Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer opened Kansas Conference play on Wednesday with a hardfought 3-2 win over the Bethel College Threshers at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
Juan Manuel Lozada Leon's 81st minute goal was the difference maker for the Coyotes in the back-and-forth battle between the teams.
Bethel was first on the board in the 23rd minute on a goal by Ricardo Navarro.
In the 25th minute the Coyotes got the equalizer on a penalty kick converted by Lozada. The penalty awarded after a foul in the box by Bethel.
Tyrese Osayande gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead at the half as he scored off a pass by Lozada in the 43rd minute.
Bethel opened the scoring in the second half as Brendan Balvanz scored in the 49th minute to tie things up at 2-2.
The match remained tied despite the Coyotes having several good looks at goals, just narrowly missing finding the net.
Finally in the 81st, Lozada broke through and scored it to give the Coyotes the lead.
Lozada led the way with eight shots for the Coyotes, five on frame. He had a hand in all three goals for the Coyotes, scoring twice and assisting the third.
KWU outshot Bethel 18-7 in the match.
