuvered earlier Wednesday to force a procedural vote on language that would force the Justice Department to release the Epstein files, inserting it into an annual defense policy bill that Congress has to pass. Senate Republican leadership was then forced to hold a vote to dispense with Schumer’s amendment, arguing that he was inserting political gamesmanship into defense legislation that often enjoys bipartisan support.

“This is not the right way to do it,” said Sen. Mike Rounds, a South Dakota Republican.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said earlier this week that the Justice Department “has already released tons of files” on Epstein.

“I trust them in terms of having the confidence that they’ll get as much information out there as possible in a way that protects the rights of the victims,” added Thune, R-S.D.

Still, many in the Republican base — as well as some&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-survivors-congress-trump-5d980740245f935c994a90b8ce824642">victims of Epstein’s abuse</a>&nbsp;— have been unsatisfied with what the Justice Department has so far released.

The calls for disclosure of Epstein’s case has at moments consumed Congress, looming over politics even more than when Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail while awaiting trial in 2019 on charges that said he sexually abused and trafficked dozens of underage girls. The case was brought more than a decade after he secretly cut a deal with federal prosecutors in Florida to dispose of nearly identical allegations. Epstein&nbsp;<a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/6184561-Jeffrey-Epstein-indictment.html" target="_blank">was accused</a>&nbsp;of paying underage girls hundreds of dollars in cash for massages and then molesting them.

Asked by reporters Wednesday why Democrats had not pushed for disclosure when they controlled the White House, Schumer responded, “It’s become so apparent that they’re lying about it in every different way and the demands of the American people are so great.”

“The need is greater than ever now,” he added.

Meanwhile, a separate effort to force a vote on a similar bill in the House inched ahead.

Democrats picked up one more House seat when Rep. James Walkinshaw, D-Va., was sworn into office after winning a special election this week. It gives them one more supporter for a procedure — called a discharge petition — to maneuver around Republican leadership’s control of the House floor and hold a vote on legislation to force the Justice Department to release the Epstein files.

Four Republicans have also signed onto the discharge petition, meaning that it is just one name short of having the support needed to potentially force a vote. That could come as soon as the end of this month when a heavily blue congressional district in Arizona holds a special election to fill a vacant seat.

SEDGWICK COUNTY — A Kansas man charged in the death of his pregnant girlfriend will return to court Thursday afternoon.

Matthwe Wayne Criscenzo, 20, is scheduled to attend a plea hearing before Judge Jeffrey Goering, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. He is&nbsp; charged with 1st degree murder and aggravated battery, according to the&nbsp; District Attorney's office.&nbsp;

On May 25, police arrested&nbsp; Criscenzo in the 700 Block of Laura Street in Wichita in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Naomi Oglesby of Wichita. At the time of the incident, she was pregnant, according to Officer Rick Pena. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced deceasd.

Doctors were able to deliver her infant who was transported the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a Wichita hospital.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Plea hearing for Kan. man accused of killing pregnant girlfriend

OREM, Utah (AP) — The FBI released two photos of a person of interest in the assassination of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/live/utah-valley-university-charlie-kirk-shooting-updates">Charlie Kirk</a>, a close ally of President Donald Trump who played an influential role in rallying young Republican voters. The shooter, who fired a single shot from a distant roof, remained at large and unidentified on Thursday nearly 24 hours into the investigation.

The release of photos of a person in a hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeve black shirt, as well as a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, reflected law enforcement's urgent appeal for public help in locating the gunman, who vanished after jumping off the roof and fleeing through a wooded area near the Utah university where Kirk was killed in a targeted attack.

Investigators were sifting through potential clues, including a palm print and a shoe impression found near the scene, as well as a Mauser .30-caliber bolt-action rifle hidden in a towel in a wooded area near the university campus along what they suspect to be the path the shooter took while fleeing. Besides the spent cartridge recovered in the chamber, three other rounds were loaded in the magazine, according to information circulated among law enforcement and described to The Associated Press. The weapon and ammunition are being forensically analyzed by law enforcement at a federal lab for clues that could help identify the shooter or the motive.

The new information suggested at least modest progress in an investigation into a killing that law enforcement was treating as the latest instance of political violence to convulse the United States across the ideological spectrum. Yet key questions remained unanswered. Law enforcement had yet to identify the shooter or disclose a motive and acknowledged at a news conference Thursday that the suspect's college-age appearance may have helped the person blend in on the college campus where Kirk was shot.

The Wednesday afternoon attack, carried out in a broad daylight as Kirk spoke about social issues at a Utah Valley University courtyard, was captured on&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/charlie-kirk-video-graphic-online-social-media-6cfd4dfde356b960aeea69c01ea3ec34">grisly videos circulating on social media</a>. The videos show Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone when suddenly a shot rings out. Kirk can be seen reaching up with his right hand as blood gushes from the left side of his neck. Stunned spectators gasp and scream before people start running away.

Trump, who was joined by Democrats in condemning the violence, said he would award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the U.S., while Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, were set to visit with Kirk’s family in Salt Lake City. Vance posted a remembrance on X chronicling their friendship, dating back to initial messages in 2017, through Vance’s Senate run and ultimately praying after hearing of the shooting.

“So much of the success we’ve had in this administration traces directly to Charlie’s ability to organize and convene,” Vance wrote. “He didn’t just help us win in 2024, he helped us staff the entire government.”

Kirk’s casket was to be flown aboard Air Force Two from Utah to Arizona, where his his nonprofit political youth organization, Turning Point USA, is based.

OREM, Utah (AP) — The sniper who assassinated&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/live/utah-valley-university-charlie-kirk-shooting-updates">Charlie Kirk</a>&nbsp;is believed to have jumped off a roof and fled into a neighborhood after firing one shot and has not been identified, authorities said Thursday in disclosing they have recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle they believe was used in the attack and are reviewing video footage of the person they believe was responsible.
