Jimmy Lee “Poppy” Flood, 84, formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at his home in Splendora, TX.
He was retired from the Kansas Dept. of Corrections and was the print shop supervisor at the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory in Hutchinson. He also worked for Kittell Printing in McPherson and owned and operated his own print shop in McPherson with son, Jimmy, Jr.
He was born August 9, 1938, in Cherryvale, KS to Bert and Robbie Irene (Allen) Flood. He spent most of his life in McPherson and graduated from McPherson High School in 1956.
On Jan. 18, 1958, he was united in marriage to Glova Ruth Linaweaver. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2014. This union was blessed with three children, Jimmy, Jr., Tammy, and Debbie.
Survivors include: his daughters Tammy Ek of Splendora, TX and Debbie Flood of Zwolle, LA; a sister, Donna Sue Janzen of McPherson, KS; his grandchildren Jennifer Flood of McPherson, KS, Tanya Hansarik (Nick) of Spring, TX, Molly Williams (Clint) of Natchitoches, LA, Melissa Schamp (Shane) of Galva, KS, Leah Grant of Hutchinson, KS, Justin Ek (Stephanie) of Lexington, SC, Megan Carter (Brice) of Ankeny, IA, and Heath Ek of Hutchinson, KS, and many great-grandchildren that he loved very much.
He was preceded in death his parents, a son, Jimmy, Jr., a brother, Robert Flood, sisters Nadine Morlan and Maxine Spence, son-in-law Steve Ek, and brothers-in-law Maynard Linaweaver, Clarence Linaweaver, Delbert Linaweaver, Leo Linaweaver, and Linus Linaweaver.
Jim’s family meant the world to him, and he dedicated his entire life to them.
He will be laid to rest with his wife Glova, and son Jimmy, Jr., at a graveside service that will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the McPherson Cemetery, followed by a celebration of all their lives from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at American Legion Post #24 in McPherson.
