KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Louisville Slugger&nbsp;this morning announced American League finalists for the 2025 Silver Slugger Awards, including four Royals: catcher&nbsp;Salvador Perez, first baseman&nbsp;Vinnie Pasquantino, shortstop&nbsp;Bobby Witt Jr.&nbsp;and&nbsp;Maikel Garcia, who is a finalist for the Silver Slugger Utility Award.

The Royals are one of three American League teams with four finalists, along with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. The winners will be announced on Friday, Nov. 7.

Finalists and winners are determined by a vote of American League Managers and coaches who cast ballots for players at each position in their league. Each AL team receives four votes; the Manager and three coaches of the team’s choice. Votes are based on a combination of offensive statistics including OPS, OPS+, home runs, RBI, batting average, total bases and runs, as well as the Managers’ and coaches’ general impressions of a player’s overall offensive value.

Perez is one of three finalists among American League catchers, joining Seattle’s&nbsp;Cal Raleigh&nbsp;and the Athletics&nbsp;Shea Langeliers. Pasquantino joins Toronto’s&nbsp;Vladimir Guerrero Jr.&nbsp;and the Athletics&nbsp;Nick Kurtz&nbsp;as finalists among AL first basemen. Witt Jr. is one of three finalists among AL shortstops, along with Toronto’s&nbsp;Bo Bichette&nbsp;and Houston’s&nbsp;Jeremy Peña. Garcia is one of three AL players up for the Utility Award, along with Detroit’s&nbsp;Zach McKinstry&nbsp;and New York’s&nbsp;Ben Rice.

Perez, 35, recorded 30 home runs and 100 RBI in 155 games in 2025. The 30 home runs were the 2nd-highest total of his career, and it marked his second straight season with at least 100 RBI. He was the second catcher (min. 50% games at the position) to record 100 RBI in his age-35 season (or older), joining&nbsp;Carlton Fisk, who had 107 RBI at age 37 in 1985.

Among AL catchers in 2025 (min. 50% games played at the position), he ranked 1st in doubles (35), 2nd in hits (141), extra-base hits (65) and RBI and 3rd in HR.

Salvy has been a finalist for a Silver Slugger Award in 11 of the last 12 seasons since 2014, with the only exception being 2019, when he missed the entire season due to injury. He’s a five-time Silver Slugger winner, the most in Royals history, and is one of nine catchers to win at least five Silver Slugger Awards.

Pasquantino is a Silver Slugger finalist for the first time after setting career highs across the board in 2025, while ranking among the AL leaders at first base in extra-base hits (66, 1st), RBI (113, 1st), hits (164, 2nd), doubles (33, 2nd) and HR (32, 2nd).

His 113 RBI ranked 3rd among all AL players, trailing only Raleigh (125) and&nbsp;Aaron Judge&nbsp;(114). In 64 games after the All-Star break, Pasquantino had 57 RBI, most in the American League. For the season, he led Major League Baseball with 32 go-ahead RBI, ahead of Judge (31).

Witt Jr. is a finalist for the third straight season and won his first Silver Slugger Award last year. In 2025, he led the Majors in hits (184) for the second consecutive season, becoming the first player to accomplish that feat (excluding 2020) since&nbsp;Whit Merrifield&nbsp;did it for the Royals from 2018-19. Witt Jr. also led the Majors with 47 doubles this season.

Witt Jr. recorded at least 1 hit in 127 games, 10 more than&nbsp;Shohei Ohtani&nbsp;and&nbsp;Elly De La Cruz&nbsp;(117) for the most in the Majors. He had the longest hit streak in the Majors in 2025 (22 games) and had hit streaks of 18 and 14 games.

Among AL shortstops, Witt Jr. ranked 1st in hits, doubles, extra-base hits (76), triples (6), runs (99), stolen bases (38), slugging percentage (.501) and OPS (.852), and he ranked 3rd in HR (23) and RBI (88).

Witt Jr. was one of two players in the Majors in 2025 to record at least 75 extra-base hits and 30 stolen bases, along with&nbsp;Corbin Carroll. He became the first player in Major League history this season to record at least 20 HR and 30 stolen bases in each of his first four seasons.

Garcia, 25, is a finalist for the Utility Award, which recognizes the top offensive performer who plays multiple positions, a category that was created in 2022.

Four Royals Named Finalists for 2025 Silver Slugger Awards

LINDSBORG - Two quick first half goals set the tone for the Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer team as the Coyotes cruised to a 4-1 win over the Bethany Swedes on Wednesday night.

It was the fifth minute when the Coyotes scored first, a goal by <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/3377a902-8bbe-4661-a967-30f883f06740?elinkdata=31267">Brennen Lamont</a> assisted by <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/37d27b1e-2d01-4100-b8b6-c82da6a05552?elinkdata=31267">Simon Fischer</a>. Fischer sent a long ball from the back over the top to Lamont who tracked down the ball and scored far post for the goal.

In the 11th minute <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/fd8fe692-29bb-4e30-8ad0-0b038fa21cca?elinkdata=31267">Seth Flores</a> sent a ball from the left side into the box to <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/aa40cbb3-d46e-41ae-b829-5f381a83cfac?elinkdata=31267">Noel Zimbeva</a> who sent it home to make it 2-0.

In the second half, the Coyotes were on the board again quickly. On a set piece corner, Gonzalo Gaubecka sent the ball into the box. It was knocked around a few times by several players before landing at the feet of Fischer who scored it.

In the 55th minute, the Coyotes got a second goal by Zimbeva, this time on a penalty kick.

Bethany got a late goal to break the shutout from Steven McQueen in the 88th minute.

Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball came away with a sweep of the Bethany Swedes 26-24, 25-17, 25-20 on Wednesday night inside Mabee Arena.

The victory gets the Coyotes back to .500 overall at 11-11, and to 5-3 in the KCAC. Bethany fell to 3-15 overall and is still in search of its first KCAC win of the season.

Wesleyan sped out to a 3-0 lead to start the match, but Bethany came came and took a 6-5 lead in the set. Bethany pushed out to a 10-7 lead in the set before the Coyotes came roaring back. Kansas Athletics Announces Sellout for Dillons Sunflower Showdown

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;University of Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels has been named a finalist for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy, the nation’s premier scholar-athlete award. The award, announced by the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame, annually recognizes the nation's best football scholar-athlete – all divisions and the NAIA – based on combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

Daniels is one of 16 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy and will receive an&nbsp;$18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2025 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. He will travel to Las Vegas for the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Bellagio Hotel &amp; Casino.

One member of the class will be selected the winner of the 35th William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

Daniels becomes Kansas’ fifth NFF National Scholar-Athlete all-time joining Todd Reesing (2008), Tom Fitch (1977), Mike McCoy (1971) and Ron Oelschlager (1964).

Daniels, a native of Lawndale, Calif., is Kansas’ first four-time team captain and was Kansas’s first Big 12 Football Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2024. Daniels was recently named a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, awarded to honor exemplary leadership by a college player on and off the field.

Daniels is having a historic 2025 season, completing 130-of-186 passing for 1,752 yards and 18 touchdowns. Through seven games, Daniels' 18 passing touchdowns are tied for the sixth most in college football and are tied for his career high in a single season. Over his career, Daniels ranks among the best quarterbacks in program history, completing 666-of-1,060 passing for 8,503 yards and 63 touchdowns, all of which rank second in school history. Daniels has also rushed for 1,240 career rushing yards and 20 career rushing touchdowns.

Daniels has excelled on and off the field as a five-time Academic All-Big 12 member and a 2022 CSC Academic All-American. Daniels has also been very involved in community, launching the "Mom2JD6" Foundation committed to supporting single mothers raising athletic children by providing financial aid, mentorship, sports training, and community resources. Daniels also contributed to Kansas football’s offseason community service program, which dedicated a program record 517 hours of community service during the summer of 2025.

Submitted by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the Campbell Trophy®&nbsp;must be either a senior player who will complete his final year of eligibility during the 2025 season or be a graduated player or grad transfer who has already earned a bachelor’s degree and participating in the 2025 season; must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; must have outstanding football ability as a starter/significant contributor; and must have exhibited exemplary leadership on the field, in the classroom and within the community.

Jalon Daniels Named a Finalist for 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy

DODGE CITY - The KCAC Match Play event has been around for seven seasons, beginning in the 2019-20 season.

KWU came away with a victory in KCAC Match Play, held on Monday and Tuesday at Mariah Hills. It's the fifth win in the seven years of the Match Play event. KWU narrowly finished second a year ago after winning the previous four events, but ascended back to the top this season.

The Coyotes fought through less than ideal weather conditions in Monday's qualifying round, fighting through extremely gusty winds and chilly temperatures, but came away with the No. 1 seed with a 375 for the round, three shots better than Evangel in the qualifying scores.

They (Las Vegas Raiders) just came off a nice win and had some momentum going there and I thought our guys came out and really were able to stay aggressive both defensively and offensively from the start. Which I thought was important and then our fans jump in on that, and that’s a tough ask for a team to come into. There’s a bunch of individual things that I could address from Pat’s (Mahomes) day to the offensive line’s day to (Travis) Kelce had a few catches and getting Rashee (Rice) back in there, I thought was tremendous. The energy that he (Rashee Rice) brings along with Xavier (Worthy) and the other guys, I mean it’s contagious. Then for a defense to shutout another – an NFL offense is very rare. Just by the stat that you guys threw out there (that) I’ve been a head coach and never had a shutout. I’ve coached a couple of years and for that to happen, that’s obviously got to be a tough thing to do. He’s got great vision, and he’s always been good at that part of it. Having him back there is a – that’s a great thing. Having him on our roster is a great thing because he brings this veteran leadership, a confidence to that group, which I appreciate. He’s seen a lot of things and been through a lot of things and does a great job of handling himself.”

Q:&nbsp;What did you see from Patrick Mahomes after watching film?

REID:&nbsp;“You saw him (Patrick Mahomes) execute all the phases in the offense. We have different categories there, whether it’s play pass movements, whether it’s three-step drop, five step drop concepts and then all the screen game that goes with that. We do a variety of screens. I liked the way he handled that. His checks were good at the line of scrimmage when he had to put a little Hollywood (acting) into things, he did good with that and some of the tricky stuff. I thought he handled everything real well.”

Q: What are you seeing from Brashard Smith’s progression?

REID:&nbsp;“I think (Offensive Coordinator) Matt’s (Nagy) done a nice job along with (Running Backs Coach) Todd (Pinkston) and (Assistant Running Backs Coach) Mark (DeLeone) of just bringing him (Brashard Smith) along. He had, I want to say, 14 touches yesterday or so and did a nice job of that. He’s catching the ball well, and I like where he’s at now. He’s in a good frame of mind and he’s picking things up. So, we just keep coming with him.”

Q: Do you want a running back that can do everything, or do you have different guys for different jobs? Do you think Brashard Smith one day could grow into that guy?

REID:&nbsp;“I’ve always believed that you need three guys. We’ve normally used all three (running backs) when we’ve had them. I’ve done that for a lot of years now. They’re all contributing in their own way. I think it’s important for Pop (Isiah Pacheco) to get in there and get going. He is the best when he does that. Kareem (Hunt) understands that, and Kareem gets to pick and choose where he goes in there or we’re able to pick and choose where he goes in there. And then (Brashard) Smith gives you a whole different – it’s a different deal because he had played the wide receiver position at the University of Miami before he got to SMU so his ability to catch the ball on screens and those type of things is good and he’s got the protections down now so he can stand back there and still protect. He’s not quite as strong as the other guys. If you had to pick something where he can get better at, he’s going to need an offseason to get him even stronger than what he is to tote it every play, but he’ll work on that. He’s a pretty diligent kid.”

He doesn’t say a lot but there’s a confidence there that he presents and makes you feel like I got it, I got everything under control (and) dial me up. That’s a great thing to have and when we have – we’re mixing and matching here so everybody’s getting a chance and when he gets a chance to move with the ball in his area he’s coming down with it. His hands are phenomenal. He does a nice job of that. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s fearless inside which you don’t see a lot of that in this league. Some of his best work happens in there and I appreciate that.”

Q: How important is it to give your coaches specific tasks so they can use them in their future coaching careers?

REID:&nbsp;“Yeah Nick (Jacobs), I think it’s good for them in a few areas. It’s always good to be accountable for something and it makes your game even better as a coach and as a player. K-State Basketball Big 12 Single-Game Ticket On-Sale Dates Announced

The longstanding in-state rivalry will kick off at 11 a.m., on TNT/truTV/HBO Max with JB Long, Mike Golic Jr., and Coy Wire on the call.

The Jayhawks enter the mid-season matchup coming off their second open week of the season. The Jayhawks sit at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play just past the midway point of the season. The Wildcats also enjoyed their second open date of the season last weekend and last played on Oct. 11, when they topped visiting TCU 41-28 in Manhattan.

Kansas enters the matchup having won three of their first four games this season at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, picking up wins over Fresno State, Wagner and West Virginia. The Jayhawks have been led by quarterback Jalon Daniels, who has 18 touchdown passes to just two interceptions through seven games this season. His 18 touchdown passes rank tied for sixth in the country and he’s one of just three signal-callers in the country with 18 or more touchdowns and two or fewer interceptions.

The 18 touchdown passes from Daniels already match his career high, which was established in 2022. All total, he has completed 138-of-186 passes for 1,752 yards. The 18 touchdown passes already rank tied for fifth for most touchdown passes in a season in school history. He will move into a tie for fourth with four more. Daniels also has 226 rushing yards and a touchdown to his credit this season.

Senior wideout Emmanuel Henderson Jr., has emerged as Daniels’ top target with 31 catches for 530 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Tight end Boden Groen has also been a standout in his first season with the Jayhawks, collecting 25 catches for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Leshon Williams leads the ground attack, with the running back rushing for 309 yards and five touchdowns in six games this season.

Defensively, linebacker Trey Lathan continues to lead the way for Kansas with 49 total tackles, six tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception and three pass breakups. He’s complemented by linebacker Bangally Kamara, who leads the team with eight tackles-for-loss, despite missing a game and a half. Defensive end Leroy Harris III leads the squad with 4.5 sacks.

On the other side of the ball will be a Kansas State team that has won two of its last three games with the one loss going as a one-point loss on the road at Baylor. Jayhawks Welcome Wildcats to Lawrence for Dillons Sunflower Showdown

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs so thoroughly dominated the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday that they probably didn't need Rashee Rice, who had come back from a torn ACL and a six-game suspension to give them yet another dynamic weapon.

The rest of the season? Well, the Chiefs think Rice may be the last piece they need to chase another championship.

“We have a lot of weapons. We have a lot of guys and they all love each other, and they want each other to succeed,” said quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns — two of them to Rice — in a 31-0 victory so lopsided that the two-time league MVP got to spend the entire fourth quarter watching it from the bench.

“We want to be better than what we are now,” Mahomes said, “but this was a good step in the right direction.”

Rice finished with seven catches for 42 yards in his first game&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-rashee-rice-9475202aa5efade7b9a9be140e2c798c">since Week 4 last season,</a>&nbsp;when he tore up his knee in a collision with Mahomes. Rice made it back from the injury in time to participate in the offseason and training camp, then was suspended before the start of the season for his role in a high-speed car crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024.

Rice's return sparked an offense that scored on its first five possessions against Las Vegas and finished with 434 yards in all.

“I think it's a glimpse of what's possible,” Rice said, “and what's to come.”

It didn't help ailing Las Vegas to play most of the game&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/las-vegas-raiders-kansas-city-chiefs-36d67adf45a07ee045b9e377dae23b07">without star pass rusher Maxx Crosby</a>, who left late in the first half with a knee injury. The Raiders also lost defensive tackle Adam Butler to a back injury during the game.

The Chiefs (4-3) were nearly as good on defense, though, holding the Raiders to three first downs and 96 yards while beating them for the 10th time in the last 11 matchups. Geno Smith finished 10 of 16 for 67 yards, while Ashton Jeanty, one of the NFL's top rookies, carried just six times for 21 yards.

It was the fourth and most lopsided shutout by Kansas City in its 133-game history against the Raiders.

“This was a game I didn't see coming,” Raiders coach Pete Carroll said. “We prepared really well. We were tuned in. I couldn't imagine the guys that weren't able to play in this game would have been that much of a factor.”

In truth, the Chiefs had started to hum the past couple of weeks, including in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-analysis-5ebcfaffabfb346389fc4fe5bd53e019">a 30-17 rout of the Lions</a>&nbsp;last week. And with Rice, it looked like the high-flying attack that Mahomes made famous with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill so many years ago.

Rice had a pair of catches on their opening drive, including a 2-yard touchdown reception to finish off the 92-yard march. He had two more on the next drive, an 84-yard trek that Marquise Brown finished with a TD catch. And Rice capped the Chiefs' big first half with a 3-yard touchdown reception with 10 seconds left to make it 21-0 at the break.

“I think you saw the trust that Pat has in him,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid. “The energy he brings is infectious.”

The lopsided nature of the first half was staggering.

The Chiefs had a 21-2 advantage in first downs. They had a 275-51 edge in yards, and that includes six meaningless yards that Jeanty gained on the final run of the half. And the Chiefs became the first team since at least 2000 to start a game with three TD drives of at least 80 yards, allowing them to consume nearly 21 minutes of the first half.

Oh, and the Chiefs got to receive the second-half kickoff.

They proceeded to march 65 yards for another touchdown, this time with Isiah Pacheco doing the honors on the ground to finish it off. And after another three-and-out by the Raiders, a 66-yard march produced a field goal that made it 31-0.

Mahomes and several starters took a seat by the end of the third quarter, allowing Gardner Minshew to finish the rout.

“Very seldom do you have a fourth quarter where you don't throw the ball. It doesn't happen very often,” Reid said.

The only question remaining was whether the Raiders would make it back across midfield again. They made it for two offensive plays on the first drive of the game, when a holding call on Jackson Powers-Johnson led to them eventually punting.

“They're a terrific team,” Carroll said. “They did everything like they do. And the played really well in all phases, and they kept us totally at bay. We couldn't make a first down and couldn't get off the field. They just did like they do.”

Las Vegas: WR Jakobi Meyers (knee) and TE Brock Bowers (knee) were inactive. Crosby and Butler only added to the problems.

Kansas City: LT Josh Simmons was inactive due to personal reasons. LG Trey Smith left with a back injury, DT Omar-Norman Lott hurt his knee and RT Jawaan Taylor banged up his shoulder.

The Raiders are off next week before facing Jacksonville on Nov. 2.

The Chiefs play Washington next Monday night.

(AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs so thoroughly dominated the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday that they probably didn't need Rashee Rice, who had come back from a torn ACL and a six-game suspension to give them yet another dynamic weapon.The rest of the season? Well, the Chiefs think Rice may be the last piece they need to chase another championship.“We have a lot of weapons. We have a lot of guys and they all love each other, and they want each other to succeed,” said quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns — two of them to Rice — in a 31-0 victory so lopsided that the two-time league MVP got to spend the entire fourth quarter watching it from the bench.“We want to be better than what we are now,” Mahomes said, “but this was a good step in the right direction.”Rice finished with seven catches for 42 yards in his first game&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-rashee-rice-9475202aa5efade7b9a9be140e2c798c">since Week 4 last season,</a>&nbsp;when he tore up his knee in a collision with Mahomes. Rice made it back from the injury in time to participate in the offseason and training camp, then was suspended before the start of the season for his role in a high-speed car crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024.Rice's return sparked an offense that scored on its first five possessions against Las Vegas and finished with 434 yards in all.“I think it's a glimpse of what's possible,” Rice said, “and what's to come.”It didn't help ailing Las Vegas to play most of the game&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/las-vegas-raiders-kansas-city-chiefs-36d67adf45a07ee045b9e377dae23b07">without star pass rusher Maxx Crosby</a>, who left late in the first half with a knee injury. The Raiders also lost defensive tackle Adam Butler to a back injury during the game.The Chiefs (4-3) were nearly as good on defense, though, holding the Raiders to three first downs and 96 yards while beating them for the 10th time in the last 11 matchups. Geno Smith finished 10 of 16 for 67 yards, while Ashton Jeanty, one of the NFL's top rookies, carried just six times for 21 yards.It was the fourth and most lopsided shutout by Kansas City in its 133-game history against the Raiders.“This was a game I didn't see coming,” Raiders coach Pete Carroll said. “We prepared really well. We were tuned in. I couldn't imagine the guys that weren't able to play in this game would have been that much of a factor.”In truth, the Chiefs had started to hum the past couple of weeks, including in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-analysis-5ebcfaffabfb346389fc4fe5bd53e019">a 30-17 rout of the Lions</a>&nbsp;last week. And with Rice, it looked like the high-flying attack that Mahomes made famous with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill so many years ago.Rice had a pair of catches on their opening drive, including a 2-yard touchdown reception to finish off the 92-yard march. He had two more on the next drive, an 84-yard trek that Marquise Brown finished with a TD catch. And Rice capped the Chiefs' big first half with a 3-yard touchdown reception with 10 seconds left to make it 21-0 at the break.“I think you saw the trust that Pat has in him,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid. “The energy he brings is infectious.”The lopsided nature of the first half was staggering.The Chiefs had a 21-2 advantage in first downs. They had a 275-51 edge in yards, and that includes six meaningless yards that Jeanty gained on the final run of the half. And the Chiefs became the first team since at least 2000 to start a game with three TD drives of at least 80 yards, allowing them to consume nearly 21 minutes of the first half.Oh, and the Chiefs got to receive the second-half kickoff.They proceeded to march 65 yards for another touchdown, this time with Isiah Pacheco doing the honors on the ground to finish it off. And after another three-and-out by the Raiders, a 66-yard march produced a field goal that made it 31-0.Mahomes and several starters took a seat by the end of the third quarter, allowing Gardner Minshew to finish the rout.“Very seldom do you have a fourth quarter where you don't throw the ball. It doesn't happen very often,” Reid said.The only question remaining was whether the Raiders would make it back across midfield again. They made it for two offensive plays on the first drive of the game, when a holding call on Jackson Powers-Johnson led to them eventually punting.The answer: They did not come close.“They're a terrific team,” Carroll said. “They did everything like they do. And the played really well in all phases, and they kept us totally at bay. We couldn't make a first down and couldn't get off the field. They just did like they do.”<h2>Injuries</h2>Las Vegas: WR Jakobi Meyers (knee) and TE Brock Bowers (knee) were inactive. Crosby and Butler only added to the problems.Kansas City: LT Josh Simmons was inactive due to personal reasons. LG Trey Smith left with a back injury, DT Omar-Norman Lott hurt his knee and RT Jawaan Taylor banged up his shoulder.<h2>Up Next</h2>The Raiders are off next week before facing Jacksonville on Nov. 2.The Chiefs play Washington next Monday night.

Austad, who missed Kansas Wesleyan's previous game two weeks ago against Evangel because of an injury, threw for 303 yards, a touchdown and ran for another in leading the Coyotes to a 42-21 Kansas Conference and Gene Bissell Division victory Saturday afternoon at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium.

The Coyotes ended a two-game losing streak and raised their record to 5-2, 1-0 in the division.

Austad completed 24 of 36 passes with no interceptions and was sacked once as KWU posted a season-high point total.

"You could tell just watching him out there Henry's not a hundred percent, but he gutted this one out. He is a tough, tough, tough dude," coach <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/e0ce1044-5391-4e86-84a5-4cdaec59cbc0?elinkdata=31003">Matt Middleton</a> said on the postgame radio show. "For him to be able to come back in two weeks from his injury and sit in the pocket and make some things happens with his legs says a lot about who he is as a person, as a competitor."

Austad wasn't the only Coyote who had a big game. Running back <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/fd5c1b5e-6977-4135-b3ca-2ccb0fd72256?elinkdata=31003">D'Heaven Domena</a> ran for 90 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns - three rushing and one receiving. Wide receiver <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/5c305849-0f72-424c-aaf1-29b77705033d?elinkdata=31003">Rhadarious Lomax-Spivey</a> caught eight passes for 153 yards and a touchdown while wide out <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/54c25d64-12e3-408e-a831-55dc04245fbd?elinkdata=31003">Jevin Dorsey</a> had seven receptions for 88 yards as Wesleyan outgained Saint Mary in total yards 476-315.

Dorsey returned to the lineup after missing three games with an injury, but fellow end <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/30fde88e-6fab-4810-a419-be3bd2d98a93?elinkdata=31003">Will Wilcox</a> didn't play after suffering an injury during practice Thursday.

"I don't know that I've ever been through a year where we've had so many key starters or people be out for the year," Middleton said. "Sure wish I had all my bullets, but it is what it is. I'm super proud of these kids and how hard they've worked and how they've kept chopping wood with a chance to continue to win games."

The Coyotes were magnificent defensively as usual. After allowing two first quarter touchdowns the Spires didn't score again until the 5:06 mark of the fourth quarter.

KWU entered the game with three interceptions on the season but picked off four passes Saturday - two by <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/e2d80082-2078-45d4-8628-6bf55daa1451?elinkdata=31003">Taylor Collins</a> and one each by <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/ee9dbf21-72bf-4c5e-bd59-17ce593bf1ab?elinkdata=31003">Jamison Price</a> and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/ef459dbf-1843-449e-ac27-0dfa272a1d0f?elinkdata=31003">Brennon Allen</a>. Price led the defense with 10 tackles while Allen had eight.

The Coyotes scored first on Domena's one-yard run with 10:42 left in the first quarter. Saint Mary took a 14-7 lead with back-to-back touchdowns, but KWU tied it 14-14 on the third play of the second quarter on Austad's 57-yard bomb to Lomax-Spivey.

Austad was hurt three plays after Collins' first interception and briefly left the game. Backup quarter <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/86c663f4-b154-4f22-a7d5-d08b27ac0f7e?elinkdata=31003">Caden Middleton</a> came on and promptly threw a screen pass to Domena who sprinted 51 yards for a touchdown that gave KWU a 21-14 lead with 3:59 left in the half.

Domena's third touchdown on a one-yard came with 31 seconds left in the half finished a nine-play, 93-yard drive that gave the Coyotes a 28-14 lead they took into intermission.
