Curtis Dean Hall, 62, of Inman, Kansas passed away Friday, July 22nd 2022 at his son's home. Curtis was born in McPherson, Kansas on December 9, 1959, a son of Leota (Morland) and Dewain Hall. Curtis attended the Wickersham grade school, McPherson, Hutchinson schools and graduated from Nickerson High School, Nickerson, Kansas. Through the years Curtis worked for Grady Foundries; Straweavers as a supervisor; Underground Vaults and Storage as a truck driver driving films for Warner Brothers to storage; Hospira as a pharmaceutical assistant; and he owned and operated L.T.J. Maintenance for 2 and 1/2 years in North Carolina along with his brother Clark until his unexpected death; and for Seimens as a material coordinator until his health would not permit him to work. Curtis was always a family man first and foremost. He loved fishing, fishing, fishing ..., hunting, camping, and anything outdoors. He was very reliable and brutally honest and stubborn but he had the biggest heart and was one of the hardest working men. Curtis Dean Hall was united in marriage to Robin W. Nakamura October 10, 2003 in Texas. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of over eighteen years, Robin Nakamura, of Inman, Kansas; their children Jesse Hall, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Christopher Hall and his wife Jaime, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Hunter Hall and wife Holly, of Lakeville, Minnesota, Summer Sutton and husband Ronnie, of Mabank, Texas, and Carlton Jones, of Midway, Texas; his sisters Dana LaGrange and husband Robert, of Hutchinson, Kansas and Deean Hall and partner Claudia Noyes, of Belton, Missouri; their six grandchildren Hannah, Riley, Brooklynn, Jackson, Grace and Amelia; a great-grandson, Obsidian; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Leota and Dewain Hall; brothers Dewain, Jr. "Stinky", Daniel Hall and Clark Lee Moore. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1st 2022 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas with Josh Holmes officiating. Final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter in memory of Curtis and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home, 222 West Euclid Street, McPherson, Kansas 67460.

Kathryne Rondella Ansell Shaw was born on July 7, 1974, in El Paso, TX to Ronald Downing and Orpha Kriepe. Kathyrne passed away peacefully on July 24, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Kathryne graduated Andress High School with the class of 1992 and attended some college afterwards. 

On August 8, 2021, she married David Shaw in Navarre, KS. Kathryne worked in sales and jewelry. She was blessed with six children and four grandchildren. Kathryne loved jewelry design, music, and classic muscle cars. 

But more than anything Kathryne loved her family. All her children’s friends were also treated as her own.

Kathryne is survived by her father Ronald Downing and stepmother Sylvia Downing; husband David Shaw; daughters Brittany Downing (Tony Huff) of Arizona, Neveah Shaw, and Jasmine Shaw of White City; sons Kevin Ansell (Molly Mercer) of Navarre, Andrew Ansell (Alexus Barlow-McKenna), and Joshua Lewis all of Herington; grandchildren Elara Huff, Elias Huff and Bryson Hughes; brother Larry Shay; sister Karen Wilson; stepbrother Jesus Benitez; stepsister Annette Benitez Carrillo. Kathryne is also survived by many other family members and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her mother Orpha (Kriepe) Downing and her grandson Mikah Ansell.

Marlene Janet Insley (Rider), 92, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022 at Brookdale Senior Living in Junction City, Kansas. She was born November 26th, 1929 in Topeka, Kansas, daughter of Alvin and Thelma L (Martin) Rider. Marlene grew up in the Topeka area and graduated from Highland Park High School. 

She married Paul (Don) Robert Insley on January 22nd, 1953. Her brother Galen was her best friend, protector, and their close relationship was something to be envious of. She shared many fond memories of their adventures together and how much joy her nieces and nephew brought her.

She met her husband Paul through her best friend Mary. They were married 34 joyful years before he passed. 

She worked for various businesses doing accounting in Junction City. Prior to getting married she spent a year in Alaska and the photographic proof shows she lived her best life. Marlene and Paul traveled a lot and after his passing she continued to travel, visiting all 50 states at least once and several countries. 

She had two beautiful children during their marriage, Kathy Hildebrand and Matthew Insley. Matthew passed unexpectedly in November 1980. Her children were her everything. Marlene volunteered in many capacities in the Junction City area. She was also a member of many organized groups. She was an avid seamstress, and her grandchildren have the matching outfits to prove it. She also had a passion for knitting and crochet. If you knew her, you probably have a handmade washcloth or two.

Marlene and her daughter were very close, and she was very active in her grandchildren’s lives. Kathy will miss just being able to talk to her mom and the way she would ask about the day-to-day goings on and her mom’s ability to simply listen. As her grandson loved to tease her about what she lacked in height, she made up for in heart. She loved her family with all her being. When asked by her granddaughter what advice she would give, she said to love your family. Nothing is more important than your family. During all their vacations, Paul and Marlene always made time to visit family. Kelly, her great-granddaughter, fondly remembers all the fun times she had with Grammi during holidays, birthdays, and family time. Making lemon bars, always running out of gas, back scratches, many holiday gatherings, Shirley Temple movies, canning, gardening, cooking for the farmers, grandma’s house sleepovers, square dancing, family time, line dancing, trips with her two grandchildren, and musicals, are just a few of the fond memories her family, friends, and loved ones will carry with them. Marlene was the epitome of a woman walking in faith. Jesus was the center of her life and we always admired her quiet way of showing her faith to everyone she met. She never quoted scripture to others; she simply lived it daily with her endless generosity and love. She attended the Episcopal church and the Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother and sister-in law Dar, husband, son, grandson-in-law Phillip Glasgow, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Kathrine Hildebrand and husband David, grandchildren Julie Hildebrand-Glasgow, Tod Hildebrand, and great-granddaughter Kelly Glasgow, all of Junction City, nieces (Janet, Ileen, Christy), nephew (Tony), and many other family and friends. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 31st, 5:30-7:30 p. The memorial service is on Monday, August 1st at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Sarah Becker officiating. Dan graduated from Chapman High School with the class of '78 and played football and took gymnastics in high school. He was proud to show his kids that he was still able to run up a tree and do a backflip off of it even many years later. He loved hunting and fishing and was given an award of a master angler from the state of Kansas in 1984. He also enjoyed working in his shop building all different types of things. He worked for the City of Abilene for many years. When his kids were younger he helped coach traveling baseball teams, softball, and AKWC wrestling. Dan is survived by his children Daniel (Bethany) Conard: Trinity and Trevor, Kandi (Michael) Robinson: Jacobi, Jalen, and Jonavin, Heather Elliott: Brayden, Abby, and Leyla, Tyler (Samantha) Degand: Rowan and Wrenley, and Brittany Conard, siblings Diana Langston, Jack Conard, Lynette Scalzi and Lewis Conard.

Mitchell “Mitch” James Bryant, 54, of rural Hope passed away Monday, July 25, 2022. He was born December 18, 1967 in Herington, Kansas the son of Phil and Jo Lynne “Jody” (Riffel) Bryant. 

Mitch grew up in the Hope area, graduated from Hope High School in 1986 and then went on to Salina Vo-Tech. 

He spent his career as a custom carpenter. He enjoyed rodeoing, grilling and the outdoors. He enjoyed teaching his family his craft and spending quality time with them. He was passionate about woodworking especially teaching his kids, as well as hauling his kids to many rodeos. 

Mitch is survived by his children: Chelsea (Ian) Deges of Ensign, Kansas, Shelby (Trenton) Turner along with baby Turner(Arriving August 2022), Kylie Bryant, and Brody Bryant all of Hope, Kansas; his father, Phil (Chris) Bryant of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother Cary (Beth) Bryant of Hope, Kansas; niece Kristy (Jamie) Stover of Abilene and their children MaKenna, Klovis and Tripp and two nephews, Ty Bryant of Abilene and Gus Bryant of Hope; one cousin, Roberta (Blake) Elliot of Hope; and aunts Clarice Shumaker of Kansas City, Kansas and Jan(Ed) Farry of Florida.

Rosalee Mary Steimel, 61, of Salina, Kansas, died July 25, 2022.&nbsp; Rose was born on May 26, 1961, in Ellinwood, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the youngest child of Herman and Waneta Steimel, granddaughter of Martin and Adela Vogel and Adolph and Anna Steimel.

As the youngest of six children, Rose was close to her siblings, nieces, and nephews her entire life.&nbsp; 

She graduated from Claflin High School in 1979 and Barton County Community College with a full tennis scholarship.&nbsp; She earned a B.S. in Business and Data Processing Magna Cum Laude in 1982 as well as a M.B.A. in 1983 from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; In 1991, Rose completed her Ph.D.&nbsp; from Kansas State University in curriculum and instruction within computer science.

Rose was a college professor in computer studies and taught at Fort Hays State University, Marymount College, Benedictine College in Salina, and Kansas Wesleyan University.&nbsp; Throughout the years, she was promoted to professor of computer studies and assistant M.B.A. director.&nbsp; Rose served as chairperson of the Department of Computer Science, chairperson of the Division of Natural Sciences, and served on many faculty and university committees. Rose retired from KWU in 2020 and was named Professor Emeritus in computer studies.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Surviving family include her sister Carol Ahlvers, with her children Leslie (Andrew) Amick, and Nolan (Lindsay) Ahlvers. She is survived by her brother Lyle (Barbara) Steimel, and their children, Jessica Steimel, Adam (Kat) Steimel, Kimberly Steimel, and Dan (Liz) Steimel. She is survived by her sister Sharon Steimel and husband Steve Thomas with their children Kelly (Dave) Lohrmeyer, Eric (Erica) Thomas, and Drew Thomas and wife Mallory Krahn. Her deceased brothers’ children are Della Strait, Pam (Scott) Wiederholt, Deb Steimel (Joe) Clair, Charles (Sarah) Steimel; and Carrie Steimel.&nbsp; She is survived by sister-in-law Lorene Steimel.&nbsp;&nbsp; Also, Rose had 29 great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Steimel, sister-in-law Maridell, brother Glenn Steimel, and brother-in-law David Ahlvers. &nbsp;

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina, KS.&nbsp; A vigil will be held at 9:30 a.m. for a rosary and reflection.&nbsp; Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Salina.

Memorials may be donated in Rose’s name at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina, 67401 and the Congregation of St. Joseph in Concordia, P.O. Box 279, Concordia, KS 66901.&nbsp;

Michael J. Schmiedeler, 69, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 22nd after a short illness. He was surrounded by his two children and his beloved wife of 45 years.

Michael was born on October 13, 1952 in Beloit, Kansas. He was the fifth of five children of Francis E. and Lucille A. (Pahls) Schmiedeler. 

As a child, Mike enjoyed working in his parent’s grocery store in Tipton, Kansas, which was known for their homemade sausage. He carried on the tradition over the years and was known for gifting Der Schmied’s Wurst around Christmas time.

Mike graduated from Marymount College with a bachelor of science in biology and chemistry in 1975. He then continued his education at St Mary’s Hospital where he completed his medical technology training in 1976. He spent most of his career working in the lab at Salina Regional Health Center, eventually becoming the chemistry department supervisor. He retired in 2018.

Mike married Marilyn K. Swenson on December 18, 1976 at First Baptist Church in Salina, Kansas. Their son, Charles Richard was born on May 23, 1977. Their daughter, Regan Ann was born to the Lord on November 23, 1981. Their second daughter, Mykel Kay was born October 9, 1987. 

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved travelling, with Hawaii being his favorite destination, enjoyed cooking/baking and loved his golden retrievers. Mike was also a history enthusiast, especially when it came to World War II and was a KU fan through and through.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Regan, a brother, James Schmiedeler, sister Jeanne Crawford, and his godmother Dorothy Schmiedeler. 

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Charles Schmiedeler (Travis), daughter Mykel Purkapile (Matt), his three grandchildren Rylan Michael Purkapile, Drew Steven Purkapile, and Peyton Kay Purkapile, brother John Schmiedeler (Zoe), brother Thomas Schmiedeler (Barb) and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30th at Ryan Mortuary at 10:00 a.m., followed by a gravesite committal at Gypsum Hill Cemetery. The family will host a reception at First Baptist Church following the services.

Allen Edward Boyer, 84, of Loveland, CO, passed away in the presence of his family on July 21, 2022. Allen was born on July 8, 1938, to Charles and Winona Boyer in Danbury, NE. 

After graduating from Solomon High School in 1956 he spent his summer custom cutting wheat and then joined the Army where he became a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne. After three years in the service, he was honorably discharged. 

In 1965 Allen married his wife of 57 years, Vada Koehn. They raised two children, Tameria Janae (Boyer) Dishman and David Austin Boyer. 

Allen spent 17 years as a brick and stone mason and then worked for Johns Manville where he retired after 20 years. 

Allen loved spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, camping, boating and playing cards. It was an annual event to meet his brothers and nephews on opening day of pheasant season and spend the day together. 

In addition to family he was especially close to his friends Charlie Johnson, Loren Boughman and Steve Marquez.

After retiring in 2004, Allen and Vada moved to Loveland, Colorado where he continued with his favorite pass times, as well as watching Tommy and Braiden participate in sports. Allen and Vada were blessed with making new friends in Colorado and enjoyed spending time with them as well. 

Allen was a dedicated and loving husband, dad and grandad. 

He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Winona (Ruby) Boyer, son David Austin Boyer, siblings Lois Zapp, Ardis Boyer, Enid Zapp, Richard (Dick) Boyer, Charlene Duck, and Ron Boyer. 

He is survived by his wife Vada Boyer, his daughter Tameria Dishman and her husband Barry Dishman, three grandchildren – Chelsea Martin, Tommy Dishman and Braiden Dishman, sister Roberta Garten Johannes, sister-in-law Kathy Boyer, many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Allen was born on July 8, 1938, to Charles and Winona Boyer in Danbury, NE. After graduating from Solomon High School in 1956 he spent his summer custom cutting wheat and then joined the Army where he became a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne. After three years in the service, he was honorably discharged. In 1965 Allen married his wife of 57 years, Vada Koehn. They raised two children, Tameria Janae (Boyer) Dishman and David Austin Boyer. Allen spent 17 years as a brick and stone mason and then worked for Johns Manville where he retired after 20 years. Allen loved spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing, camping, boating and playing cards. It was an annual event to meet his brothers and nephews on opening day of pheasant season and spend the day together. In addition to family he was especially close to his friends Charlie Johnson, Loren Boughman and Steve Marquez. After retiring in 2004, Allen and Vada moved to Loveland, Colorado where he continued with his favorite pass times, as well as watching Tommy and Braiden participate in sports. Allen and Vada were blessed with making new friends in Colorado and enjoyed spending time with them as well. Allen was a dedicated and loving husband, dad and grandad. He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Winona (Ruby) Boyer, son David Austin Boyer, siblings Lois Zapp, Ardis Boyer, Enid Zapp, Richard (Dick) Boyer, Charlene Duck, and Ron Boyer. He is survived by his wife Vada Boyer, his daughter Tameria Dishman and her husband Barry Dishman, three grandchildren – Chelsea Martin, Tommy Dishman and Braiden Dishman, sister Roberta Garten Johannes, sister-in-law Kathy Boyer, many nieces and nephews and many friends. Bryant was born on August 5, 1946, in Hastings, NE, the son of Neil Bryant Andrews, Sr. and Donna Mae (Marymee) Andrews.&nbsp; He graduated high school from Hastings, NE in 1964 and attended the University of Nebraska.&nbsp; 

Bryant was united in marriage to Susan Holt on October 15, 1965, and this union was blessed with two sons, Todd and Tyson.&nbsp; On July 19, 1975, he married Jennifer Zuellner, and this union was blessed with three children, Selena, Kim, and Geoff.

Survivors include four children, Todd Andrews (Kristy) of Las Vegas, NV, Selena Andrews (Ed Webb) of McPherson, KS, Kim Seib (Cody) of Hays, KS, and Geoff Andrews (Valerie) of Salina, KS; brothers Stephen Andrews (Ann) of Montevideo, MN, Bradley Andrews of Waverly, NE, and Scott Andrews of Waverly, NE; aunt Delores Eades of Wichita, KS; and seven grandchildren, Andrew Costello, Jonah Clarke, Elijah Clarke, Reid Andrews, Sutton Seib, Holdyn Seib, and Hudson Seib.

Leon grew up and&nbsp;attended school in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;He served his country in the U.S. Army. Leon received his associate degree from Barton County&nbsp;Community College. He worked in the oilfield for more than 30 years. Leon enjoyed golfing, fishing and&nbsp;riding his Harley.

Janet Lynne Reedy Droge, 63, died peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at her home in Topeka, Kansas, attended by loved ones.&nbsp; She died of complications of metastatic ovarian cancer.

She was born January 27, 1959 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Leonard and Judy (Mahon) Reedy, the oldest of six children and the only daughter.&nbsp; She attended first grade at the Hollis, Kansas country school, followed by Our Lady of Perpetual Help parochial school until the 6th&nbsp;grade. She was a member of the Hollis Hustlers 4-H club for ten years.&nbsp; She enjoyed piano lessons at the Nazareth Motherhouse.&nbsp; She was involved in drama club, French club, and took a semester of woodworking her senior year of high school.

She graduated from Concordia High School, Concordia, Kansas, as the salutatorian, in January of 1977, and attended Kansas State University for the next year. She participated in the KSU Summer Study Abroad Program and went to France for the summer of 1977.

She married David H. Droge at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, on April 21, 1978.&nbsp; The couple made their first home in Blue Rapids, Kansas, where two sons, Brian and Jacob, were born.&nbsp; Together David and Janet founded the manufacturing company TravAlong Inc, of Waterville, KS. They retired after the sale of the business in 1991, and lived in Manhattan, Kansas, where she enjoyed studying and applying apparel design and interior design. The couple later divorced on January 2, 2002.

Janet went on to develop a new career post-divorce.&nbsp; She first went to Hutchinson Community College for the building trades vocational program.&nbsp; She returned to Topeka, and enrolled at Washburn University where she completed two bachelor’s degrees, accounting and social work, summa cum laude, in 2006.&nbsp; She completed her master’s degree in social work at the University of Kansas in May of 2008.&nbsp; 

She practiced as an LSCSW psychotherapist in a variety of settings, including Valeo Behavioral Healthcare of Topeka, the TBI clinic at Ft. Riley, Pawnee Mental Health in Concordia, Belleville, and Beloit, the women’s prison in Topeka, Stormont Vail Healthcare, Topeka, KS, and as a crisis responder on the Veteran’s Administration hotline. She specialized in the treatment of PTSD.

From June 2018 until mid-2021 Janet enjoyed an early retirement to pursue her lifelong dream of renovating an old house. Those who knew her well were amused by her addiction to DIY YouTube videos. She derived enormous happiness and satisfaction from being able to do such things as roofing, window replacement, plumbing, refinishing floors, and building a new kitchen from the walls out.

She is survived by her partner (Mr.) Terry Kramer, Goff, KS; two sons, Brian James Droge, El Dorado, KS; Jacob Daniel Droge, Topeka, KS; her mother Judy Reedy, Concordia, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;five brothers, James (Connie) Reedy, Concordia, KS; Dennis (Donna) Reedy, Concordia, KS; Steve Reedy, Plano, TX,&nbsp; Robert Reedy, Wichita, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;Joseph (Karen) Reedy, Concordia, KS;&nbsp; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gregory “Greg” John Wiesner, age 63, of Concordia, KS, died peacefully on Friday, July 22, 2022 surrounded by loving family at his home in Concordia.&nbsp;

He was born on April 26, 1959 in Hays, KS to Marvin Rudolph &amp; Josephine Martina (Pfeifer) Wiesner. He met his high school sweetheart, Kim, at the Drive-In shortly before graduating from Concordia High School in 1977.

He married Kimberely “Kim” Briggs on April 28, 1979 and built a life they loved. They had fun living the young married life before welcoming Danielle JoAnn in 1985 and David John in 1990. Greg and Kim were always willing to jump in and lend a hand where there was a need, whether it be their kids, family, friends, or even random strangers. Their marriage and parenting epitomized having a Servant’s Heart. They were a team and best friends until the end. Greg lived by God’s Golden Rule and was known for saying simply, “It’s what we do.”

An avid craftsman, Greg, along with his father and brothers, created Wiesner Brothers in 1977.&nbsp; He then owned and operated Greg Wiesner Construction for over 40 years. He loved hiring kids throughout the area for summer jobs and made a huge impact on many young lives. Their motto was “We Build Value” and Greg prided himself on his dedication to building quality around the community.

Greg loved to spend time with his family and friends at their trailer at Lovewell Lake and at his shop for ‘Thursday Shop Night’. Greg enjoyed working on and rebuilding cars with his friends. He loved going to swap meets with the boys to find old car parts and they even built a one-of-a-kind rat rod. He enjoyed regular trips to go skiing in Colorado and was a long time member of the Skiyota Ski Club.&nbsp; He also loved family time with his kids but was most proud to be a papa to his grandchildren! From swimming with Lizzy, having fun at the lake with Charlotte, sharing special rocks with Asher, to singing songs to baby Kate, he adored spending time with them.

Greg was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2017 and courageously battled “lewy” taking over his mind and body. With his wife by his side, he was able to continue to provide value in his community by cleaning up the downtown and using his favorite Milwaukee blower. He was known in later years for his sweet baby songs and his quality dishwashing abilities. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his ear wiggling and ornery smile.

His conviction, paired with kindness, is a quality greatly needed in this world. The impact Greg made in lives will continue to ripple through the water for generations to come.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Cloud County Ducks Unlimited, Jaycees, Optimist Club, Concordia Country Club, original member of Jimmy’s Hot Rod Shop, a founding member of Twin Coves Investment Club, a founding member of the Community Foundation for Cloud County, and an enthusiastic member of Skiyota Ski Club.

He is survived by his wife, Kim, Concordia; daughter, Danielle &amp; Josh Freeborn, Concordia; son, David Wiesner, Concordia; grandchildren, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Asher &amp; Katelyn; his mother, Josephine Wiesner, Concordia; Siblings: Jean &amp; Lonnie Bachand, Concordia,&nbsp; Robert &amp; Dawn Wiesner, Dallas, Texas; Jerry &amp; Joan Wiesner, Concordia; Brian &amp; Linda Wiesner, Oviedo, Florida; and Annie &amp; Dennis Bergmann, Concordia, brothers-in-law, Michael D. Hillman, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Michael &amp; Kelly Briggs, Hercules, California, sister-in-law Vicki &amp; Andy Roche, Junction City; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends that made his life full.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin; sisters, Ellen Wiesner, and Ruth Hillman, and parents-in-law, Max and Betty Briggs.

Clayton Lyle Zook, 79, passed on to his eternal home July 21, 2022. The oldest of six children, Lyle was born to Clyde and Mabel (Lenhert) Zook in Abilene, Kansas on March 16, 1943. 

He grew up in Dickinson County where he always lived on a farm and learned to work at a very young age. He was plowing by age six and, with the sheriff’s approval, hauled his first load of wheat at age eleven. In upper grade school through high school he was also a part of the family turkey and cattle businesses. Lyle began his education in Moonlight’s one-room school. He also attended schools in Detroit, Talmage, and Chapman, completing high school in 1961. He started driving a school bus when he was a freshman. Always having a tender heart towards the Lord, Lyle understood the plan of salvation and gave his heart and life to Jesus at a young age. He endeavored to live a dedicated Godly life for his savior. A lifelong member of the Brethren in Christ Church, he spent two years of alternate service at the Life Line Mission in San Francisco. In this capacity he picked up donations, gave mission guests tours, helped to prepare and serve up to 100 meals each evening and served as bouncer for the evening service. He also transported youth and was greatly involved in ministry to them. Lyle was also called upon to do numerous maintenance jobs at two mission sites. It was in this capacity that he met the love of his life. He and Molly Ann Pool were married December 4, 1964. In 1966 Lyle returned with his bride to Kansas to farm and raise turkeys in partnership with his father. That same year they became the parents of Karen Joy. Two years later son Kenneth John joined the family on Christmas Day. From 1973 until 2009, he, with Molly, were foster parents to over 120 children - some for a day, but most for months to years. Regardless of the time spent in their home, each child was important and loved. Lyle is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Mabel Zook, great-grandson Harding Shumate, and brother-in-law Ron Garver.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Molly, as well as his children Karen (Mike) Corl and Kenneth (Ronda) Zook; grandchildren Jeffrey Zook, Allie Zook, Jason Zook, Andrea (Darrin) Shumate, Janessa Zook, Levi Zook, Andrew Corl (David), Aaron (Jesse) Corl, Anna (J.T.) Brantley, Abigail Corl; and great-grandchildren Hadlee Shumate, J.L. and Allyssa Brantley; Brothers Verle (Katy), Marlin (Connie), and Leon (Bette) Zook, sisters Lavina Garver and Susan (Duane) Schiffbauer, one aunt, Lola Zook, numerous cousins and their spouses, and the many foster children he loved dearly. A memorial service to celebrate Lyle’s homecoming will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday July 29 at the Abilene Brethren in Christ Church with pastors Dale Engle and Stan Norman officiating. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 28 at the Abilene Brethren in Christ Church, 11th and Buckeye, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
