Ilo Arlene Oakley was born March 28, 1924, the daughter of G. Cleveland and Edna E. Wise on a farm north of Cawker City, Kansas. She died Thursday, January 3, 2022 at her home in Lawrence, Kansas at the age of 97.

&nbsp;She attended Cawker City Schools, graduating from Beloit High School in 1942, where she took Normal Training to teach. She taught four terms, one in rural Jewell County, and three in Mitchell County, the last term at Glen Elder Grade School in 1945.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cawker City, where she was united in marriage with Keith D. Oakley of Asherville on November 19, 1945. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Dennis K. Oakley and Steven D. Oakley. She was a homemaker and a partner in business ventures with Keith and son Dennis.

Survivors are her son Dennis of Lawrence and granddaughter Stephanie and husband Eric Friesen of Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Keith; son Steven; three sisters, Mildred Slaven, Dorothy Brummer, and Margaret Wells; and her brother Eugene Wise.

Private graveside services will take place at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City. There will be no visitation.

Dee Dee’s life began on October 7, 1954, in Dalhart, TX. She was the daughter of Jake and Margaret (Doss) Barlow. 

She worked as a bartender in Guymon, OK, &nbsp;and was part of the doctoring crew at Hitch’s feedlot in Hardesty, OK. She worked hard and loved to learn. All of her friends’ kids were hers too, she was Mama DeeDee to many. She had a quick wit and enjoyed music, dancing, playing pool and get-togethers with friends and family. She was well known for her fiery spirit and red hair. She dearly loved animals. Legend has it that her mother wore combat boots. 

Dee Dee was united in marriage to Steve Lang on November 18, 1983, in Hardesty, OK. &nbsp;Dee Dee’s greatest joy was her family which includes her husband Steve Lang of Greeley, CO, daughter Lindsey Lang of Greeley, CO, sister Cheryl January of Pryor, OK, brother Joe Barlow of Amarillo, TX, mother-in-law Frances Gehrke of Herington, KS, sisters-in-law Susan Sponsler of Montague, CA, and Sheri Alvey of Herington, KS brother-in-law Scott Lang of Abilene, KS, grand-dogger Ginger of Greeley, CO and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; 

Dee Dee passed away on February 3, 2022, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law Richard Gehrke, niece Jill Coburn, stepson Brandon Lang, and nephew Josh Lang. 

Her family will gather with friends on Thursday February 10, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington. Her funeral service will be held on Friday February 11, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Herington. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Jerold “Jerry” B. Eubanks, age 71, entered into rest on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on May 2, 1950 in Concordia, Kansas to J. B. and Irene C. (Slater) Eubanks. 

Jerry was a 1968 graduate of Concordia High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Jerry was united in marriage to Karen J. Eubanks on December 31, 1980 in Great Bend, Kansas. &nbsp;&nbsp;To this union three children were born, Brandy, Christopher, Bobby, and Sheena.

Jerry was a truck driver for several years for various companies throughout his life, and most recently he drove for Lambert Trucking Company.&nbsp; Earliere in life Jerry worked in the oil fields around the Great Bend, Kansas area. &nbsp;

He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, especially with the Legion Riders and their activities, fixing bicycles, putting together models, and doing auto body work.&nbsp; Jerry also loved spending time with his family, friends, and especially his beloved grandchildren.

Jerry was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3rd&nbsp;Degree, &nbsp;American Legion Post #76, American Legion Riders, all of Concordia, Kansas.

Jerry &nbsp;is survived by his wife Karen Eubanks, Concordia, KS; Brandy Eubanks (Jeff Bogart), Concordia, KS; Christopher Eubanks (Dusty), Emporia, KS; Bobby Eubanks (Megan), Concordia, KS; Sheena Brown (Justin) Hoisington, KS; his seven grandchildren, Courtney, Chloe, Gage, Lexi, Leighton, Colton, and Kaezlee; a brother, Larry Eubanks (Janet), Concordia, KS; brother and sisters-in-laws Cathy and Greg White, Clay Center, KS; Jim McDaniel, Salina, KS; Glenda and Richard Weaver, Aurora, KS; John and Debbie McDaniel, Detroit, MI; Deb and Jeff Benson, Salina, KS; Michael and Annette McDaniel, CO; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents J.B. and Irene, infant sister Maryann Eubanks, sister Charlene Collins, father and mother-in-law Harland and Alberta McDaniel, two brothers-in-law, Bill and Tony McDaniel, and sister-in-law, Dianna McDaniel.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, February 9 , 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.&nbsp; A rosary service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, Kansas with Fr. David Metz officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas. Military honors will be conducted by the local American Legion Post #76 and the United States Navy.

Garold “Gene” Johnson, age 93, died February 5, 2022 at Mount Joseph Senior Village. He was born September 6, 1928 in Cloud County near Aurora to Perry Albert Johnson and Anna Marie (Forsling) Johnson. 

He attended rural country schools at Cottonwood, New Hope, and Pleasant Hill in Cloud County, and graduated from Concordia High School in 1946.

Gene’s exceptional work ethic began at a very young age. He began delivering papers for the Blade Empire at the age of 13, then worked at the Ben Franklin store as a freshman in high school, and finally, began his career at the Cloud County Bank and Trust, (now The Citizens National Bank), starting as a bookkeeper, and retiring as senior vice-president in 1990, with a total of 41 years in banking. Gene attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Banking and graduated in 1982.

 From 1951 to 1953, Gene served as a U.S. Army Sergeant Medic in the occupational forces in Germany as part of the 28th Division, 110th Regiment, Company G.

In March of 1953, Gene proposed to Laura “Jean” Miller, the love of his life, and they were married on his 25th birthday, September 6, 1953 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Concordia.

Gene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and then First United Methodist Church in Concordia. In 1971, he was instrumental in the renovation of Bethel Church (rural Cloud County) that was built by Swedish immigrants, including his parents. 

Throughout his life, Gene was extremely active in his community. He was a member of the Concordia Lions Club for 56 years, and served as district governor from 1976-1977, and then served as secretary treasurer of the Kansas Lions from 1977-1978. He served on many state Lions committees, and he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1993-1994. He served as the treasurer for Cloud County Community Jr. College for 43 years and served on various library boards, including the State Library Board, Central KS Library Board, and the Frank Carlson Library Board. Gene served as the chairman of the Cloud County Red Cross chapter for over 20 years, and donated just short of 15 gallons of blood during his lifetime until he was no longer able to give.

A loving father and grandfather who instilled an amazing work ethic in his children, Gene made sure that his family experienced sports and culture at every opportunity, and took them on extended summer vacations to 49 states and Canada.

Gene is survived by his sister Victoria (Johnson) Roberts Concordia, sister-in-law Ila Johnson, Lindsborg; children Kim Oatney (Jim) Waterville, Kevin Johnson (Sheri) Concordia; grandson Joshua Johnson, Overland Park (fiance’ Sarah Carollo, Lee’s Summit, MO) granddaughters Ashleigh Johnson, Tulsa, OK, Kelsey Hamel, Shawnee, and Addison Johnson Lopez (Daniel) Bartlesville, OK. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, his daughter Lynnette (Johnson) Hamel, son-in-law Jim Hamel, and his siblings: Perry Johnson, Clayton Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Floyd Johnson, Alma (Johnson) Wright, Ida Lucille Johnson, Marvin Johnson, Leanna Johnson, Leo Johnson, and Treva (Johnson) Jorend.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. 6th, Concordia with Pastor David Redmond officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia with military honors conducted by the Local American Legion Post #76, and U.S. Army Big Red One, Ft. Riley, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. 

The family asks that Gene's memory be honored by gifts to the Lions Club SightFirst program or the American Red Cross, in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Arvin H. Eilders was born on May 15, 1931 in Lyon County Iowa to Harm D. and Gertrude (Krahling) Eilders. Arvin grew up on the family farm and completed 8th grade at Dale #9. 

He then joined his father on the farm. He was a member of the Lyon County Presbyterian Church being baptized into the faith when he was 14. 

He married Betty J. Rypkema in 1952. He then was drafted into the army in 1952 and was an army tank driver. He served in the army for two years and then returned to the family farm. 

A son, Kent, was born in 1956 and then he moved to Stewartville, MN where he farmed. A daughter, Kim was born in 1960. He then moved to Iowa where another daughter, Kandyce was born in 1970. After moving to Lake City, IA he worked for Bowie selling mobile veterinary units. He then moved to Solomon, Ks where he purchased a farm and returned to farming. 

He and Betty divorced in 1973. He then met and married Virginia Denson in 1979 and they were married 42 years making their home on the farm south of Solomon, KS.

Arvin was a member of Belmont Blvd. Nazarene Church where he served in various capacities. He served several years on the church board as a trustee. He also served as adult Sunday school director, head usher and just about anywhere he was needed. He is survived by his widow Virginia, three children, Kent (Kate) Eilders, Kim (Don) Montgomery, and Kandyce Eilders, three stepchildren, Carmen Denson, Craig( Nancy) Denson, and Crystal (Sherry Gabbart) Denson, nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by one sister, Joan (Harlan) Boer, two brothers Richard (Jan) Eilders, and Robert (Pat) Eilders. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Ruth, Byrla, and Janet. Graveside services will be at Green Lawn Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2022. Memorial Service will be at Belmont Blvd Nazarene Church, 2632 Highland, Salina, KS at 11:30 a.m. following the graveside service. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the funeral home in Solomon.

Dottie was a member of the Emmanuel Church in Abilene and enjoyed crafting, bowling, golfing, and fishing with Junior. She also spent a great deal of her time volunteering at the Abilene Memorial Hospital at the front desk. She is survived by her son Lonnie and his wife Dhera Hoffman of Groton, South Dakota, her daughter-in-law June Hoffman of Chapman, seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Junior on November 4, 2010, her son Larry Hoffman, her grandson Troy Hoffman, and her parents. Funeral services for Dottie will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Emmanuel Church in Abilene with Pastor Gordon McClure officiating. She lived her childhood years in the San Diego area and graduated from Santana High School in Santee, CA.&nbsp; In her 20s, she moved to Houston where she worked for 27 years at an engineering firm and a valve supply company.&nbsp; She married her husband, Randy Olson, in Houston in 2004.&nbsp; She was an active member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Houston.

Jo and Randy moved to Erie, CO in 2005 and lived there until retiring and moving to Salina in 2018.&nbsp; She enjoyed family trips, Kansas State sports, and an occasional camping or hiking trip with her husband.&nbsp; She also had an enduring love for her three dogs whom she called her children.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp; She is survived by her husband Randy, brother William Salvi and sister-in-law Susan Dinauer of Madison, WI, brother-in-law John Olson of Dallas, and nieces Nelia Salvi and Livia Salvi, both of Chicago.

Lindsborg, Kan. -- James M. (Maitland) Johnson, Jr. passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022, with Sally, his wife of 59 years and loving caregiver by his side.

Jim, as he preferred to be called, was born in Wichita, Kansas, May 23, 1942 to parents James Maitland and Lucille (Sole) Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is his survived by his wife, Sally (Harmon), whom he married on May 27th, 1962 in Kansas City; their son Michael Johnson and his wife, Theresa; grandchildren Kayla and Andrew; and a brother, Jim Sole.

He also had two brothers, Larry and Dennis Johnson, who preceded him in death.

Jim grew up in Lindsborg, attending local schools through high school, graduating from the Lindsborg Rural High School on May 26, 1960.

He worked at the Danielson-Johnson Funeral Home in Lindsborg and continued working as he also began his studies at Bethany College with the goal of becoming a teacher. &nbsp;

His education would be interrupted as he was tapped for service in the United States Army, in which he served from August 1966 to June 1969. He earned the rank of sergeant, served as a drill instructor, and served one tour of duty in Vietnam in the Infantry Division.

With his service complete, he returned to Lindsborg, worked what he called a series of “odd jobs” while continuing his studies at Bethany College and at the Kansas State Teacher’s College (now known as Emporia State) where he completed his bachelor’s of Sscience degree in education in 1974.

Jim began his educational career teaching English at Salina Central High School and, in 1975, joined the faculty at the Lindsborg Rural High School, where he taught English and journalism until his retirement due to a medical issue in 1991.

Jim was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather who was always there when you needed him. He was well known in the community, a friend to many, and a proud member of the American Legion in Lindsborg. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his hobby of woodworking, hunting and fishing.

There will be an informal, come-and-go celebration of life from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room (at end of alley facing the street) at Bethany Home Cottages (404 W. State Street) in Lindsborg, Kan. on Saturday, Feb. 12. &nbsp;

Michael attended Salina Central High School and Kansas Wesleyan University before spending the bulk of his career at Exide Technologies.&nbsp; During his 32 years with Exide, Michael wore many hats.&nbsp; He held various leadership roles, including formation supervisor, superintendent, and department manager.&nbsp; His understanding of integrity, generosity, honesty, and couth is what made Michael an exemplary leader.&nbsp; These are the qualities that has earned him trust and respect from his fellow employees and gained friendships that will forever be cherished through time.

After 32 years, Michael was ready for a change.&nbsp; He left Exide to embark on a new journey with XPO Logistics.&nbsp; His colleagues would describe him as having an infectious smile.&nbsp; Michael’s unmatched energy and welcoming smile would light up any room.&nbsp; Whether you needed a good laugh or a shoulder to cry on, he was always there for you.

Michael was very passionate about his family, racing, and football.&nbsp; His devotion to his family was obvious in the way he loved and cared for them.&nbsp; They could always count on him for anything, come rain or shine, Michael would always be there no matter what.&nbsp; In the summertime you could find Michael at the racetrack with Leon and Chau.&nbsp; Football season consisted of Michael, Chau, and Boomer rooting for the OU Sooners.&nbsp;

Michael’s selflessness was endeared by all who loved him.&nbsp; He will forever be in our hearts.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Chau, his four beautiful children, Timothy McGaha (Destiny) and Tyler McGaha (Haley), both of Salina, Austin Huyhn and Brandon Huyhn, both of Kansas City, his father Leon E. Leland Wayne Nuss of Newton, Kansas passed away on February 4, 2022 at the age of 91. After several months of declining health, Leland died peacefully with his beloved wife Patricia and their children by his side.

Leland (Lee) was born in Hillsboro, KS on October 19, 1930 to father Charles Nuss and mother Anna (Matz) Nuss. Losing his father at the age of 10, Lee spent most of his childhood on a farm at Waldek, KS with his mother and older brother Allen. He enjoyed playing school sports where as a freshman, was a member of the Lehigh 1944 state basketball championship team. He later transferred to and graduated from Hillsboro High School.

Lee met and soon married his forever sweetheart, Patricia (Jost), in September of 1958. Throughout their 63 years of marriage, they weathered the ups and downs of life together while raising their three children - - Dale, Elaine and Jan. 

Lee was a farmer and cattleman for much of his adult life, and later went on to work for AMPI in Hillsboro. He finished his working career with the Hesston school district where he drove a school bus for many years. He loved his school bus kids, and they loved Mr. Nuss!

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Lee - - playing dominoes and pinnacle, family dinners, watching school sports (especially when his grandchildren were playing), pie, outdoor work/activities, 4th of July fireworks, ice cream, cattle, as well as discussing the weather and crop conditions with his fellow farming friends and family. 

But most notably, Lee was a man of strong faith and conviction. Being a Christian was always the foundation of his life. He was a life-long Lutheran, baptized and confirmed&nbsp; a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, KS.

Leland is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Allen (Virginia) Nuss, and a stillborn daughter. 

He is survived by his wife Patricia of Newton, KS; a son Dale (Becky) Nuss of Hillsboro, KS; daughters Elaine (Kent) VanBuskirk of Prairie Village, KS and Jan (Jim)Knobel of Lenexa, KS; seven grandchildren; three great-grandsons as well as his cherished nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Leland is planned for Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro, KS. Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Clark Davis officiating.

LeRoy W. Johnston passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Garden Terrace in Overland Park, Kansas. Leroy was 80. He spent his last ten years requiring full-time nursing care due to Alzheimer’s/dementia. Prior to the nursing home, he lived in Park City, Hays, and the majority of his life, in McPherson, KS. LeRoy was born near Coldwater, KS in 1941. The family made their way to McPherson. His father, Harold Johnston, was a teacher and coached basketball.

 LeRoy graduated from McPherson High School. He attended welding school and married Betty Nelson when both were in their early 20s. He adopted Betty’s three sons, Richard (Vickie) of Wichita, KS, Marty Olathe, KS, and Troy (Connie) of The Woodlands, TX, and later had a daughter with Betty, Michelle (Robert Alexander) of Kansas City, MO. The marriage ended in 1983. 

He has a brother, Charles, who lives in Downers Grove, IL. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two nieces and their families, and former wife, Betty Wait of Buckner, MO. 

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marie Johnston. LeRoy earned a living in his younger years as a welder but ultimately lost a good part of his hearing and endured back problems. He then worked for periods of time at Certain Teed, Swick-Guth, RC Williams Oil company and for many years, at Wichita Kenworth until his cognitive decline. He enjoyed building things and driving big rigs and heavy equipment. He was a licensed pilot with instrument rating as well. LeRoy enjoyed driving around on Sundays, watching TV and a big bowl of popcorn with a glass of cold milk. He often spent weekends helping others with projects or earning some extra money by creating/welding motorcycle trailers. He seemed to always find projects but also enjoyed boating and camping. When he lived in McPherson, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Services will be private and his final resting place will be next to his parents at McPherson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Survivors include his daughter Mariah (Travis) Sawyer of McPherson, KS; one grandson, Jordan Sawyer of McPherson, KS; a brother, Earl (Chloe) Base of Galva, KS; two nieces, Teri (Dwayne) Mastre of Galva, KS and Audrey (Brandon) Koehn of Galva, KS; and many extended family and friends. Richard Albert Popp was born to Solomon Popp and Mollie (Scheck) Popp on March 4, 1925 in Wheatland Township, Barton County, KS. He was the oldest of six children. 

Some of Richard’s fondest memories include spending lots of time helping his uncles on their farms. Richard was a very hard worker his entire life and passed that strong work ethic onto his children.

Richard attended school in Hoisington, KS, and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1943. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Charlotte Schepmann. They were married on August 12, 1945 and celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary just a few months before Charlotte passed away. Their marriage was blessed with three children – Richelle, Royce, and Chris.

Richard worked in the oil fields during his younger years, doing a variety of tasks, and eventually became a salesman for various oilfield service companies. The family relocated to different locations throughout Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas over the span of 15 years. He and Charlotte decided to return home to Kansas, where he purchased a service station. Richard loved working on cars and being his own boss. After several years, they moved to west Texas to be in a warmer climate - and there they stayed for over 40 years.

Richard and Charlotte were very active in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod throughout their lives. Richard served as elder, trustee, and held a number of other leadership positions. He was active in the Campus Crusade for Christ ministry, the Gideons, and the Lutheran Laymen’s League. Richard was an avid fan of Billy Graham and Rush Limbaugh.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Popp, son Royce Pope, grandson Logan Pope, great-grandsons Ivan Gengler and Jacoby Pope, great-granddaughter Cora Pope, parents Solomon and Mollie Popp, brother Marvin Popp, and sister Alice Foster.

 He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Richelle and Scott Gengler, daughter-in-law Jane Pope Meehan, son and daughter-in-law Chris and Mary Pope; grandchildren Shawn and Judy Gengler, Barry Gengler, Jeremy and&nbsp; Jessica Gengler, Kristin Gengler, Jordan Gengler, Evan and Christina Pope, Anne and Kyle Mead, Addison and Lori Pope, Ashley Pope, Lauren and Luke Hullett, Landon Pope, Brenna Pope, and Brooklyn Pope; 16 great grandchildren, brothers Vern and Bill Popp, and sister Velma Boepple.

Mr. Popp received his Crown of Life on February 1, 2022 at the age of 96.

Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holyrood, KS with burial following in the church cemetery.

Michael F. Bishop, 65, passed away January 31, 2022, at his home in Ellsworth, KS. He was born July 23, 1956, in Kansas City, KS to Dean and Imogene (Linder) Bishop.

Michael is survived by his daughter Becky Good (Chris) of Beverly, KS; son Ben Bishop (Sunnie) of Lincoln, KS; brothers Steve Bishop (Linda) and Mark Bishop (Nadine); sisters Barb Phillips (Dick) and Cathy Brockway (Lonnie); and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Pat Bishop; and life partner Charlotte Collins.

Delmer Lee Meyer, age 74, entered into rest on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at his home in Concordia, Kansas. Delmer was born on April 23, 1947 to Elmer J. and Madeline (Christensen) Meyer in Superior, Nebraska. 

He grew up on a farm at Bostwick, Nebraska.&nbsp; 

He attended elementary school at Bostwick and graduated from Superior High School.&nbsp; He furthered his education at Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska graduating with a degree in auto body repair. After graduation he worked in the auto body repair field and then in agriculture related positions where he became interested in the trucking business.&nbsp; He later established his own trucking company, Meyer Trucking, Inc.&nbsp;

Delmer married Mary Jean James on January 14, 1983 at the Concordia Wesleyan Church, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Delmer’s hobbies included going to auctions and collecting, avid Nascar fan, Facebook, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Delmer attended the Concordia Wesleyan Church. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #76, and a past Moose Lodge Member, all of Concordia.

Delmer was preceded in death by his mother Madeline, in 1956, by his father and stepmother, Elmer and Lorene Meyer, grandparents, and a nephew, Matthew Dickinson.

He is survived by his wife Mary of the home in Concordia, three children, Christipher Saunders (Elisabeth) Warren, VT; Donna Sue Franklin (Rick) Yukon, OK; Rebecca Scimeca (Bill) Caney, KS; 12 Grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, sister Carol (Glen) Mueller of Nelson, NE; brother Ron (Marilyn) Thomsen of Reno, NV; sister Cheryl (Arden) Russell of Webber, KS; sister Sharon (Doug) Dickinson of Seward, NE; brother Neil (Barb) Thomsen of Superior, NE; and sister Yvonne Meyer (Stuart Price) of Joplin, MO; good friend Chester Saunders, Concordia, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. Delmer’s wishes were to be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Concordia Wesleyan Church, with Pastor David Redmond and Pastor Bob Burns officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

Sherry Almquist, 75, passed away on January 31, 2022, after courageously battling Alzheimer’s disease for over 20 years. She was an incredible mother, an adored daughter, sister, aunt and cousin, a loyal and loving friend, a gifted counselor and teacher, and a beautiful human being with a smile that could light up a room. She will be missed terribly. She was born Sherry Sue Seaman on March 15, 1946, the fourth child of Neal and Ardith Seaman of Chapman.

She was an active student at Dickinson County High School, where she was involved in drama, cheerleading, music and student government. She was crowned homecoming queen her senior year and graduated in 1964 before continuing her studies at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Sherry graduated from KSU in 1969 and was the first person in her family to get a college degree. While at K-State, Sherry met and married Merlan Almquist of Assaria, and their children Eric and Kimberly were born several years later. Sherry and Merlan settled in Salina for many years, and although their marriage ultimately ended, their friendship did not. After being an amazing full-time mother, Sherry taught English at Salina Central High School from 1979-1987, and upon completion of her master’s degree from K-State, continued to work for the district as a counselor. After finishing her Ph.D. in 1995, she worked as a counselor in the student health center at Oklahoma State University. When she returned to Kansas a few years later, she worked as a clinical counselor in Salina, taught counselor education at Emporia State University, and worked as an elementary school counselor for the Topeka school district. Sherry leaves behind her daughter Kim Luce and son-in-law Chad Luce of Lawrence; her son Eric Almquist and daughter-in-law Jiffy Iuen of Los Angeles; her ex-husband Merlan Almquist of Athens, Ohio; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Seaman of Emporia, her brother Tracy Seaman of Chapman, and her beloved sister Merry Jo Cecil of Houston. Visitation will be at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Chapman on February 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by burial at Indian Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Heart of America Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, or the Avant Fund at Neuvant House Lawrence, where Sherry received loving care for the last four years.
