James E. Wassenberg, 84, of Salina, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024.&nbsp; He was born August 20, 1939, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Chris and Gertie Wassenberg, and was raised in Marysville, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife, Dee, of the home; daughters, Renee Moritz of Hays, and Julie Wassenberg of Marquette; stepchildren, Tami Stone of Gladstone, MO, Matt Hertig of Lawrence, and Tara Hertig of Bennington; five grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and brothers, Donald Wassenberg of Marysville, Chris Wassenberg of Reno, NV, and David Wassenberg of Salina.

Cremation has been chosen and services are not planned at this time.

Ronnie Wayne Stacy July 19, 1947 ~ March 21, 2024

Ronnie Wayne Stacy&nbsp;went to be with his Lord and savior March 21, 2024. He was born July 19, 1947, in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Ronnie was in the US Army from 1970 to 1972 and served in Vietnam. Along with his wife, Ara “Lee” Ritter, he was a member and soldier of the Salvation Army, and they maintained their active involvement until age made their service no longer possible. In their later years, he assisted his wife in selling her embroidery work at bazaars and fund raisers.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Lee, who passed away in 2014 after 26 years of marriage, his parents, Vernie Stacy and Della (Beeks) Stacy and his siblings.

He is survived by his stepson, Willie Morris and numerous family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.

Gladys Louise (Ford) Reid February 9, 1928 ~ April 17, 2024

Gladys Louise Reid passed away on April 17, 2024 at the age of 96.&nbsp; Gladys was born on February 9, 1928, in Westmorland, Kansas. Gladys and her family moved to Osage City, Kansas at the age of 2. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1946 and was the Salutatorian of her class.&nbsp;

Gladys enrolled at the College of Emporia, where she met Lewis. They were married on August 29, 1948 in Osage City, Kansas. They moved to Topeka, Kansas where Gladys worked for Kansas State Corporation Commission, while Lewis attended Pharmacy School at the University of Kansas. They had 3 daughters, Marsha Ann, Sharon Louise, and Deborah Sue. Gladys and Lewis were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas. They resided in Topeka for 13 years before moving to Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

Lewis opened Key Rexall Drug in Salina, Kansas in 1961. Also, in 1961, they joined Sunrise Presbyterian Church and have been active members since that time. Gladys was a homemaker and did some bookkeeping and payroll for Key Rexall Drug. She was a tireless volunteer, a home room mother, and active in PTA at Grace E. Stewart school. She served many roles at Sunrise Presbyterian Church including Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, and was active in the Women’s group. She delivered Meals On Wheels for many years and was also a Girl Scout leader. Gladys loved to play bridge and was active in many bridge groups. She and Lewis enjoyed dancing and were members of a dance group.&nbsp;

She and Lewis loved to travel. They visited all 50 states and their Capitols. They also made many trips abroad, including Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, Panama Canal and many countries in Europe. Gladys and Lewis also went on a mission trip to Guatemala.

Gladys was so proud of her family and they were extremely important to her. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Harry C. and Grace Gladys Ford, and her two brothers, Harry Ford and Charles Ford. She is survived by her husband, Lewis F. Reid, three daughters, Marsha (Jerry) Franklin, Sharon (Larry) Rauschenbach and Deborah (Ron) Mountsier, seven grandchildren, Jason (Suzi) Franklin, Sarah (Brian) Gisick, Ashley (Mike) Greaving, Lauren (Chris) Schekorra, Cliff (Beth) Mountsier, Maggie (Ethan) Gechter, Andrew Mountsier, and 12 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. A private family graveside service will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Stewart Graves 58 of Salina passed away March 12, 2024 at the Salina Regional Health Center. Stewart was born January 2, 1966 the son of Eldon and Naomi Graves in Junction City, Kansas. Stewart grew up in Abilene and attended High School in the Class of 1984. Stewart obtained some college credits.

Stewart worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a mechanic foreman in the Salina District. Stewart was a fun loving soul and the highlight in his life was his daughter Lydia and granddaughter Willow as well as his motorcycle.

Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Vincent Graves. Stewart is survived by his daughter Lydia Graves of Salina, his granddaughter Willow Higgins and his brother Kenneth Graves of Salina.

Funeral services for Stewart will be Monday April 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Michel’s Church 210 E. 6th Street Chapman, Kansas. Stewart's final resting place will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery rural Chapman. The family suggests rather than flowers please consider contributing to the Willow Higgins education fund in his memory. Betty Seibel passed away at Village Manor on April 18, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1927, in Abilene, Kansas, to Ralph and Mary (Daniels) Stillie. Her childhood was spent in Abilene, where she attended local schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1946. She married the love of her life, Lloyd Seibel, on February 16, 1947, in the First Baptist Church. Shortly after marriage, the couple moved close to Lloyd’s brother in California, where they lived most of their married life. She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling including many trips to Las Vegas, and sightseeing in the US, Canada and Europe. Betty worked for Pacific Telephone Company, retiring after 34 years.

After her husband’s death, and being away more than 40 years, she moved back to Abilene. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; brother, Andrew; sisters Phillis, Marie and Lois; cousins Helen Farley and Leonard Daniels. She is survived by her son Charles and wife Maria of Palm Springs, California and her lifelong friend, Gayle Dautel of Wichita.

Mary Frances (Larson) Tillberg December 12, 1941 ~ April 14, 2024

Mary (Larson) Tillberg died peacefully surrounded by family at Sun Center in Mayville, ND on April 14, 2024.

Mary Frances Larson was born December 12, 1941 to Berthold “O.B.” and Frances (Dahlsten) Larson in San Antonio, TX. After WWII ended and her father returned from serving in England, her family settled in McPherson, Kansas. She attended McPherson public schools and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Luther League. Through her family and church, she developed her love of music and serving others.

While in high school, she attended a Luther League Convention in Chicago, IL, and met her future husband. Despite an early mix-up with brothers’ names, Mary and Eldon continued dating through high school and college.

After graduating from McPherson High School in 1959, she attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS, for two years and then went to Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, NE, to become a Registered Nurse. During this time, she became engaged to Eldon.&nbsp; Having promised her parents that Mary would finish nurse’s training before getting married, Eldon and Mary were married on August 29, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson, KS, 30 days after she graduated from Immanuel. She studied for her nursing boards on their honeymoon to Lake Ida and Lake Itasca, MN. A year later, she finished her Bachelor of Science from Bethany College.

Eldon and Mary first made their home near Hedville, Kansas. Into this union were born two children, Bruce Eldon and Julie Marie. In 1967, they moved southwest of Smolan and raised their children there. They felt welcomed into the Smolan/Salemsborg/Falun community and forged deep roots in that community. In 2004, they fulfilled a longtime dream and built a home with beautiful views to the East and West on a hill in a pasture they owned north of Smolan.

Mary worked at Asbury Hospital in Salina before having children. When Bruce and Julie were in elementary school, she returned to Asbury Hospital which became Salina Regional Health Center. Throughout Mary’s career, caring for patients gave her a sense of fulfillment.

Mary enjoyed serving Salemsborg Lutheran Church through WELCA women’s groups, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Evangelism and Outreach Committee, choir, and handbell choir. She enjoyed singing hymns, anthems, and other songs and passed that love on to her children. She encouraged them to learn musical instruments in school. Mary and Eldon never missed any of the numerous grade school operettas, musicals, band, orchestra, and vocal concerts from grade school through high school. Following in her father’s footsteps, she sang in the Bethany Oratorio Society Messiah Festival when in college and then again in later years. She enjoyed gathering with friends and family for birthdays and other occasions, and regularly played Mexican Train Dominoes with a group of life-long friends.

Even though Mary and Eldon did not pressure their children for grandchildren, they were thrilled when first, John Luke, and then, Lilie, were born. They made the trek up north to see their grandchildren as often as they could, and in these last months, enjoyed seeing them much more frequently and attending school functions.

Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eldon, Mayville, ND; a son, Bruce (Jerry Hicks), Westlake, OH; a daughter, Julie (John Pederson), Mayville, ND; two grandchildren, John Luke and Lilie “Pluto” Pederson, Mayville, ND; a brother, David (Elsa) Larson, Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law, Arnold (Ann) Tillberg, Howard Richards, Vernon (Jeri) Tillberg, and Gordon (Gloria) Tillberg; sisters-in-law Vivian (Darrell) McCulley and Rhonda Tillberg; honorary grandchildren, Cara Camac, Jessica Rawson, and Clinton MacDonald; and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Berthold and Frances Larson; parents-in-law, Lawrence and Rosalind Tillberg; sister-in-law, Elda Jean Richards; and brother-in-law, Leland Tillberg.

The family will be present at the Visitation on Sunday, April 21, 5 PM to 8 PM at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, KS.

The funeral service will be Monday, April 22, 2 PM at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, Smolan, KS, with burial following at the Salemsborg Cemetery.

James (Jim) Lane Koch January 27, 1962 ~ March 31, 2024

James (Jim) Lane Koch, age 62, went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2024. Jim was born on January 27, 1962 in Larned, KS to the late Robert (Bob) and Mary Koch. He graduated from Salina Central High in 1980.

During and after high school Jim worked at Key Mars Restaurant where he met his beloved wife Marje. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2023. They were married for 37 years. 

Jim was a loving father to his daughter Darcy (Frank) Kelly, but most of all he loved being "Papa" to his only grandchild Emma Kelly.

Jim drove delivery trucks for several companies before beginning employment with Air Gas in 1999 filling gas tanks. His career ended as a Cryogenic Technician Bulk Gas Installation Specialist after 25 years with the company.

Jim is also survived by siblings Diane (Koch) Mannebach, Nada (Kennan) Ingalsbe, Robert "Bob" (Gena) Koch and Claudine (Jeff) Smit&nbsp; and many nieces, nephews and revered friends.

A memorial service will be held June 8 at First Christian Church 2727 E Crawford, Salina KS, at 2:00 p.m.

Lorene Helen Chanay Stockard, Princeton, KS was born on November 16, 1932 to Artie and Helen (King) Chanay, in Lawrence, KS. She attended Wellsville High School graduating in 1950. She grew up attending Wellsville Baptist Church, where she was then baptized in 1944. Lorene and Melvin Stockard were united in marriage on May 18, 1952 at the Wellsville Baptist Church. They moved to rural Princeton, where she resided until her death. She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church since 1953. Three children were born to this union, Ronald Keith, Rodney Dale, and Lori Diane. Lorene's first job was at Eddie's Casual Shoppe. She was a bookkeeper at Princeton Grain Company, which she and Melvin owned for 17 years. She also did bookkeeping for New Life Trucking and Franklin County Rural Water District. She was a Longaberger Consultant for 16 years. Lorene held many responsibilities while attending the Richmond United Methodist Church including being President of UMW, founder of JOY group, and participated in many mission trips by sharing the gospel through Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Chapter for 60 years reaching the degree of Xi Masters. Lorene is survived by her children, Ronald (Karla) Stockard, and Lori (Larry) Brockus. Eight grandchildren, Jeremy Brockus, Lucas (Heather) Brockus, Lynsey (Corey) Ellis, Ryan Stockard, Kala (Jake) Gill, Katelyn (Austin) Durst, Olivia Stockard, and Paige Stockard. She was a Great Grandmother to twelve and Great-Great Grandmother to four, and had a special Swedish granddaughter, Maria Larsson. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ryburn, and brother, Larry (Julia) Chanay, brother-in-law, Bernard Stovall, and sister-in-laws, Helen and Betty Chanay. Lorene is proceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Melvin Stockard; son, Rodney Stockard; grandson, Kristopher Stockard; parents, Artie and Helen Chanay; brothers, Merle, Keith, Marlin Chanay; sister Leila Stovall. Becky Lenae Bailey, 58, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at her home outside of Ellsworth, KS. She was born August 14, 1965 in Ellsworth to Jimmy Joe Morris and Karen (Rollet) Petty. Becky married John Bailey in Kanopolis, KS on July 14, 1985. She was a Registered Nurse at the Ellsworth Clinic for many years and a secretary at the Ellsworth County Appraiser’s Office and later for TK Company.

Becky is survived by husband John Bailey of Ellsworth; sons, Tyler Bailey (Keegan) of Beloit, KS and Kristofer Bailey (Jade Shirack) of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Isabell, Cooper, and Kaiden Bailey and Savannah and Kit Bailey; stepmother Vicki Morris; stepfather Jerry Petty; sister LeAnn Ploutz (Darrell) of Kanopolis; brothers, Bret Morris (Betsy Miller) of Wichita, KS and Lance “Shab” Morris (Val) of Lyons, KS; two stepbrothers; three stepsisters; as well as many nieces and nephews. Pearlie Lee Storper, 71, of Salina, died on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the Smoky Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salina, Kansas.

She was born on June 23, 1952 in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Nora (Burkhart) Lobdell. Pearlie was raised in Salina and attended Salina Central High School.

She married Pete Storper and were later divorced. Pearlie loved her dogs and she was always a joy to be around.

Survivors include her son Daniel Lobdell of Ellsworth, Kansas, special friend, Carl Frenzen.&nbsp; Several brothers and sisters.&nbsp;As well as Kim Rayas who has taken care of Pearlie the past few years.

Until Pearlie’s health decline, she and Carl spent the past 37 years traveling across the United States.&nbsp; Meeting many celebrities and completing the map of all 50 states was an enjoyable time spent together.

A special thank you to both Smoky Hill Health &amp; Rehabilitation Center along with Interim Hospice and all others who took part in the care of Pearlie. &nbsp;

Private inurnment services will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina.

Barbara Ann (Steinberg) Wolford, 73, Tescott, formerly of Lincoln County, died Sunday, April 7, 2024. Barb was born in Salina on January 1, 1951, to Alvin Bernard and Alice Virginia (Bruce) Steinberg.

Barb was baptized on January 14, 1951, at home by the pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shady Bend. She was confirmed on April 11, 1965, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lincoln. Barb graduated from Lincoln High School in May of 1969.

Barn and William Ray Wolford were united in marriage on August 10, 1969, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lincoln.

She held various jobs mostly as a bookkeeper – the longest being with an implement dealership in Dighton. She also worked at several banks.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on October 20, 2014, and her parents.

Survivors are her sister, Karla (Jim) Lero; sister-in-law, Kay Marshall, brother-in-law, Joe (Karen) Wolford; nephews and nieces, Carl (Dawn) Lero, Katie Lero, Jacob Lero, Diane (Barkley) Gentry, Audrey Marshall Cummings, Travis Wolford, and Robin Prado; and several great nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Tescott. Craig H. Cook, age 71, entered into rest on Monday, April 15, 2024, at his home in Concordia, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on December 2, 1952, in Toronto Ontario, Canada to Henry and Alice (Esson) Cook.&nbsp;

Craig graduated from high school in 1973 in Toronto Canada. &nbsp;He received his criminal justice degree from college in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada.

He was a member of the Fellowship Christian Church in Concordia.&nbsp; He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Canada.

Craig worked for the Providence of Ontario Canada prison system as a prison guard for 27 years and retired in 2005.

He enjoyed gambling, playing the slots, music, singing, whistling, playing the guitar, and piano. &nbsp;Most of all Craig loved spending time with his beloved family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Peggy Ballinger of the home, 2 sons, Mike Cook and Daniel Cook, stepson, John Ballinger and stepdaughter, Jesicca Leapaldt and their seven wonderful grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.

Craig’s wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Fellowship Christian Church in Concordia, Kansas with Pastor Dwight Whitead officiating.

Kenneth Meral Monroe II, son of Kenneth M and Betty J. (Farmer) Monroe, was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on March 8, 1945. He and his sister Jo Anell were children born to this union. Kenneth is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Monroe and Mother Betty (Farmer) Monroe, Grandparents Raymond and Anna Farmer, Sam and Nellie Monroe, Aunts, and Uncles. Kenneth was united in marriage to Loretta Brobst on January 13, 1963, in Wichita Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas and later lived in Union Town, Marion, and Hutchinson, Kansas. Upon retiring from the Kansas Highway Patrol they lived in Kingsland, Texas for several years. This union was blessed with three daughters, Jo Whitley, Tomi Gasper, and Robin Blazek. Kenneth leaves behind his wife Loretta Monroe and three daughters, one grandson, five granddaughters, seven great grandsons, and one great granddaughter. He was blessed with a sister Jo Myers, nieces Brandy McCarty and Danielle Lewis and lifelong friend Richard Turner. Kenneth served in the United States Navy, was a Vietnam Veteran and a Master Mason. Kenneth was a letter carrier for the post office in Wichita, Kansas before joining the Kansas Highway Patrol. Kenneth served as a State Trooper for the Kansas Highway Patrol for 23 years stationed in Marion, Kansas until his retirement in 1994. Kenneth is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Monroe and Mother Betty (Farmer) Monroe, Grandparents Raymond and Anna Farmer, Sam and Nellie Monroe, Aunts, and Uncles. Kenneth was united in marriage to Loretta Brobst on January 13, 1963, in Wichita Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas and later lived in Union Town, Marion, and Hutchinson, Kansas. Upon retiring from the Kansas Highway Patrol they lived in Kingsland, Texas for several years. This union was blessed with three daughters, Jo Whitley, Tomi Gasper, and Robin Blazek. Sylvia Ann (Siemers) Rice July 9, 1960 ~ April 15, 2024

Sylvia Ann (Siemers) Rice&nbsp;was born June 9, 1960 to Vinton and Ila (Markley) Siemers in Russell, Kansas. She danced her way into heaven on April 15, 2024, leaving behind her husband of 40 years Richard Rice of Salina, her children; Charity (Kevin) Dalzell of Suttons Bay, MI, Jennifer (Drea) Hayeslip of St. Charles, MO, and Corey (Kat) Scheck of Salina, KS. Her grandchildren; Kaycie Rice, Hunter Burns, Lyndsey Dalzell, Allison, Maggie, and Evelyn Scheck, and she was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great grand child in November of 2024. Sylvia was also survived by her siblings; Linda Olson, Kurt (Kitza) Siemers, and Sharla (Mike) Cook. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ron Siemers and her grandson Justin Dalzell.

Sylvia grew up in Russell, KS and graduated from Russell High School in 1978 where she served on student council, the dance team, and cheerleading squad, preparing for her future career as Chief Cheerleader for all things Salina, Kansas. In 1982, she and her son Corey moved to Salina, where she met Richard and they married October 7, 1983, completing her family with the addition of her two daughters.

Sylvia dedicated more than forty years to the tourism and hospitality industry in Salina. She began her career at the Ramada Inn where she collected life long friends and stories along the way up the managerial chain. In 1991 she found her work home at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce where she came to direct the staff of Visit Salina. Sylvia served on a myriad of Kansas tourism boards and committees including, TIAK-Travel Association of Kansas, the 1-70 Association, and Meet Kansas, and was considered the “Matriarch of Kansas Tourism”. Sylvia was a founding member of Sculpture Tour Salina and worked tirelessly to make that dream a reality. She loved her city, and it is a better, more colorful place because of her.

Sylvia was no stranger to struggle. She battled cancer, and many other related health issues for more than 10 years, and she did it all with unparalleled grace and a wry smile for all who came into her orbit. She didn’t let her own issues get in the way of her true passion, caring for people. All who knew her felt the glow of her love and compassion. Her family, especially her children and grandchildren were the center of her life. She loved them deeply and she will live on in their hearts.

The family would like to especially thank the Genitiva Hospice staff, Yvonne, Heidi, and Tara for their kindness, compassion, laughter and care in the last days of Sylvia’s life. They also cannot put into words how much the outpouring of love from Sylvia’s friends, co-workers, and church family has meant to them. Cards, visits, hugs, and meals have been plentiful and deeply felt.

The Celebration of Life service will be at Church of the Cross, UMC, 1600 Rush St. Salina, KS. on Saturday April 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors Friday, April 19th from 5-7 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Sylvia’s honor to Sculpture Tour Salina, in care of the Salina Chamber of Commerce 120 W. Ash.

Joan Lafferty Mabes Christensen April 17, 1929 ~ April 12, 2024

Joan Lafferty Mabes Christensen, 94, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Canton, KS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family at her and her grandson Shane’s home on Friday, April 12, 2024.

She was born April 17, 1929, in Little River, KS to Ernest Harvey and Viola Melvina (Coe) Lafferty. They lived on a farm two miles east of Windom. Joan had six brothers, Harold, Earl, Melvin, LeRoy, Herbert and Gene. She had two sisters, Aldena and Gladys. Gladys died in infancy.&nbsp;

Joan married Ronald Mabes on May 15, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Windom, KS. To this union four daughters were born, Jacque, Renee, Rhonda, and Michelle, and a son, Randy Lee. Randy passed away at age 4 1/2. Joan and Ronald divorced in 1972 and Joan, her daughters, and granddaughter, Kari, moved from New York to Canton, KS.&nbsp;

She worked for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company for 20 years and retired in 1994. Joan married Marlin Christensen of Galva in 1984. To that union she gained Marlin’s three sons, Brian, Joel and Royce.&nbsp;

Joan was a member of the Canton Community Church, United Methodist Women, and Naomi Circle. She was also a member of the McPherson Historical Society, Canton Literacy Study Club, serving as secretary for six years, and served as a chairman of the Canton library board.&nbsp;

Surviving her are daughters, Jacque Rinker (Ronn), McPherson, Rhonda Hamby ( Chuck), Canton, and Michelle Unruh (Brantley), Galva; three step-sons, Brian Christensen, Clearwater, Joel Christensen (Chris), Fort Calhoun, NE, and Royce Christensen, Olathe. Grandchildren include Kari Rinker (Anthony Singer), Chad Rinker, Shane Smith, Kelcie Sanchez (Domingo), Kristopher Klatt, Jason Klatt (Nikki), Amy Lohmolder (Caleb), Kurtis Unruh, Joseph Unruh (Jessica), and Lindsey Dellinger (Daniel), Calista Christensen, Kiley Arnold, Brock Christensen, Kayla Christensen, Kyle Christensen, Mary Irey Christensen and Elizabeth Annie Christensen. Great-grandchildren include Sky Mangers, Abby and Ava Singer, Dawson and Sawyer Sanchez, Theo Lohmolder, Laurelle Unruh, Izzy Sinnett, Chloe and Hailey Arnold, Emily Rose Christensen, Lyla Christensen and Maisyn Rene Christensen.&nbsp;

Deceased are Joan’s parents, Ernest and Viola Lafferty; her six brothers and two sisters; son Randy; daughter Renee and son-in-law Steven Smith; along with her husband Marlin.&nbsp;

Joan wrote that she wanted to be remembered for being kind, thoughtful and loving, but she will be remembered for far more than that…for growing up in a depression, raising rabbits which she herself refused to eat, for her love of her sisters and brothers, especially LeRoy, who was more like a father to her, for frequently moving her new little family around to the next town for work purposes, for her daring move across the country with a station wagon full of girls and two dogs to settle in and raise them in a remote little town before single parenting was common, for being selfless and taking care of everyone else’s needs and wishes first. She will also be remembered for her strength and endurance through great losses, illnesses and pain and very little need to complain through the processes, for her love of traveling with Marlin to whatever back road destination and restaurant he had found to visit, to the annual Christmas Eve celebrations where she thoroughly enjoyed herself with all the grands-playing games, including Farkle, and making her enchiladas for the frequent Mexican cuisine.&nbsp;

Joan loved reading love stories, especially Nicholas Sparks novels. She loved snuggling with each and every new baby that came along, including most recently, holding new twin great-grandsons, and was looking forward to two more coming soon. Joan loved her birthdays and let us know that we needed to help her celebrate each and every one. This year, instead, we celebrate her new birth into her eternal home. Praise Jesus for that, as we can look forward to being reunited again when it’s our time to take that next journey if we accept the Lord as our Savior, as she did.&nbsp;

Joan was an example of a life well lived and certainly well loved. She will be missed, but she will be cherished as a true lady in our minds and our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Canton Community Church with Pastor Mike Miller officiating.&nbsp; The final resting place will be at the Empire Cemetery, Galva.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Judy Ann Holloway December 3, 1950 ~ Thursday, April 11, 2024

Judy Ann Holloway, 73, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at McPherson Hospital.

She was born on December 3, 1950, in&nbsp; Herington, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey and Alta (Aldridge) Fleming.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School in 1969 and continued her education at Hutchinson Junior College, Wichita State University, and McPherson College.&nbsp; On August 9, 1969, Judy was united in marriage to Gary C. Holloway at First Christian Church in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Barry and Chris.

Judy was one of the first employees of McPherson Pizza Hut in the 1970s.&nbsp; She taught for 15 years in USD #418 as a classroom teacher and as a gifted education teacher.&nbsp; After she retired in 2005, she was a substitute teacher and an adjunct professor at Tabor College for two years.

She loved to play tennis and tried to please her husband by playing golf with him, even though she hated the game.&nbsp; Judy adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She wrote two children’s education books and had them published.&nbsp; She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and helped with many school activities. Judy loved watching her sons and grandchildren play their sports.&nbsp; She enjoyed trips to Hawaii and was the all-time best at shop-‘til-you-drop.&nbsp; She worked with the Blessings Boutique gang at the church for their annual fundraiser.&nbsp; In her spare time, she loved reading and playing cards (especially Krypto with her good friend Donna Viola), board games, and playing the slot machines at the casino.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 54 years, Gary Holloway; a son, Chris (Julie) Holloway of McPherson, KS; a sister, Karla (R.J.) Reutiman of Centennial, CO; two grandchildren, Baylee (Hunter) Dixon of South Hutchinson, KS and Carter Holloway of Manhattan, KS; two great-grandchildren, Briggs Dixon and Wrenley Dixon; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Alta Fleming; a son, Barry Holloway; sister, Jan Pecoraro; two nieces, Kerstin Hall and Stacey Bruza; and a nephew, Jeff Myers.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at McPherson Cemetery with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Judy loved watching her sons and grandchildren play their sports.&nbsp; She enjoyed trips to Hawaii and was the all-time best at shop-‘til-you-drop.&nbsp; She worked with the Blessings Boutique gang at the church for their annual fundraiser.&nbsp; In her spare time, she loved reading and playing cards (especially Krypto with her good friend Donna Viola), board games, and playing the slot machines at the casino.Survivors include: her loving husband of 54 years, Gary Holloway; a son, Chris (Julie) Holloway of McPherson, KS; a sister, Karla (R.J.) Dwight E. Spence, 93, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at The Cedars in McPherson.

Dwight was born on September 13, 1930, in McPherson, KS, the son of Homer Richard and Maggie Mae (McClain) Spence.&nbsp; He was raised on a farm just north of McPherson and attended Centerview Country Grade School just north of McPherson through the 8th grade.&nbsp; He attended and graduated from McPherson High School and later graduated from McPherson College with a BS Degree in Business Administration.&nbsp; He graduated from Railroad Communications School in Kansas City and worked for the Rock Island Railroad Company for 17 years as a telegraph operator and station agent.&nbsp; He worked for Kit Manufacturing Co. for 26 years in several capacities, as cost accountant, controller, purchasing manager, and general manager.&nbsp; This employment was terminated shortly after the mobile home plant in McPherson was destroyed by a tornado in June 1992.&nbsp; After retirement, he worked about nine years as a delivery person for O’Dell’s Laundry.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

On February 10, 1952, Dwight was united in marriage to Winifred Lucile Jones in Canton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on August 7, 2003.

Dwight was an active member of the First Baptist Church of McPherson and a member of the Y.E.S. Sunday school class.&nbsp; He was a 50 year plus member of McPherson Odd Fellow Lodge No. 376 and served as Noble Grand of the lodge for several years.&nbsp; He was also a member of McPherson Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #24, and former member and past president of McPherson Light Capitol Kiwanis Club.

He had a close relationship with his family and friends and enjoyed watching his grandchildren perform in their activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dwight is survived by his two sons: Steve Spence of McPherson, KS and Lee Spence of Hutchinson, KS; four grandchildren, April Spence of Chicago, IL, Abbigail (John) Peddieson of Henderson, NV, Dustin (Megan) Spence &nbsp;of Olathe, KS, and Alex Spence of Hutchinson, KS; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Peddieson, Eliza Spence, and Jameson Spence; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Dixie Spence; daughters-in-law, Nadine Spence and Debbie Spence; brother, Richard Spence; and a sister, Audrey McNichols.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 19, at the First Baptist Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Lloyd William Kottman, 75, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 in Ellsworth, KS. He was born November 20, 1948 in Ellsworth to John and Merne (Hunter) Kottman. Lloyd was a lifetime resident of the Ellsworth area where he was a farmer and rancher. He married Carol Lyne in Ellsworth on December 30, 1972. Lloyd was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a member of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, Three Corners Rabbit Club, Kansas Rabbit Association, and National Rabbit Association.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Carol Kottman of Ellsworth; daughter Michelle Ann Maze (Joseph) of Ellsworth; son Daniel Russell Kottman (Kimberly) of Carneiro; daughter Doris Rose Thrush of Holyrood, KS; as well as nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Charlie Thrush and followed in death by his sister, Darlene Sheldon.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth with family present 6-8 p.m.

Brett Jon Kuntz, a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, husband and friend departed from this world on April 13th, 2024, due to a tragic accident on the farm that he loved. He left behind a tapestry of cherished memories and a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come. On April 30th, 1980, Brett was born to Renee Jury and Bob Kuntz in Salina, Kansas. Brett's journey began with promise and purpose, each chapter enriched by his unwavering dedication to family and his compassionate spirit.

Brett graduated from Chapman High School (Class of 1999) where everyone was his friend. Brett's zest for life was infectious, his smile and laughter filled every room. He was a kid at heart, finding joy in the simplest of pleasures and embracing every moment with enthusiasm.

On January 24th, 2015, Brett married Melanie Schwab, later divorced. Together, they welcomed two beautiful daughters into their lives, Journey Kuntz, 2010, and Jacey Kuntz, 2015. Brett's devotion to his family knew no bounds, and his daughters were truly the light of his life. His girls were his world, and his love for them shone brightly in every moment they shared.

In the hearts of those who loved him, Brett will forever be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his soft gentle, nature and his endless love. Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched and the love he shared. He is survived by his daughters, Journey and Jacey Kuntz; parents, Bob (Janet) Kuntz, and Renee (Tim) Jury: brothers, Kelly (Kyanna) Kuntz, Tyler (Shari) Kuntz, and Kurt Phillips: nieces and nephews, Tristan, Sam, Clare, Meredith, Kynlie, Ellie, and Kaesen.

Brett’s family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, April 19th, 6-8 pm, at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Home, 206 W 5th St, Chapman, KS.

Services for Brett's life will be held on April 20th, 2024, 1:30 pm at Brett’s home, 2775 Key Road, Abilene, KS, where family and friends will gather to honor his remarkable journey and find solace in each other's company during this time of loss. Preceding the service, a burial will be held at the Indian Hill Cemetery, 501 Hilltop Dr, Chapman, KS.

Jack’s life began on Wednesday December 2, 1953, in Winfield, KS. He was the son of Rex Birdell&nbsp;Newcom and Naomi E. (Pierson) Newcom. Jack graduated from Remington High School in&nbsp;Whitewater in 1972. Jack joined the United States Air Force directly after high school graduation. While enlisted he was a parachute&nbsp;rigger for the Air Force. Jack was united in marriage to the former Kathy&nbsp;Shaffer- Worrell in 2002 in Wichita. For over 40 years, Jack was an auctioneer and real estate agent in&nbsp;the area. He was a member of the Kansas Auctioneers Association. Jack is survived by his&nbsp;wife Kathy Newcom of Leon, son Nick (Holley) Newcom of Wichita’ grandchildren Brailey,&nbsp;Lauren, and Jax Newcom, and Parker and Hayes Dexter; siblings Bob Newcom of TN, Geneva&nbsp;Ambrose of TN, and Brent Newcom of Newton. John was born on June 17, 1930, in Salina, Kansas, the son of John H. and Seraphine M. (Borst) Budke. He was born at St. John’s Hospital in Salina. He was a native Kansan and proud of that. He graduated in 1948 from Sacred Heart High School. He went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in January 1950 as a lineman. He worked in various positions until retiring in 1995, with 45 years of accredited service. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1951. He was placed in Security Service as a cryptography operator, decoding enemy communications, which was cutting-edge technology at that time. He served in Germany, &amp; Tripoli, Libya, and San Antonio, Texas. John served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict with an Honorable Discharge in January 1955. He returned to Salina and resumed work at Southwestern Bell. He married the former Mary Margaret (Margie) Pearson on December 1, 1956, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. They were blessed to celebrate 67 wedding anniversaries!

He was proud of being ‘one of the guys’ that helped establish Babe Ruth Baseball in Salina. In an interview John once said..…”The Babe Ruth League got started to help a lot of kids get to play baseball instead of just a few kids. The only team for the older boys in Salina at that time was the American Legion traveling team. A lot of kids just couldn’t afford to play on that team because they had jobs. The Babe Ruth League was for anybody.” John coached multiple baseball and basketball teams giving kids rides to practice and helping them get to games. He was also Booster of the Year more than once at Sacred Heart for various big projects like getting a new gym floor, creating Sacred Heart Fan jackets and establishing the practice fields on the property. While working for Southwestern Bell, he was Secretary Treasurer of the Union and helped fellow workers speak up for their rights. He was never afraid to write letters to the editor of the Salina Journal if he thought there was a community issue that needed to be addressed. His greatest accomplishment however was caring for his wife and children, everything from going to the library to learn how to build the family home to supporting every single school activity and sport his children and grandchildren were involved in. Big John was a big part of many people’s lives.John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Seraphine Budke, his brother, Bernard Budke, his sisters, Gertrude Martin, Margo Budke, Ann Platt, Rita Martin, and Jo Thielen. He was also preceded in death by his son, Kurt Budke and his Great Grandson, Vincent Felton. He is survived by his wife, Margie, three daughters, Michelle (Kurt) Ratzlaff, Sara (Mike) Haden, Christi (Jim) Rippy, and daughter-in-law Shelley (Balthazor) Budke.
