Danny E. Echer, 86, of Lucas, Kansas, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at his home in Lucas.

Danny was born on April 10, 1934, in Rural Osborne County, Kansas, the only child of Frank and Sylvia (Florian) Echer. He grew up in Lucas, Kansas, and graduated from Lucas High School in 1952. After high school he served his country by joining the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Ramona Svaty on September 23, 1956 at the Baptist Church in Lucas, Kansas. They lived a full and happy life in Lucas for over 50 years. From this union Danny and Ramona were blessed with two daughters Jill and Joy. Danny & Ramona gave their girls an idyllic childhood, with Sunday dinners at either Grandma-on-the-farm’s house or Grandma-in-town’s house. He worked as a farmer but also worked as a Meat Inspector for 30 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a longtime member of the Lucas United Methodist Church. He enjoyed taking care of his farm, going to sale barn auctions, researching war history and spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.

Surviving family include daughters Jill Vinson of Salina, Kansas, and Joy Echer of New York, New York. Three grandchildren Rachel Camese, Cole VanBlaricon and Olivia Schaan; and three great grandchildren Warrick VanBlaricon, Strattyn Wheeler and Briggs Schaan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Ramona on January 22, 2016.

A graveside service to celebrate Danny’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at the Lucas City Cemetery in Lucas, Kansas. Family and friends can view Danny from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 25th at the Lucas United Methodist Church. The family will greet guests the day of service at the cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Lucas United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
