Francis R. Mendenhall, age 80, entered into rest on Tuesday, February &nbsp;1, 2022 at his residence in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on April 8, 1941 in Concordia, Kansas to Francis M. and Dorothy (Yoder) Mendenhall.

Francis was united in marriage to Patricia E. Burnette on, January 18, 1962 in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on November 4, 1996.&nbsp;&nbsp; To this marriage six children were born, William, Steven, Bryane, Thomas, Erick and Debra.

He later married Loretta Fisher on August 18, 1998 in Concordia, Kansas. She survives of the home in Concordia.

Francis worked as a fence builder for 27 years starting in 1992 and retiring in 2018.&nbsp; He also drove a semi-tractor trailer for pic-pac hauling brick from the Concordia Ceramics brick plant for 10 years.

Francis enjoyed working on cars and doing automotive repairs, welding, remodeling, construction, camping, going to the lake and most of all spending time with family especially his grandchildren.

Francis is survived by his wife Loretta, Concordia; sons William Mendenhall (Lora), Emporia, KS, Steven Mendenhall, Salina, KS, Bryane Mendenhall, McPherson, KS, Erick Mendenhall (Debbie), Topeka, KS; a daughter, Debra Smith, Concordia, KS.; stepchildren Robert Hudson (Molly), OH, Jeff Freed (Amy) Concordia, KS, John Freed (Paula), Lagrange, IN, Terry Peterson, Beloit, KS, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Lelah Kroulik, Wichita, KS and Charlotte Courtney (Earl), Lamar, MO; brother-in-law Joe Maggard, Lamar, MO; Marilyn Mendenhall, Concordia, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Thomas Mendenhall, two brothesr, Clarence Mendenhall, and Marion Mendenhall,&nbsp;six sisters, Dorothy Glisson, Almeda Clingman, JoAnn McCartney, Ella Maggard, Isabel Oliver and infant sister, Carolyn L. Mendenhall.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on, Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.&nbsp; Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. &nbsp;

A Celebration of Life Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Pastor Earl Hale officiating.

Burial will take place at a later time in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

Joyce D. Dechant, 65, Hays, died Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born May 8, 1956, in Hays, the 
daughter of Alfred W. “Fritz” and Dorothy (Honas) Dechant.&nbsp; Joyce was a 
1974 graduate of Marian High School and she received an Associate Degree
 in Data Processing in 1985 and a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies 
in 2011, both from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; She was a licensed 
cosmetologist and worked as an administrative specialist in the Nursing 
Department at Fort Hays State University for over 23 years.&nbsp; She was a 
member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, the pinochle club, 
enjoyed flower gardening and the outdoors, and was a lifelong learner.&nbsp; 
Joyce cherished her family and friends and was a devoted daughter, 
thoughtful sister, caring aunt, and loyal friend.

Survivors include her mother: Dorothy 
Dechant of Hays, a brother: Kenneth Dechant and wife Judy of Salina, 
three sisters: Linda Rohr and husband Allen of Hays, Janice Prater of 
Hays, and Mary Beth Dreiling and husband Bruce of Hays, five nephews, 
five nieces, seven great nephews, seven great nieces, two great-great 
nephews, and two great-great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father and a nephew: Wade Dreiling.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Monday, February 7, 2022, at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic 
Church, with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St.
 Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday 
and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel 
Funeral Home.&nbsp; A combined vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 pm on
 Sunday at the funeral home.&nbsp;

Duane’s life began on October 19, 1933, in Herington. He was the son of Herman and Edna H. (Roehrman) Gentz. Duane was a 1956 graduate of Texas A &amp; M University. He was united in marriage to Karla Cruz Lopez on June 10, 1997. Duane served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve for 30 years. 

He began his professional career as a soil scientist in Liberty, TX with Soil Conservation Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs, then onto Billings, MT, Oklahoma, Alaska Office of Surface Mining in the Department of the Interior, followed by Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and finally, the Denver area. He also spent ten years teaching in San Antonio. 

Duane’s family includes his wife Karla of Castle Rock, children Kristina, Amber, Ida, Iona, and Kaylee. 

He passed away at his home on January 30, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents. 

Duane’s family will gather with friends on Wednesday February 9, 2022, at Yazel Megli Funeral Home in Herington from 1-2 p.m. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home led by Pastor Bill Neuman. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery with military honors following the service.

Vernadell Yarrow, 83, died February 3, 2022, in Clay County, KS.&nbsp; She was born on July 27, 1938, in Clay County, the daughter of Laurence and Clara (Mabie) Slingsby.

Vernadell was raised in the Garfield Center community.&nbsp; She was a graduate of CCCHS Class of 1956.&nbsp; 

Vernadell married Larry Yarrow on April 21, 1957. They made their home and farmed in Clay County.&nbsp; 

She worked at Cody Memorials, C&amp;W Rural Electric. Later, Vernadell worked at KCLY radio station, first as secretary-receptionist and then as the general manager.&nbsp; She also worked at the Hafner Chiropractic office before retiring.&nbsp; 

Vernadell was a member of the First Baptist Church, Union Homemakers EHU, Sunshine Club and Pilot Club, where she served as club president from 1989-1990.&nbsp; 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Valgene Slingsby.

Shirley Fay Snider, 90, of Mankato, passed away January 29, 2022 at the Jewell Co. Hospital.

Shirley Fay Snider was born to Andrew Schuetz and Fay Crotinger in Great Bend Kansas on Feb. 28, 1931. She passed from this earth on January 29, 2022. 

Proceeding her in death were her parents, her brother Glen Schuetz (Dorothy), and sister Margaret Kottwitz (Harold). &nbsp;

She is survived by her sister Lou Ann Millard (John) of Overland Park, KS. She is survived by her children Tim (Rita) Snider of Derby KS, Pete (Mildred) Snider of Milford NH, and Deborah (David) Warne of Mankato KS. She has 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Shirley grew up in Great Bend, Kansas with a multitude of extended family members who enjoyed getting together for any reason or sometimes for no reason at all except to be together. Shirley had a great love of family and celebrations. Her brother Glenn said that he thought Shirley was the one who kept the family together and was the driving force of Memorial Day family reunions held in Great Bend for over 50 years.&nbsp;

Shirley married Vernon R. Snider in a double ring ceremony with her sister, LouAnn and John. &nbsp;Shirley was a faithful minister’s wife and moved with Vernon to all of his 15 ministerial appointments in the United Methodist Church. 

They retired to Mankato, Ks in 1995 and she declared she was never moving again! &nbsp;For many years, she served in many different capacities in the church and held a variety of offices in the local and district units of United Methodist Women. &nbsp;She had a strong faith in God and was devoted to serving others by volunteering to work whenever and where ever needed. &nbsp;She could frequently be found washing dishes after a church dinner or preparing a lesson for UMW and would never complain.

Shirley was also known for her baking talents - especially bread, pies, and cinnamon rolls. They were always requested for church pot lucks and family dinners. She also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, quilt making. She was never one to sit without doing some sort of needlework. Shirley loved sewing quilts for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren for births, graduations, and weddings as long as she was able to do so.&nbsp;

Shirley will forever be remembered for her smile on her face, her kindness to others, her faithfulness to God, and her love of family. She will be missed.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5th, 2022, at 11:00 am, at the Harmony United Methodist Church in Mankato, burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato.

Kenneth Michael Winter, 73, Hillsboro, Kansas passed away February 2, 2022 at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro, Kansas. Kenneth was born February 23, 1948 in Hillsboro, Kansas to Eddie and Pauline (Kew) Winter. He was raised in Hillsboro and attended Hillsboro Elementary, Junior and Hillsboro High schools. He worked for several companies in Hillsboro including AMPI, Coop, Roundup Industries and Hillsboro Industries. He also worked in Wichita, Kansas at Uniflow, which was associated with Hillsboro Industries. Over the years he made many friends among his co-workers and remained friends with them until his death. He was drafted into the Army on November 30, 1967 and served until November 29, 1972. While in the Army he served in Germany as a radioman. Ken married his wife Ruth of Wichita, Kansas, not only once but twice. They were joined together as man and wife for over 44 years. Ken has two daughters: Holly Meier (Mike Cox) of Little River, Kansas and Heidi Luna (Justin) of Hillsboro, Kansas. He is survived by his wife Ruth, daughters Holly Meier and Heidi Luna; brother Terry Winter (Janet of Wichita Kansas; grandchildren Colby Meier (Nichole) of Little River, Kansas, Andrew Meier (Moriah) of Lehigh, Kansas, Ian Jenkins and Kaden Jenkins of Moundridge, Kansas, Adijo Winter of Hillsboro, Kansas; great-granddaughters Joelyn Meier and Raylee Meier of Lehigh, Kansas. Ken enjoyed making trips to his mother’s homeland of England and enjoyed showing his wife England when they traveled there several years ago. He enjoyed watching his daughter play softball, volleyball, basketball and swim meets. He had a special love of music and in his younger days played drums in the Hillsboro Band. Richard Walter Peterson, 98, passed away January 30, 2022 in Lincoln, KS. He was born May 13, 1923 in the Denmark area of Lincoln County to Walter and Mabel (Knudsen) Peterson.

Richard married Ruth Pierce in Hays, KS in 1963. The couple welcomed a child together: daughter, Tawnya. Richard also adopted Ruth’s son, Gary and had a stepson, Larry Gott. After Ruth’s passing in 1991, Richard married Brenda Karstensen Dohe in Denmark, KS on November 25, 2000. 

Richard was a U.S. Army veteran and lifetime member of the Lincoln VFW. He was also an active member of the Denmark Lutheran Church and former Sylvan Unified board member.

Richard is survived by his wife Brenda of Lincoln; daughter Tawnya (J.H.) Seitz of Denmark; grandchildren Alexandrea, Victoria, and Nicholas Feldkamp; stepsons Brian (formerly married to Lori), David (Tina), and Roland (Jonelle) Dohe and Larry Gott; and five stepgrandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Peterson; son Gary Peterson; brother Kenneth Peterson; and sister Kathryn Hall.

Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Hall Chapel, Lincoln with burial following in the Denmark Cemetery.

Lee Eugene Morey was born on January 25, 1940, at the home on the family farm, northeast of Mahaska, Kansas. He was the third child of Ward G. and Retha E. (Alderman) Morey.&nbsp;

Lee graduated in 1958 from Haddam High School. Following high school, he attended Fairbury Junior College. Lee worked for various locations as a butcher as well as an over-the-road trucker. He also owned/operated his own farm for his lifetime.&nbsp;

&nbsp;He was united in marriage to Margaret Joyce Ketterer on September 3, 1960. God gave this marriage four children: Franklin Lee, Dianna Lynn, Donald Lawrence and Margaret Ann.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lee passed away on February 1st, 2022, at his home in Concordia, at the age of 82 years.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his daughter Margaret Ann, his granddaughter Shaylynn Lee Morey,&nbsp;his parents Ward and Retha, sister Margery Strnad, and brother Joseph Ward Morey.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home, son Franklin Morey (Sara) of Hillsboro, daughter Dianna Zukowske (Mark) of Manhattan, son Donald Morey&nbsp;&nbsp;(Monica) of Salina, grandchildren Kashaya Zukowske (Temetrius Robinson), Dermot Morey, Connor Morey, Claire Morey, sister Retha Mae Parrack of Fairbury, nieces, nephews and many friends.&nbsp;

Beverly Marie Coleman, the daughter of Jay Neal and Mabel Marie (Schultz) Neal, was born July 16, 1929 in Marshall County, Kansas and passed away on January 31, 2022 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 15 days.

Beverly’s mother, Mabel, passed away in 1933 when Beverly was 4 ½ years old.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was raised by her grandparents Sophia and Charles Schultz in rural Marshall County, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She attended Blanchville Country Grade School and graduated when she was 12.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She then went to Marysville High School and graduated at the age of 16.&nbsp;

After baccalaureate, she went to her first job in Lincoln, NE at Standard Reliance Insurance Company (started on Monday); On Tuesday, Bev moved back to Marysville.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In the fall of 1945, she went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone in Marysville, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked there until she got married in September of 1948.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She really enjoyed the people and working there and later transferred to Washington Southwestern Bell.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Beverly met Doug Coleman after a football game at the Parkmore Café (a high school hang out) in Marysville.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They were united in marriage on September 25, 1948 at the Washington Christian Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They made their home in Washington, Kansas, moving to Belleville, KS in 2010.

Beverly was a member of the Washington Christian Church, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also helped with the Vacation Bible School for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Washington County Museum, and the CWF at Belleville Central Christian Church.

Beverly enjoyed cooking and collecting antiques.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking, and cooking.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She owned an antique shop in Washington for three years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;When the antique shop closed&nbsp;she worked part-time at the George &amp; Martha Antique Mall in Washington.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also worked at the worked at the Washington County Hospital when her children were in school.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also worked part-time at Farm Bureau Insurance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also enjoyed listening to music and bands and watching Kansas State games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Allen Lee (Velma) Neal, James A. Neal, and Leslie Gene Neal; sister Audrey Naomi (Walter) Ronkar, and daughter-in-law Tami Coleman.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Beverly is survived by her husband Doug Coleman of Belleville, KS;&nbsp; children&nbsp; Douglas D. (Lori) Coleman II of Manhattan, KS,&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles M. Coleman of Wakefield, KS,&nbsp;&nbsp;Jennifer A. (Tom) Jungck of Hastings, NE, and Lisa M. (Jeff) Noland of Belleville, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;10 grandchildren:&nbsp;&nbsp;Scott Coleman, Hayley Bieker, Shannon Kimbrough, Melody Rich, Jed Coleman, Orrin Coleman, Erica Noland, Jessica Rohan, Jamie Thomas, and Jackie Bryce; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law&nbsp; Julie Neal and Barbara Neal; other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Central Christian Church, Belleville, KS with Pastor Jacob Rice officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at the Washington City Cemetery, Washington, Kansas with Pastor Jim Stark, officiating.

Coleman | Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home</a>July 16, 1929 ~ January 31, 2022 (age 92)Beverly Marie Coleman, the daughter of Jay Neal and Mabel Marie (Schultz) Neal, was born July 16, 1929 in Marshall County, Kansas and passed away on January 31, 2022 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 15 days.Beverly’s mother, Mabel, passed away in 1933 when Beverly was 4 ½ years old.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was raised by her grandparents Sophia and Charles Schultz in rural Marshall County, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She attended Blanchville Country Grade School and graduated when she was 12.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She then went to Marysville High School and graduated at the age of 16.&nbsp;After baccalaureate, she went to her first job in Lincoln, NE at Standard Reliance Insurance Company (started on Monday); On Tuesday, Bev moved back to Marysville.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In the fall of 1945, she went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone in Marysville, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked there until she got married in September of 1948.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She really enjoyed the people and working there and later transferred to Washington Southwestern Bell.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beverly met Doug Coleman after a football game at the Parkmore Café (a high school hang out) in Marysville.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They were united in marriage on September 25, 1948 at the Washington Christian Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They made their home in Washington, Kansas, moving to Belleville, KS in 2010.Beverly was a member of the Washington Christian Church, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also helped with the Vacation Bible School for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Washington County Museum, and the CWF at Belleville Central Christian Church.Beverly enjoyed cooking and collecting antiques.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking, and cooking.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She owned an antique shop in Washington for three years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;When the antique shop closed&nbsp;she worked part-time at the George &amp; Martha Antique Mall in Washington.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also worked at the worked at the Washington County Hospital when her children were in school.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also worked part-time at Farm Bureau Insurance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She also enjoyed listening to music and bands and watching Kansas State games.She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Allen Lee (Velma) Neal, James A. Neal, and Leslie Gene Neal; sister Audrey Naomi (Walter) Ronkar, and daughter-in-law Tami Coleman.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beverly is survived by her husband Doug Coleman of Belleville, KS;&nbsp; children&nbsp; Douglas D. (Lori) Coleman II of Manhattan, KS,&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles M. Coleman of Wakefield, KS,&nbsp;&nbsp;Jennifer A. (Tom) Jungck of Hastings, NE, and Lisa M. James’ life began on May 1, 1928, in Florence, KS. He was the son of James Arthur and Edith L. (Drush) Snelling. He was a 1946 graduate of Florence High School. James enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 20, 1946, and served until May 19, 1949, when he left the service as a staff sergeant.

James was united in marriage to the former Luella Beneke on June 6, 1954, in Lincolnville, KS. &nbsp;He worked at the Florence Bulletin before being employed by Trans World Airlines as a customer service and operations agent at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. James' job with TWA allowed the family to travel to many different cities in the U.S. and abroad. The family later moved to Wichita where he worked at Mid-Continent Airport until he retired from TWA in 1985. &nbsp;He then had several part-time jobs until Luella retired.&nbsp;

James enjoyed attending the Florence High School Alumni banquets every year.&nbsp; He was a long-time member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Wichita and served on the church's Commission of Properties, mowing and caring for the lawn well into his 80s. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening (he loved his tomato plants!) and spending time with his family.

James is survived by his children Doranne (Roger) Beavers of Norman, OK, James (Linda) Snelling of Bells, TX, Mark Snelling of Wichita, Brad Snelling of Wichita, and Kay (Ron) Adams of Wichita; grandchildren Zac (Mira) Beavers, Tyler (Lexie) Beavers, and Cody (Christina) Beavers, Kyle (Natalie) Koontz, Cody (Lindsey) Koontz and Rachel Parker; and 15 great-grandchildren. 

James passed away on January 30, 2022, at Wichita Presbyterian Manor. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson Ryan Parker, and siblings John Snelling and Shirley Robinson.

James' family will gather with friends on Sunday February 6, 2022, at Ascension Lutheran Church (842 N. Tyler Road; Wichita) for his funeral service at 2 p.m. with a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence following the service.

Sara Lou Burwell, 83, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 31, in Abilene.

Sara was born in Newton, Kansas on May 29, 1938, a daughter of the late Wayne and Gertrude (Austin) Brainerd.

Sara grew up in Whitewater, Kansas, graduating from Whitewater High School in 1956.

On November 10, 1960, Sara married Willis Lott in Whitewater, Kansas. They shared 22 years of marriage and raised three children in Minneapolis, Kansas.

Sara retired from Bennington State Bank in Bennington, Kansas in 2004.

On June 7, 2002, Sara married Bill Burwell in Abilene, Kansas.

Sara was a member of the Methodist Church throughout her life and enjoyed participating in the choir and playing the bells.

Family was very important to her and she attended as many of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities as possible. She was a regular at high school and college football, volleyball and basketball games.

Survivors include her husband Bill Burwell; daughters Kathy Zuker, of Minneapolis, Kansas, Kelly Lott of Inman, Kansas; son John Lott (Kristen) of Minneapolis, Kansas; stepdaughters Kay Stoddard (Jay) of Wakefield, Kansas, Shelly Pennington (Todd) of Salina, Kansas; 14 grandchildren Christopher (Jayme), Benjamin (Allison), Joseph (Natalie), Andrew (Katherine), Jordyn, Trea (Aspen), Kiley, Bridget (Tyler), Ryan, Eric (Ashley), Casey, Taylor, Cody, Corey; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Sara is also survived by two sisters, Kathryn (LeRoy) of Omaha, Arkansas and Lois Brainerd of Whitewater, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her husband Willis Lott; husband Jack Plunkett; son Wayne Lott; and brother Donald Brainerd.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 4 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 5 at Wilson Family Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating.

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kansas.

Thomas “Tom” David Wilkinson, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS.

Tom was born on March 2, 1941 to Clarence and Mabel Wilkinson. He attended the Kansas School for the Deaf in Olathe, KS and after graduation he moved to Salina. Tom retired from Kansas State University-Salina where he worked as a Custodian for 25 years. He was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

Tom enjoyed painting, drawing and fishing. Tom was a happy person and had a kind and gentle nature. He will be remembered for his cheerful attitude and bright smile.&nbsp;

Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his brother Allen of Overland Park.

A private inurnment will take place in Overland Park. There will not be a service.&nbsp;

Bernice Flaherty Shaffstall, 100, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Lincoln Park Manor, Lincoln, KS. She was born July 4, 1921 in Portis, Osborne County, KS to Louis and Stella (Doane) Pottberg.

Bernice married Paul E. Flaherty in Phoenix, AZ on March 7, 1942. The couple had three sons, Larry, Rich, and Jim. After Paul passed, Bernice married Raymond Shaffstall in Lincoln, KS on October 19, 1996. 

She was an assistant in the doctor’s office and an Avon representative in Lincoln for many years. Bernice enjoyed playing pinochle with all of her life-long friends. She was a member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Bernice is survived by her sons Larry Flaherty (Regina) of Houston, TX and Rich Flaherty (Ricci) of Henderson, NV; daughter-in-law Mona Flaherty of Bixby, OK; grandchildren Pam Straube (Tim), David Flaherty (Katherine), Joe Flaherty (Caroline), Kristin Garrick (Kent), Erin Flaherty (Anne), Shannan McClain (Daniel), and Michael Flaherty (Amanda); and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Megan, Cadel, Zade, Ozlo, Sean, Brian, Brennan, Mason, Ethan, Owen, and Finn. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands Paul Flaherty and Raymond Shaffstall; and son Jim Flaherty.
