On May 2, 1993 a son was born to Mandi Nicole Seim. Gabriel Christian was the light of her life and she was everything to him for a short 3 years. When his mom died, our family was blessed with Gabe for 25 more years. Then on July 21, 2021 Mandi got her son back!

We will honor Gabe with a celebration of life on July 23rd, 2022 at the Assaria Community Center, 315 E Main, Assaria, KS at 4pm.

Shayne C. Greenman, age 66 of Kalispell, MT passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 15, 2021 surrounded by family and love. She is survived by her husband Dr. Peter Greenman, mother Jean Clark, children Beecher Greenman (Irina), Jennifer MacDonald (Ross), and Julia Angibeau (Philippe), and grandchildren Lena, Ian, Emma, Lily, and Declan.

Shayne was born on February 17, 1954 in Kansas City, MO. She was a devoted daughter to Ron and Jean Clark and sister to Michael. As the family moved with the Corps of Engineers, she attended school in Missouri, Kansas, Oregon, and Montana and graduated from Libby High School in 1972. She attended Flathead Valley Community College, Wenatchee Valley Community College, and SUNY Buffalo. She worked for the U.S. Forest Service on the Yaak and in Troy, MT.

Shayne married Peter Greenman on July 8, 1978 in Chelan, WA. They spent their married life in Buffalo, NY; Olney, MD; Lacey, WA; and Fairfax Station, VA before moving to Kalispell, MT in 2007.

Shayne dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family and faith, raising her three children and five grandchildren with love, intelligence, and strength. She felt that home was where the family was and was able to quickly re-establish our home wherever the U.S. Army and other professional moves took us. 

She was the director of the Junior Great Books reading enrichment program at Greenwood Elementary in Olney, Maryland and also volunteered enthusiastically throughout the years for swim teams, school projects and events. A favorite family memory is her time spent as a guest chef at HEC 2003 at the Cornell Hotel School. She was an active member in her congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Fairfax, VA and Kalispell, MT. She was a valued career and relationship counselor and wedding planner for the family.&nbsp;

She had a magnetic personality, a strong sense of conviction, and an infectious laugh. She had a magic touch that made everything she did special. She was an avid reader, particularly of history. She also loved movies of all types. Other interests included boating on the Chesapeake Bay and Flathead Lake, bird watching, traveling, event planning, swing dancing, sewing, and snowboarding. She collected small antiques and friends everywhere she went. 

People of all ages were drawn to her by her kindness, grace, easygoing sense of humor, and commonsense wisdom. Her courage and grace throughout her long battle with breast cancer was an inspiration to friends, family, and everyone she met along the way.&nbsp;

HUTCHINSON - Doris Ann Miller, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2022, surrounded by family at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born July 18, 1944, in Dearborn, Michigan to Hiram Ford and Doris Ann (Stobbe) Swabby.

She graduated high school from Windom, Kansas and attended Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

She united in marriage with P. Russell Miller on March 5, 1966. They lived in Salina, Kansas for seven years where she worked at Dillon Optical and then Westinghouse Warehouse. She was blessed to have two children, Debra Ann and David Russell.&nbsp;

In 1974, they moved to a country farm north of Little River, Kansas where she became a homemaker and once her children were in high school and junior high, she worked as a prep cook in several local cafes and later at a manufacturing company where she was injured on the job. This accident started the decline in health and mobility for her.&nbsp;

Doris and Russell had moved to Hutchinson, Kansas for her last five years.

Doris's hobbies included gardening, canning, sewing, raising chickens, and cooking. Doris enjoyed traveling to New York, Michigan, Missouri, Arizona, South Dakota and Montana with friends and family. Her pets, no matter the size, were her pride and joy; it did not matter if they were calves, dogs or cats. Doris enjoyed springtime the most, because she could pick her lilacs and peonies. She loved the smells.

Preceding her in death are her mother Doris; father Ford; brother Kenneth; and stepmother Wilma.

Survivors include her husband, Russell, of the home; two children, Debra and Tim Skalinder of Hutchinson, KS and David Miller and Brenda Barber of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Dakota and Rebecca Skalinder, Alie and Andrew Durst, and Josie Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Kenna, Bryson and Delani.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2022, at Excelsior Cemetery, Marquette, KS.&nbsp; The casket will be open from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the cemetery.

She married her high school sweetheart, Scott Fenner, on May 26th, 1974 (48 years). Together they have three children, Jennifer Fenner, Christina McDaniel and Daniel Fenner.

Vickie enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved attending all of their numerous activities, which included cheer competitions, orchestra concerts, shooting sports, softball games and gymnastics/ninja classes. Vickie enjoyed serving in her home town of Conway, Arkansas as well as her childhood home of Randall, Kansas. She had many talents she used in a variety of ways in her life. Her main talent was touching people’s lives and she never met a stranger in her lifetime. Those strangers would become friends and friends would become family to her. Her legacy was to love and she loved everyone around her. Vickie was also deeply loved by her family and friends.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Nevada Vetter.

Danny’s life began on November 22, 1949, in Newton. He was the son of Don and Betty R. (Thomas) Whiteside. 

Danny was a 1967 graduate of Remington High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war. Danny was united in marriage to the former Jo Brenner on July 7, 1975, in Marion. He worked for over 30 years as a rural mail carrier. 

Dan was friendly and outgoing, which is why so many friends enjoyed casual time with him in his garage. He was a jokester and loved pulling pranks. Danny enjoyed coyote and bird hunting as well. He was very good at spoiling his grandchildren and he loved spending time with all of his family. 

Danny is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Whiteside of Potwin; his mother Betty R. Whiteside of Potwin; children Brandi (Chris Smith) Garrison of El Dorado, Chris (Mary) Oberst of Potwin and Scott Oberst of Potwin; grandchildren Devan (Mallory) Poffinbarger, Caden Garrison, Jaxon Oberst, Brody Oberst, and Gracee Oberst. 

Danny passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at his home. 

He is preceded in death by his father Don. 

Danny’s family will gather with friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 6, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Potwin Christian Church. Danny will be laid to rest in McGill Cemetery, Potwin in a private family service.

He was the son of Don and Betty R. (Thomas) Whiteside. Danny was a 1967 graduate of Remington High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war. Danny was united in marriage to the former Jo Brenner on July 7, 1975, in Marion. He worked for over 30 years as a rural mail carrier. Dan was friendly and outgoing, which is why so many friends enjoyed casual time with him in his garage. He was a jokester and loved pulling pranks. Danny enjoyed coyote and bird hunting as well. He was very good at spoiling his grandchildren and he loved spending time with all of his family. Danny is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Whiteside of Potwin; his mother Betty R. Whiteside of Potwin; children Brandi (Chris Smith) Garrison of El Dorado, Chris (Mary) Oberst of Potwin and Scott Oberst of Potwin; grandchildren Devan (Mallory) Poffinbarger, Caden Garrison, Jaxon Oberst, Brody Oberst, and Gracee Oberst. Danny passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at his home. He is preceded in death by his father Don. Danny’s family will gather with friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater. Lucille Elizabeth (Scheer) Peters, 91, Jewell, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 3, 2022. Lucille was born on April 18, 1931 to Peter J. and Emma Scheer. She married Nicholas A. Peters on April 22, 1953 and to this union they were blessed with 11 children.

She grew up on the farm in Hunter, KS helping with much of the farming and chores. she&nbsp;especially loved riding her horse "Babe" when she was young. She enjoyed quilting and making&nbsp;baby blankets for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She loved playing the guitar,&nbsp;accordion, "a little piano," and singing whenever asked. She especially loved singing with her&nbsp;daughters and grandkids at nursing homes, fairs, and a very special place she loved to sing at&nbsp;was the Blue Hill Church in Hunter, KS on Memorial Day. She loved taking care of her flowers and&nbsp;plants along with her chickens and dogs. She cared for them all right up until she walked into God's glory.

She was a loving wife,&nbsp;mother, and grandmother. Her kids, grandkids, and&nbsp;great-grandkids were a treasure to her heart. She was loved so dearly and will be greatly&nbsp;missed by all who knew her. We find hope in knowing that her "chores were done" and she is&nbsp;now with Jesus! Isn't that what really matters for all of us? We will see her again when our&nbsp;chores are through. &nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her husband Nicholas Peters, brothers (Greg, Minolph, John, Walt), sisters (Della Schaffer, Margaret), daughters-in-law (Beckie Peters, Jennifer Peters), and grandchildren (Peggy Peters, Noah Smith).

Visitation will be at St. John’s Catholic Church,&nbsp;Wednesday, July 6 from 6-7 p.m. with a vigil/rosary&nbsp;service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7 at St. John’s Catholic Church. Interment to follow at St. John’s Cemetery.

Donna Lee Anderson, age 88, of Abilene went to be with the Lord on July 2nd, 2022. She was the daughter of Leslie Ralph Loader and Alma Nellie (Knisley) Loader.

Donna was born south of Enterprise on August 15th, 1933. She lived there until she was four years old. They then moved south of Chapman where she attended school until 4th grade. The family then moved to the Buckeye Community. She attended the Jeffcoat and Oak Creek one-room country schoolhouse until 8th grade. Donna then rode the bus to Chapman High School. During this time she met the love of her life, Leo Anderson. Donna graduated in 1951. 

Donna accepted the Lord in High School while attending church camp. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday school and Junior Church.

After graduating, she was employed at the United Utilities Telephone Company in Abilene for 10 years. In 1953, Donna married Leo Anderson on August 23rd and they made their home in Abilene.

In 1963, she opened up her home for childcare and was one of the first sitters to be licensed in Abilene. Donna cared for over 80 children including second generations and enjoyed each one as well as her own. The children spent their days playing in the backyard, going for walks, reading, painting, and drawing pictures, going on short field trips and playing games. She taught them that they all were special and that God created and loved each one of them. In 2000, she received an award for 35 years in childcare and continued sitting until 2014 at the age of 80 years old.

In her free time she enjoyed being with her family, gardening, being with friends, reading and writing poetry, and listening to spiritual music.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Leo in April 2009, as well as her parents, three brothers - Weldon, Lyle, and Linn, as well as her two sisters - Lila and Doris.

She is survived by her two children- Nell Jean Thacker and husband Chester of Rural Chapman, and her son Clifford and wife Darlene of rural Abilene. Donna had three grandchildren- Justin, Marci, and Josh. She also had five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7th 2022 at Danner Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cheeven (Henry) Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Danner Funeral home. Family suggests memorials be given to St. Jude’s Hospital or Brainard Indian School. William F. “Bill” Grosser III, 92, of Salina, KS passed away on January 23, 2022, at Salina Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp;Bill was born on July 29, 1929, in Salina, the son of William F. Jr and Virginia (Deal) Grosser.&nbsp; On July 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Wanda (Everhart) Lay, a widow with three young boys.&nbsp;

Bill attended Salina public schools, graduating from high school in 1947.&nbsp; He attended KU, where he joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.&nbsp; Bill worked for Lee Hardware before enlisting in the US Army in 1951, during the Korean War.&nbsp; He served in the Army Audit Agency until 1953 and transferred to the army reserves until his honorable discharge in 1958.

Returning to Salina, Bill began his accounting career with Kennedy and Coe and earned his CPA license.&nbsp; He worked for the grain company of Simpson, Laybourn, Miller and Stark, later becoming the financial manager for John Simpson.&nbsp; He completed his career as an accountant for Brown Welding.&nbsp; He adopted Wanda’s three boys and they had a daughter to complete their family.&nbsp; Bill belonged to several civic organizations and was very active in the Episcopal church serving in many capacities, including as a licensed lay reader.&nbsp; Bill and Wanda enjoyed traveling, being with family and researching their genealogy.&nbsp; He is a certified member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants.&nbsp; Bill enjoyed playing golf with the Senior Men’s league at Salina Muni and attending his morning coffee group.&nbsp; He and Wanda built a new home on Millview Rd. and lived there for over 40 years before moving to Eaglecrest and eventually to Salina Presbyterian Manor in 2015.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of 65 years; four children, Keith Lay (Jeanne), of Albuquerque, NM; Dr. Randy Grosser (Linda), of Indianapolis, IN; Craig Grosser (Susan), of Salina, KS; and Lori Rhoden, of Niles, KS; 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents William F. Jr and Virginia Grosser; his brother Deal Grosser; and two grandchildren, Jess Grosser and Robyn Grosser.&nbsp;

Cremation was chosen and services will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

SALINA -&nbsp;Wanda Lee (Everhart) Grosser, 92, passed away on February 21, 2022 at Salina Presbyterian Manor.

Born on September 1, 1926, at her parent’s farm south of Gypsum, KS, Wanda was the daughter of Lloyd and Elsie (Rutz) Everhart.&nbsp; The youngest of six siblings, Wanda had four brothers and one sister.&nbsp; 

She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Lay, also of Gypsum, and they had three sons.&nbsp; Jack was killed in the Korean conflict in 1952, leaving Wanda a widow with three young boys ages three, two, and three&nbsp; months.&nbsp; On July 21, 1956, she married William F. Grosser III (Bill) and they made their home in Salina.&nbsp; She and Bill welcomed a daughter in 1957.

Wanda attended Gypsum public schools, graduating from high school in 1947.&nbsp; She briefly attended Marymount College, before marrying and becoming a mother.&nbsp; She loved running a household and taking care of her family.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

With her children grown, Wanda satisfied the need to serve others by working as a hostess and secretary at the Salina Senior Center.&nbsp; She shared her talents until her retirement in her late 60s.&nbsp; 

She had a passion for genealogy, spending many years researching and publishing her family’s ancestry.&nbsp; She and Bill traveled the area searching for gravestones and municipal records to verify their family tree.&nbsp;&nbsp; Wanda had many relatives in the area; she loved planning and hosting family events, including the annual Everhart family reunion that started in the 1970s and continues to this day.&nbsp; Wanda was a faithful Christian, attending and volunteering in the Episcopal Church all of her adult life. &nbsp;

Wanda and Bill built a new home on Millview Rd. in 1965.&nbsp; They lived there for over 45 years before moving to Eaglecrest and eventually to Salina Presbyterian Manor in 2015. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) F. Grosser III, parents Lloyd and Elsie Everhart, brothers Verlin Everhart, Lyal Everhart, Wendall Everhart and Merl Everhart, sister Eileen Hathaway, two grandchildren, Jess Grosser and Robyn Grosser, and her first husband Jack E. Lay.

He was a Navy veteran and served for four years during the Korean Conflict.&nbsp; He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and VFW Post #1432.

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Arlene.

John Paul Gunder&nbsp;passed away in his home, May 18, 2022.&nbsp; In his own words, leaving his partner of 32 years, Darlene Gebhardt, who “made his life full of love, laughter and comfort.”&nbsp; He was born September 16, 1930, to Clarence and Goldie (Harman) Gunder, in Gibsonburg, Ohio. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, James Addison Gunder, Violet Rose (Gunder) Long and Iva Lena (Gunder) Anderson.

In 1949, John married Ruby Clark (deceased). They had three children, Margaret Ann ‘Micky’ (Gunder) Ovitt, Paula Joan (Gunder) Dennie and Juanita (Gunder) Spaulding.

From his marriage to Donna Mitchell Gagnon (deceased) in 1971, came his children Janice Faye Gunder, and Russel David Gunder.

Through his partnership with his best friend Darlene Gebhardt, he gained his “bonus children” James L. Gebhardt, Michael W. Gebhardt and Dianna L. Gebhardt.

John was a great supporter of his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved them dearly, and they loved him back.&nbsp; He always had a funny word, a kind word, or a stern word to offer them when it was necessary.

John grew up on a farm in Wood County, Ohio.&nbsp; In 1947, at age 17, he joined the Army National Guard and was discharged in 1950. In 1951, he took an oath and become a member of the Ohio State Protective Association, Badge No. 42.&nbsp; He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1956 and retired in 1976 as E-7 Staff Sergeant. He did three tours in Germany and was in Viet Nam 1968-1969. He received many decorations including the Bronze Star, awarded for meritorious service or acts of valor while serving in combat operations. He also received the Purple Heart medal along with various others. He was very proud of his military service but was not boastful.

In 1980 John was a census information gatherer. He enjoyed meeting so many people and hearing their stories. John never knew a stranger.

From 1979-1991, he was the owner and operator of the Blue Lounge in Salina, KS.&nbsp; It’s here that he made many friends and had many stories to tell. &nbsp;

John lived a full life. He took motorcycle trips and liked to travel and fish. He “had been on big boats, small boats, airplanes big and little, and helicopters not to mention all the other good equipment the military had, like the smooth-riding tanks and trucks that never missed a hole in the road.”

His passions were his family, genealogy, and history. He was a collector of books and an avid reader. He gardened and cooked and loved to feed people. He had a great sense of humor and was a bit of a prankster.&nbsp; He enjoyed his coffee chats in the morning. He enjoyed the banter and felt it kept his mind sharp.&nbsp; He believed hard work and exercise kept his body going. He loved walking twice a day with his favorite pups. He liked the visits he had with his neighbors along the way.&nbsp; He was respectful and honest, and always had a smile on his face. He was non-judgmental and kind to everyone. He wanted to know your story, and if you were lucky enough, he would share one of his.

He was John, Honey, Dad, Grampa, Gramps, Uncle, Brother, and Best Friend to us. and at age 91, he leaves us too soon.

Janice Louise Fief, age 92, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Eaglecrest Retirement Community in Salina, KS.&nbsp; Janice was born on July 31, 1929, in Esbon, Kansas, the daughter of Martin and Edith (Pittsenbarger) Johanek.&nbsp;

She grew up on the family farm and attended Jewell County Public Schools graduating in 1947.&nbsp; While in high school she participated in glee club, class plays, the annual staff, and was a cheerleader.&nbsp; 

After graduating Janice attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Concordia completing her degree in 1950.&nbsp; Her nurse's training encompassed Marymount in Salina, as well as Kansas City and Wichita.&nbsp; 

As a registered nurse she practiced in several states including Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, and California.&nbsp; At an early point in her career, she was the supervisor at the Smith County Hospital in Smith Center, KS and she concluded her career as the director of nursing at the Nicol Home in Glasco. KS.&nbsp; Janice served in this capacity in Glasco for 19 years where she provided excellent care while entertaining the residents with her singing and card playing.&nbsp; Choosing a nursing career was a perfect fit for Janice.&nbsp; It allowed her the opportunity to travel and be independent but most importantly it gave her the avenue to care for others.&nbsp; She loved helping people and always brought a smile to those she worked with.&nbsp;

On May 13, 1961, Janice was united in marriage to Al Fief at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Esbon, Kansas.&nbsp; The couple lived at the Natural Gas Pipeline housing area before moving to their farm near Glasco in 1965.&nbsp; The couple raised their three children on the farm and enjoyed being involved in all of their children’s activities.&nbsp; They remained on the farm until Al’s passing in 1987 with Janice moving into Glasco shortly thereafter.&nbsp; 

Janice remarried in 1993 to Harold Morell in Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; Harold and Janice resided in Glasco before moving to Eaglecrest Retirement Community in Salina, where Harold later passed.&nbsp; 

Janice was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasco where she participated in the church choir, was sacristan and Eucharistic Minister as well as brought communion to the homebound.&nbsp; She loved people and never met a stranger.&nbsp; She had a passion for dancing and was an avid card player, especially enjoying Pitch and later Rummikub and she was quick to tell you the score when she won.&nbsp;

 Through all the years the most important thing for Janice was her family.&nbsp; She loved her brothers and sisters and her husband, children, and grandchildren.&nbsp; She treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. &nbsp;

Janice was preceded in death by her five brothers - Glen, Jay, Elden, Ivan, and Kenneth Johanek; sister Nila Mae Charbonneau and daughter-in-law Gayla Fief.

Janice is survived by two siblings, twin sisters Thelma Beam (Johnny) of Esbon, and Velma Gouldie (Jim) of Mankato.&nbsp; Janice is also survived by her three children – Larry Fief (Sheila) of Salina, Annette Lounds (Norman) of Winfield, and Gregory Fief (Angela) of Manhattan.&nbsp; She has seven grandchildren, Jordan Veenendaal (Bradley) of Salina, Zachary Fief of Emporia, Joshua Fief of Salina, Megan Lounds of Olathe, Bethany Andrew (Kyle) of Olathe, Nicholas Fief of Akron, OH, and Madison Fief of Manhattan.&nbsp; Janice also has two great-grandsons, Deacon and Henley Andrew of Olathe. &nbsp;

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Glasco. Visitation will be prior to the service from 8:30 to 10:30 and a Rosary will be said at 10:30, all at the church. &nbsp;

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the St. Mary Church in Glasco and may be sent in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Charlotte Gertrude Wilhelmina (Kress) Settle, 92, of Salina, passed away July 1, 2022. She was born in Cologne, Germany August 31, 1929 to Eugene and Cacilia Kress. Charlotte met Lester during WWll in Sinsheim, Germany while he was serving in the U.S. Army. They were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Oakley, KS, August 5, 1947 and were married 71 years. They farmed and ranched near Winona, KS until 1999 and retired in Salina, KS.

While living in Winona, Charlotte worked at the school, drove a school bus, sold World Book encyclopedias, and worked for SRS. After moving to Salina, she worked at the local art gallery and was a greeter for Conklin Cars. She was active in the German Club and St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. She had a compassionate conviction for the lives of unborn children and always had a strong interest in politics.

Although Charlotte grew up in the large city of Cologne,Germany, at age 17 she learned how to help on the farm but always preferred to have a fence between her and the farm animals. She tamed raccoons, dressed hundreds of chickens, canned foods, delivered milk, cream, and eggs, prepared meals for harvest crews, and nary a weed dare grow in her luscious green yard. Charlotte loved working in her home, visiting with neighbors and friends, square dancing, having card parties and entertaining. New teachers to the community always found a welcome meal, and foreign college students always found a home full of hospitality during holidays. Most of all, she enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and making the farm a fun place to visit.

Always an avid reader, Charlotte encouraged her children to read, work hard, excel in whatever they did, and make the most of opportunities. She enjoyed writing and wrote many poems and diaries throughout her life. She loved music, especially classical and German. She found great joy in playing her accordion and was happy to entertain during the German Club meetings and even at her 90th birthday celebration. Her favorite food was chocolate, especially chocolates directly from Germany. Her favorite song was Enjoy Yourself, It’s Later Than You Think.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Lester. 

Survivors include her six children: Irene (Doug) Johnson of Dallas, TX, Frank (Peggy) Settle of Overland Park, Gloria (Ralph) Duffey of Salina, Harold (Rhonda) Settle of Great Bend, Roger (Theresa) Settle of Dodge City, and Janet (Patrick) Gleason of Meade;19 grandchildren: Kurt (Rae) Johnson, Adele (Uli) Woerz, Sr. Isabel (Society of Mary), Michael (Kristy) Johnson, Kipp Johnson, Robert Johnson; Craig (Blythe) Settle, Stephanie (Shawn) Turner, Kim (Nick) Bambeck; Patricia Duffey, David (Kaori) Duffey, Connie Duffey; Jason (Lundy) Settle, Chad Settle; Mary (Adam) Behlke; Adam (Liz) Gleason, Michaela (Hito) Santacruz, Aaron (Miranda) Gleason, and Monica Gleason; 29 great-grandchildren: Kressa and Max Johnson; Edward, Helena, Frederick, and Henry Woerz; Felix and Vela Johnson; Luke Johnson; Colin, Cayley, Camden, and Kinsley Settle; Austin, Ashlyn, Gabrielle, Lucas, and Frank Turner; Casey, Thomas, Caroline, and Riley Bambick; Michelle and William Duffey; Blake Kirkman, Sadie Settle; Aidan and Emma Gleason; and Isaiah Gleason.

The family is grateful to Charlotte’s neighbors and friends, especially Susan and Earl Fry, Tony and Allison Harding, Carl and Gloria Hanson, Lou Melgren, and Grace Shields. Also, to the many St. Mary parishioners who helped honor her wishes to have frequent visitors while remaining in her home as long as possible, especially John and Linda Ourida, Raymond and Julie Bilson, and Vera Roach.

There will be a rosary at 9 a.m. on Wednesday July 6th at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina, KS, with Mass at 10, followed by a luncheon in the parish hall. Burial service will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.

Jody Ray Owens, 55, Salina, KS passed away unexpectedly at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 28, 2022.

Jody was born May 23,1967 in Tulsa, OK.&nbsp; He was adopted at an early age, along with his two siblings, by Leon and Betty Owens.

Jody spent his early years in Washington state and then his family moved to Blythe, California.&nbsp; Jody graduated from Palo Verde High School in the Class of 1985.&nbsp; Jody attended a local college in Blythe for one year and then entered the workforce.

After his college stint, Jody lived in numerous states along the west coast and in the Midwest.&nbsp;

 Jody was very skilled in a lot of areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, construction and was a very good salesman. Jody truly loved people of all ages.&nbsp; He did not know a stranger, and this made him a good salesman.&nbsp; His most recent position was as a Flooring Specialist at Lowe’s Home Improvement, Salina.&nbsp; He left his position in 2010 when his health issues prevented him from continuing in the workforce. &nbsp;

Jody fathered two children and was very proud of them.&nbsp; Joshua was born in 1992 and Wesley was born in 2003. &nbsp;

Jody met his current wife, Angela Allison in 2004.&nbsp; Jody married Angela on July 31, 2005 at the Wesleyan church in Junction City where they made their home.&nbsp; In 2006, Jody took his position at Lowe’s so they moved to Salina as Angela had been employed at CAPS in Salina since 2001.&nbsp; Shortly after the move to Salina, Wesley came to live with Jody and Angela. &nbsp;

Jody was a family man and passionate about fishing, hunting, the outdoors and animals.&nbsp; Recently, Jody acquired a small travel trailer camper which he dearly loved to take camping to his favorite fishing spots.&nbsp; During COVID, Wesley and Jody went seeking a dog.&nbsp; Auggie was adopted from the Salina Animal Shelter and was a loyal companion for Jody.&nbsp; Auggie is part of the family and inseparable from Jody.&nbsp; Jody was most happy camping, fishing and spending time with his family.&nbsp; Also, he really enjoyed sharing his passions with others, young and old in hopes that they would fall in love with the sport as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Jody was preceded in death by his father, Leon Owens, his mother Betty Owens, his maternal grandmother, his sister Marika and brother Thomas, and two nephews, Lakota and Chard. &nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Angela, and son Wesley of the home, son Josh and wife Crystal, grandson, Peyton and grandaughter, Elizabeth of Cabot, Arkansas.&nbsp; Additionally, Jody is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that were very special to Jody.

Abiding by Jody’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will not be a funeral.&nbsp; A private family graveside service will take place at a future date. &nbsp;

He served in the United States Army from 1950-1954, in the Korean War and received a Silver Star. Murray retired from Johns Manville Manufacturing. He also worked for Woolco, Warta Buick, and owned The Bouquet Shoppe in Lindsborg, Kansas. Survivors include his daughter Glenda Bates (Robert "Hankarrera), of Brighton, Colorado; son Jason Bates of Salina, Kansas; grandchildren Sarah Clark, Jordan Bates, Blaise Albers, Saralynn Schafer, Faith Bates; grea-grandchildren, Aspen Clark, Riley Clark, Kai Clark; and stepsister Lori Murphy Pollick. He is preceded in death by his parents Ruth Bates and Doug and Juanita Bates; daughter Shelly Bates; brothers James Bates, Donald Bates, Douglas Allen Bates; and sister Judy Bates.
