Wade's life began on November 13, 1960, in Kingman, KS.&nbsp; He was the son of Carl Stickley and Betty (Wolfe) Stickley.&nbsp; 

Wade was united in marriage to Marty Toland on August 1, 2016, in Tulsa, OK, after many years together.&nbsp; 

He had a love for animals both large and small. Wade had a lively sense of humor and loved the outdoors and rural living.&nbsp; 

He is survived by his husband Marty Toland of Marion, father Carl&nbsp; (Karen) Stickley, son Jeremey (Debra) Gillen, sister Carla Morris, stepbrothers Ron (Bonnie) and Eric (Jerilyn) Chronister, and stepsister Lisa (Randy) Chronister.&nbsp; 

Wade passed away July 4, 2022, in Marion.&nbsp; 

He is preceded in death by his mother Betty and stepbrother Doug (Glenda) Chronister.&nbsp; 

There will be a private family celebration at a later date.&nbsp; Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.&nbsp;

Sherry Jo Novotny was born May 30, 1952 in Abilene, the daughter of Kenneth and Muriel “Butch” (George) Cain. She graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1971. Sherry was united in marriage to Stuart Novotny on August 6, 1971 in Abilene.

Sherry was always there for her family no matter what. She loved them all fiercely, and would do anything for them, especially her grandbabies. She had the most contagious laugh and knew how to make anyone smile. Sherry loved watching basketball and football. One of her favorite things to do was spend time with her grandbabies, along with watching her grea-granddaughter dance. She passed away on July 4, 2022 at her home near Solomon.

 She is survived by her loving husband Stuart of the home, daughters Shannon Henry (TC Howard) Abilene, Kansas; Shelly Vincent (Jesse) Galva, Kansas; son Shane Novotny Solomon, Kansas; sisters Judy Gable (Pete) of Lawton, Oklahoma; Kandi Carter (Mark) of La Center, Kentucky a brother Kenny Cain (Brenda) of Abilene, Kansas; grandchildren Hayley Martin (Austin), Halli Henry (Andrew Schwarting), Harleigh Henry, Jaedyn Rangel, Jordyn Vincent, Trey Vincent, Jett Vincent, three great-grandchildren Olivia Martin, Troy Martin, and Harper Martin, nephews Will Gable, Kirk Gable (Debbie) and Bob Gable (Cynthia). 

She was preceded in death by her brother Doug Cain, son-in-law John Henry, Jr., and her parents. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 16th at 5:00 p.m. at 2291 Fair Road Abilene, Kansas.

<a href="https://www.chaputbuoy.com/obituary/melvin-bud-kennedy"></a>Melvin “Bud” Dean Kennedy, 93, entered into rest on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on September 13, 1928, in Concordia, Kansas to Jesse and Marie (Parker) Kennedy.

Melvin grew up in the Cloud County community.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 1946 graduate of Concordia High School, Concordia, Kansas.

Melvin was married to Jeannette E. Lambert on August 26, 1948, in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;To this union two daughters were born, Susan and Nancy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeannette preceded him in death on February 7, 2000.&nbsp;

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, KS.

Melvin was a woodcrafter a master cabinet maker.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and dancing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Many people will remember his editorials in the newspaper.

He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Kennedy, Concordia, KS; Nancy McCormick, Colorado Springs, CO; a granddaughter, Melanie Whittenburg (Chris) and their son Warren of Edmond, OK.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette, his twin sisterMildred, and his older sister June, as well as his parents.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.

Marlin "Pete" “Bill” Verlyn Peterson, 80, of Clay Center, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the Clay County Medical Center surrounded by family.&nbsp; He was born on July 27, 1941, the son of Pete and Edith (Graves) Peterson in Clay Center.&nbsp;

Pete grew up in the Clifton area and attended the Pleasant Peak School.&nbsp; He graduated from Clifton High School in 1959.&nbsp; 

He joined the U.S. Army and served for three years and was a proud veteran.&nbsp; Pete was a loyal and dedicated employee at Hutchinson/Mayrath for over 42 years as the shipping clerk.

He married Brenda Trahan at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Miltonvale, Kansas on September 16, 1972.&nbsp; To this union a daughter was born, Tamara Kay.&nbsp; They made their home in or near Clay Center for almost 50 years.

Pete had a prestigious collection of Native American artifacts; all were personal finds in Clay and Washington counties.&nbsp; He won several awards from the Kansas Archeological Society over the years for his personal find collections.&nbsp; He is listed and pictured in several editions of "Who's Who In Indian Artifacts."

Pete was also a devoted and serious KU basketball fan and even got to meet with Coach Bill Self.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Delmer, LaVerne and Glemo and a sister, Marcine Johnson.

Survivors include his wife Brenda Peterson; daughter Tamara Wallace; granddaughters Jaycee Aikman, Addie Wallace and Molly Wallace; great-grandson Hunter Lee Aikman and many nieces and nephews

Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas.

Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.

DWICHITA- Delores Ann Funk, 76, passed away July 3, 2022 at Kidron Bethel in North Newton.

Delores was born September 24, 1945, in Hutchinson, KS to Otto P. and Linda (Martens) Schmidt and was the youngest of four siblings. She grew up on a farm in Buhler, KS and enjoyed helping with harvest and family fellowship. Those early years on the farm cultivated the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5) in her and instilled her value of family and faith. She lived by her faith and was directed by scripture. In 1961, she was baptized and joined Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church.

Delores met the love of her life, Gordon Funk, in 1962, at a church retreat at Horn Creek Ranch, CO. Her smile captured his heart. From that day on, they have been together. 

Delores graduated from Buhler High School and Bethel College in North Newton, KS with a degree in finance/accounting. 

On August 16, 1966, she married Gordon Funk at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church.&nbsp;Their life journey began when Delores and Gordon volunteered through Mennonite Central Committee and served at Wiltwyck School for Boys in Westchester Co., NY from 1968-1970. They became a family with the birth of their first daughter, Jenel. They moved back to Wichita, KS to raise their family, which included their son, Jonathan, and youngest daughter, Melisa. They have lived in Kansas since 1970, moving between Hesston and Wichita.

Delores balanced her career between accounting/finance, volunteer work, and homemaking. She provided bookkeeping services for various small businesses and, later in life, worked for AG Edwards (Wells Fargo/Baird Investments). 

She was a youth director at Loraine Avenue Mennonite Church and participated in women’s Bible studies, served as a school board member of Hesston USD 460, worked for Hesston College Admissions and Student Life, volunteered on the Bethel College Alumni Association, and the Mennonite Central Committee Feeding of the Multitude. She always found time to volunteer in church and community activities throughout her life.

Regardless of her work, family came first. She consistently opened her home and helped with family events and school activities. The love that she invested in her children intensified with her seven grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her everything and Grandma Delores was everything to them! In true nature, she redirected this praise to the Lord (Psalms 121:1-8). The lyrics from “Trust and Obey” will continue as a family tradition for generations. To complement her belief in the Divine, every year, Delores would give an angel ornament to her children/grandchildren accompanied by a uniquely selected Bible verse for each child. To her, angels were a symbol of faith and strength. Delores exemplified patience, selfless compassion and was known for her kindness. Her blessed smile created special moments and memories in life that will always be in our hearts — today and forevermore.

 Survivors include husband Gordon Funk of Wichita; son Jonathan (Dianna) Funk of Hesston; daughters Jenel (Randy) Edwards of Wichita, Melisa (Brain) Cooper of McPherson; brothers Leon Schmidt of North Newton, LeRoy Schmidt of McPherson; sister Velda Braun of Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren.

Dwight Alan Schmidt was welcomed into this world by his parents Peter Schmidt, Jr. and Hilda E. Schmidt on May 21, 1956. He was born in Goessel, KS and brought home to meet his siblings Jolene, Darrel and Janet in their home in Lehigh, KS. The family was blessed with two more children, LaVonne and Julia, in the following years.

Dwight attended Lehigh Grade and Junior High School and Hillsboro High School. He attended the Lehigh Mennonite Church where he was baptized. Currently he was a member of First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro. 

Growing up in a small town was a wonderful experience for children in those years. We were free to roam the town and play with all the neighbor kids till dark without fear. We all loved to visit our father at the local filling station where he worked and spent many hours there. Dwight remembered helping our father read water meters and replace light bulbs on the town’s streetlights. He remembered having the time of his life running down the halls in Lehigh High School where our father was the custodian, as do the rest of us. He remembered the smell of baking zweibach with mom on Saturdays and working in the garden with the family. He also remembered mother helping the children with their Sunday School lessons every Saturday evening. As a family we spent many hours on the farms of our grandpas' and grandmas' and playing with cousins on the weekends was a big highlight. Dwight participated in making rubber band boats for races in the stock tank with his brother and cousin and then, of course, plunging in to cool off in the summer heat.

During high school years he played in intramural sports. Word has it that he could make a basket from “pretty far out.” He had a group of friends he hung out with; we aren’t quite sure what kinds of shenanigans they were up to. He also spent time at Henry’s Auto Shop in downtown Lehigh and helped work on cars. It was a hangout place in the evenings and weekends for Lehigh kids. 

Dwight was a very dedicated and hard worker. He started working at AMPI in Hillsboro when he was 16 years old both before and after school. He would get up early and roar down the road in his white Corvair. He started out loading and unloading freight and rose to the position of manager, doing the ordering of all ingredients for the Baskin Robbins ice cream that was made at that plant. He also ran the store they had on the premises. For Christmas the family always got gifts of “cheese” he purchased from AMPI -- and it sure was tasty! This was all, of course, before computers so he had to keep all manual inventory records. He could still recite phone numbers for the places he called and names of the salespersons he dealt with. He had a very sharp mind and memory. He was one of the last employees to walk out the door when AMPI closed. 

He also worked on the trailer assembly line at Circle D in Hillsboro for several years. After that he worked for some years at Walmart in McPherson where he was placed in charge of stocking the entire dairy department and he was very well liked there. He was also a faithful volunteer at the Et Cetera shop in Hillsboro. 

He was a quiet person but one-on-one he was very friendly and cared deeply about people. He had a wonderful dry sense of humor which we all loved and will miss.

Dwight was a good cook and loved to look up recipes and try them out. He would also make up his own. He hunted pheasants and would try various ways of fixing them to eat. He loved nature and would take peaceful drives in the country for pleasure. He had several vehicles over the years that he was quite proud of – a red 1977 T-bird, a 1978 black and gold El Camino (called The Black Knight), a BMW motorcycle and several pickups. He planted flowers and rhubarb in pots outside his door and took good care of them. He put out water and bird seed for the birds and frequently had to chase the squirrels away. He was an avid reader and always had a book beside him. He won the award in his elementary years for “Most Books Read” during the school year. He kept up on all the current news and always seemed to know what was going on before any of us did. He had a love of music and had an extensive collection of record albums and CDs. He recently got a record player and was listening to his old albums. He loved KU basketball and the Chiefs. He watched most all their games and could tell you exactly how they were doing. He had a coin collection. He loved hats and had “a zillion of them.” When Mother was still with us he would visit her in the nursing home in Hillsboro several times a week. His visits cheered her up and made him feel like he was doing what a faithful son would do.

2018 was a hard year as he battled cancer. He was very brave as he faced radiation and chemotherapy. He never complained but remained upbeat. It was during this time that he rediscovered his faith and love for God. He read scripture and devotionals and many books to learn more and more about living a life to please the Lord. That continued until the end of his life.

2019-2021 were good years for Dwight. He had moved to his apartment on West Grand in Hillsboro and was asked to be on the board of the Hillsboro Housing Authority, which he accepted. He thoroughly enjoyed those meetings, making friends with the executive director as well as the maintenance man. He even helped with little projects in the housing development. He always enjoyed visits with our family and he loved his little apartment and his life there.

2022 again saw the return of cancer. He said that it felt like the movie “Groundhog Day” as he had to return to Tammy Walker Cancer Center in Salina for radiation and chemotherapy. We are so thankful for the kind doctors and nurses who assisted him there. He was once again very brave and never complained. This is a quote from Dwight – “Life on this earth can be very hard at times. But the Lord has plans for each of us. We all have to put our trust in Him.” After sending Dwight the scripture from Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you; I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” he replied “The Lord’s hand is on my shoulder.” We know that this was the true expression of his faith, as he had given his life to Jesus and was ready to follow the path that was chosen for him.

Dwight passed into the presence of our Lord on July 3, 2022 at 2:57 p.m. “with the Lord’s hand on his shoulder” after an emergency air flight to KU St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He is now with our mother, father, sister Janet and nephew Marshal as well as many relatives and friends who have gone on before. We are sad but do not grieve without hope because we know we will see him again in heaven.

Schmidt on May 21, 1956. He was born in Goessel, KS and brought home to meet his siblings Jolene, Darrel and Janet in their home in Lehigh, KS. The family was blessed with two more children, LaVonne and Julia, in the following years. Dwight attended Lehigh Grade and Junior High School and Hillsboro High School. He attended the Lehigh Mennonite Church where he was baptized. Currently he was a member of First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro. Growing up in a small town was a wonderful experience for children in those years. We were free to roam the town and play with all the neighbor kids till dark without fear. We all loved to visit our father at the local filling station where he worked and spent many hours there. Dwight remembered helping our father read water meters and replace light bulbs on the town’s streetlights. He remembered having the time of his life running down the halls in Lehigh High School where our father was the custodian, as do the rest of us. He remembered the smell of baking zweibach with mom on Saturdays and working in the garden with the family. He also remembered mother helping the children with their Sunday School lessons every Saturday evening. As a family we spent many hours on the farms of our grandpas' and grandmas' and playing with cousins on the weekends was a big highlight. Dwight participated in making rubber band boats for races in the stock tank with his brother and cousin and then, of course, plunging in to cool off in the summer heat. During high school years he played in intramural sports. Word has it that he could make a basket from “pretty far out.” He had a group of friends he hung out with; we aren’t quite sure what kinds of shenanigans they were up to. He also spent time at Henry’s Auto Shop in downtown Lehigh and helped work on cars. It was a hangout place in the evenings and weekends for Lehigh kids. Dwight was a very dedicated and hard worker. He started working at AMPI in Hillsboro when he was 16 years old both before and after school. He would get up early and roar down the road in his white Corvair. He started out loading and unloading freight and rose to the position of manager, doing the ordering of all ingredients for the Baskin Robbins ice cream that was made at that plant. He also ran the store they had on the premises. For Christmas the family always got gifts of “cheese” he purchased from AMPI -- and it sure was tasty! This was all, of course, before computers so he had to keep all manual inventory records. He could still recite phone numbers for the places he called and names of the salespersons he dealt with. He had a very sharp mind and memory. He was one of the last employees to walk out the door when AMPI closed. He also worked on the trailer assembly line at Circle D in Hillsboro for several years. After that he worked for some years at Walmart in McPherson where he was placed in charge of stocking the entire dairy department and he was very well liked there. He was also a faithful volunteer at the Et Cetera shop in Hillsboro. He was a quiet person but one-on-one he was very friendly and cared deeply about people. He had a wonderful dry sense of humor which we all loved and will miss.Dwight was a good cook and loved to look up recipes and try them out. He would also make up his own. He hunted pheasants and would try various ways of fixing them to eat. He loved nature and would take peaceful drives in the country for pleasure. He had several vehicles over the years that he was quite proud of – a red 1977 T-bird, a 1978 black and gold El Camino (called The Black Knight), a BMW motorcycle and several pickups. He planted flowers and rhubarb in pots outside his door and took good care of them. He put out water and bird seed for the birds and frequently had to chase the squirrels away. He was an avid reader and always had a book beside him. He won the award in his elementary years for “Most Books Read” during the school year. He kept up on all the current news and always seemed to know what was going on before any of us did. He had a love of music and had an extensive collection of record albums and CDs. He recently got a record player and was listening to his old albums. He loved KU basketball and the Chiefs. He watched most all their games and could tell you exactly how they were doing. He had a coin collection. He loved hats and had “a zillion of them.” When Mother was still with us he would visit her in the nursing home in Hillsboro several times a week. His visits cheered her up and made him feel like he was doing what a faithful son would do.2018 was a hard year as he battled cancer. He was very brave as he faced radiation and chemotherapy. He never complained but remained upbeat. It was during this time that he rediscovered his faith and love for God. He read scripture and devotionals and many books to learn more and more about living a life to please the Lord. That continued until the end of his life. 2019-2021 were good years for Dwight. He had moved to his apartment on West Grand in Hillsboro and was asked to be on the board of the Hillsboro Housing Authority, which he accepted. He thoroughly enjoyed those meetings, making friends with the executive director as well as the maintenance man. He even helped with little projects in the housing development. He always enjoyed visits with our family and he loved his little apartment and his life there.2022 again saw the return of cancer. He said that it felt like the movie “Groundhog Day” as he had to return to Tammy Walker Cancer Center in Salina for radiation and chemotherapy. We are so thankful for the kind doctors and nurses who assisted him there. He was once again very brave and never complained. This is a quote from Dwight – “Life on this earth can be very hard at times. But the Lord has plans for each of us. We all have to put our trust in Him.” After sending Dwight the scripture from Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you; I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” he replied “The Lord’s hand is on my shoulder.” We know that this was the true expression of his faith, as he had given his life to Jesus and was ready to follow the path that was chosen for him. Dwight passed into the presence of our Lord on July 3, 2022 at 2:57 p.m. “with the Lord’s hand on his shoulder” after an emergency air flight to KU St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He is now with our mother, father, sister Janet and nephew Marshal as well as many relatives and friends who have gone on before. We are sad but do not grieve without hope because we know we will see him again in heaven. Donald Leo Grelinger, age 79, of Beloit, Kansas was born July 12, 1942. He was called home early July 5th, 2022 after a short illness at the Mitchell County Hospital. He was the youngest of seven children born to Anthony and Sophia (Schauf) Grelinger. 

Don grew up on the family farm five miles north of Beloit in Mitchell County along with his siblings Lawrence, John, Paul, Norbert, Robert and Margaret. Don attended first grade at Plum Creek country school (affectionately called Plum Creek University). The following years he attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Schools,&nbsp;except for his junior year, where he lived on the Montrose farm in Jewell county working and attending school.

Don was married to Elaine Murray on October 5, 1963 at St. Theresa’s&nbsp;Church, Mankato KS.&nbsp;To this union three daughters were born, Karen Sue, Pamela Dawn and Sherry Beth.

 Elaine preceded him in death December 23, 2018.&nbsp;

Don was a lifelong, faithful and active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, often attending daily mass, also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Eagles Club.

After attending school in Wichita he worked as a barber in McPherson, Salina and then returned to Beloit, setting up shop on the main floor of the Porter Hotel.&nbsp; As people drove by, all could see him through the large window.

A severe auto accident in 1988 took him away from&nbsp;barbering. Don also had an inherited passion for farming, partnering with some of his brothers.

The Captain’s Quarters was a big part of Don’s life, as well as others, which he owned&nbsp; and managed for years. The Quarters first location was at Highway 24 and Main Street. His establishment seemed to bust at the seams, wall to wall people with bands most every Friday and Saturday night. Since the building was filled to capacity so often, Don saw the need to expand and built a larger Captain’s Quarters operating on Highway 24 for several years. Probably, as some may know, Don saw a profit to be had, sold the building and moved the business to the old Elks Club, now known as the Down Under. Don was a guy that burned the candle on&nbsp;both ends.&nbsp;

In Don’s later years he helped local farmers with harvest and field work. He had a passion for transforming a field of trees to a field of dreams, removing hundreds of trees, increasing the value of the land. This was a project he continued until his death. His close friend and business partner recently toured their properties and had a great day. Don was very peaceful and happy that day and felt “caught up” on the farm work.

There are many stories to tell about Don but best be told by his many friends. For sure, they will tell you he had 9 lives and was on number 30. Don was blessed to be able to receive the sacraments of the church from Fr. Rockers before his passing. Don was deeply devoted to the blessed Virgin Mary, the rosary and his faith. May his soul rest in peace.

David Mahaffey, 80, of Enterprise, passed away June 5, 2022 at Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born in Morton, Mississippi April 30, 1942, the son of Harold Mahaffey and Nora Regions. 

He married JoAnn Ray. They later divorced. In 1984 he married Meg Pratt. She preceded him in death in 2006. 

David served in the Army and later working in civil services. 

David is survived by his children Tonya Mahaffey, Marietta Aponte and Shane Mahaffey, stepchildren Jodie Tyrrell, Carmen McTernan, Lesley and Jason Sanders, siblings Billy Jo Mahaffey, Nancy Green, Glenn Mahaffey and Elaine Ratcliffe, nine grandchildren, and his ex-wife, JoAnn Ray. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Meg Pratt and one sister, Sarah Porter. 

The family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m.., Monday, July 11, 2022 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene.

Catherine Irene Reed Patton went to her heavenly home on July 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Catherine was born to Victor and Bessie (Hindman) Reed on July, 19, 1927 and she was one of six siblings.

 On August 2, 1947 Catherine was united in marriage to John E. Patton at the Methodist Church of Salina, KS. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2007.

Catherine graduated from Solomon High School in 1945 and also attended Brown Mackie. 

She worked for the Reflector Chronicle for many years. She volunteered at the historical society, was a member of Eastern Star and First Baptist Church. Catherine loved to cook, read and spend time with family and friends. She loved to dance and sing along to her favorite hymns, country western songs and Elvis.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Victor Reed and Robert Reed, and her sister Velma Erker. 

She is survived by daughters Vicki (Bob) Wright of Abilene, KS, and Joyce (Ron) Montgomery of Rockdale, TX; one brother, Ed Reed of Melbourne, FL and one sister, Velda Isaacson of Salina, KS; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday night, July 7th at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8th at First Baptist Church, Abilene at 10:00 in the morning.

David Jon Gilgenbach was born June 21, 1966, in Norton, KS to John and 
Dolores (Hillebrand) Gilgenbach. He passed away July 2, 2022, at the age 
of 56.
 Dave grew up in Clayton, KS and graduated from Jennings High School 
in 1984. He always enjoyed working on the farm with his brothers. Dave 
went on to own his own trucks and was an over-the-road truck driver for 
many years. One of the highlights of his trucking career was getting the
 privilege of hauling the Remington statues that are located at the 
Norton Public Library. Most recently, he was working for Ag Valley as a 
truck driver. Dave enjoyed sharing about the places he’d been with his 
family. In his spare time, he enjoyed being on the road, whether it was 
riding his bike or cruising in his Camaro. 
 Dave married Linda Wentling on June 8, 2022, in Norton, KS. He got to
 know the true joys of being a grandfather after getting to spend time 
with Linda’s children and grandchildren. Dave had a very special 
relationship with his nephew, Alec, his wife Sabrina and their two 
girls, and loved spending time with them. He always loved bringing 
smiles to children’s faces. Dave loved spoiling his nieces and nephews 
when they were younger, their children now and his grandchildren, seeing
 how excited they were meant everything to him. 
 He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 
the American Legion Riders of Norton, and the Sons of the American 
Legion of Jennings.

He married Kristine Swenson on August 10, 1968 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, KS. 

 Dale was a United States Army veteran and fought in the Vietnam War.  He worked as an aftermarket auto parts salesman.  Dale was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife Kristine, of the home; daughters Alisa Jones of Lindsborg, KS and Rachel Whetstone (Mechelle Martinez) of Manhattan, KS; sister Carol Reed of McPherson, KS; brother Larry "Dean" Whetstone of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Emily Jones and Trevor Jones; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dorothy Davis.

Sue Renee Buchanan, 66, of Ellsworth, Kansas, passed away on July 3, 2022, at Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; Sue was born February 17, 1956, the daughter of Guy and Roberta Buchanan, Little River, Kansas.&nbsp; She was diagnosed at a young age with cerebral palsy and lived at home, Winfield (Kansas) State Hospital, and the Mosaic home in Ellsworth.&nbsp;

 Sue loved singing, babies, fingernail polish, and getting her photograph taken.&nbsp; She was a woman of strong opinions; she made her likes, and dislikes, clear. 

he is survived by her mother Roberta (Little River), brothers Joe and wife Rita (Council Grove, Kansas), Rex and wife Mindy (Lawrence, Kansas), and Ted and wife Laura (Lubbock, Texas) and their families, all of whom want to thank Sue’s caregivers, especially at Mosaic and Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be 10 a.m., July 8, at Bean Cemetery, Little River, with lunch following at the Congregational Church, Little River.&nbsp;
