Bobby Joe Leister October 27, 1940 ~ March 10, 2024

Bobby Joe Leister passed away March 10th at age 83. He was born Oct. 27th 1940 to Robert Leister &amp; Lorene Buck Leister in Altus, Oklahoma. Bobby served 3 years in the military with 14 months in Korea. He married Mary Sue Spittles Dec. 2nd, 1961- later divorcing. To this union they had 4 Children. Scott, Abilene, Dirk (Alana) Wichita and Wendy Surritte (David) Abilene and a daughter Melissa who died at birth. Bobby married Harriet Welton Leister in 1974 gaining 3 stepchildren. Robert, Don and Danny Beeler.

Bobby spent 4 years as a Police officer and Fireman in Junction City, KS. He also owned a service station and was owner of Security Fence Company in JC from 1977-1986. He then went to work at Ft. Riley from 1986-2013 retiring as Union President. He did computer repair and worked on target devices.

Bobby was preceded in death by his daughter Melissa, late wife, sister MaryEllen and daughter-n-law Sherry, stepchildren Robert and Don Beeler. He is survived by his brother Gary (Theresa) Leister Chapman, Kansas, sister Sue Jasper Amarillo, TX his children and 5 Grandchildren Charlotte, Justin and Savannah Leister, Braydon and Dawson Surritte. Four step grandchildren, Daniel, Ana live in MO, Bobby Joe (FL) and Jason Pipes (April) of Abilene and 2 great granddaughters and several step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family has chosen cremation and graveside services will be at a later date at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery

Jerome "Jerry" Dale Benson September 19, 1939 ~ March 5, 2024

Jerome Dale Benson of Salina, Kansas passed away on March 5th 2024. Jerome or Jerry as he was called by those dearest to him, was born September 19th 1939 in Hadley, Minnesota, to Gladys and Oscar Benson.

Jerry was the 10th of 13 boys and was well loved for his wit, wisdom and deep devotion to those whom he loved. He committed his life to others by proudly serving as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corp and eventually becoming a Substance Abuse Counselor after studying Psychology at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. Jerry worked in the field for over 20 years during which time he met the love of his life Cynthia Moore Benson, who he lived with in Virginia Beach, Virginia until the time of her death.

In his free time Jerry loved to be outside and with loved ones.&nbsp; He spent time tending to his garden, going on cruises with his wife and taking fishing trips with family and friends. You could always catch him inside when his favorite football team, the Minnesota Vikings were on TV. Then he would cheer on the team with the same love and support he gave to his people each and everyday.

Jerome Dale Benson is preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Oscar Benson, his brothers Oscar Jr, Wally, Gordon, Moe, Bud, Jimmy, Ronnie, David, Roger, Bruce, Milo and Mike Benson. His first wife Sharon Ewen Benson, his son Mark Jerome Benson and second wife Cynthia Moore Benson. He is survived by his children Linda (Jay) Woodfield of Salina, KS, Allan Benson of Wichita, KS, Christina (Dan) Starcher of Salina, KS and his step daughter Shannon Collins of Virginia; his Grandchildren Kylie, Nick, and Megan Woodfield, James Benson, and Ryan Starcher; his great grand dogs Charlie, Holtby, Nugget, Tucker and Tukka.

Jerome will be honored with a visitation Tuesday March 12th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rosewood–Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA.

The family will also host a graveside service on Wednesday March 13th at 2:00 in the afternoon at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life is being planned in Salina, Kansas, at a later date for those unable to attend services.

Roger Alvin Schulz November 21, 1935 ~&nbsp;March 7, 2024

Roger Alvin Schulz, 88, of Canton, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024, surrounded by his family at Pleasant View Home, Inman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born on November 21, 1935, on the family farm north of Canton, KS, the son of Glen C. and Flossie M. (Rogers) Schulz.&nbsp; Roger was the great-great-great-grandson of August Schulz who&nbsp;homesteaded in Battle Hill township, McPherson County, Kansas in the late 1800s.&nbsp;&nbsp; He attended elementary school at the Battle Hill School House and graduated from Canton High School.&nbsp; On September 17, 1954, Roger was united in marriage to Geraldine “Geri” Kliewer in Canton, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Mitchell.&nbsp; Geri preceded Roger in death on January 2, 2022, after 67 years of marriage.&nbsp;

Roger was the owner of Gas Products, Mac County Gas, Schulz Oil &amp; Gas, Schulz Welding, and Canton Grocery, LLC.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Roger served in the United States Army and was a member of the Canton American Legion Post #192.&nbsp; He was also a member of Canton Community Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Rodney Schulz (Julie) and Mitchell Schulz (Karen), all of Canton, KS; siblings, Criss Schulz (Joan) of Topeka, KS and Carolyn Moddelmog (Keith) of California; five grandchildren, Jamie Schulz of Limassol, Cyprus, Dylan Schulz (Josie) of Canton, KS, Tyler Schulz (Taylor) of Park City, KS, Emily Brannon (Sam) of Canton, KS, and Sam Brannon of Canton, KS; five great-grandchildren, Iris, August, Leonidas, Blakely, and Elijah; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Harold Schulz, Dean Schulz, Richard Schulz, and Virginia Tolle.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Canton Community Church.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 15, at Canton Community Church with Pastor Mike Miller officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Canton Township Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Canton Community Church or Canton Carnegie Library WWI Memorial in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

John Forest Ritter III November 5, 1951 ~&nbsp;February 20, 2024

John Forest Ritter III passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, on February 20, 2024, at the age of 72.

John was born to John and Betty Ritter at St. John’s Hospital, Salina, Kansas, on November 5, 1951.&nbsp; He was the oldest of three children and a consummate big brother.

As a youth, John fostered his love of pets and animals and was active in the Boy Scouts.&nbsp; He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1969, where he participated in wrestling, football, and excelled in academics.

John graduated from Kansas State University in 1973, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and Applied Sciences.&nbsp; While attending KSU John was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.

Following graduation, John started his banking career with Colorado National Bank, Denver, Colorado, where he achieved great success in his twenty plus years as a bank executive.&nbsp; In 1995, John relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, and accepted an advanced position with Bank One, where he worked until his retirement.

John loved his family and friends and especially delighted in spoiling his nephews and niece with special gifts and other random acts of kindness.&nbsp; He was good at working with his hands and was often called upon to fix small electrical, plumbing, and other repair needs around the home.&nbsp; He had tiling in his blood.

John is survived by his brother, Jim Ritter (Martha), Naperville, Illinois, sister, Teresa Martin (Tom), Salina, Kansas; nephews, Aaron Martin (Jessica), Nathan Martin (Lisa), Daniel Ritter (Mariah); niece, Molly Martin Warren (Blake); eight great nephews and nieces; and special long-time friend, Marilyn Wolfe.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Betty Ritter, and nephew, Ryan Ritter.

A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family.

John F. Ritter III

Gaylene Louise Spears September 9, 1959 ~&nbsp;March 2, 2024

Gaylene Louise Spears departed this Earth while surrounded by her loving family on March 2, 2024, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. Gaylene was born on September 9th, 1959, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Harvey and Verdena (Burwell) Springer. She was the second of four kids born into the Springer family. The Springers moved from Nebraska, eventually settling in Richmond, Kansas. Gaylene graduated from Central Heights High School in May of 1977.&nbsp;

After graduation, Gaylene went on to Kansas Wesleyan University, where she was a member of the pompom squad and majored in elementary education. She met the father of her children, Mark Spears, and they were married on August 18, 1979. To this union, four children were born: Deanna Lynn, Travis Michael, Tyson James, and Darissa Gaylene. Gaylene was a wonderful mother and kept a happy home. Her children remember childhood meals spent around the dinner table as a family, as well as trips to multiple basketball tournaments where she cheered them on.

Gaylene’s children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She recently retired as a para from Central Heights, her alma mater, and moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Brent Clark, and their kids. She loved living in Garden City, telling people she had moved from a trailer into a palace. Many bowls of ice cream were shared while the family watched their nightly game shows, as well as evenings around the dinner table with Tyson and his special friend, Amber. Gaylene also enjoyed spending time with her other kids and grandkids. Grammy, as she was known, never forgot a holiday or birthday. Her grandkids always looked forward to checking the mail for a special treat around those times, and they were never disappointed.

Another of Gaylene’s passions was education in all forms. She taught school for over 30 years, and then became a para for several years after retiring as a full-time teacher. All of her students became her kids, and she loved giving handmade Christmas ornaments to each of her students, made by her own mother, Verdena Springer. Countless adults from her classroom days now decorate their Christmas trees with these beautiful pieces. Gaylene always enjoyed hearing about her students’ experiences in her classroom, and she loved seeing photos of her “kids,” all grown up.

She was preceded in death by her father Harvey Springer.

Gaylene is survived by her loving children, Deanna Clark (Brent), Garden City, KS; Travis Spears (Tamara), North Platte, NE; Tyson Spears (Amber), Garden City, KS; and Darissa Butler (Chris), Yukon, OK. She is also survived by her mother, Verdena Springer; her siblings, Russell Springer (Carla); Verlin Springer (Kim), and Marcia Springer. Left to mourn her passing are her grandchildren, Maddox, Landon, Tegin, Tucker, Carter, and Autumn. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and many former students and friends.&nbsp;

Gaylene was one of the kindest people you would ever meet. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 12, 2024, at the Lucas Community Church from 5PM until 7PM.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday March 13, 2024, at the Lucas Community Church in Lucas, KS.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Shriner’s Childrens Hospital and can be sent in care of the mortuary.

Carol Ann Tanton, 85, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and cherished memories. She was born April 10, 1938 to James and Elsie (Belt) Urbanek in rural Ellsworth. Carol had five siblings: Betty Koerner, Marilyn Gardinier, Norma Johannes, Donald Urbanek, and Dale Urbanek.

On September 2, 1962, Carol was united in marriage to Max Edward Tanton in Ellsworth. She was a devoted mother to Connie Falk (Alan) of Ellsworth, Jean Soukup (Nick Paschal) of Junction City, and Susan Dittman (Keith) of Ellsworth and a loving grandmother to Olivia Stevenson (Trent), Natalie Soukup, Stephanie Soukup (Trevor LaBarge), Heather Chiddix, Tara Dittman (Derek Williams), Kyhla Grant (Kyle), Josh Dittman (Danielle), and Mallory Dittman (Austin Pittman) and great grandmother (Mimi the Great) to Abel, Oakley, Charlie, Everly, Tatum, Benny, Austin, Carter, Chloe, Kamden, Haden, Skylyn, Sylas, Grayson, Bennett, and Jackson and great-great grandmother to Waylon.

Family was everything to Carol. She very much enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with friends on her front porch. Carol worked for 20 years as an Ellsworth County dispatcher and then retired in 1998. After that, she enjoyed hobbies of gardening, glass etching, and restoring antique cars with Max.

Carol was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Max, sister Betty Koerner, and brothers, Donnie and Dale Urbanek.

Carol’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Visitation: 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Family will be present 6-8 p.m.

Kathryn Marie “Kay” Bailey, 70, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024 in Ellsworth, KS. She was born February 6, 1954 in Ellinwood, KS to John and Loretta (Achatz) Kaiser. Kay married David Bailey on August 2, 1974 in Ellsworth.

Kay is survived by her husband David of Ellsworth; sons, Mitchell Bailey of Shawnee, KS and Gabriel Bailey (Jenny) of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, Quinn, Keira, and Elias Bailey and Emery, Oliver, and Thomas Bailey; and sister Ann Kaiser of Nashville, TN. Harold was born to Hazel and Harold Grinstead in Ordway, Colorado in the local hotel. He grew up in the southwest Kansas area, graduating from Coolidge High School before attending Lamar Junior College. He helped start the rodeo team and host the first college rodeo while at Lamar. &nbsp; &nbsp;Harold moved to Elkhart, Kansas where he met his bride, Shirley Adams. They married on July 11, 1959, and were married 64 years. They had three children LaVonda (Randall) White, Bruce Grinstead, and Glenna Grinstead; three grandchildren Britton (Ashlee) Grinstead, Tylon Ybarra, and Karley Grinstead; and two great-grandchildren, Slade and Lainee Grinstead. He is survived by these family members and his siblings, Bill, Dorothy, Ike, Nancy, and Dianna. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Harold was a cowboy’s cowboy, a real cowboy who was in the snow at 10 below caring for the cattle before anything else. &nbsp;He worked on several ranches from southwest Kansas to the Oklahoma panhandle to the Flint Hills to northeast Kansas. He lived the simple life, enjoying his time on horseback, believing God could be seen in the sunrise, heard in the calf’s bawl, and felt in the breeze. Harold also spent time enjoying his hobby of team roping with family and friends. &nbsp; Whether heading or heeling, he was often in the money, winning belt buckles and saddles. &nbsp;

Harold grew older and had to give up his cowboy ways. &nbsp;He spent time with his family and learned new hobbies before moving to St. Luke’s Living Center. The staff there cared for him over the last 4 years. His family deeply appreciates them. &nbsp;

The memorial service will be Sunday March 10, 2024 at 2 pm at the John McKay American Legion Post 308 in Florence. &nbsp; Jeans and boots are appropriate. Charles Robert Everhart November 15, 1935 ~ March 3, 2024

Charles Robert Everhart, known to his family as Bob, and to friends as Charlie. You always knew who family was, or friend, by the way they addressed him.

Charlie was born and raised in Canton, KS. He graduated with the class of 1953. After graduation, he joined his brother and father in the oil fields. In 1958 he joined the railroad, where he remained for 39 years before retiring in 1997. Charlie had many accomplishments throughout his career. He served as the local union secretary for many years, was involved with the Shriners, and created the Kansas City Safety Committee.

Charlie’s personal life included a beautiful, blended family. In 1957, he married Rosie, with whom he had two children, Dennis and Terri. In 1970, he married Bernice Staatz. Bernice had two sons, Raymond &amp; Ronald Staatz, who Charlie loved as his own. He resided in Herington for 53 years, where he would tend to his amazing garden, working on various projects, and maintaining a robust train collection. Bob was very mechanically inclined and could fix just about anything. He loved having family around at the holidays and teaching the grandchildren &amp; great grandchildren to play pool in his basement.

Charlie’s best pastime was his home away from home, “the shed”. He worked on all of his many projects here, but more importantly he entertained his family and friends here with plenty of good cheer for all! After retirement, he continued his hobby of gardening, and shared a bountiful harvest with his family &amp; friends each year.

Charlie will be remembered as a hard-working man with a kind and generous heart. His family and friends will miss his physical presence on earth dearly, but the memories he made with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will last forever. &nbsp;

Clarence Alvin Peterson January 31, 1927 ~ March 6, 2024

Clarence Alvin Peterson of Salina, Kansas, passed away on March 6, 2024.&nbsp; Born on January 31, 1927, he was 97 years old.&nbsp; Clarence was the youngest son of Lawrence Albert Peterson and Mary M. Jennings.

Pete (as he liked to be called) was a veteran of World War II, joining the army after graduation.&nbsp; Because of his height (6’3”) and high school experience, after completing basic training he played basketball for one of the Army’s state-side teams at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, prior to completing military service in Germany as a member of the Army of Occupation.

He married Audrey Thurland Crabtree Johnson on January 22, 1949.&nbsp; They had one son, Kevin Richard Peterson.&nbsp; Pete and Audrey were married 64 years until Audrey’s death in 2013.

Pete enjoyed sports.&nbsp; Playing center in the Salina City League, he once scored 100 points in a single basketball game.&nbsp; Pete was an avid handball player and was ranked one of the top players in Salina for many years.&nbsp; He bowled for over 60 years, competed in many national tournaments, was elected to the Salina Bowlers Hall of Fame, and, at age 82, was named Salina Bowler of the Year – maintaining a 200 plus average in two different leagues.

Pete volunteered as a youth basketball coach, youth baseball coach, and Scouting assistant.&nbsp; He worked at the Salina Supply Company for 43 years, retiring as their Director of Purchasing.&nbsp; Following retirement, he volunteered at Salina Regional Hospital, served on the boards of St John’s Lutheran Church and Bethany Home, was a member of Salina Elks, VFW, past master of Lindsborg Masonic Lodge, Salina Consistory, and member of ISIS Shrine directors staff.&nbsp; He loved his family and always enjoyed his many friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Audrey, and older brother Charles Albert Peterson.&nbsp; Pete is survived by his son Kevin Peterson, daughter-in-law Lynn Peterson, grandchildren Kip Peterson and Kendra Kreimendahl (Chad), and great grandchildren Corbin, Katelyn (Dawson Driggs), Kira, Claire, and Coltrane Kreimendahl.

A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family.&nbsp; The family suggests memorials to the Salina Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund or St John’s Lutheran Church, Salina, care of Ryan Mortuary.

Darlene K. (Norris) Querbach&nbsp;left us to go to her heavenly home on March 3, 2024.&nbsp; She was born in Salina, KS on October 19, 1944 to Melvin A. Norris and Emogene L.(Davis) Norris.

She attended schools in Salina and Topeka, KS. She started working as a trolley girl at Asbury Hospital and retired from Salina Regional Hospital Center after 42 years as the night cook.&nbsp; She married Robert E. Querbach on August 11, 1973. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this past August 2023.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Bob and two sisters, Donna DeLaney and Linda Ogden of Salina. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Paul Norris and Ron Norris.

There will be a visitation with the family on Friday March 15, 2024, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 16th at Ryan Mortuary. Burial will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Jeanne Marie Sechrist, 98, Minneapolis, died Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Oakview at the Ottawa County Health Center.&nbsp; She was born May 25, 1925, in Ottawa County to Everett H. and Grace (Meiller) Bradbury.

Jeanne was a 1943 graduate of Ada Rural High School.&nbsp; On May 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to Gerald Sechrist.&nbsp; Jeanne was a homemaker, an amazing cook, and helped on the family farm.&nbsp; She also played the piano for several dance bands.&nbsp; Jeanne was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved wearing her earrings, necklaces, makeup, and having her nails painted.&nbsp;

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; brother, Bill Bradbury; sisters, Mary Baccus, Phyllis Adam, Eva Peterson, and Peggy Hofflinger.

Survivors are her daughters, Avanel Schneweis and her husband, Eric and Ardel Helget and her husband, Pat; granddaughters, Ashley Schneweis and Macy Manwaring and her husband, Alex; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth; brother, Bob Bradbury; brother-in-law, Pete Peterson; special nephew, Jim Sechrist and his wife, Amber; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 9, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467.&nbsp; Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. at Fairview Cemetery, Ada. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Minneapolis Golden Wheel and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Eileen Rose Branstetter, 73, died February 25, 2024. She was born August 16, 1950, in Phillipsburg, KS, the daughter of Milo and Norma (Stevens) Gitchel. She was an LPN.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Branstetter; sisters, Lois Hass and Kathy WIllis; brother, Alan Gitchel and her parents.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather Branstetter; grandchildren, Lance Branstetter, Simon Massey, Neaven Bass and great grandchildren, L.J. Branstetter, Adrien Branstetter and a brother, Delbert Gitchel.

Robert B. “Bob” McDowell, 75, of Hutchinson, passed away March 4, 2024, at his home. He was born January 13, 1949 to James and Lena (Standley) McDowell, in Pratt.

Bob retired from Panhandle Eastern after 31 years of service. Some of his accomplishments during his life were cabinet maker and owning his own upholstery business. Bob loved restoring old cars and doing woodworking projects. More than anything he loved to spend time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Bob is survived by: his wife, Ginny McDowell; sons, Terry and Jeremy McDowell; daughter Angela Branscom (Steve); Ginny’s daughters, Bobbie Bascue, Kristie Wichert, and partner, Trevor Blake; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brother, James McDowell; sisters, Shirley Woodard and Sherry McDowell; and extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be 1 pm Friday, March 8, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 9 am to 8 pm on Thursday with family present from 5 to 7 pm at Elliott Mortuary.

Michael worked as a Cook at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, KS.

He enjoyed fishing and restoring old cars and houses.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Gary D. Powell; two brothers, Gary R. Powell and Steven Dale Powell; maternal grandfather, Harvey Mensch; maternal grandmother, Veta L. Mensch; paternal grandfather, Glenn Powell; and three aunts, Loleeta Mensch, Gina Downing and Glenda Haislip.

Larry Lee Barnes, 71, of Ottawa, KS died Monday, March 4, 2024 at Rock Creek Memory Care in Ottawa, Kansas.

He was born November 10, 1952 in Ottawa, Kansas the son of Donald and Betty Barnes.&nbsp; He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1970.&nbsp;

On February 8, 1992, Larry was united in marriage to Anne Province in Ottawa, Kansas.

While in high school, Larry began work as a carpet layer for Nitcher’s Flooring which later became Crook’s Flooring.&nbsp; He then worked at Duke Manufacturing for 19 years.&nbsp; For the last 25 years before retirement, he worked at Kalmar on the yard truck assembly line.

Larry enjoyed square dancing, and was a part of the Ottawa Promenaders.&nbsp; He also loved hunting, bowling, yard work, and painting the house.&nbsp; Most of all, he loved being a dad and grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Barnes.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Barnes of Ottawa, KS; a daughter, Amy Alfrey and her husband, John, of Junction City, KS; his mother, Betty Barnes of Ottawa, KS; a sister, Linda Ferris and her husband, Jim, of Ottawa, KS; 2 grandchildren, Tristan and Grayson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Virginia Nell Morse, 80, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 4th, 2024.

Virginia was born in Salina, Kansas on July 30, 1943, a daughter of Laura Agnes (Renard) and J. Vernon Bradshaw.

On February 24, 1962, Virginia married Clifton Morse.

Survivors include her two sons, Clifton "Robbie" Morse, of Salina, Gene Morse, (Dawn), of Canton, Kansas; daughter, Debbie Beaman, (Kris), of Salina; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea Shelton (Stephan), Shellby Westfall (Lance), Alex Cox (Bethany), Katie Beaman; and 3 great grandchildren, Kaylynn, Regan, and Owen.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifton; and brother, Arthur Bradshaw.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 12th, 2024 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio St., Salina, Kansas, with Pastor Mike Miller officiating.

Marsha Stewart, 82, born in Salina, passed away March 3, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jack Stewart. Together they leave six grown children-Sharon, Marina, Steve, Robert, Jennifer, and Rebecca-ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Marsha graduated Magna cum Laude from Kansas Wesleyan and served a brief stint with the U.S. Army. She conquered her many vocations of nurse, small business owner, and nursing home administrator, all the while pursuing her own art and making time to act on the Salina Community Theatre (SCT) stage. Marsha served on the SCT board, and the play-reading committee, then turned her talent to directing.

It was this last pursuit, where at the age of 60, Marsha directed &nbsp;the play “Wit” for SCT. The play was huge success winning accolades and awards. After wins at the State and Regional level “Wit” went onto &nbsp;the American Association of Community Theatre Festival’s national competition.&nbsp;&nbsp;Beating out hundreds of other entrants, “Wit” placed first nationally, and Marsha helped bring that honor back to Salina and the SCT.

Marsha was at the hub of the SCT family for six decades, hosting countless play parties, pool parties, nights around the piano, and holiday gatherings for friends craving a home base. Marsha and Jack were leading forces in helping establish what is now known as Theatre Salina.

Marsha was temperamentally an artist, intensely curious, a voracious reader, an incredible cook, a wonderful actress and a maker and collector of art. To know Marsha was to know joy and laughter.&nbsp;&nbsp;To be mentored by her was a high compliment.&nbsp;

Born an only child, Marsha was to choose her own sisters and brothers, the many friends she loved, laughed with, and leaves behind.

Marsha’s best art was her life rendered in full color.&nbsp;

Celebration of Life Service will be held 10 am March 15 at the Theatre Salina.&nbsp;

Mary Ann (Wood) Vidricksen August 11, 1932 ~ March 3, 2024

Mary Ann Vidricksen, 91, died peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Lindsborg Community&nbsp; Hospital in Lindsborg, Kansas. Mary Ann was born August 11, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to John Tillman Wood and Esther Dewdrop (Shaver) Wood. Mary Ann was the middle child of three children, the eldest Kenneth Wood and the youngest Waunita Johnephine (Wood) Gallagher. Mary Ann graduated from Cambridge High School in Cambridge, Kansas, in 1950, as one of the four graduates in her class.

Mary Ann met her future husband Norman Lee Vidricksen on a blind date arranged by her brother KT. They were married August 6, 1950 in Winfield, Kansas. To this union, 3 children were born, Daniel Dean "Boone", Henry Lee and Sandra Ann. Mary Ann worked as a bank teller at the Fourth National Bank in Wichita, KS, until Norman and Mary Ann purchased and started Vidricksen Distributing Company, an Anhauser-Busch Distributorship in 1963.

Besides helping with the family business, she enjoyed bowling on leagues with her friends and being involved with the American Paint Horse Association. Mary Ann served several terms as President and Secretary of the Kansas Paint Horse Association along with being a National Director for the State of Kansas with APHA. Survivors include her son Daniel "Boone" Vidricksen of Salina KS, her daughter-in-law Phyllis Vidricksen of Brookville KS and her daughter Sandy (James) Spani of Salina KS. Her grandchildren, Stacie (Patrick) Lundquist of Brookville, KS, Boone (Nashlyn) Vidricksen of Hays, KS, Ashley Vidricksen of Wichita, KS, Audrey (Josh) Cook of Salina, KS, Megan Vidricksen of Oahu, Hi, Sidney Vidricksen of Brookville, KS and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Vidricksen; son, Henry "Hank" Vidricksen; brother, Kenneth “KT" Wood; and sister, Waunita Gallagher.

Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.&nbsp; A funeral service with be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 8th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Salina. Burial will be at the Brookville City Cemetery. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to gather at Martinelli's Little Italy in Salina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, New Cambria Kansas for the Mary Ann Vidricksen Memorial Picnic/Shelter House, or to the American Paint Horse Association Foundation, Fort Worth, Texas to support Youth Scholarships in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Mary Ann was born August 11, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to John Tillman Wood and Esther Dewdrop (Shaver) Wood. Mary Ann was the middle child of three children, the eldest Kenneth Wood and the youngest Waunita Johnephine (Wood) Gallagher. Mary Ann graduated from Cambridge High School in Cambridge, Kansas, in 1950, as one of the four graduates in her class.Mary Ann met her future husband Norman Lee Vidricksen on a blind date arranged by her brother KT. They were married August 6, 1950 in Winfield, Kansas. To this union, 3 children were born, Daniel Dean "Boone", Henry Lee and Sandra Ann. Mary Ann worked as a bank teller at the Fourth National Bank in Wichita, KS, until Norman and Mary Ann purchased and started Vidricksen Distributing Company, an Anhauser-Busch Distributorship in 1963.Besides helping with the family business, she enjoyed bowling on leagues with her friends and being involved with the American Paint Horse Association. Mary Ann served several terms as President and Secretary of the Kansas Paint Horse Association along with being a National Director for the State of Kansas with APHA. Larry Elwin Plaggerman June 22, 1936 ~ March 4, 2024

Larry Elwin Plaggerman, 87, of Salina, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on June 22, 1936 to Albert and Gladys Plaggerman in Sandstone, MN.&nbsp; Larry graduated from Sandstone High School in 1954 and was the class president.&nbsp; He was working in Washington State and was drafted by the Army in 1959 and served at Fort Riley until 1961.&nbsp; Larry was president of Beneficial Finance for many years.&nbsp; In 1972, he opened two car lots, Larry’s Auto Sales, in Junction City.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was elected by the City Commission in 1979 to 1985, served as Mayor in 1981 and 1983.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Optimist Club. &nbsp;

Larry and Cleo Ann Rassette were married January 20, 1973 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, Kansas.&nbsp; In 2006, the moved to Salina and he was elected as an Elder, at Trinity Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He served Meals on Wheels since 2007.&nbsp; Larry enjoyed “Golf with Seniors” supporting Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Royals and his local teams.&nbsp; His last request to Cleo was he wanted to visit Sandstone to try and remember certain memories, she took him in October 2023. &nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Cleo, of the home; daughters, Shonna (Larry) Nely, of Abilene and Sheila (Kevin) Shaw, of Ottawa; grandchildren, Danielle (Scottie) Ridder, of Abilene, Marshall (Katie) Nely, of Wichita, Sage (Stephanie) Shaw, and Dalton Shaw, all of Ottawa; great-grandchildren, Kylen, McKenna and Locklynn Ridder, Christian Nely, and Liam Shaw; step-great grandchildren, Trey and Brooke Reisman; sister, Karen (Jerry) Nelson, of Sandstone, MN and sister in law, Mavis Plaggerman, Spokane, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Clarice (Harold) Sawatzke; brother, Marvin Plaggerman.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, visitation will begin at 10 a.m.&nbsp; Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Caroline “Mitsy” Jo (Sweat) Benne April 5, 1943 ~ March 1, 2024

Caroline Jo Benne&nbsp;was born on her grandparent’s farm on April 5th, 1943. She died March 1st, 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp; She lived 80 years, 10 months, 25 days, the majority of which as a resident of Republic County, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was the first of five children born to Milton Sweat and his wife Rosie (Jensen) Sweat, sister Minda, brother Loren, and twin sisters Karen and Sharon followed.&nbsp; For many Caroline was always “Mitsy,” a nickname given in reference to her father, Mitt. &nbsp;

She attended Kackley Grade School from 1st. through 8th. grade and graduated from Courtland High School in 1961.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shortly after graduation she married Don Ridpath and to this union two boys were born, Robert (1963) and David (1965).&nbsp; Following her divorce from Don, she met and married Carl Clintsman in 1967. With this marriage Caroline gained a stepdaughter, Carla (Clintsman) Pata (1959).&nbsp; Sadly, Carl passed away in 1972. &nbsp;

In 1976 Caroline married Howard Benne, gaining another stepdaughter Jodi (Benne) Swanson (1968).&nbsp; They were soon joined by a son, Steven (1976). Stephanie (1977) and Michael (1978) were born prematurely and entered glory shortly after their births to await their loving mother and father. &nbsp;

Stephanie (1977) and Michael (1978) were born prematurely and entered glory shortly after their births to await their loving mother and father. &nbsp;As Caroline and Howard raised their family in Concordia throughout the 1980s, Caroline stayed busy with church activities at the First Christian Church of Concordia, selling Watkins products, supporting Meals on Wheels, singing in the choir and other programs. &nbsp;In 1999 Caroline moved with Howard and Steven to their farm one mile south of Kackley, Kansas.&nbsp; There, Caroline enjoyed her chickens, ducks, geese, guineafoul, turkeys and rabbits.&nbsp; She took great pride in showing her topknot banty roosters and her beloved goose, Ebby. &nbsp;She will be fondly remembered for her unconditional love and compassion for anyone in need, her skilled hand with a sewing machine or crochet hook, and the food that she prepared.&nbsp; There was seldom a disappointment from Caroline’s kitchen.&nbsp; Her cookies are renowned and her pies, casseroles, roasts and even her magic with Jello salads caused “Mitsy’s” to be a destination place for anyone who knew her. &nbsp;She loved Elvis, Billy Graham, the Bible, Christian television and radio programs, her Soaps and she was as shocked as anyone when she found out J.R. had shot the mirror.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her father and mother, husbands Carl and Howard, children Stephanie and Michael.She will be fondly remembered by her siblings- Minda, Loren, Karen and Sharon.&nbsp; Her Children- Carla, Robert, David, Jodi and Steven. Along with her grandkids, great grandkids and many other cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. &nbsp;Services are being organized by the family; all are invited to attend. Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Services are set for March 9th, 2024, at 3:00p.m. at the Courtland Covenant Church, in Courtland, Kansas.&nbsp; She will be laid to rest with her husband, Howard Benne at the Valley Cemetery Southeast of Norway following the service.&nbsp; A portion of her remains will also be laid to rest with her husband Carl and her dear babies in Concordia at a later date. &nbsp;A short visitation will be available the evening of Friday March 8th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Courtland Covenant Church, 505 Republic St., Courtland, Kansas.Memorial gifts and condolences may be mailed to the church.&nbsp; Courtland Covenant Church, P.O.
