Lewen Clay Thompson March 22, 1937 ~ April 12, 2024

Lewen Clay Thompson passed away on April 12, 2024 at the age of 87.&nbsp; Clay was born on March 22, 1937, in Oklahoma City. After graduation from John Marshall High School in 1955, Clay went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Phillips University in Enid, OK in 1959 and received a Master of Science from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS in 1967. He did additional post-graduate studies at Emporia State, Kansas State, and the University of Oklahoma.

While at Phillips University, he met and fell in love with Nancy E. Garren. They married on June 28, 1957. They proceeded to have four boys! Brent, Steve, Jeff and Kenny.&nbsp; He taught high school English, Drama, and Debate in Hoisington, KS from 1960-1967. He began his career as a secondary school administrator as the principal of Moundridge High School from 1968-1970.&nbsp; After a move to Salina in 1970, he served as building principal at several secondary schools: Roosevelt Lincoln Jr. High, Central High School, and South Middle School from 1970 to 1995 when he retired from life as an educator.&nbsp; Over his years in education, he was recognized with many awards and served in many leadership positions including Outstanding Speech Teacher in KS in 1965, Kansas J.C.’s Outstanding Young Educator in 1971, President of the Kansas State Teacher’s Association in 1974, and Kansas Outstanding Middle School Principal in 1992.

After retiring from the world of education, Clay followed in his mom’s footsteps and became a Realtor. He was with Coldwell Banker in Salina from 1995-2006. During that time, he served on many real estate leadership boards and committees which included a year as the President of the Salina Board of Realtors.

He was always involved with his community and served in many different capacities which included: President of the Downtown Lion’s Club in 1985, member of the Salina Urban Renewal Commission in 1973, served on the Rescue Mission Board for years, 2 terms as a member of the Salina Arts and Humanities Commission from 1988-1996, 2 terms as a member of the Salina Planning Commission from 1997-2004, a member of the United Way Board, member of Century 21 Committee appointed by Governor Graves in 2002. &nbsp;

Clay loved adventures, challenges and the outdoors.&nbsp; He ran several marathons, hiked the Grand Canyon and many mountains.&nbsp; He was also active in leadership at Sunrise Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities including Elder.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lewen and Betty Thompson. He is survived by his wife Nancy, a sister, Sally Hillis and a brother Bill Thompson. He and Nancy have 4 “boys,” Brent (Patty) Thompson, Steve (Penny) Thompson, Jeff (Mary) Thompson and Kenny (Amy) Thompson. They have 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren!

A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, April 19th at Sunrise Presbyterian Church. The Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 20th at Sunrise. Toastie Racy December 14, 1943 ~ April 12, 2024

Toastie Racy was born December 14, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, and departed this life on April 12, 2024, at her home in Abilene, Kansas. Toastie was the oldest daughter of Edward and Bette (Ryan) Blewitt. She grew up in the Topeka area, attended the local schools, and graduated from Hayden High School. She attended the University of Kansas. On November 23, 1963, she was united in marriage with Melvin Racy in Lawrence, Kansas. Mel and Toastie called Lawrence their home until the summer of 1978, when the family moved to Abilene, Kansas.

A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Toastie was devoted to her faith and committed to her family. Toastie is survived by her two sons Mike (Kathy) of Riverside, Missouri and Kip of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three daughters, RaeLyn of Argyle, Texas, Kelly Jones (Chris) of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Kim Funston (Heath) of Abilene, Kansas. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: a sister Teri Hatfield (Larry) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Tip Ryan (Jenny) of Park City, Utah. Toastie was preceded in death by her husband Mel, her mother Bette, her father Edward, her brother Daniel, and her niece Matti.

Toastie loved her faith, her family, and her friends. When she wasn’t at an Abilene ball game or a church or school activity, she was often traveling to see family or to be with friends. There will be a Rosary prayed for Toastie at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19th at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Abilene, Kansas. The Family will receive friends immediately following the prayer service next door at the Parish Hall. Mass of Christina Burial for Toastie will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Andrews Catholic Church or, to the Toastie Racy Scholarship Fund to be awarded to an Abilene High School Senior. Toastie Racy

Thong Le September 25, 1946 ~ April 12, 2024

On April 12th, 2014, Thong Le passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Nguyet Pham along with all his children and grandchildren at his bedside. Early that morning, the clouds lifted and the angels ushered him to heaven.

Thong and Nguyet have been married for 57 years. He lived in Vietnam for 49 years before moving to the United States. Thong was an official of the Republic of Vietnam during this time. &nbsp;After the Vietnam War, Thong was placed in re-education camp for 7 years leaving Nguyet to support the family. &nbsp;After his release, Thong did everything he could to support his family but it was extremely difficult to survive. &nbsp; Thong made a tough decision to relocate his family to America. In 1995, Thong and his family moved to Dodge city, KS and he later relocated to Salina, KS where he lived the remainder of his days. &nbsp;

Thong was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences. &nbsp;His family was his whole world. &nbsp;He was a man of few words and expressed his love through actions. &nbsp;He will be remembered for all the kindness and love he shared with his family and friends. &nbsp;If you knew him, there would be no doubt that he truly loved you. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity and strength. He will be missed dearly.

Thong is survived by his wife Nguyet Pham. &nbsp;His first daughter Thuy Le, her husband and three daughters. &nbsp;His second daughter Chi Le, her husband and 4 children, and two granddaughters-in-law along three great grandchildren. &nbsp;His third son Quoc Le, his wife, three children and one grand-daughter-in law. His fourth daughter Huong Le and her 3 daughters. &nbsp;His fifth daughter Hang Le and her daughter. &nbsp;His sixth son Long Le. &nbsp;His seventh daughter Linh Le and her husband.&nbsp;

Thong Le is survived by his older brother Ba Le and his younger sister Thai Le.

Thong is preceded in death by his parents Huan Le and Xuan Ho, his younger sister Thoi Le, and his younger Brother Minh Le.

There will be 2 visitations; Sunday, April 14th from 1 – 3 PM and Monday, April 15th from 3 – 5 PM both in the Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel; 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, KS 67401. A Celebration of Life and Mass will be on Tuesday, April 16th, at 10 AM in the St. Mary of Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St, Salina, KS 67401.

Peggy Adele McConkey September 24, 1932 ~ April 5, 2024

Peggy Adele McConkey, 91, of Salina, entered Heaven on April 5, 2024. Peggy was born in Junction City, KS on September 24, 1932 to Luke and Mable Owens.

Peggy lived her life placing God first. She started each morning and ended every day in prayer, reading her favorite book, the Bible. She was dedicated to her church, First Assembly of God now known as Heartland Worship Center Assembly of God, sitting in the second row, middle section every Sunday. She served the church for many years setting up communion and cleaning the building. Peggy loved her family and doted on her children and grandchildren by making specially designed shaped birthday cakes including bunny rabbits, pink elephants, and her crème’ de la crème’ the Star Trek Enterprise Ship. She loved to make all kinds of fudge and all flavors of cream cheese wedding mints with specialty shapes for every occasion. She loved plants, old westerns on TV, and riding her yellow bicycle made for two.

She worked hard retiring from Kansas Wesleyan University after many years as a custodian of the girls’ dorm. Being a single mother, she supplemented her income delivering newspapers for the Salina Journal, at times up to 5 paper routes per morning, earning her several awards as The Salina Journal Carrier of the Year.

Peggy is remembered for her love for Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior, her dedication to her family including her church family, and her spunky personality.

She was preceded in death by her daughter and best friend, Patricia; parents; brothers, James, Gerald, Donald, David, Carl and Gene; and sisters, Catherine Alexander and Ruth Monosmith.

She is survived by: her daughters, Susan (Bill) Naecker and Jane (David) Lerret; sons Mark, Phillip, and Paul; grandchildren, Angela, Fawn, Paul Timothy, Amanda, Dove, Joan, Matthew, David and Luke; 27 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sister, Betty Ann; brother, William; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. &nbsp;

Peggy will live on in our hearts forever. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, at Heartland Worship Center 118 S. 8th St in Salina.

Memorials may be made to the church in memory of Peggy McConkey.

Etta Bethe August 7, 1934 ~ April 11, 2024

Elaine Williams Bethe, born Etta Elaine Perry on August 7, 1934, in Junction City, Kansas, passed away on April 11, 2024, in Abilene, Kansas, at the age of 89. She was married to Conley Williams on February 11, 1950. To this marriage were born 5 children. They later divorced and Elaine married Donald Bethe on May 13, 1989. She was the matriarch of her immediate and extended family. Her greatest joy was raising her family and watching them spread their wings as they went out into the world.

Elaine, a graduate of Brown-Mackey Business College, had a successful career as the executive secretary at Great Plains Insurance Company in Salina, Kansas, until her retirement. She was a dedicated member of Carlton First Presbyterian and New Basel United Church of Christ places of worship.

She loved to swim, and watch her kids and grand children play sports. Later, she spent time at the lake fishing and who could forget all the nights playing pinochle and bridge. In her free time, Elaine enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, watching sports, and raising her five children. She will be remembered for her love of family and her nurturing spirit.

Elaine is survived by her children: Walt (Kathy) Williams of Wilton, IA, JoLane (Charles) Poindexter of Roanoke, Virginia, Richard (Kimberly) Williams of Bangs, TX, Vona (Terry) Schwarz of Carlton, KS, Keith (Marla) Williams of Bangs, TX, along with 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Surviving step children are Candy (Will) Green of Hutchinson, KS, Mark (Holly) Bethe of Hope, KS., 6 step grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Conley Williams and Don Bethe, five siblings and stepson Alan Bethe.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 8:00 am at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Burial will be at 2pm at Woodlawn Cemetery of rural Carlton. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County, Abilene, KS.

Her greatest joy was raising her family and watching them spread their wings as they went out into the world.Elaine, a graduate of Brown-Mackey Business College, had a successful career as the executive secretary at Great Plains Insurance Company in Salina, Kansas, until her retirement. She was a dedicated member of Carlton First Presbyterian and New Basel United Church of Christ places of worship.She loved to swim, and watch her kids and grand children play sports. Later, she spent time at the lake fishing and who could forget all the nights playing pinochle and bridge. In her free time, Elaine enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, watching sports, and raising her five children. She will be remembered for her love of family and her nurturing spirit.Elaine is survived by her children: Walt (Kathy) Williams of Wilton, IA, JoLane (Charles) Poindexter of Roanoke, Virginia, Richard (Kimberly) Williams of Bangs, TX, Vona (Terry) Schwarz of Carlton, KS, Keith (Marla) Williams of Bangs, TX, along with 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Christina (Chris) Marie Savery, 56, of Abilene passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at home.

She was born on August 22, 1967, in Abilene, KS, the daughter of John and Maggie Brunner. She grew up in Abilene and enjoyed playing softball and hanging out with her family and friends.

She worked for Great Plains Manufacturing for 15 years. Chris enjoyed spending time with her seven grandchildren and watching her favorite sports teams; the Jayhawks, Chiefs, and Royals.

Chris is survived by her two sons Travis (and Hannah) Savery of Abilene, Tyler (and Heather) Savery of Salina; seven grandchildren: Houston, Henry, Hudson, Emmett, Isaac, Simon, and Nora Savery.She was preceded in death by her husband Jeff Savery, parents John and Maggie Brunner, brothers Richard, Roger, and Bob Brunner, and sister Debbie Parks.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, April 18 from 5-7 p.m. at the Carlson Becker funeral home in Abilene, KS. A graveside service will be held on April 19 at 2 p.m. at the Hope, KS cemetery

Don Keith Simmelink January 21, 1932 ~ April 10, 2024&nbsp;

Don Keith Simmelink was born to Maurice and Pauline Simmelink on January 21st 1932. He left his earthly body surrounded by his family as he was united with Jesus on April 10th, 2024 at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, KS. He was born near Cawker City Kansas, then moved to Ionia, KS with his parents in 1939. While living in Ionia although he was very young he helped his parents by working in the Produce Station. During the early years of elementary school, he would ride his horse to and from school every day. In 1950 he graduated from Ionia High school. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Cheyenne Wyoming for 4 years. On November 11th, 1951 He married Shirley Tullar in Jewell Kansas at the Methodist Church. After they married they lived in Cheyenne for a brief time until he moved back to Kansas to start his farm. He spent the remainder of his life building a successful farm operation. Once his physical health required him to retire, he spent the rest of his days living vicariously through his Grandson as he mentored him through building his own farm operation.

Don enjoyed many things throughout his life here on earth such as farming, dancing, horseback riding and spending time with his family and friends. Most of all he enjoyed laughter. It didn’t matter whether you spent ten seconds or ten hours with Don, his orneriness was guaranteed to provide you with laughter during every encounter you had with him. Family was important to Don, he spent countless hours with his Grandchildren. Whether it be in the bleachers of a sporting event, on the back of a horse during a trail ride or just sitting in his recliner carrying on a conversation about life. Don was especially proud of his Grandchildren and would often tell people “If I would have known my Grandkids would be so much fun, I would have had them first.”&nbsp;

Don will be missed greatly by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Resident Care Center in Beloit. Three children, Donna (Charlie) Reed of Cheyenne Wyoming, Dale Simmelink of Ionia KS and Dee (Curtis) Shamburg of Portis, Ks, a sister Jane (Jerry) Patton of Wichita, Ks; 15 Grandchildren, 2 step Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Pauline Simmelink, Brother Edwin Simmelink a Grandson and a Great Grandson.

Visitation will be Sunday April 14, 2024 from 2:00pm – 7:00pm with the family receiving friends from 3:00pm – 5:00pm at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, KS.

Funeral Services will be Monday April 15, 2024 at 10:00am at the Jewell Community Center, Jewell, KS with Pastor Charlie Reed Officiating.

Burial will follow the service at the Jewell City Cemetery, Jewell, KS.

Military Honors will be provided by McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Christopher Keith Hrabe November 14, 1958 ~ April 4, 2024

Christopher Keith Hrabe, 65, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at KU Medical Center. He was born November 14, 1958, in Ellis County to Dorothy Ann (Thyfault) and Doyal Keith Hrabe.&nbsp; Services: Friday April 12, 2024, Visitation 4:00-6:00 p.m. with vigil services starting at 6:00 p.m., rosary following the services at Sacred Heart Cathedral.&nbsp; Saturday April 13, 2024, Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Chris was united in marriage to Jeannie (Keiter) on November 26, 1983, in Hartington, Nebraska. Andrew Christopher joined the family June 23, 1990.&nbsp; Chris grew up in Stockton, KS. He graduated in 1976 from Stockton High School. He went on to get an associate degree at KTI (Kansas Technical Institute). He returned home to work at The Home Shop with Uncle Don and Aunt Janie. In 1992 the family moved to Salina, KS. He volunteered and worked at Vocational Rehabilitation Center. Then on September 7, 1998, received a double lung transplant at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. August of 1999 Chris was hired as a Communication Specialist II for the Kansas Highway Patrol and worked there for 24 years. After battling lymphoma twice, on March 23, 2023, Chris received a stem cell transplant at KU Medical Center. Chris retired from the Highway Patrol on November 5, 2023, and on November 20, 2023 started working part-time at Salina Regional Healthcare Center as a Valet Attendant.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Doyal and Dorthy and in-laws, Joe and Margaret; brothers, Brad and Alec Hrabe; brother-in-law, Brad Muir; sister-in-law, Carol Jo Hrabe; nephew, Michael Mongeau and niece, Tasha Keiter.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie; and son, Andrew of Salina; favorite sister, Regina Muir of Stockton, KS; sisters-in-law, Mary (Vern) Seier of Norfolk, NE, Carol (Dave) Gubbels of Baudette, MN, Dianne (Adam) Hall of Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law, Bob (Jolene) Keiter of Gretna, NE, Dave (Diane) Keiter of Kearney, NE, Dan (Belinda) Keiter of Columbus, NE, Larry (Laura) Keiter of Lincoln, NE; best friends, Eric and Francia Bird of El Dorado, KS; and 23 nieces and nephews and 48 great nieces and nephews.

His life was one of helping others. No job was too small or too big for him.&nbsp; He was an excellent handyman. He loved working with his hands, mowing lawns, doing odd jobs for others. He volunteered for anything and everything. He loved playing cards, attending family gatherings, Hrabe Reunions, walking and enjoying his cats. He cared deeply for the people in his life. He was a member of Stockton Alumni, active in the Knights of Columbus (Council #7674 &amp; #601), parishioner of Sacred Heart Cathedral, and an advocate for Organ Donation. As his last act of volunteering, Chris donated his body to medical research. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral for masses, to Stockton EMS, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Heart of America Chapter in Kansas City, MO., or per family wishes. Once his remains are returned from KU Science Research Center, his final resting place will be at Stockton Cemetery.

Jerry Joseph Martin, 69, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born June 15, 1954, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Bob and Rita Martin. Jerry graduated from Salina Central High School in 1972.

Jerry spent much of his childhood helping on his grandfather’s farm near Solomon. This started his love for agriculture at a very young age. In 1974, Jerry joined Rickel Manufacturing of Salina KS, maker of the Big A fertilizer applicator as a sales coordinator/dispatcher and later became a sales representative. He continued to grow in the field with mergers and acquisitions of Ag-Chem Equipment Co, then AGCO to become a Salesman, Sales Manager, a Regional Manager covering the state of Kansas, the Midwest, then the western US. Jerry retired from Lang Diesel in 2021. Jerry was well known and respected by many in his field but the titles he held most important were husband, dad and grandpa.

Jerry’s wife of 48 years, Julie, preceded him in death last year. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Ankenbauer (Bill) of Lawrence and sons Andrew (Monica) and Timothy of San Antonio, TX, brothers Larry (Carry), Dan (Jo), sisters Karen Morgan &amp; Janet Linenberger (Tim) all of Salina. Jerry and Julie were also blessed with five grandchildren: Matthew of San Antonio TX, Nate, Ty, Macy and Lukas of Lawrence.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Bob &amp; Rita Martin.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in Jerry’s honor later.

Bill McFall 78 of Crane, MO died March 2, 2024 at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, MO.

Bill was born July 18,1945 in Beverly, Kansas to Lewis and Rosie McFall. Bill attended Hedville Elementary, and Graduated from Brookville High school. Bill worked during High school for Leland Johnson of Brookville Kansas. Leland made a great impact in Bill’s life.

Bill served with honor in the United states army 1965-1967. He graduated from Hutchinson College, and attended Wichita State University.

Bill Married Sharon Dowson December 24, 1970 in Salina, Kansas. He worked for C.R. England, Salt Lake City, Utah for 27 years.

Bill is survived by his wife Sharon, two sons Richard Lee Innis, Charles Kelly McFall, two daughters Alana Diane Powers, Kathy Loveland, 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one brother Jim McFall, and one sister Mary Base.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Rosie Mae McFall, a sister Rosie Mae Sader, two grand children Ski McFall, and Joseph Powers.

Family has planned to celebrate his life at a later date.

Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Lane, 89 of Baldwin City, KS passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2024 with her family by her side.&nbsp;

The visitation and funeral mass will be said Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Annunciation Catholic Church, 740 North 6th Street, Baldwin City, KS. Family will greet friends for a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church parish hall.&nbsp; A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. and the Funeral Mass that will begin at 11:00 AM.

Kathy was born August 1, 1934 to Fred and Mildred Renner in Cunningham, Kansas. She grew up on a small farm and attended elementary school in both St. Leo and Willowdale, Kansas. Kathy later attended Junior High and High School in Kingman, Kansas where she graduated in 1952.&nbsp;

From an early age Kathy wanted to be a nurse and so after high school she went on to nursing school in Great Bend, KS. Kathy excelled at nursing school where she was class president all three years and graduated with honors in 1955. After graduation, Kathy worked as a young nurse at Saint Rose Hospital in Great Bend. Her parents had moved to Leoti, Kansas to farm, and so Kathy in 1956 wanting to be closer to her family took a job at the hospital in Leoti.&nbsp;

Kathy met and married the love of her life, Ross Lane on October 19, 1957 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, KS and they were able to raise 4 boys and celebrate 65 years together before Ross passed away on August 29th, 2023.&nbsp;

Kathy became the school nurse for the Leoti School District in 1965 and continued in that position until the family moved to Baldwin City, KS in 1976. Kathy loved her job as school nurse where she was able to care for so many and where she started the Migrant Care Program to help the most needy in Wichita County.&nbsp;

The Lane family moved to Baldwin City, KS on Thanksgiving weekend in 1976. Kathy worked as a nurse at the hospital in Ottawa, KS until Baker University hired Kathy in 1977 to be the nurse at the university. She was thrilled and loved being a school nurse again. It was her dream job. Tragically, Kathy was injured in a terrible car accident in the fall of 1978 coming home from her son's football game in Wellsville, KS.&nbsp;

Kathy was forced to retire after the accident. Her eyesight was permanently damaged and she was left legally blind. She didn't let those obstacles keep her down long. She decided to go back to school, and though it was hard she was able to take one class at a time and used a magnify glass to read. She graduated with a Psychology degree with her youngest son Grant in 1987. It was an amazing day for all of us.&nbsp;

Kathy treasured her time with her boys. She never missed a ball game and could always be heard in the stands yelling her famous Yahoo. Kathy was a proud member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Baldwin and served on many committees through the years. She was always willing to help with the Maple Leaf festival booth and do whatever she could to help her fellow parishioners.&nbsp;

Ross and Kathy were blessed with four sons; Mike (Denise) Lane, grandson Matt, granddaughter Kayley, and great-granddaughters Lucy &amp; Katie; Russ (Annette) grandson Tyler (Jami) Lane and great grandson Carter, great-granddaughters Hannah and Lauren, granddaughter Jessica (Ross) Knutson and great-granddaughter Sloan and great-grandsons Cohen and Landon, granddaughter Samantha (Bo) Tiller and great-granddaughter Rosalie, granddaughter Abigail (Tanner) Hughes and great-granddaughter June and great-grandson Trent; Rob (Nancy) Lane and granddaughters Jordan (Blaise, fiancé) and Teresa; Grant (Lori) Lane and grandsons Jaylen, Jaron, and Joseph and granddaughter Jocelyn (Tom) Mailloux and great-grandson Leo. Kathy is also survived by four Sisters-in-law, Pat Renner, Judy Renner, Dorothy Renner and Nevada Parker.&nbsp;

Kathy was predeceased by her parents Fred and Mildred Renner and siblings Robert (Pat) Renner, Peggy (Lawrence) Goetz, Marilyn (Keith) Appl, Father Ronald Renner, Ken (Judy) Renner, Judy (James) Biel, Jim (Dorothy) Renner, Dinah Rae Renner and granddaughter Kimber Rose Lane who passed away on January 10, 2021.&nbsp;

Roy Wayne McIver February 9, 1959 ~ April 7, 2024

Roy W. McIver, 65 of Carbondale, KS passed away April 7, 2024 in his home. He was born in Hutchinson, KS on February 9, 1959 to Richard and Lona McIver, both preceding him in death in 2011 and 2020, respectively.

He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1977. During his time there, he was active in JROTC and enjoyed playing the drums; both of which he pursued in adulthood. He played drums for various musical groups and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1977-1982&nbsp; and the Air National Guard from 1986-2003, participating in the Persian Gulf Wars and Desert Storm, before retiring as Master Sergeant. He also worked as a private contractor for the United States Postal Service for 25 years.

Roy married his wife, Toni on May 25, 1985. Toni precedes Roy in death, passing away in 2018. Roy and Toni had one child, who passed away at birth on February 19, 1995. The love that they weren't able to share with their child was spread amongst 13 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew.&nbsp;

He also had a love for animals, but none more than Midnight, the cat he and Toni shared, who passed away in 2021 and his dog, Bear, who passed away in 2020. During the winter months, Roy followed in his parents’ footsteps, vacationing in Port Aransas, TX, always with his younger sister, Tina as his traveling companion.&nbsp;

He is survived by his brothers, Bill McIver, Topeka, KS; Nolan McIver, Council Grove, KS and a sister, Tina McIver (-Morrison), Topeka, KS.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday April 19, 2024 at Ridgeway Cemetery, Carbondale, KS. Visitation and viewing will be at the cemetery at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service Friday.

Joan B. Danner (Joanie) June 21, 1937 ~ April 8, 2024

Joan B. Danner (Joanie) was born June 21, 1937 to parents Owen Love Gallaher and Sylvia B. Gallaher (Salmons) in Winningkoff, Texas. Winningkoff was a magical place for Joanie, as her grandfather, Lee Gallaher, owned a farm there and she spent many happy times at his home. She and her cousin, Jimmy, spent their days riding horses without a saddle and cooking potatoes on a fire they set up down by the always ice cold spring, enjoying times when friends and family would gather for music where many of the attendees would play the piano, guitars, banjoes, fiddles, etc. and just have a fun, musical evening. It truly was a magical place that even many years later, she would think of with much love and happiness. Joanie’s father, Owen, died when she was five and her older brother, Love, was 10. Joanie went to her first year of school at the country, two-room schoolhouse that her grandfather, Lee Gallaher, helped build years before. Joanie had a younger sister, Sandra Kay, and along with brother, Love, and mother, Sylvia, they settled in Plano, Texas and Joanie completed her schooling in Plano graduating from high school in 1956 in a class of 52. Plano had a population of just over 2000 and was a sleepy, Mayberry-type of great place to grow up. Plano now has a population of 285,500. Joanie was a majorette for four years and loved marching each year in the annual Cotton Bowl football game parade. She was a class officer all four years of high school. Joanie worked at the local newspaper as the high school reporter and wrote up articles about the student activities and sports.

After high school, Joanie attended TWU (Texas Woman’s University) in Denton, Texas, majoring in art and journalism. Joanie then went to work at the Earle M. Jorgensen Steel Company, where she was the Inside Sales secretary for seven salesmen. She later worked at Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors and was the Assistant Zone Manager’s secretary, and also operated one of the very first key punch machines for ordering cars for the Pontiac Dealers. While living in Dallas, Joanie was asked to be one of the models for the Clifton Wilhite Company, which designed ball gowns and evening wear sold all over America.August 18, 1962 Joanie was united in marriage to Richard Danner. They left Dallas and moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Richard finished up his college degree and Joanie worked as the first secretary for the White Lakes Mall Shopping Center, which was just getting tenants and beginning construction. They moved back to Abilene and Richard joined his father, Ray, in operating the Danner Funeral Home. Joanie worked as secretary to Principal George Madelen at Abilene High School and later was secretary to Bob Pierce at the Duckwall Stores, later to be known as ALCO. Richard and Joanie divorced in 1983. To this marriage, two daughters were born, Angela Kay Danner and Amy Rae (Danner) Flinn.

Joanie loved entertaining and had many dinner parties and enjoyed making delicious meals for her friends. Her favorite thing to do was go to antique sales all over town and surrounding country auctions. She refinished over 30 pieces of furniture and loved going to her furniture refinishing class. During these years, Joanie also started a new hobby of painting in oils and acrylics. Over the years, Joanie belonged to many organizations which included Junior Thursday Study Club in Texas, Jaycee Jaynes, Abilene Country Club, Junior League, Gourmet Club, Birthday Club, Buckeye Saddle Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and 4H Cooking Teacher. Joanie designed every inch of her beautiful home, Windy Hill Farm, and she loved being there so very much. Joanie also loved gardening, and her favorite flower was roses of all kinds. She had many rose bushes, which gave her great joy.

Joanie worked at the Topeka, Kansas Police Department, Records Division, for seven years as a Senior Records Clerk and seven years as a Supervisor in Records. Joanie retired from this job in August 2001 and moved back to Abilene.

Joanie loved playing with her three grandchildren, Landon Flinn and twins Millie and Jimmy Danner-Homer, and she became quite the lover of children once they were born. She had been a curmudgeon about children until they came along, and all of a sudden, children were wonderful! Joanie is preceded in death by her parents, Owen L. Gallaher Sr, Sylvia B. Gallaher Wims and Weldon Wims, brother Owen Love Jr, nephews John Owen and Darryl Gallaher, and niece Cheryl Scovill. She is survived by daughters, Angela Kay Danner and Amy Rae Flinn (Steve), her grandchildren, Landon Flinn, Millie Danner-Homer, and Jimmy Danner-Homer, sister Kay and husband James Christopher, niece Karen Caramela and husband Jon Phenicie, and great niece Morgan Jenson, sister-in-law Beatrice Gallaher, nieces Beth Ann Gallaher, Brenda and husband Dennis Hozak, great nephew Brandon Hozak, and nephew Bryan Gallaher.

In her later years, Joanie had many health issues and her life became very different, as she could not get around without a rollator, so the once very lively lady became very much a stay at home person. During this time, she spent many happy hours creating beautiful scrapbooks for her daughters and grandchildren that they will cherish forever. She especially enjoyed spending time with Angela and the twins in Kansas City and with Amy and her family in St. George, KS.

Cremation has been chosen and Joanie requested that no services be held. Joanie loved her family and friends, and she would wish each one to remember at least one happy time they had spent with her and keep her in their memories. Memorials may be made in Joanie’s memory to the Abilene Public Library in care of Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, KS.

Allen Blaine Asbridge-Reed January 19, 1957 ~ April 4, 2024

Allen Blaine Asbridge Reed, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday morning, April 4th, 2024, at his home. He was born January 19th, 1957, at the Schilling Air Force Base Hospital in Salina, to one Allen Conrad Reed and Connie J. (Aills) Reed Asbridge.

Blaine worked his teenage years for Paul and John Miller, at Millers Produce Market. While working for the Millers, Blaine always made sure that his family had plenty of Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Fresh tomatoes, and much more. He also worked for Loux Home Improvements, which was owned by his grandmother LeeElla Esse and Arthur J. Loux. He also worked for some time at Midwest Security and Ballou Construction.

Blaine then served his country in the US Army. After that, he moved to Minnesota and started his own painting service for the newly built apartments in the community.

Blaine grew up in the Saina area and he attended Central High School. (Go Mustangs).

Blaine is survived by his sons, Ryan Will (Nichole) of Bavaria, KS, and Brad (Jessica) Reed of Salina. His grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Zakery, Dayton, Donivyn, Zayne, Erica, Madelynn, and Carter. Then he has a Great-Grandbaby Hollister and the pending arrival of Nova, He is also survived by his mother, Connie J (Aills) Asbridge Wilson of Salina, stepmother, Janis Poskey of Washington, IL, Grandmother Betty Aills of Salina. He also had a great love for his siblings, Brothers, Mike (Candi) Asbridge and Douglas Asbridge, both of Salina, Sisters, LeeElla (James) Vittoe and Laura Asbridge, both of Salina, and Jera Lynn (Tegan) McCullough of Washington, IL. Blaine is preceded in death by his father’s, Allen Conrad Reed, and Jerry S. (Jake) Asbridge, Sr. His grandparents LeeElla, Alvin and Winifred Burch, Lester Aills, and Ray Asbridge. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry S. Asbridge, Jr. and Sister, Winifred K. Hall.

Blaine was a member of the Ray Avenue Baptist Church, Salina, which was started by his Uncle Dr. Bob Aills, who preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Blaine’s Life will be at a later date, to be announced.

He was born January 19th, 1957, at the Schilling Air Force Base Hospital in Salina, to one Allen Conrad Reed and Connie J. (Aills) Reed Asbridge.Blaine worked his teenage years for Paul and John Miller, at Millers Produce Market. While working for the Millers, Blaine always made sure that his family had plenty of Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Fresh tomatoes, and much more. He also worked for Loux Home Improvements, which was owned by his grandmother LeeElla Esse and Arthur J. Loux. He also worked for some time at Midwest Security and Ballou Construction.Blaine then served his country in the US Army. After that, he moved to Minnesota and started his own painting service for the newly built apartments in the community.Blaine grew up in the Saina area and he attended Central High School. (Go Mustangs).Blaine is survived by his sons, Ryan Will (Nichole) of Bavaria, KS, and Brad (Jessica) Reed of Salina. His grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Zakery, Dayton, Donivyn, Zayne, Erica, Madelynn, and Carter. Then he has a Great-Grandbaby Hollister and the pending arrival of Nova, He is also survived by his mother, Connie J (Aills) Asbridge Wilson of Salina, stepmother, Janis Poskey of Washington, IL, Grandmother Betty Aills of Salina. Joseph Robert “Rob” Harper, here for a good time, not a long time left this place to join the higher spirits in the sky at 12:08am on April 3, 2024. He was surrounded by his family who are left to walk this world without his big, bold presence, but comforted by the fact that his spirit will continue in all of the family and friends who’s lives he touched.

Rob loved motorcycles, casinos, and his extended, blended family. He loved to tinker and fix broken things, make you laugh, and was always willing to help anyone that needed it. On a nice day you could find him out on a boat enjoying his solitude or out on a golf course riding a golf cart wherever he pleased, as long as it was NOT the designated path.

Rob is survived by his better half of 21 years; Amy Jensen of Salina, KS. Daughters: Heather Schmidt (Steve Allen) of Wichita, KS; and Kelly Hedden (Tommy) of Kentucky. Ashley Dibbens (Derek) of Derby, KS. Alisha Hurd (Caleb Grundy) of Salina, KS; and Caleb Hurd of Kansas. Sisters: Debbie Hop (Tom) of Virginia; and Connie Garcia of Hutchinson, KS. Grandchildren: Alex, Alana (Parker), Eric, Savannah, Easton, Sophie, and Brodie. Jerry L. Watkins, 70, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on March 27, 1953 in Salina to Norma “Norm” and Helen (Kissick) Watkins.&nbsp;

Jerry lived and farmed in Tescott his entire life.&nbsp; In his free time he loved hunting, fishing and his dogs.&nbsp; He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Lyle Norland.

He is survived by his sister, Jolene Norland and several cousins.&nbsp; Memorials to the American Heart Association, or the family for expenses, or charity of the donor’s choice.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday April 20, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Tescott.&nbsp;

Gene Edgar Schlesener September 17, 1943 ~ April 4, 2024

Gene Edgar Schlesener&nbsp; passed away on April 4, 2024 at Salina Regional Health Center after his second battle with cancer.

Gene was born on his parents' farm just South of hope on September 17th 1943. After Gene graduated Hope High School in 1961. He went to work and continued to work on the farm.

He was employed at CE later, known as ABB for 35 years. He then began a career at API in Carlton, all the while farming and providing for his family, retiring at the age of 70.October of 1963. He was married to Evelyn J. Rickenbrode. They worked farmed and raised their young family until Evelyn's death in March of 1978.

In August of 1979, Gene was wed to Rhonda Schwartz. They welcomed a son in 1980, but later parted ways in 1991.For twenty seven years, he was the partner and later husband of Patty (Martin) Schlesener, who preceded him in death in 2023.

Gene&nbsp; was an avid farmer and loved all things agriculture.&nbsp; Enjoy tractor polls, drag races and watching cowboy shows.&nbsp; His greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Marie; sisters Lavonn and Virginia; son Timothy; son Doug; wife Evelyn; and wife Patty.

He is survived by his sister Marlene of Minnesota; his children, Brad Schlesener, Justin Schlesener and Kimberly (Richardson) Schlesener. Granddaughters Cassie (Ed Kohman), Mara, Robin, Heidi Lexi, Davanne, and Evelyn. Grandson's Cody (Rachel) and Dawson and two great grandchildren, Clara and Reed.

The family suggest memorials to Tammy Walker Cancer Center.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life is scheduled for May 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hope Annex in Hope, Kansas.

Ruth Eileen Phillips June 15, 1927 ~ April 9, 2024

Ruth Eileen Phillips, 96, passed away April 9th at The Village Manor, Abilene, KS.She was born June 15, 1927, on a farm in the Gypsum community, to Roy A. and Velma (Beetch) Woods.

After the sudden accidental death of her father in 1932, the family was moved to the Carlton community. She attended the local school and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1945. She worked for the American Telephone Company upon graduation.

On May 7th, 1950, she was united in marriage with Dale Walter Phillips in the Carlton Presbyterian Church. To this union three children were born. Dalene Marie, Steven Leroy, and Gerald Duane.

Most of their married life was spent in the Carlton area. She took over the farm as her husband’s health failed, and she also served as a receptionist at Brown Memorial Home later in her life and volunteered with Hospice.

The two most important things in her life were her family and her church, where she was an active lifelong member. While she would have loved to have had her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren live closer, she was proud of the achievements they made as productive citizens and in their business careers.

She is survived by her daughter Dalene Judd, Hayward, WI, her son Jerry and his wife Jean, Austin, TX, and her daughter in law, Sharon Phillips Dowell, Knoxville, TN. She is survived by 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, son Steve, her parents, her sister Elsie Viola, sister Rose Michau, and brother Carl.

Services are at Martin-Becker-Carlson funeral home, with the viewing and visitation on April 12th from 5:00-7:00pm and the funeral service at the funeral home at 10:30 on Saturday, April 13th. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery outside of Carlton.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to contribute to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN or the Carlton First Presbyterian Church Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation of Dickinson County, Inc.

Lester Leroy Mockerman October 16, 1934 ~ April 9, 2024

Lester Leroy Mockerman, 89, of Holyrood, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 9th, 2024.

Lester was born in Tescott, Kansas on October 16, 1934, a son of Josephine (Meurisse) and Adam Mockerman.

He attended most of his school years at Brookville, where he played on the 1952 winning basketball championship team.

Lester served in the United States Army in Germany from 1957 - 1959.

On March 12, 1961, Lester married Pauline McDowell and to this union, they were blessed with their children, Scott and Tammy.

He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Saline County.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline, his children, Scott Mockerman (B.J.) and Tammy Mockerman, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Lester is also survived by his sister, Della Smith, and brother, Victor Mockerman (Myrna).

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Linford Mockerman; and sister, Rose Myers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 11th at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
