Arthur “Art” E. Nilson, 82, of Gypsum, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, surrounded by family at his home.&nbsp; Art was a retired dairy farmer.

Art was born on November 21, 1940, in Salina, KS, the son of Emanuel Oscar and Augusta Grace (Schwarz) Nilson.&nbsp; On February 1, 1964, Art was united in marriage to Mary Anna Machetta.

Survivors include: his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Anna Nilson of the home; a son, David Nilson of Gypsum, KS; three siblings, Eugene (Judy) Nilson of Gypsum, KS, Dorothy (Richard) Eppler of Paola, KS, and Joan (Walter) Arrasmith of Lindsborg, KS; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way; and many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel T. “Dan” Nilson; a daughter, Tasha D. Trout; and granddaughter, Effie Grace Trout.

In accordance with Art’s wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Kansas School of Medicine.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marian Arlene LeBlanc, 82, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Holiday Resort, Salina.Marian was born in Waldo, Kansas on February 7, 1941, a daughter ofMinnie Kathryn (Lewis) and Harry Adelbert Clow.She was an Airman 1st Class in the United States Air Force for 6 years and was very proud to be a woman Veteran.

On December 3, 1962, Marian married James E. LeBlanc in Denver, Colorado at the Lowry Air Force Base.She was a weather observer for the Air Force and was a home health aide for the elderly.

Marian loved gardening, woodworking, reading, crocheting, knitting and the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival.

Linda Jean Mowery-Denning, 74, of Salina, KS, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023.

Linda was born April 8, 1949, in Kansas City, MO. She was raised by her parents, Ralph S. Mowery and Veora Mowery in Bluffton, Indiana. She married Peter Alan Denning of Salina on September 4, 1982.

Linda graduated from Ball State University and eventually made her way to Salina in the 1970s where she began her journalism career with the Salina Journal. She was with the Salina Journal for 26 years before she left to begin the Ellsworth County Independent, now the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter. She semi-retired in 2022, but she continued to write and report for the newspaper as well as her start-up magazine, The Magazine, a publication focused on Saline County and Northcentral Kansas.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her loving parents and in-laws, Art and Winnie Denning; and her brother-in-law, Jim Carrigan. She is survived by her two children, Matthew Denning of Salina and Allyn ‘Allie’ Denning of Lawrence. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in law, Diane Carrigan of Salina, Russ and Renee Denning of Overland Park, David and Ginger Denning of Manhattan, and her many nieces and nephews.

Nicolette Lynn Unruh-Uhl, 36, passed away on November 3, 2023, near Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on October 25, 1987, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Dale and Bernadette “Berny” (Pachta) Unruh. 

On October 15, 2022, she married Nathan “Nate” Uhl at the Unruh Family Farm. They had been working on remodeling a big, beautiful home near Manhattan, along with the son she gained, Tristen.

Survivors include her husband of the home; stepson, Tristen Uhl of Manhattan, Kansas; parents, Dale and Berny Unruh of Great Bend, Kansas; two brothers, Adam Unruh of Pawnee Rock, and Grant Unruh of Carleton, Nebraska; a sister, Danette Unruh of Esbon; grandmothers, Wynona Unruh of Great Bend and Carol Pachta of Belleville; in-laws, Bobby and Patricia Uhl of Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Grant Olin Unruh and Edward Pachta.

John H. Doidge February 3, 1958 ~ October 28, 2023

John H, Doidge age 65, of Lebo, KS, passed away on October 28, 2023, at Advent Health Ottawa.

John was born February 3, 1958, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Harold Doidge and Anna (Denich) Doidge. John graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, Catskill, NY, with the class of 1976.

Following graduating, John served his country in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1981, attaining the rank of Missile Tech 3rd class. He received the Strategic Deterrent Patrol Insignia with two gold stars, a pistol expert ribbon with a bronze star, and a submarine insignis silver star.

John began working at Wolf Creek Generating Station in February of 1989, beginning in the Instrumentation and Control Department until moving to the Training Department and ending his working career as an outage operation scheduler, retiring in December of 2018.

John was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Knights of Columbus, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa. He was an active and avid volunteer for Franklin County Cancer Foundation and volunteered at Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, as well as spending many hours aiding in the conservation efforts of many different entities.&nbsp;

John was very well known by his family and friends for having more hobbies than the regular person. He loved to go fishing, trapping, and hunting, which was a favorite pastime. It would be easy to say John was an avid outdoorsman spending time collecting Heritage Breed birds, planting thousands of trees on his farm and working every so often on his self-named deer sanctuary.

His time-consuming hobbies were beekeeping and collecting his honey, joining the Northeast Kansas Beekeepers Association, woodworking, and his new love for Cycling. Regardless of the hobby or project, it was rare to find John without his sidekicks, Tilly and Roxy, his Jack Russell terriers that he loved dearly.&nbsp; John also loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by Teresa Doidge; four children, Jamie Schepp and her husband, Eric of Melbourne, FL; Rebecca Doidge and her husband Matthew, Water Vliet, NY; Curtis Smith, DeSoto, KS, Jessica Doidge, Lebo, KS; sister, Mary Rosenburg and her husband Ron, Melbourne, FL; four grandchildren, Natalie Seeley, Abriana Keith, Avery Schepp, Julia Schepp; two great-grandchildren, Alayna and Jameson.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Anna Doidge.

Arleta B. (White) Carlton September 16, 1929 ~ November 2, 2023

Arleta B. (White) Carlton passed away on November 2, 2023, at the age of 94. She was born September 16, 1929, to Earl and Velma White, Glen Elder, Kansas.

After graduating from Glen Elder High School, having earned a teaching degree, she taught grades 1-8 in a one-room school house.

On August 8, 1948, she married Gerold D. Carlton in Glen Elder, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union, six children were born: Lavona, Lesa, Leila, Loeta, Lucille, and Roy Jon.&nbsp; At the time of Gerold’s passing, they had been married for 61 years.&nbsp;

Arleta loved horses and enjoyed trail and buggy rides. In addition to that, she enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling with her mother and sisters and working on genealogy. They always enjoyed telling the stories of their travels.&nbsp;

After living for a short period of time in Glen Elder and Formoso, Gerold and Arleta settled on the farm north of Jewell.

Arleta is preceded in death by her husband Gerold, two children, Lavona and Roy Jon, her parents, siblings Robert, Lois, Richard, Alice, and son-in-law Dale Wright.&nbsp;

She is survived by daughters Lesa (Jerry) Houston, Leila (Dennis) Becker, Loeta Bazo, and Lucille (Steve) Black, several grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and friends.&nbsp;

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, Kansas.

Funeral services will be on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Jewell Christian Church with Pastor Dan Daniels officiating.&nbsp;

Burial will follow at Wallace Cemetery Jewell, Kansas.

Julie Slater, 62, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on November 5, 2022. She was born on January 30, 1960, to parents Calvin “Rex” and Sonia (Warren) DeRusseau.

She grew up in Clyde, Kansas and attended school there until transferring to Clifton for her senior year. She went on to attend LPN school in Beloit and then RN school at Cloud County Community College.

Julie used her RN degree in nursing homes, working at Park Villa in Clyde, Kansas and Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas.

She loved animals, especially cats. The first cat she had was a Siamese named Tinkerbell. She also had a registered Persian named Missy. She loved kids and traveling. In her younger years, she was described as a hippy, loving long hair and bellbottoms. She had a special relationship with her Grandma Goldie.&nbsp;

Julie is survived by her son, Jeremy (Shandi) Slater; grandchildren, Madison Knox, Maison Slater, and Mia Slater; mother, Sonia DeRusseau; brother, Marc DeRusseau (Kayleen); nephew, Beau DeRusseau (Mollie); niece Danielle Lambert (Michael); great-nephews, Kane Lambert and Deacon Lambert; and uncle Brad Warren (Kathy).

She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin “Rex” DeRusseau, and grandparents, Jule and Goldie DeRusseau and LaVerne and Marie Warren.

Joan Ruth White, 82, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, in Wilson, KS. She was born July 27, 1941 in Ellsworth, KS to Earl and Helen (Katzenmeier) Durr. A longtime resident of Holyrood, KS, Joan was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and a home health care provider. After the passing of her first husband, Richard Dale Zorn, she married Weldon White. 

Joan is survived by her sons, Richard Zorn, Jr. and wife Kellie of Chase, KS, David White of Texas, and Scott White and wife Teri of Ellinwood, KS; grandchildren, Jennifer Zorn, Heather Jeffery and husband Roman, Steven Zorn, Kylee and Braxton White, Donnie White, Sheila Pitchford and husband Josh, and Dylan White; and great-grandchildren, Koralie, Lincoln, Kallen, Lakyn, Auroura, and Kinsleigh. Dustin A. Petty August 7, 1979 ~ November 2, 2023

Dustin A. Petty, 44, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2023, in Ellsworth County. He was born August 7, 1979, in Topeka, KS, to Randall Joe and Carman (Flott) Petty. He met Kayla Maze in July of 2014. After enjoying 5 years together, they were united in marriage in Ellsworth on July 5, 2019. 

Dustin had a larger-than-life personality. He put his heart into anything and everything he did. If he set his mind to something, you could be sure it was going to be done big and loud. He was an incredibly proud father and husband and had a heart almost as big as his appetite. 

Dustin would give the shirt off his back to anyone and was a wonderful and dependable friend to so many. He could never be sent to the store if an ingredient was urgently needed as he’d get sidetracked and eventually end up back at home without the item, but instead with 3 camels and a horse that he had somehow managed to barter for with someone who crossed his path! 

He had a passion for Harleys and dreamt of owning one someday. In July, he made his dream a reality and spent many evenings enjoying the open air on his very first one. He also loved hunting, although recently admitted, “Maybe it’s not my thing,” when he continually missed his “lopsided buck,” usually only by minutes, according to his game cams. 

However, he loved the peace and quiet of nature, clearing his head and being still while waiting on the “big one.” To sum him up, Dustin was one of a kind. He had many friends and family whom he loved fiercely and will be painfully missed by everyone he’s touched in his short lifetime. 

Dustin is survived by his wife Kayla of Ellsworth; children, Joseph Petty, Jacob Maze, Brayden Rodriguez, Finley Petty, and Hazel Petty; mother, Carman Allen (James) of Holton, KS; sister Karra Petty (Hannah) of Overland Park, KS; twin brother, Dallas Joe Petty (Melissa) of Leonardville, KS; several nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends that he considered family. He was preceded in death by his father, Randall. 

A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 1 p.m., at High Jinks Rec Club in Ellsworth.

Gordon Dale Strunk March 24, 1928 ~ October 27, 2023

Gordon Dale Strunk was born March 24, 1928, south of Abilene, Kansas. He was welcomed into God’s arms, passing away peacefully on October 27, 2023, at home in Talmage, Kansas. 

He spent his boyhood years in the New Basel community, attending rural schools and graduating from Abilene High School in 1946. Upon graduation, Gordon embarked on a lifetime of work centered around agriculture, such as farming and livestock feed sales. 

He was a talented motor grader operator and timber logger, skills he passed on to his sons and grandsons. He retired at age 85. After retirement, he enjoyed listening to the songbirds, watching baseball and rodeo on TV, sitting on the screened porch in the summer, near the wood stove in the winter, frequent visits with neighbors, and daily afternoon refreshments. 

Not much of a traveler, Dickinson County was his world. As long as he could see the prairie’s horizon, that was all the vacation he needed. If you knew Gordon, you heard him sing. He sang every single day! He had a song in his heart and an appropriate one for every occasion, usually old hymns, country western, or American standards. If a song came to mind, he sang it out! 

As Dad to seven, fatherhood came naturally to Gordon. He guided with advice like, “We’ll know more come the 4th of July”, “nothing that a little Sunday School won’t cure”, “Pay Attention!” and often, “Put a smile on your face!” Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Ella, first wife Margaret, infant grandson Christopher Loftus, and his best friend and brother-in-law, Delmar Curran. 

He is survived by DeAnne, his devoted wife of 54 years; his sister Rosella Curran; and his seven children: Kay Hoffman (Bob) of Hope, KS; Tim Strunk of Abilene, KS; Max Strunk of Ft Lauderdale, FL; Sue Krenger (Mike) of Oklahoma City, OK, Jan Sexton (Ted) of Abilene KS, Andy Strunk (Angie) of Abilene KS, and Sara Steppe (Dean) of Wakefield KS. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Although Gordon led a simple and modest life, his legacy is rich in kindness, rich in faith, and rich in love. 

A private graveside service is planned for the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Shiloh Ranch Ministries or Hospice of Dickinson County c/o Danner Funeral Home. A celebration of life will Saturday, November 4, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Talmage Library and Event Center.

Donnalee Marcene Broadfoot October 18, 1927 ~ October 27, 2023

Donnalee Marcene Broadfoot passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, surrounded by family in her home in Weston, Missouri after a brief illness. 

Marcene was born October 18, 1927 to E. Gail and Erma Betts in Detroit, Kansas. She graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1945, and after taking the civil service exam, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas. 

She worked in the Alumni Office at Kansas State University across the hall from the college president, Milton Eisenhower, who enjoyed frequent visits from his brother, General Ike Eisenhower. In 1949, Leroy Broadfoot and Marcene were married and moved to Abilene, Kansas, where they raised their two daughters, Carla and Cathy. 

Marcene worked in the county attorney’s office and a local bank. When her daughters were in grade school, she continued her education, obtaining her undergraduate and master's degrees from Kansas State University. She taught English at Abilene High School and, upon retirement, served as sorority mother for Kappa Delta, Tri-Delt and ADPi houses at Kansas State University. 

In 1997, Marcene moved to Weston, Missouri, to be near family, where she enjoyed being a part of her daughter’s retail business and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Throughout her life, Marcene was an avid reader, gardener, exemplary seamstress and cook, and she enjoyed traveling throughout North America and visiting Europe. 

She was a devoted grandmother and a dedicated Wildcat fan. Marcene was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Broadfoot, her parents, and her sisters, Leone Simpson and Sandra Reiff. She is survived by her daughter Carla (Bob) Miller, Big Rapids, Michigan; daughter Cathy Murdock, Weston, Missouri; granddaughter McKenna Murdock, Los Angeles, California; nieces Vicky Simpson Packard and Robin Reiff (Steve) Brace; and nephews Cary (Connie) Simpson and Terry (Angie) Reiff. 

A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas, with services at 2 p.m. Graveside services will be at Prairiedale Cemetery north of Talmage. Timothy Robert Lytle February 18, 1956 ~ October 27, 2023

Timothy Robert Lytle, 67, of Abilene, passed away October 27, 2023, at his home following a 17-year valiant fight with cancer. Tim was born February 18, 1956, in Irvine, California, to Robert and Charlotte Lytle. His stepdad, Darrell Fletcher, came into his life when he was a young boy and raised him like his own, he and his wife, Mona of Groves, Texas, survive. On October 21, 1978, Tim married Debbie Davis, and to this union, 3 children were born. 

Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Tim worked for Great Plains-Land Pride Manufacturing as a Computer Assisted Design manufacturing supervisor for more than 20 years. Tim always kept a positive outlook even during his bad days fighting cancer and cherished his family.

To know Tim was to love him, and nobody loved him more than his six grandkids and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; His grandkids, Ali, Mady, Dawsyn, Daxtyn, Penelope, and Decker brought so much joy to his life. 

Dad and Papa were his greatest titles, and he wore them with pride. Some of his best times were spent camping and hunting with the boys.&nbsp; He was always seen at sporting events for his kids either as a coach or a spectator, never missing a chance to watch those he loved.&nbsp;

 </figure>Timothy Robert Lytle February 18, 1956 ~ October 27, 2023Timothy Robert Lytle, 67, of Abilene, passed away October 27, 2023, at his home following a 17-year valiant fight with cancer. Tim was born February 18, 1956, in Irvine, California, to Robert and Charlotte Lytle. His stepdad, Darrell Fletcher, came into his life when he was a young boy and raised him like his own, he and his wife, Mona of Groves, Texas, survive. On October 21, 1978, Tim married Debbie Davis, and to this union, 3 children were born. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Tim worked for Great Plains-Land Pride Manufacturing as a Computer Assisted Design manufacturing supervisor for more than 20 years. Tim always kept a positive outlook even during his bad days fighting cancer and cherished his family.To know Tim was to love him, and nobody loved him more than his six grandkids and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; His grandkids, Ali, Mady, Dawsyn, Daxtyn, Penelope, and Decker brought so much joy to his life. Dad and Papa were his greatest titles, and he wore them with pride. Janice E. Kleinsorge 82 of Enterprise passed away on October 25 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. Janice was born August 31, 1941, the daughter of Harold and Mildred Houlton in Abilene, KS. Janice was a graduate of Abilene High School. 

Janice lived in Colorado for many years and was a project manager and office manager for the home weatherization program for the State of Colorado. Later in life, Janice married George Kleinsorge Jr. and returned to Enterprise to make their home. 

Janice is survived by her husband George of the home. Daughters Kim Riffel and husband Terry of rural Enterprise, Brenda Ehrhart and husband Mark of Omaha Nebraska. Sons Roger Kelley and wife Becky of rural Chapman and Mark Kelley and wife Wanda of Charlston South Carolina. 

Stepchildren Dawn Washborn, husband Jason of Zurich, Kansas, John Kleinsorge of New York and Robert (Bo) Kleinsorge, wife Julie of Colby, Kansas. Janice is also survived by sisters Nancy Womochil of Abilene and Linda Houlton of Des Moines, Iowa, as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Houlton and sisters, Thelma Knopp and Phylis Fager. 

Janice is remembered for her warm and bubbly personality and the kindness shown to anyone she met. A scripture service to honor Janice will be held at 2 p.m. on November 4, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 210 E. 6th Street in Chapman. Veronica "Vernie" Konecny January 13, 1932 ~ November 1, 2023

Veronica was born to William F. and Christina (Lentz) Vinduska on January 13, 1932, on the family farm near Pilsen, Kansas. She attended Pilsen Grade School and graduated from Marion High School. Following high school, she attended Sacred Heart in Wichita. 

Veronica was employed by the Marion Health Department from 1951-1952, the year she was united in marriage to Eugene J. Konecny on December 27, 1953, in a ceremony delayed by a snowstorm earlier in November. 

The couple lived in Wichita for several years, where Veronica worked for First Securities. While in Wichita, the family welcomed son Greg, who passed away as a newborn, daughter Monica and daughter Jacintha. In 1960, the family moved to a farm not far from the family farm, where daughters Cerita and Karla were born. 

After Karla started school, Veronica worked in Marion for Farm Bureau Insurance, Marion Insurance Center and finally Case and Son Insurance. Veronica kept active as president of the St. Ann’s Altar Society and the Centennial Celebrate in Pilsen. 

In March of 1980, the family moved into Pilsen. Eugene passed away in 2007, and Vernie remained in Pilsen until 2011, when she moved to assisted living in Hutchinson, close to family. 

Veronica is survived by her daughters Monica Lawrence, Jacintha Davis, Cerita Munshaw and Karla Leckliter; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Veronica passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at her daughter’s home. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, son Greg, sister Leona Loney, and brothers Sylvester and George Vinduska. The Church will celebrate the funeral rites for Veronica beginning with the Funeral Vigil this Friday, November 3, 2023, at 6 p.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. 

The funeral celebration will continue with the Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10 a.m. in Pilsen. The funeral will conclude with the Rite of Committal in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp; Her family will gather with friends on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen.

Dorothy Miller-Scheufele-Sandow was born November 21, 1916, near Dillon, Kansas the daughter of Fred and Rhea (Biesecker) Miller. She went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2023, at the age of 106. Dorothy worked on the farm and was a housewife all of her adult life. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rhea (Biesecker) Miller, and her two husbands, Wilbur Glen Scheufele and Marcellus Sandow. Six brothers: Harvey Miller, Freddy Miller, John Miller, Alfred Miller, Robert Miller, and Harold Miller. Five sisters, Emma Miller Anderson, Rhea Miller Rubino, Alice Miller Bolliger, Ruby Miller Jones, Mildred Miller Egbert, three grandchildren Matthew and Amber Hutchinson, and Dustin Sandow. 

She is survived by her children Jaenette Scheufele-Hutchinson-Langley-Robinson of Rural Abilene and Rex Sandow of Herington, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Dorothy was best known for her cinnamon rolls and baking. She was very active in her church and was a very loving and caring person. Graveside services for Dorothy will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Ebenezer Cemetery, with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Jerry Donald Smith, 80, of Lindsborg, died Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Kenwood View Rehabilitation and Health Care in Salina.  Jerry was born September 5, 1943, in Nashville, AR, to the late Harmon and the late Ruth (Ellis) Smith.  Jerry was the husband of the late Sharon Lee (Odam) Smith.  

He is survived by three sons: Donny Smith (Jamie) of Clovis, CA, Jerry Smith of Fresno, CA, and Jason Smith (Mandy) of Lindsborg, as well as his grandchildren: Nick, Kylie, Blake, Madison, and Jace; and great-grandchildren: Connor and Kellyn.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon; daughter, Rhonda Smith; and grandson, Christopher Smith.  

Cremation has been chosen, and private family ceremonies will be held at a later date in California.

Betty Lee Baker Lemley was born and raised in Minneapolis, Kansas, the eldest of ten siblings.&nbsp; As a grade-schooler, she rode a horse to attend a one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Minneapolis High School.&nbsp; At the age of 18 she met her perfect partner, C. Burl Lemley, who was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base (formerly Smokey Hill Air Force Base) while he served in the forces during World War II as a Celestial Navigation Trainer.&nbsp; At the time, Betty was a Marymount College freshman and evidently impressed Burl with her captivating dance moves at a school-sponsored dance.&nbsp; 

They married soon after and spent over 50 happy years together. He was always her check-and-balance while she added a zest of life to his engineer’s precision. Most of their 50 plus years were spent in Beaumont, Texas. They built their own home there, designed by Burl, on Taylor’s Bayou, and treasured their encounters with birds and aquatic life – even alligators! They golfed often together and were consummate and gracious hosts for a large social circle.

 Betty was an accomplished cook, as well as a lively conversationalist. She was active in many philanthropies and social clubs. Betty was also an ardent animal lover, and throughout her life owned and adored many dogs and cats.&nbsp; She and Burl traveled extensively throughout the world and spent extended time in Italy learning the language and perfecting their photography skills. A life-long lover of the arts, Betty obtained her master’s degree in fine arts from Lamar University at the age of 67.&nbsp; Although she lived in Texas for most of her life, her vibrantly colored canvases often reflected the big, dramatic skies of her birthplace, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a prolific and award-winning artist, and her paint brush and artisan community provided her years of joy.

Betty was preceded in death by her cherished Burl, and is survived by her sister, Eileen Baker Berkley, of Salina, Kansas. Although she had no children, “Aunt B” was a beloved elder to many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.

We remember her for her confident and optimistic outlook, her Texas accent, her charm and charisma in any social situation, her many works of art that adorn our family’s walls, her quick smile and infectious laugh, and her strong Catholic faith. We will also remember fondly Betty and Burl’s tradition of a single, perfectly mixed and shaken martini, enjoyed on most days of their lives right at 5:00 o’clock.

John Edward Selzer, 78 of rural Canton died Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Living, McPherson. He was born February 22, 1945 in Canton, the son of Wilbur Edward and Lizzie Mae (Yoder) Selzer.

Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Spring Valley Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Canton, with a memorial service immediately following at the church. Betty Jane Maynard (1931-2023) peacefully passed away on October 30th in Wichita, KS. As a loving wife, mother and homemaker Betty enjoyed her growing family and friends. She filled her spare time encouraging plants to bloom and creating beautiful stitchery. Betty is proceeded in death by her husband Bert G. Maynard, daughter Rebecca Lambert, and granddaughter Susan Lambert. The world changes from year to year, our lives from day by day, but the love and memory of you shall never pass. Betty is survived by son Stephen Traulsen (Cheryl), daughter Linda Patrick (Mike), and multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Lillian Mae Brown, 94, of Salina, died Friday, October 27, 2023. Lillian was born May 1, 1929 in Pfeifer, KS to Joseph and Regina (Jacobs) Stegman. She wed Vernon C. Brown, Sr. on April 11, 1952 and together they had five children.

Lillian is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, and a son. Survivors include 3 siblings, 3 daughters, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Lillian Mae Brown

Micole Marie Anderson (Kallman) was born on April 28, 1979, in Belleville, Kansas, to proud parents Jay and Lynell Kallman. She left this world on October 31, 2023, at the North Central Kansas Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Micole graduated from Belleville High School with the Class of 1997, and she spent her life dedicated to her family and her passions. She was a cherished wife to Devin Anderson of Concordia, Kansas, and a devoted mother to her daughters, Kennedy Anderson of Belleville, Kansas, and Justice Kennidy of Wahiawa, HI. Micole had a special bond with her sisters, Ashley Kallman of Bedminster, New Jersey, and Erin Kallman (Hank and Avree) of Belleville, Kansas; brother-in-law, Michael &amp; Sandy Anderson (Mattie &amp; Alexandria) of Appleton, Wisconsin and father in law, Elton “Andy” Anderson of Concordia, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Rosetta Anderson.

Micole's greatest joy in life was being a grandmother to her beloved grandsons, Ryker Hovater and Khai Anderson, both of Belleville, Kansas. She cherished every moment with them and could often be found sitting in her recliner, playing patty cake, and sharing precious smiles.

Micole had a creative spirit and a talent for crafting. She could turn any old item into a work of art with her imaginative touch. Her crafts were a reflection of her vibrant personality and her ability to find beauty in the simplest of things.

Micole will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her warm smile, creative spirit, unconditional love and load boisterous personality will be cherished forever.

A memorial service to celebrate Micole's life will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;Friends may sign the register book on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 1-8 pm and the family will greet friends from 6-8 pm at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to NCK CASA in Micole's honor.&nbsp;&nbsp;The family requests casual dress for the services and invites all to join them for fellowship and a meal at The Hudson Room at the Kallman Office Suites, 1806 M St., Belleville, KS 66935.

Our dear mother Diana Showalter, went to be with our Lord at the young age of 58, on October 19th, 2023 in Edgewater, Florida.

Diana had such a loving personality, and anyone who got to know her knew she loved with her whole heart. She always put everyone else’s needs before herself. The first thing you’d noticed about her were bright blue eyes and beautiful smile.

She loved Meatloaf, (the band not the food), and having dance parties in the living room while she cleaned. She loved the beach and the heat. She was a hard worker and loved her job where she would come in contact with alligators and other wildlife in the Florida area. She was a fearless soul, She would make a decision and just go with it, and she’d conquer it with no backing down.

She loved and was loved by many and will be missed immensely.

Diana was Born October 24th, 1964 to Melva Margaret Dopson and Donald Lawerence Showalter.  She is survived by her father, William Krieger, her brothers and sisters Mike, Bill, Lori, Butch, Bob, Jim, and Lily, along with many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Her daughters and grandchildren, Teela Martinez (Isaac, Josiah, &amp; Moriah) , Khatrina Main (Kiera,Kyndra,Caelyn,Bella, &amp;Lucy)  and Kristina Vinduska (Cameron, Emily, Cora &amp; Jared), her best friend and sister in law, Sue Hempe, and her husband, Michael Makovsky

Diana is preceded in death by her mom, Gayle Krieger, Brother, Rick, and her birth parents, Melva and Donald Showalter.

She loved celebrating different holidays by dressing up. Christmas at the beach was her favorite and building “snow” men out of sand was something she looked forward to every year.

Diana’s Celebration of life will be held at the Enterprise United Methodist Church at 3pm on Saturday December 2, 2023. Please celebrate her by wearing a funny Christmas sweater.
