Joan Marie Mosher, 87, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at her home in Russell.

Joan was born on January 15, 1933, in Concordia, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Demante) Starkey.  She grew up in Clyde, Kansas, and graduated from Clyde High School.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Harold “Gene” Mosher on July 28, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas.  From this union Joan and Gene were blessed with a daughter Margaret.  Joan was a loving wife, mother and homemaker and took pride in working in her yard and flower garden.

She is survived by her loving husband, of 70 years, Gene of the home, her daughter Margaret Mosher of Salina, Kansas, and a sister Betty Lyons of Topeka, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. 

A private service will be held by the family and close friends and cremation has been selected by the family.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

December 27, 1947~October 22, 2020(age 72)

Kent Chase, the son of George M. and Opal Jean (White) Chase, was born on December 27, 1947, in Beloit, Kansas. Kent grew up in Courtland, graduating from Courtland High School, class of 1966. Following high school, Kent attended Beloit Vo Tech, where he studied Auto Mechanics.

Kent served his country by enlisting in the US Navy, and proudly served two years in Vietnam as a SeaBee. While serving, he earned three bronze stars, and was honorably discharged in 1970.

After returning home from Vietnam, Kent was employed at Chase Service, Republic Oil Co., and Reinke Manufacturing.&nbsp;

He enjoyed motocross and go-cart racing, as well as attending NHRA drag races, The Belleville Midget Nationals, and showing off his 1973 Chevy van in area car shows. He also spent numerous weekends camping and relaxing at the lake. Later in life, he spent his time watching any kind of sporting events.

He married Cathy D. Gates Pettit on May 23, 1985, at the Methodist Church in Republic.

Kent is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Chase, in-laws Rich and Cam Gates, sister in law Lorie Waugh, and daughter Michelle Kumbera.

Left to forever cherish his memory&nbsp;is his wife Cathy, son Andy Kent Chase (Megan) of Miltonvale, Dawn Morley (Daniel) of Belleville, Cory Pettit (Jeannie Franson) of Clay Center, Kansas, Dani Isaacson (Troy) of Scandia, and family friend, Wendy Pettit.

Kent is also survived by his grandchildren, Drew Morley (Morgan), Darci Morley (Brad Deneault), Harlan “Randy” Dal Bianco, Josh Mason (Josie), Tory Isaacson, Payton Isaacson, Taryn Isaacson, Kye Chase and Kyndra Chase; Great-grandchildren, Colt and Addley Morley, Lela Mason, Theodore Mason and Freya Mason.

He is also survived by his brother, J.C. Field (Carol) of Salina, sister in law Jana Chase of Beloit, brother in law Byron Gates (Theresa) of Hastings, sister in law Joni Latham (Jesse) of Republic, brother in law Gerry Waugh of Mankato.

Friends may sign Kent’s book on Friday, October 30th, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 31st, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Republic, with Pastor Lance Rundus officiating.

John Marshall Nylund was born on September 28, 1944, in Concordia, Kansas, the son of John Jefferson and Virginia Lee (Marshall) Nylund. John grew up on the family farm east of Scandia, and graduated from Scandia High School, class of 1962. Throughout high school and college, many summers included working at the Kansas State University Experiment Farm.

Following high school, John attended and played football at Fairbury Junior College for two years. He then attended Fort Hays State University until he was drafted in March 1968 into the United States Army. He proudly served his country as a combat medic of B Company 4th Medical Battalion in the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, John finished college earning dual degrees in Botany and Agronomy then returned home to work on the family farm.

John married Judith Ann Sothers on July 6, 1968, at the Courtland Methodist Church, and to this union two children were born, Jeremy Shawn and Jennifer Ann.

John was an active member of the Scandia American Legion for 49 years beginning in 1971. His love of fishing led him to be a member of Salina Bass Masters from 1978 - 1998 and also Tri-City Bass Club and Bass-n-Badges until 2004. He was on the Scandia School Board from 1978 - 1979 during consolidation to USD 426, Pike Valley Schools. John served as Republic County Commissioner District 2 from 1993 - 2001. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scandia.

John was passionate about hunting, fishing, sports and had a knack for fixing anything and everything. He enjoyed playing ball, putting together puzzles and fishing with his grandchildren. John’s laid back easy going personality allowed him patience with all he encountered. His quick witted and off the wall sense of humor entertained friends, grandchildren, children and their friends.

John passed away on October 21, 2020, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 76 years and 23 days. He is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Judy, son Jeremy Nylund and his wife Emily of Scandia, daughter Jennifer Nylund of Wichita, &nbsp;grandchildren Landry and Jennings Nylund. John is also survived by his brother, James “Jim” Nylund and his wife Vicki of Scandia, and his sister, Nancy Molter of Scandia.

Husband, Dad, Grandpa, friend; you are gone from our arms now, but the memories we have together, your spirit, and your love will remain forever in our hearts.

Johnny will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends.

Donna Mae Hayes, age 88, lifetime resident of Council Grove, Kansas passed away October 23, 2020, at Diversicare of Council Grove.

Donna was born March 9, 1932 to Theodore and Velma Miller Litke in Council Grove. She graduated from Council Grove High School in 1950. A couple years later, Robert Wayne Hayes drove to Donna’s in his yellow Mercury, with the rag top down and asked to start courting.&nbsp; They later married in November 1954 and lived happily ever after until his death on June 26, 2003.&nbsp; Donna worked at various places, she was a phone operator, worked with Skeen Tax Services, her and Wayne owned and operated Hayes Oil Company as well as Hayes Carry Out.

She enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, camping, and annual South Texas trips with friends and family.&nbsp; She was famous for making rag rugs and she also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Donna loved her family and was proud of each and every one of them.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, daughter Lisa Wilburn, sister Mary Ann Allen, and brothers Allen, Frank, Teddy and Jim Litke.

She is survived by her sons: Brad Hayes and wife Kristie and Mike Hayes and wife Gina, all of Council Grove; son-in-law Larry Wilburn; sisters-in-law LaVerna Kufahl and Betty Litke; grandchildren: Kaysee Hayes (Becky), Ryne Hayes (Michelle), Nathan Hayes (Juli), Erin Erichsen (Matt), Kailea Horn (Jarryd), Erica Effland (Kaleb), and Larisa Wilburn; 14 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Donna will sadly missed by all.

September 19, 1932~October 20, 2020(age 88)

Marilyn was born at home on the family farm at Lost Springs, KS, on September 19, 1932. She graduated from Lost Springs High School and Wichita Business College, then in 1997 received a BA in Theological Studies from Vision Christian University, Ramona, CA. She worked as an insurance agent/underwriter for various agencies in California for most of her career. She retired at age 65, then several years later rejoined the company she retired from to continue working part time until 2016. She moved to Texas in 2019 to be close to family.

Marilyn gave her life to Christ in 1983. She loved God and shared His love and Word. She did this in various ways, including holding services in a nursing home (1983-1984), a county women's detention center (1985-2019), and a California state prison (2006-2016). She also served at First Assembly of God, Bakersfield, CA, as an elder, an usher and on various prayer ministry teams for many years. She was a mighty, faithful woman of God with a wonderful smile.

She is survived by her sister, Marcia Welch, her niece Tina Welch and husband Bobby Hill Jr., and their son, Logan Hill, all of Arlington, Texas, and her cousin Gerald Carlson, of Sequim, Washington.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, James and Alma Burdette McCoy, a brother John McCoy, and his wife Constance.Graveside services will be held on Saturday Oct. 31, 2020 at Lost Springs Cemetery led by Pastor Darrel Geist.&nbsp; Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family.

Dean was born on April 26, 1970, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Daryl and Jane (Widiger) Donaldson. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1989 and received his bachelor’s degree in art and restoration in 2013. He was united in marriage to Nancy J. Salminen on October 18, 1997, in Marquette, KS. This union was blessed with two sons, Tristan and Caleb. On October 19, 2016, he married Diana M. Rose. Bruce E. Day, 68, of rural Council Grove, passed away October 22, 2020. He was born in Council Grove, Kansas, on June 1, 1952, to L.C. “Pete” Day and Doris Giger Day.

Bruce graduated from Bushong Grade School in 1966 and Northern Heights High School in 1970. He received an Associates Degree in Business from Cloud County Community College in 1972, where he lettered both years in basketball and tennis. He then went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Emporia State University in Business Administration in 1974. The same year he married his high school sweetheart, Joleen Schiesser.

After getting married, Bruce and Joleen moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked for K-Mart as a manager for three years. He was transferred to Omaha, Nebraska, before moving back to the Day Family Ranch in 1977. He then took a position with Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply of Emporia, Kansas. He retired from Bluestem after 35 years.

Throughout his life, Bruce enjoyed playing and coaching youth sports. He was a member of the Council Grove United Methodist Church and an active role model in 4-H. Most importantly, Bruce was a lifelong cattleman. He enjoyed working, managing, and custom grazing cattle alongside his family.

He was most proud of his four children and ten grandchildren. Bruce is survived by his daughter Mindy Amend (husband Luke) of Whitewater, Kansas; daughter, Lisa Jarvis (husband Ben) of rural Council Grove, Kansas; daughter, Sondra Sparks (husband Derek) of Tonganoxie, Kansas; and son, Pete Day (wife Nikki) of rural Council Grove, Kansas. Grandchildren include Ella and Julia Amend; Brayden and Brody Jarvis; Mason, Logan, and Ava Sparks; Eli, Dani, and Lexi Day. He is also survived by his brothers: Don Day (wife Carole) of rural Council Grove, Kansas, and Dean Day (wife Maria) of Hesston, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joleen Day, as well as his mother&nbsp;and father.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 30, 2020, at 1:00 pm at the Comiskey Cemetery, seven miles east of Council Grove. Archie J. Fry, 88, Salina, passed away on October 21, 2020 with loved ones by his side. He was born Feb. 3, 1932 to Archie and Alma (Fick) Fry. He was an electrician for Beech Aircraft and Smokey Hill Bomb Range, and drove trucks for Coca-Cola. He loved camping, traveling the country, fishing, hunting and playing Black Jack. Archie had a green thumb with a beautiful yard and big garden.

He was a proud veteran serving his country in the Navy in the Korean War where he received several medals of honor and certificates of accomplishment.

Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; brother; Carl, sisters; Dorthy Battles and Alma Smith; brother in laws, Norm Reed, Jerry Battles, Jack Smith and stepson, Tom Brin.

He is survived by his wife, Geri; sons, Dennis and Greg of Salina; daughters, Darcy (Bill) Smith, Bennington, DeAnnda (Roland) Bird, Salina; and stepchildren, Jerry, Randy, and Mark Brin and Janelle Hull. He has 5 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren and his best buddy â€œSportâ€.

Tony Michael Lauberentered the world on October 2, 1972 the firstborn of Clinton and Romeyn (Brubaker) Lauber at St. John's Hospital in Salina. Tony was a boy who always stood a head above his peers. In his First Communion and early school pictures, the other students all were much shorter in stature. His Loving Father called him home on October 6, 2020. A huge void occupies the space he once filled.

Tony loved the KSU Wildcats and Kansas City Chiefs, but his favorite team was the Colorado Rockies. For many years, the annual family trip was planned for Denver during his time off each summer. As soon as the Rockies schedule came out, he was planning which fireworks game to attend. Another part of this trek included a tour of the Coors Brewery in Golden. The biggest smiles in any of his pictures came from the pictures taken at the beginning of the tour. He always had to purchase a set as souvenirs.

He worked at Great Plains Mfg. for over 20 years and was a very hard worker. Tony was very fond of his supervisor, Loren Miller. The family very much appreciates the support and care that Loren gave to him. He was proud to be employed at Great Plains and each day came home and took his calculator out to see how many parts he averaged that day.

Tony is survived by his parents, Clint and Romeyn Lauber and his beloved sister, Jaime. He is also survived by uncles Randall, Ron, Gary, Abdel, and Ken and aunts, Patricia, Peggy, Pamela, Mary, Marlene and Debbie. He is also survived by seventeen cousins.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Mona, Louis and Kenneth, Gilbert and Dorothy as well as his great-grandparents and two cousins, Youssef and Christine.

Tony will be very much missed by many. The family has been overwhelmed by the love people had for our gentle giant. He was kind, honest and what you saw was what you got. He was happy with the way God made him and wanted nothing more. That is a quality that was obvious from the many people he had an impact on.

Tony was very excited about the reconstruction of St. Mary Queen of the Universe, which he called "our church" every time he drove by there. Memorials have been designated toward the renovation project in Tony's memory.

Family visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 27 at Ryan Mortuary, with a vigil/rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 28 at St. Mary's Parish Center. Burial will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required.

He worked as a Machinist for over 25 years. Allen’s greatest joy was seeing and talking to his niece and nephew Kiva and Tel.

Donna Joyce (Line) Shoemaker, the daughter of Malcolm H. and Gladys M. (Haldeman) Line, was born September 26, 1939, in Sabetha, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away October 21, 2020, at the Belleville Health Care Center at the age of 81.&nbsp; She grew up on her family’s farm northwest of Haddam, KS built by her Grandpa Haldeman and his dad, where she made many wonderful memories with her younger brother, Duane.&nbsp; She attended school in Haddam, graduating in 1957.&nbsp; Following high school, Donna attended Clark Business School in Topeka and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for a short time.

Introduced by a mutual friend, Donna met the love of her life, Marvin Shoemaker, at a Methodist Youth Fellowship meeting in 1955.&nbsp; Their blind date turned into a happy courtship. They were married on April 19, 1958 and lived on the farm south of Narka for almost 60 years.&nbsp; When Donna’s health began to decline, they moved to Belleville in 2017.&nbsp; To this union of over 62 years, they were blessed with two children, Frank L. Shoemaker and Janet R. (Shoemaker) Fisher.&nbsp;

As a busy farm wife and homemaker, Donna had many projects going at the same time.&nbsp; She was a mother, cook, gardener, seamstress and a truck driver during harvest.&nbsp; She worked at the Republic County USDA Farm Service Agency, retiring after 20 years.&nbsp; During her retirement, she spent many hours researching and writing family history books with information she gathered from interviews, newspaper clippings and pictures. She delighted in her grandchildren and loved to bake her special cookies and candies for them at Christmas.&nbsp; She had many interests and hobbies that included studying history, crafting and sewing.

Donna was active in her community as a member of the Narka Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, moderator of Narka Presbyterian Women, and attended bible studies with her friends. For many years, she was a Community Leader of the Narka 4-H club and served as the Clothing project leader.

Music was always a gift she loved to share throughout her life as a vocalist, organist and pianist.&nbsp; She was a member of the Ophel Chapter 115 Eastern Star and served as the Grand Organist at the Kansas Grand Chapter in 1982-83. She thoroughly enjoyed her music ministry, singing and playing the organ and piano for church, weddings and funerals.&nbsp; One of her greatest loves was singing with Marvin and her dear friends in the gospel group, “The Ten Pieces.”

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Duane L. Line, great grandsons, Kyler Allen Shoemaker, Brantley Ethan Shoemaker, great granddaughter, Ashley Faith Shoemaker, brothers-in-law, Paul F. Shoemaker, and Robert L. Baetz.

Donna is survived by her husband, Marvin Shoemaker, Belleville, son, Frank (Lynette) Shoemaker, Marysville, Kansas, daughter, Janet (Abe) Fisher, Brookfield, WI.&nbsp; She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura (Mark) Fincham, Ankeny, IA, Rex (Kaitlyn) Shoemaker, Maxwell, IA, Caleb Fisher, Pratt, KS, Connor Fisher, Manhattan, KS; Creighton Fisher, Brookfield, WI; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Afton, Emery, and Anika Fincham of Ankeny, IA,&nbsp; Aaron, Mashea, Addyson, and Raleigh Shoemaker of Maxwell, IA, and sisters-in-law, Rosalie Line, Washington, KS, Sylvia Shoemaker, Narka, KS, and Margaret Baetz, Branson, MO.

For many years, she was a Community Leader of the Narka 4-H club and served as the Clothing project leader.Music was always a gift she loved to share throughout her life as a vocalist, organist and pianist.&nbsp; She was a member of the Ophel Chapter 115 Eastern Star and served as the Grand Organist at the Kansas Grand Chapter in 1982-83. She thoroughly enjoyed her music ministry, singing and playing the organ and piano for church, weddings and funerals.&nbsp; One of her greatest loves was singing with Marvin and her dear friends in the gospel group, “The Ten Pieces.”She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Duane L. Linda's life began on February 14, 1946 in Maywood, CA.  She was the daughter of John and Helen (Stieler) Millar. 

 She was educated in California and spent most of her life there. 

 Linda was united in marriage to Ronald Burstein who preceded her in death in 2005.  

She moved to Kansas with her family in 2018. 

 She was an animal lover at heart.  Linda was a Denver Broncos fan, LA Dodgers fan and USC football fan.  She also enjoyed fishing, sewing, and quilting. 

 She is survived by her children John (Heather) Burstein of Florence, KS, Erin Graae of California, Crystal Burstein of Apple Valley, CA, Nancy LaNier of New York, and Stephen Burstein of California; grandchildren Nathan, Tyler, Mark, Amber, Linda, Alex, Rebecca and Joseph; several great grandchildren and her sister Diane Crist of Oregon. 

 Linda passed away suddenly at her home in Florence on October 21, 2020. 

 She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Dick Millar. 

 Due to Covid 19 concerns, funeral services will be held at a later date.  She is being laid to rest in Desert Lawn Cemetery in Calimesa, CA.  Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family. &nbsp; Funeral services for LaDell A. Riffel, age 89, of Enterprise, will be 2:00 pm Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shadybrook, with Reverend Alan Stahlecker officiating. LaDell passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the home surrounded by family. She was born May 25, 1931 in Hillsboro, Kansas the daughter of William and Emma (Zitterkopf) Oblander. She graduated from Durham High School in 1949. LaDell was devoted to her family and friends and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading books, baking, cooking, and making her award winning angel food cakes. One of her greatest joys was being the Grand Marshall for the Wild Bill Hickok Fair. On July 31, 1949 she was united in marriage to Donald L. Riffel. LaDell was a school bus driver for USD 473 for 34 years, worked at the county fair office for 19 years, and helped her husband and daughter on the farm. She is survived by her daughter Margarete Riffel of Enterprise, sons Randy and wife Michelle Riffel of Council Grove, Rowland and his wife Christine Riffel of Musselshell, Montana, foster son Terry and his wife Leslie Neustrum of Olathe, sister DeEtta and her husband David Williams of Emporia, eight grandchildren Tammy, Stephanie, Shannan, Justin, Eric, Jessica, Ty, and Matt, five great grandchildren Latasha, Kade, Kendall, Kacie, and Gunner, sister-in-law Donna Riffel, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Emma Oblander, loving husband Donald on February 8, 2004, daughter Gwenda Bohannan, and her grandson Billy Ray Bohannan, Jr. Her final resting place will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Alfred P. Brown, 82, ElDorado, died Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Minneapolis Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.&nbsp; He was born June 20, 1938 in Cloud County to Leonard and Ruth (Schaffer) Brown.

He was a high school graduate and served in the United States Army for two years.&nbsp; He worked for Raytheon as a crew chief for 38 years. &nbsp;Alfred was also a jockey and horse trainer for many years &nbsp;

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Joseph; siblings, Willard, Ed, Eleanor; and brother-in-law, John Roesner.

Survivors are his children, Greg (Susan) Brown, Glenn (Jackie) Brown, and Dixie (Don) Dooley; siblings, Ron (Lavonna) Brown, Bill (Linda) Brown, and Norma Roesner; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Calvin Edward “Ed” Kretzer, 78, of Lindsborg passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 20, 2020.  Calvin was born October 1, 1942 in Independence, KS to late Leland Ketzer and Millie (Button) Vargas.  He married Marilyn J. Anderson, on April 14, 1962, at Eades, CO.  

Ed worked in construction and manufacturing, including a time a Phillips Lighting in Salina.

He is survived by his wife: Marilyn J.(Anderson) Kretzer, of the home; daughter: Linda Kretzer of Assaria, KS; sister: Brenda Burggraf (Paul) of Stratford, WI; brother: Doug Kretzer of Marquette, KS;  grandchildren: Heather Koffman (Shane), Nicole Taylor (Alex), and Clint Koffman; and great grandchildren: Jackson Calvin and Olivia, Morgan, and Natalie Taylor.

She graduated from Vega, TX High School where she was the valedictorian of her class. Rhonda was united in marriage to Gene Patrick Hart, II, and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2009. Survivors include: three children, Lacy France of McPherson, KS, Jake Lowery (Sara) of McPherson, KS, and Ciarra Sanders (Stephen) of St. Louis, MO; father, Quincy Taylor of McPherson, KS; three siblings, Eddy Ainsworth (Lynne) of Mineral Wells, TX, Regina LeGron of Colorado, and Frances Vogler (Tim) of Quapaw, OK; three grandchildren, Chase Patrick Lowery, Noah Teadon Lowery, and Lily Jo Lowery; and many extended family and friends. He married Connie Ehrich in South Dakota on April 11, 1959. They later divorced. He worked for RHV Hardware in Abilene before taking a job as an Insurance Adjuster for Upland Mutual.&nbsp; He worked for Longford Water following his retirement from Upland Mutual.&nbsp; Chester married Janice Blake on August 13, 1982.&nbsp; He enjoyed competition shooting woodworking, hunting and repairing guns.&nbsp; Chester looked forward to his yearly hunting trip to Alaska.&nbsp; Chester was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ray O, Samuel, Dan and Quentin Smith; two sisters, Maude Tyler and Opal Kiekel.

Chester M Smith

Wallace Dean Ingmire of Council Grove, Kansas, finished the race and won his eternal prize on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 89 years and six months.

Wally was born April 6, 1931, to Howard and Gladys Edwards Ingmire in a farmhouse near White City, Kansas. Growing up on a farm in Kansas in the 1930’s was an adventure for Wally, his two older brothers, and one younger sister. The family moved to Council Grove when he was in the eighth grade. He participated in sports – primarily football and basketball – during his high school years and went on to play football for one season at the College of Emporia.

It was because of his involvement in sports that he caught the eye of a young lady. When Wally was a sophomore in high school, he was nominated for Homecoming king. The sophomore girl nominated for Homecoming queen was Norma Jean Knackstedt. As sophomores, they were voted as Homecoming King and Queen. That began a relationship that led to their dating and eventually marriage. Wallace and Norma were married on March 5, 1950, and celebrated 63 years of marriage before her passing in 2013. They were proud parents to four children – Douglas, Randall, Mark, and Lori. These four children and their spouses blessed them with twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

The Church and their relationship with Jesus Christ were always important to Wally and Norma. Both grew up going to church, but it was shortly after their marriage during a revival meeting held at the Council Grove Christian Church that he made the decision to be baptized by immersion and give his life completely to God. Their lives always displayed that faith commitment whether it was doing physical labor on the church buildings or doing spiritual labor in Sunday school classes, Bible studies, and prayer groups. Wally also served as an elder in the church for many years. Their lives together influenced hundreds of individuals for Christ as they expressed kindness, encouragement, care, and service both in the church and in the community they loved.

In 1969, Wally opened Ingmire Plumbing, Heating, and Appliance. The growing up years on the farm and his commitment to Christ influenced how he operated the business. His customers were treated with fairness and compassion, and he always went the 2nd and 3rd mile to help them with their needs. Many family dinners were interrupted with a phone call from someone whose furnace or air conditioner had quit. He never threw anything out because he never knew when he might need the part or the “thing-a-ma-jig.” After 50-plus years of owning his own business on Main Street in Council Grove, Wally closed up shop in 2019.

An article in a 2010 church newsletter about Wally and Norma stated, “His interests/hobbies include his work and keeping Norma happy.” More could be told about Wally’s actions and involvement in people’s lives, but his sister, Shirley, summed it best with the statement, “He is the nicest man I’ve ever known.”

The family is establishing a scholarship fund in his memory for Council Grove High School students who are planning to enroll in an area vocational/technical college. Memorial gifts may be designated to Wallace Ingmire Technical Education Scholarship or to Gideon’s International.

Face masks and social distancing will be required at all services. He will Lie in State for public viewing from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, at Sawyer Funeral Chapel. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, at Community Christian Church. That will be followed by a Graveside Service at 11:00 a.m. that will be open to the public.

Both grew up going to church, but it was shortly after their marriage during a revival meeting held at the Council Grove Christian Church that he made the decision to be baptized by immersion and give his life completely to God. Their lives always displayed that faith commitment whether it was doing physical labor on the church buildings or doing spiritual labor in Sunday school classes, Bible studies, and prayer groups. Wally also served as an elder in the church for many years. Their lives together influenced hundreds of individuals for Christ as they expressed kindness, encouragement, care, and service both in the church and in the community they loved.In 1969, Wally opened Ingmire Plumbing, Heating, and Appliance. The growing up years on the farm and his commitment to Christ influenced how he operated the business. His customers were treated with fairness and compassion, and he always went the 2nd and 3rd mile to help them with their needs. Many family dinners were interrupted with a phone call from someone whose furnace or air conditioner had quit. He never threw anything out because he never knew when he might need the part or the “thing-a-ma-jig.” After 50-plus years of owning his own business on Main Street in Council Grove, Wally closed up shop in 2019.An article in a 2010 church newsletter about Wally and Norma stated, “His interests/hobbies include his work and keeping Norma happy.” More could be told about Wally’s actions and involvement in people’s lives, but his sister, Shirley, summed it best with the statement, “He is the nicest man I’ve ever known.”The family is establishing a scholarship fund in his memory for Council Grove High School students who are planning to enroll in an area vocational/technical college. Memorial gifts may be designated to Wallace Ingmire Technical Education Scholarship or to Gideon’s International.Face masks and social distancing will be required at all services. He will Lie in State for public viewing from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, at Sawyer Funeral Chapel. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, at Community Christian Church. That will be followed by a Graveside Service at 11:00 a.m. that will be open to the public.

Betty Nadine (Simmelink) Schoen, age 99 years, 8 months, and 15 days, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Downs Care and Rehabilitation. Betty was born February 5, 1921 to George and Anna (Kuiken) Simmelink on a farm near Oak Creek School North of Downs.&nbsp;

Betty moved to a farm 9 miles North of Downs as a small child. She graduated from Oak Creek Grade School. On March 12, 1941 she married Meryl Emil Schoen of rural Cawker City. They celebrated 72 years of marriage. To this union Meryl and Betty were blessed with four surviving children. Meryl and Betty farmed in the Cawker City area until they retired off the farm in 1978. Upon retiring they moved to Downs. Betty was a member of the Irving Community Club and Red Hat Ladies Group. She was an active, life long member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Downs. She was baptized and confirmed on May 30, 1937. She was also an active member of the Ladies Aid at the church.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, her husband Meryl, sister Beverly Remus and grandson Kent Cordwell.&nbsp;

Survivors include children; Sheryl (Richard) Cordwell, Berryton, KS, Dennis (Brenda) Schoen Warsaw, MO, Bruce (Debbie) Schoen, Downs, KS, and Janet (Kyle) Tjelmeland, Pagosa Springs, CO. Ten grandchildren; Kim Bradford (fiancé Doug Klise) Berryton, Julie (Tom) Brush, Downs, Jeremy (Megan) Schoen, Olathe, Brady (Megan) Schoen, Downs, Barry (Sylvia) Schoen, Beloit, Brent (Kerry) Schoen, Downs, Keaton (Shayleen) Tjelmeland, Pagosa Springs, CO, Chase (Kelsie) Tjelmeland, Ovderland Park, Miranda Tjelmeland (fiancé Will Mevis) Pagosa Springs, CO, and Courtney (Derek) Pearson, Concordia. Twenty-six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-6 p.m. on Friday October 23rd at the Zion Lutheran Church, Downs. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service at South Oak Creek Cemetery, North of Downs. Masks and social distancing are encouraged. Betty Nadine (Simmelink) Schoen

Paul F. Kaus, 60, of Salina, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020. He was born in Hoxie, Kansas to Frederick J. and Helen (Zerr) Kaus on March 10, 1960. He married Christine L. Pechanec on August 31, 1985 in Timken, Kansas. He graduated from Golden Plains High School, Rexford, in 1978 and then received in his Associate of Science Radiologic Technology degree from Fort Hays State University in 1982.

Paul had a wonderful sense of humor and a passionate love for animals. He and his family raised all sorts of animals on a farm north of Salina. He was very proud to have had one of his llamas go to the petting zoo at Rolling Hills Zoo. He loved fishing, gardening, and being adventurous outdoors. His hard work ethic was instilled in his children, he never missed one of their activities and was very proud of all their achievements. His greatest accomplishments were being a husband, a dad, a grandpa and being able to play and read books to his grandchildren.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Christine, of the home; children, Kaylene Bacon (Cody) of Minneapolis, Trenton Kaus (Haley), of Manhattan, and Tyler Kaus (Lenae), of Wichita; grandchildren, Mallorie, Rylan, Cordell, Canter, and Caroline; mother, Helen, of Colby, KS siblings, Michael Kaus, of Bison, KS, Dona Kulhanek (Shorty), of Colby, KS, Ron Kaus (Charlene), of Colby, KS, Susan Hillebrand (Gary), of Norton, KS, and Kenneth Kaus (Marion), of Fredericksburg, VA.

He is preceded in death by his father, Frederick and sister in law, Lora Kaus.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Ryan Mortuary with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. A private family Rosary will begin at 10:15 a.m. immediately followed by a private family Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Fr. Keith Weber as officiant. Interment will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina, where everyone is welcome.

&nbsp; Leon Harold Peterson, 81, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Monday, October 19th, 2020 suddenly at his residence. Leon was born in rural Falun, KS on July 4, 1939, a son of Arthur Rudolph and Pearl Cecelia (Rupert) Peterson. Leon attended White Rose and Falun grade schools, Falun, Kansas and graduated from Lindsborg High School, Lindsborg, Kansas in 1957. He was a lifetime member of Freemount Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a proud veteran. Through the years Leon was a lifelong farmer and also worked for Certainteed as a supervisor, Tractor Supply as a second key person and Country General as a clerk all in McPherson. Leon was confirmed and a lifetime member of the Freemont Lutheran Church and presently served on the church counsel, American Legion Post 24, McPherson Elk's #502 and was a chairman of Trustees, all in McPherson. Leon enjoyed his farm, cattle, drinking coffee with his good friend Dean Johnson, spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by his siblings, Eugene E. Peterson and his wife Mary Jean, of Lindsborg, Kansas, Bobby E. Peterson, of Lindsborg, Kansas, James R. Peterson and his wife Bernice, of Lindsborg, Kansas, Virginia L.
