Frank G. Spurney Jr. (III), 87 died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at Presbyterian Manor in Salina, KS.

Frank was born in Belleville, KS on August 13, 1934, to Frank and Alice Spurney.

Frank enjoyed growing up in Belleville, KS participating in football, basketball, golf, and band. He graduated from Belleville High School in 1952. Frank attended the University of Kansas where he was a yell leader and a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity; he graduated in 1956 and went on to law school graduating in 1958.

Frank joined the U.S. Airforce and attained the rank of captain as a JAG officer, valuing the time he served for his country in Korea and Laredo, TX. Frank met his wife, Jean while they were both stationed in Laredo, TX. Frank and Jean married on November 25, 1961, in Laredo, TX.

Frank returned to Belleville, KS practicing law with his father, serving as Republic County attorney, both in the 1960’s and 2000’s. Frank enjoyed helping people and serving his community. Frank was instrumental in developing the Belleville Country Club as well as the golf team for Belleville high school. Frank loved watching his children grow up and participate in sporting activities, taking lots of pictures, continuing to take pictures for high school students long after his children graduated.

Frank is survived by his children: Blaine Spurney (Cara) Salina, KS, Blair Rogers (Mark) Wichita, KS, and Blake Spurney (Melody) Newton, KS, grandchildren Arden Rogers and Pierson Rogers. His dearest brother Joe Spurney (Cozette) and many nieces and nephews.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Spurney, Sisters Ellen Joyce Becker and Stella Marie Polansky and his parents, Frank, and Alice Spurney.

Frank was a proud father, grandfather, and a loving man. Frank was a poet and loved writing and sending letters to family and friends. He was a proud Jayhawk graduate and fan and would tell anyone he met.

A celebration of life will be March 26 from 2 – 4 pm at Salina Country Club, Salina, KS. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas, Presbyterian Manor, or the Salina Animal Shelter mailed to Blaine Spurney 122 Overhill Road Salina, KS.
