Dung Le Nguyen beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, departed this world on August 26, 2023. Dung was born in Hue, Vietnam on February 10, 1939 to Tu Nguyen and Ut Truong. She was a talented seamstress and owner of a shop in Saigon, Vietnam. She and her family made a harrowing escape from Vietnam in 1976. After reaching the US, she and her family lived in New York City for a time before settling in Salina, KS permanently. She worked at Tony’s Pizza until her retirement in 1998.

Her life always centered around her faith and family. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and devoted much of her time to prayer. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and family gatherings.

Dung is preceded in death by her mother Ut Truong, father Tu Nguyen, brother Minh Nguyen, husband Niem Nguyen, son Dung Nguyen, .

Survivors include her brother Cong Nguyen (Huong Phan) of Atlanta, GA, Son Duong (wife of Minh Nguyen) of Salina, KS, son Joseph Nguyen (Julie) of Andover, KS and John Nguyen (Ashley) of Lenexa, KS and grandchildren Lucas, Alex and Scarlett.

Viewing and Visitation is Friday, September 1, 2023 from 10:00am - 1:00pm at Roselawn Memorial Chapel at 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, KS. Family and friends are welcome to enjoy luncheon together in the Friendship Room after the viewing and visitation. Funeral service will be Friday, September 1, 2023 at 3:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 230 E Cloud St, Salina, KS. Interment to follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

John G. Mortimer&nbsp;passed away Friday, August 25, 2023, at Salina Regional Hospital. He was 90 years of age.

John was born to Carl G. and Lema W. (Welch) Mortimer.

He graduated from Gypsum Highschool with the class of 1951.&nbsp; He then spent 5 years as an equipment operator for Salina Sand Co. In the fall of 1956, John enrolled at his father’s alma mater, Kansas Wesleyan University. In 1960, he was hired to work at a local finance company. He served the company in Salina, KS before relocating to Wichita, KS and later Omaha, NE.

In 1961, while still working in Salina, John was set up on a blind date with Mary Jane Mason, of Kipp. They were later married, in October 1963 in Solomon, KS. Together they went back to Omaha, NE and shortly after made their way back to Salina, KS.

John retired from Security Savings in 1999, at the age of 66.After retirement, John, Mary Jane, her sister Lois and husband, Don, took a 10-day trip to Alaska. John often reminisced on his 3 summers spent in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Here, him and Mary Jane rented a beach house and enjoyed their time together with their family.

John was frequently found gloating about his family. He was a proud father and (great)grandfather. John is preceded in death by sisters Barbara (Glen) Meyer, Delores and Sharon Mortimer. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 incredible years, Mary Jane (Mason) Mortimer of Solomon; sister Karen (Mike) Moore of Newbern, NC; son Kevin (Sheila) Mortimer of Solomon; daughter Kara (Chris) Brady of Salina; granddaughters Brianna (Derek) Nielsen of Emporia; Emma and Caroline Brady of Salina and grandson Garrett (Sydney) Mortimer; as well as great grandsons Elliot, Graham, and Callen Nielsen of Emporia. John was also extremely excited to welcome another great grandson this winter.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm August 31, 2023 at Ryan Mortuary.

Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Weber as celebrant. &nbsp;

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Solomon.

Donald Ralph Loader, residing in Salina, KS died Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Presbyterian Manor from Lewy Body Dementia.

Don was born August 2, 1940, in Salina, KS to Ralph and Mary Loader. He was always interested in Art &amp; Design. He grew up in the retail world with his first job working in Loader’s Market, his parents’ grocery store. &nbsp;

Don married Jean Nieman on August 30, 1969, in Salina. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Salina, KS and the Kansas City Art Institute, in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; Don was an Interior Designer and worked at Dwight Putnam Interiors, Stiefel’s Department Store, then opened Don Loader Interiors with his wife, Jean.&nbsp; He provided decorating services to North Central Kansas for more than 20 years.&nbsp; Don loved gardening, time in his swimming pool, martinis, entertaining, and convertibles. Don was a very loving person; he cherished his many friendships and time spent with his family. &nbsp;

Don is survived by his wife, Jean Loader, sons, Jim Loader (Michael Chambers), Jon Loader, and grandson, Stephen Loader.&nbsp; Additional survivors include his sister, Jane Belt (Jerry), nieces and nephews, Kathy Belt, Dan Belt (Pat) and family, Tom Belt (Angie) and family, and special cousin, Betty Yockers.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Loader, and infant son, Stephen Donald Loader.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 30th, at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud Street. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Donald Ralph Loader

Eldon L. Demuth, 91, passed away on Aug. 18, 2023.&nbsp; Born Eldon Leon Demuth on Nov. 2, 1931, in rural Harper County, Okla., to May and Claude Demuth, he was the third child and eldest boy of six children. Eldon and his siblings grew up on a farm north of Rosston, where they rode to school in a homemade bus.

After graduating from Rosston High School in 1949, Eldon attended college for a year at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in March 1951. After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and auto mechanics training at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo., Eldon was stationed at an air base in Niigata, Japan, until March 1954.

After returning to the U.S., Eldon finished his military duty at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah. Ga. He was honorably discharged in March 1955.

Eldon moved to Wichita, Kansas and was hired at Beech Aircraft where he worked in the aircraft spare parts warehouse before being promoted to an office job taking parts orders from distributors. He worked for the company for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1994.

On April 27, 1957, Eldon married Rozella Lindley of Wichita. The couple had one son, Gary, in 1958. They divorced in 1983 and Rozella died in 1986. Eldon married Patty Post of Salina on Sept. 3, 1983, adding a stepson, Sam, and stepdaughter, Denise, to his family.

After retirement, Eldon and Patty moved to Salina, where Eldon worked part-time in the maintenance department of Sunflower Bank and as a door greeter at Conklin Cars.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Wilma, Thelma and Shirley, and wife Patty. He is survived by brothers Merlin (June) Demuth of Bartlesville, Okla., and David (Darlene) Demuth of Bixby, Okla., sons Gary (Marcia) Demuth and Sam (DeeDee) Eslick of Salina, and daughter Denise (Scott) Russell of Chapman. He has eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Eldon L. Demuth

Wilma was born on April 9, 1930 to William P. Miller and Katherine M. (Haag) Miller as the second to the youngest of 13 children on a farm in Lyon County, Kansas. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after saying her nightly prayers on August 14, 2023. Wilma is so beloved, as many were drawn to her smile, sincerity and fast pace.

Wilma grew up gardening and raising chickens to help feed her family during the Great Depression and World War II. She disliked chickens to this day, but loved her pony, Diamond. When going to school, Wilma rode on her big brother's shoulders and carried hot boiled eggs in her hands to keep them warm during the snowy winter.

After being crowned “May Queen,” Wilma married her high school sweetheart, Charles Richard (Dick) Gerleman, in Olpe, Kansas on June 24, 1950. Together, they shared 63 beautiful years of love, marriage, dancing and happiness. Wilma was at his side when he went to be with our Lord on April 25, 2013.

In the early 1950s, Wilma and Dick moved to Belleville, Kansas, where Dick worked with Metropolitan Life Insurance and Wilma was a stay-at-home mother who raised their four children, Bruce W. and Dr. Brent F. Gerleman (Angie) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Brenda M. Gerleman and Barbara K. Autry of Wichita. In 1961, Dick was promoted to agency manager and the family moved to Salina, where Wilma enjoyed the many amenities of big city life; dancing, fashion, friends and family filled Wilma’s days.

Her Catholic faith was always paramount in her life. Wilma became very involved with Saint Mary’s Church and Elementary School and Sacred Heart High School. She and Dick made regular trips to Olpe to help their parents. As her children grew older, Wilma began a career at Salina Sears in the women’s fashion department. Her class and gift for detail and design on a budget quickly caught the eye of customers and colleagues. Over the next 30 years, she enjoyed nurturing and guiding women and girls; she was respected and remembered for years after she retired.

Wilma was an accomplished artist across many mediums. She was best known for the various stages of her beautiful oil paintings, ranging from wildlife, flowers, sceneries, still-life, abstract and more. She took great pride in her home, cultivating cleanliness and green thumbs across her family. She was a deeply committed matriarch, who loved being serenaded by her children and grandchildren and never napped.

Wilma and Dick cherished Catholic education and all four of their children were educated in Catholic schools. Following high school, all four children attended Wichita State University, where Bruce played football, Brenda and Barbie were Shockettes and Brent graduated from WSU/KU medical school with honors. Her pride in their successes and in the success of the Knights and Shockers was never-ending, as they traveled all over the country to support the schools and their children. At WSU, she was lovingly referred to as “Team Mom.” Her beauty and sweet words of encouragement inspired many Shockers to greatness and she was honored with a stone on the WSU Plaza of Heroines.

Throughout their marriage, Wilma and Dick traveled our country and the world. They saved up to take their children on frequent vacations. Later in life, Wilma enjoyed her fall trips to New England, visits to Seattle to see her sisters Geneva and Kathryn, time in the deserts of Arizona with Jim and Joyce Hill, adventures in Carmel with the Gerlemans, and many trips to Florida where the Fontainebleau was her favorite dancing place. Their highlights together included Hawaii, Alaska and over a dozen countries across Europe. She prayed in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and St. Francis’s Basilica in Assisi with her four children, visited Dick’s forefathers in the namesake of her hometown, Olpe, Germany, and explored her ancestors’ country in Alsace Lorraine.

Wilma never forgot her hometown of Olpe, Kansas. With Dick, she gave generous gifts to establish the original endowment for St. Joseph’s Catholic School and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Wilma will be buried in that cemetery on Friday August 25th at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to those endowments.

Wilma is survived by her four children, six grandchildren who knew her as “Nanie” (Grant, Gretchen, Anna, Jeb, McKenzie and Max) and three great grandchildren (Graham, Drake and Meyer). Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers (Bert, Christian, Leonard, Francis and Bill), sisters (Clara, Louise, Bernadine, Helen, Eileen, Geneva and Kathryn) and granddaughter Margo.

As her children grew older, Wilma began a career at Salina Sears in the women’s fashion department. Her class and gift for detail and design on a budget quickly caught the eye of customers and colleagues. Over the next 30 years, she enjoyed nurturing and guiding women and girls; she was respected and remembered for years after she retired.Wilma was an accomplished artist across many mediums. She was best known for the various stages of her beautiful oil paintings, ranging from wildlife, flowers, sceneries, still-life, abstract and more. She took great pride in her home, cultivating cleanliness and green thumbs across her family. She was a deeply committed matriarch, who loved being serenaded by her children and grandchildren and never napped.Wilma and Dick cherished Catholic education and all four of their children were educated in Catholic schools. Following high school, all four children attended Wichita State University, where Bruce played football, Brenda and Barbie were Shockettes and Brent graduated from WSU/KU medical school with honors. Her pride in their successes and in the success of the Knights and Shockers was never-ending, as they traveled all over the country to support the schools and their children. At WSU, she was lovingly referred to as “Team Mom.” Her beauty and sweet words of encouragement inspired many Shockers to greatness and she was honored with a stone on the WSU Plaza of Heroines.Throughout their marriage, Wilma and Dick traveled our country and the world. They saved up to take their children on frequent vacations. Later in life, Wilma enjoyed her fall trips to New England, visits to Seattle to see her sisters Geneva and Kathryn, time in the deserts of Arizona with Jim and Joyce Hill, adventures in Carmel with the Gerlemans, and many trips to Florida where the Fontainebleau was her favorite dancing place. Their highlights together included Hawaii, Alaska and over a dozen countries across Europe. She prayed in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and St. Francis’s Basilica in Assisi with her four children, visited Dick’s forefathers in the namesake of her hometown, Olpe, Germany, and explored her ancestors’ country in Alsace Lorraine.Wilma never forgot her hometown of Olpe, Kansas. With Dick, she gave generous gifts to establish the original endowment for St. Joseph’s Catholic School and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Wilma will be buried in that cemetery on Friday August 25th at 4:00. Marjorie C. Andrews, 93, of Salina, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023.&nbsp; She was born May 17, 1930, in Beaver, to Joseph and Catharine Zorn.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and worked for Tony’s Pizza. &nbsp;

Marjorie C. (Zorn) Andrews

Peggy Joyce Scott of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on August 24, 2023, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was 89 years old.

Born on December 3, 1933, in Milledgeville, Georgia, Peggy was the daughter of Samuel Arthur Evans and Clara Belle (Worsham) Evans. She grew up in Milledgeville and graduated from Peabody High School.

Peggy dedicated 23 years of her life to serving others as a receptionist/clerk at McPherson Floral. Her friendly nature and attention to detail touched the lives of countless customers who sought joy through beautiful flowers. She truly valued the importance of bringing smiles to people's faces during both moments of celebration and times of sorrow.

She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Peggy's greatest role was that of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She married the love of her life Carrol "Scotty" E. Scott, and together they built a remarkable life full of love, laughter, and shared experiences. Peggy cherished their union of 57 years until his passing on February 25, 2011. Peggy is survived by her beloved daughter, Patricia "Trish" Scott of McPherson, Kansas. Trish provided endless love and support to her mother until the very end. In addition to Trish, Peggy's grandchildren, Chris Swick of Manhattan, KS and Rebecca (Matthew) Sanchelli of Overland Park, KS, were the light of her life and held a very special place in her heart. She adored them beyond measure and cherished every moment spent together. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Harold (Wanda) Scott of McPherson, KS; and many loyal &amp; faithful friends. Peggy's family was the center of her world.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Gary Scott; a brother, Lamar Cullens; and sister, Debbie Clance.&nbsp;

Joyce Eileen (Boatright) Hemphill, 80, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Eileen was born February 14, 1943 in Junction City, Kansas.&nbsp; The daughter of Lawrence M. and Beatrice (Deines) Boatright.&nbsp; Lawrence worked in the oil fields in central Kansas so they moved around during her childhood.&nbsp; She graduated from Russell High School in the Class of ’61.

Eileen was united in marriage to Earl M. Hemphill on September 2, 1962 in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children; Larry, James and Audra.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; Earl preceded her in death on April 11, 2002.

Eileen was a devoted wife and homemaker for her children.&nbsp; She did odd jobs throughout her life and really enjoyed running auto parts for Dean’s Auto Repair.&nbsp; She was an active member of the Bible Baptist Church.&nbsp; She also was a member of the Fire Fighters Ladies Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals.&nbsp; She also loved attending her grandchildren’s events.

Eileen’s surviving family include her two sons; Larry Hemphill (Bethena) of Gypsum, Kansas and James M. Hemphill of Russell, Kansas; her daughter, Audra McCall (Keith) of Florida; two sisters, Diana Boxberger (Ron) of Russell, Kansas and Deloris Wegele (Allen) of Concho, Arizona; sister-in-law, Andy Martin of Clyde, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and husband Earl.

Robert Allen Thomas, 75, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at North Central Kansas Medical Center.&nbsp;Robert was born November 30, 1947, to Murrell E. and Helen W. (Cox) Thomas in Concordia. He grew up and attended schools in Concordia before joining the United States Air Force in 1967. Robert proudly served for four years. After his honorable discharge, Robert worked many different jobs but was a long-time truck driver and always called Concordia home.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and attending Sturgis for several years.&nbsp;

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Fisher; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Ginger Thomas; infant brother, Charles.&nbsp;

Survivors include Brian Kieffer and his wife of Haysville, Bradley Kieffer of Arkansas City, Jean Kincaid and her husband of Missouri, Joan Kieffer of Arkansas City, Jeremy Thomas and his wife of Mulvane, Amy Eickleberry of North Carolina, and numerous great nephews and great nieces.

Rodney Lynn Helzer

Father Melvin Long was born August 7, 1940, in New Almelo. He died on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

Father Long’s parents were Andrew and Regina (Otter) Long. He attended grade school at St. John’s in Beloit, graduated from St. Francis Seminary High School in Victoria, St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota, as well as the American Theological Seminary at University of Louvain in Belgium.

He was ordained June 18, 1966, at St. John the Baptist in Beloit by Bishop Cyril Vogel.

One of the most notable accomplishments during Father Long’s ministry was founding St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Salina in 1981. Father Long led the project, building the parish from the ground up. The parish today is served by Father Keith Weber and has 684 families as regular parishioners. As the parish was being built, Father Long celebrated Mass in some very interesting places, including the movie theater!

Father Long’s priestly ministry included teaching positions at Marymount College, Bethany College and Cloud County Community College, but he was also called to minister in Europe. Father Long spent his seminary years in Belgium at the American Theological Seminary at University of Louvain. After his ordination, he was called back to Belgium to serve as a faculty member in 1973 and later served as leadership in the 1990s.

When Father Long retired in 2002, he moved to California due to health complications. However, his priestly ministry did not stop there. He filled in at parishes across the country so that other priests could take extended sabbaticals. He also was a part of the “Apostleship of the Sea of the United States of America” and did some cruise ship ministry for several years.

In the May 2016 issue of <a href="https://salinadiocese.org/news-and-updates/father-melvin-long-obituary/">The Register</a>, Father Long stated, “I love ministry, and I love people. That’s why I’ve continued (ministering) beyond retirement on a regular basis.”&nbsp; He also fondly recalled the many friendships he still maintained from his years serving in the Diocese of Salina.

1990-92: Executive Vice President for Development of American College at the Catholic University of Louvain, working from Washington D.C.

After his ordination, he was called back to Belgium to serve as a faculty member in 1973 and later served as leadership in the 1990s.When Father Long retired in 2002, he moved to California due to health complications. However, his priestly ministry did not stop there. He filled in at parishes across the country so that other priests could take extended sabbaticals. He also was a part of the “Apostleship of the Sea of the United States of America” and did some cruise ship ministry for several years.In the May 2016 issue of <a href="https://salinadiocese.org/news-and-updates/father-melvin-long-obituary/">The Register</a>, Father Long stated, “I love ministry, and I love people. Genevieve “Jenny” Anna Jones, age 96 entered into rest on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born in Republic County, Kansas on March 8, 1927 to Irvin and Mary (Dunphy) Hockman.

Jenny was a 1945 graduate of Clyde High School, Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She went on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.

Jenny taught all eight grades in country schools, north of Clyde.&nbsp;&nbsp;She also taught school at all the air bases where David was stationed.

Genevieve married, David Jones on Feb. 6, 1954 in Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Genevieve and David lived in California, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Arkansas, and Texas, during his service in the US Air Force.&nbsp;&nbsp;After Davd’s retirement they moved back to Clyde and Jenny taught the second grade at Clyde until her retirement.

Jenny enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, painting, and most of all spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, CDA, VFW Women’s Aux., and Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators.

Genevieve is survived by her sister, JoAnne Balthazor, Clyde, KS; sister-in-law, Martha Jones, Newington, NH and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces &amp; great nephews and a community of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband David, parents, Irvin and Mary, a brother, Arthur Hockman, and sister, Gloria Naillieux.

Rayburn Victor Tappendick, 82, passed away on August 16, 2023 at Pinnacle Park Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Salina, KS.

Ray was born on July 02, 1941 in Holyrood, KS to parents Oscar and Deloris (Becker) Tappendick.

Ray enjoyed family, gardening, working in the yard, cooking and cars. Every Sunday was family supper, his specialty was Meat loaf, Ray probably had 100 recipes for Meat loaf, and never made it the same twice. He loved cars and going to car shows, especially the lead sled car show. Ray asked that when he passes away, to make sure he was wearing his glasses as he wanted to see who all attends his funeral. He was so witty I remember him being told to have patience, and he replied if I wanted patience , I would have bought a hospital, he was told by one of his care givers that he didn't like change, his reply was no I like bills. Ray was a stubborn German, ask some of his care givers, but also loving, he would help anybody out.

Dad was always willing to take free stuff from venders, you were sure to get a bag at one and almost like trick or treating see how much you could get before leaving, going to Sam's club was always fun for free samples of food.&nbsp; He loved trick or treating especially if he scored a beer.&nbsp; I’m not sure if it was the early morning and all day wresting meets watching the grandkids wrestle or the biscuits and gravy.&nbsp; He always found a way to help support them whether it was going to a wrestling meet, gymnastics or taking a shot at the voice.&nbsp; If there was ever to be a shortage of self-tapping screws, aluminum or scrap pieces of plexiglass he was sure to have it and if you ever thought of trying to move any sort of object from the deck or fence you had another thing coming because the supply of liquid nail was plentiful. His wit of common sense was hilarious, you don't take your car to a grocery store to get worked on. Dad loved automobiles, if it had an engine and wheels if was worth checking out. Monster trucks, mud pulls, tractor pulls, drag races and car shows were at the top of the list.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Reverend Canon Bruce Erie&nbsp;<a></a>LeBarron, who&nbsp;died&nbsp;on&nbsp;August&nbsp;19, 2023&nbsp;in Salina, Kansas. He was born in Jamestown, New York,&nbsp;on February 9, 1930, to Erie H.&nbsp;LeBarron&nbsp;and&nbsp;Coralyn&nbsp;A.&nbsp;LeBarron&nbsp;(nee&nbsp;Remington).

He was preceded&nbsp;in death by his wife Lilith A.&nbsp;Harding whom he married on June 30, 1956, in Glens&nbsp;Falls, New York.

Father&nbsp;LeBarron&nbsp;had a long career&nbsp;in the Episcopal Church, laterally&nbsp;as an assistant priest at Christ Church Cathedral&nbsp;in Salina,&nbsp;assistant organist&nbsp;also&nbsp;at Christ Church Cathedral, an assisting priest for the Diocese of Western Kansas,&nbsp;church organist at St. John's Military School Chapel,&nbsp;and&nbsp;chaplain at Presbyterian Manor, Salina.

He is survived by his son Gregory&nbsp;LeBarron&nbsp;of&nbsp;McCordsville, IN; daughters Elizabeth&nbsp;LeBarron&nbsp;of Rockville, MD, and Sarah&nbsp;(Sally)&nbsp;Simmons of Lincolnshire England,&nbsp;two grandchildren&nbsp;and&nbsp;two great-grandchildren, as well as numerous friends who will miss him dearly.&nbsp;

Father&nbsp;LeBarron’s&nbsp;hobbies included building replica pipe organ&nbsp;pneumatic percussion&nbsp;instruments (such as&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snare_drum">snare drum</a>,&nbsp;and&nbsp;crash cymbal)&nbsp;and renovating and playing pipe organs.&nbsp;When he lived in Connecticut, he created a small silent picture “palace” in the garage of the house where he lived with his family. &nbsp;There, he accompanied the films on an organ he had rebuilt. &nbsp;He also enjoyed model railroading having an elaborate layout&nbsp;in his home. He also enjoyed&nbsp;the company of&nbsp;his many Golden Retrievers.

A Memorial of Life&nbsp;will be held at the Episcopal Christ Cathedral Church located on South 8th Street in Salina, KS on&nbsp;at a later date. In lieu of flowers,&nbsp;please donate&nbsp;directly&nbsp;to The Christ Cathedral Operating Fund or the Kansas Wesleyan University Nursing Scholarship in memory of&nbsp;Father&nbsp;Bruce&nbsp;E.&nbsp;LeBarron.

SALINA, KS -&nbsp;Deborah Jo Dubuc-Schindler&nbsp;passed peacefully to her heavenly home on August 12, 2023, at the age of 66 years young with her son Devin at her side. Deb was a wonderful mother and grandmother “Nana”. She had many friends and was well-loved.

The Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 18th, 2023, at 10 am at Christ the Lord Community Church (210 W. Shipton, Salina, KS) where Deb was a long-time member.&nbsp; Immediately following the service, there will be a procession to the burial at the Glendale Cemetery located at 11724 W. Watkins Rd, Glendale, KS 67425.

Deborah was an educator who specialized in Autism and Special Education for over 3 decades at USD #240 (Bennington/Tescott), USD #305 (Salina), and Garland Texas ISD. She created a program at Salina Central High School where she assisted her special education students with operating a catering business to assist them with understanding life skills that would help to pave their future successes.

Deborah leaves behind her son Devin Dubuc, wife Deirrian, grandson Dylan, granddaughter Mackenzie, granddaughter Teodora, grandson Jaxon, and grandson Kai.

Also survived by sister Angie Abbott, nephew Cadron Pickett, wife Hannah, and daughter Violet.

Deborah Jo Dubuc-Schindler

George Elmer Stein,&nbsp;71, of Salina, KS, passed on from this life on August 15th, 2023, at 1:25 PM. He left an enduring impact and impression on all those that he met and encountered. He was the absolute best Husband / Father / Papa to his immediate family and will be missed by not only his entire family, but also his community.

George was born on September 3, 1951, in Salina, KS to Kenneth and Dorothy Stein. He was raised on the family farm in Gypsum, KS with his six siblings until permanently moving to Salina in 1958. It was here that he lived in his childhood home until he graduated from high school.

He attended grade school at Franklin Elementary and graduated from Salina High in 1970. George was a member of the Salina High wrestling team. One of his fondest memories was that he was the first wrestler to use the “Irby” hold in competition.

He always knew how to work hard, and it was expected from an early age. He started working at the age of nine and held various jobs to earn extra money. During high school, he worked for AJ Holmquist as an equipment operator. One of George’s favorite teachers told him, “If someone asks you if you know how to do something, say yes and learn along the way.”&nbsp; He used this mantra to guide him in life. George immediately went to work after graduating from High School and started with JS Frank Construction. He was a laborer and did whatever was asked of him. In 1976, he went to work for Nelson and Company and worked his way into a Superintendent position. He traveled across the Midwest completing projects for them. In 1983, he started L&amp;S Building Contractors with his longtime friend, Gene Luetters. Together they were able to build a well-respected construction company that, still today, is easily identified by its trademark use of the color, red. He used to say, “If You Want the Best, You Call L&amp;S, If you Don’t, You Call All the Rest.”&nbsp; George would eventually sell his company to his son Joe, in 2003, and went on to establish and operate Broadway Mini-Storage until his retirement in 2020.

George loved donating his time, talent, and treasure to help his fellow man. He was an active and Charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10778 and the Salina Breakfast AMBUCS.

George met his wife Mary Robb in February of 1972. They exchanged vows at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on April 7, 1973. They spent fifty wonderful years together and would go on to have three children – Joe, Jenny, and Justin.

George instilled in his kids the values of hard work, education, and faith. He lived by the motto “Work Hard – Play Hard.”&nbsp; Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He treasured time spent with his kids and grandkids and was always looking forward to the next adventure.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy, sister Barbara Ann, brother Larry, as well as brother-in-law Larry Cianciolo and sister-in-law Edna Stein.

He is survived by his wife Mary, son Joe (Nancy) Stein, daughter Jenny (Greg) Maring, and son Justin (Marisa) Stein. Together they have seven grandchildren which meant the world to him – Dawson Maring, Cole Stein, Makenzie Maring, Lauren Stein, Leah Stein, Jackson Stein, and Malone Stein, as well as siblings Anita (Melvin) Denson, Annette Cianciolo, Jolene (Leon) Weiser, John (Cathy) Stein, Bob Stein, as well as numerous nieces / nephews and extended family and friends.

George touched so many lives and was loved by all. He knew no strangers and welcomed many with his big smile, laugh, and warm hugs.&nbsp; He left an undeniable impression on many by supporting his kids, grandkids, and all their friends in their extra-curricular activities and was a fixture at both South and Central events for over 40 years.

There will be a visitation and celebration of life on Sunday, August 20th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a Rosary to follow at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina, KS&nbsp; 67401.&nbsp; A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 21st at 10:00 AM with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery following.

He was the absolute best Husband / Father / Papa to his immediate family and will be missed by not only his entire family, but also his community.George was born on September 3, 1951, in Salina, KS to Kenneth and Dorothy Stein. He was raised on the family farm in Gypsum, KS with his six siblings until permanently moving to Salina in 1958. It was here that he lived in his childhood home until he graduated from high school.He attended grade school at Franklin Elementary and graduated from Salina High in 1970. George was a member of the Salina High wrestling team. One of his fondest memories was that he was the first wrestler to use the “Irby” hold in competition.He always knew how to work hard, and it was expected from an early age. He started working at the age of nine and held various jobs to earn extra money. During high school, he worked for AJ Holmquist as an equipment operator. One of George’s favorite teachers told him, “If someone asks you if you know how to do something, say yes and learn along the way.”&nbsp; He used this mantra to guide him in life. George immediately went to work after graduating from High School and started with JS Frank Construction. He was a laborer and did whatever was asked of him. In 1976, he went to work for Nelson and Company and worked his way into a Superintendent position. He traveled across the Midwest completing projects for them. In 1983, he started L&amp;S Building Contractors with his longtime friend, Gene Luetters. Together they were able to build a well-respected construction company that, still today, is easily identified by its trademark use of the color, red. He used to say, “If You Want the Best, You Call L&amp;S, If you Don’t, You Call All the Rest.”&nbsp; George would eventually sell his company to his son Joe, in 2003, and went on to establish and operate Broadway Mini-Storage until his retirement in 2020.George loved donating his time, talent, and treasure to help his fellow man. Mary "Lola" Ginther, 88, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 15th, 2023. Lola was born in Rural Barnard, Kansas on November 23, 1934, a daughter of Mary (Nelson) and Sherman Jackson. After high school, she graduated from Brown Mackie Business College. Survivors include three daughters, Karla Manspeaker (Bob), of Hope, Brenda Penney (Jay Bailey), of Wichita, Denise Tweedy (Douglas), of Gypsum; son, Steve Penney (Kris), of Papillion, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren, Eric Tweedy (Eric Strimple), Ian Bailey, Jason Penney (Jessica), Lysandra Penney (James Eele); 7 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Kay Jackson, of Rural Barnard, Kansas. Michael Alan “Mike” Hopper, 63, of Russell, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023 at his home.

Mike was born February 24, 1960, in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;The son of James David, II and Dorothy M. (Teppe) Hopper. &nbsp;He grew up in Russell and was a 1978&nbsp;graduate of Russell High School. &nbsp;He then attended Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University.

Mike was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Baird on July 6, 1985 in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;This union was blessed with two children; Cameron and Brianne. &nbsp;They made their home in Russell.

Mike was the General Manager of ABCO Wire &amp; Metal Products. &nbsp;He was active in the Russell Pheasants Forever. &nbsp;He enjoyed fishing, golf and hunting. He spent his free time working and playing at the farm with his friends and family.

Surviving family include his wife of 38 years, Beth of Russell, Kansas; son, Cameron W. Hopper (Mary Grace) of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter, Brianne E. Perez (Erick) of Swansboro, North Carolina; sister, Becky Vogt of Las Cruces, New Mexico; brothers, Tom Hopper (Carol) of Mesquite, Texas and Tim Hopper (Laura) of Russell, Kansas; and a grandson, Hezekiah Perez.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James D. Hopper, III and William Z. Hopper.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Michael Alan “Mike” Hopper

Mary Katherine (Wickstrom) Nolan, 102, of Marquette, KS, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, &nbsp;in Marquette.

Mary was born on August 26, 1920, in Conway, KS, the daughter of E. Birdette and Grace B. (Hollingsworth) Wickstrom.&nbsp; She graduated from Marquette High School and Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Kansas City, MO.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mary was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1968.&nbsp; She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1945.&nbsp; She served as a nurse at several Air Force hospitals and was Director of Nursing at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On March 9, 1969, Mary was united in marriage to Alson V. Nolan, Jr.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on December 8, 2000.

Survivors include: a niece, Cynthia (Mike) Hulse of Marquette, KS; nephews, Todd Parkhill of Los Angeles, CA and Clif Parkhill, Jr. of Oxnard, CA; great-nephews, Brandon Hulse of Marquette, KS, Lance Hulse of Tipton, KS, and Matthew (Diane) Wickstrom of Marquette, KS; great-great-niece, Kimber Grace Wickstrom; great-great-nephew, John David Wickstrom; step-son, Alson Nolan, III of Mesquite, TX; step-grandsons, Jeffery (Lea) Nolan of Fairview, TX and Michael Patrick Nolan of Allen, TX; step-great-grandson, Parker Scott (Olivia) Nolan of Anna, TX; and many extended family and friends.

Shirley Kay Robbins-Rodriquez

Norma Jean Phelps, 91, of Salina, Kan., passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023. She was born on the family farm in rural Saline County, Kan., on November 26, 1931, to James and Elizabeth “Alice” (Walle) Phillips.

Norma married John Phelps in Concordia, Kan., and they started life on a farm west of Bavaria, raising laying hens and selling hatching eggs. She worked at the Brookville Hotel in Brookville, Kan., before the family moved to a home west of Hedville – present farm – on Reese Road. She helped feed cattle and many hogs, haul grain during harvest, and always had chickens to raise and sell eggs. Norma was an avid gardener and home canner. She was always cooking for whoever was there - you always got something to eat, and the coffee was always on.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Allen Phelps; daughter, Angela Manningly; and brother Bill Phillips; and infant brother, Harold.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Ahlquist (Frank) of Tescott, Kan.; brothers, Donald Phillips (Jeanette) and Tom Phillips (Belinda); grandchildren, Jon Ahlquist, Jeanne Ahlquist, Jessica Ebert (Levi), Joel Phelps (Lynette), and Tim Lyon (Agi); great-grandchildren, Ty and Mason Ebert, Garrett Phelps, and Abigail Lyon; and many nieces and nephews.

She was always cooking for whoever was there - you always got something to eat, and the coffee was always on.She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Allen Phelps; daughter, Angela Manningly; and brother Bill Phillips; and infant brother, Harold.Survivors include her daughter, Linda Ahlquist (Frank) of Tescott, Kan.; brothers, Donald Phillips (Jeanette) and Tom Phillips (Belinda); grandchildren, Jon Ahlquist, Jeanne Ahlquist, Jessica Ebert (Levi), Joel Phelps (Lynette), and Tim Lyon (Agi); great-grandchildren, Ty and Mason Ebert, Garrett Phelps, and Abigail Lyon; and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with family present from 6-8. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, at Ryan Mortuary.
