Organized under the theme "Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy," the celebrations will feature multiple speakers and activities across different venues in Salina.

The events will begin on Sunday, January 19, with a Citywide Celebration at 3 p.m. at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, located at 304 W. Grand Avenue. The program will include presentations by Kirk Holt, Dr. Ralita Cheeks, and Rafael Mendez, focusing on Dr. King's enduring principles and resilience.

On Monday, January 20, activities will start with the Beloved Community Commemorative Service, featuring Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II. This event will be streamed online via Fox 5 Atlanta's website, and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Salina at 901 Beatrice, will host a public viewing. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m., and light refreshments will be provided.

At noon on Jan. 20 a youth-centered celebration will take place at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, 215 S. Chicago Street. The keynote speaker will be Salina native <a href="https://www.roycehaynes.com/pages/about.html">Royce Haynes</a>, Chief Product Officer of Aspect. The event will also feature musical performances by choirs from Salina South and Salina Central High Schools.

The event will conclude at 7 p.m. at Kansas Wesleyan University's Sams Chapel, 100 E. Claflin Avenue, with a keynote address by Kirk Holt of Mansfield, Texas. Holt, a Salina Central graduate and president of the Dunbar School Alumni Association, will share insights from his distinguished career in banking and public service.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension (KSRE) will offer six regional Local Food Producer Workshops to assist farmers’ market vendors and managers, and for those wanting to sell food products directly to consumers.

Kansas farmers’ markets not only provide a fresh food source, but also stimulate the local economy. In 2024, more than 100 farmers’ markets were registered with KDA’s Central Registration of Farmers’ Markets.

“We strive to provide education to Kansas farmers’ markets and agricultural businesses to help them thrive,” said Sammy Gleason, KDA’s&nbsp;From the Land of Kansas&nbsp;manager. “These workshops will support local businesses by providing up-to-date food safety information and new marketing insights for direct consumers.”

“Voice of the Wildcats.” That title belongs to the legendary sportscasters who have broadcast Kansas State University football and basketball games through the years.

Wyatt Thompson is the current and longtime Voice of the Cats, which he especially appreciates because of his roots in rural Kansas. Thompson became Voice of the Wildcats in 2002. He grew up in rural Kansas near Solomon.

Among his interests was livestock judging in high school FFA, which included two elements: One, placing a class of livestock in the desired order; and two, stating oral reasons to a judge to describe the reasons for that placing.

This process required him to make quick judgments and to state his observations articulately and accurately. In a sense, those skills also serve him well as a sportscaster.

Thompson continued livestock judging at Colby Community College but found himself drawn to sports broadcasting. He made the change. In 1976, he began his career, spending time at radio stations in Great Bend and Abilene. He was recognized with the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Play-by-Play Award in 1982.

From 1985 until 1989, Thompson worked at KAYS in Hays where he was the play-by-play voice at Fort Hays State. He won the Oscar Stauffer Sportscaster of the Year Award in 1989.

Then Thompson moved to Denver. He was the play-by-play voice for Colorado State's football and men's basketball teams for five years. In addition to his duties at CSU, Thompson was also a sports reporter on radio and host of the Countdown to Kickoff show for the Denver Broncos.

Thompson won the Colorado Broadcasting Association award for best play-by-play announcer in 2000.

In 2002, he moved to K-State to become the Voice of the Wildcat, a position he still holds today. In doing so, he followed in the footsteps of legendary broadcasters who have previously served as Voice of the Wildcats:&nbsp;Dev Nelson, Mitch Holthus, Steve Physioc and Greg Sharpe.

Today, Thompson is senior director of broadcasting for the K-State Athletic Department as well as Voice of the Wildcats. He&nbsp;serves as host of the Chris Klieman and Jerome Tang coaches’ shows on television and radio. In addition, he is heavily involved in various Catbacker Club, alumni and athletic department functions, frequently serving as a keynote speaker.

In an era of NIL -- Name, Image, Likeness -- and the transfer portal, it seems remarkable that he is observing local players from Kansas making an impact for their home state team. 

For example, in football, he sees Sam Hecht from Shawnee snap the ball to Avery Johnson, who went to Maize, who then might hand off the ball to Dylan Edwards from Wichita or D.J. Giddens from Junction City – and they just might be led by a block from Hadley Panzer of Lakin.

An estimated 55 Kansans are on the K-State football roster – far more than any other state.

It is especially exciting to see such in-state talent perform well. According to the K-State athletic department, since 1990 K-State’s all-conference selections have come from 37 cities in Kansas.

“I love broadcasting K-State sports for so many reasons,” Thompson said. “At the top of the list would be the amazing coaches and players that I get to work with daily.”

He also relishes the game day experience. “You can just feel the excitement for each game, and the love this fan base has for Kansas State University and the Cats,” Thompson said.

Thompson won the Hod Humiston Award for sports broadcasting from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in 2011. Over the course of his career, Thompson has been named the Kansas Sportscaster of the Year six times. He ranks second all-time among K-State broadcasters in awards won, and fourth all-time among broadcasters in the state of Kansas.

In 2022 he was inducted into the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

It's an impressive record for a farm kid from the rural community of Solomon, population 993 people. Now, that’s rural.

Voice of the Wildcats. We commend Wyatt Thompson for making a difference by sharing the excitement of Power 4 football and basketball with fans across Kansas and beyond. We’re always thankful to hear his voice.

He grew up in rural Kansas near Solomon.Among his interests was livestock judging in high school FFA, which included two elements: One, placing a class of livestock in the desired order; and two, stating oral reasons to a judge to describe the reasons for that placing.This process required him to make quick judgments and to state his observations articulately and accurately. In a sense, those skills also serve him well as a sportscaster.Thompson continued livestock judging at Colby Community College but found himself drawn to sports broadcasting. He made the change. In 1976, he began his career, spending time at radio stations in Great Bend and Abilene. He was recognized with the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Play-by-Play Award in 1982.From 1985 until 1989, Thompson worked at KAYS in Hays where he was the play-by-play voice at Fort Hays State. He won the Oscar Stauffer Sportscaster of the Year Award in 1989.Then Thompson moved to Denver. He was the play-by-play voice for Colorado State's football and men's basketball teams for five years. In addition to his duties at CSU, Thompson was also a sports reporter on radio and host of the Countdown to Kickoff show for the Denver Broncos.Thompson won the Colorado Broadcasting Association award for best play-by-play announcer in 2000.In 2002, he moved to K-State to become the Voice of the Wildcat, a position he still holds today. In doing so, he followed in the footsteps of legendary broadcasters who have previously served as Voice of the Wildcats:&nbsp;Dev Nelson, Mitch Holthus, Steve Physioc and Greg Sharpe.Today, Thompson is senior director of broadcasting for the K-State Athletic Department as well as Voice of the Wildcats. He&nbsp;serves as host of the Chris Klieman and Jerome Tang coaches’ shows on television and radio. In addition, he is heavily involved in various Catbacker Club, alumni and athletic department functions, frequently serving as a keynote speaker.In an era of NIL -- Name, Image, Likeness -- and the transfer portal, it seems remarkable that he is observing local players from Kansas making an impact for their home state team. For example, in football, he sees Sam Hecht from Shawnee snap the ball to Avery Johnson, who went to Maize, who then might hand off the ball to Dylan Edwards from Wichita or D.J. Giddens from Junction City – and they just might be led by a block from Hadley Panzer of Lakin.An estimated 55 Kansans are on the K-State football roster – far more than any other state.It is especially exciting to see such in-state talent perform well. According to the K-State athletic department, since 1990 K-State’s all-conference selections have come from 37 cities in Kansas.“I love broadcasting K-State sports for so many reasons,” Thompson said. “At the top of the list would be the amazing coaches and players that I get to work with daily.”He also relishes the game day experience. “You can just feel the excitement for each game, and the love this fan base has for Kansas State University and the Cats,” Thompson said.Thompson won the Hod Humiston Award for sports broadcasting from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in 2011. Over the course of his career, Thompson has been named the Kansas Sportscaster of the Year six times. He ranks second all-time among K-State broadcasters in awards won, and fourth all-time among broadcasters in the state of Kansas.In 2022 he was inducted into the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.It's an impressive record for a farm kid from the rural community of Solomon, population 993 people. If you’ve been to the grocery store since the new year you may have noticed that state sales tax on grocery items dropped to 0%.

In 2022, the Kansas Legislature passed a bill that gradually eliminated the sales tax on groceries, with final elimination on January 1, 2025.

To many, tax cuts represent a meaningful win for Kansas, but it also brings with it tough questions about the future of state revenue and services.

According to the 2022 legislation, State General Funds will take a $437.1 million hit this year and $526.2 million hit in 2026 due to the sales tax elimination.

This dilemma highlights the complexities of reducing taxes.

Most Kansans will celebrate the lessened burden on their bank accounts after visiting the grocery store, but in the same breath expect the same level of government services.

Our state is familiar with this dilemma after Governor Brownback’s deep income tax cuts in 2012 and 2013 — widely known as the “Kansas experiment”.

To be clear, there are important differences between Brownback’s income tax cuts, which primarily benefited the wealthiest Kansans, and eliminating sales tax on food, which spreads the benefits more equitably among Kansans. But the same dilemma remains.

Government services don’t exist in a vacuum. They cost money, and usually are paid for through tax revenue.

To add to this dilemma, the state legislature passed a tax reduction bill in 2024 that is expected to cut about $1.2 billion over three years from income and property taxes, and many state legislators have said that further property tax cuts are a top priority for the 2025 legislative session.

While on the surface, tax cuts seem to be a boon for Kansas families, the potential reduction in state revenue raises the question: what sacrifices might be required to maintain essential government services? Will this lead to cuts in education funding, infrastructure projects, or public safety budgets?

Lessons from the past, such as the “Kansas experiment”, remind us of the major risks that come from enacting tax cuts without a sustainable plan. Under Brownback’s cuts, the state’s revenues plummeted and led to major cuts to education, infrastructure, and other vital services.

Kansans have a lot to gain from the elimination of the grocery sales tax and other tax cuts, but they also have a lot to lose if the state’s financial future is not managed responsibly.

 The reality is clear: every dollar saved via tax cuts is a dollar no longer available to fund schools, roads, public safety, and healthcare. The question isn’t whether these tax cuts are beneficial in the short term — most Kansans would agree they are — but whether the state has a plan to sustain the services that keep our communities strong.

As we move forward, we must learn from the past. The Brownback tax experiment serves as a cautionary tale, reminding us that poorly planned tax policies can do more harm than good. Kansans deserve transparency and accountability from their leaders about how these cuts will impact the state budget and the quality of life for all residents.

The elimination of the grocery sales tax offers relief, but it also requires vigilance. Kansans should demand a balanced approach — one that ensures tax relief without sacrificing the future of our state.

GOP congressman’s agenda includes gun rights, sports and crime

TOPEKA — U.S. Rep. Tracey Mann stands as an absolutist on deporting immigrants in the U.S. illegally who engaged in criminal activity, but he prefers to temper enthusiasm for a federal crackdown that would unnecessarily weaken the state’s agriculture economy.

Mann, a Republican who easily won reelection in November to a third term in Congress, said the porous national border was a crisis that warranted aggressive action to stem the tide of millions of unauthorized immigrants. The quest to fortify the U.S. border was a fundamental issue in the 2024 election and results demonstrated voters’ eagerness to address longstanding problems of unauthorized immigration, he said.

He said rooting out people in the U.S. without authorization who are engaged in criminal activity, including drug and human trafficking, should be a priority in the administration of President-elect Donald Trump.

In addition, Mann said, Congress had to proceed with development of policies that protected the U.S. farm economy and other industries reliant on legally procured immigrant workers.

“We’ve got to have an immigration policy, instead of the current chaos we have, that’s orderly,” Mann said in an interview with Kansas Reflector. “We can declare and vet the people we want to come into the country, then legally allow them to do that.”

He said businesses in the massive 1st District of Kansas wanted less bureaucracy and more certainty in federal laws and regulations on issuance of permits to temporary immigrant workers. To ignore challenges of companies drawn to that supplemental labor force would be foolish, he said.

“It’s a slap in the face to people — the men and women — who have gone through the strung-out process. They do it the right way,” Mann said.

Mann said he was pleased a bipartisan majority in the U.S. House approved the Laken Riley Act, which honored a college student murdered by an immigrant from South America who had previously been cited for shoplifting in the United States.

The bill forwarded to the U.S. Senate would mandate federal detention of undocumented immigrants accused of theft and other lower-level offenses pending legal proceedings. The legislation raised due-process concerns regarding incarceration of more individuals accused rather than convicted of crime.

Immigrants lacking documentation to legally be in the United States who commited a criminal offense in this country should be deported, the congressman said.

Mann said he voted for a bill approved by the U.S. House that would prohibit people designated as male at birth from participating in athletic programs designated for girls or women. The measure would define gender under the Title IX federal civil rights law based on “genetics and biology” rather than “identity,” he said.

“The overwhelming majority of folks in the 1st District of Kansas would say that women should be in women’s sports. Boys should be in boys’ sports. Boys should not be playing girls’ sports,” Mann said.

In Kansas, officials in the past reported a few transgender students had taken part in cheerleading programs. In 2023, the Republican-led Legislature overrode Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto to place in state law a ban on transgender athletes joining girls’ and women’s sports programs from kindergarten through college.

Kelly said such legislation was about partisan politics rather than welfare of Kansans, and the statutory prohibitions would harm the mental health of her constituents.

However, Mann said Democrats in Washington, D.C., had “caved to radical activists under the false guises of ‘equity’ and ‘inclusion’ over fairness” to females who were “robbed of scholarships and accolades” that could be earned through athletics.

In the interview, Mann praised introduction of a House bill that would create a national reciprocity law for carriers of concealed weapons who maintained a state license. It would, for example, allow Kansas permit holders to travel across state lines without fear of running afoul of statutes on concealed firearms in conflict with Kansas’ law.

“A lot of people in my district are talking about this,” Mann said. “A lot of people are frustrated.”

Mann, a former lieutenant governor, represents the Big First district stretching from the Colorado border across the state to Douglas County in eastern Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1994 Ford Ranger driven by Robert D.&nbsp;Hoffert, 32, Mankato, was westbound on 140th Road approximately three miles west of U.S. 281

The pickup entered the south ditch, traveled off the south side of the bridge, overturned in midair and struck the west side bank, coming to rest on its roof.

EMS transported Hoffert to the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

Salina Police Department (SPD) officers are investigating a shooting that occurred early Friday morning in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1600 block of South Ninth Street.

According to Salina Police Captain James Feldman, officers responded to Salina Regional Health Center at approximately 1 a.m. after a 25-year-old Salina man arrived with a gunshot wound to his arm. The injury was determined to be non-life-threatening, but the victim was transferred to a Wichita hospital for surgery.

According to SPD, the victim gave a ride to, “an unidentified Black male with dreadlocks.” The victim told officers he was not familiar with the individual, who he had picked up from a residence in north Salina. During the ride, the two began arguing. Feldman said it is unclear at this time what started the argument. The dispute escalated when the passenger allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim. The shooter then fled the scene on foot.

The shooting allegedly occurred in the parking lot of the Quick Shop at 1600 South Ninth Street. Police are actively investigating and are seeking witnesses or additional information.

Charges for the suspect, if apprehended, could range from aggravated battery to attempted homicide, depending on the circumstances uncovered during the investigation.

The Kansas Attorney General's Office defines human trafficking as "based on recruiting, harboring and/or transporting people solely for exploitation."&nbsp; As we observe Human Trafficking Prevention Month this January, Saline County residents must understand that our state is not immune to this crisis. As community members, we all have a role to play in recognizing the signs, preventing exploitation, and supporting survivors.&nbsp;In this article, we'll explore the scope of human trafficking in Kansas, identify who's at risk, and learn how we can work together to combat this issue in Saline County and beyond.

With its central location and network of interstate highways, Kansas has unfortunately become a significant originating state for human trafficking. The United States Department of Justice defines an originating state as the location from which human trafficking stems. This hidden crime exploits vulnerable individuals, particularly youth and those in rural areas, for forced labor or commercial sex.&nbsp; Both Wichita and Kansas City have been recognized as major originating cities for human trafficking [1]. The vast rural areas in Western Kansas are also conducive to human trafficking for forced labor on farms and in food processing plants [1].

There's an estimated 2,300 juvenile victims of commercial sexual exploitation annually in Kansas [1].&nbsp; Approximately 400 adult victims of commercial sexual exploitation annually [1].&nbsp; Around 300 estimated annual victims of labor exploitation [1].&nbsp; Since its inception, the National Human Trafficking Hotline has identified 808 cases of human trafficking in Kansas [4].&nbsp; 1,536 victims were identified in these cases [4].

The Human Trafficking Hotline has received 2,980 signals from Kansas since its inception [4].&nbsp; Forced commercial sexual exploitation generated $173 billion in illegal profits annually [11]

Runaways are particularly vulnerable to trafficking. As an example, Officers in the Wichita-Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Child Unit report that sex traffickers often pick up runaways within 48 hours of their being on the streets and transport them to either Dallas or Chicago within 72 hours [1]. In 2009, there were 4,735 runaway children cases reported to law enforcement in Kansas [1]. According to World's Children, minors make up 27% of victims, and of those children, 66% are girls.&nbsp;

Unfortunately, data does not reflect a completely accurate picture of who is vulnerable. According to the U.S. Department of State's 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report, research has shown that men and boys are less likely to self-identify as victims of human trafficking due to the significant risk of stigma and shame associated with reporting, while the lack of resources for male victims also remains an important barrier.&nbsp;

While Wichita and Kansas City have some specialized law enforcement units addressing the problem, the vast majority of Kansas remains vulnerable ground for human traffickers [1]. A 2009-2010 survey of Kansas officers revealed a perceived need for training on various aspects of human trafficking, including current laws, identifying cases, investigation methods, and understanding victims' rights.

The Kansas Attorney General's Office collaborates with universities such as Wichita State University's Center for Combating Human Trafficking (WSU CCHT) to address the issue [5]. &nbsp;The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Kansas City office is actively working to combat human trafficking in the region [6]. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 "equipped the U.S. Government with new tools and resources to mount a comprehensive and coordinated campaign to eliminate modern forms of slavery domestically and internationally," according to the U.S. Department of Justice. It also established three pillars in the fight: protection, prevention, and prosecution [11]. The United States' Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons publishes a Trafficking in Persons (TIP)&nbsp;Report annually. It is the world's most comprehensive resource for governmental anti-trafficking efforts [11].&nbsp; Local law enforcement agencies, such as the Salina Police Department, are committed to combating human trafficking [7].

Learn the signs of human trafficking.. Take action by joining non-profit organizations like&nbsp;<a href="http://OurRescue.org">OurRescue.org</a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href="http://SaveTheChildren.org">SaveTheChildren.org</a> Support local non-profit organizations, like&nbsp;DVACK (Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas). Report potential cases of human trafficking to local authorities or the <a href="https://humantraffickinghotline.org/en">National Human Trafficking Hotline</a>.

Human trafficking has severe consequences for its victims, often involving physical and sexual abuse. Service providers in Kansas report that both sex and labor trafficking involve high degrees of violence [3]. Victims may experience trauma, poverty, and various health issues as a result of their exploitation.

Human trafficking remains a pressing issue in Kansas, affecting both urban and rural areas. While efforts are being made to combat this crime, there is still a significant need for increased awareness, training, and resources to address the problem and support victims effectively.

RICO — January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

&nbsp;By SALINA POST Salina Police Department officers are investigating the theft of equipment from a storage trailer at Ferco Rental, located at 264 N. Broadway Avenue in Salina.&nbsp;

According to SPD Capt. James Feldman, the business reported on Jan. 15 that unknown person(s) accessed a storage trailer on the property and removed multiple items between Jan. 5, 2025, and Jan. 13, 2025. The stolen items included a generator, a Stihl hot saw, and 500 feet of ¾-inch copper welding leads, with a total estimated loss of $3,600.

No signs of forced entry or damage to the trailer were reported.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Salina Police Department.

MANHATTAN —&nbsp;Farmers and ranchers from across Kansas gathered in Manhattan Jan. 10-12 for the annual Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&amp;R) leaders conference. Nearly 500 attended the three-day Kansas Farm Bureau conference designed to provide educational and networking opportunities for young growers in Kansas.

The conference provided farmers and ranchers between the ages of 18-35 with agricultural education, motivational speakers and opportunities to connect with industry resources and network with peers.

Attendees heard from Jordy Nelson, a former K-State star receiver and Super Bowl XLV champion with the Green Bay Packers, and Dan Thomson, a feedlot veterinarian and CEO of Production Animal Consultation who founded “Doc Talk” on RFD TV.

State committee members from each of the 10 Kansas Farm Bureau districts planned and hosted the conference, which included workshops, speakers, tours and competitions. The YF&amp;R state committee played an integral part in making this year’s conference a success.Winners of the conference competitions include the following:

Graham received $500 and an expense-paid trip to the 2025 American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) YF&amp;R Leadership Conference in Denver, Colo. McMillen and Leffler each received $700 and will represent Kansas in their respective competitions at the 2026 AFBF Annual Convention in Anaheim, Calif.

Destiny Johnson, Stafford County, received the inaugural Rural Minds Matter Young Advocate of the Year award for her work cultivating resilience and well-being among farmers, ranchers and rural communities.&nbsp;

The investigation is active, and no arrests have been made at this time, Feldman said. According to witnesses officers were seen approaching a residence with rifles drawn.

SPD SWAT team conducts operation on South Chicago Street in Salina

Kansas Democratic Party TOPEKA — First, Senate President Ty Masterson (R-Andover) banned the free press from the Senate Chamber floor and now, as reported by the <a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2025/01/13/kansas-house-speaker-bans-reporters-from-chamber-floor-doesnt-say-why/">Kansas Reflector</a>, his counterpart in the House, Speaker Dan Hawkins (R-Wichita) is doing the same and forcing the press off the floor of the House Chamber.

Reporters and other media will no longer be allowed access to a designated workstation on either chamber floor and instead must observe and report from the public gallery. 

This move comes on the heels of <a href="http://honest">Senate Democratic Leader’s Dinah Sykes’ recent op-ed</a> highlighting Republican leadership’s efforts to hide their true priorities: “With their supermajority, Republican politicians have promised paybacks for the ultra-rich, big corporations and out-of-state interests trying to impose their will on our state.”

 “Very few things that are good, right or well-intentioned are done in the dark,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass.

 “Our free press and media provide a light on our politics and our lawmakers. It is disgraceful and disrespectful to Kansans to have this assault on the free press in our state capitol. What are Republicans trying to hide from the people who they are supposed to represent?,” said Repass.

 The Kansas Democratic Party calls on Speaker Dan Hawkins to reverse this disturbing measure to suppress the media and reporters immediately. 

As the 2025 legislative session moves into its first full week, Republicans must allow the citizens of Kansas to have access to the people whom we have entrusted as our representatives as they make the laws that impact our lives.&nbsp;

Kansas Democratic Party: 'Republicans intent on hiding their actions from Kansas public'

Submitted U.S.&nbsp;Department of Agriculture (USDA) Director for Kansas Rural Development Christy Davis today announced that&nbsp;Rural Development&nbsp;is funding&nbsp;54&nbsp;projects&nbsp;to&nbsp;generate clean energy&nbsp;and improve energy efficiency in Kansas.&nbsp;The&nbsp;$5,883,731&nbsp;in&nbsp;investments&nbsp;aremade&nbsp;through the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.rd.usda.gov/programs-services/energy-programs/rural-energy-america-program-renewable-energy-systems-energy-efficiency-improvement-guaranteed-loans">Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).</a>

“Expanding clean energy production benefits working families and small businesses in Kansas,” Davis said. “These projects are strengthening our energy independence and helping rural small businesses take control of their energy needs.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Estimated to replace 851,805 kWh annually, enough to power 78 homes.	2.	Bravo Charlie Properties LLC (Salina) - A $57,824 grant for a 29 kW solar system. Estimated to generate 39,377 kWh per year, powering three homes.	3.	American Hotels LLC (Salina) - A $78,740 grant for a 74.2 kW solar system. Expected to replace 112,273 kWh annually, powering 10 homes.	4.	McShares Inc. (Salina) - A $450,000 grant for a 450 kW solar array. Estimated to replace 618,961 kWh per year, powering 57 homes.	5.	HABCO Inc. (Salina) - A $122,500 grant for a 140 kW solar array. Estimated to replace 182,785 kWh annually, powering 16 homes.	6.	I &amp; I Enterprise LLC (Salina) - A $215,000 grant for 84 kW and 100 kW solar arrays. Estimated to replace 201,943 kWh annually, enough to power 19 homes.	7.	Schwartz Farms Inc. (Longford) - A $90,388 grant to replace heat lamps with heat mats. Expected to save 202,326 kWh annually, powering 18 homes.
