Claudia Ann Stevenson, 78, passed away with her family by her side on July 29, 2022.&nbsp; She was born in Denver, CO on August 13, 1943 to Isadore Pfannenstiel and Kathryn Braun.

Claudia was a strong woman who was a breast cancer survivor. She saw the good in almost everyone. She made lots of friends throughout her years of working in the family businesses and had a smile for everyone.&nbsp; She retired in 1999 to provide child care for her grandsons.&nbsp; She enjoyed making donations to several charities throughout the years.&nbsp; She was an avid book reader and loved playing Yahtzee.

She loved her family thoroughly and loved the family get -ogethers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Cheryl Taylor, and son Brian Beasley, Sr.

She is survived by her husband Don; her children LaLoni Coble (Ron), Tohnya Davis (Dennis), William Beasley, DeLynn Burdick, Michael Beasley and the grandson that she raised, Brian Beasley, Jr.; her stepchildren Dennis Stevenson (Rita) and Linda Gray (Bill); her siblings Leon Pfannenstiel, Carol White (Paul) and Jerome Pfannenstiel (Sharon); 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Sunset Park Shelter #1.

Carol Jean Heller, 90, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. She was born on October 2, 1931, in Norton County, Kan., to Curtis and Elizabeth (Lathrop) Kelly.

Carol graduated nursing school in 1952 from St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City. On November 8, 1953, she and Donald Max Heller were united in marriage in Norton.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Marlene Edwards (Dennis), Sundance, Wyo., Marilyn Rose (Paul), Palmetto, Fla., and Martha Smith, Salina; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Don.

A private service and burial will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carol Heller Trust for a nursing scholarship in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th St, Salina, KS 67401.

Eula Elisabeth Oxandale, 91, passed away August 4, 2022, in Salina, Kansas. Eula was born December 28, 1930, in Sabetha, KS. She was the first of two children born to Howard and Theda Bixby. 

She married Warren Oxandale October 23, 1948, together they raised four children on a farm south of Wetmore, Kansas.

Eula worked for many years as the secretary for the Wetmore Schools. Secretary was her title, but she was much more than that to everyone there. She was active in the American Legion, 4-H and the Methodist Church. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and was asked to sing for many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. 

Eula moved to Salina, Kansas in 1996 to be closer to two of her children and grandchildren. She worked part time for Jostens and did volunteer work for Salina Regional Health Center. She thoroughly enjoyed visiting schools with Jostens and interacting with all the students.

Eula is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Theda Bixby; her husband Warren; and oldest son Timothy Oxandale. 

Eula was cherished and will be so missed by her family. Survivors include daughter Marcia Troutfetter (George) of Salina; two sons, Brian Oxandale (Kim) Salina, Brad Oxandale (Sherry) Kearney, MO; one brother, Robert (Penny) Bixby, AZ; twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Eula requested her family gather and celebrate her life privately. There will be no public services.

 In addition to being a devoted mother to four children, Eula will also be remembered by her distinct ability to connect with people, learning about their family and friends, then connecting them to people that she knew as well. She was well versed in her genealogy, as well as others.

SALINA –&nbsp;Warren L. Landauer, 61, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Hays, KS to Milfred and Twila (Rohr) Landauer. &nbsp;

Warren’s faith was important growing up in the Catholic Church.&nbsp; He was an altar boy in his youth and went on a six-week mission trip to Brazil in 1979.&nbsp; He was a Boy Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow honor society. &nbsp;

Warren was a self-proclaimed jack of all trades, master of none.&nbsp; He was a CNC operator and maintenance supervisor but most of all loved being a farmhand, herdsman and cowboy. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents. &nbsp;

He is survived by his daughters, Sophie Landauer and Amanda Yonker; son Wesley Landauer; and sisters Donna Mays Wanda Mitchell, and Rhoda Jo Wray.

A rosary and vigil service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022 with a funeral Mass following at 1 p.m. all at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina. &nbsp;

Jack Alexander Smith&nbsp;passed away from natural causes on May 11, 2022, surrounded by family at his home in Salina. Jack was born on October 20, 1929, to Wilbur Earl Smith and Emma (Thompson) Smith in Mankato, KS.

Jack graduated from Mankato High School after which he joined the Army and served with the 196th Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War. He was also in the National Guard and was active in the VFW for many years.

Jack moved to Salina in 1962 and married Beverly Jean Bishop in 1965. Jack worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his whole life and made many trips to South Dakota and Canada in pursuit of these interest’s. In his retirement he restored an antique 1952 M38A1 Army jeep which he drove in parades and around the neighborhood. He also went on many trips with his wife and travelled all over the United States. Jack volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the First Christian Church.

He enjoyed being outside, working in his yard, taking walks, and working out at the YMCA. He never met a person he did not like and very rarely had anything negative to say. He believed in getting up early and was always willing to lend a hand or help a neighbor, friend, or stranger.

Jack is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey Alan Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO and Matthew Lynn Smith of Overland Park, KS, along with four grandchildren, Ethan Alexander Smith, Rachel Louise Smith, Owen Jeffrey Smith, and Nathan William Smith. He also is survived by his three nieces, Janice McCune of Grant, NE, Dixie Calderon of Arlington, TX and Alicia Fricke of Lawrence, KS.

Jack was proceeded in death by his parents Earl, and Emma Smith; his sisters Wilma Andrews, Dorothy McCullough, and Elizabeth Reece; his two nephews Marvin Andrews, Billy Andrews; and niece Mary Jane Mohler.

Memorial Service will be held for Beverly and Jack on Saturday, August 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Ryan Mortuary in Salina.

Beverly Jean (Bishop) Smith&nbsp;passed away on June 26, 2022, at her home in Salina after battling leukemia, surrounded by family. Beverly was born on April 18, 1937, in Wichita, KS to Adelbert “Ebby” Bishop and Anna Laura (Winter) Bishop. She grew up in Derby, KS and graduated from Derby High School. She went on to get her B.A. in Secondary Education from Friends University in Wichita, KS. After graduating she accepted a teaching position with Rozelle High School in Rozelle, KS where she lived for two years. She then moved to Mankato, KS where she became the Jewell County Extension Agent for three and half years. This is also where she met her future husband, Jack Smith.

Beverly moved to Salina, KS and worked for the Saline County Extension Service for ten years. In this period, she also married Jack and obtained her master’s degrees in both Family &amp; Childhood Development and Consumer Economics from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;

After taking a few year years off to raise their two boys, Beverly went back to work as an Associate Professor at Kansas Wesleyan University where she taught for 17 years. She served on many committees and was a faculty member for Kansas State University for 13 years before retiring from Kansas Wesleyan. Before she officially retired, she was a consultant for Mid-American Nazarene, Baker University, Ottawa University and Saint Mary’s University.

Throughout her life she volunteered for many groups including being a camp counselor for 20 years, and a 4-H community leader. She was an administrator for the Salina Track Club/Junior Olympics and took many groups of students on trips to New York and 4-H members to Washington D.C. Beverly was also a member of the First Christian Church in Salina, where she taught Sunday School and served on the board.

Her interest’s included travel, cooking, sewing, sports and attending community theatre. She spent her last few years, taking care of her husband and adoring her grandkids.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Jack A. Smith; both of her parents; and her siblings, Paul Bishop and Juanita “Bishop” Meissen.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Alan Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Matthew Lynn Smith of

Overland Park, KS, and her four grandchildren: Ethan Alexander Smith, Rachel Louise Smith, Owen Jeffrey Smith, and Nathan William Smith. Along with her nephews, Greg Meissen of Wichita, Steve Meissen of Fayetteville, GA and Gerald Winkle of Puyallup, WA.

She went on to get her B.A. in Secondary Education from Friends University in Wichita, KS. After graduating she accepted a teaching position with Rozelle High School in Rozelle, KS where she lived for two years. She then moved to Mankato, KS where she became the Jewell County Extension Agent for three and half years. This is also where she met her future husband, Jack Smith.Beverly moved to Salina, KS and worked for the Saline County Extension Service for ten years. In this period, she also married Jack and obtained her master’s degrees in both Family &amp; Childhood Development and Consumer Economics from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;After taking a few year years off to raise their two boys, Beverly went back to work as an Associate Professor at Kansas Wesleyan University where she taught for 17 years. She served on many committees and was a faculty member for Kansas State University for 13 years before retiring from Kansas Wesleyan. Before she officially retired, she was a consultant for Mid-American Nazarene, Baker University, Ottawa University and Saint Mary’s University.Throughout her life she volunteered for many groups including being a camp counselor for 20 years, and a 4-H community leader. She was an administrator for the Salina Track Club/Junior Olympics and took many groups of students on trips to New York and 4-H members to Washington D.C. Beverly was also a member of the First Christian Church in Salina, where she taught Sunday School and served on the board.Her interest’s included travel, cooking, sewing, sports and attending community theatre. She spent her last few years, taking care of her husband and adoring her grandkids.Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Jack A. Survivors include her four daughters, Jenifer (Gene) Gilley, Susan (James) Shinkle, Dana (David) Dickerson and Becky Allen-Powell, two brothers, Charles (Sharon) Tabor, and Allen Tabor, and one sister, Peggy House.&nbsp; She was also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family and friends.

Bob was born in St. Francis, Kansas, on November 8, 1924, a son of Arthur Robert Cook and Irene (Carlson) Cook Weis. 
He worked in soil conservation, road construction, and owned and operated Cook Mobile Home Service. 
Bob served during WWII in the United States Army as a paratrooper from 1944 - 1946. 
On May 25, 1950, Bob married Beverly M. Shores in Goodland, Kansas. 
Bob and his daughter, Cathy were avid world travelers, specifically to 
Costa Rica, Europe, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and throughout the United 
States. He loved to visit his nieces and nephews and friends at the 
Salina VFW and American Legion Posts. 
Bob looked forward to family get-togethers, holidays, cook-outs, and other events. 
He was also blessed to be able to take the Kansas Honor Flight #12, 
April 30-May 2, 2014, and the Dream Flight on August 26, 2021. 
Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Boll, (Joe Miller) of Salina, 
Kansas; granddog, River; step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; 
and nieces and nephews. 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Fred Weis;

He was a graduate of Salina Senior High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Leroy was an electrician by trade, and worked for many years before his retirement at Central Kansas Electric, of which he was part owner. He was a man of many hobbies, and over the course of his life he played baseball; competed in car audio competitions and skeet shooting; and was an avid sportsman who spent many happy days hunting and fishing. He was proud to be a friend of Bill W for 48 years. Leroy was a devoted father, a loving partner, and a generous friend to many. He is survived by his longtime partner, Karen Schmidt; daughter, Jamie Johnson; sisters Sharion Horton, Carolyn (David) Goodwin, and Jan Johannes; and several nieces and nephews. Leroy E. Johnson

Kenneth Leroy Hanson Sr., age 83, of Randolph, passed away Saturday August 6, 2022, at the Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born on March 25, 1939, in Manhattan, the son of Kenneth and Leona (Jensen) Hanson.&nbsp; He graduated from old Randolph High School in 1957.

On June 1, 1958, in Salem, Missouri, he married Bonnie Jean Burkman.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Kenneth graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with a teaching degree and began his career at Lewis, Kansas, for two years, Randolph for two years and then Logan, Kansas for 27 years.&nbsp; During this time, he earned his master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; In 1997, he returned to Blue Valley to become the Middle and High School principal, retiring in 2004.&nbsp; Following his retirement, he continued to substitute teach and drive a school bus until he turned 80.

He was a member of the Alert Covenant Church and enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; During his many years of teaching and coaching, he made a positive impact on many of his students and athletes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Kenneth Hanson Jr. and wife Debbie of Salina, Christine Marshall and husband Cullen of Solomon, John Hanson and wife Lee Ann of Baldwin City and Julie Weidenhaft and husband Brandon of Hays; three brothers, Melvin Hanson of Hutchinson, Gene Hanson of El Dorado and Steve Hanson of Manhattan; two sisters, Shirley O’Quinn of Bartow, Florida and Wanda Murphy of Milwaukie, Oregon; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons, Stephen and Karl Hanson.

Dean Leon Seifert was born on June 23, 1925, near Clifton, to Leon Frank and Pearl C. (Allen) Seifert, and passed away on August 6, 2022, at Park Villa in Clyde, at the age of 97 years, 1 month, and 14 days.

Dean was one of two boys born to Leon and Pearl, and he grew up on the family farm, attending school in Agenda. Dean graduated from Agenda High school in 1942, and joined his dad in his farming operation.

A farmer and stockman his entire life, Dean enjoyed rural living, working with his John Deere tractors, and tending to his cattle.

 He was a very active and involved in many organizations, including three terms on the Greenleaf/Linn Elevator CO-OP board, two terms on the Washington County Soil Conservation Board with two years as president of the board, a member of the Brantford Community Center Board, president of the District #16 Cemetery Board, and the mayor of Brantford.

A steward of the land, Dean was awarded the 1971 soil conservation award, and the 1990 Goodyear NCRS Conservation Award.

 Dean was always on the go and stayed active with many hobbies. He made over 40 quilts by hand, donating them to the Lutheran World Relief Mission, the Brantford Community Center Raffle and the Cuba Rock-A-Thon. He enjoyed gardening, and shared his garden produce and fruits with his neighbors and pie makers. He also enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and pitch, and was active for over 25 years on bowling teams in Belleville, along with being a team player in the Washington League.

Dean enjoyed traveling, and took bus trips to Estes Park in Colorado, touring the north east states during the fall, Washington, D.C., Kentucky, various casinos, and even taking a trip to Hawaii.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ardyce in 1991, his second wife Arlene in 2014, brother Earl Seifert and his wife Joyce.

He is survived by his nephew Steve Seifert and his wife Angie, niece Dona Bainbridge and her husband Doug, and nephew Roger Gunter and his wife Lorna Dee. Dean is also survived by his stepdaughter-in-law Teresa Keeler and stepson-in-law Charles Jones, along with stepgrandchildren Jeffrey Keeler (Lori), Brandon Keeler (Jona), Michael Keeler (Regina), Kelly Bandt, Paige Briggs (Jeff), Tina Carstensen (Daniel). He is also survived by other family and relatives, neighbors and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport, Nebraska, where the family will greet friends from 8:30 a.m. until service time. Graveside Services will follow at 2:00 pm, at Rusco Cemetery, rural Brantford.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 9, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home. The family will not be present.

Hillsboro - Sarah Kathryn Penner, 87, passed away August 4, 2022 at Newton Medical Center. She was born April 28, 1935 in Arkansas City to Raymond and Dorothy (Wheeler) Kittrell.

Life Sketch Taken from the Funeral Bulletin Sarah “Sally” Kathryn Kittrell was born to Raymond and Dorothy Kittrell of Arkansas City, Kansas. She was one of four children born to Dorothy and Raymond and is survived by her brother Jim Kittrell, sister Virginia LeSieur, and preceded in death by a brother, Ken Kittrell. She graduated from Arkansas City High School and later from Wesley School of Nursing.

Mom passed her love of caring for others on to her children and three of her four daughters also became nurses. She often would tell us stories of “how we used to do it” when she lived at the nursing school with the Sisters. Occasionally, she would tell us of shenanigans like the time during a particularly hot summer when she and another schoolmate got caught wearing white shoe polish on their legs instead of the required long stockings. The head nun was less than impressed. Another favorite story was when she was caring for a young man who had been paralyzed in an accident and had faced a long hospitalization. Mom and another nurse snuck him out of the hospital in his wheelchair and took him to a movie, then snuck him back in before anyone noticed.

While in nursing school she was introduced to Charles Penner, and after writing the school for permission, she and dad married on February 4, 1956. Together they had five children: Suzanne Michelle, Juliana Elizabeth, Kristen Deanne, Mark Aaron, and Kathryn Dianne. They lived in Arkansas City, a short time in Wichita, and then made their home in Hillsboro. 

Mom worked in various hospitals in many roles, but whether she was a floor nurse, operating room nurse, risk manager, director of nursing or hospital administrator, one thing remained constant and that was her love of caring for others. She and dad instilled a strong work ethic in the children, and a responsibility to do every job well.

Along with a strong work ethic, mom passed along strength, courage and resilience. She suffered heartbreaking losses with the deaths of dad, Suzi, Juli, and Kris, but she remained a solid source of support for all of us. She encouraged us to keep walking forward, never give up on our dreams and was a generous supporter every new adventure of her children and grandchildren. 

When asked to provide a picture for her memorial bulletin, it seemed only fitting to use not a picture of mom by herself, but a picture of her surrounded by family because they were so important to her, and she loved them so much. As her health began to decline and she could no longer be out and about, she treasured visits by family and holiday gatherings where the big old house somehow seemed crowded.

We will miss her very much, and her absence shall leave a heavy void in our hearts for many years to come. We will endeavor to honor her by living our lives in a strong, caring and generous way as she taught us.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She married Charles Penner February 4, 1956 in Arkansas City. 

Survivors include: son Mark (Kelly) Penner of Peabody; daughter Kathryn McMillen of Hillsboro; brother; Jim Kittrell of Massachusetts; Virginia Lesieur of Maine; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Predeceased by: husband Charles Penner in 1992; daughters Suzanne Ollenburger, Juliana Volotov, Kristen Penner; brother Ken Kittrell.

Sister Rose Beatrice Dreiling died August 8, 2022 at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She was 92 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 77 years.&nbsp; 

She was born in Victoria, KS, on May 26, 1930 to Peter and Clara Bollig Dreiling, the seventh of ten children, and was baptized Cecelia Bernita.&nbsp; 

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS, on February 10, 1945.&nbsp; On August 15, 1945, Cecelia received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Rose Beatrice.&nbsp; She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1946 and final vows on May 26, 1950.

Sister Rose Beatrice received a BA degree in English in 1964 from Marymount College, Salina, KS. &nbsp;By the time she received her diploma she had already taught school for 14 years and served as principal for seven of those years.&nbsp; From 1972-74 she taught in Milwaukee, WI and then in 1974 she taught in Chicago, IL, for 12 years which was the highlight of her whole teaching career.&nbsp; Upon retiring in 1987 from teaching, she spent her years taking care of family members and doing parish work.&nbsp; In May 2013 she retired to the Motherhouse.

Sister Rose Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.&nbsp; 

A Bible Vigil Service will be held August 11, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Auditorium with Sister Missy Ljungdahl as the eulogist.&nbsp; The Mass of Christian Burial will be August 11, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Auditorium with Fr. Barry Brinkman presiding.&nbsp; The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.&nbsp;

Phyllis A. Kearn, age 69, entered into rest on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas. She was born on January 7, 1953 in Concordia, Kansas to Byron and Neva (Owens) Vignery.

Phyllis was a 1971 graduate of Concordia High School.

On January 9, 1971 she married Ralph D. Kearn in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; They were united in marriage for 51 years. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Phyllis was a school bus driver and custodian for USD 333 for 47 years

She was a past member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #1278 in Concordia, Kansas

Phyllis enjoyed, reading, traveling, bingo, going to the casinos.&nbsp; Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Ralph Kearn, Concordia, KS; son Phillip “PJ” Kearn (Jill), Concordia, KS; daughter Amanda “Mandy” McDaniel, Concordia, KS; son James Kearn, San Antonio, TX; seven grandchildren, Allissa, Zakary, Kelsey, Jessica, Katie, Kira, Alex, and two great-grandchildren, Raelynn and Hatcher, her two sisters, Debbie Bullock (Louis), Grey Eagle, MN; Katie Phelps, Ponca City, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Jason and Darrell, and her two sisters, Judy Freeman, Pamela Parker.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the American Legion, Concordia, Kansas. Burial of cremains will take place in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas at a later time.

Joyce S. Eakins, age 92, entered into rest on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She was born on April 29, 1930 to Wolf Point, MT to Amos and Blanche (Vanderhoof) Shrader.

She graduated from Wolf Point High School.

Joyce met John Eakins at a USO dance in Billings, MT in 1949 and they were married on July 1, 1950 in Wolf Point, Montana.&nbsp; They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together and he preceded her on July 14, 2018.

Joyce worked as a telephone operator in Montana.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and then later went to work for McDonalds Department Store and later Dreilings, all in Concordia, until her retirement.&nbsp; She was life member of the VFW Auxiliary, a 4-H leader for years with the Hollis Hustlers.&nbsp; Joyce enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, reading and most of all, spending time her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Jack Eakins (Wenxia), Concordia, KS, Jay Eakins, Bentonville, AR; two daughters, Cheryl Tira (Tom), Columbus, NE, Dawn Steinman (Albert), Chester, NE; son-in-law Ed Bridges, Richland, WA; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents, daughter LeAnn Bridges, grandson Bryan Runyan and brothers, Wayne, Richard and Orin Shrader.

Visitation will be from 1-8 pm. Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.&nbsp; Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor Jonathan Peppers officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Hollis Cemetery, Hollis, Kansas.&nbsp;
