Georgia Marie Phillips January 7, 1928 ~ March 16, 2024

Georgia Marie Phillips, 96 of Abilene, Kansas passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Village Manor Nursing Home. Georgia was born on January 7, 1928 in Enterprise, Kansas, the daughter of George and Amy Haslouer. She grew up in the Enterprise area. She married Donald Phillips on September 22, 1947 at St. Andrew’s church in Abilene, KS. Don and Georgia had four children; Patricia, Jeanette, Sarah, and Charles.

Georgia was a homemaker during the early married years, and after the kids got into school, she worked for eight years as a nurses’ aide. She then drove a nine passenger school bus for the Chapman school district for six years. Georgia was a Girl Scout Leader for ten years and leader of the food’s class in 4H for six years. She enjoyed oil painting (many of which can be found in the children’s homes), gardening, and most any type of craft. She was also active in the Enterprise EHU group. She and Don had a standing monthly pinochle game with their Enterprise friends. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Abilene.

Her main interest was always with her children and grandchildren. She was always there for the kids growing up, but, she loved taking care of the grandkid’s; watching them for their parents, going to their sporting events, dances, 4H reviews, and anything else they might be involved in. To some of them she was the “orange” grandma, to others “Grandma Lambie”, but to all, greatly loved.

Survivor’s include: her children, Patricia Oglesby (Mike) of Goodyear, AZ; Jeanette Vahsholtz of Abilene, KS; Sarah Tidwell of Emporia, KS; and Charles Phillips (Jackie) of Enterprise, KS; eight grandchildren, Michelle Roeser (Rayne), Amanda Kay (Aaron), Travis Ramos, Philip Tidwell (Liesl), Chris Tidwell (Stephanie), Cassie Kolinski (Trevor), Callie Bell (TJ), and Carlie Huser (Adam); 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents (George and Amy Haslouer), her husband (Don Phillips), a grandchild (Curt Oglesby) and a great grandchild (Chance Ramos).

John Munson, Jr., was born June 2, 1943 in Salina, Kansas. The son of John and Evelyn Munson and departed this life on Monday, March 18, 2024.

John is survived by his wife, Jody Munson of Tescott; son, Mike and Cerci Munson of Salina; stepsons, Casey and Shannon Caughron of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Corey and Jill Caughron of Haslet, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cheryl Swaim; son, Jeffrey Munson; and daughter, Shelly Munson.

John thanks everyone who shared his life with him in good times and encouraged him throughout the more difficult times.

Honoring John's wishes, he was cremated and did not want any services.

Arvetta Fern Bethe March 21, 1928 ~ March 14, 2024

Arvetta Fern Bethe passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Brookdale – Salina – Fairdale Facility after a short illness. &nbsp;She was born March 21, 1928, at Kipp, Kansas to Clifford and Rosella (Thomas) Ireton.

At the age of six, her parents passed away in a house fire, and Arvetta and her sister, Mary Louise, and brothers Fred and Irvin were adopted. Arvetta was adopted by Alfred and Ethel Hawkinson of Salina. &nbsp;She attended public schools and Bethany College in Lindsborg, majoring in vocal music.

August of 1949, she married Warren E Bergquist of Smolan, Kansas. &nbsp;He preceeded her in death in an October 1950 due to a farm accident. &nbsp;To this union a daughter, Janice, was born.

August 1956, she married Harvey L. Miller of Salina and he preceeded her in death in April of 1987. &nbsp;To this union two daughters Anita and Rita were born and Harvey had a son, Curtis.

In June 1988, she married Charles Dean Bethe of Salina, and he passed away in July 2020. &nbsp;Dean had four children.

During her earlier years, Arvetta was a vocalist for a local radio station and later worked as a nurse aide at St John’s Hospital and had many rental properties in Salina.

Arvetta is survived by her three daughters: Janice (Robert) Beckham of Pittsburg, KS, Anita (Sam) Binder of Lenore, ID, and Rita Price and friend Mike Deans of Salina, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel. Services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 1:30pm at the First Baptist Church, 843 Lewis, Salina. &nbsp;Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1920 E Crawford Street, Salina. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 843 Lewis, Salina, KS 67401.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Friday, March 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr Fred Gatschet as celebrant.&nbsp; Burial will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.

Mary Ruth (Opat) Busch September 5, 1954 ~&nbsp;March 15, 2024

Mary Ruth (Opat) Busch was born September 5, 1954, at McPherson Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Adam Bernard and Bertha Ann (Everhart) Opat.&nbsp; &nbsp;She went home to be with her Lord on March 15, 2024, after a massive stroke.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mary had a somewhat difficult life, getting polio on her first birthday, which affected her left side.&nbsp; She had multiple surgeries over the years, culminating with a complete shoulder fusion, which made her arm stop growing.&nbsp; Mary was told that she should not have any children due to the ether and other treatments that she had for the polio.&nbsp; So, she had planned on becoming a nun.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Then, in the summer of 1971, when she was only 16, she met the love of her life, Jody Lee Busch, who she married on January 29, 1972, in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; This marriage was blessed with six children, Adam, Jennifer, Crystal, Amy, Zach, and Annie.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jody; six children, Adam (Buffy) Busch, Jennifer (Chris) Strawn, Crystal (Henke) Galloway, Amy (Shawn) Busch, Zach (Chelsea) Busch, and Annie (Jason) Brown; 18 grandchildren, Jordan (Brittany) Busch, Katlynn (Gabriel) Wilson, Kimberlee (Josh) Cook, Darian (Cole) Taylor, Tate Galloway, Andrew Galloway, Jake Strawn, Jaycee Welch, Tobias Galloway, Haylee Busch, Kylee Busch, Teighlor Welch, Jandie Busch, Hunter Brown, Kaiden Brown, McKenna Galloway, Jonah Busch, and Ashcroft Busch; seven great-grandchildren, Owen Busch, Sophia Silva, Aubree Busch, Gabriel Wilson, Jr., Roman Wilson, Charlie Wilson, and Benton Cook; siblings, Steven (Maria) Opat, Julie (Phil) Kornelson, and Susan Hart; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam &amp; Bertha Opat; grandchild, Peyton Welch; grandparents, Frank &amp; Ruth Everhart and Martin &amp; Frieda Opat; and a brother, Michael Opat.

Ronald Lee Young August 27, 1953 ~ March 9, 2024

It is with heavy hearts, we share the news of Doctor Ronald Lee Young's departure from this world on March 9, 2024, in Salina, Kansas. Born on August 27, 1953, in Salina, Kansas, Ron's journey was one of passion, dedication, and immeasurable love.

From his early days, Ron was driven by a quest for knowledge and an eagerness to serve. His path led him to Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he graduated in December 1982. Soon after, he opened the doors of Young Chiropractic Clinic in 1983, embarking on a lifelong mission to heal and uplift those around him. His professional excellence was recognized through numerous accolades, including the esteemed Diplomate to the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, a Certificate of Merit by the Acupuncture Society of America, and a Diplomate of Chiropractic Internist (DABCI).

Ron's spirit was not confined to his clinic alone. A black belt by 1979, he channeled his martial arts passion into founding the American Fighting Arts Academy. His dedication to the art was unparalleled, culminating in the honor of 8th Degree Black Belt and the revered title of Grand Master by the World Taekwondo Hanmookwan Federation.

His love for classic cars was another facet of his multifaceted life. As president of the Salina Mustang &amp; Ford Powered Club, Ron breathed new life into 1964-66 Ford Mustangs, sharing his restoration magic with fellow enthusiasts. His commitment to service shone brightly through his work with the Salina Coalition for the Prevention of Child Abuse and as a board member of Child Abuse Prevention Services, safeguarding the innocence of childhood.

Ron's influence extended into the realms of leadership and patriotism, earning him the Presidential Commission and the National Leadership Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee, a testament to his visionary leadership and civic engagement.

Above all, Ron was a family man at heart. His love story with Linda, his one life's love, began on February 1, 1974. Together, they nurtured a family of three daughters: Faith, Amber, and April, and a grandson, Jordan, who were the center of Ron's universe.

Ron leaves behind a legacy carried on by his daughters, Faith, Amber, and April; his grandson, Jordan; his ex-wife, Linda; and his sister, Debra Kirby. To numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces, he was much more than an uncle—he was a mentor, a guide, and a source of unwavering support.

As we prepare to bid farewell to Grand Master and Doctor Ron Young, we invite you to join us in celebrating his remarkable life&nbsp;Saturday, March 23rd 11:00am at the Higher Praise Church, 1220 Greeley Ave, Salina, KS. Karen passed away on March 6, 2024, in Salina, Kansas. She was born on February 14, 1941, in Ottawa County, Kansas to Joseph Emerie and Irene (Harris) Williams. Having grown up in the Minneapolis and Longford, Kansas communities she graduated from Longford Rural High School. Karen attended the University of Kansas, earning her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and then went on to earn a Master of Science in Home Economics-Family Studies from New Mexico State University.

In her professional life she was employed by St. Joseph Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, Wichita, KS, Southern Arizona Mental Health Center, Tucson, AZ, Imperial County Health Center, El Centro, CA, Imperial Valley Center for Exceptional Children, El Centro, CA, Iselin Associates Inc., Tempe, AZ, and Mesa Public Schools, Mesa, AZ, from where she retired.

Karen was a pilot and a member of both the Ninety-Nines and Civil Air Patrol. She enjoyed memberships in Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), Civil War Roundtable, and Westerners International.

Karen was a lifelong fan of University of Kansas basketball, she enjoyed quilting, reading, researching genealogy, and loved spending time with family and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; sisters, Dorothy Williams, Lenna Moeder (Willard), and Marva Adee (Evan). Milton L. Lott, 89, Minneapolis, died Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. Milt was born October 10, 1934, on the family homestead near Bennington to Henry and Evelyn (McClellan) Lott.

Milt was a 1952 graduate of Minneapolis High School and he then served in the United States Army. He and Shirley J. Hofflinger were united in marriage on November 27, 1954. Milt was a postal carrier for over 25 years, but farming and being on a combine was his passion. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus #6778. Milt was also a member of the Minneapolis Jaycees. He served on the Minneapolis School Board, the Minneapolis Housing Authority, and he served as Chief of the Minneapolis Fire Department. Milt was also the voice of Minneapolis Lions Football for many years.&nbsp;

Milt loved going to all of his kids and grandkids’ sporting events and he never passed up an opportunity to play a game of pitch. He loved to sing songs to his grand and great-grandchildren even though he couldn’t carry a tune. If you knew Milt, you know he was always ready with a joke. The most important thing in his life was his family and his motto was, “Always try to make someone smile every day.”&nbsp; He was able to usually do that tenfold.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Willis and his wife, Sara Lott Burwell and Don Lott; brothers-in-law, Ben Bronson, Lynn Hendrixson, and John Johnson, Carl Hofflinger and his wife Peggy; and sisters-in-law, LaVada Istas and her husband, Buck, and Loma Demanett and her husband, Alfred

Tresa and Darrel Dean Steinbrock were united in marriage on May 15, 1949, in Minneapolis. She worked hand in hand with Darrel raising pigs. She was known for the best cheeseburgers and malts that she would deliver to the harvest fields. Tresa worked as a CNA/CMA for many years. She was a very caring and compassionate person, and she loved caring for the elderly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrel; son, Louie Dean; and siblings, Lennis, Bernie, Delma, Chub, Dorothy, Darrell, and their spouses.

Dixie Lee Erickson Pakaki made heaven her final destination on March 13, 2024. &nbsp;She was 92 years old, and resided at the Sunset Home in Concordia, Kansas. &nbsp;Dixie Woodring was born in Salina, Kansas, the youngest of three sisters. Her parents were Jewell and Fred Woodring. &nbsp;In 1946, Dixie moved to Concordia and married her high school sweetheart, Loren Joe Erickson. &nbsp;Dixie and Joe worked together in a variety of business ventures before Dixie focused on being a full-time Mom and raising their four children, Larry, Dana, David and Eric.

Dixie was active in church and youth activities, PTA, station wagon transporter, and was known as a cool Mom with the neighborhood kids—she was always ready and willing to join the kids in snow sledding, swimming, or playing games. &nbsp;Everyone in the neighborhood knew that when they heard Dixie’s ear-splitting whistle, it was time for her kids to return home. &nbsp;Dixie often exhibited her “Woodring Sisters’ laugh”—and will be forever loved for her sense of humor. &nbsp;Dixie and Joe loved to travel throughout the U.S. and abroad. &nbsp;In 1981, Dixie made Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii her home. &nbsp;She enjoyed living on her “island heaven on earth”. &nbsp;In 1984, Dixie married Ernest Pakaki. &nbsp;After Ernest died, Dixie moved to Kerrville, Texas to live near her two sisters and their husbands. &nbsp;Later, Dixie moved to Salina, then to Concordia, residing at the Sunset Home.

Always on the go, Dixie lived a full and adventurous life—whether it was riding a camel in Israel, or visiting friends in the former Yugoslavia. &nbsp;She loved life and was loved, and will be fondly remember by those whose lives she touched through her journey in life.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents;&nbsp;her husband’s Joe Erickson and Ernest Pakaki; &nbsp;her sisters Betty (Charles) Scheibler and Ailene (Bob) Hagler. &nbsp;She leaves a heritage of three generations by her four children: &nbsp;Larry (Susan) Erickson of Phoenix, Arizona;&nbsp;Dana (Mark) Cunningham, Topeka, Kansas; &nbsp;David Erickson of Concordia; &nbsp;and Eric Erickson of Euless, Texas. &nbsp;David’s family—grandkids Evan, Jordan (Esther) with great-grandkids Nora, Mina, and Marcus; and grandkids Tiffany, Braden, Calen, and Aaron—all in Kansas. &nbsp;Eric’s family—grandkids Taylor (James), with great grandkids Camden and Reese; and grandkid Connor—in Texas.

Vernon E. Olson December 10, 1928 ~&nbsp;March 15, 2024

Vernon E. Olson, 95, of Marquette, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 15th, 2024 in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Vernon was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on December 10, 1928, to Anna Marie Otelia (Swanson) and Eddie Martin Olson with his older brother, Kenneth, welcoming him home.&nbsp;He graduated from Venango School in 1942 and Marquette High School in 1946. Vernon remained on the family farm until 1963, with the exception of his military service. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from February 1951 through February 1953 and was released as a Private 1st Class.

After leaving the farm, he spent some time in Kansas City and returned to Salina. He worked at Wyatt Manufacturing until he retired in 1991.

On September 23, 1973, Vernon was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Moore.

Olson, 95, of Marquette, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 15th, 2024 in Lindsborg, Kansas.Vernon was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on December 10, 1928, to Anna Marie Otelia (Swanson) and Eddie Martin Olson with his older brother, Kenneth, welcoming him home.&nbsp;He graduated from Venango School in 1942 and Marquette High School in 1946. Vernon remained on the family farm until 1963, with the exception of his military service. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from February 1951 through February 1953 and was released as a Private 1st Class.After leaving the farm, he spent some time in Kansas City and returned to Salina. Devine S. Montoya, 92 of Concordia, KS passed away on March 11,&nbsp;2024&nbsp;at the Regent Retirement Home in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;Devine was born in Hooker, OK on January 14,&nbsp;1932&nbsp;to Andy Montoya and&nbsp;Lucenda&nbsp;Sanchez. &nbsp;

Devine graduated high school in 1951 from Hooker High School. &nbsp;He went on to attend Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1955 with a degree in Education. &nbsp;Devine’s first teaching job was in Quenemo, KS where he&nbsp;lead&nbsp;the boys basketball team to a state championship in 1960. &nbsp;He came to Concordia, KS in 1963 where he was employed at U.S.D. 333 until his retirement in 1992. &nbsp;During his tenure with the school&nbsp;district&nbsp;he wore many hats including Spanish Teacher, Driver’s Education Instructor, Librarian, Keyboard Teacher, Tennis Coach and Guidance Counselor to name just a few of his many roles. &nbsp;

Devine enjoyed his retirement traveling the world with his wife and family. &nbsp;He loved spending his winters in Arizona golfing and playing tennis. &nbsp;He never passed up an opportunity for a happy hour or a night on the town. &nbsp;Devine was an active member of the Concordia Lion’s Club, Masonic&nbsp;Lodge&nbsp;and Isis Shrine. &nbsp;He was&nbsp;also&nbsp;a member of the former Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Concordia. &nbsp;

He is survived by&nbsp;his sister,&nbsp;2 sons, 2&nbsp;step-sons&nbsp;and one step-daughter;&nbsp;5 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brothers; wife, Barbara, great-granddaughter, and step-grandson. &nbsp;

It was Devine’s wish to be cremated. &nbsp;A memorial service will be held at&nbsp;Nutter’s&nbsp;Mortuary on Friday, April 5th&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m. with ……officiating. &nbsp;Burial of the remains will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS. &nbsp;The family suggests that memorials&nbsp;go to the Concordia Lion’s Club in care&nbsp;Nutter’s&nbsp;Mortuary. &nbsp;

Michael LaOrange August 6, 1966 ~ March 11, 2024

Michael was born on August 6, 1966 to Patrick Harrington LaOrange Jr. and Lucille Marie (Jerby) LaOrange at St. Johns Hospital in Salina, Ks. Mike as he like to be called left and made his heavenly journey on March 10, 2024.&nbsp; Mike was a member of the First Christian Church of Salina, Ks. After high school graduation Mike attended 2 years at Salina area vocational technical school, graduating as an auto mechanic. Mike was on a bowling team along with his dad and brother Tracy. Mike had a very loving heart and tried to be kind and gentle to everyone. He spent all of his life in Salina, Ks except for eighteen years he travels many a road as an over the road truck driver. On one of his trip’s homes, he was driving a cab over truck, and fixed a plywood platform and took his mother’s dog Peaches (small dog) along with his trip, once he returned home the dog said that’s enough, leave me with mom.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Made it to all 48 states and New York Harbor he didn’t like (narrow streets). He done all this accident free and received one million mile award.&nbsp; He came home and worked for Salina Iron and Metal and when that business split he switched to Home Town Disposal.&nbsp; There he became an operational assistant, when necessary left what he was doing jumped in a truck and covered the necessary areas.&nbsp;

Mike loved guns and became a member of the Quivera Inc. Gun Club where he became an instructor.&nbsp; Taught many the correct ways to handle a gun and the proper handling.&nbsp; Mike started attending where he would go and compete in tournaments.&nbsp;

Later he joined the Mason Salina Lodge #60 and was working his way up the ladder.&nbsp; His mother had the pleasure of enjoying visiting with some of the members that would meet at the VFW to eat a meal and joking with them as they ate.

While Mike was over the road driver would break to attend Daytona International Speedway with friends from the Chicago area.&nbsp; Tracy and Mike were great fans of NASCAR and during the races they would call each other up and have a friendly war.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mike loved to go hunting with his dad and brother and Tracy’s dog Taz, was happy as he got to go also, he could run and flush the pheasant’s out and if the men were lucky down would come the birds.

Mike leaves behind his father Pat LaOrange and his companion Doris Cole. His mother Lucille Sanderson and Brother Tracy and wife Brenda.&nbsp; Niece’s Sara Wentworth and great niece Brooklyn Redd and great nephew Damien Redd. Stepbrothers David (Bonnie) Sanderson, James Sanderson, Nathan Sanderson, Paul Cole, Keith (Pam) Cole, Frank (Sandy) Cole, James (Julie) Cole, Stepsister Marilyn (Cory) Connelly. His Aunt Ginny Jerby, many cousins and second cousins. Former wife Sharon LaOrange her daughter’s Crystal Carson and Melissa Baxter.

Proceeded in death was a very special uncle George Alan (Doc) Jerby, Stepfather William Sanderson, Aunt Juanita Jerby, Grandparents Patrick and Evelyn LaOrange, George, and Evea Jerby.

Funeral services will be held on March ­­­19, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, 2508 Belmont Boulevard in Salina, Ks. Mike will be buried in Gypsum Hill Cemetery beside his Mason brothers. Visitation will be between 1 PM until service time.

There will be a lunch for families and friends at noon at the church in the fellowship hall.&nbsp; After the burial you may return for light refreshments and additional visiting.

The family is asking that donations instead of flowers, please send your heart’s desire amount to the Salina Lodge #60, as Mike had a tender heart and would be his wish to help others.&nbsp;

You may dress casual Mike felt most at ease in casual wear.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Vernon A. Chavey January 26, 1938 ~ March 12, 2024

Vernon A. Chavey, age 86, entered into rest on March 12, 2024, at the Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, Kansas.He was born on January 26, 1938, in rural St. Joseph, Kansas to Bernard and Helen (Tesmer) Chavey.

Vernon attended grade school in the Como School District.

Vernon grew up on the family farm helping with all the family farm daily chores.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also worked at the Cactus Club in the Kitchen.

He was a member of the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, and a past member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Vernon was a devout Catholic all his life.&nbsp;

Vernon enjoyed singing at the St. Joseph Christmas in the country celebration each year.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also loved planting and taking care of his garden and offering his fruits of labor to the community.&nbsp;&nbsp;Vernon also loved going to the local Rodeo’s and especially listening to country music.&nbsp;&nbsp;One of his cherished past times was visiting with family and friends.

Vernon is survived by his brother, Gerald Chavey, three nieces, April Chavey Walker (Jeff Eakins), Coleen Jackson, Lana Cozad (Bob), nephews, Jim (Jackie), John (Cindy) and Rick Chavey, several great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Helen, a brother, Louis Chavey (Joy), a sister-in-law, Ima Jean Chavey.

A parish vigil/rosary service will be prayed on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Chaput Mortuary in Clyde starting at 5:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, Kansas with Fr. Steven Heina officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;A funeral luncheon will be served after the graveside back at the Church Fellowship Hall.

Etta Arlene (Duff) Holloway April 4, 1935 ~ March 13, 2024

Etta Arlene (Duff) Holloway was the first child born to Clayborn and Stella Mae (Crochett) Duff on April 4, 1935 in Salina, Kansas. Clay and Stella Mae then moved to Hoxie, Kansas, to be near relatives where Arlene started attending elementary school. During her 5th grade school year, her family moved to Codell, Kansas, located just south of Woodston, Kansas, Arlene loved school and was known as the "teacher's helper" and could recall names of the many students she tutored there. During her senior year of High school, the family made a final move to Alton, Kansas. While attending Alton High School she met Bob Holloway who grew up on a farm west of Alton. After graduating from high school, Bob and Arlene were married on January 30, 1955 and made their home in a small rustic house along the Solomon River just west of Alton. Bob and Arlene moved to Paradise, Kansas, for a short time before settling on a farm near Woodston, Kansas, where they started their family.

Their 4 boys, Kevin, Dean, Terry, and Danny, all grew up on the farm and have fond memories of living, working, and harvesting together. She enjoyed the farm, her garden, and the chickens that kept her boys busy feeding, cleaning, and gathering the eggs. Hard work was part of her nature and she lived and taught us hard work on the farm. Arlene loved and cared for her family, but also took time to care for others in need. She would cook meals and serve others while also teaching her cooking skills to kids in 4-H, who claimed many blue ribbons at the Rooks County Free Fair. Her smile was hard to forget, especially when she was with her boys, grandkids, and great grandkids. She always wanted to spend as much time with family as she could and would stay up VERY late with them playing games and telling stories. After her boys were grown, Bob and Arlene moved to Lindsborg, Kansas, for a short time before moving to Oakley, Kansas, just south of her childhood home near Hoxie. They made one more final move to Lindsborg to be with friends and closer to family. In Lindsborg, Arlene continued her visits to those in need of food, help, or just a friend. She also looked forward to family gatherings and cherished holidays when the family was all together.

Arlene will be remembered for her Christian faith in God and her love for Jesus. She shared her love for the Bible by teaching children in Sunday School and would share what Christ had done in her life with anyone who was interested. Her deep faith shown as she lived, worked, and cared for others. Her daily Bible readings would often be recited in conversations throughout the day. The Bible was her guidebook for life. Even if she forgot a favorite recipe, she always could remember her favorite scriptures and would share them with others.

Arlene is survived by her husband Bob of 69 years, her younger brother Cloyd Duff of Wichita Kansas; her sons: Kevin (Vicki) Holloway of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Terry (Kim) Holloway of Ness City, Kansas, and Dan (Diana) Holloway of Topeka, Kansas. Her grandchildren: Beth (Timothy) Johnson, Nolan (Samantha) Holloway, Kale (Nikki) Holloway, Hope (Chad) Bauman, Justin (Emily) Holloway, Melissa Holloway, Abby Holloway, Anna Holloway, Ally (Grayson) Trueblood, Adriel Holloway, Amy Holloway, Caleb Holloway, and her great grandchildren: Aven, Eloise, Ean, Adler, Cora, Abba, Kaley, Cambree, Hattie, IlsaBelle, and Judge.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents Clay and Stella Mae Duff, son Dean Holloway, and younger brother Jay Duff.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Sunday, March 17 at Crick-Christian Funeral Home 103 N. Washington St. Lindsborg KS

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, March 18 at Lindsborg Evangelical Covenant Church, 102 S. Washington St., Lindsborg.

Burial will be 3:00 pm at Woodston Cemetery, Woodston KS.

Clay and Stella Mae then moved to Hoxie, Kansas, to be near relatives where Arlene started attending elementary school. During her 5th grade school year, her family moved to Codell, Kansas, located just south of Woodston, Kansas, Arlene loved school and was known as the "teacher's helper" and could recall names of the many students she tutored there. During her senior year of High school, the family made a final move to Alton, Kansas. While attending Alton High School she met Bob Holloway who grew up on a farm west of Alton. After graduating from high school, Bob and Arlene were married on January 30, 1955 and made their home in a small rustic house along the Solomon River just west of Alton. Bob and Arlene moved to Paradise, Kansas, for a short time before settling on a farm near Woodston, Kansas, where they started their family.Their 4 boys, Kevin, Dean, Terry, and Danny, all grew up on the farm and have fond memories of living, working, and harvesting together. She enjoyed the farm, her garden, and the chickens that kept her boys busy feeding, cleaning, and gathering the eggs. Hard work was part of her nature and she lived and taught us hard work on the farm. Arlene loved and cared for her family, but also took time to care for others in need. Anna M. (Keim) Minshall January 17, 1929 ~ March 11, 2024

Anna M. "Ann" (Keim) Minshall, 95, went home to the Lord on Monday, March 11. She was born on January 17, 1929, in Quincy, Illinois, the fifth child of Boyd and Mabel Keim. She married Rev. Robert G. Minshall on May 30, 1950, and was the mother of two children.

She was a wonderful pastor's wife during his 52 years in the ministry at churches in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and Missouri. She led children's worship, women's fellowship groups, and taught Sunday School classes. She loved singing in the church choir and had a beautiful voice. As a mother, she was room mother for one child or the other almost every year. She also served as president of their PTA at the junior high. She never missed a play or a sporting event of her children. When both children were in college, Ann started working at the National Bank of America in Salina. She continued her banking career in Texas and Missouri. She was an over 50 year member of the PEO Sisterhood. She loved playing golf and won several tournaments with her niece. Bridge was also a favorite of hers as well. She was an amazing seamstress.

Ann loved her husband of 68 years, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but loved her Lord the most and served him well over her many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband of 68 years, and bonus grandson, Steven Jones. She is survived by daughter, Pam Jones (Bob) and son Bob Minshall (Sharon), 6 grand children, 3 bonus grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Karyn passed away at home March 10, 2024 at the age of 83. She was the last child born to Elmer L. and Hazel F. (Cratty) Krinhop. Karyn grew up on the family farm northeast of Chapman. She attended Chapman Grade School and graduated from D.C.C.H.S. in 1958. She was an honor student and received a Superior Rating for her performance at the Dickinson County Grade School Music Festival. She played the organ for the Scherer Memorial Lutheran Church for several years. After graduating, she would return every weekend to play for the church service. Her career began in the insurance field for Farm Bureau Insurance in Manhattan and continued after moving to Lawrence, Kansas. She married Robert B. Perry on December 24, 1961 (her parent's 35th wedding anniversary). They had two children, David and Susan. They later divorced. In 1976, she moved to Salina, Kansas and married Madison (Mac) Ashburn on March 19, 1976. He passed away in 2006. In 1981, Karyn went back to school and graduated in 1983 from Kansas Technical Institute with an Associate Degree in General Engineering Technology.

When she was younger she was an awesome bowler, winning many trophies and awards. She also spent her free time roller skating and square dancing with Mac. She enjoyed watching football, basketball, and Nascar. Her favorite teams included the University of Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs. Later in life, she became an avid reader. Karyn was always ready to volunteer for a good cause and spent endless hours helping others.

She is survived by her son, David (Cheryl) Perry, The Woodlands, Texas and her daughter, Susan Milholland, Hoisington, Kansas; Grandchildren, Jacquelyne, Kyle, Ryan, Kayn and Lane; 10 nephews and one niece; many great nephews and nieces; and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Hazel, husband Mac, brothers Kenneth, Harvey, DeWain and sister Patricia, sister-in- laws Gladys, Joan, Caroline, brother-in-law Duane (Dewey), son-in-law Jeff, nephews Neil and Greg.

The funeral will be held at Ryan Mortuary (137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas 67401) Tuesday, March 19th at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Indian Hill Cemetery, Chapman, Kansas. Lanny Eugene Morse January 20, 1943 ~ March 11, 2024

Lanny Eugene Morse (81) passed away March 11, 2024 at Lincoln County Hospital, Lincoln, Kansas. He was born January 20, 1943 in Minneapolis, Kansas to Garfield Raymond and Elva Rachel (Moore) Morse.

After his father passed away, Lanny’s family moved to Oregon. While in Oregon, Lanny quit school at the age of 15 to work on a chicken farm. After a short time, he moved back to Minneapolis, Kansas to work on a farm near Glasco. He then worked on the R.W. Robbins ranch in Belvidere, Kansas, as a cowboy, where he earned the nickname of “Hoss”. Lanny moved to Barnard, Kansas and was a truck driver for Barnard Manufacturing Company, delivering farm equipment and unloading the equipment by hand. It’s here where he met Arletta Sperry, who also worked for Barnard Manufacturing Company. They were united in marriage on December 16, 1967 at the Barnard Baptist Church, Barnard, Kansas. The couple welcomed their son, Raymond, while living in Barnard. The family moved to Tipton where Lanny worked for Hake Manufacturing. Their daughter, Patricia, was born while they lived in Tipton. Lanny obtained his GED in 1972. Throughout the years, Lanny worked as a meat cutter at Lincoln Grocery store in Lincoln, ran the Sylvan Café in Sylvan Grove, and then began his 26-year career with Farmway Co-op, first at the elevator, then transferring to the gas station. Lanny retired from Farmway Coop in March of 2007. Later in the year, he began driving for Cameron Compressions in Salina, delivering natural gas turbines. He traveled the United States, making friends and memories along the way. In 2021, he quit driving for Camerons, and was able to spend time tinkering in his garage. Lanny enjoyed listening to his multitude of 8-track tapes, driving his one-owner restored Corvair, delivering Meals on Wheels, playing cards at the Senior Center, fishing, volunteering, and helping others. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and especially spoiling the grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever he had the chance.

Lanny was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Garfield “Gary” Dale Morse. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Arletta, of the home; Children: Raymond Morse of Concordia and Patricia (Matthew) Winters of Lincoln; Grandchildren: Dakotah (Katelyn) Eidet of Minneapolis, Jacob (Madison) Winters of Liberal, Rebecca Morse of Haysville, Nicole Morse of Haysville, Alexander (Jessica) Winters of Ellsworth, Macy Winters of Hays, Marissa Winters of Lincoln and Ethan Morse of Concordia. Great-grandchildren; Daniel Haggerty, Raelynn Rector, Colter Rector, K’den Lunnin, Kotah Eidet, Gypsy Eidet, Adelynn Winters &amp; Matthew Winters; as well as numerous family members and friends.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2024 at Hall Chapel in Lincoln. Family will be present 5-7 p.m.

Memorial service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Salina Church of Christ, 1646 N. 9th St. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Rene R. Pennington November 18, 1938 ~ March 11, 2024

Rene R. Pennington, 85, passed away March 11, 2024 in Ellsworth. He was born November 18, 1938 to Orville E. and Josephine (Salazar) Pennington in Liberal, KS. He married Edith Schwerdtfeger in Liberal on June 16, 1962. For many years, he owned Mobile Home Specialist in Garden City. In his later years, he and Edith moved to Ellsworth where he worked at the Pines Apartments in Ellsworth, and for five years, he and Edith were camp hosts at Venango campground at Kanopolis Lake. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Ellsworth, and he served his country in the US Navy. Rene was also an artist. His artwork could be seen in various places around Ellsworth.

Rene is survived by his wife, Edith Pennington of Ellsworth; daughter, Joanna Lago (Tony) of Ellsworth; grandsons, Ryan Johnston of Ellsworth and Kevin Johnston (Susannah) of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Poirier and Madalynn Johnston; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lance, Gary, and Carlos Pennington; and grandmother, Byrdie Franklin.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2024 at Parsons Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Parsons Funeral Home with burial following in the Ellsworth Cemetery.

He was born November 18, 1938 to Orville E. and Josephine (Salazar) Pennington in Liberal, KS. He married Edith Schwerdtfeger in Liberal on June 16, 1962. For many years, he owned Mobile Home Specialist in Garden City. In his later years, he and Edith moved to Ellsworth where he worked at the Pines Apartments in Ellsworth, and for five years, he and Edith were camp hosts at Venango campground at Kanopolis Lake. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Ellsworth, and he served his country in the US Navy. Rene was also an artist. His artwork could be seen in various places around Ellsworth.Rene is survived by his wife, Edith Pennington of Ellsworth; daughter, Joanna Lago (Tony) of Ellsworth; grandsons, Ryan Johnston of Ellsworth and Kevin Johnston (Susannah) of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Poirier and Madalynn Johnston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
