Shirley Irene Jewell, 65, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 9th, 2024.

Shirley was born in Salina, Kansas on September 4, 1959, a daughter of Gladys Irene (Newell) Edwards, of Salina, Kansas and the late James Earl Strath.

Survivors include her mother, Gladys Edwards, of Salina; son, Jesse Jewell (Adrianna), of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three sisters, Donna Vance (David), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sue Randall, of Salina, Kansas and Carol Lee (Terry), of Garden City, Kansas.

She is also survived by grandchildren, Felicia Jewell, Castiel Jewell, Rianna Jewell; nephew, Billy Randall; great niece, Mykkala Randall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father; son, Jason Jewell; daughter, Felicia Jewell; brother, Richard Edwards.

Cremation has been chosen and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Delmar Dean Huber, 83, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home.&nbsp; Delmar was a crew chief at Board of Public Utilities where he worked for 42 years, retiring in 2005.

He was born on December 11, 1940, in Hillsboro, KS, the son of Jonah George and Lucille Allen (Kerbs) Huber.&nbsp; On November 26, 1960, Delmar was united in marriage to Gladys “Glady” Illene Winn in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; They were married for 62 years prior to her passing on January 8, 2023.

He attended the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three children, Dawna (Lyndon) Barrow, Dallas (Julie) Huber, and Darci (Ryan) Walker, all of McPherson, KS; sister-in-law, May Huber-Rabon of Roseburg, OR; eight grandchildren, Gregg (Kristen) Barrow, Michael (Alycia) Barrow, Austin Huber, Courtney Huber, Dylan (Lauren) Barrow, Shelby (Zach) Oller, Lindsy (Shawn) Phillips, and Codi (Brett) Cusick; 17 great-grandchildren; and many more extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Jonah &amp; Eva Huber and Dayna &amp; Lucille Stump; brothers, Jonathan Dale Huber and LaVern (Marilyn) Huber; and sister, Dixie (Clyde) Huber Anthem.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 18, at First United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Delmar Dean Huber

Harlan “Lee” Enyart, 81, of Lindsborg, KS and formerly of Marquette, KS, passed away October 10, 2024.&nbsp; He was born November 11, 1942, in Missouri to Waneta Fern (Grable) Stanfield.&nbsp; He joined the Navy when he was 18 years old and served for four years.

He moved to Olathe, Kansas in 1968 where he met his wife, Fayetta B. (McCall) Enyart.&nbsp; They were married October 4, 1969.&nbsp; The first of three children was born in 1970.

They moved to Bennington, Kansas and then to Marquette, Kansas in 1983 when he started working for Great Plains Manufacturing in Assaria, Kansas, and was transferred to Salina, Kansas in 1987.&nbsp; He spent 30 years there and retired in 2017.

Lee was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his wife, Fayetta Enyart, parents, brothers, Kenny Stanfield and Larry Stanfield.

Survivors include children, Trampest Enyart (Jennifer) of Marquette, KS, Mechell Heart (Steve) of Lindsborg, KS, Danny Enyart of Marquette, KS; six grandchildren, Michaela (Seth), Haley (Brandon), Hannah (Garret), Haddie (Clayton), Hayden (Jaelynn), and Hazel; great-grandchildren, Melina, Corbyn, Wesson, Kalvin, Kingley, Aliyah, Ashton, Carson, Mia, Nova, and Liliana; out of state siblings, nieces, and nephews.&nbsp; All of whom will greatly miss him.

A private family graveside service will be held at Smoky Hill Cemetery, Lindsborg.&nbsp;

Harlan “Lee” Enyart

Kenny Lee September 21, 1946 ~&nbsp;June 10, 2024

A brain tumor felled Kenny Lee and he died on June 10, 2024.&nbsp; Yet his heart never faltered.&nbsp; He was a very kind and compassionate man; an extraordinary father; and a person loved by many.&nbsp; Ken went out of his way to be helpful to others, even strangers.&nbsp; He was a humble person.&nbsp; He was also quite accomplished.

Kenny Lee was born on Sept. 21, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York.&nbsp; He was the second of three children of Helen and Larry Lee, Jr.&nbsp;

Kenny was a trailblazer, athlete, war hero, leader, and world traveler.&nbsp; In the 1950s, Kenny was one of very few Asian American child actors.&nbsp; He performed in the musical “The King and I” and in the comedy “The Teahouse of the August Moon.” &nbsp;While in the shows’ national touring companies he traveled twice across the United States.

A gifted athlete, Kenny was voted the outstanding back on Brooklyn’s Erasmus Hall High School football team. He was a running back on the Kansas Wesleyan University football team until a knee injury ended his career.&nbsp; Kenny won or placed in eight Salina Y racquetball competitions.&nbsp; He finished twenty half marathons and was delighted that he and his daughter Jeni were both finishers at the 2006 New York City marathon.

After he graduated KWU in 1969, Kenny was drafted into the United States Army.&nbsp; Serving in Vietnam – a 360° war without a front or rear – he was especially vulnerable as an Asian American because he could be mistaken for the enemy.&nbsp; Yet, Kenny was awarded two bronze stars for valor.&nbsp; The citation reads, “Under mortar, rocket propelled grenades, and machine gun fire - through his timely and courageous actions, Private Lee was instrumental in thwarting the enemy attack.&nbsp; He continued to keep himself exposed to additional enemy fire while assisting several of his wounded comrades into MEDEVAC helicopters.”&nbsp;

After receiving his master’s in physical education from Springfield College, Kenny returned to Salina and worked in the United States Postal Service.&nbsp; Kenny was proud of his 33-year career at the USPS.&nbsp; He worked his way up to Postmaster and was beloved by his colleagues.&nbsp;

After retirement Kenny traveled extensively.&nbsp; Mostly by cruise ship, except for Antarctica, he voyaged to all continents and toured more than 40 countries.&nbsp;

Kenny is survived by his daughter, Jeni Lee-Peterson, his son-in-law, Roman Peterson; his ex-wife Lee Ann Burwell; his estranged wife Susan Burt; his stepchildren, Spencer Burt, Emily Helm and Marieke Goates, and their families; and by his older brother, Larry Lee III, younger sister, Laurie Lee, and their families.

A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held at First Southern Baptist on Oct. 18th, 2024 at 11am with a luncheon to follow.

Kenny Lee

Paul Michael Holloway was born March 27, 1948, in the McPherson County General Hospital, McPherson, Kansas. He peacefully passed away in the late-night hours of October 7, 2024, reaching the age of 76.

His parents were Sherman C Holloway and Verna D Ellsworth-Lyon Holloway. He and his family lived on a farm about 2 miles to the north of Inman, Kansas, on the Inman-Conway blacktop. The family moved to Inman in the fall of 1954 and moved back to the farm in the fall of 1959. He attended Inman grade school until the middle of his 8th&nbsp;grade year when the family moved to Garden Grove, California, in February of 1962 and he completed his grade school education at Izaak Walton Junior High. He then attended and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1966, Fullerton Junior College in 1969 and Cal-State University at Fullerton in September of 1970. He entered post-graduate studies and received his teacher’s certificate a year later. He taught at Loara High School in Anaheim, California, for two years. When the economy failed, he had no job and the family was having financial difficulties due to his father’s ill health after a heat stroke and subsequent brain strokes. He started work at Minute Temporary Help Services: first as an employee being sent out to various jobs and then as Office Manager in their Santa Ana office. He never forgot his experience in finding a body in the weeds next to the Bellflower Office while he was in training. It fundamentally changed his spiritual outlook on mortality and hell. He was an active member of the Garden Grove First Christian Youth Group and had many enjoyable times going with them to Gaviota Beach, Lake Arrowhead, Needles/Colorado River, Sequoia National Park and other places while he was a member.

The family had an opportunity to move back to Kansas in August of 1974 to a farm that was given to Sherman by Grandma Anna. By this time, the family consisted of two sons and two daughters, the oldest two having been married and living in California. Paul started working at the CertainTeed Pipe Plant in McPherson, Kansas in September of 1974 and was employed there until February of 2007 at which time he sought for, and found, employment at Gospel Tract and Bible Society in Moundridge, Kansas. He worked there until his retirement. He very much enjoyed the conversations with his co-workers and the communications with others done via letter, e-mails and phone conversations.

Paul had noticed people that appeared to be different in quality as well as in kind from the people with whom he associated: the peace that most had was the single-outstanding characteristic that commended itself to him. He remembered a conversation in the break-room at CertainTeed in which a Church of God in Christ Mennonite member had talked about his daughter’s upcoming wedding and how pleased he was that she was marrying a Christian man of the same faith as her. After he left the break-room, something prompted Paul to ask the others what they felt about this member’s faith and salvation. The interesting point was that they all felt that one could be saved in ‘that church’ but they didn’t feel confident in being saved in one another’s churches.

It was after that, the Lord began to lead Paul closer to the truth and His people. During his search for the truth, Paul was invited to attend services at the Zion Mennonite Church in August of 1980. He kept attending there and came under spiritual conviction of sin and finally, the Friday after Thanksgiving while attending revivals, gave his heart to the Lord and was born again. There was much learning that needed to be done, but he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in January of 1982. He served in many positions including Sunday School teacher, Bible Study Committee, Sunday School Superintendent, Tract Committee, School Board and so on.

Paul felt led to attend Lone Tree church and there found many more friends and his life companion, Grace Koehn. They were united in marriage on September 28, 1986. He transferred back to Zion in 1993 when the eldest child started school, as Plainview School was much closer than Sunflower School. They had four children in 6 years, so Dad and Mom were kept busy. They lived on the Holloway home place where his parents and grandparents had lived. There were always gardens, livestock, and pets around and Dad enjoyed them all. He liked to hear singing and found a particular joy in hearing his children sing at home as a group. Dad developed Type 2 diabetes in his later years but managed to persevere in spite of it. He always enjoyed reading the bible and sharing his thoughts and queries with his friends and family.

He leaves behind his wife Grace, children: Caleb and wife Kristi; Daniel and wife Rebekah; Jemima; and Micah and wife Natalie. He is survived by three granddaughters, five grandsons; three sisters, Linda Paul, Chris Pitts, Janet Dickerson and a brother, John Sherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Kathy Boone.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Inman, KS.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Sunday, October 13, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Zion Church Cemetery.

There were always gardens, livestock, and pets around and Dad enjoyed them all. He liked to hear singing and found a particular joy in hearing his children sing at home as a group. Dad developed Type 2 diabetes in his later years but managed to persevere in spite of it. He always enjoyed reading the bible and sharing his thoughts and queries with his friends and family.He leaves behind his wife Grace, children: Caleb and wife Kristi; Daniel and wife Rebekah; Jemima; and Micah and wife Natalie. Marsha Ann Eastman, 73, of Salina, Kan., passed away peacefully Monday, October 7, 2024. She was born in Arkansas City, Kan., on May 2, 1951, to Lawrence and Mona Jean (Linton) Breault.

Marsha was a stay-at-home mom and raised her two sons, Kevin Eastman and Kerry Eastman until they were in school, and then she worked at USD 305. She loved it when the grandkids came to see her. It put one big smile on her face.

Marsha loved to watch Wheel of Fortune and the Kansas City Chiefs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Kerry.

She is survived by her husband, Randy Eastman; son, Kevin and wife Denise; three grandchildren, Conner, Cameron, and Kenndy; and brother, Robert and wife Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marsha’s honor may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Hospital, care of Ryan Mortuary.

Roy Lee Mark, 79 passed away October 6, 2024 at St Francis Hospital in Wichita with his loving family by his side. He was born September 10, 1945 in Lawrence, Kansas the son of Albert and Helen (Hyson) Mark. 

On September 2, 1984 he was united in marriage to Cathi in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roy and Cathi spent most of their married life living in Oklahoma. After Cathi’s passing in 2017, Roy and his dog went to live with his daughter Tammy and her husband Justin in Hope where he remained until his passing. Roy worked for Mid Central Sysco. He enjoyed playing golf, poker, spending time with his family, a good country western and watching sports with his son-in-law Justin. 

He is survived by his two daughters, Tammy Campbell (Justin) of Hope and Angela Tilton (Joe) of Gardner, Kansas. One son, Tim Mark and wife Kathy of Overland Park, Kansas. Grandchildren: Kaylena Nash; Melissa Yates; Spencer Tilton; Tristen Tilton; Shamina Branch (Stepphon); Lyricsen and Zamir and one great-grandduahgter, Olivia Nash and six nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Cathi Mark; siblings, Robert Mark, Marsha Louise Mark, Evelyne Grammer and Jeff Shores.

Paul Llamas, 88 of Abilene passed away October 3, 2024. He was born November 21, 1935 in Saffordville, Kansas the son of Paublo and Maria (Santoyo) Llamas. He grew up around the Newton area, attending the local schools and graduating from Newton High. On August 3, 1954 he enlisted in the United Marine Corp. He was honorably discharged in August of 1957. On June 22, 1961 he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Alvarez-Hernandez in El Paso, Texas. She preceded him in death

August 23, 2015. Paul owned and operated Llamas Cement &amp; Construction for over 50 years, covering a wide area from Larned, Kansas to Manhattan, Kansas. It would be hard to find a piece of concrete in the Abilene area that isn’t stamped with the Llamas Cement &amp; Construction logo. He retired from his concrete business in the early 2000’s. Paul had numerous hobbies and interests but he could often be found outside taking care of his yard. Paul moved into Frontier Estates where he would make good friends. Paul is survived by his daughter, Katherine (John) Dobkins and son, Bernie (Annette) Hernandez, one sister, Carmen Sauceda, a special granddaughter, Michelle (Vance) Riffel, fourteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Paul Llamas

Edwin William Dent, Jr., 82 passed away on October 04, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family.

Edwin was born on April 23, 1942 in Salina, KS to parents of Edwin William Sr and Mary Irene Pinkenburg.

Junior was working as a Farmer/Rancher for most of his life, starting since he was knee high with his dad and granddad. As a child he was very active in 4H and showed Ayrshire cattle. He graduated from Assaria High School in 1960. He married Robbie (aka Roberta) Breer, May 22, 1982. In this union they had 2 children, a son Weston W Dent and daughter Krystal L (Soler) Dent. Junior was a jack of all trades working hard and playing harder. He owned and operated several businesses including Kansas Insulation services, Dent’s White Park Cattle, Kansas Dorpers, and&nbsp;Dent’s Cattle Company. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed many hobbies which included working with horses, a dirt track race car driver, rodeo cowboy and an avid coyote hunter. Out of all of his hobbies he enjoyed coyote hunting the most as this was passed down for many generations and still holds true to this day as his wife, kids, and their kids enjoy going every winter.

For over 35 years Junior was well known all over the state putting on pedal tractor pull events under Dent’s Pedal Power. He enjoyed watching kids challenge themselves and the overall nature of competition which he instilled in his children and has continued to this day of holding pedal pulls that now his grandchildren compete in and help run.

Under his rough exterior he had a big heart and was always willing to help others in need in and around the community. He was always willing to give the shirt off his back and lend a helping hand. Even rough and tough cowboys had soft spots for those in need.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; Edwin Sr and Marie Dent.

Edwin is survived by Roberta E Dent (Breer); Children: Weston Dent and spouse Danya, their 2 children (Steven and Brylee), Krystal (Dent) Soler and spouse Christain, their 2 children (Cayson and Raylon); others: Diane Pate (Sister) of Andalusia, AL her 2 children (Todd and Tammi), Duane Dent (Brother) and his spouse Chris of Caldwell, ID and their 2 children (Shawn and KayLynn), and many other nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 5-7 PM at Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford. Edwin William Dent

Landess Lee (Lanny) Norstrom, 77, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on October 5, 2024, in the presence of family members after an eight month battle with the effects of a stroke suffered in February of that year.&nbsp; Lanny was born to Landess L. and Leona Nerine (Milleson) Norstrom on January 3, 1947.&nbsp; He was the New Year's baby in McPherson, Kansas, having been born in McPherson Hospital.

Lanny spent his initial years on the family farm outside of Roxbury, Kansas.&nbsp; The family moved from the farm to the house that he grew up in on Walnut St. in Canton, Kansas.&nbsp; Lanny attended the Canton Schools, being active in the sports of football, basketball, and track and also participating in the band, playing the trombone.&nbsp; He graduated from Canton High School in 1965, receiving his diploma from his father who was a member of the Board of Education.

Lanny began his post-secondary education at McPherson College, attending for a year before deciding to take some time to explore what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.&nbsp; It was during this time that he went to work for the Hesston Corporation as a mechanic working on hay harvesting equipment in Arizona and California.

It was in the next year or two that he decided to continue his education in business, attending Washburn University in Topeka.&nbsp; It was here that he became engaged to his life-long love, Pam Lindberg.&nbsp; They began their life together while Lanny was still attending classes at Washburn.&nbsp; It was when they learned that their first born, Michael, was on the way that Lanny decided it was time to go back to work, getting a job in the offices of the Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka.

Both sons, Michael and Eric, were born in Topeka.&nbsp; Pam and Lanny were members of the Westside Christian Church in Topeka, serving as youth leaders.&nbsp; Many of the friendships formed there continue today.&nbsp; Pam and Lanny celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 20, 2019, being virtually inseparable over the years.

The decision was made to move back to rural Galva in 1974 to help with the Lindberg family farm.&nbsp; It was at this time that they moved to the Lindberg homestead five miles north of Galva, and raised their two sons, and spent the remainder of their lives.&nbsp; One of the few dark moments in their time together came on June 15, 1992, when the farm was visited by an F5 tornado.&nbsp; It was ¾ of a mile wide when it came by, leaving little behind.&nbsp; Thankfully, no one was injured, and they began the process of rebuilding “Gone With The Wind Estates”, as they appropriately now call the property.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Lanny who has always been involved with the schools, became a member of the Board of Education for 12 years, with a good chunk of that time serving as the president of the board.&nbsp; He handed both son’s their high school diplomas.&nbsp; Even after leaving the formal position on the board, Lanny was an ever present fan, whether his grandkids were involved in the activity or not.&nbsp; Many times, he would arrive at an event, home or away, so early that he would need to return from the stands to purchase a ticket once the ticket takers arrived.

Pam and Lanny joined the Galva Christian Church upon moving back to central Kansas.&nbsp; Lanny held many positions in the church, including president of the board, elder, and was recently honored with the title of elder emeritus.&nbsp; He was also very involved with the state men’s group for the Christian Church in Kansas, and with the establishment and improvement of Camp Tawakoni.

Upon their return to Galva, Lanny began working for the Home Telephone Company on April 1, 1975, and retired on December 31, 2009, after 39 and a half years.&nbsp; He proudly put a personalized license plate on his vehicle, “FONEMAN”, for all to see.&nbsp; Upon retiring from the phone office, he and Pam worked for several years with the rural water district.&nbsp; Lanny performed the maintenance on the system while Pam kept the books.

Lanny cherished every moment spent with all of his grandkids, following them to sporting events, scouting events, community events, or whatever they chose to be involved in.&nbsp; It didn’t matter what the activity was, Lanny and Pam were all in with their support.

Another low spot in Lanny and Pam’s life together came in the summer of 2017 when Pam received a diagnosis of gallbladder cancer.&nbsp; While Pam was ever positive in her battle with the disease, she was quick to mention that Lanny was always there as her guardian angel.&nbsp; He accompanied her to her many obligations as the state president of the Christian Women in Kansas.&nbsp; Wherever she was, you didn’t need to look far to see Lanny.&nbsp; He was a constant in her three year battle, losing her in February, 2020.

Lanny was preceded in death by his wife, Pam; and his parents, Landess and Nerine.

He leaves behind:&nbsp; two sons, Mike and wife Karla, and Eric and wife Treva; four grandchildren, Zach (Mike’s) and wife Oliva, Drew (Mike’s) and wife Jaime, Taryn (Eric’s) and husband Brandon, and Ryder (Eric’s).&nbsp; Extended family members and friends are too many to mention, as Lanny never met a stranger.

The family wants to thank the many who have stopped by to visit dad over these last several months, for the lifelong friendships, the many prayers, thoughts and well wishes that have been sent, and for all the love that you have provided. Please hear dad’s patent response, “Love Ya’ Back!”

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday October 25, at Galva Christian Church.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 26, with a meal to follow, all at the church.

It didn’t matter what the activity was, Lanny and Pam were all in with their support.Another low spot in Lanny and Pam’s life together came in the summer of 2017 when Pam received a diagnosis of gallbladder cancer.&nbsp; While Pam was ever positive in her battle with the disease, she was quick to mention that Lanny was always there as her guardian angel.&nbsp; He accompanied her to her many obligations as the state president of the Christian Women in Kansas.&nbsp; Wherever she was, you didn’t need to look far to see Lanny.&nbsp; He was a constant in her three year battle, losing her in February, 2020.Lanny was preceded in death by his wife, Pam; and his parents, Landess and Nerine.He leaves behind:&nbsp; two sons, Mike and wife Karla, and Eric and wife Treva; four grandchildren, Zach (Mike’s) and wife Oliva, Drew (Mike’s) and wife Jaime, Taryn (Eric’s) and husband Brandon, and Ryder (Eric’s).&nbsp; Extended family members and friends are too many to mention, as Lanny never met a stranger.The family wants to thank the many who have stopped by to visit dad over these last several months, for the lifelong friendships, the many prayers, thoughts and well wishes that have been sent, and for all the love that you have provided. Dorothy Evelyn Duncan, a private and cherished soul, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Born in Temple, Texas on February 10,1938.

She devoted her life to raising her twin daughters, Darcy Busch(husband, Tim), daughter, Marcy Ramsey (husband, Bob) and her son, Scott Duncan (wife, Kathy) &amp; and the youngest daughter, Michelle Chora( husband, Procoro). Dorothy was blessed with 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Jimmie (McDowell) Alman and her brother: Paul Jr.

Dorothy spent 25 years in the hospital food service industry, both at Scott City hospital, and Asbury in Salina, and retiring from Asbury.

A passionate fan of Elvis Presley, his music provided her with comfort and joy, reflecting a side of her spirit that resonated deeply with those who knew her.

Dorothy will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12th at 11:00AM in the Ray Ave Baptist Church; 2801 Ray Ave, Salina, KS 67401.

Loran Lee Forbes was born in Wray, Colorado on January 10, 1948. &nbsp;He went to meet his Savior on September 26, 2024, in Salina, Kansas at 76 years of age.

Loran knew Jesus at an early age. &nbsp;He sang and preached on a gospel team while attending Bethany Nazarene College. &nbsp;He pastored several churches in northwestern Oklahoma and southeastern Nebraska. &nbsp;In Kansas, he led Bible studies in his church and retirement centers. He loved uniting couples together in marriage and officiating at funerals.

Loran met and married Eva Nell Pierce (later divorced) with whom two children were born, Kile and Courtney. &nbsp;He loved spending time with family and taught them many things including how to work hard with their hands and accomplish building projects.

Loran was a great leader who was steadfast in his convictions. &nbsp;He would stand up for what he knew was right, and you usually knew where he stood. His hands were never idle as he was always building or fixing things for someone else or in his own home.

Loran was known for his sense of humor. &nbsp;From dad jokes to long drawn-out stories with a punchline, he would try his best to brighten anyone’s day.

Loran had a big heart. &nbsp;He would give people a place to stay in his own home if they needed it.

Loran was employed for over ten years as a bail bondsman in Kansas. &nbsp;He led people to Christ by showing them compassion when they needed it most.

Loran is survived by his children Kile and Melody Forbes from Richmond, Virginia, and Mike and Courtney Cerny from Bayard, Nebraska; grandchildren Cymone (Mike) Gochenour, Luke Forbes, and Leah Cerny; great grandchildren Carter, Peyton, and Riley Gochenour; brothers Vearlon Forbes and Elwyn “Al” Forbes; brother-in-law Stan Mylander, sister-in-law Trudy Forbes, and sister-in-law Beth Forbes; and special friend Lynette Lorenson.

Loran is predeceased by his parents Harold and Martha Forbes, sister Ellen Marie Mylander, brother Garry Forbes, and sister-in-law Sharon Forbes.

A celebration of life service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel on October 12, 2024, at 11:00 am. Memorial donations can be made to Salina Rescue Mission or Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina.

Loran Lee Forbes 

Richard (Dick) Alvin Millner passed away at the age of 82 on September 28, 2024 in Abilene, KS.

He was born to Alvin and Dorothy Millner on March 4, 1942 in San Antonio, TX.

Richard graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1960. He worked on the oil rigs in South Texas and had various retail jobs in his younger years before moving to Abilene, KS in 1975 to work for Duckwall, Alco as an electronics buyer. He retired in 2000 to pursue his hobbies of golﬁng, riding his motorcycle, and working in his woodshop. He was also an avid reader, enjoying westerns and many other genres.

Richard married Lynda Millican in 1961 and to that union three children, Adam, Jill and David were born.

On October 6, 1990 Richard married Marita Horan McAsey and he gained three more daughters, Camille, Tamara and Jennifer.

Richard had many hobbies and interests, but he enjoyed family most of all. He was proud of all of his children and grandchildren, their spouses and his great grandchildren. He loved family traditions and instilled that love in his family who will continue to honor those traditions in their own lives. His stories of growing up in South Texas were enjoyed by his children and grandchildren, and those stories are sure to be re-told for generations to come.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, son Adam Millner and grandson River Wilson Millner. He is survived by his wife, Marita Millner; children Camille (Russell) Wheeler, Tamara (Ron) Leard, Jill Millner (Steve) Lang, Jennifer (Brady) Showalter, and David Millner; Brother Bill Millner. Grandchildren Killian (Sheridan) Millner, Zoe Millner, Olivia (Gus Bryant) Crist, Ava Crist, Kassidi (Matt) Lienemann, Kain Anderson, Bryce Wheeler, Bailey Wheeler, Cody (Kari Barner) Pfaff, Keith (Kodi Bays) Pfaff, Carrie (Carson) Long, Austin (Brittany) Showalter, Sean Brice, Meghan (Cody) Reesman, Madison (Brandon) Heilman, Cameron (Jessie Amann) Lang, Cassie Lang, Cody (Sierra) Lang; 17 great grandsons and one great granddaughter due in February of 2025.

In lieu of a funeral, Richard asked for a party to celebrate his life. Friends are invited to join the family on Saturday, October 12 at Abilene Golf and Fitness from 5pm to 8pm.

Richard wanted to set up a college fund for his great grandchildren. Friends may contribute if they wish by bringing contributions to the party or sending them to Marita at the home.

Dixie May Lanning, 92, of Salina, died Friday, October 2, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salina. Mrs. Lanning was born January 15, 1932, in Salina to Manford Hamilton and Susanita H. (Smith) Bartley. 

Dixie grew up in Salina and attended Kansas Wesleyan University. Upon graduation, she enlisted as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and was serving in Corpus Christi, Texas where she met her future husband of 55 years, Donald. who was also from Salina. Upon returning to Salina. she taught school at Roosevelt-Lincoln Junior High School. While teaching she received her master's degree from Emporia State University in Library Science. Dixie spent the next 30 years working as the librarian for Bethany College. During her time at Bethany, she earned her PhD (ABD) in Library Science at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Dixie held the title Professor Emerita of Library Science until her death at Bethany College. 

Dixie was a prolific reader and always had a book or two in her purse. She was a collector of antiques and any historical item from Salina. Dixie had a great love for her family and her family’s roots in Salina. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Charles and Susan Haskit, early homesteaders in Saline County and one of the original six families on the town charter of Salina. Haskit (now spelled Haskett) and Smith Streets in the Hageman Addition are named for members of her family. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rotary Club. 

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Ray, sister Mary Sue Harris, and daughter Diana Marie Shaft. She is survived by her son David John (Carolyn) of Salina, son-in-law Gerald Duane Shaft of Salina, five grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Ingalsbe (Kalen Curtis), Madison Regan and Wyatt Donald Lanning, and Travis Jeffery (Kathryn Brooks) and Trenton James (Erin Maili) Shaft, and eight great-grandchildren. 

A private memorial service will be planned for a later date. Please make memorials to either the Kansas Wesleyan University Memorial Library or the Bethany College Wallerstedt Library.

Kevin Eugene Swick, 65, formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at his home in Little Flock, AR.&nbsp; He was a sales clerk at the Cabela’s store in Rogers, AR.&nbsp;

Kevin was born May 13, 1959, in McPherson, KS, the son of Donald Keith and Hazel Ozeta (Decker) Swick.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School.

Survivors include his sister, Saundra Bruce of McPherson, KS; brother, Darryl Swick of McPherson, KS; niece, Shana (John) Gollihar of McPherson, KS; nephew, Jason (Kala) Bruce of McPherson, KS; great-nieces &amp; nephews, Casey (Kayla) Baker, Chad Jensen, Aaron Jensen, Alex (Michael) Kaiser, Jordan Gollihar, and Taylor Bruce; 13 great-great-nieces &amp; nephews; and many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gary Bruce.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Crestwood Memorial Park, McPherson.

Doris Chloe McCall, 100, of New Cambria, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday, October 3.

Doris was born in Clyde, Kansas on January 3, 1924, to Vesta "Resco" and Paul Stolzenburg.

Doris and Robert were married in Concordia, Kansas on May 7th, 1942. She later received her Food Service Director Certificate and worked at Windsor Estates for several years.

In her free time, Doris loved to travel, crochet, and complete crosswords. Her family was her number one priority and she was always there for them when needed.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Tammy Lewis (Larry), of Meriden, Kansas; Tyra Farris (Lonnie), of Webb City, Missouri; and a son, Bob McCall (Ann), of New Cambria, Kansas.

She is also survived by grandchildren, Stephan McCall (Kim), Shilind Wheaton, Misty Hill (Matt), Wendy Bohachick (Matt), Curtis Farris (Charlotte); 8 great grandchildren.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Eldon Stolzenburg; infant brother, Max Stolzenburg; and sisters, Keta Hiner, Elaine Smith, and Lois Shotwell.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina, Kansas.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 10th, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Helen “Renie” Green, 76, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024.&nbsp; She was born in Salina, on March 1, 1948, to Flavis and Dorothy (Scott) Kilgariff.&nbsp; She married Robert “Bob” Green on March 30, 1973 and he passed away, March 17, 1999.&nbsp; Renie graduated from Tescott High School in 1966.&nbsp; She was a local business owner and hairdresser for many years.

She is survived by her husband Steve Echer, of the home; children, Lonnie Green (Valerie), of Denver, Lori Robinson (Mike), of Solomon; grandchildren, Bobby Robinson and Scott Robinson; stepchildren, Shelby Hume (Brian), of Wichita, Carrie Marvin (Don), of Leon and Wade Echer (Camille), of Connecticut; step-grandchildren, Cheyenne Marvin, Sierra Hockett, Savannah Marvin, Jordan Echer (Bailey) and (Lena and Jack Echer); two step great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Bob.

A celebration of Renie’s life will be Saturday, October 12, at Rooster’s Tavern.&nbsp; An inurnment at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, will take place at a later date.

Helen “Renie” Green

Obituaries are hard. Not just for the obvious fact of having to write about the loss of a loved one. No, the most challenging part is trying to determine how one can truly summarize a life on paper. 

From a high-level view, Tamara Lyn (McCall) Strange passed away peacefully at the age of 56 in the early morning of October 1, 2024. She was the wife of 29 years to Stoney Strange, had three sons, Dakota, Ty and Walker Strange and a daughter-in-law, Samantha Strange, who is due with their first child in November. She was a sister to Gina (Preston) Stewart and Tracy Fox (Jon) Weninger. She was a daughter to her father and beloved stepmother, Tom and Patty McCall, as well as her late mother Cathy Thompson who passed in 2011. She was fortunate enough to experience a large family with many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. And she was a friend to even more. She was loved by many, and she loved back.

However, this high-level view does not paint the full picture. It does not show that during Tamara’s final days in the hospital, there were rarely less than 10 people at a time there to see her, sit by her, hold her hand and tell her they love her. It does not show how, even in a time of sadness, she had a special ability to bring everybody together.

This high-level view does not show you that Tam was a woman of simple pleasures. Tam loved her quiet house in Inman, Kansas where you could see the stars clearly at night and would fall asleep to the mooing of the neighbor’s cattle only to be awoken in the morning by her sons yelling as they zoomed through the yard on go-carts. Tam’s love of the simple things also extended to fuzzy socks and pajama pants as she had overflowing drawers with each. Though this was often her outfit of choice at home, she would not be caught dead outside the house wearing these (no offense to those who do wear pajama pants out and about).

This high-level view does not show you that Tam was naturally skilled in many traits and qualities that several of us lack. She was a strong listener and though she was often quiet, you never forgot that she was there. Tam had an innate ability to make you feel seen when speaking to her. And she rarely spoke out of turn, unless, of course, she was arguing the ruling of a board game. Because another thing about Tam that the high-level view does not show you is that she was secretly very competitive.

The high-level view does not show you that Tam was also a successful business owner of a local fruit stand, Tam’s Country Fresh, and Kansas State Fair restaurant, The Fruit Bowl. There, she taught her three young sons the value of an early morning and hard day’s work. She taught them how to properly count change back to customers without using a calculator. But most importantly, she continued to let them be kids and made sure they knew that it was okay, and even encouraged, to taste the product. You see, it’s hard NOT to buy the fresh fruit when you see three happy boys with juices dripping down their chins. You could say she knew a bit about marketing and sales too.

Tam was one of the good ones. She cared deeply for her friends and family. She loved her husband, Stoney, as they were always having fun together, pulling pranks on their friends, creating memorable moments for their kids and enjoying the life they had built together. And though Stoney would often repeat long, detailed stories almost daily, Tam would (most of the time) let him tell them, though rarely doing so without a hidden eye roll. Tam had a soft smile and incredibly expressive eyebrows that could tell a story without saying a word.

Tam passed peacefully after a long battle with cancer. She was a fighter even during her final days. In typical Tam fashion, she waited until the room cleared, just momentarily, as she hated being the center of attention. From there, she entered eternal rest. And she did so wearing her favorite fuzzy socks.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Countryside Covenant Church, 940 E. Northview Ave., McPherson, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Xi lota Epsilon for their Red Hat Event, where proceeds will be gifted to families fighting cancer in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Tamara Lyn (McCall) Strange

We sadly announce the passing of our loved one, Ryan Anthony Martinez, 41, of McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born September 27, 1982, and died September 15, 2024.&nbsp; He was native to central California and lived in the McPherson/Hutchinson, KS area for the past two years to be closer to his mother.

Ryan was a soft spoken, gentle, kind, and compassionate man.&nbsp; He loved his family and friends dearly. He especially had a love for all things nature.

Ryan is survived by his mother and step-father, Robin and Russell Vincent; his grandparents, Maureen and Kenny Baumbauch; his estranged father, Rick Martinez; his sisters, Jenn Howards and family, Cassie Maizon and family, Chelsey O’Quinn, Brittinie Avilla and family, and Destinie Roberts and family.&nbsp; He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. &nbsp;&nbsp;All who know him are already missing him and will miss him in the days and years to come.&nbsp; R.I.P.

Gerald Rufener, 70, of Salina, KS, Passed away September 27, 2024 In Salina, KS.

Gerald was born on June 14, 1954, in Wichita KS, and was adopted by Cecil and Harriet Rufener of Hope, KS. He graduated from Hope High School in 1973 and went on to work at Beach Aircraft for 31 years. Gerald married Wilma Iseli in 1977 and they had one son, Brian, then later divorced. He married his current wife, Grace, in 2013.

Gerald has been a member of The Odd Fellows Lodge since 2005. He enjoyed his hobbies of hunting, fishing, model trains and woodworking. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; Grace. Sons; Brian (Kristen) of Salina, KS and their children; Austin, Samantha (Matthew), Tyler (McKenzie), Hayden and Jay; Michael Huth (Katherine) of Pearland, TX and their children, Sophia and Lauren. Lynn of Salina; Kathleen of Salina and Therese of L.A. California. His brother, Wayne Rufener (Judy), sister Pamela Sheets (Jeffery) and brother-in-law (Ed Brownell) . Along with his beloved great grandchildren; Oliver, Lucas, Eva and Londyn. Nieces and nephews; Zac Sheets (Chanelle), Shantel Sheets; Kaleb and Lindsey Greenemeyer.&nbsp; As well as many extended family and friends.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Harriet and his younger sister Joyce.

Funeral services will be held at St. Philip Catholic Church in Hope, KS, on October 12th at 10:30 am for a joint funeral with his sister, Joyce Brownell of Kansas City. No burial is planned, his family will spread his ashes at a later date. part of his ashes will later be interned with his wife Grace.
