Obituary | James E. Haskins of Formoso, Kansas | Melby Mortuary

May 1, 1958 - August 8, 2022

James E. Haskins, 64 years of age, entered into rest on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.  He was born on May 1, 1958 in Concordia, Kansas to Eugene and Lois June (Young) Haskins.

On November 14, 1987 he married Michelle M. Sanders in Concordia, Kansas. 

James was a 1976 graduate of Courtland High School, Courtland, Kansas.  He received a degree in automotive repair from NCKAVTS Beloit Campus, Beloit, Kansas.

James grew up on the family farm where he helped with the farming and kept all the equipment running mechanically.  Then he worked for Bohnert Gas Station, 81 Market, Krier Mower and Electric, all of Concordia; then moving to Formoso to own and operate The Barn around 1996; then while working for the City of Formoso where he was instrumental in the water line project completion.  He worked for the Republic County Rural Water District #1 and later as an auto mechanic from his home.

James had a strong faith in God and family.

James' hobbies included writing and playing music on the piano, tinkering with small engines, his hot rod, taking his grandchildren on four-wheeler rides and hanging out in the shop with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Michelle “Shelly” Haskins, Formoso, KS; daughter Courtney Bobby, Aberdeen, SD; son Corey Haskins (Kristina), Nickerson, KS; son Kyle Haskins, Formoso, KS; five grandchildren, Jacob Bobby, Emma Bobby, Jensen Haskins, Carter Haskins and Kashlynn Haskins; brother Robert Haskins (Rhonda), Broomfield, CO; sister Connie Butts (Steve), Jewell, KS; sister Charlotte Seybold (Calvin), Republic, KS; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 1-8 p.m. at the Melby Mortuary with the family receiving friends from 6-8 pm.

James selected cremation and a Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Melby Mortuary, 402 N. High St., Mankato, KS 66956 with Dwight Garman officiating.  Burial of the cremains will follow at the Balch Cemetery, Formoso, KS.
