Mike "Buco" Kent Coats

Michael “Buco” Kent Coats, beloved husband, son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his home on June 27, 2024. He was 60 years old.Born on September 17, 1963, Michael was a hard-working man who dedicated 33 years of his life as a pipe fitter at Oxychem/Vulcan. Michael was known for his strong work ethic and his dedication to providing for his family. When he wasn't working, you could find him fishing, hunting, coaching bitty basketball, cooking his favorite dishes like chili verde, ribs, or manicotti. And never missing a game during college basketball season rooting for the Kansas Jayhawks or his favorite MLB team, the New York Yankees. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Michael was known for his quirky comments and statements, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or friend. He is survived by his wife Stacey of Whitewater; mother Marilyn Coats of Potwin; Children: Jacob (Ricky) Coats of Wichita, Jaclyn (Andy) Nellans of Burns, Caitlin (William) Mullan of Grass Valley, CA, Quintin (Natasha) McGehee of Valley Center, Margaret Coats of Whitewater; Grandchildren: Silas, Raegan, Amelia, Orion, and Harper; and his sister Pamela (Roger) McQuiston of Potwin. He is preceded in death by his father Charles “Chuck” Coats. His family will gather with friends on Sunday July 7, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater. His memorial service will be held Monday July 8, 2024, 2 p.m. at the Potwin United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions in Mike's name may be directed to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital or Passageways.
