Kansas Wesleyan Softball saw a seven game losing streak come to an end in a big way on Monday evening as the Coyotes blasted the Bethel Threshers 15-1 in a 5-inning game in the second game of the doubleheader at Salina South High School.

Bethel got a 3-2 win in the first game of Monday's doubleheader.

In the first game, Bethel scored twice in the first inning, and would hold the Coyotes off the board despite <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/c1888b13-0596-424d-a3f5-7a954f172339?elinkdata=23049">Josie Buhr's</a> leadoff double in the bottom of the inning, when she was eventually stranded at third base.

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/fd399565-12e3-482e-a86c-763c7966a8f4?elinkdata=23049">Jenna Soule</a> had a ground-rule double in the second inning and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/5d44801b-11a2-497f-b012-a15323f26a69?elinkdata=23049">Shiloh Johnson</a> reached on an error but Soule would be stranded at third in the inning.

Bethel increased its lead to 3-0 in the third, and the score would remain 3-0 until the fourth.

Wesleyan tried to rally in the seventh as Rubio led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on Johnson's sacrifice bunt, but on the next play Rubio would be called out for interfering with a fielder on Buhr's hit to short to extinguish the rally as the Coyotes fell short.

Buhr had two of KWU's seven hits in the game. <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/e51bdc3c-14be-4670-af41-ee786c8a942a?elinkdata=23049">Caitlyn Collier</a> suffered the loss allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in a complete game performance.

Summers came up for the second time in the frame and quickly unloaded the bases. Summers crushed a no-doubt homer out to left field for a grand slam to put the Coyotes up 15-0.

Mickelsen took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before giving up a leadoff double to the Threshers and then a run on a sacrifice fly for Bethel's lone run of the game.

The newest additions to Anderson Family Football Complex come after recent upgrades to the facility, featuring a renovated weight room, locker room, athletic training space, fueling stations, player lounge, athlete recovery space, staff locker rooms, staff meeting rooms, student services center and more, making Anderson Family Football Complex one of the premier football facilities in all of college football.

Kansas Athletics Unveils New Changes to Anderson Family Football Complex

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kansas State forward Temira Poindexter missed her first six shots against Kentucky in the second round of the women's NCAA Tournament. She finished by hitting eight 3-pointers, and the last one sent the visiting Wildcats to the Sweet 16.

Poindexter made a&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/MarchMadnessWBB/status/1903901655135088762">corner 3 with 56 seconds</a>&nbsp;left in overtime, and Kansas State's defense did the rest to preserve an 80-79 victory Sunday on Kentucky's home court.

“In those moments, I do get down on myself,” Poindexter said. “My teammates come in and have my back and tell me to keep shooting so it really lifts me up and gives me confidence.”

Fifth-seeded Kansas State (28-7) dodged four misses by No. 4 seed Kentucky (23-8) in the closing seconds to advance to face either JuJu Watkins and top-seeded Southern California or No. 9 seed Mississippi State in a regional semifinal in Spokane, Washington.

Kentucky star Georgia Amoore missed a jumper with 21 seconds left, a 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining and then a baseline layup at the buzzer. Amelia Haslett also missed a 3 that would have put Kentucky ahead at Rupp Arena.

“As soon as I caught it, I realized how open I was and it’s up to fate at that point,” Amoore said about her final attempt.

Poindexter finished 8 of 15 beyond the arc to score 24 points.

“Give her credit. She knocked down some very tough shots and we had a couple of situations where we had miscommunication and she got free,” Kentucky coach Kenny Brooks said.

Serena Sundell added 19 points and 14 assists for Kansas State, and her turnaround jumper with 8 seconds left forced overtime. Ayoka Lee scored 16.

Clara Strack led Kentucky with 22 points. Amoore scored 18 points on 7-of-23 shooting.

Amoore hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give Kentucky a 69-67 lead with 32 seconds left in regulation. After Sundell's basket, Kentucky's Dazia Lawrence could not get a clean look before time expired.

There were 21 lead changes, seven in the fourth quarter and overtime.

“You go the last ten minutes of the game and there were just huge shots by both teams and different players,” Kansas State coach Jeff Mittie said. “I’m really proud of our group to to be down five and to need to really dig deep defensively and make plays, but also very little margin for the other end.”

Kansas State: Sundell had 11 points in the first quarter to steady the visiting Wildcats after Kentucky jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. She also became the school's career assist leader.

NORTH NEWTON - After the distance squad opened its season on Friday night at Saint Mary, the rest of the Kansas Wesleyan Men's Outdoor Track team opened its season on Saturday at the Bethel Invitational at Thresher Stadium.

There were plenty of solid performances for the Coyotes.

&nbsp;After some impressive performances by the Kansas Wesleyan Women's Outdoor Track distance squad on Friday night, the rest of the Coyotes got things going on Saturday at the Bethel Invitational.

Wesleyan had some outstanding performances, including already some national qualifiers and school records being set.

The Coyotes went 1-2-3 in the javelin led by <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/e4daeb2b-b786-4cff-a6f7-75279fb866d0?elinkdata=22894">Mayce Russell</a> with a throw of 44.08m setting a new school record, and hitting the NAIA A-Standard, and currently has the top mark in the NAIA. <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/fbab389b-ef1d-4f17-80c0-17a0d4736307?elinkdata=22894">Madelyn Wolf</a> also set a new personal best with a second place finish and a NAIA B-Standard mark of 40.43m. <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/f9f438af-9000-4e28-9444-09d08fd36927?elinkdata=22894">Aunisty McNeal</a> finished third with a mark of 36.74m.

Coyote Track gets Outdoor season going with impressive performances at Bethel

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/a2c61d90-58e4-4286-9228-4bb98cc68897?elinkdata=22770">Tyler Favretto</a> and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/aaf08141-8d9a-4753-9ddb-f192da80051c?elinkdata=22770">Joe Finder</a> hit home runs and drove in three apiece in leading Kansas Wesleyan to a 14-6 victory over York in the first game of a Kansas Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Dean Evans Stadium.

York won the second game 4-2 but the Coyotes took two of three in the weekend series. KWU is now 14-4 in the conference and 19-10 overall; York is 11-14 and 8-9.

"They're a good team, they're much improved from previous years," coach <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/98d126ac-59b3-4575-854b-07a2f7215b98?elinkdata=22770">Bill Neale</a> said of York. "They've already taken two of three from Tabor and two of three from McPherson. It's disappointing, though, when you win the first two games of a series, and you lose the third. It's not really the way you want to end the series."

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/97170dc0-7d93-4fbd-8b59-565620a63fff?elinkdata=22770">Nathan Righi</a> (4-1) started and surrendered six runs on nine hits along with three walks and four strikeouts in the first six innings. <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/e7ed0f59-057f-4eb8-947d-0a7c633936ec?elinkdata=22770">Riley Bradshaw</a> got his first save by pitching three shutout innings and allowing three hits.

"Righi just kind of bulldogged for us today," Neale said. "Probably didn't have his best stuff but they're a good hitting team. He just battled through. Bradshaw did a good job throwing strikes, that was probably the best stuff I've seen him have all year. He was good."

York took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Favretto's home run cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first.

KWU broke it open with six runs in the bottom of the second. Finder's two-run homer made it 3-2, Romero tripled home a run and scored on an error following Williamson's single for a 5-2 lead. Favretto's double scored Williamson that made it 6-2 and Favretto later raced home on another York error.

The Coyotes scored five in the third inning. Allen came home on Romero's ground ball, Williamson's double scored <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/e8398ca9-29b3-4645-821f-021cdf566da8?elinkdata=22770">Blake Dale</a> and Finder for a 10-2 advantage. <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/4360bfef-a0b3-4133-a8cb-e2a0ebf1e503?elinkdata=22770">Chase Aurand</a> scored on Favretto's groundout and Garfield singled in Williamson making it 12-2.

York's got four runs back, three on Cameron Reeve's home run in the fourth inning. Finder's double scored Garfield in the sixth pushed the lead back to 13-6 and Favretto singled in Romero in the seventh for the final run.

York's Ian Heck went the distance in the nightcap allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Both KWU runs came on solo homers - Williamson in the third and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/77bbae3f-9a7d-4c86-b72f-8a52df66fa02?elinkdata=22770">Fernando Ruvalcaba</a> in the seventh.

"He attacked us old school with fastballs," Neale said. "Nowadays everyone wants to throw sliders and breaking balls all the time. He came at us with fastballs 85, 87 (miles per hour) and he located his off-speed stuff when he needed to. He was in attack mode the entire time and we didn't make enough adjustments to hit him. "

KWU baseball splits with York on Saturday, Coyotes claim series

KWU Outdoor Track opens season at Spire Challenge

Yogi Berra was right: "It ain't over till it's over."

Trailing 9-4 in the fourth inning Kansas Wesleyan rallied for a harrowing 10-9 Kansas Conference victory over York on Friday afternoon at Dean Evans Stadium.

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/2f17d9de-a7aa-488b-8b3e-26e0d69235cd?elinkdata=22615">Riley Gwin</a> pitched five scoreless innings out of the bullpen and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/7d52983a-9f1a-4351-8424-55db53064acc?elinkdata=22615">Fernando Ruvalcaba</a> drove in four of his six runs on the day as the Coyotes rose from the abyss.

KWU improved to 18-9 overall and 13-3 in the KCAC while York fell to 10-13 and 7-8.

"I felt like we were off from the start, BP (batting practice) and everything," coach <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/7b55170b-3e6b-4405-8b49-f2aaf80cabf7?elinkdata=22615">Bill Neale</a> said. "We talked to the team mid-game and got the energy up and obviously Riley coming in gave us a spark on the mound and gave us a chance to chip away at that lead."

Tied 4-4 after three innings York scored five runs in the top of the fourth against KWU starter <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/5555e5bb-d961-490a-8e58-fad8ec380d41?elinkdata=22615">Brett Maddock</a>. Ruvalcaba's double drove in <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/574e631b-ad45-47aa-93e3-c7b739761c40?elinkdata=22615">Alex Garcia</a> to make it 9-5 in the bottom of the fourth and Neale sent Gwin, a senior lefthanded, out for the fifth inning.

Gwin (1-0) finished the game allowing four hits with four walks, four strikeouts and a hit batter while throwing 82 pitches.

"He's a four-year guy, he's been here, and he's been through it," Neale said of Gwin. "Probably hasn't pitched as much as he wanted to throughout the years. He's been doing it all year; he's been one of our top bullpen arms and he showed it again today."

Neale said Gwin thrived primarily because of one pitch.

"They just weren't seeing his changeup," he said. "That's the way it's been all year especially righthanded hitters ... and we just left him out there."

Coyote baseball rallies late to get by York 10-9 in series opener

LAWRENCE, Kan. —&nbsp;Bob Davis, the legendary “Voice of the Jayhawks” for more than 30 years, has passed away at the age of 80, his family announced Friday.

Davis is survived by his son, Steven, daughter-in-law Katie and grandchildren Landon, Will, Millie and Hattie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, who died March 13, 2025, in Lawrence. Bob and Linda were married for 53 years. Bob passed away Thursday, March 20th.

Davis, who began his KU career in 1984 and retired in 2016, was at the microphone for some of the most iconic moments in Kansas Athletics history.

“Bob Davis is synonymous with Kansas Athletics for generations of fans, who grew up listening to his calls of some of the most important moments in KU history,” Director of Athletics Travis Goff said. “Bob’s love and passion of the Jayhawks shined through during the broadcast with his beloved radio partners. For more than three decades, Bob represented Kansas Athletics in exemplary fashion and connected Jayhawk fans everywhere with his famous one-liners and detailed storytelling.&nbsp;

“We send our deepest love and prayers to his family and will forever be grateful for his service to KU.”

In the spring of 1984, Davis was hired as the “Voice of the Jayhawks” where he would work alongside Max Falkenstein in the broadcast booth. Davis’ voice is the soundtrack of many of KU’s most memorable games, as he called eight Jayhawk trips to the Final Four, six KU football bowl games, including the 2008 Orange Bowl, and thousands of regular season basketball and football games before his retirement in the spring of 2016.

Davis was also on the call for the 1988 and 2008 men’s basketball national championship victories.

“We lost a KU legend in Bob Davis, who was the voice of the of the Jayhawks for decades,” Kansas Coach Bill Self said. “Bob was not only superior at his craft, but he was also a terrific, humble and unselfish person that gave so much of himself to so many. Our hearts go out to the entire family, especially with his wonderful wife Linda passing just last week.”

Davis also hosted weekly coaches shows as the Voice of the Jayhawks, including hosting with KU basketball coaches Larry Brown, Roy Williams and Self and football coaches, including Glen Mason and Mark Mangino. For more than three decades, Davis was embedded with KU’s teams, striking lifelong relationships with coaches and student-athletes. He proudly worked alongside Falkenstein and basketball analysts Chris Piper and Greg Gurley and football’s David Lawrence.

“Bob’s distinctive and enthusiastic voice served as the soundtrack for Kansas teams for decades” Mangino said. “He was a good friend and fun to be around. Our players and coaches loved Bob, and enjoyed his calls on highlight reels.”

A 48-year veteran of broadcasting in the state of Kansas, Davis was born in Iola, and grew up in Topeka where he graduated from Topeka West High School in 1962. Davis stayed in Topeka to attend Washburn, where he graduated in 1967 with a degree in history.

Davis launched his legendary broadcast career the following year in 1968 when

Hired by KAYS in Hays, Kansas and began his broadcasting career during the summer of 1968 calling American Legion baseball. He was the play-by-play voice of the Fort Hays State Tigers until 1984, his tenure culminating by calling the 1984 NAIA National Championship won by the FHSU men’s basketball team.

In addition to his KU role, Davis called the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four for CBS Radio six times in 1990, 1992 and 1994-97. Also, in 1997, Davis joined the Kansas City Royals as well, calling games for radio and television for the franchise for 16 years.

Davis earned numerous accolades for his work. He was named the Kansas Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sports Writers Association in 2015, marking the 14th time he had earned the honor since 1975. Davis was also named the two-time recipient of the Oscar Stauffer Sports Broadcasting Award by the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) in 1975 and 1978.

NEW YORK (AP) —George Foreman, the fearsome heavyweight who lost the “Rumble in the Jungle” to Muhammad Ali before his inspiring second act as a 45-year-old champion and a successful businessman, died Friday night. He was 76.

Foreman's family&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DHe5UtIJ4IQ/" target="_blank">announced his death on social media</a>.
