&nbsp;Marlene Fae (Schettler) Dalrymple, age 79, died Monday, February 21, 2022 at her home in Cawker City, Kansas. She was born July 4, 1942 to John and Agatha Schettler. Marlene was the fifth of six children. She attended school in Halliday, North Dakota and graduated in 1960.

Marlene married Joseph Senger, January 2, 1962, in Manning, North Dakota.&nbsp; They had four sons: Joseph Jr. (Joe), John, Jerald (Jerry), and Jay.

In 1974, Marlene married Jerry Dalrymple in Jewell, Kansas.&nbsp; Together, along with Marlene’s sons, they traveled across many states working on a custom harvesting crew.

In 2004, Marlene married Roger Ives in Beloit, Kansas. They moved to Bismarck, North Dakota for several years, so Marlene could be close to her siblings and family. In 2018, they moved to Cawker City, Kansas to enjoy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marlene loved spending time with her grandchildren, attending many of their sporting events, teaching them how to play cards, doing puzzles and cooking. She made the best caramel rolls ever! Marlene had a wonderful laugh that would brighten any room. She loved playing cribbage, pinochle and pitch with all of her family and friends at get togethers, especially with her sons.&nbsp;

Marlene was a member of the Beloit VFW Auxiliary and the Glen Elder Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Agatha Schettler, sister Kay and brother-in-law Don Voigt, brother Delbert and sister-in-law Katherine (Kay) Schettler, and brother-in-law Donald Sorensen.

Marlene is lovingly remembered by her husband Roger Ives; children Joe (Jerri) Senger, John (Tina) Senger, Jerry (Carla) Senger and Jay Senger, Connie Ives and Tina (Terry) Malek; grandchildren Sierra Senger and Nathan Saint, Shelby Senger, Brittney (Andy) Miller, Jake Senger, Lindsay (Erin) Mellies, Nicolas (Catie) Mellies and Tucker Senger; great-grandchildren Anthony Enneking, Kinley Miller, Rory and Ella Mellies, Trey and Walker Mellies; sisters Jacqueline Sorensen and Carole (Louis) Treiber; and brother Jerry (Anne) Schettler.&nbsp; She will be lovingly remembered by many devoted nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at Roberts Family Funeral Service, 910 N. Campbell, Beloit, Kansas on Saturday, February 26th, 2022. Family will greet friends at 9 a.m. with the service starting at 10 a.m.,Pastor Cody Fears officiating.

Merle W. Schmidt age 82, (formerly of Chapman) passed away at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan on February 21, 2022. Merle was born on October 3, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Carl O. and May A. (Ruhnke) Schmidt. He attended Carry Creek Grade School and was a 1957 graduate of DCCHS in Chapman and attended Kansas State University before returning to the family farm in rural Chapman to help his father raise Herford cattle, and grains. Along with farming Merle owned Town and Country Speed and Custom Shop in Junction City. The family then moved to the family farm full time in 1966. Merle married Sharon “Kay” Bigham of Milford on December 8, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma. They were the parents of three children, Daniel, Jana, and Raelynn. Merle and his family raised nationally recognized purebred Yorkshire swine. They won many state and national shows and had many return customers. As a pork producer, he was very active promoting the pork industry with membership in local, state, and national organizations. They also established Liberty Landing Farms for their Quarter Horse Corporation. When not farming and raising swine, Merle loved flying. His lifetime wish was to be a pilot. Merle is survived by his wife Kay, daughters Jana Howser, Raelynn Schmidt, granddaughter Holly (Marshall) Hageman, and a great-grandson Wade Hageman.

He was preceded in death by his son Daniel, son-in-law Larry Lyne, sister Joyce Brown, brother-in-law Kenneth Bingham, and his parents. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Milford Cemetery with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral chapel in Chapman.

She worked as a beautician, waitress at the Moose Lodge but was most proud of her work as a dispatcher for Workman Transport, Inc.&nbsp; She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Concordia and a former member of the Ladies of the Moose #1428.&nbsp; She and Jim loved to travel the country and she was a big KU basketball, KC Chiefs and Nascar fan.

She is survived by her husband Jim Workman, Concordia, KS; daughters Mary Walker (Ronnie), Concordia, KS and Crystal Perrin, (Lance Salazar), Concordia, KS; grandchildren Stephanie Ryals (Jerrod), Christopher Walker (Jessica), Colton Halfhide, Ciara Halfhide, Riley Halfhide (fiancé Josie Czpanskiy) and Ariana Perrin; great-grandchildren Paxton, Gavyn, Landon and Brooklyn Ryals, Serenity Walker, Peacelyn Walker and Khalani Jo; sister Betty Menor (Tom), Poyne, AR and special friends Sharalyn Coke and Sharon Roy.

Helen married Cleo U. Finch in June of 1939. They were longtime residents of the Natoma, KS area where they raised their four children.

Helen is survived by her sons Dennis Finch (Carol) of Union City, OK and Doug Finch (Tracy Pfeifer) of Salina, KS; grandchildren Darren Houdeshell, Diahann Suchan (Jeff), Donovan Finch (Lisa), Steven Finch (Jordan), Darcy Couse (Justin), Denyse Kattenberg (David), and Dayna Weltmer (Tim); great-grandchildren Dustin Finch, Destiny Byers, Dylan Houdeshell, Andrew and Danielle Suchan, Brady Finch, Dharma and Dayton Couse, Dakota and Dominick Kattenberg, and Deklynn, Drake, Darris, and Dayvie Weltmer; and great-great grandchildren Easton, Wells, Harley, and Clara.

Faryl Marlene McDill Lange was born on September 19, 1932, northwest of Mankato, Kansas, to Raymond Alma McDill and Ruth May Underwood McDill. She departed her earthly life on February 20, 2022, at the Jewell County Hospital ISB, Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 89 years. 

Faryl was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Paul Lange on December 12, 2021; parents, grandparents; grandson Christopher Alyn Railsback; and sister-in-law Eilene McDill.

Faryl attended school in Mankato except for her 3rd&nbsp;and 4th&nbsp;grades at Enterprise District #26 in Limestone Township.&nbsp; She graduated from Mankato High school in May of 1950 as valedictorian of her class.&nbsp; 

After graduation, she began work as the secretary at the Mankato School District superintendent’s office for two years.&nbsp; She then worked at the Jewell-Mitchell REC. &nbsp;

In the early 1950s Faryl joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato, Kansas.&nbsp; She married Raymond Paul Lange on April 23, 1955 at the church. &nbsp;In 1958 Faryl began her years as a stay-at-home mother.&nbsp; She performed babysitting duties for several children during those years.&nbsp; In 1971 she returned to work at Jewell-Mitchell REC and worked there until her retirement in 1994.

During her youth she helped look after her brothers.&nbsp; She helped with milking cows and feeding the turkeys.&nbsp; She was a member of the Mankato Eager Beavers 4-H Club and had projects at the county and state fairs.&nbsp; She continued to be involved in later years by serving as a superintendent at the fair and taking items to display.&nbsp; She attended many 4-H events for her grandchildren and served as Chelsey’s clothing construction project leader.&nbsp; She took piano lessons from Berniece Scott and encouraged her daughters to take piano lessons.&nbsp; Faryl spent many days suggesting ideas for play activities, listening to piano songs, and teaching the girls about sewing.&nbsp; She welcomed her father-in-law Paul Lange to live with the family for three years.

Faryl was interested in family genealogy and began researching her family history in the late 1960s.&nbsp; She traced her mother’s ancestry to a Revolutionary Solider, Nathan Wood, and with proven records was able to join the Desire Tobey Sears Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on October 13, 1972.&nbsp; She served in many positions of the chapter and the northwest district including eleven years as chapter Regent.&nbsp; She was the secretary/treasurer of the Cole-Lumpkin-Underwood Reunion which started in 1932 and continues today.&nbsp; She attended many of these picnics over the last 89 years and was always interested in adding to the record books.&nbsp; She continued to explore other family lines and Jewell County history throughout her life.&nbsp; With her passing, a wealth of knowledge about the area is gone.

Faryl was very active in her community.&nbsp; She served as the county recruitment chairman of the Jewell County Bloodmobile, member and officer of Modern Minerva, volunteered at the Jewell County Long-Term Care for bingo and organized programs for Tuesday Happenings, and volunteered at the Thrift Shop to name just a few of her volunteer services.&nbsp; She was president of the Mankato High School Alumni Association, a Girl Scout leader, member of the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary 7830 and served in many capacities including president and treasurer, member of the Mankato Garden Club, the Jewell County Historical Society, and the Jewell American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughters Corlene Lange, Barbara Railsback, and Janelle Greene; sons-in-law Burton Railsback and Scott Greene; grandchildren Matt Railsback and wife Allison, Chelsey Greene, Corbin Greene, and Allison Railsback; great grandchildren Sawyer Railsback and Savannah Railsback; brothers Marvin McDill and Mahlon McDill; sister-in-law Phyllis Lange; nephews Richard Sholtz, Mike Metzler, Landon McDill and niece Nickia McDill Vance, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and many cousins.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato with Pastor Dennis Beckmann officiating and Irene Ortman, musician. &nbsp;Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Melby Mortuary, Mankato, with family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Casket bearers are her grandchildren Corbin Greene, Matthew Railsback, Chelsey Greene, and Allison Railsback, niece Nickia Vance, and nephews Richard Sholtz, Mike Metzler and Landon McDill. &nbsp;

Robin was born in Oakland, Maryland on March 6, 1956, a son of Iva May (VanMeter) and Charles William Fickes. Robin attended schools in Oakland, Maryland. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in McPherson. Through the years Robin worked as a truck driver for 12 years, a mechanic for 25 years for Moody Oil and Becker Tire, McPherson, Kansas and McPherson Backhoe as a line locator, Conway, Kansas. Robin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, his dogs, woodworking, gardening, his Jeep, loved mowing his yard and spending time with his friends and family. Robin Fickes was united in marriage to Jolene Diane Holmes on April 21, 1978 in Clay Center, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Clay Center. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, two sons and a daughter, Jeremy, Kimberly and Wesley. Donald R. “Don” Hatfield, 95 of Clay Center, died Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp; Don was born on September 30, 1926 in Clay Center, the son of Nellie (Fitzgarrald) Hatfield and Edward Thomas Hatfield, the next to the youngest of eight siblings; three boys and five girls.

Don attended Lincoln and McKinley grade schools and quit high school in his junior year to try and help with the war effort in some way.&nbsp; With no luck of getting a job, he entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served through 1946.

Upon returning to Clay Center, Don then finished his schooling on the G.I. Bill, graduating from CCCHS with the class of 1947.&nbsp; He was proud of his service to his country and his membership in the American Legion Post #227 at Clifton, where he was a member since 1951.

Don was united in marriage to Valda Jean Bloom on January 27, 1948 in Clay Center.&nbsp; To this union, three children were born: Thomas A., William L. and Iris Jean.&nbsp; Iris Jean only lived for four days and died of complications of parental blood factors.&nbsp; The couple lived in Kansas, Iowa and Illinois before returning to Clay Center in 1986.&nbsp; Valda preceded him in death on November 9, 2017.

After graduating and going to work for Livengood Motors, he also joined the local National Guard Unit and served two years as a corporal in a machine gun platoon.&nbsp; He then became employed at the Northern Natural Gas Company in Clifton.&nbsp; After a few years, Don took advantage of some job opportunities being offered within the company and at the time of his retirement, he was maintenance supervisor of a large liquid storage field at Morris, Illinois.&nbsp; Don accepted early retirement after 36 years on January 1, 1986.

Don was a member of the Clay Center Christian Church, served as the 4th&nbsp;ward councilman for six years and then the mayor of Clay Center from 1993 through 1995.&nbsp; He was also a member of the B.P.O.E., Clay County Task Force on Aging, the Clay Center Leisure Club Senior Center; serving as treasurer for many years and volunteered with Friendship Meals for many years.

In addition to his wife, Valda and daughter, Iris Jean, Don was also preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings: brothers James and Earl and sisters Juanita, Maxine, Ruth, Irene and Mary Ellen.

He is survived by his two sons Thomas of Midland, TX and William and wife, Jackie of Rockford, IL; grandchildren Stacie Hatfield of Midland, TX and Angelina Carrasco of South Bend, Indiana; Jesse Hatfield of Des Moines, IA, Justin Hatfield, of Rockford, IL and Joy Olson of Rockford, IL.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 27 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home chapel in Clay Center, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home chapel in Clay Center, Kansas.

Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.

For 102 years the people who knew and loved her were blessed by Mabel’s presence on this earth. Mabel Erline Patterson passed from this life on February 17, 2022 in Kearney with family by her side. Private family graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence, KS. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Mabel was born at her parents’ home in Florence, Kansas, on May 13, 1919 and was the first child of Elmer and Irene (Bowlby) Johnson. Her siblings were LaVere and Jim. She spent her early life in the small town of Florence, graduating from Florence High School in 1937 where she was part of the “Wicked Five,” a group of fun-loving girls known for their youthful antics. She married John Martin in a double wedding ceremony with good friends Charles (Chuck) and Lenora (Pankratz) Graham on September 30, 1939 in Florence. In the spring of 1940 John was killed in a car accident and the following October their son John was born.

In Florence she served the Methodist Church as treasurer, worked at Kansas Power and Light company and worked in her parents’ business, Johnson’s Variety Store. She also worked for a short time as a “parts runner” at the Great Bend, Kansas Army Airfield during World War II. On April 14, 1946, she married James Howard (Pat) Patterson who was a widower with a young son, James (Jim) Jr. The family made their home in Arkansas City, Kansas, moving to El Dorado, Kansas in the late 1940s. Their daughter, Barbara Jean was born there. Pat worked as an auto parts man at Barnes Motor and later as the auto parts manager for McClure Motor Company. Mabel was a homemaker and worked at the El Dorado High School cafeteria and sold Avon. In 1974 they moved to Great Bend, Kansas, where Pat worked for Standish Ford. He passed away in 1984. Mabel moved to Fremont, Nebraska in 1986 to help her daughter and son-in-law with their children which included newborn twins. In 1987 she moved to Kearney when Jean’s family moved there. Mabel was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and cook. She was well known for her chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, sweet pickles and pickle relish.

 She volunteered in each church she was a member of and you could always find her in the kitchen helping prepare for wedding receptions, church potlucks, funeral dinners, etc. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered many hours for Legion activities, including cemetery flag placement. 

She and Pat loved camping and spent many happy days with friends who enjoyed the same - Kenneth &amp;and Frances Hurd, Abe and Zena Martin, Elmer and Norma Davis, Noel and Martha Talkington and many others. She and Pat were members of the Bluestem Campers and Good Sam camping clubs. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was very independent and wanted to do for herself as much as possible. She was always concerned for her family and other people and tried to help wherever and whenever she could.

She lived on her own until breaking a hip in April, 2018. In July, 2018 she moved to Homestead Assisted Living and after breaking the other hip in November, 2018 she moved to Mother Hull Home where she was lovingly cared for. She celebrated her 100th birthday at Mother Hull Home with friends and family in May, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, her brother and sister, her son Jim; and daughter-in-law Sheila Patterson. Survivors include children John L. Patterson, Jean and Jake Jacobson; daughter-in-law Carol Patterson; grandchildren Mike Patterson, Megan Patterson, Briana Patterson and her children Annabella and James, Benjamin Jacobson, Amy Jacobson, and Connor Jacobson. Mabel Erline Patterson passed from this life on February 17, 2022 in Kearney with family by her side. Private family graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence, KS. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Mabel was born at her parents’ home in Florence, Kansas, on May 13, 1919 and was the first child of Elmer and Irene (Bowlby) Johnson. Her siblings were LaVere and Jim. She spent her early life in the small town of Florence, graduating from Florence High School in 1937 where she was part of the “Wicked Five,” a group of fun-loving girls known for their youthful antics. She married John Martin in a double wedding ceremony with good friends Charles (Chuck) and Lenora (Pankratz) Graham on September 30, 1939 in Florence. In the spring of 1940 John was killed in a car accident and the following October their son John was born. In Florence she served the Methodist Church as treasurer, worked at Kansas Power and Light company and worked in her parents’ business, Johnson’s Variety Store. She also worked for a short time as a “parts runner” at the Great Bend, Kansas Army Airfield during World War II. With the passing of&nbsp;Joan Ruth Totten Seim Kogler&nbsp;on Feb 19, 2022, (age 84) we lost a kindred spirit, infectious smile, bright eyes that could see through anything and anybody, an engaging wit, and compassionate friend who was more interested in helping others than herself.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by her brother Wayne Totten, d.1945; mother Ester Gentry Totten, d.1952; father Harry Totten, d.1957; first husband Gale Seim, d.1959; stepmother Alvina Schwartz Totten, d.1986; sister Jean Totten Huff, d. 2003; and second husband Stan Kogler, d.2020.

Joan was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on December 22, 1937.&nbsp; Her family moved to Udall, Kansas when she was three following her grandfather who was a Methodist minister.&nbsp; They soon relocated to Gypsum, KS. where her father found work as a prison guard in the Falun WWII prison camp.&nbsp; Those “dumb-assed boys” of Gypsum never knew what hit them from third grade on!

Joan grew up quick when her mother lost her life on the operating table at the young age of 44.&nbsp; Joan, only 15, she had to be “mom” to younger sister Jean, and homemaker for the family.&nbsp; To help make ends meet, she made their clothes, becoming an excellent seamstress, even teaching 4-H sewing later in life.&nbsp; She also helped the Ade’s process chickens for the Abilene Hospital, even to the point of chopping off the chickens heads and fully dressing them!&nbsp; She graduated from Gypsum High school as valedictorian of her class, was a cheerleader, baton twirler, played both the bass and snare drums and was rarely challenged in ping-pong during her lunch hour!

Soon after high school she married Gale Seim and bore two children, Larry of Southport, NC, and Pam of Steamboat Springs, CO.&nbsp; The tragic farm tractor death of Gale left Joan a widow at age 21.&nbsp; 

Fortunately for the young family, a great friend, Stan Kogler, came to their rescue and married Joan, raising her kids, and their own son, Duane of Vancouver, WA.

With their children all graduating from college and pursuing their own careers, Stan and Joan continued living on the farm near Kipp, KS for over 60 years.&nbsp; During that time, along with farming, they ran a successful country electrical and plumbing business, with Stan providing the knowledge and labor, and Joan “doing the books.”&nbsp; Not engaging enough for Joan, she also worked as a legal secretary, drove the kids’ school bus, and of course, was an excellent homemaker and cook.&nbsp; Her cinnamon rolls and pies were used to bribe Stan to do work on “their” house and delight the kids’ college friends and hunting buddies!&nbsp;

Joan also had a love for drawing and drafted the family’s country home.&nbsp; That led to an interest in artistic painting and she learned several types, but thoroughly enjoyed oil painting.&nbsp; Stan had given her painting lessons and even converted the home’s one car garage to a painting studio where she perfected her craft and even taught classes. Her work was published in local newspapers/mags and exhibited in fairs, where she won several awards, including Wheat Hearts Lifetime Achievement award.&nbsp; Over a 40 year period, she recreated over 100 renderings and detailed over 300 porcelain “Santas” she gave as gifts to family and friends.&nbsp;

Her love for painting and her painting friends took her around the country attending workshops, with favorite experiences being Canyon de Chelly, AZ and 4WD jeep rides around Ouray, CO.&nbsp; Her travels also developed an interest in diverse nativity sets and she amassed over 500 pieces, many from her painting friends and family, that she would display in her home and decorate her Christmas tree.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Some of her favorite memories were attending athletic events of her kids and family vacations to Indiana, Colorado and California, and of course visiting her kids and grand-kids living in Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, California, Connecticut, Washington, Colorado and North Carolina.&nbsp; She also enjoyed her 50th wedding anniversary when the kids surprised her with a family cruise through the inside passage of Alaska.

Joan lived a full life, despite numerous family deaths in her early years, and struggles later with heart condition and diabetes that limited her mobility.&nbsp; But her memory and vision were exceptional right until the end, and the family was able to reminisce personally and via Facetime many great memories.&nbsp; She will be missed by family and friends here on earth, but looks forward to seeing all of those that preceded her, hoping that Gale and Stan will be fighting for her affection!&nbsp;

Joan leaves behind son Larry of Southport, NC, daughter-in-law Laura and grandchildren Michael and Meredith Smith (Michael); daughter Pam Beardmore of Steamboat Springs CO, son-in-law David, grandchild Allison Nash (Ben) and great-grandchildren Charli, Kimbal and Sloane; grandchildren Madison and Emily; son Duane of Vancouver, WA, daughter-in-law Karen, and grandchildren Mathew, Daniel and Katie; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina, KS. Burial will be in the Gypsum City Cemetery, Gypsum, KS. Friends may call at the Ryan Mortuary on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 4 until 8 p.m. that evening where the family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m.

She was preceded in death by her brother Wayne Totten, d.1945; mother Ester Gentry Totten, d.1952; father Harry Totten, d.1957; first husband Gale Seim, d.1959; stepmother Alvina Schwartz Totten, d.1986; sister Jean Totten Huff, d. 2003; and second husband Stan Kogler, d.2020.Joan was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on December 22, 1937.&nbsp; Her family moved to Udall, Kansas when she was three following her grandfather who was a Methodist minister.&nbsp; They soon relocated to Gypsum, KS. where her father found work as a prison guard in the Falun WWII prison camp.&nbsp; Those “dumb-assed boys” of Gypsum never knew what hit them from third grade on!Joan grew up quick when her mother lost her life on the operating table at the young age of 44.&nbsp; Joan, only 15, she had to be “mom” to younger sister Jean, and homemaker for the family.&nbsp; To help make ends meet, she made their clothes, becoming an excellent seamstress, even teaching 4-H sewing later in life.&nbsp; She also helped the Ade’s process chickens for the Abilene Hospital, even to the point of chopping off the chickens heads and fully dressing them!&nbsp; She graduated from Gypsum High school as valedictorian of her class, was a cheerleader, baton twirler, played both the bass and snare drums and was rarely challenged in ping-pong during her lunch hour!Soon after high school she married Gale Seim and bore two children, Larry of Southport, NC, and Pam of Steamboat Springs, CO.&nbsp; The tragic farm tractor death of Gale left Joan a widow at age 21.&nbsp; Fortunately for the young family, a great friend, Stan Kogler, came to their rescue and married Joan, raising her kids, and their own son, Duane of Vancouver, WA.With their children all graduating from college and pursuing their own careers, Stan and Joan continued living on the farm near Kipp, KS for over 60 years.&nbsp; During that time, along with farming, they ran a successful country electrical and plumbing business, with Stan providing the knowledge and labor, and Joan “doing the books.”&nbsp; Not engaging enough for Joan, she also worked as a legal secretary, drove the kids’ school bus, and of course, was an excellent homemaker and cook.&nbsp; Her cinnamon rolls and pies were used to bribe Stan to do work on “their” house and delight the kids’ college friends and hunting buddies!&nbsp;Joan also had a love for drawing and drafted the family’s country home.&nbsp; That led to an interest in artistic painting and she learned several types, but thoroughly enjoyed oil painting.&nbsp; Stan had given her painting lessons and even converted the home’s one car garage to a painting studio where she perfected her craft and even taught classes. Myrna Smith passed away Feb. 17th at the age of 99 years and 2 days. She was born Feb. 15th, 1923, in Miltonvale, Kansas to Ed and Blanche (Fosdick) Paronto.

At the age of five, the family moved to Wakeeney, Kansas and resided there until 1939 and then returned to Miltonvale, Kansas. Myrna graduated from Miltonvale Rural High school in 1942, then continued her education at Brown Mackie College. 

She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator until 1953. During this time of employment, Myrna was introduced to her husband, Charley Smith, a lineman also employed by SWB. Myrna also worked for a lumber company in Salina, as well as Wyatt Manufacturing and Great Plains Manufacturing. After retiring, she continued part time employment at these locations: Salina Regional Health Center formerly known as Asbury Hospital, YWCA and KACCRRA.

She enjoyed playing softball for company teams and bowling at state tournaments. One of her greatest hobbies was sewing, in which she sewed many of her own clothes as well as clothes for her son, wife and granddaughters, making several of the granddaughters' formal dresses. Myrna also loved to garden, making the best pickles around.

Myrna is survived by her only son, Michael, and his wife Rhonda of Salina; granddaughter Kerry Miles of Kansas City, granddaughter and caregiver Joey Smith of Salina; great-granddaughter Kylie Meyers of Smolan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends that came to love her as as "Grams".

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Frances (WWII), sisters Lorena, Leah, Beth, and their husbands.

There will be no funeral service and cremation was chosen at her request. 

A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the V.F.W.

SALINA -&nbsp;Janet K. Williamson, 73, passed away on February 18, 2022 at her home in Salina, Kansas, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born October 29, 1948 in Topeka, Kansas to Charles R. and Lila M. Shepard. She grew up on the family farm in Carbondale, Kansas. She graduated from Carbondale High School in 1966 and attended Emporia State University.

In 1970, she married Tom A. Williamson and to this union two children were born, Scott and Laura. She worked for USD 305 for a number of years and before she retired, she was the athletic secretary at Salina South High School. 

She loved to sew and quilt and to take road trips with her sewing pals to fabric and sewing stores throughout Kansas. She enjoyed visiting the national parks and seeing the great outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

She is survived by her husband Tom; son Scott Williamson of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter Laura (Joe) Hodgson of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Cole and Kaci Hodgson; and sister Karen (Dennis) Long of Carbondale, Kansas.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 at Ryan Mortuary. It was Janet's wish to be cremated. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Quentin Charles "Q" Kaiser, loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, 34, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 16th, 2022.

Quentin was born in Great Bend, Kansas on November 22, 1987, a son of Laura (Hopkins) Ploutz and the late Curtis L. Kaiser.

Raised in Claflin, Kansas, he was a sweet, caring, kind-hearted, intelligent, talented, beautiful soul who would give the last dollar he had to a homeless man. He was an artist, a musician, photographer and had many God-given gifts to do anything and go anywhere. He was brilliant and talented in so many ways. He was gifted with a beautiful smile and a personality that was bigger than life. He loved nature, the outdoors and his family. To know him was to love him and he never met a stranger. He was the rose among the thorns. Anyone who knew him and not his demons, were lucky to have been given that opportunity. He truly was a gift of God.

Survivors include his mother Laura Ploutz (Alan) of Ellsworth, Kansas; three brothers, Brandon Kaiser (Pam Beeck), of Salina, Kansas, Aaron Kaiser (Kendra), of Claflin, Kansas, Logan Larson, of Ellsworth, Kansas; two sisters, Ashley Schauf (Brian), of Hays, Kansas, Casey Webber (Catlin), of Wilson, Kansas; stepsister Danielle Dittman (Josh) of Ellsworth, Kansas; grandmother Pauline Kaiser of Salina, Kansas. Left to also cherish his memory are aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, especially Tristan, who will be forever bonded to the uncle who loved him beyond measure; cousins and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Curtis Kaiser; grandparents Royce Kaiser, Floyd Hopkins and Victoria Weber.

John Carl Watson&nbsp;was born on October 6, 1948, in Long Beach, California to Charles Frederick Weiss and Katherine Mae Glover Weiss and passed away peacefully with tender loving care from Kindred Hospice on February 15, 2022. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

John lived in Salina most of his life with his Salina family for over 40 years. 

John is survived by his Salina family, Nancy and Richard Main, Brad Weiss, Brenda Weiss Miller (Nyle) Michelle Weiss Hoesli, Mark Weiss (Kristi) and Greg Weiss (Denise) and his sisters and brother, Sandy Weiss Ogilve (Bruce) of Aiken, SC, Charles Frederick Watson of Seneca, SC, Sharon Weiss Kampsen (Jeff) of Milton, GA, Susanne Marie Watson of Vestavia Hills, AL, Teri Watson Marshall of Apex, NC and multiple nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

John loved bowling, swimming, and being part of Salina Special Populations.&nbsp; He graduated from Salina High School South and worked for OCCK for many years as a cleaner and general laborer.

John was parish member of St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina and loved attending mass each week.

John will be remembered by many for always have a ready, sunny smile and a soul warming hug for those he knew and loved.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 26th at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with a burial service immediately following for family and close friends at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp;

John lived in Salina most of his life with his Salina family for over 40 years. John is survived by his Salina family, Nancy and Richard Main, Brad Weiss, Brenda Weiss Miller (Nyle) Michelle Weiss Hoesli, Mark Weiss (Kristi) and Greg Weiss (Denise) and his sisters and brother, Sandy Weiss Ogilve (Bruce) of Aiken, SC, Charles Frederick Watson of Seneca, SC, Sharon Weiss Kampsen (Jeff) of Milton, GA, Susanne Marie Watson of Vestavia Hills, AL, Teri Watson Marshall of Apex, NC and multiple nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. &nbsp;John loved bowling, swimming, and being part of Salina Special Populations.&nbsp; He graduated from Salina High School South and worked for OCCK for many years as a cleaner and general laborer.John was parish member of St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina and loved attending mass each week.John will be remembered by many for always have a ready, sunny smile and a soul warming hug for those he knew and loved.A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 26th at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with a burial service immediately following for family and close friends at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp;In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations to St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina or Kindred Hospice in Salina.To&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ryanmortuary.com/obituary/John-Watson/sympathy">send flowers</a>&nbsp;to the family or&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ryanmortuary.com/obituary/John-Watson/1074854/memorial-tree">plant a tree</a>&nbsp;in memory of John, please&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ryanmortuary.com/obituary/John-Watson/sympathy">visit our floral store.</a>

Larry D. Allen, 71, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022.&nbsp; He was born May 16, 1950, in Clay Center, to Samuel and Ruby (Bright) Allen.

Survivors include his wife Patricia of the home; son, Scott Allen (Amy); daughters Tonya Allen and Jody Mai (James); four grandchildren, Keeli Mai, Jamie Mai, Justin Allen, and Cree Carmichael.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Jarold&nbsp; Zent (Allen), Shirley Allen and Judy&nbsp; Allen; grandparents Samuel and Florence&nbsp; Allen.

Cremation was chosen and services will be held at a later date.

Patrick Flynn, 66, of Abilene passed away February 16, 2022 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. He was born March 19, 1956 in Wichita, the son of Maurice Elvin Flynn and Willa May Haynes. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1974. 

After high school he worked for a service station in Abilene as a mechanic and also worked for Paul Llamas Construction. He later went on and worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He owned and operated Conland Concrete from 1990-2009. After retiring from his concrete business he stayed busy working for DD Ranch. 

Pat loved wrestling and coached many kids in the AKWC; he also coached various other sports as well. 

He married Sherri Kessler. They later divorced. He later married Cheri Everett. 

Patrick is survived by his sons Josh, Andrew, Caleb and Mason Flynn;&nbsp; grandchildren Haven, Brinlee, Kaylin and Kash and a grandson on the way, Jaymeson and ex-wife Cheri Everett Flynn. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Brian Flynn and mother Willa May.

Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-6 p.m.PM at Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given to the Abilene Kids Wrestling Club (AKWC).
