Mary Katherine Isaacson
Obituary for Mary Katherine (Roesner) Isaacson | Ryan Mortuary
June 6, 1950 ~ September 2, 2022 (age 72)
SALINA - Mary Katherine Isaacson, 72, left us unexpectedly on Friday September 2, 2022. She was born on June 6, 1950, daughter of Robert and Mary (O’Shea) Roesner.
She attended Kipp Grade School, Sacred Heart High School, and Marymount College, where she received a BA in elementary education and math. She was always devoted to her students.
When she married Vaughn Isaacson on April 20, 1974, her third-grade students at St. Mary’s elementary were her honored guests. She later taught at Sacred Heart Grade School until its closing, then Ell-Saline Jr./Sr. High. At this time, she earned a master’s degree in special education from Kansas State University.
She retired from Ell-Saline after a total of 44 years in the classroom but continued to teach religious education classes for Sacred Heart Cathedral and St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Lindborg.
Her devotion to her faith was matched only by her devotion to her family. Seldom a day went by without several of her 23 grandchildren in her company and she always made sure to be at all their special events and activities. Any time her grandkids were going on a trip, or a coworker would have a birthday, she would make brownies or a cake for them. She also had a love for gardening and always had a porch full of beautiful blooms throughout the spring and summer. Her love of learning gave her a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of life and was someone you could talk to about anything. Even with all her many accomplishments, she was most proud of her family and time spent with them.
Mary Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jim and Leo Roesner, and granddaughter Lucia Larson.
She leaves behind the broken hearts of her husband Vaughn of 48 years, her mother-in-law Betty Isaacson, six children: Jason (Melissa) Isaacson of Salina, Ryan (Amy) of Assaria, Kristine (Heath) Larson of Wichita, Josh (Kayla) Isaacson of Smolan, Aaron (Tessa) Isaacson of Assaria, Derek (Christy) Isaacson of Salina, 23 grandchildren, and an abounding number of friends and relatives for which she was selfless with her time.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, September 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina. A rosary will precede the Mass at 10:00 a.m.
A visitation will be held Sunday, September 11th from 4-6 p.m. with a vigil starting at 5 p.m. also at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
