Flags have been directed to be flown at half-staff across the state in honor of a volunteer Greeley County firefighter, who died during a training exercise.

Governor Laura Kelly made the announcement on Wednesday for the order to take place on Friday, April 17 from sunup to sundown.

Carl Levi Evans died on April 8, 2026 at the age of 42, after suffering a medical problem during training.

Evans was a volunteer for the Greeley County Fire & Rescue team.

The Minneola Fire Department posted on Facebook a memorial fund to support his wife and two sons.
