Arthur L. Perry June 27, 1926 ~&nbsp;February 1, 2024

Arthur L. Perry, 97, Tescott, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024.&nbsp; Art was born June 27, 1926, on a farm west of Tescott, the son of A.C. (Bink) and Sylvia (Reinking) Perry.

Except for a few years in the United States Navy during WWII and four years at the University of Kansas, Art was a lifetime resident of the Tescott area.&nbsp; Art dairy and grain farmed with his dad, taught school for a few years, and dealt antiques and Redwing stoneware.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick; and sister-in-law, Barb.

Survivors are his sister, Lila Berkley of Salina; brother Dennis Perry of Mentor; sister-in-law, Doris Perry of Salina; nieces, Lila Jean Alexander of Houston, TX and Heather Perry of Mentor; and her children Orion and Olivia; nephew, John Perry of Tescott; and his children, Richae, Cole, Zach, Katie, and Johnna.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 9 at Culver Union Cemetery.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oaks Indian Mission, P.O. Box 130, Oaks, OK 74359 or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis.

Deborah Louise Cheswick, of Salina, Kansas passed away unexpectedly on February 3rd, 2024.&nbsp; Deborah was born on September 2nd, 1951 in Salina, Kansas to Richard and Deane Webb, deceased, and her loving siblings followed her in birth, Dennis Webb, of Wichita, Kansas, and Rebecca Mettlen, of Salina, Kansas&nbsp; Deborah graduated from Lindsborg High School, and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas with a degree in education.&nbsp; Deborah lived in Salina, and Topeka, Kansas where she raised her children, and worked as an elementary school teacher.&nbsp;

Deborah was preceded in death by her husband Donald Cheswick, of Salina Kansas.&nbsp; Deborah is survived by her three daughters Sonia J. Krafels, and husband Jeffrey Krafels, of Manassas, Virginia, and granddaughters Hannah, Addison, and Sadie Krafels.&nbsp; Daughter, Susan R. Trafton, of Windsor, Colorado, and grandsons Slade Negus and Andrew Bruhl.&nbsp; Daughter, Maegan D. Joy, and husband Shawn Joy of Texhoma, Oklahoma, grandchildren Charlotte, and Cal Joy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Deborah focused her life on raising her children and enjoying time with her seven grandchildren.&nbsp; She was a passionate Democrat, avid reader, skilled quilter, longtime Kansas Jayhawk&nbsp; fan, and had a remarkable green thumb.&nbsp; She loved cheering on the Kansas Jayhawk basketball team. &nbsp; The Golden Rule guided her life, as well as her personal and political philosophies.&nbsp; Her legacy of unconditional kindness and love for her daughters and grandchildren will be forever treasured and remembered.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A celebration of her life reception will be held at Great Plains Hall inside Tony’s Pizza Events Center on Saturday, February 10th, 2024 in Salina, Ks from 2 pm - 4 pm.&nbsp; Please join us for refreshments during this time.

Kenneth “Kenny” Frank Branda October 19, 1943 ~&nbsp;February 1, 2024

Kenneth “Kenny” Frank Branda, of&nbsp;rural Wilson, passed away on February 1, 2024, at HaysMedical&nbsp;Center in Hays, Kansas, at the age of 80. &nbsp;He was born on October 19,&nbsp;1943,&nbsp;to Bohumil“Shorty”&nbsp;and Edith (Mahoney) Branda in Ellsworth, Kansas.&nbsp;

Kenny graduated from Wilson High School in 1961&nbsp;and went on to&nbsp;attend Fort Hays State University.&nbsp;He chose a ski trip over his finals, which ended his higher education.&nbsp;He married Amy (Hoch)&nbsp;in front of a few close friends and family&nbsp;on June 3, 2005,&nbsp;in&nbsp;rural Wilson. &nbsp;

Kenny farmed his whole&nbsp;life,&nbsp;which began&nbsp;with his father. He started plumbing in 1963 before starting Kennys Construction,&nbsp;Inc&nbsp;in 1972.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kenny was in the construction business for 52 years.Kenny played in the dirt every opportunity he had, whether it was moving and setting up drilling rigs, digging basements,&nbsp;or&nbsp;building roads&nbsp;and&nbsp;terraces.&nbsp;He was a perfectionist in his work and didn’t quit&nbsp;until&nbsp;the work was just right.&nbsp;Kenny would&nbsp;also&nbsp;move snow&nbsp;in the winter&nbsp;from the&nbsp;high&nbsp;school&nbsp;parking lot, clear&nbsp;streets&nbsp;and driveways for those who he knew needed to go to doctors’ appointments,&nbsp;etc.&nbsp;&nbsp;

God did not give&nbsp;Kenny&nbsp;patience. He would paint&nbsp;something and&nbsp;have&nbsp;it&nbsp;assembled&nbsp;before&nbsp;the paint&nbsp;even&nbsp;dried.&nbsp;Which resulted in getting paint all over his hands and clothes.&nbsp;Before he was old enough to have a license, he rode his bike to town and traded it for his first car. Later in life Kenny and Amy purchased two&nbsp;jet&nbsp;skis. &nbsp;Kenny had to&nbsp;try&nbsp;them&nbsp;out on&nbsp;the&nbsp;pond before he could get them on the lake. &nbsp;He and the jet ski both ended up on the shore.

Kenny&nbsp;was a member of&nbsp;St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus (Former Grand Knight), Wilson High&nbsp;School Alumni Association (Coordinator),&nbsp;Sons of the American Legion,Former City Council Member,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Former Wilson Fire Department Chief.&nbsp;

Kenny is survived by his wife, Amy&nbsp;of&nbsp;rural Wilson;&nbsp;daughters, Joan Branda&nbsp;of&nbsp;Trenton, TX, Sharon (Mike) McConnell&nbsp;of&nbsp;South Haven, KS; bonus son,&nbsp;Martin (Courtney) Swart&nbsp;of&nbsp;Canton, KS;&nbsp;five&nbsp;grandchildren, Kristin (Josh) Weger, Jessica (Cody) Douglas, Kaitlin (Roger) Graham, Breanna (Seth)&nbsp;Stroman, James McConnell&nbsp;and his&nbsp;two&nbsp;bonus grandchildren, Kensington and Oliver&nbsp;Swart&nbsp;and&nbsp;ten great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents. &nbsp;

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February&nbsp;10, 2024, at 10:00&nbsp;AM&nbsp;at&nbsp;the funeral&nbsp;home in Wilson.&nbsp;Visitation&nbsp;will be on Friday, 6:00-8:00&nbsp;PM&nbsp;with a Rosary at 7:00&nbsp;PM&nbsp;at the funeral home. Scattering will take place&nbsp;at a later time&nbsp;in Rural Wilson.&nbsp;

Paul V. Muller, 75, Tescott, died Friday, February 2, 2023, at his home. He was born June 8, 1948, in Salina to Victor R. and Dorothy E. (Peterson) Muller.

Paul was a 1966 graduate of Minneapolis High School and he then graduated from Southwestern College with a bachelor’s degree. Paul worked at E&amp;F Floorcovering for several years but was also a lifetime farmer.

Survivors are his sisters, Gail Flint and Jean Welch; nieces and nephews, Melanie, Thomas, Timothy Paul, and Tiffany; and his dear friend and companion, Rita Bronson.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 7 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 8 at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ottawa County Museum and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Milborn Navarro Hurlbert November 5, 1930 ~&nbsp;February 3, 2024

Milborn Navarro Hurlbert was born November 5, 1930 the son of Bud and Lena Hurlburt in Waco Missouri. Milborn passed away at Stormont Vail Flint Hills Campus in Junction City, Kansas Saturday February 3, 2024.

Milborn had served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952. Most of his working carrer was spent with Fairbainks Morse as a Millwright. Milborn is survived by his Son Brad Hurlbert and his wife Debra and two grandchildren. Milborn was preceeded in death by his parents, his first wife Doris, his second wife Marel Joan Hurlbert, his sisters Armenta and Jean and brothers Leonard and Carl.

The family has chosen cremation and a memorial service will be held in the Kansas City area in the spring.

Marla Claassen Hoffman February 16, 1941 ~ February 2, 2024

Marla (Claassen) Hoffman was born February 16, 1941, in Newton, KS to Walter A. Claassen and Jane (Entz) Claassen. &nbsp;She joined her older brother Donovan. &nbsp;They enjoyed life on the family farm and the close relationship with Claassen cousins who lived nearby. &nbsp;Marla attended Plum Grove School, a one-room school for the first &amp; second grades. The next 2 ½ years her family lived in Uruguay, South America, where she was home schooled. &nbsp;Her father was a volunteer with Mennonite Central Committee, helping refugees establish farms. &nbsp;She learned German, the common language among the refugees while in Uruguay and through her lifetime she loved using German phrases in unexpected situations, especially when replying to a telemarketer on the phone. &nbsp;Returning to the U.S. at age nine, she completed elementary schooling at Plum Grove until it closed, then transferring to the new consolidated school, Countryside.

&nbsp;It was during these years that her mother taught Child Evangelism Classes in the local elementary schools. &nbsp;Marla never forgot the day at one of those classes that she saw her need to confess her sins and place her faith in Jesus Christ. &nbsp;

4-H was a big part of Marla’s childhood, although she would be quick to tell you that commanding control of a 1200-1300 lb. steer at a young age was much more her Dad’s idea than hers!

She received her high school education at Berean Academy and then decided to pursue the field of cosmetology, beginning schooling in Los Angeles, CA, and graduating from Vernon’s School of Cosmetology in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;Cosmetology was her lifelong profession, first in Wichita, KS and then in TX. &nbsp;She retired in 2011. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Marla was especially fond of her three nephews, Dean, James and Jeff and she loved pouring into their lives. &nbsp;She spoiled them and was their biggest cheerleader, eventually welcoming their wives and later their children in so many special “Aunt Marla” ways. &nbsp;

In April, 1969, she married the love of her life, Bill Hoffman. &nbsp;Bill was employed with Anderson Clayton so they moved to Euless, TX, where they resided until her death. &nbsp;They made many lifetime friends during their nearly 55 years of marriage. &nbsp;Bill &amp; Marla enjoyed traveling and dining out with friends. &nbsp;She loved helping people. &nbsp;If her friends or family members couldn’t locate something, eventually someone would comment, “Tell Marla, if it’s available, she’ll find it!” &nbsp;&nbsp;

Marla was rarely ill, so it came as a surprise when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November of 2022. &nbsp;During the ups and downs of chemo, she took treatment in stride.

Marla was at peace with meeting her Savior on February 2, 2024. &nbsp;She left her husband Bill, her brother Donovan and wife Velma, three nephews and their wives, several brothers and sisters in law, numerous great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.

The family will gather for a private burial at the Haldeman Cemetery in rural Potwin, KS. &nbsp;

The next 2 ½ years her family lived in Uruguay, South America, where she was home schooled. &nbsp;Her father was a volunteer with Mennonite Central Committee, helping refugees establish farms. &nbsp;She learned German, the common language among the refugees while in Uruguay and through her lifetime she loved using German phrases in unexpected situations, especially when replying to a telemarketer on the phone. &nbsp;Returning to the U.S. at age nine, she completed elementary schooling at Plum Grove until it closed, then transferring to the new consolidated school, Countryside.&nbsp;It was during these years that her mother taught Child Evangelism Classes in the local elementary schools. &nbsp;Marla never forgot the day at one of those classes that she saw her need to confess her sins and place her faith in Jesus Christ. &nbsp;4-H was a big part of Marla’s childhood, although she would be quick to tell you that commanding control of a 1200-1300 lb. steer at a young age was much more her Dad’s idea than hers!She received her high school education at Berean Academy and then decided to pursue the field of cosmetology, beginning schooling in Los Angeles, CA, and graduating from Vernon’s School of Cosmetology in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;Cosmetology was her lifelong profession, first in Wichita, KS and then in TX. &nbsp;She retired in 2011. &nbsp;&nbsp;Marla was especially fond of her three nephews, Dean, James and Jeff and she loved pouring into their lives. &nbsp;She spoiled them and was their biggest cheerleader, eventually welcoming their wives and later their children in so many special “Aunt Marla” ways. &nbsp;In April, 1969, she married the love of her life, Bill Hoffman. &nbsp;Bill was employed with Anderson Clayton so they moved to Euless, TX, where they resided until her death. &nbsp;They made many lifetime friends during their nearly 55 years of marriage. &nbsp;Bill &amp; Marla enjoyed traveling and dining out with friends. &nbsp;She loved helping people. &nbsp;If her friends or family members couldn’t locate something, eventually someone would comment, “Tell Marla, if it’s available, she’ll find it!” &nbsp;&nbsp;Marla was rarely ill, so it came as a surprise when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November of 2022. &nbsp;During the ups and downs of chemo, she took treatment in stride.Marla was at peace with meeting her Savior on February 2, 2024. &nbsp;She left her husband Bill, her brother Donovan and wife Velma, three nephews and their wives, several brothers and sisters in law, numerous great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.The family will gather for a private burial at the Haldeman Cemetery in rural Potwin, KS. &nbsp;

Elaine Antoinette Walters May 2, 1934 ~ February 1, 2024

A Celebration of Life for Elaine Walters, age 89, of Abilene, Kansas, will be held Saturday, February 24, at Community Bible Church, Calvin Hall (lower level west entrance), 1400 N. Cedar, Abilene, Kansas. Friends and family will be welcomed for visiting at 2:00pm with a celebration of remembrance service beginning at 3:30pm. Rev. Lindsey Brummer will officiate. Elaine passed away peacefully, with her family nearby, on February 1, 2024, at Abilene Memorial Hospital.

Elaine Antoinette Anderson was born May 2, 1934, in Lincoln, Kansas, to Anton and Esther (Troup) Anderson, the youngest of three children. Elaine grew up in Lincoln where she was baptized and confirmed at the First United Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952 and then attended Kansas State University.

On January 3, 1954, Elaine and Richard Walters were united in marriage at the First United Presbyterian Church in Lincoln and celebrated 62 years of marriage. They created a rich life together with a foundation of faith, family, and many lifelong friendships. Their partnership expanded as Elaine joined Rich, along with her brother and sister-in-law, in creating Anderson's, Inc. They owned Anderson's Clothing Store in Lincoln, Bon Marche in Concordia, Plaza Style Shop in Salina, and Hamburg's in Abilene, where they moved in 1972. This business partnership lasted 42 years.

Elaine was an active member of the Presbyterian Church while in both Lincoln and Abilene, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Elder, Deacon, and choir member. She was a charter member of E.S.A. sorority in Lincoln, and a member of P.E.O. for 53 years, most recently in Chapter JQ. She volunteered at the Eisenhower Library and Abilene Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed reading and book club, the daily crossword puzzle, Scrabble, cards, cooking and baking (especially pies and her famous scotcheroo cookies), the many dogs that joined the family, and all activities involving her children and grandchildren. Elaine's gracious, kind spirit was apparent in all of her interactions, including the unconditional love she gave to her family and friends. She had the gift of hospitality, opening her home with warmth and humor, ready to be a good listener, turning attention to others rather than herself. She will be greatly missed.

Elaine is survived by her three children, daughter, Cathy (Ted) Hugghins of Fort Dodge, Iowa, son, Chris (Lisa Salsgiver) Walters of Andover, and son, David (Jodi) Walters of Abilene; seven grandchildren, Seth (Jaymie) Hugghins, Luke (Lexie) Hugghins, Hope (Zac) Hunt, Annie Walters, Hayley (Hunter) Taylor, Allie (Nathan) Ross, and Jaden (Layton) Reynolds; two great grandchildren, Hudson and Denver Hugghins, and nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Rich Walters in 2016, her daughter-in-law, Marcia Walters, sister, Barbara Hanefield (husband Bob), brother, Bob Anderson (wife Betty), her parents, in-laws, and several nieces and a nephew.

The family thanks Dr. Brian Holmes and the staff at Memorial Hospital for their loving care of Elaine and the entire family. Cathy and Chris would like to offer special thanks to David and Jodi Walters for their devoted care and assistance given to both Rich and Elaine throughout the last years of their lives.

Connie DeWitt November 13, 1932 - February 2, 2024

Connie DeWitt, 91, of Gypsum Kansas, passed away on February 2nd, 2024 at her home. Connie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Connie was born on November 13, 1932, in Salina Kansas. She was the daughter of William Brittendall and Frances Harlan (Geneva Madden-Stepmother). She grew up with a brother and sister. Connie graduated from Washington High School in 1950. In 1951, she met Robert DeWitt and in that same year they were married. They raised four sons and 1 daughter and watched their family grow to include 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. They shared 72 years of marriage together.

Connie was an active member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing which quickly grew with her daughter, Linnie Gfeller, and they were able to build a side crafting business called, “Mom &amp; Me.” Connie also enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time with family and was the bookkeeper for their family business, DeWitt Plastering &amp; Drywall.

Connie is survived by her husband, Robert DeWitt; sons, Bobby DeWitt, Wesley DeWitt, Rolly DeWitt, and Darren (Jamie) DeWitt; daughter, Linnie (Ronnie) Gfeller, and her brother, Sam Brittendall. She was preceded in death by her parents, William, Frances and Geneva Brittendall; sister, Carol DeWitt; and daughter-in-law, Penny DeWitt.

Connie DeWitt’s legacy lives on through the many people that she touched. She will always be remembered for her willingness to help those in need, her generosity, wittiness and infectious sense of humor and will be deeply missed.

Connie's wishes were to be cremated and the family will have a private memorial service.

Earl R. Ahlstedt September 27, 1933 ~&nbsp;February 4, 2024

On Feb 4, 2024, Earl R. Ahlstedt joined his two ornery brothers Gordon and Robert and his parents Emery Ahlstedt and Hazel (Swedberg) Ahlstedt at the heavenly coffee table. Born September 27, 1933, Earl made his transition at 90 years old. His dear sister Eleanor Ostlind, of Lindsborg, is the sole survivor of his first family.


     Earl, or “Papa Earl” as he was affectionately known, was a large presence in the lives of so many of his family and friends. He was tall at 6’4”, which he commonly referred to as “average size,” but it was so much more than his height that made him loom large. 

He was known for his big, strong handshake – his gigantic hand just enveloped any hand that shook it, and he taught each of his kids the importance of looking someone in the eye and giving a firm handshake – as if all evidence of your character was embodied in that moment.


     His hands were his tools – provided his livelihood in his profession as carpenter for more than 50 years, a trade he learned as apprentice of, and then partner with, his father. He was clever and innovative and could do just about anything with those hands. And rumor has it, his hands often held a hot cup of coffee–one of 20-30 cups per day.


     Earl had a HUGE Heart! He valued service to his family, and community, and was the first to volunteer to help with local events and festivals, assist neighbors in need or oversee house projects for his kids. He appreciated the culture and traditions of the small Lindsborg community and embraced the commitment to give his time and talents where and when needed.


He was an active member over many years of the Folkdanslag (Swedish Dancers) and the Kiwanis Club. He served as a volunteer firefighter in his younger years, led the Pride Committee, and sang in the Messiah Chorus for nearly 50 years. He helped with many festivals, moving bleachers around, setting up sets for Broadway RFD (and singing in a few), and helping build floats for parades. His team's floats were always reflective of his and his teams’ cheeky personality – and funny.


     Earl was a long-time member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was proud of his Swedish heritage – both his ancestry and as a graduate of his beloved Bethany College (Swedes). He was part of Hyllningsfest Royalty as King for the 2015 Hyllningsfest. He proudly served his country in the US Army in active duty from 1955-1957 as a clerk typist. After returning from Germany he served as a reservist with his final rank of E6.


     Work was his currency and his family had many weekend projects at one of their homes to update plumbing or electrical, install flooring, tear down walls or paint. No task was too tough when Earl was on hand. He often said that our family could get more done by accident than most could do with a well-thought out plan. He wasn’t wrong. But it was never the work that was the most important thing. He valued the time together – learning, laughing and earning a sense of accomplishment.


     Earl had a grand, infectious smile and laugh. He worked hard, but he played hard too. He loved tennis and started the Tuesday Night Tennis (TNT) group that went on for many years. He loved golf and hosted 2-3 foursomes every year in the Ol Stuga Charity Tournament –which brought a group of guys in his family together annually for 20+ years to play golf and cards and work on a project together. Once invited, none would ever miss. He played bridge and gin and other card games, and he LOVED puzzles. He was quite the athlete, despite not competing a lot in his early years and he played the Lindsborg Affiliated tennis tournaments every summer with
his kids or brothers.


     But of all the things that Earl was involved in and proud of, there was nothing more important to him than his family. In 1959, he married Annamae Johnson. They were married for nearly 20 years. They had three children: Angie (Elmer Patterson), Andie (Kevin Fulton), and A.J. (Suzanne Vogel). He told anyone within earshot how proud he was of his kids and his 7 grandkids (Kendall and Addie Dunbar, Lucy, Sam and Elle Ahlstedt, and Aaron (Morgan) Fulton and Emma Fulton Guarino, and one great granddaughter Ellie Guarino. 

Extended family came from near and far every Hyllningsfest and Earl hosted everyone for lunch and reunion after the parade. His cousins were so special to him, as were his nieces and nephews–and each of them
had a special place in his heart. Every work project, every fishing trip to Tayor lake or golf or tennis outing was never about the activity or result for Earl – it was all about the relationships and time together with family and friends. He always had his priorities straight.
     We will miss his large physical presence in our lives day-to-day, but his legacy is larger than life and our fond memories of our time with Papa Earl will live on in our hearts forever.
     Visitation is scheduled for Friday Feb 9, 5-7;00 p.m. at Crick-Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg, KS. 
     Funeral Service is Saturday, Feb 10 at 1:00 at Messiah Lutheran Church,
followed by burial and reception at Salemsborg Cemetery/ Church.

Ralph Nelson November 18, 1942 ~ February 3, 2024

Ralph Nelson, 81, formerly of Salina, Kansas, passed away February 3, 2024. Ralph was born November 18, 1942, in Salina, to Marvin and Velma Nelson. He worked in truck part sales, over-the-road trucking, and owned his own trucking company for years.

Ralph is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Linda; his parents; and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Nelson. He is loved and remembered by his children, Kim (Todd) LeSage, Raytown, Missouri; Larry Nelson, Oak Grove, Missouri; and Wayne (Paula) Nelson, Platte City, Missouri; his sisters, Margaret (Ted) Kolling; and Jean (Ted) Walker; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ralph had many passions such as fishing, camping with Crossroads Camping Club, playing the guitar with a good friend, planting rosebushes in his yard, and Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts where he served in several roles. Ralph was known for always having Werther’s candies in his pocket to give to acquaintances and friendly faces.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.&nbsp; Burial will be held in Gypsum City Cemetery, Gypsum, Kansas immediately following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, Ralph and his family would be very appreciative of memorials to Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Gloria graduated from Aurora Catholic High School, Aurora, Kansas.

Gloria married Donald D. LeDuc on November 16, 1953, in Aurora, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on November 24, 1994.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a homemaker and was a wonderful mother always providing and taking care of her family.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, Kansas.

Gloria enjoyed reading, embroidering and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, a brother, Gearld “Pete” Breault; sister, Elaine Breault, three grandchildren, sister-in-law, Karen Breault, numerous other family members.

Survivors include: fiancé, Tina Brown of Topeka, KS; his mother, Betty Shelton of Cunningham, KS; siblings, Lana Wolfgang (Steve) of Cunninghams, KS, Kevin Shelton of Salina, KS, Robin Rumsey of Salina, KS, Chris Coleman (Jim) of Pratt, KS, Craig Shelton of Hutchinson, KS, and Karen Bailey (Brad) of Lehigh, KS; and numerous nieces &amp; nephews.

Rex J. Peck September 6, 1932 ~ February 1, 2024

Rex J. Peck, 91, of Salina, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, surrounded by his five daughters.

He was born on September 6th, 1932, to Elizabeth (Bulleigh) and Oscar Peck in Hunter, Oklahoma. Married to the love of his life, Jareta Peck, in Huntsville, AR on June 29th, 1953. Rex is now reunited with his maker and his beautiful wife of 70 years, Jareta, who passed just a few months earlier in October 2023.

Rex (aka Ajax) spent his career as an Over the Road driver for more than 37 years, with most of his time spent working for Graves Truck Line (ANR Truck line). He was a member of the million-mile club, driving more than one million miles while employed with Graves. After retiring in 1990, he continued his driving career as a bus driver for Southeast of Saline, OCCK and Salina Charter, which later sold to Village Tours.

Rex had a love of visiting with friends and family, he never knew a stranger. His most treasured reoccurring trip was the infamous Clarke Sanders Baseball trips, which he drove for more than 10 summers. He had a passion for golfing, especially with his brothers and his son-in-laws. Although he drove for a profession, he never got tired of road-tripping with his family for vacation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rex and Jareta made every attempt to attend as many activities as they could for their five daughters, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, as time and health allowed them to.

Last year, Rex became a resident of the Holiday Resort Health &amp; Rehab of Salina, as well as Interim Healthcare. On behalf of the family, a special thank you to both agencies for the kindness, loving care and friendship so freely given to our father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family also extends gratitude to the iHop team who gave him and Jareta so much love and joy over the years, they loved their iHop family!

He is survived by his daughters, Pam (Garry) Ring of Salina, KS, Debbie Monroe of Salina, KS, Julie (Matt) Griffiths of Solomon, KS, Lori (Erik) Hulse of Norman, OK, Marci Gawith of Salina, KS; grandchildren, Gayla (Lukas) Crane, Andrew (Shawna) Monroe, Scott (Jessica) Vinduska, Kyle (Melissa) Norlin, Randi Hulse, Nate (Katie) Hulse, Patric (Samantha) Mailau, Jenna Mailau, Kori (Dominic) Powell, Asi Mailau, Bradley Gawith, and Emilee Gawith; 19 great grandchildren; brother, Monty (Frances) Peck of Derby, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Lois Mae Elliott, 93, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024. She was born in Salina, Kansas on September 25, 1930 to Edgar and Bertha (Armstrong) Prosise. Her father, Edgar, passed away when she was young and her mother remarried Ben Johnson, who adopted her.

She graduated from Salina High School in 1948.

On October 15, 1950, Lois married Byron J. Elliott. To that union, were born Elaine Elliott and Galen Elliott. They were married 50 years when he passed away.

Lois was a homemaker, worked as a cook at Southeast of Saline, and worked at several different post offices. She liked gardening with Byron. She volunteered at the hospital and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, where she played bingo on Wednesday nights. She also liked to play pitch and bridge with her friends. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and reading. She was very proud of her 5 grandsons and enjoyed watching them in sports and going to their music programs. She enjoyed watching KU Basketball and the Kansas City Royals.

Survivors include her children, Elaine Rego (Ernie) and Galen Elliott (Bonnie); grandchildren, Jason Elliott, Brian Elliott, Warren Elliott (Robin), Edward Rego (Paige); great grandchildren, Theodore and Aurora Elliott, Briley, Jayston, Kaydence, Aiden, Liam, Kaylona, and Draven Rego; several step great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Bertha Johnson; her husband, Byron Elliott; sister, Marilyn Graves; and grandson, Eric Rego.

Before then Don was raised in Centropolis, Ks, where he grew up, attended Appanoose Grade school and went on to Graduate Appanoose High School in 1957.

Don became a member of the United States Army in 1960 to 1962 he was a Specialist 4th class. He was a Medic in the Army while he was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado. Don was in the National Guard Armory before and after the Army.

After leaving the Army he went back to his carpenter skills where he then met his wife of 56 years, 1 month, and 11 days, he married Letha Ellen Harmon Willford on June 16, 1967, in Miami, Ok.&nbsp; They had two children oldest daughter Carmen Lynn Willford Thornton, born April 28, 1969, and a son Dan Cole Willford, born October 24, 1971, both children still living. Don having three grandchildren Trevor (Willford) Morrison of Pomona the oldest of the three, Tye Cole Willford, and Marlie Jade Willford both of Ottawa, Ks. Don leaves a living younger brother Ronald Kay Willford and wife JoAnne Willford both of Belle Plaine, KS, his Uncle Jack Wray &amp; Aunt Avis Wray of Ottawa and many living cousins. Proceeded in death by his Father William Dan Willford &amp; Wife Pauline Ardelle Wray Willford, younger brother William Wayne Willford, Grandfather, Harvey Wray &amp; Grandmother Goldie Smith Wray. Great Grandfather Andrew Jackson Wray &amp; Great Grandmother Barbara Beckner Wray, &amp; Great Grandfather Wilson B Smith (Big B) &amp; Great Grandmother Clara Fager Smith.

Don owned Willford Construction Company most all of his life. He built homes, apartments, worked on churches all over the surrounding areas and other states. He went to work for Jack Cooper Transportation Company in the later 70’s where he drove the East Coast run for 7 years before leaving. Later he bought Overbrook Lumber Company Don and his family ran the company for 8 years before selling. Don and Letha worked their daughter Carmen in Georgia for Ace Hardware for years where they traveled and many exciting adventures. After coming off the road Don went back to some construction, odd jobs, and working on their rental properties.

In the 1970’s Don loved going to race with go-carts, his wife, daughter, brother, Ron, and wife JoAnne, where the two brothers won lots of trophies. They traveled to many tracks in Kansas and other states.

Don was very active in his community all his life. Early on his children were in 4-H, Don enjoyed speaking about his wife’s dogs that she raised and trained at local 4-H clubs. He once drove a bus full of 4-H club members to Tennessee. He then drove his kids’ horse club down to Oklahoma City to tour the Cowboy Hall of Fame, see Mr. Impressive and enjoy other horse experiences.

Don joined the McKinley Lodge #41 in Pomona on October 8, 1994; he was very active in the Masonic organization. He was also a member of the Ridgeway Lodge #62 in Overbrook, Ks, and Euclid Masonic Lodge #101, Lyndon, Ks, he attended many meetings in the Garnett Lodge, the Louisburg Lodge and many surrounding area lodges. Don was Deputy Director of the Grand Lodge, a Master Mason of his Lodge many times. &nbsp;Along with other members they raised money to send kids to band camp, scholarships, and for many years did the kids identification program in the surrounding schools. Don later started with the other Brother Mason’s selling food to raise money where they first started with exotic meat burgers and fries’ people would stand in line for ever to get those. Then they graduated to the funnel cake, and numerous items truck they have today where you will find them at all the local functions in the area.

Don and Letha loved to watch their daughter barrel race in the rodeo and show horses no matter what association it was. They would be in any state she was in. Don enjoyed going to Oklahoma and working with his son on housing projects and helping him with anything he needed.

Don really enjoyed hanging out with Lyle Hunt and visiting the Pomona Volunteer Fire Department to talk with friends.

Don loved his Wife, and children and he really enjoyed spending time with grandchildren Tye and Marlie. He enjoyed tinkering with projects with Tye, teaching him to read a ruler, do math, working outside on the food truck and mowing with him. Marlie loved to hang out with her Pa Pa playing on his computer and him telling her stories. Don will be missed dearly by Family and Friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, KS. Paul Dean McDaniels August 2, 1932 ~ February 1, 2024

Paul Dean McDaniels, 91, of Ottawa, KS died Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Baldwin Health and Rehab in Baldwin City, Kansas.

He was born August 2, 1932 in Olathe, Kansas the son of James Cree McDaniels Sr. and Elmira (Hermon) McDaniels.&nbsp; He graduated from Gardner High School with the class of 1950.&nbsp;

On December 30, 1955, Paul was united in marriage to Donna Lee Horne in Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp; They later divorced.&nbsp; On June 11, 1973, he was united in marriage to Donna Robinson in Miami, Oklahoma.&nbsp; They later divorced.&nbsp;

Paul served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 until 1992, fighting in the Korean War and Vietnam War attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer E7.&nbsp; After and during his military service he worked at SW Bell and AT&amp;T doing cable splicing from 1960 until 1992.&nbsp;

Paul was a part of many veteran organizations, including the FRA 161, V.F.W. out of Ottawa, KS, American Legion out of Olathe, KS, and Naval Enlisted Reserves Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elmira McDaniels; a son, Paul James McDaniels; and a sister, Doris McDaniels.

He is survived by a son, David W. McDaniels of Grain Valley, MO; a daughter, Debra Hensley of Roanoke, KS; three brothers, Fred McDaniels of Baldwin, KS, James Cree McDaniels Jr. of Baldwin, KS, and Charles McDaniels of Ottawa, KS; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Rebecca worked as an assembler for Superior Plastics Manufacturing.&nbsp; She enjoyed reading, going to the casino, and playing Wii golf and bowling.&nbsp; Most of all, she loved her grandbabies.

Norman R. Helmke 86 of Abilene passed away February 1, 2024. He was born October 28, 1937 in Pratt, Kansas, the son of Richard and Berniece (Haning) Helmke. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Kansas State University in Agricultural Economics. Norman served two years in the Army, serving from 1960-1962. On April 19, 1964 he was united in marriage to Cecelia Strauss. She preceded him in death January 16, 2021. Norman is survived by his daughter, Arlene Berven and husband David of Abilene. One son, Keith Helmke and wife Becky of Wellsville, Kansas. Three grandchildren: Rochelle Krieger, Cody Berven, and Jacob Berven. Five great-grandchildren: Dezeray, Brooklyn, Hudson, Raelynn and Oaklee. One brother, Robert Helmke and wife Susan of Pratt and Carol Bauck of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Funeral services for Norman will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene. Marilyn Douglass November 5, 1935 ~ February 1, 2024

Marilyn Douglass, age 88, died on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Sunset Nursing Home, in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born November 5, 1935, in Aurora, Nebraska, the daughter of Ezra and Leta (Zehr) Kremer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Marilyn accepted Jesus as her Savior as a child and delighted in learning about the Christian life and anticipated heaven with great joy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Marilyn attended the University of Nebraska, Kearney, and graduated from Sterling College where she met her husband, Jim of 58 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

One of her loves was teaching children in the elementary grades in Stromsburg, Nebraska, Hutchinson, Kansas and mostly in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;As a substitute teacher she was known as the “poetry substitute” which was her method of beginning each class. Her final years of teaching were as a Reading Specialist.&nbsp;&nbsp;As a ventriloquist she enjoyed her dummy, Georgie, performing for children and even with adults at times.

She enjoyed entertaining in their home, traveling to share Jesus in several states at Christian Women’s Clubs, teaching Sunday School, Bible Studies, ministering and fellowshipping at the Baptist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;After retirement Jim and Marilyn taught marriage classes, volunteered at Stonecroft Conference Center in Branson, and SonScape Retreat in Woodland Park, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;She participated in SasNak, U All Come, Christian Women’s Outreach, Community Concerts, Frank Carlson Library Board, and Cloud County Community College activities. She especially enjoyed CCCC women’s basketball, including hosting many international players.

Favorite memories include fishing trips to Colorado, trips to California and Minnesota to visit their children and grandchildren, touring Europe on their 40th wedding anniversary and celebrating her 50th&nbsp;anniversary with Jim, their kids, and grandkids at Snow Mountain Ranch in Colorado.

She is survived by her sons, Bradley Douglass (Keryn) of Mission Viejo, CA; Craig Douglass (Sonya) of Newton, KS; a daughter, Shelli Pearson (Mike), Rochester, MN; brothers, Dick Kremer (Judy) of Lynchburg, VA; Ron Kremer (Carol) of Central City, NE; five grandchildren, Matt Pearson (Nicole), Andrea Holm (Bryce), Nick Pearson, Kinsey Huntting (Corey), and Bryce Douglass; step grandsons, Ryan Stuchlik, Grant Stuchlik and Kyle Stuchlik; and great grandson, Noah Pearson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Jim, on August 22, 2018.

A Celebration of her life will be held at The Baptist Church in Concordia, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, with the family greeting friends beginning at 9:30. Pastors Tim Miller and Al Paredes will be&nbsp;&nbsp;officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Inurnment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
