Jessica Dudley, age 41, entered into rest on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at her home in Concordia, Kansas. &nbsp; She was born on August 14, 1982, in Mountain View, California to John Morse and LouAnn Dudley.

She attended high school in San Jose, California.

She enjoyed coloring, thrift stores, garage sales, playing the lottery and most of all her beloved animals.

She is survived by her significant other, Andrew Hale, Concordia, KS; mother, LouAnn Dudley of Concordia, KS; her father John Morse of California; a sister, Tiffany Detterline, Concordia, KS; three brothers, Danny Dudley (Mandy), Concordia, KS; Kevin Rosch, Concordia, KS; Jonathan Horn of CA; grandmother, Dolores Dudley, CA; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and several close friends.

She was preceded by her stepfather, Robert Rosch, stepmother, Maria Morse, paternal grandparents, Pam and Lynn Morse; maternal grandfather, John Dudley and her aunt, Crystal Agius.

Jessica’s family chose cremation, and the family will hold services at a later time.

Jeff E. Backstrom May 18, 1960 ~ June 16, 2024

Jeff E. Backstrom, age 64, formerly of Concordia, KS, played his final round of golf and cast his last fishing line on Sunday, June 16, 2024 surrounded by his family at Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems, Beloit, KS. &nbsp;He was born on May 18, 1960 in Wakefield, NE to Dean H.L. &amp; Norma L. (Erwin) Backstrom.

Jeff graduated from Wayne High School in 1978, Wayne, NE. &nbsp;In his early years he worked for Heritage Homes in Wayne and worked in custom farming for Kenny Austin. &nbsp;On September 11, 1982, Jeff married Wanda A. Reitz in Grand Island, NE. &nbsp;They continued to live in Wayne until they moved to Concordia, KS in 1985. &nbsp;He worked for ABB Raymond, Alstom Power and Pre-Heater and then Arvos until 2016 when the plant closed. He was one of the original 26 that returned to the plant in 2017 with Concordia Technologies. &nbsp;Jeff worked in several areas throughout his career in the painting department, inventory specialist, sandblasting, inventory control/prefab and later as a supervisor and manager for the metal prefab department until an accident forced him to retire in 2023.

All throughout his life, Jeff loved to fish, hunt, play golf and drive a boat! &nbsp;In his younger years, he played slow pitch softball, ‘old man’ basketball and anything that got him out of the house. &nbsp;He was especially fond of family and friends’ trips to the mountains and snow skiing.He enjoyed playing cards, collecting coins, his Husker football and Husker sports in general.The last few years, he and Wanda enjoyed their time with family and friends at Waconda Lake.

Jeff was involved with his children’s activities from junior golf to baseball, basketball, track and field, especially pole vaulting. &nbsp;Jeff’s pride and joy was becoming a grandpa to Culver, Thomas, Palmer and Colter. &nbsp;He loved to teach them things about hunting, fishing, life lessons and just spending time with them. &nbsp;They are the reason he fought so hard in his battle after his accident and throughout his cancer journey. &nbsp;

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, former member of the ELKS Lodge in Concordia KS, Cloud County Ducks Unlimited and the Concordia Country Club, American Legion Golf Course and Concordia Golf &amp; Wellness.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda, Beloit, KS; son, Beau Backstrom (Ana), Big Sky, MT; daughter, Mallory Hulett, (Connor), Beloit, KS; grandchildren, Culver, Palmer &amp; Colter Hulett and Thomas Backstrom; sister, Nancy Lind (Terry), Louisville, CO; several nieces &amp; nephews and too many friends to count.

It was Jeff's wishes to be cremated but he wanted to have one last party and have “one more before we all go home” at 5 pm, Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the Concordia Golf &amp; Wellness golf course, 600 W. 13th St., Concordia, KS. &nbsp;Friends may sign the register book from 1-8 pm with a Rosary service at 6 pm and the family greeting friends from 6:30-7:30 pm, Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS. &nbsp;In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Cloud County Ducks Unlimited for Lifetime Youth Hunting Licenses. Violet L. (Gourley) Daleen June 11, 1928 ~ June 10, 2024

Violet L. Daleen, age, 95, a resident of Lisle, IL went to her eternal home on Monday, June 10, 2024, after a brief illness. She spent her final days at peace surrounded by her family. She was born June 11, 1928 in Lincoln, KS to Jesse &amp; Susan Gourley.

Violet was a loving and devoted Mother, Grammy, sister, friend and teacher, always putting others before herself. She had the most loving heart and gentle way, touching the lives of many with her grace, humility and inner strength.

Violet especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and became a significant influence in their lives. Independent and strong, Violet was also a woman of faith who loved the Lord, her family and community. She was a 66 year resident of Wheaton, IL and a long time member of Wheaton Bible Church in Wheaton, IL, enjoying the many friendships made along the way.

Violet received a teaching certificate from Fort Hays State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. Later, she completed her Master’s Degree in Education from Governors State University. Violet went on to have a long and rewarding teaching career at Roy Spalding and Ben Franklin schools in Glen Ellyn, IL for nearly 30 years. She loved teaching and quickly became a ‘favorite’ among students and staff alike for her warm and patient style.

After retiring, Violet enjoyed traveling, gardening, nurturing her beloved geraniums and most of all spending time with family and friends. Celebrating the Fourth of July was a day she especially enjoyed.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children and grandchildren, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children Stephanie (James) Abbott, Andrew Daleen, and Suzanne (Scott) Erickson, her grandchildren, Joshua (Krystin) &amp; Matthew Erickson, and Ryan &amp; Lauren Daleen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse &amp; Susan Gourley and her siblings: Helen Bachman, Dee Gourley, Keith Gourley, and Vance Gourley.

Visitation will be held at Hall Chapel at 111 East Elm, Lincoln, KS on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with a service following at 11:00 a.m. Burial immediately following at Lincoln Cemetery.

Richard "Dick" L. Janssen September 26, 1940 ~ June 12, 2024

Richard “Dick” Janssen, 83, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at his home near Ellsworth, KS. He was born September 26, 1940 in Ellsworth to Herschel “Pete” Janssen and Marian (Craig) Janssen. Dick was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County. He earned his B.S. in Animal Science and Industry Zoology from Kansas State University in 1964. While attending college, he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and Block and Bridle. He married Shelly Keener at the Ellsworth First Presbyterian Church on November 27, 1974. Dick was a member of Ellsworth First Presbyterian Church where he served many years as a deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher. In his professional life, Dick was the owner and operator of Green Garden Angus Farm, a family farm established in 1932. He also served as president of the American Angus Association.

Dick is survived by his wife Shelly Janssen; daughter, Stacey Janssen and her children, Charles, Ellyn, and Andrew Gunya; daughter, Jacque Mingle (Steve) and her children, Atom and Dinah Mingle; daughter, Patricia Pratt and her children Henry and Stella Pratt; son, Ben Janssen (Anisha) and his children, Elliott and Sophie Janssen; daughter, Elizabeth Perkins (Dustin) and her children, Cassandra and William Duncan and Annabelle and Jane Perkins; and sisters, Arva Jo Walker and Joyce Janssen. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Arlo Janssen; sister Rachel Janssen; nieces, Shaunna Fox and Stephanie Brownlee; infant niece Tamra Boeken; brothers-in-law, Duane Walker and Donald Walker; and son-in-law Jeff Pratt.

Jean Marie “Jeanie” Boeken, 76, passed away peacefully Monday, June 3, 2024, in Wilson, Kansas. She was born July 28, 1947, in Ellsworth, Kansas to Dallas and Margaret Mary (Burrows) Boeken, both lifetime residents of Holyrood, Kansas.&nbsp;

Jeanie graduated from Holyrood High School, class of 1965. She attended college at Mary Mount University in Salina, Kansas and later went to cosmetology school in Texas and became a licensed cosmetologist.&nbsp;

Jeanie was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and spoke of Him to anyone who would listen. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, visiting and playing card games, dice and dominoes. Jeanie also loved to take country cruises on the county blacktops, this was one of her favorite pastimes.

Jeanie is survived by her two daughters, Ramona Blakley (Fredrick) of Granbury, Texas and Crystal Podlena of Kanopolis, Kansas; her brother, Dallas E. Boeken II (Karen) of Great Bend, Kansas; three grandchildren, Donald Peterman, Jacque Peterman, and James Behnke; and two great grandchildren, Hazel and William Peterman. She is preceded in death by both her parents and her brothers, Clark and Rocky Boeken.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. Family will be present 6:00-8:00 p.m. to greet visitors.

Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. Reception at the Ellsworth Library following graveside services.&nbsp;

Steven D. Dye was born March 28, 1950 to Edward Neil Dye and Mildred Grace Dye in Iola, KS.&nbsp;He had a full life filled with love for Jesus, family and friends.&nbsp;He loved his career of teaching information systems and business classes at Community College and having his own computer business at home. After retiring to Morro Bay, CA he enjoyed walking the Harbor Walk with his wife, having coffee with friends, going to dinner and enjoying life on the coast.

After battling Pulmonary Fibrosis for 11 years, Steven entered his new home of heaven on May 26, 2024.

Steven is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Klema) Dye; his son and daughter-in-law Gabriel and Pricila of Texas; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn of Texas; a sister Elizabeth Bailey of Nevada; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his brothers Kenneth, Clyde, Tracy, Neil and Richard.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Parsons Funeral Home of Ellsworth, KS. Burial will follow at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.

Timothy Lee Gruen April 5, 1944 ~ June 2, 2024

T. Lee Gruen, 80 years old, of Abilene, Kansas was born April 5, 1944; the second oldest son to Timothy and Lola Mae Gruen. He died on June 2, 2024 surrounded by family.

T. Lee grew up on the family farm, south of Abilene, with his parents and four siblings. His parents instilled a love for the Lord early in life. He attended Abilene schools where he met his future wife, Libby Wade, in middle school. In high school, they became sweethearts. They were married on August 21, 1965.

T. Lee earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from K.U. in 1967. He then went on to the University of Iowa and received his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry in 1971. That is where he and Libby started their family, having three triplet sons that did not survive. He began his career by teaching College Chemistry at Missouri Western before welcoming their sons Tim and Ethan.

They moved back to Abilene in 1976, where he farmed the family land for most of his adult life. Feeling that their family was not yet complete, they added a little girl, Heather. At this time, T. Lee decided to use his degree to work as a local pharmacist. He was a devoted husband and father. Libby has always been his first love, and when she passed away on February 24, 1990, the family was forever changed. Later in life T. Lee found love again, marrying his wife Sherry on January 11, 2009. They enjoyed many cruises and retired life together.

In T. Lee’s adult life, he found joy in physical activities. He competed in two full marathons, the Chicago and New York. He also participated in over 35 half marathons, and countless 5ks, often running them with his son, Ethan. He started biking to spend time with his son Tim, and discovered the Biking Across Kansas adventure. He participated in seven BAKs, doing four of them with Tim and his children, earning four century badges. He went on many biking adventures with his close friends. He shared his love of travel with Heather, and together they toured the country.

If you spent much time with T. Lee you would find his real passion was mission work. He wanted everyone to hear about God’s saving grace through his Son, Jesus. He was on Community Bible’s mission board, and also on the board of the Pregnancy Service Center. He was a faithful member of the Community Bible Church in Abilene, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his wife Libby Gruen, infant sons Adam, Abram, &amp; Aaron, parents Timothy &amp; Lola Mae Gruen, and his brothers Everett Gruen, Ronald Gruen, and Donny Gruen.

He is survived by his wife Sherry of the home, his sister Donna and Wiley Edmonds of Louisville, Texas, son Timothy and Lamonica Gruen of Edmond, Oklahoma, son Ethan and Amy Gruen of Abilene, daughter Heather Stolzenburg of Abilene, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A private burial service will be held on July 13, 2024 at the Newbern Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:30 AM at Community Bible Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Bible Church for the support of missions or the Pregnancy Service Center of Salina.

Karen Jeanne Dunlap, 78, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Abilene. She was born July 26, 1945, in Abilene, KS, the daughter of George and Vesta (Cavender) Buhler.

Growing up in Abilene, Karen attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School. On Aug. 2, 1963, she married John W. Dunlap Jr. in Abilene. All of their married life was spent in Abilene, before John passed in 2017.

Karen worked at the Duckwall/Alco Offices and at Sears. John and Karen owned and operated John’s Service over 40 years.

Karen is preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Don Buhler; sister, Beth VanOvershelde; and daughter-in-law, Shelly Lahr-Dunlap.Survivors: two sons, Brad (Jan) Dunlap and Bryan (Kassi) Dunlap, both of Abilene; four grandchildren, Alyssa (Seth) Schooley, Connor, Cale (Katie) Dunlap and Breckyn (Emmett) Greene; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20th at Emmanuel Church with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Abilene Cemetery.

Harvey Dean Lantz, 84, of Abilene, KS, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at Manhattan Ascension Via Christi. Harvey was born on March 22, 1940, in Talmage, KS, the son of Ira V. and Florence Mae (Hosteller) Lantz. He spent most of his life in the Abilene area and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1958. On August 10, 1970, he married the love of his life, Karen Paulette Parker, in Haskell, Texas. Harvey was the beloved husband of the late Karen and the father of four sons: Michael (deceased), Kevin of Oberlin, KS, Doug (Marci) of Osborne, KS, and Brian (Karen) of Solomon, KS. Harvey was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Danielle, Colton, Tyler, Dayton, Dawson, Braedyn, and Karter. He is also survived by his siblings Roy, Ivan, and Dorothy, and was preceded in death by his brothers Kenny and Jim.

Harvey had a diverse career that began in farming before he transitioned to a successful career in construction. In his spare time, Harvey passionately pursued woodworking, where he became locally renowned for his meticulously crafted dog houses and shelves. Known for his generosity, Harvey often created these projects as gifts for friends and family, leaving a lasting impression on the community with his craftsmanship and kindness.

Harvey cherished his time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed going to casinos to play slots and frequently traveled to indulge in his love for bingo. He was also a regular at the local coffee shop, where he enjoyed many mornings drinking coffee and chatting with his friends. Later in life, he found great joy in watching his grandchildren pursue their passions, from playing sports to tinkering on vehicles. Harvey had a special place in his heart for family gatherings and was known for his saying, "I only like two types of pie - hot and cold."Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating.

Harvey will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Glenda’s life began on December 4, 1946 in Watonga, OK. She was the daughter of Glen C. and Wanda Mary (McQuilliams) Lake. Glenda attended both Wichita State and Pittsburg State University. She was united in marriage to Ernest “Bill” W. Reynolds on January 29, 1965, in Wichita. Glenda retired from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services after 25 years. She enjoyed volunteering her time with CASA, Genesis EFC, and the General Federated Women’s Club. She is survived by her husband Bill of Whitewater; children Tracey (David) Jones of Keller, TX, and Trisha Macy of Wellington, KS; grandchildren Caitlin Newsholme, Jordan Todd, Trevor Macy, Rebecca Kendrick and Jacob Jones; and great grandchildren Logan, Sawyer, Jackson, Seyla, Cheyenne, Wren, Elijah, Hadley, Scarlett, and Jade. Glenda passed away at her home on Friday June 14, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Linda and Brenda. Virginia Louise (Watson) McCoy October 15, 1932 ~ June 14, 2024

Virginia Louise Watson McCoy departed this life on June 14, 2024, at the hospital in Newton, Kansas, following a brief illness.&nbsp;

Virginia was born on October 15, 1932, in West Mineral, Kansas, to Frank Watson and Mary Wilcox Watson. Virginia was the youngest of four children. At the age of five, following the deaths of her parents, Virginia was adopted by relatives Alfred and Ruth Watson of Towanda, Kansas. With Al and Ruth’s love, Virginia was raised in Towanda, where she graduated high school and met the love of her life, Robert Lee (Bob) McCoy.&nbsp;

Virginia and Bob were married on August 6, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Towanda, where they made their home and began a family. While living in Towanda, they welcomed sons Michael Lee and Scott Alan, and daughter Nancy Ruth.&nbsp;

In 1964, the McCoys moved to Whitewater, Kansas, where Bob became station agent for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Shortly after moving to Whitewater, Virginia and Bob welcomed their last child, son Robert Andrew.&nbsp;

Virginia and Bob were active in the Whitewater community and in the Federated Church. Over the years, they built and operated two businesses: McCoy’s Antiques, Flowers, and Gifts, and McCoy Storage. Additionally, Virginia operated a licensed daycare and served as mayor. Virginia also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the “Happy Hour Club”.&nbsp;

Virginia had a tender heart for all animals and, over the years, the McCoy family grew by at least five dogs and six cats. For the last year of her life, Virginia chose to reside at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, where she enjoyed the company of the staff and fellow residents.&nbsp;

Virginia is survived by her sons Michael of Kansas City, MO, Scott (Katherine) of Whitewater, and Robert (Vicky) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Amber (Kris) Quintana, Cody Ross, Cole (Olivia) McCoy, Delaney McCoy, Blake McCoy, Chase McCoy; great grandchildren Aspen, Bella, Shelby, Madeline, Connie, Abel, Jericho, River, Ellie; great, great granddaughter Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Frank, Mary, Al, and Ruth; brother Roby and sisters Bessie and Juanita; husband Bob; daughter Nancy (Charles) Ross; granddaughter Heather McCoy and grandson Brandon McCoy.&nbsp;

Virginia’s body was cremated, and her remains will be laid to rest next to Bob in a private service at the cemetery in Neal, Kansas. Lamb Funeral Home is serving the family. For the last year of her life, Virginia chose to reside at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, where she enjoyed the company of the staff and fellow residents.&nbsp;Virginia is survived by her sons Michael of Kansas City, MO, Scott (Katherine) of Whitewater, and Robert (Vicky) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Amber (Kris) Quintana, Cody Ross, Cole (Olivia) McCoy, Delaney McCoy, Blake McCoy, Chase McCoy; great grandchildren Aspen, Bella, Shelby, Madeline, Connie, Abel, Jericho, River, Ellie; great, great granddaughter Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Frank, Mary, Al, and Ruth; brother Roby and sisters Bessie and Juanita; husband Bob; daughter Nancy (Charles) Ross; granddaughter Heather McCoy and grandson Brandon McCoy.&nbsp;Virginia’s body was cremated, and her remains will be laid to rest next to Bob in a private service at the cemetery in Neal, Kansas. Lois’ life began on December 11, 1928, in Whitewater. She was the daughter of William Leroy and Gracie Bernice (Bailey) Spratt. Lois was a 1946 graduate of Whitewater High School. After school, Lois worked as a telephone operator for Whitewater and later worked as the office manager of the Butler Rural Electric Cooperative. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and had been active in the Altar Society. Lois enjoyed tending to her flowers in her garden and enjoyed being part of her church. She is survived by her daughter Sue (David) Lincicome of Valley Center; grandchildren Jeremy Lincicome of Wichita and Joshua Lincicome of El Dorado; and her brother Jack (Jane) Spratt of Whitewater. Lois passed away on Wednesday June 12, 2024, at Lake Point Nursing Home in El Dorado. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Irvin and Paul Spratt. Betty H. Grant of rural Abilene, passed away at home in the presence of her family on Monday, May 20, 2024. Betty was a 1943 graduate of Taunton High School. She was the wife of the late William T. Grant, who she married in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Taunton, MA, in 1949. She was born to Ambrose and Sarah Taylor O’Neil on November 30, 1925 in Taunton. Betty was employed at Liggets Drug Store, Allen Walker Insurance, Metals and Control, Texas Instruments, and her final and favorite employment, the Gondola Restaurant where she retired after 31 years. Betty bought a home and moved to Abilene, Kansas in 2006 to be closer to her family. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, the Ladies of St. Andrews, and Red Hat Ladies. She was a master knitter and made many beautiful garments for family and friends. She enjoyed baking beautiful cakes especially for her great grandchildren. She believed it was an elderly person’s job to pray and she faithfully prayed 5 rosaries a day! She loved listening to the KC Chiefs, her ITunes playlist, and her great grands’ musical instruments. Gary Lew Hale July 2, 1937 ~ June 15, 2024

Gary Lew Hale, a beloved husband, father, farmer, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at the age of 86. Born in Concordia, Kansas, on July 2, 1937, to Wilbur and Alice Hale, Gary lived a life marked by kindness, service, and community spirit.

Gary spent his early years in Simpson, Kansas, where he attended high school. Known for his gentle demeanor and willingness to help others, Gary was a cherished member of his community from a young age.

In 1960, after serving two years in the US Army, Gary returned to Salina, Kansas, where he began a long and fulfilling career with Evans Grain Company. His dedication to his work and his colleagues was evident throughout his years of service.

On April 20, 1963, Gary married the love of his life, Joyce Heidrick. Their marriage, spanning over four decades, was a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised two daughters, Alison Monsanto and Andrea Hale, who were the pride and joy of Gary's life.

Gary had a lifelong passion for high school and college basketball and football. He was often seen listening to one game on his FM Walkman while attending another game in person. His enthusiasm for sports extended beyond just watching the games; he actively volunteered at many tournament games held at the Salina Bicentennial Center. His contributions to the local sports community were greatly appreciated and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

In his later years, Gary cherished his daily coffee outings with friends. These gatherings were a highlight of his day, filled with laughter, stories, and camaraderie.

Gary is remembered for his incredibly kind heart. He was the type of person who would do anything for anyone and never had a bad word to say about anyone. His positive outlook on life and his generosity of spirit touched the lives of many.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce, and their daughters, Alison Monsanto and Andrea Hale. Though his heart endured these profound losses, he continued to embody resilience and kindness.

Gary Lew Hale is survived by his granddaughters, Haley Crossley and Mary Bondio, as well as his great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many friends and extended family members. His legacy of kindness, service, and community involvement will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be held&nbsp;on Saturday, June 29th&nbsp;at Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Salina, KS&nbsp;at 11 a.m.&nbsp;to celebrate Gary's remarkable life.

Gary's gentle soul and loving nature will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace.

Ramon Bonilla, 75, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was born on April 30, 1949, in Zacapu, Michoacan, Mexico, to Fidel and Agita (Mora) Bonilla.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Nathalie (Mesa) Bonilla; son, Richard Vargo (Darnell); grandchildren, Blake Vargo (Amber), Makayla Twehous (Logan), Madison Head (Darrin), and Morgan Waggoner (Mike); great-granddaughter, Karsyn Head; sisters, Patricia and Letia; brother, Fidel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Vargo; and his brothers and sisters.

A Rosary prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 118 N 9th St, Salina. A graveside burial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, at Kanopolis Cemetery, Ave L, Kanopolis, Kan.

Arthur Ray Breneman, 80, of Hedville, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024.&nbsp; He was born in Salina, to Louis R. and Maxine (Baker) Breneman.&nbsp; He married Karolyn Akers on January 31, 1965.&nbsp; He graduated Culver High School, was in the Army Reserve, worked at CO-OP in Culver and Salina.&nbsp; He then worked for Ott Oil for over 25 years prior to purchasing the company with Troy Ditto in 2000 forming Fuel Unlimited.&nbsp; In addition to his occupation, he had an addiction to cattle that he couldn’t quite kick.&nbsp; He was a cow and calf producer for many years, then during his retirement he was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of just being a “cow man.”

Survivors include his children, Monty (Debbie) Breneman, of Lincoln, Dean Breneman, of Park City, and Amy (David) Thompson, of Hedville; sister, Marilyn Baker, of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Mikayla, Cory, and Kristy Breneman, Faith Wolf, Cheyenee, David, Micah Thompson, and Marius Berens.; great grandchildren, Jeremiah Thompson and Maeve Thompson.

Art was a member of several local organizations; Rural Water District #4, Ell-Saline Booster Club, Ell-Saline Lions Club, Hedville Rural Fire Department.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina.&nbsp;

Papillion, NE -&nbsp;Irma R. Broils Martin, third daughter of Karl E. Broils and Neoma (Naomi) Kibble Broils was born March 13, 1943, at Salina Regional Medical Center, formerly Asbury Hospital. She attended Dunbar and Whittier Elementary Schools, Roosevelt/Lincoln Jr. High, and graduated from Salina High School. She was employed by Tony’s Pizza and Windsor Estates as a dietary Supervisor. She married Johnnie Martin Sept. 17, 1985. Holding various offices, she was a devoted and faithful lifelong member of Allen Chapel AME Church, Salina, KS. Irma enjoyed doing ceramics and crocheting Afghans for family and friends and having fun with and spoiling her nieces and nephews. She collected pigs of all shapes, colors and sizes. Oh yes! shopping in Korea, how could we forget that.

Proceeding her in death are her father, mother, and sister, Anita Kay Scott. Irma leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Johnnie Martin, sister, Arlene Broils Glenn (George Glenn Sr,) Topeka, KS, brother in laws, Bobbie (Gail) Macon, Ga, Charles (Stella) KCKS, Jimmy, KCMO, sister in laws, Marie Giles, KCMO, Marva Dean Martin, Newton, KS, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Frieda Lucille (Dick) Priddy December 23, 1923 ~ June 16, 2024

Frieda Lucille Priddy, 100, of Salina, Kan., passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024. She was born on December 23, 1923, in Dorrance, Kan., to Reinhart and Katherine (Senner) Dick.

Frieda was united in marriage to Ralph Edgar Priddy on January 29, 1949, in Salina. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a dedicated member of the Salina VFW Post 1432 Woman’s Auxiliary. She worked at Key Rexall Pharmacy for many years and enjoyed volunteering as an election booth worker for many years. Frieda was a great cook who loved to make her German recipes for family and friends. She also enjoyed embroidery and canning fruits and vegetables.

Survivors include her children, Marva Jore (Ron), and Wayne Priddy (Ceal), both of Salina; grandchildren, Brandy Siler, Ginger Lehman (Jason), Aaron Jore (Krista), and Teresa Snow (Greg); great-grandchildren, Ashley Siler, Aubree Montey (Kayden), Chase Anderson, Ella Jore, Emryn Jore, Blake Robertson, Christian Snow, Sebastian Snow, and one more on the way; great-great-grandchild, Blake Montey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 49 years, Ralph; brothers, Harry, David, Walter, and Melvin Dick; sisters, Selma Dick, Rachel Unruh, Alvena Luerman, Mary Wood, and Bertha Smith.

A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, with family present from 5-7.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 302 S 7th St, Salina, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to the Salina VFW Post 1432, care of Ryan Mortuary.

Randall K. Carlson October 21, 1957 ~ June 7, 2024

Randall K. Carlson, 66, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away Friday, June 7, 2024. He was born on October 21, 1957, in Salina to Carl L. A. (Lawrence) Carlson and Glenna (Miller) Carlson. He graduated from Salina High School Central in 1975 and obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Bethany College. During this period, he was a member of several honor societies and clubs including Alpha Sigma Nu, Theta Chi Delta (chemistry honors), Math and Physics Club, and the Chemistry Club. Following his undergraduate work, he went on to advanced studies in organic chemistry at Iowa State University where he obtained his master’s degree.

Following his university studies, he has spent his 40+ year career working for a number chemical and pharmaceutical companies including Dupont, Bristol Myers-Squibb, and Lab Corp. His work during the last few decades was for firms that provide statistical analyses and reporting of testing performed for pharmaceutical development. During his time at DuPont, he was listed as co-inventor on several US patents.

As a young man, Randall enjoyed participating in the world of amateur radio. He received his “Ham” license in the ‘70s but was most active when he was in Delaware. He served a term as Delaware Section Leader for the American Radio Relay League (emergency ham communications and other related activities). Randall was also a skilled photographer with wildlife being a favorite subject. He didn’t need to take exotic trips for subjects. He found them all around… birds, bees on a flower, any local creature. He spent many pleasant hours in local parks and nature preserves pursuing this hobby.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 infant sisters, Kay, Fay and May Carlson. Randall is survived by his brother Darvin of Shawnee, Kansas.

A graveside service will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, 2020 East Iron Avenue, Salina, Kansas at Noon on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Friends and family who wish to gather and reminisce may gather at Ryan Mortuary at 11:00 a.m. prior to the procession to the cemetery.

Florence Awyn (Kaser) Ayers was born August 23, 1925 to William Henry and Florence (Cram) Kaser at their farm home east of Osborne.&nbsp;&nbsp;Awyn was the youngest of 6 children.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ayers, and also her parents and three brothers, Wayne, Kenneth, Dwight and wife Minnie, 2 sisters Rena and husband Ralph Barber, Opal and husband Harold Coop, and a grandson Christopher Ayers.

Awyn was married to Lester Ayers for 59 years.

They were Wholesale/retail milk distributors in the Osborne area for 35 years.

Their children are Janet and husband Tim DeCocq, Alan, Glen and wife Becky; Seven grandchildren; and Nine Great Grandchildren.

Awyn loved her family and spent a lifetime caring for them.She was known for her flowers and her kindness, she loved music, gardening, cooking, teaching Sunday school for over 65 years and rest home work and programs.

She wrote poetry and songs, played the organ for church and for Parkview Care Center, and most of all she loved the Lord.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5PM until 7PM at the Rentschler Family Mortuaries Osborne Chapel.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30AM Wednesday June 19, 2024, at the Rentschler Family mortuaries Osborne Chapel.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made the Awyn Ayers memorial fund to be split between Gideon’s International and NwKares Hospice and can be sent in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Rentschler Family Mortuaries of Osborne, KS.

Juanita Hale, 74 years of age, of Concordia passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, peacefully at her home in Concordia.&nbsp;

She was born on February 5, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas to Juan "John" and Antonia “Toni” (Hernandez) Bajaras.

She married Gilford Hale on April 7, 1969, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;To this Union two children were born Valerie and John.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia.

Juanita retired from the Sunset Nursing Home in 2018 where she worked as a CNA for 5 years.

She enjoyed photography, cooking, baking, and gardening.&nbsp;&nbsp;Most of all she loved spending time with her beloved family and friends, especially her pet chihuahua Brownie.

Juanita is survived by her husband, Gilford Hale of the home in Concordia; a daughter, Valerie (Roger) Hamilton of Scandia, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;a son, John Hale (Christine Ward) of Concordia, KS; 3 sisters, Teresa Winter (Casey) Great Bend, KS; Vicky Waggoner (Les) Salina, KS; Christina Crump, Concordia, KS; one brother, Damian Villalpando, Kanopolis, KS; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia, Kansas, with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, and the family will greet friends following the Rosary Service.
