Marsha Poppe Koster was born on June 3, 1955, in Marion, Kansas, and passed to her heavenly home on February 27, 2022. She was in the company of her loved ones as she left this world.

Marsha had many outstanding qualities. She first exhibited these skills as an athlete at Centre High School as she led the Cougars in their inaugural season to a second place finish in the 1A state basketball tournament. She then took her talents to Kansas State University where she was a four-year letter winner on the Wildkittens basketball and track programs. She was one of the leading rebounders and scorers on the team and helped them to a sixth-place finish in the national tournament in 1975. In track she excelled in the javelin throw and finished fourth in the nation as a freshman and second in both her sophomore and junior years. Her senior year she was unable to participate because of an illness.

Marsha graduated from Kansas State with a degree in home economics and began her teaching career in Summerfield, Kansas, and later substitute taught at Mankato and Clay Center. She obtained her degree in special education in 2000 and began her new career as teacher at Blue Valley and Clay Center Community High School. She continued in this position until her retirement in 2021. Because of her gentle, nurturing and caring personality she influenced many students and acquired their trust and confidence throughout the years. In addition to her teaching position, Marsha also was involved in coaching at these schools.

One of Marsha's passions was volleyball—watching and officiating the sport. Marsha refereed volleyball for 40+ years and worked numerous state tournaments, as well as many other tournaments and matches during this time. Because of her knowledge and expertise, she was selected to be an area supervisor for the activities ssociation in volleyball and worked in this capacity for over 20 years.

Marsha was an excellent seamstress and used her talents in a variety of ways. She learned these skills from her mother and made many of her own clothes in high school and college. For many years she enjoyed crossstitch and many of her projects are displayed around the house. She also crafted many different dolls and collectibles and sold these at area craft shows. In her later years, she began to quilt and was an active member of the local quilt guild.

Of all the roles in which Marsha participated, the one in which she was most proud, was that of being a wife, mother and later, a grandmother. She devotedly followed the activities of her three children—Jamie, Brett, Megan—and supported them in their many adventures. She was a willing volunteer in helping with homework, school projects and encouraged the kids in their academic and athletic pursuits. She undertook the job of being a grandmother with enthusiasm and followed her grandchildren's activities with excitement and joy, looked forward to their numerous events and smothered them with love.

Marsha was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Erin; her father Vernon "Bum", and her brother Tom.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ron; her children Jamie Koster of Clay Center; Brett Koster and wife Andrea, children Bo and Farah of Chapman; Megan Griffiths and husband Cane, children Ellie, Rylee, Raegan, Sawyer, and Emmie of Wakefield; her mother Ruth Poppe of Clay Center; sister-in-law Carol of Leawood; a brother, Wayne Poppe and wife Connie of Oklahoma City; a sister, Janelle Poppe of Olathe and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Marsha was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul on March 4 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon and then burial at the Cawker City Cemetary.

Visitation will take place at the funeral home on March 3 from 3-7 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m. Rosary will follow.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to CCCHS Scholarship Fund, Meadowlark Hospice or Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for handicapped restrooms.

Verl Eckman peacefully passed from this life February 27, 2022 at Village Manor, Abilene, Kansas. He was born to Thomas Jefferson “T.J” and Dorothy “Dot” (Frohardt) Eckman on August 4, 1931 in Abilene, Kansas. Verl was raised in rural Dickinson County and attended Talmage schools until he and his parents moved to Abilene in 1941. He graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1949. Verl was inducted into the service of the United States Army August 29, 1952 at Camp Crowder, in Missouri. He spent one year of his service with the 278th IRCT at Keflavik, Iceland. Active tour of duty ended August 30, 1954. On January 7, 1953, in Westfall, Kansas, Verl was united in marriage to Betty Carr. To this union were born four daughters and one son. Verl and Betty were blessed to spend 69 years together. He worked as a carpenter for Builders Incorporated in Wichita, Kansas and then was employed as a shipping clerk at Boeing Aircraft for 17 years. When he relocated his family back to Abilene, he worked as a shipping clerk at CE Raymond/ABB Preheater, Inc. at Enterprise, Kansas for 25 years. Verl was a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher at the early service, and was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School class.

During his retirement years he and Betty enjoyed traveling - Seattle, Washington, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, just to name a few. Highlight trips: McKinney, Texas and Table Rock Lake, Missouri. Verl was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Jeannette.

Left to celebrate his life are his wife Betty of the home; daughters Annette (Paul) Huiett of Salina, Merrie Bruns of Buckeye, Arizona, Joyce (Doug) McKinney of Beloit; son Steve (Kathy) Eckman of Shawnee; grandchildren Jayme (Roy) Hamilton, Phil (Kathleen) McKinney, Leann McKinney and fiancé Luke Schreefer, Mackenzie Eckman and special friend Shane Millard, Megan (Jacob) Webb; great-grandchildren Kylie and Braedon. Mary Jayne Jester, 65, of Salina, Kansas passed away peacefully on February 17th in her home.

Mary was born to William and Ann Kondzela in Milwaukee, WI on March 12, 1956.

Mary is survived by her children; Michael, Matthew, and Katherine; her sisters Paulette and Patricia and brother William; as well as her six beautiful grandchildren who she adored immensely.

When Mary decided to relocate to Salina, Kansas, she worked nearly 40 years with Phillips Lighting, retiring last spring. Her achievements and hard work did not stop there. She committed her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and “Amma” as her grandchildren named her.

Mary’s selfless love excelled at propping up her family and friends. She had a contagious laugh and a big smile that she was willing to share with so many. Mary was always eager to help others and had a special passion for the outdoors. She was a magical gardener; she could grow anything! When she wasn’t taking time to help others or spreading her laughter, she would share her huge heart with all animals especially her four-legged babies. She would fulfill her days with her family, pets and gardening.

We will hold the most amazing memories of our mother and we will miss her greatly.

September 12, 1941 ~ February 24, 2022 (age 80)

Gail Aliene Marvin, 80, of Salina, Kansas unexpectedly went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, Thursday, February 24, 2022. &nbsp;

Gail was born to John and Geneva (Steen) Van Valkenburg in Topeka, Kansas on September 12, 1941. The family lived in Topeka, Garden City and Wichita, Kansas and settled in Montezuma, Kansas, where she graduated from Montezuma High School in 1959.&nbsp; She earned her RN degree from Wesley Hospital College of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas in 1962, where she began nursing and lived until 1964. &nbsp;

Gail married the love of her life, Roy J. (Jim) Marvin, on September 20, 1964, in Montezuma. After their wedding, they moved to California, first to Compton and then to Long Beach.&nbsp; While in California, she worked as an obstetrics nurse at Lakewood General Hospital, where both of her children were born. Feeling the call of her home state as a good place to raise their children, they returned to Kansas in 1972 and settled down in Salina, where Gail continued to work as a nurse at Asbury Hospital until her retirement and went on to work at Mowery Clinic. 

Always one to give freely of her time and talents, she was constantly involved in her community, through serving and singing in her church, singing in the annual ‘Messiah’ presentations at Bethany College and with the Salina Choral and the Silvertones.&nbsp; &nbsp;

She also served in many volunteer activities, including most recently with Meals on Wheels and at Salina Regional Health Center. The compassion, generosity, patience, and kindness she extended to all she met were a perfect reflection of her loving spirit and commitment to her faith in Jesus Christ.

Gail deeply loved being with family. Whether it was hosting loved ones at her home in Salina or travelling across the country in her beloved camper, she always made an effort to be involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. 

She was a phenomenal housekeeper, keeping her home immaculately clean and baking the best cherry pies and carrot cookies around. She and her husband, Jim, loved spending time with one another, and together they enjoyed seeing the country on their own or with their trailer club and square dancing with the Salina Twirlers. She enjoyed reading, walking, bowling, watching KU basketball and going out to the Salina airport, just to see what kind of planes might be there.&nbsp; She loved animals, and her friends and neighbors knew that if they found a stray kitten, they should, “Check with Gail!” 

She was wise but supremely humble. She was always quick to listen, and even quicker to laugh.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents John and Geneva, and sister Patricia (Pat) VanCleave.&nbsp;

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim, children Beth (Kevin) Borger and Matt (Sue) Marvin, grandchildren Hayden, Logan (Maris) and Ashton Borger, Grant (Erin) and Cole Marvin, devoted sisters, LouAna (Ann) Van Valkenburg, Virgina Van Valkenburg, Kathy (Joe) Powell, along with many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.

Visitation will be Friday, March 4, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with family present at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th St, Salina.&nbsp; A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Belmont Blvd. Church of the Nazarene, 2632 Highland Ave., Salina, with Rev. Paul Long officiating.&nbsp; 

Memorials may be made to the church in her honor.

Chris Shannon Engle was born to Willis and Beth (Sjoholm) Engle in Lincoln, Nebraska on Febuary 13th, 1971. He was raised on the family farm in Geneva, Nebraska with his older brother Tim and older sister Karyl.

Throughout Chris’s life, he enjoyed youth baseball, farming, hunting, fishing and working on vintage Mustangs. He shared a passion for hard work with his father as they worked together not only on the family farm, but also at El Dorado National in his young adult years. Chris’s deep roots in Nebraska showed through as you could always find him rooting the Cornhuskers on every Saturday during football season.

Working in home construction by trade, he worked for numerous building contractors in the Hutchinson and Salina area. His love for home building and remodeling was shared in many conversations with friends and family. Chris also spent the last several years helping and spending time with new and old friends.

Those who knew Chris, knew he was proud of his children. Chris leaves behind his daughters Ali (Ryan) Engle, Ryin Engle, MaKayla Farmer, Haylie (Logan) Newell, Jaidan Hickman, Erykah Carr. He also leaves behind two nieces, Lyndsi (Chris) Engle and Megan Engle, and two nephews, Brady Engle and Cody (Seri) Engle. He also had two grandchildren (Legend and Laikynn) and two great nephews (Khyri and Kiernan). Chris was also blessed with many friends and family members near and far.

Please join us in celebrating Chris’s life at a memorial service on Friday, March 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary located at 137 N. 8th, Salina, KS. There will be fellowship with family directly after the service.

The viewing will take place Thursday, March 3rd at Ryan Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Alex Vernon Glavin, 87, of Salina, passed away February 22, 2022. He was born November 25, 1934, in Kingman, KS.

He worked in the diesel repair industry all his life as a sales representative, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation where he served as a senior/junior warden until the church closed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol Sue (Fay) Glavin in 2008, brothers Alfred, Richard, Virgil, and a sister, Minnie Jane Glavin-Davidson.

Survivors include his children Curtis (Danise) Glavin, Owasso, OK; Rodd (Jolene) Glavin, Salina, KS; Leslie (Diana) Glavin, Loveland, CO; Reid (Betsy) Glavin, Grandby, CO; Scott Lynn) Tidmus, Winter Garden, FL;

grandchildren Erin (Amy) Glavin, Jennifer (David) Linder, Sarah (Nick) Sprenger, Kristyn (Tyler) Burnett, Jacob (Kinsey) Glavin, Levi (Jamie) Glavin, Sydney Glavin, Joel Glavin, Elisa Glavin, Sean (fiancé Merrilyn) Tidmus, Conner (Cary) Tidmus; and nine&nbsp;

Jo Newhouse, 76, Minneapolis, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, with her family by her side after two battles with cancer. JoCarol, the daughter of Cedric and Constance (Blake) Langley was born Thursday, October 11, 1945, in Sacramento, CA.

Jo, who was known as Mema to many, was best known as the owner and operator of Jo’s Daylight Donuts in downtown Minneapolis from 2004-2020. She was an extremely hard worker, but she always took time to visit with her customers. 

If you would ask Jo what her biggest accomplishment was in life, she would without a doubt say it was her family. Being the best mother and Mema was so important to her and she would do whatever she could to help them. When not making donuts or spending time with family, you would find her at a casino or playing bingo with friends. She made many friendships over the years, but she never knew a stranger.

Survivors are her daughter Tami Fabrizius and her husband Mike and her children Kelby Kircher and his wife Kelsie and their children Krayton and Kentley; and Janessa Allen; son Matthew Newhouse and his wife Michelle and their children Acacia, Mikayla, and Mackley; and daughter Sheena Snider and her husband Josh, and their children Riley, Carmen, and Jefferson.

At Jo’s request, there will be an informal come and go Celebration of her Life on Saturday, March 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at 950 E. Fifth Street, Minneapolis.

She then attended and graduated from the institute of Notre Dame, Baltimore, MD. She also attended the Bard Avon School at Baltimore. She also studied at the San Antonio College and St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas and later graduated from the McConnell Airline Stewardess School, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, KS 67460. She was a former member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Alexandria, VA, and Santa Rosa Catholic Church, Georgetown, TX. She was baptized on April 25, 1926, at St Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Baltimore, MD by Monsignor John J. Murray. She was employed as an administrative assistant at Woodlawn Plantation Alexandria, VA., for 14 years. She worked for the U.S. Government for several years in Colorado and Texas. Her favorite job was in the Public Information Office at 4th Army Headquarters in the Quadrangle at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, when General Jonathan M. Wainwright was the commanding general. She worked for two years as the administrative assistant to the state manager of the Texas Company before her marriage on May 2, 1953. Marie Estelle O'Donnell was united in marriage to Alvin Twitchell at the Catholic Chapel in Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, on May 2, 1953. Alvin died on January 13, 2013. As the wife of career Air Force Officer Colonel Alvin Twitchell, she accompanied him on military assignments to Europe and throughout the United States. They settled in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972. In 1974 Marie went to work in Mount Vernon, Virginia at Woodlawn Plantation, a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She and her husband, Al, both retired in 1989 and began their world travels. In 1996 they moved to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas where they enjoyed 13 years of warm weather, playing golf and playing duplicate bridge. In 2009 they moved to the Cedars in McPherson, Kansas to be near their daughter Patricia and husband Gary Goad. Marie was active as an golfer and avid duplicate bridge player, as well as a Red Cross volunteer, secretary, parliamentarian or committee chairman of various officer's wives's clubs, Girl Scout troop organizer and troop leader, Cub Scout Den mother, toastmistress, hospital volunteer at Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria and president of the Griffiss AFB Women's Golf Assn. Robert E. Morse passed away February 13, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion, Kansas.&nbsp; 

Robert was the son of Earl and Hattie (Klenk) Morse of Marion.&nbsp; He was born February 26, 1941, in Hillsboro.&nbsp; Robert attended school in Marion.&nbsp; 

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brothers Paul (Elaine) Morse of Marion, and John Morse of Aurora, CO, and his sister Ruth (Gary) Dall of Emporia, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; 

Graveside services will be held on Saturday March 5, 2022, at Marion Cemetery at 2 p.m.&nbsp; Yazel Megli Funeral Home is serving the family.&nbsp;

Jane Marie Boling, age 77, left this earthly life on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She was born on Dec. 22, 1944 in Concordia, KS to James F. “Frank” and Vera L. “Lorena” (Hinson) Brunell.

She graduated from Aurora High School.&nbsp; She married Richard “Dick” Boling on July 7, 1962 in Aurora, KS.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and the caretaker of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Aurora, KS and kept the church running smoothly for many years. She also worked at Short Stop in Concordia and enjoyed interacting with all the community.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Aurora, the Altar Society and belonged to the Go-Go Girls card club.&nbsp; Jane loved her family and especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Richard “Dick” Boling, Aurora; son Alan Boling (Micaela), Omaha, NE; daughter Dawn Snyder (Steve), Concordia; sisters Kay Cummins (Don), Aurora and Nancy Simpson (Ryan), Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren Garritt Boling and Devin Boling (fiancé Sam), Anchorage, AK, Toni Boling, Omaha, NE, Kole, Brianna and Mariah Blazek, Concordia and Jeremy and Brett Snyder, Concordia and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents; a daughter, Cher; sisters Patricia Letourneau and Anita Colbert.

Bernard “Bernie” Omer Bieker, age 73, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born on January 19, 1949 in Cheyenne Wells, CO to Julius Omer and Marie Marcella (Forgue) Bieker.

He graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School, Concordia.&nbsp; He then attended Brown Mackie in Salina and seminary for some time in Victoria.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975.

He was a computer programmer for most of his life in Colorado until returning to Concordia to care for his mother and has been a resident for the past 12 years.&nbsp; He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia.&nbsp; Bernie was an avid genealogy researcher and enjoyed keeping the family history together and current.

He is survived by his longtime partner Janice Henshaw, Concordia; son Andy (Megan), Boise, ID; daughter Julie Bieker Adams (Jason), Meridian, ID; brothers Lawrence (Cathy), Pittsburg, KS, Richard (Diane), James (Cathy),&nbsp;Anthony (Mary), Thomas (Crystal Wilson), all of Concordia and Dale (Kim), Benton, AR; sisters Elizabeth Deneke (Mike), Amarillo, TX, Margaret Colgrove (Dwight), Washington, KS and Kathleen Schmidt (Russ), Concordia; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

On December 30, 2008 he was united in marriage to Sheri Fiske. 

Todd worked for the utility industry for several years before later working in the greyhound industry. He was very proud to serve on the USD 393 school board for several terms. 

Todd is survived by his wife Sheri; three stepsons, Chase Fiske, Cade Fiske (Skyler) and Cobey Fiske (Dara); his mother Janice Brungard; two sisters, Pam Blouin (Patrick Tovar) and Gayla Whiteley (Leonard Donaldson); nieces and nephews Ross, Cody (Mellisa), Ethan (Shaylee), Baylie (Ambria), C.J. SALINA - At his core, Joseph D. “Joe” Cobb, 83, was a family man, music man, and man of God. In his elder years, Joe also became what many described as a “Superman.”&nbsp;

Born in Salina, Kansas, in 1938, Joe was the youngest of four siblings and a typical little boy who liked to get into mischief and play outside with his friends. His parents had a garden in their backyard, and one of his fondest memories was loading up a red wagon with strawberries and pulling it down the alley a few blocks where he sold them to the former Ashton’s Grocery Store.&nbsp;

Throughout his childhood and teenage years, Joe spent most of his time in athletics and he was good, too. At Salina Central High School, Joe was a standout in football, basketball, and golf but baseball was Joe’s favorite and best sport. What started off as “sock ball” with his buddies, Joe took his talent in baseball all the way to the professional level, being recruited to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers farm team.&nbsp;

Joe completed three years of college between time at the University of Minnesota, Kansas State University, and Kansas Wesleyan University, majoring in chemistry. He had a knack for numbers and a curiosity for science, but in the end, his creative genius won out. Starting in his 20s, Joe played bass and rhythm guitar in a variety of bands including The Birdmen, The Impacts, BJ4, The Big Beats, and Wheatland ‘Lectric Band. He also enjoyed discovering new talent, managing bands, and writing music. Joe was even able to record one of his songs, called “How Long Can A Good Thing Last?”&nbsp;

As many musicians do, Joe worked “day jobs” to support himself and later his family. He was a truck hostler for Gooch’s Feed Mill in Salina and the co-owner of Accounts Receivable Services, or ARS, where he helped relieve the burden of mass medical bills, collaborating with clients to create payment plans. He also worked in construction, but mostly for himself, building two family homes near Tescott and in Bennington, Kansas.&nbsp;

Joe has three daughters: Tiffanni, from his first marriage; and Jodi and Julee, from his second marriage. Joe’s children were the light and love of his life. When Tiffanni was younger, he couldn’t wait to visit her in Alabama and take her on special outings so they could build a bond even though they lived apart. Joe was a hands-on Dad with Jodi and Julee, chaperoning them at concerts, videotaping every high school accomplishment, visiting them in college, and moving them across the country a few different times. He supported their every aspiring dream, but was happy to welcome Julee back home when she moved in to be his caregiver.

After a fall down his basement stairs in 2013, Joe went to the hospital for what he believed was a concussion. After a few scans and tests, he was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma with brain mets. His oncologist estimated he had four to six months to live, and that prognosis lit a fire inside Joe to fight the expected outcome. He endured radiation to his brain as well as chemotherapy and immunotherapy for many years. With each six-month check-up, his doctors continued to be amazed at his miraculous condition. Joe went on to suffer two heart attacks, a traumatic brain injury, several infections, and dementia. With each ailment and hospital stay, Joe fought to beat the odds. He credits God’s healing hand and the thousands of prayers said for him over the years as his strength to keep going. In the early morning hours of Feb. 24, God told Joe he didn’t have to fight anymore and He called him home to rest.&nbsp;

Joe was preceded in death by his parents John and Ellen (Trapp) Cobb; sisters Betty Moravec and Bonnie Olson; niece Roxanne Moravec Haggard; nephew Christopher Moravec; and Baby Girl Cobb. 

Joe is survived by half-brother Jim Cobb (Jeanette) of Corona, CA; daughters Tiffanni Koone of Maylene, AL; Jodi Suglio (Anthony) of Hendersonville, TN; and Julee Cobb, of the home; and grandson Hayden Koone of Asheville, NC. Additionally, he is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Joe was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene, 1425 S. Ohio Street, Salina, where he played in the worship band and wrote special music. A Celebration of Life honoring Joe will be held at the church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 4 with a lunch following for family and close friends. A visitation will be held prior on Thursday, March 3 between 4 and 8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Street in Salina. Burial will be private.

Ernestine “Ernie” L. (Tincher) Goerend, 83, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022. She was born December 19, 1938, in Wichita, Kansas.

Ernestine was an outstanding homemaker. Ernie’s love and interest for her children were even more outstanding, as when she attained the status of and served as the Kansas State PTA President from 1989 - 1991.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents Ernest, and Maude (Stoops) Tincher, her beloved husband of 60 years, Duane T. Goerend;&nbsp; her daughter Pamela S. Schick, a brother, William R. Tincher, a sister, Ruth Ann Cox, and a grandson, Justin Willingham.

Survivors include her children Kimberly S. Willingham and Linda S. (David) Rohleder, both of Salina, son-in-law Bradley Schick of White City, three grandchildren, Dakota Rohleder (Ashley), Dalton Willingham (Courtney), and Hannah Lott (Dustin); 10 great-grandchildren, Ava Sidebottom, Aleah Willingham, Halleigh Willingham, Adelynn Willingham, Jaxen Willingham, Randi Willingham, Decklan Lott,&nbsp;Malcolm Rohleder, Hatcher Lott, and Finley Willingham.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1, 2022, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with Ernestine’s funeral service to start at 1:00 p.m. at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

His fatherly involvement and support toward family, friends and coworkers, built trust and endearment as he built a local Hillsboro business (Circle-D).

Vince was impacted by respiratory issues years ago, but held steadfast, working through these complications to continue his endeavor of helping those around him.

Gordon Lee Koehn was born March 10, 1935 to Jonas and Laura (Koehn) Koehn at Galva, Kansas. He passed away February 23, 2022 at Moundridge Kansas, reaching the age of 86 years.

Dad grew up on the farm in the Galva community. Our family enjoyed hearing his stories of school days and adventures related to the oil field activity in the area.

Dad was converted and was baptized on December 16, 1948, becoming a member of The Church of God in Christ Mennonite. This commitment and experience was important to him and influenced his entire life.

Dad gave his 1W service in the Baltimore, Maryland area. When he returned home he found reasons to be with the young people from the Burns, Kansas area, and on May 17, 1957 he was married to Doris Mae Koehn. They were married for 59 years. 

Four daughters were born to their home. His family knew that he deeply loved and cared for them. Home was where he wanted to be. Many times we heard him say “there’s no place like home.”

In their early married life our parents spent time in Denver, Colorado as house parents at a voluntary service unit, followed by Dad attending trade school to learn the auto body repair trade. This occupation is how Dad provided for his family. He was the owner of Hillsboro Body Shop for many years. He provided well, although the date that he could retire from the shop was eagerly anticipated.

Dad was ordained to the Gospel Ministry on February 16, 1969. He was a shepherd to the flock entrusted to his care. He gave of himself in the work of the church, serving on different boards and committees. This was his true passion in life. A theme verse often quoted by him was Philippians 3:10 – “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection.”

Retirement years were filled with activity. Two years were spent in Columbia, Missouri serving under USA Missions. Trips to Roaring River State Park filled with fishing and conversation with friends were much enjoyed.

Mom passed away on September 19, 2016. Dad intensely felt the loss of Mom’s passing. He had many lonely days over the next five years. In September of 2017 he moved to Krehbiel Apartments in Moundridge Kansas. He came to appreciate his Pine Village family.

Dad endured sickness the last weeks of his life. Some of his last words to us were from Revelations 14:13 “Blessed are&nbsp;the dead which die in the Lord.” Dad often spoke of heaven. We are comforted by the assurance that he has reached his heavenly home.

Those left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Lori and Reginald Hiebert, Karen and Larry Ensz all of Hillsboro, Kansas; Barbara and Terry Hiebert, Pecos, Texas; Beverly and Nelson Wiebe, Durham, Kansas, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also left behind are brothers-in-law Chester Koehn, Kenneth and Betty Koehn, Willard and Merita Koehn; sisters-in-law Phyllis Koehn, Norma Mastre, Bernice and Galen Nichols, Vada and Allen Boyer. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his parents-in-law, two brothers, seven brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Alexanderfeld Mennonite Church, rural Hillsboro, officiated by Minister Orlin Ensz. Interment at Alexanderfeld Mennonite Church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
